Publications Making Sense of Workplace Injuries to Help Effect Change in the Workplace publication date Oct 2019 publication description National AALAS Platform Session publication description There are a multitude of ways staff can incur injuries while working in a research vivarium. Many workplace injuries can be prevented by proactively identifying jobs or tasks with a higher injury risk. Workrelated musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are reported by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) as the “most widespread occupational health hazard facing our nation today.” WMSDs can occur due to lifting, standing in one position too long, repetitive movements, twisting, poor posture, and more. The creation of a work environment where WMSDs can be avoided is optimal as this category of injury often takes a long time to heal, and in severe cases, may require surgery resulting in lost workdays to turn into lost work months. In line with the aims of our institution, we set ou...

Subchronic Sodium Chlorate Exposure in Drinking Water Results in a Concentration-Dependent Increase in Rat Thyroid Follicular Cell Hyperplasia - Michelle J. Hooth, Anthony B. Deangelo, Michael H. George, Elias T. Gaillard, Gregory S. Travlos, Gary A. Boorman, Douglas C. Wolf, 2001
Chlorine dioxide (ClO 2) is an effective drinking water disinfectant, but sodium chlorate (NaClO3) has been identified as a potentially harmful disinfection by-...
The effects of chronic administration of chlorine dioxide, chlorite and chlorate to normal healthy adult male volunteers - PubMed
The physiological impact of chronic 12 week ingestion of chlorine dioxide and its byproducts, chlorite and chlorate, was compared to the effects of chlorine, chloramine and untreated water. The water disinfectant solutions were administered daily (500 ml, 5 ppm) to normal healthy adult male voluntee …
Sodium chlorite administration in long-evans rats: Reproductive and endocrine effects
Long-Evans rats, 4–6 weeks of age, were given access to 0, 1, 10, or 100 ppm sodium chlorite in deionized water ad libitum as drinking water. Males we…
Controlled clinical evaluations of chlorine dioxide, chlorite and chlorate in man
To assess the relative safety of chronically administered chlorine water disinfectants in man, a controlled study was undertaken. The clinical evaluat…
Effect of chlorine dioxide and its metabolites in drinking water on fetal development in rats
The chlorination of surface waters is known to form trihalomethanes. Therefore, chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is being considered as an alternative disinfectant. This study was designed to determine the ef...
Effect of chlorine dioxide and metabolites on glutathione dependent system in rat, mouse and chicken blood - PubMed
Chlorine dioxide (Cl02) has been proposed as an alternative disinfectant to chlorine to avoid formation of organohalides. Cl02 and metabolites, chlorite (Cl0-2) and chlorate (Cl0-3) in drinking water produced decreases in rat and chicken blood GSH. The GSH dependent system was studied in rat and chi …
Effects of the acute rising dose administration of chlorine dioxide, chlorate and chlorite to normal healthy adult male volunteers - PubMed
Chlorine dioxide is under consideration for use as a water disinfectant alternative to chlorination in the United States. A rising dose tolerance study was undertaken to assess the relative safety and tolerance of acute administration of chlorine dioxide and its byproducts, chlorite and chlorate, to …
