MetaSports Metaverse Enters The Sports Industry GlobeNewswire
MetaSports Metaverse Enters The Sports Industry – GlobeNewswire https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/metasports-metaverse-enters-the-sports-industry-globenewswire/
Singapore, Oct. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MetaSports officially kicked off its ecological in October. MetaSports uses web3.0 technology to combine the global sports industry to create an exclusive NFT incubation and trading platform for sports stars. Total of 10,000 NFT are available on the Metasports ecological, and the value of the NFT is anchored to the future development value of the platform.
The sports industry has become an important economic worldwide and an important growth engine for many industries. With the deepening of pan-entertainment, IP building and commercialization, the need for digitalization of the sports industry is particularly important, and the metaverse is the best way to digitally realize the sports industry, not only to simulate many new scenarios but also to implant economic models. Unlike the traditional auction land metaverse project, the sports industry is also the best scenario for the metaverse to be implemented. the vision of MetaSports eco is to use the new scenario of the metaverse to change the monopoly of the sports industry operations and make it more open and inclusive. The design is intended to give users a better understanding and a stronger sense of participation, which will play an important role in providing a pavement for subsequent shareholdings in sports clubs, deepening the sports peripheral industry and operating fans DAO.
Data from recent years shows that with the change of times, the spending power has shifted to a younger user group. Failure to impress a younger audience is extremely detrimental to the development of sports IPs as a group. Online virtual spaces are therefore an important means of expanding the sports demographic and lowering the level of access to sporting events for young people. By playing and watching games in online virtual spaces, young people focus on experiencing the IP core of a sporting event, which in turn transforms them into fans of that event and eventually breaks the circle of the event IP.
As the metaverse market continues to expand, it has become a major trend for various industries to enter it and compete for the market, the sports industry is no exception. As sports IPs are in a bottleneck period, they need the metaverse to bring in young users. MetaSports has caught the opportunity to empower sports IPs on a reasonable, which is worth waiting for it.

Welcome to the Crypto Investor.
Last month, Do Kwon, the disgraced co-founder of Terraform Labs, resurfaced in the news with claims he was not a fugitive on the run. Without revealing his present location (which is of great interest to law enforcement authorities), the poster boy for the perils of algorithmic stablecoins took to Twitter to casually announce that he was, unsurprisingly, a law-abiding citizen fully cooperating with authorities – just with an Interpol red notice targeting him worldwide and South Korea initiating a request to cancel his passport.
Earlier this year, Kwon oversaw the spectacular collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin, which wiped out $60 billion from investors’ bank accounts. Since then, the developer has stunned Twitter audiences with his risible explanations of how he spends his time: “I go on walks and [to] malls,” Kwon claims. He’s also making light of the Interpol red notice, tweeting: “For something that has notice in the name, it sure gives no notice.”
The elusive founder might be able to joke on Twitter, but with South Korean prosecutors eager to use every tool at their disposal to bring about accountability and justice, Kwon is probably not going to be able to shake off legal action much longer.
In this newsletter, stay tuned for a round-up of this week’s crypto developments, including a look at what’s happening with central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) around the world and the metaverse. We also have an interview on crypto investing and how the war in Ukraine impacts crypto holdings with the Carlyle Group’s co-founder David Rubenstein, the billionaire author of the new book How to Invest: Masters on the Craft.
Let’s rewind this week in crypto news:
Alex Mashinsky, the CEO and founder of the bankrupt crypto lender Celsius, has stepped down amid legal action against the embattled crypto company (which still owes thousands of creditors). Other crypto firms, too, have seen their top people head for the exits, including the CEOs of crypto exchange Kraken, the crypto brokerage Genesis, and the president of digital assets exchange FTX US.
But despite a string of high-profile departures across the crypto industry, there’s one bright spot this crypto winter: the metaverse is still growing, and Chief Metaverse Officers are all the rage.
Although everyone’s hiring one to avoid missing out on the next big tech trend, some critics are asking: Is it all hype, just like the metaverse itself?
Disney doesn’t think so. It’s on the hunt for a new lawyer to address transactions related to the metaverse, NFTs, and blockchain tech. With a quarter of people predicted to spend at least an hour a day in the metaverse in the future, according to Gartner research, and McKinsey forecasting that metaverse-related spending might add up to $5 trillion a year in less than a decade, it’s no surprise why there is so much investment in the space.
Further afield, Australia is on track to finish its first central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot by mid-2023, which will reveal whether or not the country will pursue a digital currency known as an “eAUD.” Although nearly a quarter of Australians have adopted crypto, it’s not clear if the country’s government is equally enthusiastic about stablecoins and all things blockchain. Right now, the study’s goal is modest: to “explore innovative use cases and business models” for CBDCs.
Elsewhere, China first began allowing foreigners to use its own CBDC, the digital yuan, during the Olympic Games in February. They were able to buy everything from ice cream and popcorn to chewing gum at the self-service counter of Family Mart with the popular new currency.
The government says the digital yuan already has 260 million users, with 4.5 million merchants across China accepting it as a payment method. And the average transaction? Around $40. If that sounds paltry, Beijing says there have been roughly $12 billion worth of transactions since the digital yuan program was first unveiled in May 2020. No doubt popularity has been helped by integration with the popular messaging app WeChat, along with Alipay and JD.com.
U.S. observers are more hawkish about the e-CNY’s adoption, however, with the conservative think tank the Hoover Institution going so far to say that the digital yuan might even be used to “circumvent U.S. sanctions” and create “an alternative channel for cross-border transactions.”
In fact, many point to China’s dominance – and apparent success – in the CBDC space as reason enough for the U.S. to accelerate its own CBDC push, citing fears that the rival Chinese economy might displace the U.S. in global competitiveness. To that end, several people on the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services this month voted to move forward with an American digital dollar during a hearing, partly to counter China’s digital yuan.
The Ask: David Rubenstein, Co-Founder, the Carlyle Group
Crypto Investor recently talked to David Rubenstein, billionaire investor and co-founder of one of the world’s largest private equity firms, the Carlyle Group. Rubenstein is the author of the new book How to Invest: Masters on the Craft (Simon & Schuster), which came out this month and imparts time-tested advice for how to invest long-term in crypto and other assets.
Although the book has an entire section devoted to investing in crypto, Rubenstein warns readers to exercise caution when placing a bet on who might win in the nascent industry, as the task might be a fool’s errand: “Trying to pick the ultimate winner, or winners, is an extremely difficult task,” Rubenstein says.
The businessman once saw crypto as a risky bet, and subscribed to a belief that it lacked any underlying value. But today, Rubenstein believes that even the current bear market and war in Ukraine cannot stop the growth of crypto as an emerging industry. “Today, I believe crypto is more likely to be around longer than I initially believed,” he tells Crypto Investor. Take a read:
Sabrina Toppa, Crypto Investor: You’ve mentioned the war in Ukraine as one reason to stay optimistic about crypto. Tell me why that is.Rubenstein: My view is that many Russian oligarchs put their assets in very visible forms of wealth (homes, boats, art) which are easily confiscated by governments.. [But] crypto is less easily confiscated, as governments may not know what is owned or how to access it. Therefore, those who want to hedge their bets may put increasingly larger amounts of their net worth in crypto assets which, theoretically, cannot be as easily confiscated by governments.
We are currently in a period of economic turmoil for crypto. How do you diagnose the current moment, and what do you see as the next step for investors holding on to — or worrying about — their crypto assets?Rubenstein: The biggest mistake investors make is selling when asset prices are down and buying when asset prices are up. Right now, prices for cryptocurrencies are down compared to their heights, and it’s likely many investors are shedding those assets. History shows investors are better off buying more when asset prices are lower, or not selling when they think a market is near a bottom. It is better to hold on and benefit from a rebound that may be inevitable.
What do you think is important for investors to understand about the promise — and threat — of regulation?Rubenstein: Members of Congress are putting modest pressure on regulators right now. Supporters of the crypto industry are lobbying members of Congress to ease up on excessive regulation. Therefore, I do not expect a large number of new regulations, as there is not much pressure to regulate. Until there are large scandals, or massive multi-billion-dollar lawsuits brought by average investors, I do not believe Congress is likely to do anything that will upend the current regulatory apparatus.
This conversation has been condensed for length and clarity.

