Kolonialisme en imperialisme vormen een historisch grondpatroon. Het eigenaardige is dat het westerse imperialisme samenviel met de vorming van de nationale staat en daarmee zichzelf van binnenuit ondergroef. En daardoor een nieuwe, overigens tot geweld leidende norm schiep.

De nationale staat (lelijk: natiestaat) is nu eenmaal het onvermijdelijke resultaat van technologische en vooral ook maatschappelijke modernisering: de staat schept zich een solidaire, liefst democratische natie. De weg daarheen vergt vaak geweld.

Schoof is een zegen. Als leider van een kabinet dat er nooit had mogen komen. Hij verlegt de aandacht direct van asiel naar migratie, maar dat wordt niet opgepikt. En verder: het Europese asielbeleid deugt kwalitatief niet, al gaat dat niet primair om de omvang van de instroom.

Er was een tijd dat dit soort tweets binnen no time van het platform af waren en de user een schorsing of permanente ban had. Maar na bijna een dag staat het er nog steeds, ondanks alle meldingen. Met dank aan Elon Musk. Zo ziek dit.

Er is geen sprake van een noodwet. Waar komt dat verzinsel toch vandaan? Het gaat om omzeilend noodrecht. Dat geen enkele kans van slagen heeft.
