Follow a meeting in Outlook - Microsoft Support
A 3rd option is coming to Outlook and Teams Meetings, now you can not only Accept, or Decline but when you are not available but want to stay in the loop you can opt to "Follow" a meeting, meaning you will get an update and roundup after the meeting that you couldn't attend.