U.S. Judge Declines To Halt Booz Allen’s Purchase Of EverWatch – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-judge-declines-to-halt-booz-allens-purchase-of-everwatch-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) – A federal judge in Maryland ruled on Tuesday against the government’s effort to stop Booz Allen Hamilton’s (BAH.N) planned purchase of EverWatch Corp over competition concerns, according to a court filing.
The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit to stop the transaction in June. read more
The Justice Department had asked for a preliminary injunction to stop the deal, which Judge Catherine Blake refused to give. Her full opinion is under seal, according to the docket at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

The deal was announced in March. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Neither the Justice Department nor Booz Allen immediately responded to a request for comment. EverWatch provides software, AI, machine learning and other technological services to national security agencies.
The Justice Department had argued that the deal would threaten competition to provide the National Security Agency with operational modeling and simulation services. The deal, if allowed, would leave just one company to provide these services, the department said.
The loss is the fifth for the antitrust agencies in a relatively short period of time as the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission have filed more lawsuits to stop transactions that they argue would lead to higher prices. read more

Staircase Leverages Blockchain In New Servicing Transfer Technology National Mortgage News
Staircase Leverages Blockchain In New Servicing Transfer Technology – National Mortgage News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/staircase-leverages-blockchain-in-new-servicing-transfer-technology-national-mortgage-news/
Staircase, a fintech company that’s been compiling an expansive set of interconnected digital mortgage tools, introduced new blockchain-based technology for servicing transfers on Tuesday.
The latest automation is aimed at ensuring compliance sensitive information gets transferred correctly in an active mortgage servicing rights market. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has some specific requirements around this process, with a particular focus on ensuring it doesn’t interrupt modifications or other loss mitigation in progress.
“MSRs transfers are increasing in volume given the increased value of the servicing rights, so it’s just a natural market to spend a little more time in right now,” said Adam Kalamchi, co-founder and CEO of Staircase.
A growing number of fintechs have been looking to update automation used by servicing operations, which have become more prominent as rates have risen. Recently, for example, Valon teamed up with a quality control provider called ACES to address needs in the space; and distressed mortgage-technology provider Clarifire linked its platform to one IndiSoft has to loop counselors into the servicing process.
At the same time, blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency it was initially designed to record are increasingly being used within the mortgage and banking industries, though there’s been some regulatory caution around the latter. Startup Moon Mortgage, a lender that plans to use crypto to partially secure loans, recently raised $3.5 million in seed money, and Bank of New York Mellon on Tuesday officially launched digital-asset custody services.
“We use an immutable ledger so that you can actually say that we know every change in income, every single change in the loan balance, which adds a lot of richness around analytics and risks and auditability of how the loan file was created, so that’s one benefit of using blockchain. The other one is really secure data sharing,” Kalamchi said.
Staircase’s latest technology works with its Loanboarding platform, which uses machine learning to extract and classify data from loan documents and then applies quality control procedures to it.
Other automation Staircase has offered include technology used by private mortgage insurers to automate non-delegated underwriting of MI policies in conjunction with home loans. It also offers a tool for selective pre-approvals, and one that connects lenders to credit reporting vendors. It generally charges a $50 fee per loan, or less if the Loanboarding automation is used in conjunction with the new MSR transfer technology.
“We’ve already attacked loan boarding, which is a very complicated process to get right and at a low cost, the same for MI, and MSR transfer is just a natural extension of that,” Kalamchi said.
5Ws1H: What Its About: PC Gaming Allows Customization For Players Tahlequah Daily Press
5Ws+1H: What It’s About: PC Gaming Allows Customization For Players – Tahlequah Daily Press https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/5ws1h-what-its-about-pc-gaming-allows-customization-for-players-tahlequah-daily-press/
Depending on customizations, PC gaming can allow for a personalized and low-cost experience for users.
Jonathan Rader, owner and operator of Rader Computers, said PC gaming offers many different alternatives, while consoles can cause users to have less of a diverse, personalized experience.
“You kind of don’t have a lot of options,” said Rader. “You just buy the Playstation or the Xbox and it kind of just works, whereas with gaming computers, there’s a lot of different configuration you can get.”
Arrangements that can be made for PC computer gaming can be either low-cost or expensive. Depending on the experience a player wants, the cost of the machine and accessories can vary. One of the higher-cost experiences involves a higher resolution.
“Kind of the same with TVs, you can get gaming monitors that are 4K, and if you want to do that, you’re going to have to spend a lot of money on computer hardware, but if you spend the money, it’s going to be better than what a game console would be,” said Rader.
He said with PC computers, gamers can spend anywhere from $300 to $4,000. Rader has sold some refurbished computers for $370, which he calls entry-level computers, as they will allow 1080p games to run, rather than those with a 4K resolution. This can make users spend more money to access certain video games.
“If you’re playing games that don’t have high requirements, or that are a few years old, you can get by with a pretty inexpensive system. But if you want a lot of high graphics and play the most modern games, you may have to spend more money,” said Rader.
When it comes to graphics and other customizable portions of a computer, there is no right answer, as it all comes down to preference. For example, some gamers enjoy using mechanical keyboards and specialty mice, while others just use standard office computer accessories.
Rader said the price for graphics has fallen over the past few months, making it one of the best times to build a gaming computer.
One of the most important additions to a PC for gaming is the graphics card. Rader said if gamers seek a certain resolution, they will have to have a compatible graphics card.
When using a high-performance graphics card, Rader said they need to make sure they have monitors that support the same resolution.
“For instance, if you have a 1080p monitor [and you upgrade] your graphics card to the highest one you can get, it’s still only going to output only 1080p on your monitor,” said Rader. “So the big thing is you have to make sure your components match; if you have a nice monitor, you need a powerful computer to power it or vice versa.”

