Crypto Bank Silvergate To Miss Goal Of Offering Stablecoin This Year – CoinDesk https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/crypto-bank-silvergate-to-miss-goal-of-offering-stablecoin-this-year-coindesk/ Michael Bellusci is CoinDesk’s crypto reporter focused on public companies and digital asset firms. Silvergate Capital (SI) is no longer on track to bring its own Stablecoin to market this year, though CEO Alan Lane said the company continues to work closely with regulators on the matter. “We’re certainly disappointed that it looks like we’re gonna miss our goal of launching it this year,” Lane said on Silvergate’s earnings conference call Tuesday. The company, Lane added, is working diligently to build its operational and regulatory compliance “muscle” to ensure a smooth launch. At the start of this 2022, Silvergate bought the technology and other assets from Diem – the stablecoin project from Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) that was first announced as Libra back in June 2019. The delay isn’t related to any technology issues for the project, said Lane, who still believes Silvergate is in a strong position versus other banks to bring its own tokenized dollar to the blockchain. Silvergate shares fell over 20% in Tuesday’s trading session after reporting an earnings miss that included a slowdown in USD transfers and digital deposits, along with the stablecoin delay. Lafarge Pleads Guilty To U.S. Charge Of Supporting Islamic State, To Pay $778 Million – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/lafarge-pleads-guilty-to-u-s-charge-of-supporting-islamic-state-to-pay-778-million-reuters/ NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters) – French cement maker Lafarge pleaded guilty in U.S. court on Tuesday to a charge that it made payments to groups designated as terrorists by the United States, including Islamic State, so the company could keep operating in Syria. The admission in Brooklyn federal court marked the first time a company has pleaded guilty in the United States to charges of providing material support to a terrorist organization. Lafarge, which became part of Swiss-listed Holcim (HOLN.S) in 2015, agreed to pay $778 million in forfeiture and fines as part of the plea agreement. U.S. prosecutors said Lafarge and its Syrian subsidiary Lafarge Cement Syria paid Islamic State and al Nusra Front, through intermediaries, the equivalent of approximately $5.92 million between 2013 and 2014 to allow employees, customers and suppliers to pass through checkpoints after civil conflict broke out in Syria. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com That allowed the company to earn $70 million in sales revenue from a plant it operated in northern Syria, prosecutors said. “Lafarge made a deal with the devil,” Breon Peace, the top federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, told reporters following the guilty plea. “This conduct by a Western corporation was appalling and has no precedent or justification.” Lafarge eventually evacuated the cement plant in September 2014, U.S. prosecutors said. At that point, Islamic State took possession of the remaining cement and sold it for the equivalent of $3.21 million, prosecutors said. Lafarge Chair Magali Anderson said in court on Tuesday that from August 2013 until November 2014 former executives of the company “knowingly and willfully agreed to participate in a conspiracy to make and authorize payments intended for the benefit of various armed groups in Syria.” The logo of French concrete maker Lafarge is seen on the plant of Bercy on the banks of the river Seine in Paris, France, September 3, 2020. REUTERS/Charles Platiau In a statement, Holcim noted that none of the conduct involved Holcim, “which has never operated in Syria, or any Lafarge operations or employees in the United States, and it is in stark contrast with everything that Holcim stands for.” Holcim said that former Lafarge executives involved in the conduct concealed it from Holcim, as well as from external auditors. Without naming Holcim, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco told reporters that the company that acquired Lafarge did not perform due diligence of the Syria operations. No Lafarge executives were charged in the United States. Monaco said that French authorities have arrested some of the executives involved but did not provide names. U.S. court records refer to six unnamed Lafarge executives. Eric Olsen, the company’s first chief executive following the merger, left the company in 2017 after the firm admitted to paying armed groups in Syria. Olsen said at the time that he was not involved in or aware of the payments. Anderson said in court that the individuals responsible had not been with the company since at least 2017. The SIX Swiss Exchange suspended trading in Holcim shares before the news. Shares rose as much as 3.2% when trading resumed. Lafarge is also facing charges of complicity in crimes against humanity in Paris. The cement maker previously admitted after an internal investigation that its Syrian subsidiary paid armed groups to help protect staff at the plant. But it had denied charges that it was complicit in crimes against humanity. Maritime Sustainment Technology Innovation Consortium Reaches Its 300th Member Milestone – DVIDS https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/maritime-sustainment-technology-innovation-consortium-reaches-its-300th-member-milestone-dvids/ The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division-created Maritime Sustainment Technology Innovation Consortium (MSTIC) recently reached its 300th member milestone as Systel, Inc. based in Sugar Land, Texas was recently added to the membership. Established in June 2021, the MSTIC has worked to promote a culture of open communication through the Other Transaction Authority (OTA). According to the MSTIC website (mstic.org), the OT is a “streamlined purchasing vehicle that brings innovative research findings and state-of-the-art prototypes from industry to the federal government. OT-based collaborations are not subject to some of the regulations that apply to Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)-based acquisitions,” which, “allows government and industry to communicate more openly, from requirement generation to the proposal stage.” With the added freedom the OTA affords, the MSTIC can boast a diverse group of traditional and non-traditional defense contractors, allowing NSWCPD to stay at the forefront of technological advancements. “The MSTIC is a collection of traditional and non-traditional Defense Contractors, large and small businesses that are well qualified, providing a unique capability in relevant technology areas and accelerating the developmental path to greater innovative solutions and ideas to government requirements,” MSTIC Agreements Officer Alicia McPeters said. Advanced Technology International (ATI), a non-profit, was awarded the NSWCPD’s first OTA back in June 2021 to create and manage the MSTIC under the OT Authority. McPeters and the rest of the team tasked with awarding the OT Agreement along with ATI added four more members to the MSTIC since the milestone membership count was reached. To date, the 304 MSTIC members include six academic institutions, five non-profit organizations, 102 large businesses, and 191 small businesses. The OTA continues to help foster innovation for NSWCPD with 242 of the MSTIC members categorized as nontraditional contractors. “Ultimately, the MSTIC will bring best-in-class solutions to our warfighters and missions by utilizing the OTA for prototype projects. The OTA is the tool to our success and MSTIC is the collaboration team of innovators that will develop the sustainment solutions to address current and future threats in our maritime environments,” McPeters said on the OTA’s usefulness and the MSTIC’s importance to the NSWCPD. The MSTIC’s future only looks brighter with many developments planned in the coming years and large amounts of funding being given to members. “To date, the team has awarded seven Prototype Project Orders with an estimated value of $7.3 million. These Prototype Projects support various solutions across the command, including a range of efforts such as research and development prototype solutions for energy-efficient thermal technology management, data collection, and analytics of various ships systems, as well as commercial solutions for form, fit, and function on standard Navy components. An additional 21 Project Order awards are anticipated for Fiscal Year 2023 Quarter 1, valued at approximately $56.9 million,” McPeters said. NSWCPD employs approximately 2,800 civilian engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel. The NSWCPD team does the research and development, test and evaluation, acquisition support, and in-service and logistics engineering for the non-nuclear machinery, ship machinery systems, and related equipment and material for Navy surface ships and submarines. NSWCPD is also the lead organization providing cybersecurity for all ship systems.

