How Capitalism Causes Loneliness
How Capitalism Causes Loneliness

This. Is. One of. The Most. Important. Discussions.

Because capitalism has *always pushed the false narrative of Darwin's "Survival of the Fittest" over Kropotkin's Mutual Aid. And its false assertion of "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is of course required and admirable at times, we still have to ask: why were we needing to be "pulled up" to begin with? What is it, precisely, that keeps us down?

Because when rationalized into Libertarianism and institutionalized into the rat race it is fundamentally against the fact that we are a *communal species. As always, I point to the Rat Park study here.

And when we are isolated, and then siloed into divisive capitalist social media echo-chambers. (social media under a socialist/public society would prioritize things TOTALLY differently if we lived under a different global paradigm, don’t get me started on that one)

This then becomes the *perfect breeding ground for stoking hatred towards immigrants, trans or other marginalized members of our human society because we have zero time to build authentic mutual aid & fun friendly local communities and meet & greets - let alone get involved in local politics.

And then when you factor in what happens to boys (I refuse to call them men) and the "manosphere" this perpetuates misogyny. Basically - Mrs Jorpy Kermitson is ABSOLUTELY and totally wrong on *everything he says in his psychology approach. His diagnosis of male loneliness is correct - his prescription is the *worst thing for society.

Instead, and this is scientifically proven - the antidote to EVERY problem we face is MORE human centred services, taking our time back, more "third places", MORE meeting neighbours from different walks of live - all of which are everything that capitalism destroys.

And - above all - we can now conclusively say that it is Capitalism itself that is factually wrong: the science of literally all the things I described above is conclusive, and this is an understatement. Because when you further add our total disconnect from nature, over-prescribed anti-depressants, burnout, and poor health due to shit foods (because only in capitalism is the food sold at the cheapest quality possible, for the highest price) - then of course we don't have an interest in building authentic community.

Fostering social connection for global health: the essential role of social connection in combating loneliness, social isolation and inequities in health
For this to produce any long-lasting and legitimate results it must focus entirely on building a post-capitalism world. Otherwise it is yet another band-aid "solution" that fails to address why these issues have arose in the first place.

In an extended interview, acclaimed physician and author Dr. Gabor Maté discusses his new book, “The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture.” “The very values of a society are traumatizing for a lot of people,” says Maté, who argues in his book that “psychological trauma, woundedness, underlies much of what we call disease.” He says healing requires a reconnection between the mind and the body, which can be achieved through cultivating a sense of community, meaning, belonging and purpose. Maté also discusses how the healthcare system has harmfully promoted the “mechanization of birth,” how the lack of social services for parents has led to “a massive abandonment of infants,” and how capitalism has fueled addiction and the rise of youth suicide rates.