How A New Direct Flight Lands At Sea-Tac Seattle Met
How A New Direct Flight Lands At Sea-Tac – Seattle Met https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-a-new-direct-flight-lands-at-sea-tac-seattle-met/
Air Tahiti Nui’s first Seattle flight landed at Sea-Tac Airport on October 5.
On October 5, the arrivals screen at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport lit with a new name among all the usual Portlands and Chicago O’Hares: the city of Papeete. Air Tahiti Nui flight 52 landed mid-morning to great fanfare from the airline and airport, marking the first direct flight from Tahiti to Seattle. But why do we need air route to a far-off South Pacific island?
Bringing a new flight to Sea-Tac Airport can be a complicated process, sometimes taking years. Sea-Tac isn’t New York City or London, says airport media relations manager Perry Cooper, so it’s not so congested that airlines have to wrestle over “slots” in Sea-Tac’s schedule. By federal law, he notes, the Port of Seattle can’t deny an airline the chance to fly in and out of our runways, so once an airline wants to come in, they start working on finding them office space and leasing them ticket counters.
So it was really the small outfit—just four airplanes—of airline Air Tahiti Nui that made the call to link Seattle to the Southern Hemisphere. Mostly owned by the country of French Polynesia, it otherwise operates routes from Tahiti to Paris, Tokyo, and New Zealand. The airline’s vice president of the Americas, Caroline Borawski, noted that when they landed on Wednesday, few people in Seattle had ever seen their floral tail fin.
The capital of French Polynesia, Papeete, sits on the island of Tahiti, surrounded by more than a hundred atolls and islands in the South Pacific—but English speakers generally call the whole nation “Tahiti.” It calls to mind Mutiny on the Bounty and palm trees, or maybe just the honeymoon destination of Bora Bora. Seattleites like a good tropical breeze as much as anyone else, but why make such a cross-global link to the Pacific Northwest?
First of all, says Borawski, “It is not this far off destination.” Though south of the equator, the island nation shares a time zone with Hawai’i, making it a plausible alternative to that popular vacation spot. Eying the North American market, they saw Seattle as hungry for international travel after the pandemic, plus a code share partner in hometown Alaska Airlines.
Also, the flight goes both ways, says Borawski. They saw interest from Tahitians in skiing, and Seattle is the rare urban hub that has easy connections to ski spots. The airline will fly its signature Boeing Dreamliners in two round-trip flights per week.
Though Borawski has seen new routes take up to six or seven years to finalize, Air Tahiti Nui jumped on the Seattle idea very quickly—she estimates it was about a three-month process. Sea-Tac has bounced back from pandemic route closures with more direct flights than ever, launching Helsinki and Istanbul as well this year. The brand-new international arrivals center, costing nearly a billion dollars, has spruced our front door.
The new route launched with fares starting at $769 for the nine-and-a-half hour flight, a good three hours more than a hop to Honolulu. But as Seattle finally descends into winter, Tahiti’s year-round sun might make that direct trip not seem all that long at all.

Dr. Ashley Miller: Building Bone Strength Early Can Prevent Breaks Later In Life Berkshire Eagle
Dr. Ashley Miller: Building Bone Strength Early Can Prevent Breaks Later In Life – Berkshire Eagle https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/dr-ashley-miller-building-bone-strength-early-can-prevent-breaks-later-in-life-berkshire-eagle/
It’s a reality that cuts right to the bone. As we get older, our bones naturally become thinner, weaker and more susceptible to breaks.
Loss of bone mass happens to all of us over time. But more than half of all adults ages 50 and older in the U.S. — about 54 million people — are either living with or at increased risk of developing an advanced condition of declining bone mass called osteoporosis, which literally means “porous bone.”
The good news is that there are ways you can prevent osteoporosis or lessen its impact on your life by building your bone strength in your younger and middle-aged years.
Osteoporosis typically develops unnoticed, with no outward symptoms over many years. It’s often first discovered after a bone breaks. The most common fractures are in the hip, spine and wrist, usually the result of a fall. Hip fracture is the most serious consequence of osteoporosis. About half the people who break a hip will need to use walkers or canes for the rest of their lives.
Although it occurs in both sexes, women are four times more likely than men to develop osteoporosis. The hormonal changes that occur in women during menopause, particularly the decline in estrogen levels, can lead to a rapid decrease in bone density and therefore an increased susceptibility to breaks. After age 50, more than half of all women and about quarter of all men will have an osteoporosis-related fracture at some point during their remaining lives.
There are ways to test your bone density before problems arise. Your health care provider can order a bone mineral density test, also known as dual-energy X-ray (DEXA) scan. These determine how solid the bones are in your spine, hip and wrists.
All women over the age of 65 should have a DEXA scan (earlier if you have a family history or other risk factors). Men over age 70, or younger men with risk factors, should also consider getting a DEXA scan.
Treatments for established osteoporosis may include exercise, vitamin and mineral supplements. There are also several classes of medications used to treat osteoporosis. Your health care provider will work with you to find the best one for you.
There are actions you can take yourself to keep your bones healthy and slow down bone loss:
Eat a diet rich in calcium. We need calcium throughout our lives to keep our bones strong. Men and women ages 19 to 50 need at least 1,000 milligrams of calcium each day. After age 50, your body needs 1,200 to 1,500 milligrams.
Great sources of calcium are dairy products like yogurt and cheese, calcium-fortified orange juice and cereals, tofu and soy products, sardines, and green leafy vegetables like broccoli and collard greens. Calcium supplements can also help. Talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.
Get enough vitamin D. This is particularly challenging in places like New England with limited sun. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Men and women ages 19 to 70 need 600 international units (IUs) of vitamin D each day. After age 70, your body needs 800 IUs of vitamin D.
Follow a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a mindfully healthy style of life can reduce the degree of bone loss. Begin a regular exercise program.
Exercises that make your muscles work against gravity (such as walking, jogging, aerobics, and weightlifting) are best for strengthening bones. Do not drink too much alcohol. Do not have excessive amounts of caffeine. Don’t use tobacco at all. And finally, do everything you can to prevent falls inside and outside of your home.
Ashley Miller, MD., is an orthopedic surgeon with Berkshire Orthopaedic Associates, an affiliate of Berkshire Health Systems.