Several countries have removed the COVID-19 restrictions, but many countries insist on COVID-related documents. Not just that. The majority of countries have made it mandatory to wear face masks in indoor arenas and on public transport. Vaccination is not compulsory for passengers, but it helps avoid the COVID test on arrival. These restrictions are necessary since the vaccine coverage of populations is low compared to the rest of the world. Here’s a list of 20 popular tourist destinations and the COVID measures at these places. 1. Algeria ALGERIA: In the southern regions, the land becomes arid and desolate before it transforms into the Sahara, thousands of square kilometres of dunes, mountains and rocks. The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 58,961, up 550 points or 0.94 per cent, while the Nifty50 closed at 17,487, up by 175 points or 1 per cent. The indices hit intra-day highs of 59,144, and 17,528, respectively. Moving on – Software company Adobe has announced new partnerships with Mastercard, e-commerce company Etsy and Facebook’s parent Meta to support creativity and productivity for small and medium business customers. The partnerships will provide SMBs with special access to Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Document Cloud, the company announced at its annual conference for creative work Adobe MAX on Monday in Los Angeles. Adobe said its tie-up with Meta will offer a training programme Express Your Brand, which provides free education and tools, to SMBs to grow their presence and visibility online. This included granting annual Adobe Express premium subscriptions to 10,000 Black, Latinx and Hispanic-owned businesses. Through the Mastercard partnership, Mastercard BusinessCard and World Elite Mastercard for Business cardholders will get access to over 20 Adobe Creative Cloud applications like Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Express. In other news – Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said there is a huge demand for air travel after the pandemic and urged eight states and Union Territories to reduce the tax on jet fuel. Air traffic growth will be driven by smaller cities, he said and emphasised the need for developing airport infrastructure in such places. The minister requested Goa, Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar and Tamil Nadu to reduce the VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel. The domestic air traffic is inching closer to pre-COVID level and in recent times, the daily passenger numbers crossed the four lakh mark twice. Scindia said that Value Added Tax (VAT) on jet fuel is still high in eight states and Union Territories in the range of 20-30 per cent and urged them to reduce the rate. Jet fuel cost accounts for a significant part of an airline’s operational costs. Meanwhile – State-owned Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation has reported nearly four-fold rise in its consolidated profit at Rs 151.2 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2022. The company had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 40.4 crore in the year-ago period, GMDC said in a filing to BSE. The consolidated income of the public sector enterprise increased to Rs 591.4 crore in the July-September period from Rs 494.7 crore in the year-ago quarter, the filing said. GMDC is country’s second largest lignite producer. In other developments – According to Colliers India, leasing of industrial and warehousing space rose 9 per cent during January-September to 17.5 million square feet across five cities on better demand. The gross leasing stood at 16 million square feet across five major cities in the year-ago period. As per the data, the leasing of industrial and warehousing space in Bengaluru rose 2 per cent to 2.3 million square feet in January-September from 2.2 million square feet in the year-ago period. Chennai saw a 31 per cent decline in leasing to 2.2 million square feet from 3.1 million square feet. The leasing of industrial and warehousing in Delhi-NCR rose 42 per cent to 6.8 million square feet in January-September from 4.8 million square feet a year ago. In Mumbai, the leasing went up by 39 per cent to 2.6 million square feet from 1.9 million square feet. Leasing of industrial and warehousing space in Pune fell 11 per cent to 3.6 million square feet during January-September from 4 million square feet in the corresponding period of the previous year. Lastly – As festivals are often associated with new beginnings and prosperity, housing sales usually increase during these periods. For example, DLF – which recently launched its newest luxury residential project The Grove, at DLF5, Gurugram – claims to have sold all 292 luxury residences in just eight days, indicating the robust demand. The festive season of Navratras, Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali is the time of year when home buyers opt for high-ticket purchases, which provides a significant boost to the real estate sector and is marked by the launch of new projects, as well as a variety of benefits to attract home buyers. According to industry insiders, real incomes have grown faster than housing prices, resulting in homes being perceived as a good investment option. The sector has performed well in recent months, and this trend is expected to continue.

