@larsloekke Dear Lars You keep saying Denmark has always been there for the Americans. This is not correct, the US has always been there for Denmark So, open your eyes ! Why should the US pay for the defense of Greenland, this sounds to me like freeloading !!!

@SteenHansen59 @larsloekke Take a look at the map. What can DK do? The USA doesn't have to pay for the defense of Greenland either - they never did! First withdrawal + now because of rare earths and other interests. The USA should keep its hands off Greenland!

@SteenHansen59 Don't know where you get your statistics from. US pays 16% of NATO budget, same amount as Germany. Denmark spends 2% of GDP on defence, increasing this year to 3%. US spends approx. 3,4% of GDP on defence, worldwide, only part of this for NATO members territory.

@larsloekke In 1940 Britain had to take Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands so they wouldn't fall into Nazi hands because Denmark had. Denmark is an amazing country voted one of the best survey after survey but it's too small. It's Miliary is too small to deal with or deter Russia or

@betterallan @larsloekke Every country in NATO makes an integrated NATO stronger. NATO is for collective defence, because Russia had such a huge military including nukes it threatened everyone. And still does. NATO now includes every Baltic state except Russia. Denmark and Sweden control the exit.

@betterallan @larsloekke Russia is not a threat for two main reasons. First, hold a globe in your hands. Apart from Russia, the rest of the vast land mass belongs to NATO countries. Second, after 3 years, Russia still hasn't even been able to conquer Ukraine. Russia = no threat.

@betterallan @larsloekke 1940 it was during World War 2 this is peace time. The US was not part of WW2 then. Denmark and Greenland are part of NATO. if the US needs more bases deployed then they go to Denmark and Greenland and negotiate. There is no need to take it over.

@betterallan @larsloekke In 1940 Denmark was occupied by the Nazis. It was left on its own. To prevent Greenland becoming a Nazi colony the Envoy of the Danish Government in exile agreed with Roosevelt that Greenland should become an American protectorate for the duration of the war. Now Google NATO.