Zuckerberg Seeks Metaverse Cool With Microsoft Partnership Forbes

Meta Platforms, which is not exactly having fun in the metaverse, has decided to drag work into it. The company formerly known as Facebook is hooking up with Microsoft to integrate the Office 365 suite into its Quest VR headset.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the partnership at Meta’s annual Connect conference, where a year ago he changed his company’s name to reflect its commitment to the metaverse, a more immersive version of the internet that includes components of alternate and virtual reality.
“As in-person work ramps up, we want everyone to have the ability to feel like they’re present,” said Zuckerberg of the company’s shift to a metaverse workplace.
The companies will seek to integrate key Microsoft apps with Meta’s VR and metaverse technology. From 3D renditions of Microsoft Office 365 apps to immersive Teams meetings, Microsoft is also looking at bringing virtual reality (VR) to creative projects.

Meta will use its Horizon Workroom remote-collaboration offering as a “first step to building a virtual office in the metaverse,” Zuckerberg said.
Its first year as a metaverse-focused company has not been particularly fruitful for Meta, whose shares are down about 60% over the period, compared with an 19% drop for the broad S&P 500 index and a 39% decline for the barometer’s communications sector, of which it is the largest component. The company and Zuckerberg were widely criticized in August for an amateurish avatar of the CEO in front of depictions of the Eiffel Tower and the unfinished Sagrada Familia, meant to publicize the availability of Meta’s Horizon Worlds virtual-reality game in France and Spain.
Zuckerberg himself has lost more than half his fortune—a staggering $76.8 billion—since September 2021, dropping him from No. 3 on The Forbes 400 list of the U.S.’ wealthiest people to No. 11.
The company also announced a partnership with Accenture to launch “Quest for Business” next year, providing VR and metaverse bundles to businesses looking to expand their virtual work offerings. A separate partnership with Zoom will allow users to bring their newly designed avatars onto zoom calls. Meta and NBC Universal also announced a content deal for themed experiences in Horizon.
In addition to spending billions of dollars on the metaverse, Meta’s traditional businesses are suffering from competition and a weakening advertising outlook.
While Zuckerberg referred to the “openness” and “interoperability” of his company’s metaverse, he did not provide much explanation. The current version is not built on, nor does it use, blockchain technology.

Flagship Phones May Have Successfully Isolated African Consumers Business Insider Africa
Flagship Phones May Have Successfully Isolated African Consumers – Business Insider Africa https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/flagship-phones-may-have-successfully-isolated-african-consumers-business-insider-africa/
Phone companies today are beginning to lay heavy emphasis on luxury. It is no longer enough for a phone brand to innovate on the tech aspect, nowadays, these brands are pushing the boundary by dictating consumer experience.
In 2017, phone giant, Apple did something unprecedented by putting a $1000 price tag on a non-specialist phone. At the time there was a backlash as the general public still shared the view that $1000 is too much to pay for an iPhone.
However, true to form, Apple users overlooked the ridiculous price and purchased the product anyways. In that year, it sold 218 million units of iPhones.
This created a trend that has become commonplace with almost all premier smartphones today as $1000 is no longer too much money to spend on a phone.
In hindsight, these devices may be value for money, as you get the perks of numerous dedicated devices, crammed into one portable device.
For example, flagship phones, like the Google Pixel 6, Samsung 22 Ultra, and the iPhone 13 pros can produce pictures and videos that rival even professional cameras. You get the best browsing and social media experience on high-end phones, a responsive A. I built into it, media consumption which can imitate a home theater system save in scope, and much more.
And seeing as most people spend time with their phones, either for work or pleasure, it seems less ridiculous today to pay top dollar for a powerful handheld gadget.
With this in mind, some phones now go for up to $2 million and are being sold.
But, when does it all become too much? When does a phone become too luxurious for just a phone? When an entire market is isolated.
In the past 5 years alone, the average African has been relegated to purchasing low-end phones. See the data here.
Nowadays, only those willing to break the bank or those with a substantial amount of cash flow can buy a high-end flagship phone. The African tech market is dominated by budget phones, with low-end specs for the time being.
The latest trend with these high-end phones is how you have to purchase a phone and its accessories separately. It used to be that you get a phone with a charger, earpiece, and other cool accessories, depending on the brand as some are more generous than others.
However, today, you have to buy the phone and the charger separately, making phones that come with their accessory seem like a privilege to a population battling poverty. And with the push for MagSafe devices, no doubt these brands will become too much of a luxury good for Africans to have access to.
There is a reason Apple has refused to open Apple stores in most parts of Africa, despite claiming that they make phones for everyone, which is simply its low market share in the continent.

