Healthcare workers walk to a tent, Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at a COVID-19 testing site outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. State officials say Florida has surpassed 500,000 coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, testing is ramping up following a temporary shutdown of some sites because of Tropical Storm Isaias.
Airdate: October 12, 2022 What are the health needs of Central Pennsylvanians and other nearby residents?
UPMC recently published its 2022 Community Health Needs Assessments and Implementation Plans. The assessment identified the four most pressing health needs in all the communities served by UPMC.
It may not be a surprise – especially after the past two-and-half years of the COVID-19 pandemic – but behavioral health was identified as the number priority or health need. Also on the list of priorities or needs were chronic disease management, access to care and navigating resources and prevention and community wide healthy living.
On Wednesday’s Smart Talk, Tina Nixon, vice president, Mission Effectiveness and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, UPMC in Central Pennsylvania addressed behavioral health as a priority,”Behavioral health means access to mental health providers as well as opioid substance abuse. And so, as we all know, we are in the epidemic when it comes to that substance abuse. It’s something that we didn’t talk about during the pandemic, but it’s still there. And having access and resources for treatment is very important. And so that is something that we we continue to be working on. We continue to work on that through our Center for Addiction Recovery Mobile Unit, where when you talk about access, we have to think of all our neighborhoods that encompass our region. We take that mobile unit to our rural areas up north and south because we have some southern place spots that we go. Also, access to mental health providers is very important and not having to wait six, eight months to get in. So looking at how we can embed behavioral health specialists into our primary care offices, that was something that we were working on before the pandemic. So, we can provide a one stop shop for individuals that are coming in. You get your primary care visit in it. If there’s a need to to speak with a behavioral health specialist, they’re right there for you. So I’m doing some of those things, too, to help address the important need of behavioral health in our community. We also know that during the pandemic, the numbers have increased for individuals that need that and specially our young folks.”
Nixon described how the assessment is being used,”The community health needs assessment we’re really trying to capture from our patients, our board members, our social and human service organizations, community partners, elected officials, information around access to health. Looking at primary and secondary data to help drive some of this work that we’re doing to kind of get all this information in and figure out what we can do as a health care system to really work on the priorities that come out of the community health needs assessment.”
Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 But Isnt Worried About Kansas Gaming Today
Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 – But Isn’t Worried About Kansas – Gaming Today https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/missouri-will-try-again-for-sports-betting-in-2023-but-isnt-worried-about-kansas-gaming-today/
Missouri state lawmaker Dan Houx doesn’t see the Kansas City Chiefs leaving Missouri. He’s even more confident they won’t leave Missouri for Kansas.
Kansas launched retail and online sports betting through state-operated casinos on Sept. 1 under legislation passed last May. That law puts a 10 percent tax on operator revenue, with the majority of state revenue going into an “Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund” – with the Chiefs considered a clear target.
In neighboring Missouri, sports betting has yet to be legalized. But Houx doesn’t see Kansas as much of a threat to become a real relocation destination for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
“I don’t see that happening,” Houx told Gaming Today on Tuesday. “What they did in their (legislation) is the revenue goes to entice a team to come to Kansas (but) their revenues are extremely low. Say their sportsbook’s bringing in $10 million a year – it’s going to take a long time to get to $1 billion for a new stadium.”
According to Houx, Missouri is Chiefs’ territory. He estimates at least 75 percent of Missourians are Chiefs fans. When asked about whispers of a move to Kansas, Houx didn’t mince words.
“If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else. I think you would see memorabilia burnt in the streets, so to speak,” he told Gaming Today.
“We’re a great state and we love our football,” said the Warrensburg Republican. “It’s the whole Midwest you’ve got to think about – from Iowa to Nebraska, to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas – the Chiefs are central to it all.”
KC Chiefs, Other Teams Want Legal Missouri Sports Betting
A new, or even renovated stadium is definitely on the Chiefs’ wish list. But that’s only part of what the franchise wants.
The Chiefs also want legal sports betting in Missouri.
Last spring, the team and other pro sports franchises in the state – including the Royals – worked with Houx and other lawmakers to bring legal options to the state. If the bill had passed, legal sports betting (via licensed online apps tied to the stadiums and casinos) would have launched earlier this year. Casinos would also have been allowed in-person sportsbooks.
“If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else.” — Lawmaker Dan Houx
It didn’t happen. The bill was instead derailed in May after lawmakers disagreed on an amendment that would have legalized up to 5,000 video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in the state.
In another attempt, Houx tried again to pass the bill last month during a special tax session in Jefferson City. That proposal would have bumped the tax rate up to 10 percent from 8 percent in the bill last spring, but otherwise would have been the same. Unfortunately, the bill didn’t advance.
What’s Next for Missouri Sports Betting?
Houx expects much better results when he files a similar bill during the Missouri 2023 regular session starting Jan. 4. The tax rate is likely to be much higher in the next bill, he said (between 15 and 17 percent), but would still give pro teams and casinos online sportsbooks and casinos a retail option.
At 17 percent, Missouri state revenues would be nearly double the $13-$15 million annual tax revenue that would have been generated by the proposal last spring.
“We had a hearing on the bill during the special session and (one legislator) said the number one thing she’s hearing from door-knocking is ‘why don’t we have sports betting?’” said Houx.
“People want it. The legislature wants it. It’s going to be a top priority – I’d say in the top 5 – in January.”
Expansion Could Be in the Cards for Chiefs
The Chiefs haven’t said for sure that they even want to leave Missouri. And Houx’s prediction of a long slog to get Kansas to $1 billion might be accurate. Revenue reported by KSNT-TV on Monday shows Kansas sports betting revenue totaled $1.3 million in its first month of operation.
The state’s share of that is about $130,000.
Additionally, the Chiefs have good options for growth in Missouri, said Houx. One includes a possible expansion at the Truman Sports Complex, should the KC Royals follow through with plans to eventually move to downtown Kansas City.
The Chiefs are tied to a lease at Arrowhead Field through 2031, giving the franchise and the state time to formulate an expansion plan. Chiefs CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt said a renovation of Arrowhead is a possibility in a press conference last November:
“We think that GEHA Field at Arrowhead is still one of the finest stadiums in the National Football League,” said Hunt. “Obviously, things change, and the way fans want to consume the game, and the kind of spaces that you need … those things change over time and we’re paying attention to that.
“There will be things, when we get to the end of our lease here in nine or so years, I’m sure, that we’ll want to incorporate into the stadium. One possibility will be another renovation of Arrowhead.”
The Collaborative Metaverse – O’Reilly – O’Reilly Radar https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-collaborative-metaverse-oreilly-oreilly-radar/
We want to congratulate Dylan Field on his startup Figma, which Adobe recently purchased for $20B. Dylan started his career with O’Reilly Media when he was in high school—not that long ago. With Figma, he’s made the big time.
It’s worth thinking about why Figma has been so successful, and why Adobe was willing to pay so much for it. Since the beginning, Figma has been about collaboration. Yes, it was a great design tool. Yes, it ran completely in the browser, no downloads and installation required. But more than anything else, Figma was a tool for collaboration. That was a goal from the beginning. Collaboration wasn’t an afterthought; it was baked in.
Learn faster. Dig deeper. See farther.
My thesis about the Metaverse is that it is, above all, about enabling collaboration. VR goggles and AR glasses? Fine, but the Metaverse will fail if it only works for those who want to wear a headset. Crypto? I strongly object to the idea that everything needs to be owned—and that every transaction needs to pay a tax to anonymous middlemen (whether they’re called miners or stakers). Finally, I think that Facebook/Meta, Microsoft, and others who say that the Metaverse is about “better meetings” are just plain headed in the wrong direction. I can tell you—anyone in this industry can tell you—that we don’t need better meetings, we need fewer meetings.
But we still need people working together, particularly as more and more of us are working remotely. So the real question facing us is: how do we minimize meetings, while enabling people to work together? Meetings are, after all, a tool for coordinating people, for transferring information in groups, for circulating ideas outside of one-to-one conversations. They’re a tool for collaboration. That’s precisely what tools like Figma are for: enabling designers to work together on a project conveniently, without conflicting with each other. They’re about demonstrating designs to managers and other stakeholders. They’re about brainstorming new ideas (with Figjam) with your team members. And they’re about doing all this without requiring people to get together in a conference room, in Zoom, or in any of the other conferencing services. The problem with those tools isn’t really the flat screen, the “Brady Bunch” design, or the absence of avatars; the problem is that you still have to interrupt some number of people and get them in the same (virtual) place at the same time, breaking whatever flow that they were in.
We don’t need better meetings; we need better tools for collaboration so that we don’t need as many meetings. That’s what the Metaverse means for businesses. Tools like GitHub and Google’s Colab are really about collaboration, as are Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365. The Metaverse is strongly associated with gaming, and if you look at games like Overwatch and Fortnite, and you’ll see that those games are really about collaboration between online players. That’s what makes these games fun. I’ve got nothing against VR goggles, but what makes the experience special is the interaction with other players in real time. You don’t need goggles for that.
Collaboration made Figma worth $20B. It’s one of the first “enterprise Metaverse” applications. It certainly won’t be the last. Congratulations again to the team at Figma, and to our alumnus Dylan. And congratulations to Adobe, for realizing Figma’s importance.