Health Makers: Ron Gura 38 Co-Founder And CEO Of Empathy Everyday Health
Health Makers: Ron Gura, 38, Co-Founder And CEO Of Empathy – Everyday Health https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/health-makers-ron-gura-38-co-founder-and-ceo-of-empathy-everyday-health/ By Ron Gura as told to Abby Ellin I’ve been thinking about bereavement and the impact it has on families my whole life. My middle brother, Amir, died of a rare childhood cancer at age 8. I was very, very young, but I knew there was something different about us. My mother kept my brother’s room locked. It was a weird, constant reminder that something had happened, this taboo topic that we really didn’t talk about. I wish I could have lessened the burden for my mother. Death is kind of like my brother’s door: always present, seen but never spoken of. I think we are a grief illiterate culture. Kids ask questions about mortality: ‘What happened to Mufasa in The Lion King?’ Parents say ‘Nothing.’ That shouldn’t be. We should understand that life is precious. For something that doesn’t skip any of us, nobody’s getting any death support — time-saving tools, streamlining workflows, all the good stuff we get in every other aspect of life. When someone dies, there are 540 hours of paperwork, and red tape to manage in the days, months, and sometimes years after. My friend and co-founder, Yonatan Bergman, and I wanted people to understand the cost of dying — not just the financials, but all of it. In late 2020 we started working on the company, called Empathy. We like to say that Empathy is the friend you wish you had when you lose a loved one. The knowledgeable, experienced friend who is helping you out with grief but who is also the Turbo Tax for estate administration. We raised $13 million in seed money and launched in May 2021. Empathy streamlines the logistics following loss, guiding families through all of these challenges and taking on some of the burden for them. We hired renowned grief expert, David Kessler, as our Chief Empathy officer is David Kessler. David worked with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, MD, and manages our emotional support team and care specialists. But it’s not just about emotional care. On average, the total financial cost of dying is $12,702, including the funeral and professional help. The funeral alone is $7,267. But that doesn’t take into account the productivity hit, the therapists or social workers you might hire. That doesn’t include the paperwork and lost time. Almost 80 percent of people use funds from their checking accounts to pay for a death. Most people know that caregiving is a big, unappreciated job, but caring and giving doesn’t stop after the loss. Being the executor is another job. We have people who are escorting their loved ones to hospice and want to start planning ahead. But the vast majority of our clients come to us in the first 48 hours after the loss. They’re not sure what can wait and what needs to be taken care of right away. They’re overwhelmed. We have a website and app and also offer a service that gives step-by-step instructions for everything you need to take care of, tailored to you, after losing a loved one. It doesn’t matter if you are Jewish or Muslim or Christin or any other religion. We understand that everyone has their own unique situation. You can test it for free, and then it’s $8.99 a month. Empathy has partnerships with companies in the funeral space, hospice space, and New York Life. You’ll find information on funeral arrangements, claiming benefits, taxes, probate, selling the house, self-care. Earlier this year, we published the Cost of Dying (PDF) report, in which we asked 2,000 U.S. families about how they dealt with the loss of a loved one. Almost 30 percent said they hadn’t done any estate planning. People don’t compare pricing, they don’t plan ahead, they don’t even do advance directives or a trust. Most people use their own funds, credit cards, or cashed in investments, to pay their expenses. People need to talk about death. They should understand death is a part of life. It’s not something to hide. Ignoring it doesn’t allow us to celebrate life as we are supposed to.

6 Best Wireless Chargers For Google Pixel 7 And Pixel 7 Pro Guiding Tech
6 Best Wireless Chargers For Google Pixel 7 And Pixel 7 Pro Guiding Tech
6 Best Wireless Chargers For Google Pixel 7 And Pixel 7 Pro – Guiding Tech https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/6-best-wireless-chargers-for-google-pixel-7-and-pixel-7-pro-guiding-tech/ The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are Google’s latest flagships so they ought to come with flagship features. One of those features is wireless charging. Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro can be charged just by placing them on a wireless charging pad making it extremely convenient to juice up the phones. This might entice you to get a wireless charger for your Pixel 7 series device. While there are plenty of options, we’ve made it easy for you by compiling a list of the best wireless chargers for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Right from flat pucks to vertical stands, we’ve covered them all. You can opt for the one that’s best suited to your needs. Before we get to the products, though, here are some other articles that may interest you: Take a look at some of the best Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro fast chargers that you can buy which you can use even to power a wireless charger. If you wish to charge your Pixel 7/Pixel 7 Pro in your car, here are some of the best USB-C car chargers with power delivery. With that out of the way, let’s tell you how you can conveniently rest your phone on a wireless charging pad. 1. INIU Wireless Charger This wireless charger from INIU has a vertical orientation, meaning your phone remains upright to view the time and notifications. It has an output rating of 15W so it can charge your Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro relatively fast. There’s an LED indicator on the side with a bedside mode that doesn’t hurt your eyes in the dark. The INIU is an inexpensive wireless charger that’s a great fit for your work desk or your bedside table. Since the Pixel 7 or 7 Pro rests vertically, it’s easy to unlock using your fingerprint or face without having to pick up the device. It’s also convenient to quickly glance at the screen to check pending notifications or if you’re receiving a call. As per the brand’s claims, this Pixel 7 wireless charger has an in-built temperature guard that prevents both the charger itself and your phone from overheating. You get a USB-C cable in the box along with the wireless charger but there’s no adapter included so you will have to buy a charger separately. Also, if you use a thick case, some users have complained that the charging stops intermittently so keep this in mind. Additionally, you also get a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 3-year warranty if things go south. 2. Anker PowerWave II Pad If you don’t like a vertical stand as a wireless charger since it may be distracting or you feel your Pixel 7/7 Pro won’t stay secure, you can opt for a flat wireless charging pad like this one from Anker. It has a minimalistic design that looks like a hockey puck so it will fit into any environment. The Anker PowerWave II Pad is a flatbed wireless charger that can charge your Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at 15W. It has a rubber ring around the top surface so when you rest your phone on it, it’s not going to slip around. This is quite useful since wireless charging relies on your smartphone being placed accurately on top of the charger. While a lot of users prefer this design, the biggest disadvantage is that every time you want to use your phone, you will have to lift it from the wireless charging pad which pauses the charging. Another downside of the Anker wireless charger for the Pixel 7 is that it uses a proprietary adaptor to connect to a wall outlet. While the adaptor is provided in the box, it would be nice if Anker used a USB-C port since it’s universal. If you use a thick case on your phone, reviews say that this charging pad still works fine which is nice. And if you face any problems, the product comes with an 18-month warranty. 