Currencies Replace Crypto At Forefront Of Market Trading Chaos HT Tech
Currencies Replace Crypto At Forefront Of Market Trading Chaos – HT Tech https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/currencies-replace-crypto-at-forefront-of-market-trading-chaos-ht-tech/
The atmosphere at a conference was markedly different from the previous few years: there was a buzz.
The atmosphere at a conference of currency market professionals was markedly different from the previous few years: there was a buzz.
Senior executives from banks and brokers were feeling optimistic about the prospects of foreign-exchange trading at the recent gathering in Amsterdam. They’ve spent years eyeing the world of crypto with envy, as digital assets thrived in a highly volatile market, while traditional money remained dull.
Currencies are now at the forefront of the action. Rapidly climbing interest-rate risks around the world and increased geopolitical tensions are fueling a 30% surge in trading and historic moves, reviving an industry that spent the past decade struggling with stagnant volumes.
“FX as an asset class is really back this year,” said Russell LaScala, the global head of FX at Deutsche Bank AG, the world’s largest currency player by market share. “I think last year a lot of macro hedge funds were trading different assets, including crypto.”
The notoriously wild swings in crypto markets have subsided this year, with the Bitcoin Volatility Index shedding more than 50% since a peak in May. By contrast, both Deutsche Bank’s and JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s gauges of currency volatility are at the highest in a decade apart from a spike when the pandemic struck.
And the moves have been shocking: in Japan, authorities sold dollars to prop up the yen for the first time since 1998, while the euro sank below parity with the dollar to a 20-year low. In London, the world’s top currency trading hub, the pound slid to an all-time low.
“Volatility is a bit like a London bus: there are either none to be found for love or money, or three arrive at the same time,” said Kit Juckes, global head of currency strategy at Societe Generale SA.
FX Traders Relish Volatile Markets After Years in the Doldrums
The action has drawn in speculative players such as macro hedge funds and grabbed the attention of real-money investors, whose portfolio valuations are now subject to sudden swings. The war in Ukraine and aggressive Fed rate hikes heightened the moves, drawing money to the dollar as a haven and influencing other markets from Bitcoin to stocks.
“FX has become a much bigger focus, even for investors who are not typically focused on FX for two main reasons: the dollar has been the one remaining effective hedge across markets and the dollar’s appreciation has been very tradable for speculative investors,” said Ebrahim Rahbari, the global head of foreign-exchange analysis and content at Citigroup Inc.
At TradeTechFX, the Amsterdam conference, executives packed sessions with titles such as “How can you ready your FX desk for heightened volatility,” before taking to the floor at afterparties fueled by expresso martinis.
Crypto players, following debates on whether progress in building an institutional ecosystem has been “hindered by the ‘winter,’” looked grim, muttering in corners. Bitcoin has been stagnant at around $20,000 for months in a collapse from last year’s peak near $70,000.
Crypto Lending Now Pays Less Than Safest US Government Debt
“Crypto seemed to be having all the fun until the central banks started breaking things,” said Tanvir Sandhu, chief global derivatives strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence. “It took inflation to blast the secular decline in currency volatility as central banks unleashed years of suppression. Volatility creates opportunity and it’s a trader’s best friend.”
In fact, cryptocurrencies command only a fraction of volumes of foreign exchange markets, for all the attention they generate. Trades of fiat currencies clock in at around $6.6 trillion each day, according to the Bank for International Settlements. That compares with just under $1 trillion for Bitcoin and other tokens, according to data website CoinMarketcap.
It’s likely that markets are now migrating to a higher range for interest rates and bond yields and that will be accompanied by higher currency volatility on average, Societe Generale’s Juckes said.
This is boon to the firms that dominate the space. Trading activity on major exchanges has soared compared with last year, while profits at the largest currency trading banks stand at multi-year highs.
EBS Market, a platform owned by CME Group Inc., posted a 30% increase in spot trading in September compared with a year ago, with futures trading at a record high. Spot volumes hit $76 billion, the highest since the pandemic struck in March 2020. Other large platforms have also enjoyed a boost, with Euronext FX seeing a 20% increase in August, according to website LiquidityFinder.
Good Business
It’s not all been plain sailing. At times liquidity has still been challenging, said Citigroup’s Rahbari.
“There have been occasions when large asset price movements were in fact observed with relatively little flow, similar to patterns in other markets this year,” he said.
Overall though, the jump in volatility has benefited Deutsche Bank, UBS Group AG and JPMorgan, the top three banks by market share. They control 30% of the market, according to an annual survey of currency trading banks by Euromoney.
JPMorgan clocked up a 15% increase in its fixed-income markets business in the second quarter. UBS highlighted foreign exchange as a driver of revenues that climbed 19% at its global markets division. Meanwhile, fixed income and currencies at Deutsche Bank grew 32%, the best second quarter in a decade.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time and when you get markets that are volatile, but not disorderly, client activity increases and that’s usually good for the business,” LaScala said.
US Department Of Labor Recovers $157K In Back Wages For 65 Workers Of North Carolina Restaurant That Kept Their Tips Illegally US Department Of Labor
US Department Of Labor Recovers $157K In Back Wages For 65 Workers Of North Carolina Restaurant That Kept Their Tips Illegally – US Department Of Labor https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/us-department-of-labor-recovers-157k-in-back-wages-for-65-workers-of-north-carolina-restaurant-that-kept-their-tips-illegally-us-department-of-labor/
Mugen Inc. also allowed 15-year-old employees to work for longer periods than law permits
GOLDSBORO, NC – A federal investigation has recovered $157,287 in back wages for 65 workers after finding that a Goldsboro-based restaurant’s pay practices denied the workers their full wages by keeping portions of their earned tips.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division determined that Mugen Inc. – operating as Jay’s Kitchen – kept a percentage of their employees’ tips, a minimum wage violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. By doing so, the employer lost their right to claim a tip credit and owed the workers the difference between their paid cash wage and the federal minimum wage. Investigators also found Mugen Inc. failed to keep an accurate record of hours worked, provide the dates of birth for employees under the age of 19 and keep addresses for several employees, all FLSA recordkeeping violations.
Investigators also found that Mugen Inc. allowed three, 15-year-old employees to work outside of permitted hours while school is in session, a violation of federal child labor laws. The employees worked more than 3 hours on a school day, more than 18 hours in a school week and past 7 p.m. while school was in session. The division assessed a $1,915 civil money penalty to address the violation.
“Tipped workers in the food services industry rely on their hard-earned tips to make ends meet. Tips are the property of the worker and, under no circumstances, may employers keep any part of their employees’ tips,” explained Wage and Hour Division District Director Richard Blaylock in Raleigh, North Carolina.
“Our investigation also found Mugen Inc. employed minor-aged workers illegally. The Wage and Hour Division assessed more than $1 million in penalties and identified child labor violations in nearly 200 food service industry investigations in the last two fiscal years,” Blaylock added. “We are determined to ensure the well-being and safety of young workers is not compromised, and that employers understand there can be costly consequences for failing to comply with federal child labor laws.”
In fiscal year 2021, the Wage and Hour Division recovered more than $34.7 million for more than 29,000 workers in the food service industry. In 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports near record numbers of job openings and workers in the accommodations and food services industry quitting their jobs.
“Employers who do not respect their workers’ rights will likely struggle to retain and recruit the people they need to remain competitive, as workers look for opportunities with employers that do,” said Blaylock.
In addition to Jay’s Kitchen, Mugen Inc. also owns and operates Jay’s Sushi & Burger Bar in Goldsboro, Ninja Hibachi Express in Goldsboro and Greenville, Ninja Grill in Goldsboro, Ninja Hibachi & Burger in Mount Olive, and Jay’s 108 in Kinston.

