Pete Carroll once wrote “a god ignored is a demon born.” That’s the rub, you see? Millions of people vanish from culture and then risk popping up somewhere gross. It’s what Carol Sanford said at the very end of our episode. If she’d known just how many neoconservatives she was creating by being a Berkeley radical in college she would not have done it. A lot of people don’t actually realise the ‘neocons’ are so called because they crossed the aisle. Like it literally means ‘new conservatives’. As in they used to be progressives.