3. iOttie Ion Wireless Fast Charging Stand If you’re a fan of gadgets that look aesthetic, you absolutely can’t go wrong with the iOttie Ion wireless charging stand. It has a fabric exterior that is similar to the finish you get on Google’s Nest speakers. Thanks to the attractive design, it doubles up as a nice accessory to showcase on your desk along with charging your Pixel 7. Most wireless chargers have a boring design. When iOttie set out to make a wireless charger for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, it seems like they took this point seriously and decided to make a wireless charger that stands out from the crowd. Apart from the way it looks, the charging stand is also quite functional and comes with 2 Qi charging coils as opposed to the single one that most brands offer. As a result, you can rest your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro in both vertical and horizontal orientations. The latter is helpful when you’re watching a video and you want to charge your phone simultaneously. While this seems like a great Pixel 7 Pro wireless charger, what might put you off slightly is that the charging speed is limited to 10W; so it will charge your phone considerably slower. The brand is kind enough to include an 18W charging brick in the box along with a USB-C cable so you’re getting the complete package. 4. Belkin BoostCharge Wireless Charger Pad Here’s another flat wireless charger for those who prefer this design. The Belkin BoostCharge has a stealthy design with the option of getting an all-black or an all-white colorway. It’s quite compact in terms of diameter which also makes it a good portable wireless charger for your Pixel 7. Belkin is known to make good-quality smartphone accessories and this wireless charger is no different. It outputs a maximum of 15W of power which is pretty fast according to wireless charging standards. There are rubberized segments on top of the charging surface that help keep your phone in place. The brand is also kind enough to provide a USB-C cable and an 18W power adapter in the box. As per the reviews, the only real downside of this charger is that it is rather thick which takes away from the overall aesthetic. It also has a white LED on the front which is too bright as per some users if you charge your phone at night. Further, the charger comes with a 2-year warranty and Qi certification to offer the best experience. 5. Google Pixel Stand 2nd Gen This is arguably the best wireless charger for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro purely based on the extra features that you get. While most wireless chargers perform just one task — charge your phone — the Pixel Stand lets you control smart devices in your home, adjust your thermostat, or check your Nest cam when resting your phone on it. Since the Pixel Stand is made directly by Google, it works in tandem with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to give you handy features that you wouldn’t get with regular wireless chargers. If you’re deep into the Google ecosystem, this is something you’ll surely appreciate. It’s also got a minimalistic standing design. Apart from the smart features, the Pixel Stand is also a bit faster than other wireless chargers on this list at 23W. This is pretty much the speed you get with wired charging too on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. There’s a cooling fan inside to keep your phone from overheating. Going by the reviews, the only downside of the Google Pixel Stand is that it can’t charge your phone in the landscape orientation. So, if you wish to watch videos when your phone is charging, that won’t be possible. It’s also on the pricier side but if you appreciate the extra features, it’s a great purchase for your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. If you don’t want as many features and are fine with a slightly slower charger, you can also consider the Pixel Stand 1st Gen which is now available for a discounted price. 6. Samsung 15W Wireless Charger Duo Samsung’s Wireless Charger Duo is for those of you who have multiple devices compatible with wireless charging. So, if you also bought the Pixel Watch or a Galaxy Watch, and a pair of wireless earbuds that support wireless charging, this is a helpful accessory to have on your desk. As the name suggests, the Samsung wireless charger for the Pixel 7 series can charge 2 devices simultaneously. You get 2 wireless charging beds — one for your phone, and the other for charging either another phone or an accessory. The total output wattage is 15W which is split across both coils so if you’re charging 2 devices, you won’t get the maximum speed for your phone. Since charging 2 devices at the same time may generate heat, Samsung was thoughtful to provide a fan inside the charger to cool down the temperatures. Samsung is charging you quite a bit for this charging pad but still doesn’t ship an adapter inside the package which is a bummer. If you don’t want the 2-in-1 convenience, you can pick up 2 separate wireless chargers for much cheaper than this product so that’s something to consider. Charge With Ease While it’s not the most efficient way to juice up your phone, wireless charging is extremely convenient. Get one of these wireless chargers for your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro and just drop your phone onto the charging pad before going to bed and wake up with a full charge.

Cites Developer, Subcontractors For Exposing Workers To Dangerously Energized Power Lines | U.S. Department Of Labor – US Department Of Labor https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cites-developer-subcontractors-for-exposing-workers-to-dangerously-energized-power-lines-u-s-department-of-labor-us-department-of-labor/ PATERSON, NJ – The U.S. Department of Labor has issued citations to three New Jersey contractors who willfully exposed employees to potentially lethal dangers by allowing them to work near energized power lines at a Paterson worksite. On April 15, 2022, the local power utility alerted the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration about workers constructing a five-story apartment building too close to nearby power lines. After arriving at the site, OSHA inspectors found employees at risk of electrocution as they worked from a metal scaffold erected within five feet of high-voltage power lines. OSHA informed the project’s developer, Litana Development Inc. of Wayne and two subcontractors, Prata Construction LLC of Denville – a carpentry contractor – and Elite Brothers Construction LLC of Paterson – a stucco contractor – of the dangers and told them work must not continue. The agency subsequently posted an Imminent Danger Notice in English and Spanish to warn workers at the site about the extreme danger. On June 23, 2022, the department’s Regional Office of the Solicitor secured a temporary restraining order in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Newark to enforce OSHA’s Imminent Danger Notice. Attorneys for the department and Litana negotiated a consent injunction, entered on July 5, 2022, to resume work as long as workers remained 11 feet away from the power lines. On July 15, 2022, OSHA found that work had once again been performed dangerously close to the power lines. On August 2, 2022, the court entered a more restrictive Modified Consent Injunction which provided for third-party monitoring and physical barriers to ensure that workers would be kept safe. “Litana Development and its subcontractors willfully exposed workers to potentially deadly electrocution hazards by making them work too close to energized power lines,” said OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Mendelson in New York. “Despite repeatedly being told of the danger involved with this construction project, the companies ignored warnings and even a court order.” OSHA issued citations and penalties as follows: Employer Violations Proposed penalties Litana Development Inc. Three willful $435,081 Prata Construction LLC One willful, two serious $41,478 Elite Brothers Construction LLC One willful, three serious $41,478 “The U.S. Department of Labor will use all available enforcement tools to protect workers’ safety, and to ensure violations are remedied to prevent tragedies,” said Regional Solicitor of Labor Jeffrey S. Rogoff in New York. View the citations. The companies have 15 business days from receipt of its citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Alumnus, Founder Of Top-Notch Tech Company Shares Journey, Tips – FIU News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/alumnus-founder-of-top-notch-tech-company-shares-journey-tips-fiu-news/ When Jason Dettbarn completed his FIU bachelor’s degree in computer science in 2002, he worked in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences and co-created a campus wide platform called AIRS (automated IP registration system). The platform managed the connectivity of every computer and phone across all FIU campuses. The system was used for about 15 years and was the backbone for technology on campus.  