Dogecoin Price Prediction As Elon Musk Launches Fragrance Accepting DOGE Payments – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/dogecoin-price-prediction-as-elon-musk-launches-fragrance-accepting-doge-payments-cryptonews/
Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com.
Elon Musk, the billionaire industrialist and Dogecoin enthusiast, has launched a new fragrance that can be purchased using Dogecoin.
Can this be the catalyst for DOGE’s jump, especially with the market’s bear run?
DOGE Price Movement
DOGE, one of the best meme coins, has been bearish for the past few days. The digital asset currently trades at $0.06045. Although DOGE has pumped by 0.38% in the past 24 hours, its weekly price peg indicates a downtrend of 7%.
DOGE’s technicals show that the crypto asset currently trades above all of its short-term moving average (MA) indicators; however, its 100-day and 200-day MAs ($0.06070 and $0.0609) are above its current price.
With a positive moving average convergence divergence (MACD), DOGE indicates a buy signal. In addition, the crypto asset’s relative strength index (RSI) of 58.11 reveals that it’s not massively overbought.

Elon Musk’s New Fragrance Accepts DOGE
The biggest news for DOGE seems to be the recent launch of Burnt Hair, a fresh fragrance launched by Elon Musk.
Musk shared the fragrance’s first look in the early hours of Wednesday. The billionaire included a purchase link hosted by The Boring Company, his tunnel construction project.
Each bottle of Burnt Hair costs $100, and Musk confirmed that DOGE payments are accepted for the cologne. Just a few hours after announcing it, Musk confirmed that 10,000 bottles of Burnt Hair had been sold. However, the billionaire has yet to confirm how many bottles were bought using DOGE.
Burnt Hair is the second recent notable DOGE-related development coming from Musk.
DOGE’s Twitter Takeover
Last week, Musk’s lawyers filed to complete his $44 billion takeover of Twitter, possibly bringing an end to a back-and-forth that has gone on for months between both parties.
According to phone transcripts, the billionaire proposed that users pay a small fee in DOGE whenever they want to tweet or retweet something. It is still unclear whether this will be possible, but there is growing confidence that Musk will include a role for DOGE to play as he takes over Twitter and reshapes the social networking giant.
Google Cloud Integrates DOGE
Another bullish news for DOGE is Google’s partnership with notable crypto exchange Coinbase. According to reports, the internet conglomerate has partnered with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for its Google Cloud service.
At its Cloud Next conference, Google Cloud Vice President and General Manager Amit Zavery explained that Google would start accepting crypto payments from a “handful” of customers through its integration with Coinbase Commerce, a payment tool for businesses. Coinbase Commerce currently accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), DOGE, and Tether (USDT).
Although the terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, Jim Migdal, Vice President of business development at Coinbase, reportedly announced that the deal would follow other arrangements with Coinbase Commerce. The exchange will likely receive a cut of every transaction that goes through the system.
Conclusion
Dogecoin is an interesting asset for prospective investors in the crypto space. However, investors looking to make a meaningful change can consider IMPT, the native token for Impact Protocol.
Impact Protocol intends to use blockchain to fight climate change by allowing users to purchase carbon credits. Its IMPT token presale is currently one of the best crypto presales, already raising $3 million. Investors can buy IMPT tokens on the website.

U.S. To Support Haiti Police And Deliver Aid To Counter Gangs Reuters Canada
U.S. To Support Haiti Police And Deliver Aid To Counter Gangs – Reuters Canada https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-to-support-haiti-police-and-deliver-aid-to-counter-gangs-reuters-canada/
WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – The United States on Wednesday said it will boost support for the Haitian police as they battle armed gangs and will speed up delivery of aid to a country suffering from crippling shortages of basic goods due to a gang blockade of a key fuel terminal.
Haitian gangs have for a month prevented the distribution of diesel and gasoline, crippling businesses and hospitals and creating shortages of basic goods including water just as the country is struggling with a new outbreak of cholera.
The State Department has created a new visa restriction policy targeting those who support the gangs and has sent a Coast Guard vessel to patrol Haitian waters.

U.S. officials who briefed reporters on Washington’s response stopped short of offering to send troops to the island nation despite appeals from the Haitian government for an international armed force.
“We are … working to increase and deploy in the coming days security assistance to the Haitian National Police to strengthen their capacity to counter gangs and re-establish a stable security environment,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.
“We will accelerate the delivery of additional humanitarian relief to the people of Haiti.”
Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols on Wednesday traveled to Port-au-Prince with a delegation that includes Lieutenant General Andrew Croft of the U.S. Southern Command, the State Department said.
During an earlier phone briefing with reporters, a senior Biden administration official said it was “premature to talk about just a U.S. security presence” when asked whether Washington had ruled out sending troops.
Sporadic looting and gun battles between gangs and police have become increasingly common in recent weeks as the shortages have led to mounting desperation. Protests to demand interim Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation have at times devolved into looting.
The Pan American Health Organization on Wednesday said civil unrest is making it harder to contain the outbreak of cholera, adding that 18 deaths have been confirmed as of Oct. 9 and hundreds of potential cases are being studied.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has proposed that one or several countries send “a rapid action force” to help Haiti’s police, according to a letter to the U.N. Security Council, without suggesting that the force be deployed by the United Nations.
Another Biden administration official during the phone briefing said the travel bans were meant to hold accountable those who are linked to the gangs.
“Our intent in doing so is to demonstrate that there are consequences for those who fund and foment violence in Haiti,” the official said.

Cameron Yoe, Oglesby Up 1 Spot In Latest Football Rankings – Waco Tribune-Herald https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cameron-yoe-oglesby-up-1-spot-in-latest-football-rankings-waco-tribune-herald/
The Cameron Yoemen advanced one spot this week in the statewide rankings produced by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
A loss by Class 3A Division I No. 2 Mount Vernon to No. 8 Winnsboro moved everyone up in the classification after the Tigers fell out of the top 10. Now ranked No. 9, the Yoemen (4-2, 2-0 district), who entered the top 10 last week after a 48-44 win over defending state champion Lorena, travel to McGregor (1-6, 0-3) this week before renewing the Battle of the Bell Oct. 21 at home against rival Rockdale (1-1, 2-4).
In Class 1A Division II, Oglesby stayed undefeated with its fourth straight mercy-rule victory and advanced to No. 4 after Richland Springs saw its remarkable win streak end last week with a loss to then-No. 3 Cherokee, dropping the Coyotes from No. 2 to 5. Richland Springs had won 81 straight district games, dating back to 2001, and hadn’t lost at home since 2013.
Elsewhere in Central Texas, the only other movement in the rankings came from Bremond (5-1, 1-0) after the Tigers slid to No. 10 from No. 8 following a 41-30 road loss to rival No. 5 Chilton (6-0, 0-1) to open district play. Bremond will play at Granger next week, and Chilton will travel to Bartlett.
No. 2 China Spring (6-1, 1-0) heads to Bellmead this week to renew its rivalry with La Vega (4-3, 1-0) before getting defending state champion Stephenville (6-0, 0-0) at home for a clash of title-holders on Oct. 21.
No. 3 Crawford (6-0, 3-0) will travel to Moody this Friday. The Bearcats (3-3, 1-2), an improved squad coming off a three-point loss to Bosqueville last week, are battling to make the playoffs in District 8-2A Division I.
No. 1 Mart (7-0, 3-0) has the week off in its seven-team district before hosting Wortham (6-1, 3-0) next week in what’s likely to be the de facto championship game in District 10-2A Division II.
In Class 1A Division I, No. 1 Abbott (7-0, 1-0) eased past rival Aquilla last week and takes a breather this week in its five-team loop. No. 4 Jonesboro (6-1, 1-0) travels to Santa Anna (3-3, 1-0).

