Nineteen years after Park(ing) Day was first launched to get people rethink how we use street space, parklets are common enough that they are no longer shocking or even surprising. But Park(ing) Day still has something to teach.

Now in it’s third year, Park(ing) Day Toronto is serving as the catalyst for the creation of as many as 30 or more installations, whereby spots for cars will instead be used as places for people.

Houston Street will be closed on Friday for Park(ing) Day.

Each year on Parking Day, coveted curbside parking spaces in Denton, TX, are claimed by couches, games, potted plants, information tables, and conversations about the city’s future.

PARK(ing) Day returns to the City and County of Denver as we join other cities around the world in temporarily reclaiming on-street parking spaces for people places, or “parklets.” PARK(ing) Day is an annual event that encourages businesses, community groups, and other organizations to reimagine parking spaces and public streets as vibrant, people-friendly places.

What began in 2005 as Park(ing) Day evolved into part of a global movement for transforming city streets.