After earning his master’s degree in computer science in 2013 and working at companies including Motorola, Dettbarn noticed a large gap in organizations being able to manage Apple devices (Apple Macs, iPhones and iPads). Addigy was born.  “No one was focusing on the apple ecosystem, so I quit my job, and with a second child on the way, it was the most perfect time to start a bootstrapped business,” Dettbarn says.   The humble beginnings of a great success  Seven years ago, when Dettbarn started Addigy, he built software and sold it, literally, out of his spare bedroom. He expanded to a small office, and for his first hires, he went back to his roots — he hired two graduates from  FIU’s Computer Science Department. Today, his company employs 80 staffers.  With a couple thousand customers globally, Dettbarn says Addigy is growing at a significant pace, and with that growth, he’s built a pipeline of fit talent to rise to the needs. Every one of the key roles at Addigy from product management to leadership and operations to security, is filled by an FIU graduate, he reveals. Many of these employees started as interns with the company.  “We are definitely the recipients of great talent from FIU,” affirms Dettbarn who highlights that there is no shortage of work for computer scientists.  Proud of his Panther network, Dettbarn came back to his alma mater several years ago when he landed a spot in a StartUP FIU entrepreneurship program, which helped him hone his business skills — skills he used to support a global expansion of his company.  If you’re looking for some insight about the tech scene from this wildly successful alumnus, you’re in luck. He shared advice for Panthers looking to break into the field. Tips for students The most important thing for those in computer engineering is to be assertive and have the fundamentals like Java, and try not to get into computer languages, because you can always learn computer languages, Dettbarn advises.   “But having full web stack experience is extremely important today because everything out there falls into those categories. There are graduates who don’t have those fundamentals and it’s a real disservice to their careers to not have that,” he offers.  Dettbarn notes that he looks for graduates who are “malleable,” who are willing to learn. Some companies may look for candidates who have years of experience in a computer programming language, but languages will change over time, he says.   “I look for employees who are hungry, humble and smart. We’re humble, that means the smartest people in the company will listen to their peers and are hungry for feedback. Those with egos don’t last in the company,” he says.  His best advice to those who are nearing graduation: Keep learning.  “Be willing and able to help and be coached and you will have success,” he says.

All Smiles As Billinge Beat Denton Town St Helens Star
All Smiles As Billinge Beat Denton Town St Helens Star
All Smiles As Billinge Beat Denton Town – St Helens Star https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/all-smiles-as-billinge-beat-denton-town-st-helens-star/ It was all smiles at Barrows Farm on Saturday as Billinge beat the League leaders Denton Town 1-0. The result was even sweeter for The Storks management, players and supporters as – while they were missing five regular players – those that donned the claret and blue were superb. They kept their shape, listened to their management and put in practice all the hard work they had done on the training pitch, keeping their shape, defending superbly and looking sharp every time they went forward. The sponsors’ man-of-the-match awards went to Oliver Filson and Jamie Whittaker – both normally midfielders – who were colossal in the centre of the defence, The visitors – who had only lost once going into the game – were quick out of the blocks with Elvis Omorogbe Ojo going close after just three minutes. Three minutes later there was a big blow for Billinge when striker Dylan Woodroffe had to hobble off: Due to roll on/roll off substitutions he was able to return but it would be another hour before the lightning quick striker could return from his knock. With changes in formation and personnel it took The Storks until the 24th minute to register their first effort when Lewis Dixon headed just wide. In the 38th minute the hosts were ahead. A flowing move saw Richie Allen play a lovely ball through to Jack Sutton whose powerful shot was pushed around the post by the Denton keeper Mark Dillnutt. Adam Caddick took the corner that viciously swerved towards the keeper who under pressure from Dixon took the cross but carried the ball into the net and at least two foot over the line. There were furious protests from the away side but the assistant referee was perfectly placed to (correctly) flag for the goal. The goal galvanised The Storks as they went in at half-time a goal ahead and seemingly in control. Again the visitors began a half on the front foot but Billinge weathered the initial storm, found their rhythm and began to dominate. On 53 minutes Whittaker hit a free-kick just over the bar, then moments later Dixon’s 25-yard shot went narrowly wide. The next 25 minutes were even with both sides being limited to long-range efforts before Billinge finished the game strongly. On 82 minutes Dilnutt saved with his feet from Kian Green and then from the rebound a Denton defender superbly blocked a Woodroffe shot that looked to all like a goal. In the 89th minute Woodroffe produced a run and put in a great cross that Allen just failed to get on the end of. Then in added time Dilnutt produced a stunning save to keep out Sutton’s curling long-range shot. However, in the end, the one goal was enough to give the villagers the three points. Naturally, manager Dave Morris was delighted with the result saying: “Individually every player was terrific but what pleased me even more was that they implemented all the work we have done in training and looked solid throughout. “Thankfully we have no game next week meaning we can get the lads – that were missing this week – back along with giving those that played with injuries time to recover. “We have a very young squad but the talent is there to be seen, the belief is there from everyone at the club and we look forward to the remainder of the season with optimism. Billinge are next in action on Saturday 29 October when they entertain Newton Athletic in the Cheshire Football League. Meanwhile, The Storks reward for beating FC Garston in the first round of the Liverpool County FA Cup is a home draw on 5 November against Old Xaverians. Old Xavs are having a superb season and are top of the Liverpool County Premier League Premier Division but manager Morris is eagerly looking forward to the game saying: “Bring it on; I can’t wait for the game and while it will be a huge task I have every confidence in my players to step up to the mark.”