How You Can Get Paid To Visit A Part Of Italy By Train Vancouver Is Awesome
How You Can Get Paid To Visit A Part Of Italy By Train – Vancouver Is Awesome https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-you-can-get-paid-to-visit-a-part-of-italy-by-train-vancouver-is-awesome/
One area is also known as the ‘little Venice’ of Italy.
Italy is a bucket list destination for many Canadian travellers — but they typically don’t enjoy fighting crowds or forking out big bucks to stay in accommodations in its most popular cities.
While tourist meccas like Rome, Florence, and Venice are typically more expensive, thrifty tourists can save even more money by visiting a less frequented region of the country.
Located in northeastern Italy, the picturesque Friuli Venezia Giulia borders Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea. A part of the region is known as the “little Venice” of Italy because of its canals, while other areas are coveted for their breathtaking alpine vistas.
The local Italian tourism board, PromoTurismoFVG, will reimburse travellers for the cost of transportation from anywhere in the country to the region until May 31, 2023, as part of an initiative to drive sustainable travel.
Visitors must book a package holiday that includes the train ticket as well as an overnight stay in any of the following cities and towns: Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine or Trieste.
How to book the Italy experience
Travellers may only book their vacation through a travel agency called Travel One Tour Operator to take advantage of the promotion.
Tickets must arrive and/or depart from the following railway stations: Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, or Trieste Centrale, Udine station.
The promotional package also includes the FVGcard: a card that offers discounts and free admission to many attractions, including guided tours and free access to museums, castles, and churches.
The FVGcard is also the Passport of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori (The Route of Wine and Flavours), which includes three free tastings with two glasses of wine.
There are several round-trip tickets available from Vancouver to Venice for just over $900 CAD including all taxes and fees. However, you may want to start your European adventure elsewhere. Keep in mind that plane tickets within Europe are inexpensive, so if you fly into another city, such as Amsterdam, you can also take a cheap flight or a train ride to Italy.
GOP-Led Tennessee Ballot Proposal To Test Labor Interest 69News WFMZ-TV
GOP-Led Tennessee Ballot Proposal To Test Labor Interest – 69News WFMZ-TV https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/gop-led-tennessee-ballot-proposal-to-test-labor-interest-69news-wfmz-tv/
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — As unions see new hope from organizing U.S. businesses ranging from Starbucks storefronts to an Amazon warehouse, Republican-led Tennessee will officially take its voters’ temperature on an organized labor issue in November.
Lawmakers there have offered up a ballot amendment that asks voters whether to change the state constitution to add Tennessee’s existing law that bans a company and a union from contracts that require workers to pay dues to the union representing them. Proponents, including business interests and Republican politicians, call the prohibitions “right-to-work” law. Unions oppose the change and the right-to-work label.
Tennessee has had such a law on the books since 1947, and the ballot amendment’s outcome wouldn’t change how the existing law works. It would simply become harder to eliminate it going forward.
The amendment’s wording won’t be as straightforward as some other ballot initiatives, including an anti-abortion proposal that failed in Kansas earlier this year. That gives proponents and opponents more power over characterizing Tennessee’s proposed change.
The long road to insert it into the Tennessee Constitution began in 2020, largely predating the recent national groundswell of interest in unions. Backers of the amendment have cited concerns about attempts by congressional Democrats to pass a labor bill that would bar such laws nationwide. It has passed the House but not the Senate. They also have raised concerns that Democratic-run states could try to unwind so-called right-to-work laws.
The amendment will offer a rare snapshot this November of voter sentiment on a flashpoint in the debate between union and business interests, even if the election’s outcome won’t change much. Democratic-led Illinois has proposed a labor-favored amendment, asking voters to etch collective bargaining rights into the state constitution.
Business groups have described Tennessee’s current requirements as a crucial economic development tool to entice business to move or expand, and the state’s Republican political leadership supports the amendment. Unions believe these laws are aimed at crippling their efforts to organize and fight for better compensation and conditions by siphoning off funding from workers. Under federal law, unions must represent all eligible workers in a union-represented workplace unit even if they aren’t dues-paying members.
“I think if it were not successful, or even if it was a close vote, it would be actually pretty stunning,” said John Logan, director of labor and employment studies at San Francisco State University. “It would suggest that, yeah, there is this sort of national, more pro-union, pro-labor sentiment than is reflected in terms of political establishment in a lot of states in the South.”
Currently, 27 states have laws like Tennessee’s; nine have them in their constitutions.
But recent results have been mixed when voters weigh in. Virginia voters rejected a similar constitutional change in 2016, while Missouri voters effectively vetoed a right-to-work law in 2018. Alabama voters approved its constitutional change in 2016.
Interest in organized labor has been galvanized for several reasons, Logan said: high favorability among younger workers; workers who faced difficult conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic; and workforce shortfalls that have empowered workers.
Even so, Tennessee poses a formidable challenge.
Some Tennessee GOP politicians, including Lee, have even previously waded in against individual union campaigns at employers, including the failed 2019 vote at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga.
“What we’re doing right now in Tennessee is working. Right-to-work is common sense. And with federal efforts to repeal it nationwide, it’s time for Tennesseans to speak up,” Lee said in a TV ad.
Predictably, unions see things differently.
“Corporate CEOs see workers at places like Amazon and Starbucks rising up around the country and so they want to put these anti-worker laws in the constitution to make them almost impossible to change in the future,” Wes Trotterchaud, a Teamster from East Tennessee, said in a news release from the No on 1 Committee.
They also see reasons for hope in Tennessee.
For one, a massive Ford plant and corresponding electric vehicle battery plant by SK Innovation are heading to West Tennessee. Politicians, Ford officials and union leaders say it’ll be up to the workers whether to organize, but Michigan-based Ford has deep roots with organized labor.
Even though some Republicans pushed to bar a simpler route to a successful union vote at the new complex — or at least at companies similarly receiving state incentives — those efforts failed. Ford has avoided taking sides on Tennessee’s proposed amendment.
The smaller-scale union pushes seen nationally also have drawn attention in Tennessee. Among them — about a half-dozen Starbucks coffee shops have organized, including in Memphis and Knoxville.
Union membership has lagged behind in Tennessee, at only about half the national average of 10.3% of the workforce in 2021. But while the national percentage decreased from 2020 to 2021, Tennessee’s share grew from 4.4% to 5.2%.

Meet The Team: Breast Cancer Outreach Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
Meet The Team: Breast Cancer Outreach – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/meet-the-team-breast-cancer-outreach-roswell-park-comprehensive-cancer-center/
The colors of fall aren’t just orange, red, brown and gold; pink is prominent in October as we acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To underscore the importance of education about breast cancer risks, and why mammograms are crucial for early detection of breast cancer, representatives from the Office of Community Outreach & Engagement from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center are out in the community all year.
“We have one of the highest mortality rates in New York State when it comes to breast cancer in African American women,” says Beverly Johnson, a health referral specialist at Roswell Park. We find Black and Brown women are being diagnosed at earlier ages.” They’re also more likely to be diagnosed with a more aggressive type of breast cancer and for their cancer to be found at a more advanced state.”
Breast cancer rates for all women are higher in Western New York than anywhere else in New York State and higher than the national average; the mortality rate from breast cancer is also higher in Western New York than the state or national average. White women have a slightly higher rate of being diagnosed with breast cancer compared to Black and Hispanic/Latinx women, but Black women have a higher mortality rate (29.5 out of 100,000 women) than white women (19.9 per 100,000) or Hispanic/Latinx (10.2 per 100,000).
The importance of education
Johnson has been working in patient education on Roswell Park’s behalf for more than 10 years now, starting out as a volunteer with the Witness Project, a community outreach effort specifically designed to provide cancer information to minority communities. She joined the staff at Roswell Park almost 10 years ago and now serves as an educator on breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer in addition to tobacco treatment and smoking cessation efforts.
“I go out and try to educate and navigate women to come to Roswell Park for mammograms. Breast cancer is the main topic. I give presentations at churches and community centers; I go door-to-door, I go to events. I like talking to people and helping them.”
She’s also happy to take questions from people privately, both during these outings and in her off-hours. “Sometimes people come up and ask me questions that they don’t want to say to the crowd. They’ll say they’ve found a lump and don’t know what to do. I also show them how to do breast self-exams and we talk about the importance of knowing their family history.”
A person with a family history of cancer is generally at a higher risk for developing it themselves, but not everyone knows their family history and, in the past, it was taboo to talk about someone’s cancer diagnosis, she says. Unfortunately, men might not realize they, too, can develop breast cancer, but Johnson says she has one male breast cancer survivor who will sometimes accompany her to talk with groups.
Through her efforts, Johnson is helping to make sure people understand the importance of their family history when it comes to knowing their risk of developing cancer, including breast and prostate cancers. A subject that once was taboo or not considered “nice” to talk about can help save lives if discussed openly and without fear.
Schedule your mammogram today
It matters where you get your mammogram. Appointments for screenings are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours available upon request. Call 1-800-767-9355 or schedule online — no prescription or referral is needed.
Make an Appointment
Reaching into the community to provide health information
Roswell Park has resumed outreach efforts in community centers, churches and other in-person gatherings, conducting about 10 meetings a month, a number that doubles during October to increase awareness about breast cancer and mammograms, says Nikia Clark, Senior Community Outreach and Engagement Manager for Roswell Park. “We’re handing out information and having conversations with people about a number of different topics. We like to assess their knowledge base about what they know about a certain cancer and then give them more information, and if they’re eligible for screening, we’ll help them navigate that process.”
Last year, Roswell Park performed close to 8,500 mammograms, a total that the hospital seeks to expand every year. In total 11% of the mammograms conducted at Roswell Park were for Black or Hispanic/Latinx women. More than 100 community outreach and screening events for breast cancer were hosted by Roswell Park last year, with 40% of participants identifying as Black or Hispanic/Latinx.
Clark adds that it’s important for people to do all that they can to lower their cancer risk.
“Getting screened and lowering obesity rates and smoking rates are where we need to start. I know that this is much easier said than done, so we have educational programs focused on healthy living and services like patient navigation available at Roswell Park to help you.”

Even though Randy Johnson’s MLB career has been over for a while, the Hall of Fame pitcher isn’t staying away from sports.
On Wednesday, a photo of Johnson working as a photographer at an NFL game is going viral.
“Learned today that Randy Johnson is now a professional photographer (??) and shoots NFL games (???),” tweeted Business Insider’s Sophie Kleeman, who shared the picture.
The 6-foot-11 Johnson shooting games on an NFL sideline is a surprising sight, but also something that a lot of people seem to be very happy about.
“I love this. Life doesn’t end when your time as an athlete ends. Go start a new life and dominate,” tweeted former NFL player Jay Richardson.
“I tried to profile Randy in 2019 about his photography career because he also takes pics at rock concerts (like Iron Maiden),” said FOX Sports’ Charlotte Wilder. “He didn’t want to talk but here’s his amazing logo.”
Johnson’s photography logo features a dead bird, an ode to his famous fastball which killed a poor flying creature during spring training many years ago.
Overall, the reactions to this Johnson news have been overwhelmingly positive.

