"The outcomes will be useful in designing policies for preventing and managing infectious disease outbreaks in Vietnam and other developing nations."

Highlighting gender equality in the MDG, she said that the 'Triple Burden of Disease' and agricultural practices, livelihood patterns and large population were some of the triggering factors of emerging infectious diseases in Asia Pacific and surrounding regions.

Speaking of specific areas of concern, she said there was a fertility decline, unprecedented urbanisation, and rising maternal and infant mortality rates. Pakistan also has the seventh highest prevalence rate of diabetes, Dr Lewis said.

It has fallen faster and fallen to a lower rate than people would probably have anticipated 15 or 20 years ago." ... Minja Choe is Senior Fellow in the Research Program in the area of Population and Health. "Most women like to get married and have about two children in their lives. But a lot of times they do not feel quite ready to do it and by waiting too long, they lose the chance to have two children or they lose the chance to get married," she said. ... Bob Retherford, Coordinator of Population and Health Studies and a Senior Fellow, says those reasons are reflected in two main areas. "One is later marriage and less marriage. He said another challenge is that Obama lacks trade-promotion authority, also known as fast-track authority, which permits a president to negotiate trade agreements and submit them to Congress for direct approval.
