Seeking a post-retirement hobby, Fred Penna delved into the world of wooden scroll saw art in 2016 and has never looked back. He exclusively uses hardwood hand-cut on a scroll saw to create intricate pieces of art. Since laser or CNC machines are not used, the process is time intensive and involves affixing a drawn pattern onto a plank of wood and drilling holes through each internal design of the pattern. Afterward, a very fine blade is fed through the hole and the design is skillfully and meticulously cut out one-by-one.
