I was already a big fan of @gingerhazing ’s comic, and I got to spend 3+ years helping to shepherd and develop this character, under then director @posborne, alongside an outstanding team of artists at Blue Sky — I have a lot of love for this character, and despite the film’s complicated journey, I’m very happy to see her out in the world… . . This was one of the first physicality tests with the official asset once Jin and I got Nimona’s rig in working order. This essentially became our “Big Hero Chair Test”, we had each of the primary characters exiting a castle/fortress in a completely different state of mind and physicality. David Han on Instagram: "My contribution to Jess Drew's introduction in the film. I got to animate a run of shots where Jess slams, webs, and runs her bike over Vulture for quite an entrance. These shots (minus Gwen) are very heavily based off of a wonderful 2d test animation done by @spencer.wan during his time on the show. It was already super dope, so I tried preserving what I could, while tweaking and adding things here and there based on supervisor/director notes. The biggest addition to the animation was how Jess runs her rear wheel over Vulture before jumping off and whipping her bike. Does it make any sense? No. Does it look cool? Yes, haha. For the longest time I've been wanting to put in nonsensical, gravity defying video game logic into feature animation… and here we are! The bike whipping maneuver in particular was something I think @jds_77 had been wanting to see incorporated into Jess' handling of her motorcycle, so I added it into the way she jumps off Vulture at the ...
