Museum At Werleys Corner Hotel Is Preserving The History Of Northwest Lehigh The Morning Call
Museum At Werleys Corner Hotel Is Preserving The History Of Northwest Lehigh – The Morning Call https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/museum-at-werleys-corner-hotel-is-preserving-the-history-of-northwest-lehigh-the-morning-call/
The latest project to preserve the rich history of northwest Lehigh County started with Denton Herber.
Herber, from Lowhill Township, was killed during World War II when his ship was struck by a torpedo.
His war medals, including his Purple Heart, a photo and other items were donated recently to the Weisenberg/Lowhill Township Historical Society, a hidden gem of the county that’s located in the old Werleys Corner Hotel in Weisenberg Township.
The society saw this as an opportunity to come up with a way to celebrate the veterans from the community.
As she cataloged the items, society member Lucille Heintzelman suggested they be framed so they would stay together and be easily displayed. Board member Helen Donmoyer took on that task.
The items, enough to fill three frames, were the start of the historical society’s latest project, a Veterans Appreciation Wall.
About three months later, the wall has more than 50 photos of deceased veterans, most of them from the Weisenberg-Lowhill area. More photos are waiting to be framed and the society is collecting others.
“The last two events we held, it was very popular,” Donmoyer told me Monday when I stopped by to check out the wall and museum.
The society started by contacting members to ask if they had photos they would like to have displayed. The project took off quickly.
“You would call one person and they would give you three or four names,” President Gloria Zimmerman said.
Society members scoured obituaries and reached out to families that they knew had members in the service.
“It’s a small community and a lot of us knew them,” Zimmerman said.
As photos are submitted, society member Sandy Cappuccino edits them and prints them to the appropriate size to be framed. Board member Keith Breininger then hangs them.
There are a few photos of deceased veterans from outside the northwest Lehigh area. I learned about the project when Donmoyer contacted me asking for a photo of Edward Reiter of Northampton, whom I wrote about recently.
Reiter went missing in action during the Korean War in 1950. His remains were identified a few months ago; they had been found about a year after he was fatally shot, but had been buried as an unknown.
But most of the photos are from the Weisenberg-Lowhill area, with some from nearby Lynn and Heidelberg townships.

The Veterans Appreciation Wall is actually multiple walls. Photos line both sides of a narrow hallway. There also are photos are on the wall of the stairway leading to the second floor, with plenty of room to add more.
The photo and medals of Herber are the first you see when you enter the hallway.
He was aboard the USS LST-342, a tank landing ship, when it exploded and broke in two after being struck by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine in July 1943 near the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.
The stern sank but the bow stayed afloat and was towed ashore so equipment could be salvaged.
Herber, 24, was listed as missing in action. A year later, he was declared to be deceased.
The historical society also has the Gold Star Service Flag that was displayed in the front window of his home, and a photo and funeral card of Herber’s uncle, Oliver John Herber. He was an infantryman who was killed in France in 1918 during World War I, at age 22.
The Veterans Appreciation Wall shows what a family affair military service has been in the area. There are photos of brothers, sisters, fathers and sons and fathers and daughters.
They include the Christman brothers (Marvin, Ralph, Thomas); the Fenstermaker brothers (William and Stanley); and brother Franklin Metzger Sr., his sisters Mollie Metzger-Haines and Mary Metzger Morton, and their brother-in-law, Robert Lakatosh.
Glenn Reeder, a historical society board member who was among my tour guides on Monday, provided photos of his father, Waldo Reeder, and uncles Martin and Bland Reeder. All served in World War II and Martin and Bland also served in Korea.
The memorial includes photos of a few service members who died in recent years, including in campaigns in the Middle East. Not all of the veterans who are honored were killed in action. Some returned home after their service.
I had never been to the Weisenberg/Lowhill Township Historical Society before my visit Monday. I could have spent all day there if time allowed.
The society has done a wonderful job of acquiring and displaying items to preserve northwest Lehigh County’s history. That includes preserving the Civil War-era hotel where the society is based.
You don’t have to be from the Weisenberg-Lowhill region to appreciate the museum. It reflects the heritage of the broader Lehigh Valley area and Pennsylvania, too.
The Werleys Corner Hotel was built in 1865, with an addition in the 1880s. It included a general store and post office. The original store counter and post office boxes are still there and in great condition. The bar is still there, too. Some of the rooms have original wallpaper.
Zimmerman grew up in the hotel, which was purchased by her grandparents in 1917. She deeded the closed hotel to the historical society, which opened the museum in 2002.

