EXCELLENT COMMENTER:
"Some experts have suggested that the research plan is unethical, because it will withhold vaccines that work from newborns at significant risk of infection." ARE YOU KIDDING US?
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics:
"Newborns infected with hepatitis B at birth and infants infected in the first year of life have a 90% chance of developing chronic hepatitis B, and 25% of those who develop chronic hepatitis B will die from the disease. "
"Children infected between one and five years of age have a 25-50% chance of becoming chronically infected. Twenty-five percent of children who develop a chronic hepatitis B infection will die from the disease. "
It is unethical to withhold lifesaving (or disease-preventing) treatment in the course of a clinical trial. For the Fourth Reich to do this in an African country -- where hepatitis B is a serious problem -- is something I would have expected from Josef Rudolf Mengele, SS-Hauptsturmführer (Captain) and physician at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
