Thousands of anti-racist protesters have taken to the streets across the United Kingdom to counter a spate of far-right rallies planned to target immigration centers, seeming to thwart what looked set to be another day of rioting.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday (August 6) that sufficient police would be on the streets to handle anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant riots in the coming days as he sought to reassure communities braced for more violent protests on Wednesday.

Businesses in areas thought to be targets for disorder have prepared by boarding up their shop fronts, planning to close early and working from home.
