Perhaps Trump is just being honest about what the US has wanted from Ukraine since the fall of the USSR - influence. Both have treated it as a pawn and now Trump maybe saying "Putin can have Ukraine but not until we have raped it of $500Bn of resources"— Ian Parsons (@icp456) February 23, 2025

The article concludes that Trump’s America is no longer a reliable ally, and that his foreign policy is transactional, favoring power over principle. Allies and adversaries alike should take him at his word: “What you see is what you get. America has turned.”— GurbaxSinghDhillon (@Gurbaxdhillon) February 23, 2025

Yes. Trump is a victim blaming predator. So is Putin. Each sees himself in the other. They can work together and screw anyone else in the crosshairs. I’m convinced the reason Trump attacks Zelenskyy, is because Trump had already promised Putin a share of that minerals deal.— JanTheStitchWitch (@pictureladyjan) February 23, 2025

Excellent. If there is an upside, it will be that, finally, the myth of US "leadership of the free world" be confined to the dustbin of history and that other nations create groups that put their own needs first. If US won't support Europe, get the bases out of there.— Paul Ganderton (@ecogeog) February 23, 2025

“If you are not at the table, you are on the menu.” Absolutely brilliant summation. I couldn’t have expressed that better myself. Canada, Greenland, Panama, Mexico and Gaza are all on America’s immediate list.— Tom (@IamTom1975) February 23, 2025

Putin is and always was his role model. Personally and politically. In Trump we have a Las Vegas-version of Putin. And the USA are on their way to become a Russia 2.0.— Frank Baumbach🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇱👊🏻 (@frankkr22) February 23, 2025

This is bullshit. “Russians have a massive numerical advantage in manpower and weapons in Ukraine, and that advantage will persist regardless of further Western aid packages.” https://t.co/YbH7H3wShO— Shashank Joshi (@shashj) February 20, 2025

With proper allied backing, the US & Europe could ensure Ukraine has a long-term advantage in lethality. That would in turn ensure that the impact of Russia’s population advantage is not as severe as it need be. Ukr of course has to get mobilisation right- no question.— Shashank Joshi (@shashj) February 20, 2025

If Vance wants America to throw in the towel, he’s entitled to do so. But he doesn’t get to manufacture spurious arguments to justify his president’s increasingly deranged pronouncements about Ukrainian dictatorship & his desperation to normalise ties with Russia.— Shashank Joshi (@shashj) February 20, 2025

Why are we fighting this war again ? I do remember Russia being provoked by NATO into a country that voted not to have NATO. The West is up to its old games again. More regime change. HARD PASS— Marxist Freeman (@KNUTEROCKKNEE) February 21, 2025

Gorbachev himself called that bullshit and that "deal" isn't in writing anywhere. Putin doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO because he wants to take Ukraine. Which is why Ukraine wanted to join. But again, they were never invited to begin with.— Pedro Scheeff (@CriptoeKeeng) February 21, 2025

So far the casualties are 1 Ukrainian for every 4 Russians. This means that Russian soldiers will be depleted before the Ukrainian soldiers. With the help Europe can give Ukraine it is possible to limit Russian advances. An offensive is though probably not possible.— Jan Lenander🇺🇦🇸🇪 (@janlenander) February 20, 2025

Ukraine isn't even serious about mobilizing manpower, let alone winning the war. If they were, they would have mobilized at minimum 100% of 18-35 year old as soon as Russia invaded. Currently Russia has 220-250 brigades in Ukraine while Ukraine has about 110. Their main issue is shortage of infantry and their demographics are at a significant disadvantage to Russia. So unless someone else is ready to commit significant infantry forces Vance is correct.— Jason Lawhorn (@jlawhorn1975) February 21, 2025