These Are The 4 Countries In Europe That Americans Want To Visit The Most – Travel Off Path https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/these-are-the-4-countries-in-europe-that-americans-want-to-visit-the-most-travel-off-path/ Last Updated 6 mins ago Europe is hot right now, and the proof is in the numbers. After two years of being isolated from the rest of the world as it struggled to manage the health crisis, the continent is now fully open for travel, and the latest barometer for long-distance travel into Europe has just been published, revealing the 4 countries Americans want to visit the most. Throughout 2020 and for the better part of 2021, U.S. citizens were routinely barred from boarding flights to Europe unless they fit a select number of criteria, such as being European citizens themselves or presenting a vaccine certificate – the latter of which became a requirement after immunization became widespread. Luckily, all of these curbs have now been dropped, and Americans are taking journeys across the pond in droves once more. More specifically, to these destinations: What Does The New Long-Haul Travel Barometer Tell Us? As customary, the European Travel Commission (ECT), which regulates travel across the European Union and associated states, and Eurail BV, the company responsible for the popular European Train Pass, have jointly published this year’s third and final Long-Haul Travel Barometer – commonly shortened to LHTB. The latest LHTB, which comprises the months of September to December 2022, tracks travel trends across Europe for overseas visitors, particularly in seven of the largest markets: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Russia, and of course, the United States. Before we dive into figures, it’s important to note the ‘appetite’ for travel has markedly increased. Don’t Forget Travel Insurance For Your Next Trip! Travel Off Path Recommends These 5 Fast and Easy Travel Insurance Plans To Sign up For Now Plans starting at only $10 per week Currently, 56% of Americans coming to Europe expect to take multi-country trips, and thanks to the LHTB, we also know where they have set their hearts on: France Italy The United Kingdom Germany What Are The Priorities Of Americans When Traveling To Europe? The report has also verified that, when going abroad, 35% of Americans prioritize ‘high-quality tourism infrastructure,’ something the above countries excel at, while 33% and 31% value security and prices, respectively. Additionally, they are the ones most concerned with overtourism, with 23% of Americans considering it an important criterion. In other markets, an average of 16% of the public expressed concerns about overcrowding. Luckily for Americans, some of their favorite vacation destinations in Europe, including Italy and France, have begun limiting tourists due to the phenomenon, as more and more European cities urge Brussels to take action against unsustainable travel. Soon enough, when visiting Venice, Italy, tourists will be required to pre-arrange their visit and pay an entry fee. Meanwhile, neighboring France has already started to cap daily visitors in some of its most popular attractions, particularly along the French Riviera, a well-sought-after spot for those seeking a European summer experience. It’s a double-edged sword: a sizable percentage of Americans want overtourism tackled, but they could be affected themselves. No Travel Restrictions Visiting Europe This Winter On the bright side, all of the above destinations have no entry requirements in place, and Americans are again welcome irrespective of their health status. Whether they are flying to the mystical British isles or craving a romantic soiree in the City of Lights, they are exempt from presenting any vaccine passports at the border: No mandatory vaccination applies No pre-departure testing is needed No quarantine is required With the sole exception of Spain, which still requires unvaccinated Americans to present a negative test, the entirety of the European Union, and even European countries lying outside the group, like the United Kingdom and Türkiye (formerly Turkey), have fully removed their anti-tourism measures. This has helped instill a desire for international travel in the hearts of many lockdown-wary Americans, who are now the foreign nation with the third ‘greatest rise’ in the ‘sentiment index’ regarding travel plans to Europe. Essentially, the index reflects a ‘dominant sentiment’ shared by travelers in a common market, whether they’re ‘positive’ or ‘negative.’ How Do Americans Fare Compared To Other Big Markets? Any values above 100 indicate a ‘positive’ sentiment, and U.S. travelers have scored 126 points in spite of the aggravating economic crisis, corroborating previous findings that the average tourist has scrapped the budget. Brazil leads the list with 150 points, followed by Canada (136), two countries with currencies that have been historically weaker against the Euro. This proves the continent is more accessible now than ever, especially after the Euro hit parity with the U.S. dollar on numerous occasions. When it comes to travel reluctance amid the economic upheaval, Americans were the least sensitive about ‘money matters’: only 30% of them have hesitated to report their Europe trip will be going ahead this year. In general, Americans still fantasize about the Old World in spite of the cost of living crisis and the skyrocketing winter prices, compared to 55% of Brazilians and 31% of Canadians. Naturally, due to their priorities, Western Europe remains their go-to place. However, if you’re looking to escape the obvious and you’re feeling more adventurous, we strongly suggest you revisit our list of 7 underrated destinations in Europe for 2022. Unexplained Pain On Bone And Joints: Here Are Some Tips Bel Marra Health
Unexplained Pain On Bone And Joints: Here Are Some Tips – Bel Marra Health https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/unexplained-pain-on-bone-and-joints-here-are-some-tips-bel-marra-health/ Many Americans worry about bone health and joint health because they’re experiencing unexplained pain. First, make sure to see a doctor to rule out any potential health issues. Once you have ruled out any health concerns, there are several things you can do at home to help ease the pain. These tips include exercising, using ice or heat packs, and modifying your diet. If the pain persists, be sure to speak with your doctor about other treatment options. Your bones and joints go through a lot of wear and tear over the course of your life. From everyday movements to more strenuous activities, they are constantly being put to the test. Bone and joint pain are some of the most common reasons that people see a doctor. If your joints or bones are not feeling at an optimal level, it can affect everything from daily interactions with loved ones to your performance at work. These are all reasons why it’s important to know how to prevent, manage and take care of your bones and joints. Taking some simple steps can help reduce your risk of injury and keep your bones and joints healthy for years to come. One of the most important steps you can take to protect bones and joints is to stay active and exercise regularly. Physical activity can help to strengthen the muscles around the bones and joints and help them work better. Maintaining a healthy body weight can also go