Workers can call the Wage and Hour Division confidentially with questions – regardless of their immigration status – and the department can speak with callers in more than 200 languages.

This Authentic Riviera Maya Destination Wants You To Visit Instead Of Going To Cancun This Year – Travel Off Path https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/this-authentic-riviera-maya-destination-wants-you-to-visit-instead-of-going-to-cancun-this-year-travel-off-path/
Last Updated 3 mins ago
Cancun may be known the world over for the luxuriousness of its resorts and the azure nature of its waters, and despite being truly stunning, we know it is not necessarily representative of the Riviera Maya as a whole. Other smaller, competing towns in the region are well aware of this, too, with one in particular going as far as encouraging tourists to skip Cancun altogether and vacation there instead.
Mexico is incredibly diverse and multicultural, and in recent months we have done our best to introduce you to other parts of the country you might not be entirely familiar with, such as the Pueblos Magicos or the colonial cities route. With that, we have been noticing a new trend emerging: visitors are now craving more ‘authentic’ Mexican experiences.
Luckily, this hidden gem of the Mexican Caribbean seems to have understood the assignment:
What Makes Puerto Morelos Special Compared to Cancun?
Coming out ahead of other Riviera Maya destinations, the town of Puerto Morelos has quietly re-branded itself as an ‘authentic’ destination in an area that has long been plagued by over-development. Sandwiched between the almighty Cancun and Playa del Carmen, it is located at the heart of Mexico’s most famous resort strip, but it has a special something.
Being home to the coastal Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, it features numerous dive and swimming sites, as well as hotspots for sea life viewing. Inland, its largely-unheard of cenotes rival those of Tulum, which have recently been flagged as unsafe for swimming, while the town itself has preserved a traditional fishing village aesthetic.
Here, tourists will not find wide pedestrianized boulevards overtaken by heavy traffic, the same that posed a problem for many travelers traveling to and out of Cancun this year, nor Tulum’s crazy beach party scene. Puerto Morelos is much more quaint and lacks the others’ hustle and bustle, and the municipality authorities have finally realized this is not a weakness: it’s a powerful asset.
A Town Of Endearing Tranquility
Presenting the town to travel agencies, tourist officials have just unveiled Puerto Morelo’s new official website, explicitly highlighting its ‘authenticity’ compared to its strongest rival, Cancun. They also state the town has an ‘endearing tranquility’, a quality that will certainly help more reserved travelers entertain the idea of visiting.
Moreover, Puerto Morelos is noted for having ‘talcum-powder sand and turquoise waters‘, coupled with a ‘distinct Bohemian ambiance‘ and flavorful local cuisine. Even better: it is a short 17-minute drive from Cancun Airport, Mexico’s number one international airport for U.S. travelers, making it easy enough to get to all year round.
We have noted an increase in cultural tourism in Mexico lately, powered by the nation’s Mayan and Spanish-era heritage sites, and, as The Cancun Sun points out, Puerto Morelos is an old settlement linked to both Caribbean and Transatlantic trade, making it an unmissable gem for those keen on understanding more about Mexico’s History.
What Are Some Of The Town’s Top-Rated Attractions?
Of course, History is not the only aspect that will draw visitors to this little slice of heaven. The 9,188-people-strong town has plenty of small seaside hotels, offering guests a more relaxing and customized experience, narrow streets lined with shops where locally handcrafted items are sold, and friendly locals.
Other attractions include:
A flea market
A farmer’s market (on certain dates)
A leaning lighthouse
A dolphin sanctuary and training center (Delphinus Puerto Morelos)
A public beach within walking distance of the town center
At the same time, it is popular among adventure seekers, with The Cancun Sun reporting ‘many fishing and boating opportunities’, including underwater excursions in one of the most beautiful sections of the Great West Atlantic Reef Belt. Foodies will love it just as much, especially if they’re seafood enthusiasts.
Even if you end up deciding not to stay in Puerto Morelos in the end, the municipality makes for a fine day trip from Cancun’s Hotel Zone or Tulum, and an escape from the opulence of five-star all-inclusives, even if momentarily. Once the new Tren Maya launches, Puerto Morelos will become even more accessible as one of the train’s stops.

How Special Olympics Athlete Kayla’s Health Journey Leads To An Audience With White House Lawmakers – FOX 17 West Michigan News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-special-olympics-athlete-kaylas-health-journey-leads-to-an-audience-with-white-house-lawmakers-fox-17-west-michigan-news/
Special Olympics is an inclusive movement and an athletic organization, but it’s also a conduit for healthy living, something everyone can benefit from. Special Olympics Athlete Kayla Cornell serves as a health messenger for the organization and was recently chosen to attend the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health to advocate.
The last time the President of the United States convened a conference on this topic was more than 50 years ago when Special Olympics was newly founded.
Cornell was one of 500 attendees at the conference in our nation’s capital, hand-picked by Special Olympics International to represent those individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Cornell, alongside Special Olympics Minnesota Health Messenger Kayte Barton, met in small groups with members of Congress, federal civil servants, representatives of the private sector, and leading civil society organizations.
Now a nine-sport Special Olympics Michigan athlete, Cornell was first introduced to Special Olympics on the ski slopes in seventh grade. She began sharing her own health message in 2019 when she became a certified international Health Messenger for Special Olympics.
Educating herself, Cornell has lost more than 40-pounds and learned the physical and emotional value behind a balanced diet. Currently, Cornell teaches a cooking class for Special Olympics Michigan; a seven-week class that can be done online or in person. She’s also enrolled in college to become a dietician.
“You can go to doctors’ offices or talk to health professionals and talk to them about how they can understand our disabilities more, and how they can work with us,” Cornell explained. “Some athletes lead exercises at practices, I have my cooking class, and there are multiple things you can do to get involved as a Health Messenger. That’s how I found my passion and what I love to do. I wouldn’t be where I am if I wasn’t selected (in the Healthy Messenger program).”
Cornell plans to continue conversations with Congress and Michigan lawmakers in an effort to educate the need for better health services.