Meta Chief Marne Levine Says Metaverse Will Be game Changer For Women Fortune
Meta Chief Marne Levine Says Metaverse Will Be ‘game Changer For Women’ – Fortune https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/meta-chief-marne-levine-says-metaverse-will-be-game-changer-for-women-fortune/
Meta announced on Tuesday that its metaverse avatars will have legs, but it remains uncertain if that will also be true for the company’s $70 billion bet on a virtual world. Meta’s decision to go all-in on the Metaverse has caused its stock price to tank and led to ridicule from many quarters—but that hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of chief business officer Marne Levine, who predicts the technology will especially benefit one segment of the population.
“It’s particularly going to be a game changer for women,” Levine said at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference in an interview with Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell. “Because it levels up the technology, it also levels the playing field.”
Levine’s observation on gender parity concluded a big day for the company. At Tuesday’s flagship Meta Connect event, the company described its plans for getting its metaverse into the mainstream. For now, those plans include a $1,499.99 Meta Quest Pro VR headset (available for purchase October 25) and a partnership with Microsoft that will let users attend Teams meetings as a cowboy hat-donning avatar. And the event’s big reveal: a fall sweater-clad Mark Zuckerberg avatar showed off his new knees (“Seriously, legs are hard!” he exclaimed).
In her talk with Shontell, Levine explained that Meta’s metaverse will benefit women inadvertently; studies show women prefer remote jobs, and Meta’s metaverse technology would make remote labor feel less remote. She said simulative technology like eye contact, sidebar conversations and whiteboarding during avatar-led meetings would make remote workers feel like they’re in “actual meetings.”
As the metaverse and virtual reality are relatively new technologies, there are no large-scale studies that show whether these emerging technologies will be positive or detrimental to women. That said, anecdotal evidence is not all positive—when Meta first opened its metaverse, one user reported being groped by a stranger. Now Meta has “community guides” meandering around the metaverse to answer questions and enforce the code of conduct that bans things like sexual assault.
Many speculate Meta is pushing metaverse as a result of Apple’s privacy changes that have driven up the costs of acquiring customers by Instagram and Facebook ads. Levine acknowledged this: “Apple made a bunch of changes on their platform, and it changed the way businesses big and small are able to find new customers.” She said her main goal is helping these businesses generate profitability, though did not tie this objective to marketing in the metaverse.
Levine worked in government and tech before jumping to Meta in 2010. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 2005, Levine worked in the U.S. Department of the Treasury followed by years as chief of staff for Harvard President Larry Summers’ and at the National Economic Council before starting as Facebook’s first-ever vice president for global public policy in 2010. She moved up the company to serve as Instagram’s COO. In June 2021, she landed in her current role as Meta Chief Business Officer, overseeing all revenue generating initiatives (read: everything).
Levine also responded to Meta’s sinking stock, corporate morale around hiring freezes and the media’s skepticism around its $70 billion investment into virtual reality. “People at Meta–they genuinely have this mindset, which is that things are going to change and evolve,” said Levine. “If you’re not comfortable with that, it’s probably not the right place for you.”

Ed Harding Brought Haunt To Halloween The Opinion Tribune
Ed Harding Brought Haunt To Halloween – The Opinion Tribune https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/ed-harding-brought-haunt-to-halloween-the-opinion-tribune/
When I think of the late Ed Harding, who passed away last January, several things come to mind, most notably his outgoing and friendly demeanor, generosity, outstanding photography skills and last but not least, his love of Halloween.
For nearly four decades Ed was our community’s Mr. Halloween – the guy who put the haunt into the season by turning his garage into “Harding’s House Of Horrors,” a haunted house that attracted children and adults from across the community who were looking for a good scare. Ed didn’t charge an admission to go through his haunt, but he did accept free-will offerings that were donated to a local cause or organization, usually the Glenwood Booster Club.
During an interview I conducted with Ed about this time last year, he talked about the history of his haunted house and how much it had grown over a nearly 40-year period.
“It started with a talking pumpkin,” he said. “We had a lot of fun with that. The trick-or-treaters were talking to it. So, the next year, I thought, ‘Well, I’ll do a little display instead of just a talking pumpkin.’”
That “ little display” evolved and grew over the years and eventually became an all-out haunted house featuring not only the ghouls, ghosts, goblins and creepy characters you’d expect to encounter at a haunt, but also some high-tech gadgets and creatures Ed created and installed himself. Last year, he added an awesome smoke-blowing dinosaur dragon. Harding’s House of Horror’s was a traditional Halloween stop for many Glenwood children and families through the years.
In addition to staging his haunted house, Ed also established a Halloween photo booth for youngsters who were trick or treating around Glenwood’s Town Square during Square Crow Days. Although there will be no haunted house in Ed’s garage this year, the photo booth tradition will live on at Square Crow Days and the entire event on Saturday, Oct. 22 (9 – 11 a.m.) is being dedicated in his honor. The photo booth will be outside City Hall.
“This year, with the blessing of the family, we would like to dedicate the Square Crow Days in honor of Ed. It seems perfectly fitting,” Square Crow Days organizer Emily Prickett said in a recent post on the Friends of Ed Harding Facebook page.
The promotional flyer for Square Crow Days says, “We are honored to dedicate this year’s Square Crow Days celebration to Mr. Ed Harding. He loved our community, photography and all things spooky. We always looked forward to him capturing the best moments from this event.”
Indeed he did. In fact, Ed captured the best moments from every event he photographed – spooky, athletic or otherwise.

Cryptocurrencies were slightly higher on Wednesday after investors shrugged off a higher-than-expected inflation report in anticipation of another key inflation indicator due to come out on Thursday.
The price of bitcoin edged higher by about 0.4% and was trading at $19,072.00, while ether rose 0.6% to $1,290.73.
The September producer price index, a gauge of final-demand wholesale prices, came in higher than expected, suggesting to investors that the Federal Reserve is likely to continue aggressively hiking rates until inflation comes down.
Crypto and equities investors alike are looking forward to Thursday’s consumer price index report.
Defiance ETFs CEO and chief investment officer Sylvia Jablonski called the PPI report a “benign” reading that investors are neither overly disappointed nor overly excited about. Bitcoin and ether have traded in a narrow range for about a month, with bitcoin “stuck” in the $19,000 level, and their moves have been largely macro led as the crypto industry quietly builds new narratives for the next bull run.
“Until we get past tomorrow’s CPI read and this earnings season, and get more color from the Fed, crypto and equities will stay in this trading range and a lot of the investor funds that typically go into the market will remain on the sidelines,” she told CNBC.
“There is a sense that we’re closer to the bottom than not, but there also isn’t this urgency to get in from a lot of investors because of the short-term uncertainty,” she added. “Until then, crypto and any kind of growth assets remain in purgatory.”
Biden Downplays Risk Of Major U.S. Recession Amid IMF Warning The Washington Post
Biden Downplays Risk Of Major U.S. Recession Amid IMF Warning – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/biden-downplays-risk-of-major-u-s-recession-amid-imf-warning-the-washington-post/
As banks and international financial organizations warned of the possibility of a global recession, President Biden said he does not foresee one in the United States, but he acknowledged the prospect of a minor downturn.
“I don’t think there will be a recession,” Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired Tuesday. “If it is, it will be a very slight recession,” he added. “Look, it’s possible. I don’t anticipate it.”
Biden’s take came as the International Monetary Fund, a global lender, downgraded its outlook for the world economy and warned of “storm clouds” gathering — among them “persistent” inflation, the fallout from the Ukraine war and a slowdown in China’s property market impacting the global economy.
The chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, also told CNBC this week that the United States is likely to tip into recession “six to nine months from now,” despite at the moment “actually still doing well.” He added: “This is serious stuff.”
A recession is technically defined as two quarters, or six months, of negative economic growth. However, the National Bureau of Economic Research, the official arbiter of U.S. recessions, looks for other signs such as “significant” and widespread declines across the economy, including in the employment rate, consumer spending and other factors.
Biden, however, said financial experts often throw around predictions. “Every six months they say this,” he said, but it “hadn’t happened yet.”
“We’re in a better position than any other major country in the world — economically and politically,” he continued. “We still have real problems,” he added, but he said recent legislation such as the nearly $2 trillion American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act has accomplished a lot.
As international head winds continue to weigh on the world economy, the 190-member IMF forecast that global growth would slow from 6 percent in 2021 to 3.2 percent in 2022 and 2.7 percent in 2023 — the weakest growth since 2001, it said Tuesday, except for the global financial crisis and the acute phase of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The three largest economies, the United States, China and the euro area, will continue to stall,” Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, the IMF’s chief economist, told reporters. “In short, the worst is yet to come, and for many people, 2023 will feel like a recession.”
Gourinchas said that countries accounting for a third of world output are expected to “contract” this year or next. In the United States, he tweeted, rising interest rates could slow growth to 1 percent in 2023 down from 1.6 percent this year.
Globally, he wrote, “inflation remains the most immediate threat to current and future prosperity by squeezing real incomes & undermining macro stability.” He urged central banks around the world to “keep a steady hand with monetary policy firmly focused on taming inflation.”
This morning, I presented our analysis of the global economy. Russia’s war in Ukraine, the cost-of-living crisis & slowdown in China are the primary reasons we are downgrading growth to 3.2% in 2022 & 2.7% in 2023. https://t.co/rV7PnlIg55 (1/5) pic.twitter.com/XZLSWB5jq6
— Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas (@pogourinchas) October 11, 2022
Biden said he knows that families are worried about the rising cost of energy and medications and are looking for “breathing room,” with the economy set to be a major focus of the upcoming midterm elections.
White press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that the president’s comments in Tuesday’s interview did not mark a change in outlook.
“We take this unique global economic moment very seriously,” Jean-Pierre said. “And the president wants the American people to know that because of America’s resilience and because of the president’s economic plan that we have seen throughout the [past] 20 months, we are in a stronger position than any other country to navigate these global challenges that we’re seeing in front of us.”
U.S. job growth slowed again in September, a sign that the labor market may be cooling from its red-hot peak earlier this year, even though it remains an area of strength for a U.S. economy bracing for a downturn. The Federal Reserve has also hiked interest rates five times since March, moving at an aggressive pace to curb inflation and balance the economy. Nevertheless, some financial experts warn that a recession and financial pain are in store for American families and businesses.
As the war in Ukraine rumbles into its eighth month, the decision by a coalition of oil-producing nations led by Russia and Saudi Arabia last week to slash oil production by 2 million barrels per day, in a rebuke to Biden, has also deepened fears of a global recession. The White House said Tuesday that Biden is reevaluating the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia following the OPEC Plus announcement.

