Beautifully, powerfully written. What hit me in the immediate aftermath of the election is getting me choked up again — Obama was a generationally (perhaps even longer than that) excellent President and human being and he spent most of his Presidency being dehumanized by his opponents. A lot to unpack here. I need to read Between the World and Me again.
Now Is the Time to Talk About What We Are Actually Talking About - The New Yorker
We cannot accept false equivalencies. It is on the oppressors to come around to accepting everyone's humanity, not on the oppressed to try and act more acceptably human.
Trump Preparedness: Digital Security 101 - The New Yorker
An overview of what activists are talking about... but this sounds like a mostly rich white male meeting that isn't actually providing operational assistance to the activists who will need it.
Trump Excuses the White Working Class From the Politics of Personal Responsibility - The Atlantic
This is an interesting take. I think in the end the GOP's first orthodoxy is to tax cuts for the very rich and corporations, and they'll revert to that even as various populist allegiances have helped them achieve those goals.
Donald Trump Has Broken the Constitution - The Atlantic
There are some claims in here I disagree with (like the declaration of war in Iraq) but overall I agree that we've never seen a candidate campaign so thoroughly against the Constitution and general norms.
You Don’t Have To Like Me—You Just Have To Believe I'm A Human Being - The Establishment
"If you do not like me, I will live. If you do not believe in my humanity, I may not." Excellent call for justice from Ijeoma. It's about recognizing one another as people.
Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaigns offer a road map for Democrats in the Trump era.
This is a really well articulated point about how universal solutions can be targeted at those most in need and a rejection of "economy first" opposition to Trump.