Facebook Employees Seem Completely Confused By The Metaverse Futurism
Facebook Employees Seem Completely Confused By The Metaverse – Futurism https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/facebook-employees-seem-completely-confused-by-the-metaverse-futurism/
It’s a big week for Facebook-turned-Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
After a few rough quarters, a dismal public reaction to a glimpse at the founder’s Horizon Worlds metaverse, and an allegedly imminent round of mass internal layoffs, the company is finally bearing down on the release of its Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro VR and AR headsets. This stands to be a make-or-break moment for Zuck, who’s hinged his company’s legacy on his AR-dependent metaverse vision.
And by all accounts — not to mention niche sport-related promos — Facebook’s katana-wielding overlord is thrilled about this product release. But according to The New York Times, there’s one very telling group that may not be: the metamates themselves.
Corroborating a leak last week, the NYT reported that Meta has had a difficult time getting its employees on its Horizon Worlds platform. Some company staffers reportedly had to scramble to buy Oculus headsets — which, you know, you might expect them to have already owned — in response to new mandates that weekly meetings be held in the metaverse, and execs have even turned to threats to actively monitor their game play. Sounds, uh, fun.
“Everyone in this organization should make it their mission to fall in love with Horizon Worlds,” read a September commandment, originally obtained by The Verge, from metaverse VP Vishal Shah. “Get in there. Organize times to do it with your colleagues or friends, in both internal builds but also the public build so you can interact with our community.”
Shah has a point. It’s difficult to drum up public excitement about a piece tech if those building it apparently don’t care enough to even own the headset you need to use it.
But the issue, it seems, isn’t just that the employees don’t like Zuck’s metaverse. In an anonymous NYT survey of 1,000 Meta employees, conducted on the popular Silicon Valley app Blind, only 58 percent said that they even understand the strategy he’s taking to get there — a sure recipe for chaos, confusion, and general unhappiness.
Even more damningly, some employees have reportedly taken to labelling metaverse projects with the acronym MMH — which stands for Make Mark Happy (ouch) — while Oculus’ former technology chief, who still works as a Meta advisor, expressed during an August podcast interview that the many billions of dollars poured into the project made him “sick to [his] stomach.” And back in August, the head of the metaverse division resigned.
Zuck, however, appears hellbent on bringing his “North Star” to fruition — whether his metamates get it or not.
“Being a cynic about new and innovative technology is easy,” A Meta spokesperson told the NYT. “Actually building it is a lot harder — but that’s what we’re doing because we believe the metaverse is the future of computing.”

Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, the outspoken CEO of major exchange Binance, has announced his company is planning to allocate more than $1 billion to acquisitions and investments in 2022. Binance’s top project in this field is providing $500 million in financing for Elon Musk’s planned takeover of the social media platform Twitter.
Earlier this year, a Delaware judge ruled that Musk and Twitter have until October 28 to close the deal, with Zhao’s statement indicating Binance could play a role in the potential transaction.
To date, the exchange has earmarked $325 million for a total of 67 projects this year, compared with $140 million committed in 2021, Bloomberg reported. This confirms Binance’s determination to continue its expansion drive in 2022 despite the ongoing crypto market downturn.
“We did look at a lot of lenders in recent months because that’s where all the issues are,” Zhao said, adding that he was interested in “real products that people use”.
The CEO said that Binance has remained profitable in spite of the latest crypto market woes.
“NFTs are a lot more than selling pictures of monkeys,” Zhao said, adding that he believes “this technology will stay” as it could be used for a variety of purposes, such as issuing university degrees and tickets.
The entrepreneur also said that the coming months are likely to pave the way for more consolidation within the crypto industry, as there is “a lot of opportunity” for mergers and acquisitions in the current market.
Other major plans by Binance include its planned $200 million strategic investment in the media company Forbes. The exchange is also interested in becoming an investor in gaming companies, according to Zhao.

U.S. Expediting Shipment Of NASAMS Air Defenses To Ukraine -White House – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-expediting-shipment-of-nasams-air-defenses-to-ukraine-white-house-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) – The United States is speeding up the shipment of sophisticated NASAMS air defenses to Ukraine, White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday, after a devastating missile barrage from Russia.
U.S. President Joe Biden pledged to Ukraine President Volodomyr Zelenskiy in a phone call on Monday to support the country’s air defenses as residents took cover from strikes in Kyiv.
The United States has approved sending Ukraine a total of eight National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) so far, with two expected to be delivered soon and six more sent over a longer time frame.
“We think that we’re on track to get those first two over there in the very near future,” Kirby said during a briefing for reporters. “We are certainly interested in expediting the delivery of NASAMS to Ukraine as soon as we can.”
The United States has provided more than $16.8 billion worth of security assistance since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 and imposed a wide-ranging array of economic sanctions on Moscow over its actions in Ukraine.