Marelli Showcases Advanced Technologies At International Suppliers Fair (IZB), In Germany – PR Newswire https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/marelli-showcases-advanced-technologies-at-international-suppliers-fair-izb-in-germany-pr-newswire/
WOLFSBURG, Germany, /PRNewswire/ — Marelli is presenting its latest innovations in key technology areas at the IZB International Suppliers Fair (Internationale Zuliefererbörse), from 11th to 13th October 2022 at Allerpark area, in Wolfsburg, Germany. At the company’s booth – located in Hall 1, stand 1224 – Marelli showcases a selection of its cutting-edge technologies, aimed at helping its customers and partners shape the evolution of mobility, following the theme “Driving what’s next“.
Marelli’s booth at IZB International Suppliers Fair (Internationale Zuliefererbörse), in Wolfsburg, Germany (PRNewsfoto/Marelli)
Having established itself as Europe’s leading trade fair for the automotive supplier sector, IZB presents the latest trends across the industry, representing the entire automotive value chain.
Innovation in electrification and beyond, with technology flow-down from motorsport
Among the solutions that Marelli is presenting, a first focus is on technology to enable total energy management of the vehicle, through a complete, modular and scalable offer to control, manage and optimize the energy balance in electric vehicles. The company displays its e-axle system, integrating electric motors, inverter including software, and gearbox, and its range of high-performance Silicon Carbide (SiC) inverter solutions for power electronics, ensuring greater efficiency with reduced size and weight, for increased driving range.
These solutions are derived from the extensive expertise of Marelli Motorsport in the rapid introduction of innovative technologies, such as Silicon Carbide and Gallium Nitride (GaN), which is key in enabling a technological flow-down from racing to series production applications. On the motorsport side, Marelli’s booth at IZB features SiC and GaN technologies to maximise power density and efficiency, that can ensure significantly more compact solutions, without impacting performance, a balance that is of paramount importance in racing vehicles and beyond.
Simplification, enhanced performance for vehicles of the future
In response to evolving vehicle architectures, Marelli also shows its Multi Domain / Zonal Controller for propulsion and vehicle management for all vehicles, hybrid and electric included. This brings together the simplification achieved by using multi-domain controllers (in place of multiple ECUs), and a revolutionary zonal orientated approach, combining the domain controllers for dynamics, transmission and propulsion control, torque coordination management, energy management, thermal management, diagnosis and safety into one module. Specifically, in HEVs and EVs, the system interfaces with the inverter to manage the e-motors, enhancing the efficiency and performance of e-powertrain systems.
Aesthetics meets functionality in next-generation electronics, interiors and lighting
Marelli presents advanced solutions for electronics, including its Horizon Head Up Display. Based on Segments/Matrix LCD or Full RGB TFT, this technology projects the information for navigation, telltales and indicators close to the windshield bottom edge, allowing objects in the driver’s blind spot to be easily recognized. It ensures good visibility through high-contrast images, with a distinctive appearance and competitive cost.
To meet OEM vehicle personalization needs, Marelli showcases seamlessly integrated displays that allow custom shapes to be created by combining two or more standard TFT modules, providing a wide display effect in all operational modes, excellent optical performance and energy savings of up to 60% compared to traditional solutions. The system shown at IZB is driven by an integrated Cockpit Domain Control Unit, which consolidates Electronic Control Units in a unique Controller, for higher performance, cost optimization and a unified experience.
Marelli’s technologies for Smart Cabin combine interior design styling options, innovative user experience and cutting-edge electronics solutions. Marelli presents its haptic dashboard – based on vibration feedback instead of physical buttons – and broad collection of decorative materials, which can be integrated to develop a variety of decorative, informative, and interactive solutions.
Still coupling design and functionality are Marelli’s solutions for automotive lighting and sensing technologies, such as illuminated front panels, which are expected to become a growing trend in the future. The system allows for safety, communication and branding functionalities in a single panel, integrating lighting systems, sensors for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems and Autonomous Driving. The smart panels have the possibility to display or project messages and customised illuminated elements, with animation diversification enabled by software. The company also presents radar and LiDAR integration in headlamps, offering a stylish combination of illuminated surfaces and sensing functions, ensuring benefits for customers in terms of processes, safety and design.
Other technologies showcased by the company include solutions for emissions reduction, integrating competences from after-treatment and powertrain systems. In this area, Marelli displays the innovative gasoline Burner System solution for Catalyst fast warm-up. Further solutions in this field include the Compact Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve with advanced DC motor control, as well as high-performance, lightweight Heat Energy Recovery System with smart in-house design.
Finally, Marelli’s booth at IZB features some of the company’s most advanced suspension technologies, such as the rear axle carrier for electric engine with hydroformed tubes developed for a premium German OEM, representing the first technical application for Marelli suspensions in the full electric vehicle market. Thanks to a specific production process and a careful design, with an optimized stiffness of the frame, the solution ensures several benefits, including better vehicle handling and high acoustic and vibrational damping.

European Markets Close Lower As Investors Look Ahead To U.S. Inflation Data – CNBC https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/european-markets-close-lower-as-investors-look-ahead-to-u-s-inflation-data-cnbc/
European markets closed lower on Wednesday, with global growth concerns dominating sentiment and investors looking ahead to Thursday’s inflation data out of the U.S.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 ended down 0.1%, having bounced either side of the flatline throughout the session. Retail dropped 1.9% to lead losses, while banks were down 1%.
On Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund cut its global growth forecast for next year to 2.7%. The prediction is 0.2 percentage points lower than its July forecast, and suggests that 2023 will feel like a recession for millions around the world.
European markets closed lower on Tuesday. All major bourses and the majority of sectors ended the trading session in the red. The region’s markets have suffered consecutive losing days as volatility continues to rattle sentiment.
The Bank of England intervened again to restore order to U.K. markets on Tuesday, with volatility in long-dated government bonds posing what it called a “material risk to U.K. financial stability.”
Uncertainty in the bond market persisted on Wednesday as the U.K.’s gilt market sell-off spilled over into continental Europe.
BoE buys record 2.38 billion pounds of gilts at reverse auction
The Bank of England accepted all 2.3754 billion pounds ($2.63 billion) of long-dated conventional gilts which it was offered at its reverse auction, a record sum as the temporary purchase programme approaches its end.
The volume of gilts the BoE bought was the highest at any daily reverse auction since the programme started on Sept. 28, although the total sum offered was well below the 5 billion pounds which the BoE said it was prepared to buy.
Earlier on Wednesday the BoE said it bought 1.9798 billion pounds of index-linked gilts.

Stocks on the move: Chr. Hansen up 13%, Philips down 9%
Shares of Danish bioscience company Chr. Hansen jumped more than 13% by mid-afternoon, after a robust quarterly earnings report and promising outlook.
At the bottom of the Stoxx 600, Philips shares slumped more than 9% after the Dutch health tech firm issued a third-quarter profit warning and highlighted a 1.3 million euro ($1.26 billion) charge for its embattled sleep and respiratory care business.

UK gilt market chaos rattles euro zone bonds
The turmoil in U.K. gilt markets spilled over into the euro zone on Wednesday, with euro zone government bond yields rising sharply after the Bank of England confirmed the end of its emergency bond-buying program on Friday.
The 10-year German bund yield was up 8 basis points to 2.3880% during afternoon trade in Europe, having earlier notched its highest point in more than a decade, while Italian 10-year BTP yields also jumped. Yields move inversely to prices.
U.K. 30-year gilt yields were up by around 16 basis points at 4.963% while the 10-year yield was up by more than 9 basis points at 4.533%.

The Bank of England needs to keep the gilt market operating properly, says economist
Samy Chaar of Lombard Odier says “it’s very easy to say that pension funds have to get their act together,” but they would need a functioning gilt market with liquidity to do so.
Stocks on the move: Chr. Hansen up 11%, Philips down 11%

British pound whipsaws after mixed messages from the Bank of England
UK economy shrinks by 0.3% in August
U.K. GDP contracted by 0.3% month-on-month in August, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday, below expectations for stagnation from a Reuters poll of economists.
The fall in activity was driven partly by manufacturing weakness and maintenance work on North Sea oil and gas facilities, the ONS said, while both production and services activity fell.
July GDP growth was revised down to 0.1% from a previous estimate of 0.2%.
“While this figure is not what the country wants to see, it won’t make much of a difference to the path we are already on. The Bank of England (BoE) will continue to increase its base rate at it battles to tame runaway inflation,” said Marcus Brookes, chief investment officer at Quilter Investors.
“The BoE continues to face the incredibly difficult task of guiding the country through this uncertain period where it finds itself in a rock and a hard place by raising rates to meet inflation but embarking on a gilt buying operation to help steady the markets following the turmoil precipitated by the mini budget.”

