This is my version of the lullaby from "Ronja Rövardotter / Ronia the robbers daugther" written by our most loved Swedish writer, Astrid Lindgren , whose books have been read for children all over the world. This song from the movie has always been very dear to me, especially as I was a child. But still now, as an adult, I feel so much for this song. Desde muy pequeño la gaita fue una de sus grandes pasiones. A la temprana edad de 5 años empezó a tocar el mágico instrumento. Cerca de su casa, en Perlora, impartían clases. Pasó por allí y sólo con oír el sonido de la gaita, sin verla, se enamoró de ella. Llegó a su casa muy emocionado y dijo que quería tocar “eso” que sonaba en las escuelas, tan solo a veinte metros de su casa. Entonces su abuelo Xosé Prieto Álvarez “Bito” fue a comprarle una al taller de Vicente Prado “El Pravianu”. El primer maestro que tuvo fue “Chema´l de La Carriona”, que le dio clases en Perlora desde los 5 hasta los 8 años. En octubre del año 1986 sucedió una tragedia que marcó en gran modo la vida del joven gaitero y ésta fue la muerte de su abuelo, en un accidente de trabajo en la antigua ENSIDESA. Estuvo unos 4 años sin sacar la gaita de su funda. En el año 90, ese sentimiento que llevaba muy adentro volvió a revivir y empezó de nuevo a recibir clases con el maestro Xuacu Amieva, en su escuela del Naranco. En ese mismo año entró a formar parte de la Banda Gaites Naranco, a la que perteneció hasta el año 1997. En este mismo año 97 empezó a impartir sus primeras clases en el local de la Asociación de Vecinos de Albandi (Carreño). En el 98 obtuvo la plaza de profesor de gaita en la Escuela Municipal de Música de Corvera y fundó la Banda de Gaites de Corvera d´Asturies. Fue Jefe de Estudios de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Corvera entre los años 2002 y 2004. Actualmente sigue siendo profesor de la Escuela y Director de la Banda respectivamente. De esa época es también la formación del grupo de música folk “Llume de Llar” con el que realizó numerosos conciertos por Asturies y Lleón hasta que este desaparece en el año 2001. En el año 2003 fundó la Banda de Gaites de Lluanco (Gozón) de la que fue Director. En el año 2005 fue uno de los fundadores de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Gozón en la que empezó a trabajar como profesor de gaita y en la que fue Jefe de Estudios hasta el año 2007. Impartió innumerables cursos de gaita, entre los que cabe destacar: Casa de Asturias de Alcobendas (Madrid), Real Musical Oviedo, alumnos de gaita del Centro Asturiano de Montevideo (Uruguay), alumnos de gaita del Centro Asturiano de La Plata (Argentina), Centro Asturiano de Nueva York, Centro Asturiano de Bruselas, Centro Español de Queens (Nueva York), etc. Sus conciertos fueron ofrecidos en lugares tan variados y sugerentes del mundo como: Taiwán, Korea del Sur y Malasia, en Asia; Chile, Nueva York, Newport, Sleepy Holow y Tarry Town (Estados Unidos), Sao Paulo (Brasil), Buenos Aires, Tucumán, Rosario y Zárate (Argentina) y República Dominicana, en América; Campamentos de refugiados saharauis (Argelia), Cabo Verde y Marruecos en África; Irlanda, Alemania, Bélgica, Francia y España, en Europa; así como conciertos por toda la geografía asturiana. Colaboró con muchos artistas en diferentes grabaciones discográficas, pero no es hasta el año 2005 cuando publica su primer trabajo discográfico en solitario, titulado “XERMANDÍA”. La Banda de Gaites de Corvera d´Asturies, bajo su dirección, tiene publicados dos trabajos discográficos: “Al Debalu” y “Molihuá”. En el año 2007, el Comité Organizador del Desfile de San Patricio de Nueva York lo nombra Coordinador-Ejecutivo para Europa de dicho Desfile, que es el Festival Celta más antiguo, más grande y más importante del mundo. En el fascículo número 11 de la colección “Historia de la Música Asturiana” que publica el periódico “La Voz de Asturias” y en la que aparecen los músicos más importantes de toda la historia de Asturies se incluye un tema suyo titulado “Marcha d´Antón el neñu/Espinaréu/Muñeira d´Antón” grabado en el año 99 junto con el grupo “Llume de Llar” y otro con el propio grupo llamado “Tabiernas”. En el año 2016, después de toda una vida dedicada a la música (33 años de carrera musical) es cuando decide retomar su carrera en solitario y publica “A PAUSE IN NEW YORK”. Learn it here: https://sellfy.com/p/vaBa/# This popular theme originally written by Cuban pianist Ernesto Lecuona has been interpreted many times by many guitarists. For my arrangement, I put together material from Sabicas and of my own. The guitar I'm playing is the Ben Woods Signature Model by Ortega Guitars (BWSM), a Flamenco negra with many modern upgrades and a custom size. It's an amazing instrument available with another version (BWSM2) and 2 more of my signature guitars at Guitar Centers in USA and Thomann Music in Europe. http://www.ortegaguitars.com This familiar melodic theme is possibly the most iconic Flamenco Guitar melody known to the general public. What can be confusing is that there is also an authentic Flamenco song form called the Malagueñas palo, hailing from Malaga that is based off the cante jondo "deep Flamenco singing". It is either played as a guitar solo piece or accompanying a singer, which is also very beautiful but the melodic themes are completely different. 'Alternail' technique here is evident as an alternative to picado in some places with fast runs. Alternail is just my term for using the index nail like a pick. I've always played these runs with picado, but now I find using alternail creates less stress for my hands and mind.
