Listen, Marxist! - Murray Bookchin
Listen, Marxist! - Murray Bookchin
Murray Bookchin's best-known leaflet, Listen, Marxist! was aimed predominantly at students influenced by the Maoist Progressive Labor Party which was heavily (and highly destructive) active in the mass Students for a Democratic Society movement in 1960s and 70s America. His criticisms of "Marxism" and Marxist terminology are not applicable to Marxism as a whole, but some do apply to the crude politics of the PLP. Despite this significant shortcoming, we reproduce the document here due to its importance in terms of the left and libertarian left in the US

Marxism and Culture: an Introduction to Raymond Williams - Brooklyn Institute for Social Research
Activist, critic, and key figure in the development of cultural studies, Raymond Williams was among the most influential radical intellectuals of the 20th century. The concepts and approaches he developed or helped to popularize—“structures of feeling,” “cultural materialism,” “keywords,” “dominant, residual, and emergent”—continue to shape new work in cultural studies, history, and literary theory. RSVP Please Give What You Can : We’re asking those who are able to contribute to this event to do so, helping cover the labour of coordinating, facilitating, and creating this space. This work takes time, energy, and resources—and since the system won’t fund us, we rely on community support to keep it going. If you can give more, please do. If you can’t contribute right now, we understand—and you’re still welcome. In April Social Good Collective Members will receive links to register early and for free for our community programming, in addition to exclusive member-only events. Democracy 101 (A Refresher for Anyone Who Is Just Doing Their Best In This Capitalistic Hellscape) Let’s be real—most of us learned about democracy in grade 10, and it wasn’t exactly a generous, empowering, or engaging education. It was more like: Here’s how voting works. Here’s a flowchart of government branches. Good luck out there. But democracy isn’t just something you memorize—it’s something you participate in. And if we’re going to navigate this system (especially with a federal election coming up), we need real answers, not recycled high school social studies lectures. So here’s the deal: 📌 We’re doing a refresher, but without the boring bullshit. 📌 You send us the democracy questions you actually have—the ones you’re too afraid to ask or never got a clear answer on. 📌 We break it down, answer your questions, and give you access to our behind-the-scenes resources. Things We’ll Cover (Depending on What You Ask!): ✔️ How democracy actually works in Canada (not just the textbook version) ✔️ What this election means and how power really moves ✔️ Ways to engage beyond voting that actually make a difference ✔️ How to handle political conversations without losing your mind No jargon, no condescending takes—just real talk, practical answers, and a space to learn together. Featuring: 🔹 Samanta Krishnapillai from On Canada Project / Social Good Collective 🔹 JB (@cdnpoli101) from SmartVoting.ca 🔹 Akeyl Senior (@a.key.lah_) 🔹 Kristina Kyser (kristinakyser.com) This is a community space, not a lecture—come as you are, bring your questions, and let’s figure this out together.