One fund manager is cautioning against buying the dip, despite a 25% decline in the S&P 500 this year.

U.S. economy is doing well amid economic uncertainty, says Treasury Secretary Yellen
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the U.S. is “doing very well” amid global economic uncertainty.
Although the U.S. economy has slowed after a strong recovery, jobs reports indicate a resilient economy, she said in an interview Tuesday with CNBC’s Sara Eisen.
She also acknowledged that inflation is too high and that lowering it is a priority for the Biden administration, and emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy labor market while doing so.

IMF cuts global growth forecast for next year
CNBC Pro: This stock is a better bet than even U.S. Treasurys, fund manager says
Nick Griffin, chief investment officer at Munro Partners, is so bullish on one stock, he says it’s a better bet than U.S. Treasurys.
“It’s cheaper than a U.S. Treasury. It grows faster than the U.S. Treasury, and it’s probably got a better balance sheet than the U.S. Treasury. So from our point of view, it’s a fairly safe place to [put your] cash,” he said. Short-term U.S. Treasurys have surged in popularity among investors of late as yields pop.

Air Duct Cleaning West Palm Beach- Needed For Healthier Living EIN News
Air Duct Cleaning West Palm Beach- Needed For Healthier Living – EIN News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/air-duct-cleaning-west-palm-beach-needed-for-healthier-living-ein-news/
Clean Quality Air is available to help you get cleaner ducts and vents.
Air Duct Cleaning Tool
Air Duct Cleaning is needed for healthier living. If you’ve just moved to West Palm Beach or need to reduce allergens, vent and duct cleaning is recommended.
BOYNTON BEACH, FL, UNITED STATES, October 12, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Air duct cleaning is needed for all West Palm Beach residents to help improve the air quality in any household or business. With the high humidity levels in South Florida, it is not uncommon for mold and mildew to begin to form within ducts and around the vents leading throughout a home. Add that to typical air contaminants such as pet dander and dust, and vents regularly acquire dust, debris, and other allergens that can cause decreased health. Living with such symptoms is not necessary. Clean Quality Air offers fast and efficient air duct cleaning in West Palm Beach and surrounding areas.
Although West Palm Beach residents are used to the high humidity days and nights along the Atlantic coast, the climate is also perfect for mold and bacterial growth to form in AC vents. With recent severe storms and many areas losing electricity, mold and bacteria have more time to grow and accumulate within ducts. From Boynton Beach to Lake Worth, many residents struggling with breathing symptoms do not understand that their AC vents and ducts may be to blame.
While most homes have central air conditioning units, many homeowners and renters do not understand why an air duct cleaning service is necessary. Air ducts are the conduit to move cold air from the AC unit of a home or business throughout the establishment. While air conditioning units frequently run throughout the hot days and nights, there are most definitely times when they are off. As the moisture in the vents warms, bacteria begin to grow. This bacterial growth paired with dust and dander, can cause residents to struggle with allergies or asthma symptoms. Clean Quality Air is a top provider of air duct cleaning services in and around Palm Beach County.
The average summer climate of West Palm Beach is between 89 and 90 degrees. With such high temperatures, having a working HVAC unit in South Florida is not only a luxury but also a necessity for many Palm Beach residents. Waiting for air conditioning repair services can take longer than most residents can afford. Getting air ducts cleaned is a great way to prevent HVAC wear and tear, as it keeps pathways free from debris, allowing air to move more freely and with less wear on an AC system. Vent and Duct Cleaning is more than just vacuuming out the ducts and vents. This process requires a high-powered duct brush to ensure the HVAC system is not blowing contaminated air and spreading dust mites throughout a home or business. Air vents are also wiped down to remove any mold or bacteria growth.
Air Duct Cleaning Supports Health
West Palm Beach, FL, residents need good indoor air quality to prevent asthma and allergy symptoms from flaring up. Dust, smoke, pet dander, and other contaminants can trigger allergy symptoms and asthma. Air duct cleaning services rid vents of such contaminants, allowing the air coming through to be as fresh and clean as possible. Here are some things residents can do to improve their air quality between air duct cleaning services:
Cleaning for Pets-
Residents should dust and vacuum regularly to prevent hair and dander from entering HVAC ducts. Pet dander has been known to trigger allergy symptoms and can cause asthma to worsen when not cleaned frequently.
Wipe Down Vents-
Clean Quality Air understands that ceiling vents can exceed 14 feet in some South Florida homes, but it is important to wipe vent covers when changing air filters. It happens in almost all homes and businesses that the vents themselves or the edges of the vents will begin to have a layer of mold or discoloration. Once it has been noticed, this must be wiped off and should be serviced as soon as possible. Wiping the vents is part of the vent cleaning service from
Clean Quality Air.

Monthly filter changes are often required depending on the filters used in the home. Change air filters often, especially if outdoor air quality is compromised, such as in the case of natural wildfires and if the AC unit breaks and is off for a few days. Having effective filters helps with maintaining vents that are free from excessive buildup.
Pest Management-
Make sure the home or business is free from insects and rodents. These pests can leave fecal matter and debris in the vents, increasing bacteria and dust while decreasing air quality. Not only can bacteria build up around the waste material, but excessive dirt, debris, and buildup can interfere with the HVAC’s ability to easily push air through the system, causing the AC unit to work harder and circulating contaminated air throughout a home or business.
About Clean Quality Air
Clean Quality Air is available to all communities in West Palm Beach. The business will travel as far north as Port Saint Lucie and is active throughout the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County. The team has been servicing air ducts for many years and also offers dryer vent cleaning services to improve the energy efficiency of all areas of a home’s ventilation systems. Customer satisfaction is high, and the team often offers same-day or next-day service at a fair price.
As West Palm Beach has grown, so has the need for air duct cleaning services. West Palm Beach residents deserve clean ducts and healthier air to keep allergies and asthma at bay. Some health issues cannot be controlled, but when it comes to breathing conditions and allergies, doing what can be done to help maintain clean ducts helps residents stay healthy.
Clean Quality Air knows that health is a significant concern for many individuals and is offering same-day or next-day services to all residents, especially those moving into new homes or rentals. Proactively cleaning vents is a fantastic way to ensure bacteria, dander, dust, and insect debris are not pushed throughout a home, reducing health concerns and allergies. Outdoor air quality is uncontrollable, but indoor air quality is a choice for most West Palm Beach residents.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, USA, October 12, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — It is official! In Q3/2002 Upland.me, Inc. (Upland) has delivered 3rd party developer tools, car racing (Alpha), and metaventures (player-owned and operated shops), expanding its leading market position in the metaverse space. It is available via the web, iOS, and Android and is currently live in 20 US cities, Rio de Janeiro and Porto (Portugal) and can be played from anywhere in the world.
What is Upland?
Upland started as a “property trading game” (think Monopoly) developed on the blockchain and evolved today into a platform where creators, developers, entrepreneurs, and brands launch their own experiences and applications (think “iOS” for the metaverse).
It is one of the largest blockchain-based metaverses mapped to the real world with over 300k “landowners” with various game engagement points and surging up to 150K daily active users. Essential to Upland’s value proposition is to provide tools and features for the “entrepreneurial metaverse” where players can create and run their metaventures, like selling “outdoor decor”, collectibles, virtual cars, and other creations.
Upland is a strong proponent of the open metaverse and has developed an NFT gateway that allows users to import and export NFTs from and to other blockchains, such as virtual cars, digital art, avatars and more. To date, they have sold over Four Million NFTs.
How it all started?
Upland is a globally distributed organization. Its headquarters are in Silicon Valley, founded in 2018 by three serial entrepreneurs. Dirk Lueth is also the author of the Amazon bestseller book “Navigating the Metaverse“; initiator and co-founder of the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 http://oma3.org/, and his two partners, Mani Honigstein and Idan Zuckerman.
Started as a small venture, Upland is now 130-member strong and includes its R&D teams located in Eastern Europe and South America. Other team members are also from across Europe and the US. Partnerships for Upland include Tilia, NFLPA, FC Porto, Hyperloop, and others. In a recent interview with Funding & Disrupting, the Co-Founder Lueth shares how the rapid growth of Upland surprised him. He tells how Upland was challenged with the young technology of blockchain and to manage the growth of its platform when it initially began to soar. However, with time and constant effort, Upland is keeping pace with its growth.
Some Investor Talk
Upland’s main investor is C3 Venture Capital (“C3”), a venture capital company focused on managing early-stage venture funds which invest in exceptional technology companies worldwide. C3’s mission is, among other things, to accelerate growth, development and especially the adoption of blockchain technology.
Funding by C3 Venture Capital
Towards this mission, C3 manages the C3 VC Fund, which Blocks funds partly. One offers developers and entrepreneurs the funding they need to create community-driven businesses leveraging crypto and blockchain. C3 VC Fund focuses on early and growth-stage technology companies. C3 primarily focuses on businesses using US Blockchain technology.
C3 is managed by C3 Management GmbH, operates worldwide, and is in Frankfurt, Germany. They are currently in the process of raising their second investment fund with limited availability remaining.
Overall Outlook
The investment of C3 in the emerging technology of Upland is a partnership to be seen. These two companies are currently at the top of their game, and this funding is yielding even better results. C3 funded Upland, which uses US Blockchain during an early stage. In an interview, the Managing Partner of C3, Stefan, told how Upland did not even have enough documents for verification, but Upland’s strong business idea convinced investors of their product.
Upland is launching its third-party developer portal with an innovative idea, critical mindsets, and an ever-evolving team. This portal will allow users to explore Upland’s features like never before. We are waiting for more information and updates about the same.

