Virological characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine breakthrough infections in health care workers
Virological characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine breakthrough infections in health care workers
Background SARS-CoV-2 vaccines are highly effective at preventing COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality. As no vaccine is 100% effective, breakthrough infections are expected to occur. Methods We analyzed the virological characteristics of 161 vaccine breakthrough infections in a population of 24,706 vaccinated healthcare workers (HCWs), using RT-PCR and virus culture. // 21.8.2021

Penn researchers reveal complex details of T-cell responses to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines
Messenger-RNA (mRNA) vaccines against the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 provoke a swift and strong response by the immune system's T cells-;the heavy armor of the immune system-;according to a study from researchers in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. // 16.8.2021

Primate study shows benefit of mRNA vaccine booster shot against SARS-CoV-2 variants
In a recent bioRxiv* preprint research paper, a large group of US scientists demonstrate how a booster dose of the mRNA-1273 vaccine can substantially improve both the potency and range of neutralizing antibody responses and mediate protection against upper and lower airway infection by a range of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants of concern – even those relatively resistant to in vitro neutralization. // 16.8.2021

Association of Naïve B Cells with Humoral Response to SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination
Objectives Immunocompromised patients are at risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 and are considered a high priority for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination. Humoral vaccination response is impaired in these patients when circulating B cells are lacking. // 13.8.2021

Two doses of the SARS-CoV-2 BNT162b2 vaccine enhance antibody responses to variants in individuals with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection
Antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 variants increase after two doses of BNT162b2 vaccine in both previously infected and naïve individuals. //10.8.2021 Previously infected, fully vaccinated heath care workers in the United Kingdom — where officials allow shots to be given up to 12 weeks apart rather than the standard three or four — had antibodies that could attack variants including beta.

An ability to build up higher concentrations of viral particles in people’s airways and mutations that might boost its ability to infect human cells could be what gives the Delta variant its evolutionary edge. //9.8.2021

Rokotetutkimuskeskuksen johtajan mielestä ensimmäisten rokotusten kattavuudesta pitää huolehtia ennen kuin aletaan miettiä kolmatta rokotekierrosta. Kolmas kierros voisi olla mahdollinen syyskuun jälkeen. //6.8.2021