a long way to helping ease pain in joints and bones. Excess weight can put stress on the joints in the legs and feet, causing pain and discomfort, so losing a few extra pounds could help relieve these symptoms. Eating a healthy diet will not only help you maintain healthy body weight, but it can also help to ensure you are getting the correct vitamins, such as vitamin D, to keep bones strong. Posture and sleep position can also affect the pain associated with bones and joints. Some of the most comfortable positions may not always be the best and may even lead to long-term damage. Try always to be mindful of how the body is resting or positioned. While most people think bone and joint health is only important for seniors, it is actually an essential topic for any age. Implementing healthy lifestyles at an early age can help set up a foundation that will pay off in the long run. If you do experience an injury, it is vital to seek treatment from a qualified healthcare professional to help speed your recovery. Using hot and cold packs can also help with pain when healing. By taking care of your bones and joints, you can enjoy a better quality of life for years to come. Supporting Bones and Joints As outlined above, bone health is essential as you age. Bone Rescue can help to support the maintenance and development of bones thanks to its unique formula, including strontium. Chemically similar to calcium, strontium can provide great support for aging bones. Bone Rescue contains 680 mg of strontium along with additional ingredients to help keep bones strong and healthy. As you age, your joints also may require support to help them stay strong, flexible, and healthy. Healthy Joints contains multiple ingredients to help support and improve joint health. The primary ingredient in Health Joints is AprèsFlex®, an extract from Boswellia, which has been found in studies to provide rapid support for joint health and mobility. This unique formula also contains glucosamine and chondroitin, which contain compounds that are some of the building blocks of healthy joints.

Cheetos today unveiled Chesterville, a new, digital suburban neighborhood unlike any place real or virtual Cheetos fans have visited before. Riddled with all sorts of tricks and a chance to bring a flavor back to life in the real world, Chesterville is the first venture into virtual reality for both Cheetos and the iconic Frito-Lay ® snack portfolio. Set inside Meta Horizon Worlds, Chesterville is a mischief-maker’s dream: a place to embrace their inner Chester Cheetah, ditch the standard trick-or-treating and stir up some Halloween mischief. Players are challenged to complete tasks around Chesterville, with some mischievous tools, to help them earn points on their “mischief meter.” “As a culture-first brand committed to innovative consumer experiences, Cheetos is proud to lead Frito-Lay into the metaverse,” said Stacy Taffet , senior vice president of marketing for Frito-Lay. “This is a significant moment for both the brand and the portfolio as we broaden the ways we engage with fans, inviting them to experience Cheetos in an entirely new way. We can’t wait to welcome consumers into Chester’s virtual domain that brings his personality and Cheetos’ brand ethos to life.” The goal is to gain access to the spooky mansion that looms atop Cheetos Hill. Once inside the mansion, fans get to unlock the most intriguing part of Chesterville: a chance to vote for their favorite “ghost of Cheetos’ past” and help bring a no-longer-available flavor back to life in the real world. Fans will choose from one of three favorite flavors to resurrect for a limited run: Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Chipotle Ranch, Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Pepper Puffs, or Cheetos Nashville Hot snacks. Cheetos lovers outside the digital realm won’t be left out of the fun. Launching alongside Chesterville, Cheetos is calling on fans to share their flavor pick at CheetosChesterville.com beginning October 23, 2022 through November 2, 2022 . Cheetos will announce the winning flavor on social media before it reappears in the real world in early 2023, for a limited time to those who participate. Fans can also keep the fun going beyond Chesterville by enjoying the new Cheetos Mac ‘N Cheese Box of Bones, a frightfully cheesy twist on the brand’s regular mac that’s available for a limited time this fall. Visit CheetosMacNCheeseCostume.com between October 20, 2022 and October 24, 2022 to find out how Cheetos fans can enter for a chance to win a Box of Bones-inspired costume. HERE’S HOW TO PLAY IN CHESTERVILLE Once players enter Chesterville, they can choose to roam the spooky neighborhood or – if they dare – opt in to play a game, access the spooky mansion, and vote to bring back a flavor from the dead. Chesterville-goers will find many opportunities to stir up mischief and rack up points. They’ll have access to a stash of Cheetos Mischief Makers to help conquer challenges and raise their mischief meter score. Cheetos Mischief Makers include: Chester’s Wand to brand the neighborhood. Cheetle-fied Paper Towels to go TP’ing Chester-style. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to get a speed boost with the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos accelerator. Mac-O-Lanterns to smash and trap other players in cheesy blobs of new Cheetos Mac ‘N Cheese. Cheetos’ Mischief Makers aren’t the only way to cause mischief in Chesterville. Users can unlock Cheetle Codes from Cheetos’ social media to discover more ways to help them advance in the game. Meta Horizon Worlds is a free social experience that allows people to explore, play and connect in new and extraordinary ways with immersive VR. UK Law Commission To Review International Laws On Crypto To Consider Legal Reforms – Cointelegraph https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/uk-law-commission-to-review-international-laws-on-crypto-to-consider-legal-reforms-cointelegraph/ The legal review authority will work to compile law reform proposals for public consultation in the second half of 2023. 157 Total views 1 Total shares The Law Commission of England and Wales will set about reviewing private international legal challenges involving cryptocurrencies through a government-commissioned project. The review, launched on Oct. 18, will provide clarity on how international law approaches emerging technologies like cryptocurrencies, digital assets and electronic documentation. The law reform project, dubbed ‘Digital Assets: Which Law, Which Court?’, will outline current international legal rules and their application to digital contexts with the purview of making recommendations for legal reform to keep United Kingdom laws relevant. The project is sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and intends to develop reform proposals to be published for public consultation by the second half of 2023. The announcement highlighted that the proliferation of blockchain technology has generated a number of conflict of law issues which in turn has created legal uncertainty for users, organizations and governments. Related: 8 things to remember as the U.K. considers new crypto property laws A major hurdle is considering which courts have the power or jurisdiction to hear disputes and which laws should be applied. This is also due to the digital nature of cryptocurrencies and