Crypto Ecosystem Becomes More Developed Thus Less Decentralized: Morgan Stanley Seeking Alpha
Crypto Ecosystem Becomes More Developed Thus Less Decentralized: Morgan Stanley – Seeking Alpha https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/crypto-ecosystem-becomes-more-developed-thus-less-decentralized-morgan-stanley-seeking-alpha/
TU IS
Morgan Stanley analyst Sheena Shah argued Wednesday that the cryptocurrency ecosystem is becoming more centralized, though the underlying blockchains remain decentralized.
That’s partly because the “reliance of the running of a large portion of the blockchain on a single or small group of cloud service providers becomes a non-negligible risk to consider,” Shah wrote in a note to clients.
For instance, 65% of ethereum’s (ETH-USD) nodes are hosted by a cloud provider, with Amazon Web Services accounting for half of them, the note said. And problems could emerge if service providers decide to censor certain participants or crypto products, or if there are lengthy server outages.
“The crypto ecosystem has evolved over recent years with many applications, code, services and companies feeding into the underlying decentralized blockchains, which we would argue is causing parts of the broader crypto ecosystem to become less decentralised and more dependent on individual services,” Shah explained.
As part of ether’s (ETH-USD) centralization issue, 60% of the blockchain’s validators are managed by just four companies, Shah pointed out. Note that since ether’s transition to Proof-of-Stake from Proof-of-Work in mid-September, transactions have been approved by validators, canceling out the need for miners as part of the software update.
Another reason why the crypto world is becoming less decentralized is because the ecosystem has developed crypto-focused, regulation-friendly products that attract users, hence it’s “starting to look more like the centralised banking world,” the note said. TradFi is simultaneously rolling out crypto products to offer services such as custody for their clients. The Bank of New York Mellon (BK), for example, recently allowed some of its U.S.-based clients to hold and transfer bitcoin (BTC-USD) and ether (ETH-USD).
SA contributor The Digital Trend believes ether is the No. 1 commodity to hold for the next 10 years.

Producer price index increases 0.4% in September
PPI excluding food, energy, trade rises 0.4%
Producer prices up 8.5% year-on-year; core PPI gains 5.6%
WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – U.S. producer prices increased more than expected in September, but underlying goods prices posted their weakest reading in nearly 2-1/2 years as supply chains improved further, offering some hope in the battle against inflation.
The report from the Labor Department on Wednesday also suggested that producers could be struggling to pass on higher prices, with a measure of changes in margins received by wholesalers and retailers barely rising last month. Prices for intermediate goods and services also increased moderately.
“Inflation is all about pass-through costs at the lower level of production, so this report counts as some relief for beleaguered consumers who face runaway inflation on the goods sitting on store shelves,” said Christopher Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS in New York.

“The Fed’s war on inflation hasn’t been won yet, but at least the costs of goods at the producer level have stopped rising at a rate that looked out of control earlier this year.”
The producer price index for final demand rebounded 0.4% last month. Data for August was revised lower to show the PPI falling 0.2% instead of dipping 0.1% as previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the PPI rising 0.2%.
A 0.4% rise in the price of services accounted for two-thirds of the increase in the PPI in September. Services climbed 0.3% in August. More than a quarter of the rise in September was driven by a 6.4% surge in hotel and motel accommodation prices.
There were also increases in the costs of food and alcohol retailing, portfolio management, machinery and vehicle wholesaling, oil and gas well drilling services as well as hospital inpatient care. But prices for long-distance freight fell, as did fuels and lubricants retailing and consumer loans.
Prices for transportation and warehousing services slipped 0.2%, falling for a third straight month and also benefiting from the loosening of bottlenecks in supply chains. Margins for final demand trade services edged up 0.1%.
Goods prices increased 0.4% after declining 1.1% in August. A 1.2% jump in the price of food accounted for 60% of the increase in goods. Food prices were boosted by a 15.7% surge in the cost of fresh and dry vegetables. There were also increases in the prices for pork and chicken eggs.
Energy prices rose 0.7%, driven by diesel fuel, residential natural gas and home heating oil. But wholesale gasoline prices fell 2.0%. Excluding food and energy, goods prices were unchanged. This was the weakest reading for the so-called core goods since May 2020, and followed a 0.2% gain in August.
Core goods rose 7.5% in the 12 months through September, slowing from an 8.1% increase in August.
Annual core goods prices have been decelerating since peaking at 10.2% in April. Prices for processed intermediate goods ticked up 0.1%, while services rose 0.3%.
“The prospect for disinflation in the goods sector in coming months remains intact,” said Sarah House, a senior economist at Wells Fargo in Charlotte, North Carolina. “And further back in the pipeline, price growth for intermediate goods and services continues to trend lower and corroborate our view that the worst of inflation is likely over, even if price growth is likely to remain elevated for a while yet.”
Stocks on Wall Street edged up. The dollar was steady against a basket of currencies. U.S. Treasury prices rose.
SUPPLY CHAINS EASING
In the 12 months through September, the PPI increased 8.5% after advancing 8.7% in August, reflecting the improvement in supply chains as well as a retreat in commodity prices from the highs seen in the spring.
But oil prices have likely bottomed following last week’s decision by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies to cut crude production. Russia’s war against Ukraine poses an upside risk to commodity prices.
Data on Thursday is likely to show consumer prices picking up in September, according to a Reuters survey of economists, paving the way for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by 75 basis points next month for the fourth time this year.
Financial markets have almost priced in a rate hike of three-quarters of a percentage point at the U.S. central bank’s Nov. 1-2 policy meeting, according to CME’s FedWatch Tool. The Fed has since March raised its policy rate from near zero to the current range of 3.00% to 3.25%.
Excluding the volatile food, energy and trade services components, producer prices also rose 0.4% in September.
The core PPI increased 0.2% in August. In the 12 months through September, the core PPI rose 5.6% after a similar gain in August. Inflation by all measures is running well above the Fed’s 2% target.
“Improvements in supply chains have cooled core goods prices, but price pressures everywhere else are a reminder that supply chain healing is insufficient to bring down overall price inflation,” said Will Compernolle a senior economist at FHN Financial in New York.

