How Jordan Peterson Became a Global Anti-Net Zero Power Broker
This special investigation between Canada’s National Observer and DeSmog was produced in collaboration with the Institute for Sustainability, Education and Action and TRACE Foundation. “No more carbon apocalypse-mongering,” Jordan Peterson told an audience of thousands in February at a global conservative conference in London known as the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC). The crowd applauded loudly. The world is […]

Participatory Economy Project
Participatory Economy Project
A Participatory Economy is a model for a new democratic, fair and green economic system developed as a viable alternative to capitalism. It provides a concrete description of how a modern economy of millions of people can be organised around cooperation and solidarity instead of competition and greed. A Participatory Economy is made up of: 1. Social Ownership of our productive commons 2. Federations of self-managed worker and neighbourhood councils 3. Participatory planning, where these councils participate in a decentralised cooperative procedure to plan the allocation of resources in the economy. Democracy 101 (A Refresher for Anyone Who Is Just Doing Their Best In This Capitalistic Hellscape) ⏰ Tuesday, March 18 | 6:25 PM – 8:10 PM EST 🔄 6:00 – 6:25 PM | Arrive Early for Some Slow, Intentional, and Chill Connecting in Small Groups all attendees gain access to a private website with pre-event resources, reflection questions and conversation prompts! all attendees receive a lootbag of resources post-event. RSVP Please Give What You Can : We’re asking those who are able to contribute to this event to do so, helping cover the labour of coordinating, facilitating, and creating this space. This work takes time, energy, and resources—and since the system won’t fund us, we rely on community support to keep it going. If you can give more, please do. If you can’t contribute right now, we understand—and you’re still welcome. In April Social Good Collective Members will receive links to register early and for free for our community programming, in addition to exclusive member-only events. Democracy 101 (A Refresher for Anyone Who Is Just Doing Their Best In This Capitalistic Hellscape) Let’s be real—most of us learned about democracy in grade 10, and it wasn’t exactly a generous, empowering, or engaging education. It was more like: Here’s how voting works. Here’s a flowchart of government branches. Good luck out there. But democracy isn’t just something you memorize—it’s something you participate in. And if we’re going to navigate this system (especially with a federal election coming up), we need real answers, not recycled high school social studies lectures. So here’s the deal: 📌 We’re doing a refresher, but without the boring bullshit. 📌 You send us the democracy questions you actually have—the ones you’re too afraid to ask or never got a clear answer on. 📌 We break it down, answer your questions, and give you access to our behind-the-scenes resources. Things We’ll Cover (Depending on What You Ask!): ✔️ How democracy actually works in Canada (not just the textbook version) ✔️ What this election means and how power really moves ✔️ Ways to engage beyond voting that actually make a difference ✔️ How to handle political conversations without losing your mind No jargon, no condescending takes—just real talk, practical answers, and a space to learn together. Featuring: 🔹 Samanta Krishnapillai from On Canada Project / Social Good Collective 🔹 JB (@cdnpoli101) from SmartVoting.ca 🔹 Akeyl Senior (@a.key.lah_) 🔹 Kristina Kyser (kristinakyser.com) This is a community space, not a lecture—come as you are, bring your questions, and let’s figure this out together.