digital assets like nonfungible tokens (NFTs), which are intangible in nature, distributed and geographically difficult to define which further exacerbates legal considerations. Professor Sarah Green, Law Commissioner for Commercial and Common Law, highlighted the difficulty in dealing with legal disputes involving the burgeoning space in a statement shared with Cointelegraph: “With digital assets and other emerging technologies developing rapidly in recent years, the laws that support and govern them have struggled to keep pace. This has led to inconsistencies across jurisdictions, with uncertainty over which laws should be applied and which courts should rule on them.” The announcement also stressed its aim of supporting innovative digital technologies like cryptocurrencies in the UK as the country looks to establish itself as a hub for cryptocurrency adoption. The Law Commission has been involved in a number of law reform projects involving smart contracts, digital assets, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) electronic trade documents. Cointelegraph has reached out to the Law Commission to ascertain further details of the project

U.S. To Hold Offshore Wind Power Rights Sale Off California Coast In December Reuters
U.S. To Hold Offshore Wind Power Rights Sale Off California Coast In December – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-to-hold-offshore-wind-power-rights-sale-off-california-coast-in-december-reuters/ Oct 18 (Reuters) – President Joe Biden’s administration on Tuesday said it would hold the first ever sale of offshore wind development rights off the coast of California on Dec. 6, a big step forward in expanding the nascent U.S. industry to Pacific waters. The announcement is the latest in a government push to put wind turbines along U.S. coastlines, creating a new domestic jobs engine that is also designed to help wean the nation off fossil fuels and combat climate change. The sale, which the Department of Interior had said it planned to hold before the end of this year, will include five lease areas that amount to 373,268 acres off the Golden State’s northern and central coasts. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The large-scale projects that would be developed in the lease areas could one day generate more than 4.5 gigawatts of energy and power 1.5 million homes, the department said in a statement. These would also be the first commercial projects in U.S. waters to use floating turbines, an emerging technology. The depth of the outer continental shelf in the Pacific precludes the use of standard, fixed equipment. Previous federal offshore wind lease sales have all been for leases in the Atlantic Ocean. By 2035, Interior aims to have 15 gigawatts of floating offshore wind capacity. The goal is aligned with the administration’s other target for permitting 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030. “The demand and momentum to build a clean energy future is undeniable,” Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said in the department’s statement. She said the department is “moving forward at the pace and scale required to help achieve the President’s goals to make offshore wind energy, including floating offshore wind energy, a reality for the United States.” A formal sale notice will be published later this week, the department said, and will include details on the companies qualified to participate. He subsequently spent more than a month in hospital. In August, a wife confessed to police that she drowned her husband in a Texas creek. The Denton Police Department and Denton firefighters were dispatched to a reported drowning in the 1700 block of Spencer road. Police arrested Dora Alvarez Maldonado, 44, on suspicion of murder following an investigation. She reportedly initially told police that an unknown male was involved in the drowning of her husband. However, she later changed her story and told investigators that she had drowned her husband herself.

Despite Sanctions Kremlin Spokesmans Wife Vacationing In Israel The Jerusalem Post
Despite Sanctions, Kremlin Spokesman’s Wife Vacationing In Israel – The Jerusalem Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/despite-sanctions-kremlin-spokesmans-wife-vacationing-in-israel-the-jerusalem-post/ Russia is bombarding Ukraine and Vladimir Putin is continuing to push forward with his invasion of the country. Nevertheless, at a time when sanctions have been imposed on top Russian officials, the wife of one of them was reportedly spotted sunbathing in Tel Aviv in recent days.  Tatiana Navka, a former Olympic champion and the wife of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, has reportedly been on a private vacation in Israel over the last few days and was staying in Tel Aviv.  The news comes as Israel faces criticism for being too lenient on Russia despite the ongoing war crimes against Ukraine. Israel has also faced criticism for failing to supply weapons to Ukraine.  Navka, who is a 2006 Olympic figure skater champion and a two-time World champion, was staying at the Kempinski Hotel in Tel Aviv, Ynet reported based on information it said it received from the “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” association.  Tatiana Navka during her ice skating days with partner Roman Kostomarov in the Ice Dancing Free Dance event during the Figure Skating competition at the 2006 Winter Olympics, 20 February 2006 in Turin. (credit: YURI KADOBNOV/AFP via Getty Images) In March, Navka was included on a list of nationals sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury as part of the international sanctions against Russians over the war in Ukraine and due to her husband. Peskov had been blacklisted earlier because of his key role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In June, Navka was also sanctioned by the European Union. “Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war still encounter difficulties to enter Israel, but the wife of Putin’s spokesman is in Israel without any problem,” Anna Zarov, founder of the “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” association, told Ynet. Peskov has served as Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson since 2008. In this capacity, according to the US State Department, “he has played a key role in propaganda and disinformation campaigns to cover up the Kremlin’s links to the 2006 polonium poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Alexander Litvinenko, the 2018 Novichok poisoning of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skirpal and his daughter Yulia, and the 2020 Novichok poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov speaks during the annual end-of-year news conference of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia December 19, 2019. Picture taken December 19, 2019 (credit: SPUTNIK/ALEXEI NIKOLSKY/KREMLIN VIA REUTERS) The State Department said that serving Putin has been lucrative for Peskov, and despite being a civil servant for his entire career, he and his family are multimillionaires. According to the Department of the Treasury, members of Peskov’s family have a real estate empire worth more than $10 million, a number of luxury vehicles, and travel regularly on private aircraft and yachts. “While some say that it never pays to lie, in Peskov’s case it certainly seems like it did,” the US government said.