Analysis | ‘Responsible Social Media’ Council Looks To Bridge Divides On Tech – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/analysis-responsible-social-media-council-looks-to-bridge-divides-on-tech-the-washington-post/
Happy Wednesday! Who had “Meta announces legs” on their headline bingo card this week? Brag away and send tips to: cristiano.lima@washpost.com.
Below: The Biden administration announces a proposal affecting gig workers, and Meta’s metaverse pitch for businesses faces some challenges. First:
‘Responsible social media’ council looks to bridge divides on tech
Public officials in Washington for years have sparred along partisan lines over whether social media platforms take down too much or too little hate speech and misinformation.
A council launching this week aims to sidestep those disputes by proposing reforms that tackle issues of bipartisan concern, including children’s safety and national security.
The newly minted Council for Responsible Social Media, set up by the nonpartisan nonprofit Issue One, features a wide-ranging and influential lineup of former U.S. lawmakers and federal officials, advocates, scholars, industry leaders and whistleblowers.
They include former Democratic House majority leader Dick Gephardt, former defense secretary and White House chief of staff Leon Panetta, former Jan. 6 House select committee adviser and Republican congressman Denver Riggleman, former Google ethicist and Center for Humane Technology co-founder Tristan Harris and Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.
“This is not a think tank. This is an action tank,” Gephardt told The Technology 202. “We want to see results.”
The group is staking out three initial areas of focus: how social media platforms may adversely affect children’s mental health, how they can be weaponized by foreign adversaries to the detriment of U.S. national security and how they may exacerbate societal divisions.
“The core goal of the commission is to really show that there are bipartisan paths forward … that involve having companies have to actually talk about what is their role in society,” Haugen said in an interview.
Haugen said the council can move the debate around social media accountability forward by focusing on areas of “common ground,” like concerns around algorithmic amplification, transparency and platform design choices.
Haugen said proposals the council might explore include giving users, particularly children, the option to “reset algorithms” so they do not keep wandering down the same risky “rabbit holes.”
By focusing on systemic issues, she said, the group might be able to help build support for ideas that sidestep thorny speech debates.
The council has received roughly $250,000 in funding collectively from the Omidyar Network, the Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust and the Wend Collective, according to Issue One spokesperson Cory Combs. Combs said the council has not received direct funding from any tech companies. Some of the members, including Gephardt and Panetta, have ties to firms that have represented industry giants.
The Omidyar Network, a philanthropic venture launched by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, has pushed for greater regulation of the tech giants. The Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust is a foundation that describes itself as a “support organization” for Jewish communities. The Wend Collective is a philanthropic group launched by Walmart magnate James Walton.
The council may also rally around legislation that already has bipartisan support, such as recent Senate bills on kids’ online safety and platform transparency, Haugen said.
One of those proposals, the Kids Online Safety Act, would give parents greater control over their children’s online activity and require that platforms give kids the option to opt out of algorithmic recommendations and other potentially harmful features. The other, the Platform Accountability and Transparency Act, would force companies to turn over data about their services to researchers, or face fresh liability threats if they don’t.
Both proposals have bipartisan support, and the children’s safety bill advanced out of committee in the Senate with broad backing. But neither has a counterpart in the House, and the latter hasn’t been formally introduced, signaling they may both still face a long path to passage.
The council is also poised to shine a brighter spotlight on how U.S. companies may be playing into the hands of foreign adversaries — scrutiny that has largely focused on TikTok, owned by Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance.
The council includes a slew of national security heavyweights, including former defense secretary Chuck Hagel, former CIA director Porter Goss and former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency director Chris Krebs.
Haugen said one concept the group may explore is requiring “consistent reporting” by companies about how much they are investing to counter foreign influence operations.
The group is launching ahead of a summit in Washington on Thursday, where it plans to lay out a “plan of action for the months and years ahead,” according to a release.
Uber, Lyft, DoorDash shares drop after Biden administration announces gig worker rule
The new proposal would require gig firms to consider workers as employees when they’re “economically dependent” on the company, Rachel Lerman reports. The share prices of Uber, Lyft and DoorDash slid on the news.
Uber said the Labor Department listened to drivers, and argued that drivers prefer the “flexibility” of being independent contractors. Lyft said it would return gig firms to similar rules from the Obama administration, which “did not result in reclassification of drivers.”
The AFL-CIO and Gig Workers Rising praised the proposed rule, but some critics said it didn’t go far enough.
Officials at federal regulators invested in tech stocks
More than 1 in 5 top federal officials disclosed investments in firms that were lobbying their agencies, the Wall Street Journal’s Rebecca Ballhaus, Brody Mullins, Chad Day, John West, Joe Palazzolo and James V. Grimaldi report.
“While the government was ramping up scrutiny of big technology companies, more than 1,800 federal officials reported owning or trading” stock in Amazon, Apple, Facebook or Google, they write. “More than five dozen officials at five agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department, reported trading stock in companies shortly before their departments announced enforcement actions, such as charges and settlements, against those companies.”
Some agencies waived rules when the investments caused a conflict. In most cases that the Wall Street Journal identified, ethics officials said employees complied with ethics rules, which have some exceptions allowing officials to hold stock in firms that conflict with their agencies’ work.
Meta pitches the metaverse to corporate America with its new VR headset
The company’s new $1,500 virtual-reality headset will be integrated with ubiquitous Microsoft products, but it’s not clear if that’ll be enough to sway firms to Meta over Apple and TikTok parent ByteDance, which offer or are expected to release their own technology, Naomi Nix reports. Meta has significantly invested in chief executive Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of the metaverse as a place where virtual-reality experiences transform people’s lives.
“The biggest impediment to Meta’s plans doesn’t have an easy fix: The technology required to accomplish some of Meta’s biggest ambitions for its VR devices is, by its own admission, still years away,” Naomi writes. “Even if Meta manages to continue elbowing out its headset competitors, there is no guarantee that most people will want to don the headsets and spend their lives in a virtual world.”
Avatars in the Meta metaverse will soon have legs. Our colleague Naomi Nix:

Nuclear Attack: New York 1 Of The Worst Places To Live In America – Hudson Valley Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/nuclear-attack-new-york-1-of-the-worst-places-to-live-in-america-hudson-valley-post/
Fears of a nuclear attack are unfortunately growing and it turns out New York State is not a good place to live.
Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted nuclear weapons might be used to defend Russia. Following those comments, the United States warned Russia of “disastrous consequences” if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden said Russia’s threats showed a “reckless disregard” for the Nuclear Treaty.
“For the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, we have a direct threat of the use of a nuclear weapon if, in fact, things continue down the path they are going,” President Joe Biden said late week in New York. “We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.”

“The U.S.’s largest metro economy and the most densely populated metro area, New York City is a highly likely civilian target. Home to Wall Street, the city was already the target of several terrorist attacks, including the 9/11 attacks that crippled the city for days. The New York Stock Exchange closed for four days, its longest shutdown since 1933. Perhaps as a result, the city is far more prepared than most. Still, evacuating from Manhattan has proven to be very difficult,” the website states about New York.
The Washington D.C. area was ranked the worst place to live in the event of a nuclear attack. 24/7 Wall Street ranked 15 cities. New York City ranked the second worst in terms of evacuation while population density ranked first.
A nuclear attack in New York could result in over 1.7 billion deaths and about 3.2 million injuries, according to 24/7.

The United States seems to be preparing for a nuclear event. Last week, the U.S. government purchased an anti-radiation drug. On Oct. 4, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed officials purchased a drug that can be used in “radiological and nuclear emergencies.”

Disney Raises Prices On Tickets Genie Plus Line-Cutting Service The Washington Post
Disney Raises Prices On Tickets, Genie Plus Line-Cutting Service – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/disney-raises-prices-on-tickets-genie-plus-line-cutting-service-the-washington-post/
When Disney launched its new tool that lets visitors avoid long lines for rides last year, fans griped that they were being forced to pay for a perk they once got free.
Now, most visitors will have to pay even more for the privilege. Cue a new round of complaints about “money grubbing” and “nickel and diming.”
“Every time this happens, fans go online to vow that they won’t return to Disney again,” Robert Niles, editor of Theme Park Insider, said in an email. “And maybe they don’t, but plenty of other visitors do keep coming to the parks, allowing Disney to keep bringing in more and more revenue. I expect this price increase to result in the same.”
Disney’s parks in Florida and California rolled out new prices on Tuesday for the Genie Plus service, which allows guests toavoid lengthy waits. How much will the cost go up? That depends where you’re going, which day you’re visiting and — in California — when you buy the add-on.
At Walt Disney World in Florida, the world’s busiest theme park complex, the price used to be $15 regardless of the day. For October, the cost will vary between $15 and $22, depending on how busy the four parks are on a particular day. After this month? No one is saying.
Admission has been based on demand for several years, with the slowest days priced at $109 for a one-day, one-park ticket and busier dates climbing to $159; those prices did not change in Florida. That means a family buying tickets for a visit in the slow season in late August can expect to pay far less than someone visiting during the popular winter holidays.
The company encourages guests to check the My Disney Experience app on the day of their visit, which is the only time Florida guests can purchase Genie Plus. That means park goers there won’t know how much they’ll need to spend until they’re on vacation — though steeper admission on busy days could be a hint that the service will also be on the pricier end.
Disney charges for faster access to a handful of its most popular rides separately from Genie Plus; those “individual Lightning Lanes” were already priced variably. Deadline reported that the price range to skip the lines of some of those attractions would expand to include higher fees on busier days.
The change is meant to “continue managing strong demand,” Walt Disney World said.
I opened up a question box on my Instagram stories to see how people were feeling about today’s Disney Parks updates.
With hundreds of replies so far, the words I’m seeing repeated most are
Stressed, Exhausted, Frustrated, Anxious, Annoyed, Complicated, Tired and Overwhelmed.

At Disneyland Resort in California, the cost of Genie Plus now starts at $25, according to its website. That’s up from $20. The Los Angeles Times reported that the price will be $25 when purchased with a ticket or package in advance but variable when visitors buy it after entering the park.
Disneyland also increased the price of admission on its busiest days to $179. The L.A. Times said the highest-priced ticket was previously $164; the paper reported that a two-day ticket that used to cost $255 is now $285.
“I’m not surprised by these price increases,” Len Testa, president of the theme-park trip-planning site Touring Plans and co-author of the Unofficial Guides to Walt Disney World and Disneyland, said in an email. “Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s comments on the last earnings call and subsequent investor meetings were pretty clear: they’re going to increase prices until demand falls off.”
Disney parks, experiences and products reported $7.4 billion in revenue for the quarter that ended July 2, a 70 percent improvement from the previous year. It was $7.2 billion in the first fiscal quarter, when Chapek said the company’s domestic parks and resorts “achieved all-time revenue and operating income records despite the omicron surge.”
During an earnings call in August, Chapek said about half of the people who visit the parks “buy up” to the product. And last month, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, said at a conference that Genie Plus was “doing phenomenally well” and selling more than executives expected.
He said that in surveys of guests who have bought the product, as well as those who have shelled out for a separate line-skipping option for the highest-demand rides, 70 percent say they will make the purchase again.
“So we know we’re on to something with this,” he said. “It was a change to the system. So there’s going to be some reaction to it, which we would expect. But we know when a guest does buy it, they’re getting what they paid for, and they’re feeling really good about it.”
But Leslie Harvey, founder of the site Trips With Tykes and co-founder of the Disneyland with Kids Facebook group, said some fans are frustrated because they are having to spend more for an experience that they feel is not worth the higher price. On a recent trip, she said she had “never seen so many animatronics broken on rides.”
75% of the people complaining about Genie+ today, will pay for Genie+ at peak pricing… and because of that, Disney will continue to increase the price. Call it a money grab if you want, but, don’t forget that you’re enabling it.

“People are always upset any time there’s a Disneyland price increase,” she said.
She added: “Some people really do feel priced out.”
Testa said Disney observers noted years ago that the company “had essentially abandoned the middle class,” targeting instead the top-earning 1 percent to 20 percent of American households.
“I think the big concern Disney’s going to face next is that at those premium prices, consumers are going to expect a premium experience,” he said in his email. “And we’ve started to see families say things like, ‘For the kind of prices Disney’s charging to see their replica of St. Mark’s Square in EPCOT, I can bring my whole family to the real Italy for a week.’ So I think that’s the new big concern for them.”