10 Rock Artists That Named One Of Their Songs After A Texas City Klaq.com
10 Rock Artists That Named One Of Their Songs After A Texas City – Klaq.com https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/10-rock-artists-that-named-one-of-their-songs-after-a-texas-city-klaq-com/
Texas is found in many parts of music, from being mentioned in the lyrics or sometimes in the title of the songs. Texas cities are also mentioned in song titles too; regardless of the genre. For this list we’re looking at just rock artists who mentioned a Texas city in the title.
(So no country artists like George Strait, Marty Robbins or Waylon Jennings)
ZZ Top: Let’s start with an obvious choice. The band that defines Texas music, of course would have Texas cities name dropped in the titles. They have at least 2: “Heaven, Hell or Houston“
But of course the one that we ALL know is “La Grange“
The Doobie Brothers: Another classic rock band, The Doobie Brothers had a huge hit of their 3rd album The Captain And Me named after a small Texas town, just ten miles from San Antonio Texas. The story in the song might be fictional, but the town is very real. Of course I’m talkin’ about the…
Taking Back Sunday: Back in 2011, when Taking Back Sunday was taking a retreat to Sonic Ranch in Tornillo (they definitely weren’t the only ones to record in Sonic Ranch), they would write songs for their “Taking Back Sunday” album. They had such a positive experience, they named one of the songs after El Paso called…. well… “El Paso“.
Butthole Surfers: The last album Butthole Surfers would record was 2001’s Weird Revolution. A few of the songs would appear in movies; “They Came In” would be heard on Mission: Impossible 2 & “The Shame of Life” on the trailer for Phone Booth. But one song on the album would contain Houston in the title: Dracula From Houston. The song is bonkers but it fits for their style.
The Reverend Horton Heat: The band that defines Texas psychobilly, would also have a song that contains Houston in the title. From The Full-Custom Gospel Sounds of the Reverend Horton Heat, we have the very fast paced “Living On The Edge (Of Houston)“.
Iggy Pop: The Godfather of Punk would have many crazy nights in Houston. So he decided to name a song after Houston on his 5th album, Party called “Houston is Hot Tonight“. The album wasn’t the most well-received by critics, but at least Iggy was nice to show his appreciation to saying how much he loved partying up in Houston.
Bob Dylan: We’ve heard of songs that talk about one man fighting another for a woman; well that’s the story behind “Brownsville Girl” off Bobby’s 1986 Knocked Out Loaded album. While the album was mostly panned by critics, they all seem to agree that “Brownsville Girl” was the gem off the album. Sitting at 11 minutes, it’s also one of Bob’s longer songs too.
Saxon: The British heavy metal band wrote a song all about Dallas on their 3rd album, 1980’s Strong Arm of the Law. “Dallas 1 PM” is pretty significant in that it’s all about the 1967 assassination of JFK. To this day, it’s a still a song they play occasionally during live shows.
R.E.M.: The 90’s alternative band known for “Losing My Religion“, “It’s The End of the World As We Know It“, actually wrote two songs named after Texas cities: “Texarkana“, from the same album WITH Losing My Religion, Out of Time
& “Houston” from their 2008 album Accelerate.
Steely Dan: One of the EARLIEST songs in Steely Dan’s catalog, “Dallas” was recorded during the sessions for their debut album Can’t Buy A Thrill. It was also sung by their drummer Jim Hodder. It never appeared on an album outside of the Japanese release of Steely Dan. Luckily it exists on YouTube for our listening pleasure.
Honorable Mentions:
Gary Clark Jr “Travis County“: I put this under honorable mention because, even though Gary grew up in Travis County (Austin), it’s a COUNTY, not a city. But the song was so good NOT to include here so here it is.
Yes “Abilene“: While the name is indeed named after the Texas city, it’s hard to tell whether or not the song was inspired BY the city or not. However I don’t get to talk about Yes so does it deserve to be included here as an honorable mention?…..Yes.
Tragic Landing: Yes they’re not as popular as any of the other names on this list but this is easily one of the best “El Paso” songs out there by El Paso’s own Tragic Landing.

15 Spring Break Ideas For Families – TODAY https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/15-spring-break-ideas-for-families-today/
Trying to make a plan for spring break with the entire family? You aren’t alone. Spring break travel is one of the most popular times for families to get away, according to travel agents.
The best way to guarantee options is by planning in advance.
“It is a busy time to travel, so if you value choices, plan in the fall,” Kiki Humes, a family travel advisor with Ciao Bambino told TODAY Parents. “Last-minute planners may be locked out of the best family accommodations or the best located accommodations.”
Nicole Gerber, SmartFlyer travel advisor, agreed.
“The school year is coming to an end, it’s still on the cooler side temperature wise in most parts of the U.S., and many families haven’t been away in a few months and are itching for a trip before potential summer plans,” Gerber said.
Before planning a spring break trip, decide what is important for your family.
“I think it is important (for families) to decide if they want to stay domestic or go international,” Gerber said.
She also recommended parents ask themselves:
How much do we want to spend?
Are our passports up to date?
What type of trip are we looking for — sightseeing, history and culture? Adventure? Or relaxing beach and pool time?
Amy Annis, a Ciao Bambino family travel advisor, added that a smart way to navigate a busy travel season is to think outside the box.
“As spring break is a busy time to travel, consider something off the beaten path,” Annis said.

JACKSON, MICH. — Dawn Foods has made several changes to its executive leadership team.
Jennifer Cloherty has joined the company as chief financial officer. She succeeds Karl Brown, who has moved into an advisory role for Dawn.
Ms. Cloherty most recently was CFO at Kellogg North America, where she was also the executive sponsor for the Kellogg African American Resource Group and the Kellogg Veterans Group. Prior to Kellogg, she held financial leadership roles with Aptiv, Owens Corning, and GE. She spent 19 years with GE and held numerous operational and commercial finance roles across the United States and Europe.
“Jennifer is an exceptional financial leader with great long-term vision, and I am proud to have her join the Dawn leadership team,” said Carrie Jones-Barber, chief executive officer of Dawn. “I am confident she will continue to build and develop the wonderful talent we have within our financial organization and partner with our leaders to drive the strategic, operational, and financial performance of our global business.”
Mr. Brown, who joined Dawn in 2000, has held a variety of financial and commercial leadership roles and was heavily involved in the development and significant growth of Dawn’s international business. For the past five years, he also has led the global IT team. He will work with Ms. Cloherty over the next few months as she transitions into her new role.
“I thank Karl for his incredible leadership, counsel and friendship over the years and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role with Dawn,” Ms. Jones-Barber said.
Dawn also has expanded the responsibilities of the company’s current chief digital officer, Bob Howland. Mr. Howland now will also lead the development and implementation of Dawn’s long-term digital and information technology strategy to ensure Dawn continues to provide best-in-class solutions for its teams and customers. He has been with Dawn since 2019. Earlier he was executive vice president and general manager of Blueport Commerce. He also has worked at Spencer Partners, Affiliated Distributors, Radial Inc., Vanguard, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, General Electric and American Express.
“Bob has done a tremendous job transforming our business through best-in-class digital solutions that benefit both our team members and our customers,” Ms. Jones-Barber said. “Our digital and IT teams already work closely together on technology infrastructure and cyber security projects, which are critical to help protect our systems and data. Bringing together these two organizations under Bob’s leadership further strengthens our team and aligns with our strategic ambitions for the business.”