The building was empty when she donated it. Now it’s full of artifacts such as furniture; Bibles; maps; lamps; a rifle case; shaving and personal care items; playing cards; dinnerware; commemorative plates; an organ; and items from local businesses.
Clothing includes the ornate garb of fraternal organizations, and baseball uniforms from the Lyon Valley team that was managed by the father of historical society President Emeritus and Historian Donald Breininger, who was another of my tour guides during my visit, along with Sterling Reinert, the society vice president.
One of the rooms at the hotel is filled with items from Zimmerman’s family, including the wedding attire of her parents. She has no siblings or children, and this is how she intends to pass down her heritage.
“It’s a labor of love,” said Zimmerman, who now lives in South Whitehall. “I always liked history. I always liked local history. So what we are doing is preserving history.”
The adjacent barn and outbuildings contain many more artifacts including farm equipment, tools, a horse-drawn carriage, wheelchair, school desks and kitchen and butchering equipment.
The museum does not have public visiting hours, but is open during the many events that the historical society holds. It also can be open by appointment.
Upcoming events include a Halloween Spooktacular from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23; fall basket socials on various dates between Nov. 6 and Nov. 12; and Christmas cookie, soup and candy sales from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10 and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11.
A schedule of events and more information about the museum and historical society are available on its website, weisenberglowhill.org/.
If you have a photo of a deceased veteran from northwest Lehigh that you would like to be displayed on the Veterans Appreciation Wall, call 610-298-2091 or email weislowths@gmail.com. Photos must show the veteran in their uniform.

Bonus Vacation Or Choppy Nightmare? Heres What Its Like On A Cruise Ship Stuck At Sea During A Hurricane The Points Guy
Bonus Vacation Or Choppy Nightmare? Here’s What It’s Like On A Cruise Ship Stuck At Sea During A Hurricane – The Points Guy https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/bonus-vacation-or-choppy-nightmare-heres-what-its-like-on-a-cruise-ship-stuck-at-sea-during-a-hurricane-the-points-guy/
There’s always a possibility of bad weather and rough seas when you go on a cruise, but cruise lines are well prepared to change course if an approaching storm could be too dangerous to navigate. There are also contingencies if they are unable to return to port as scheduled. Right now, all those playbooks have been dusted off and are in use.
On Monday, Sept. 26, as Hurricane Ian was closing in on Florida, Disney Wish left Port Canaveral for a four-night Bahamas cruise with planned stops at Nassau and Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island, before a planned return to Port Canaveral on Friday, Sept. 30.
But with Hurricane Ian a dangerous Category 4 storm making landfall in Central Florida, Port Canaveral closed and has ceased all operations until further notice.

Without the option to return to Florida as originally scheduled, Disney Wish — along with other cruise ships — is (temporarily) “stuck” at sea.
While staying at sea and away from the storm is the safest decision, travelers still have a lot of questions, concerns and general curiosity about the change of course. The Points Guy spoke with passengers currently on board Disney Wish to learn what it’s like being out at sea for a few extra days during a hurricane.
You’ll get frequent updates from the captain
When Disney Wish set sail on Sept. 26, the captain made an announcement that the ship might return to Port Canaveral later in the day than originally planned based on the projected forecast at that time. Matt Roseboom, editor and publisher at Attractions Magazine, is on board the sailing and captured video footage of the initial announcement.
The captain notified guests with flights leaving before 3 p.m. on Sept. 30 to contact their airline to depart later in the day, if possible. He also advised that they were watching Hurricane Ian carefully and would continue to keep passengers updated on the weather throughout the voyage.
Lizzie Meeks, a Disney travel advisor in Nashville, is also on the sailing and explained to TPG that the captain told guests “the port authority will need to assess any damage before giving the ship the green light to move into port and the cruise terminal.”
Your itinerary might be adjusted
A cruise ship’s schedule of port visits and sea days can be adjusted midcruise for a number of reasons. The weather is certainly one of those reasons — even absent a full-fledged hurricane. But when a hurricane is churning, it is very possible that the ship’s itinerary will change.
For Disney Wish, a port change announcement came on the morning of Sept. 28 when the ship was scheduled to dock at Castaway Cay for the day. Rather than head toward Disney’s private island, and toward the storm, the ship turned toward the eastern edge of the Atlantic Ocean where seas would be calmer.
Meeks shared that the winds near Castaway Cay were too strong, with little hope for improvement, so the captain made the decision to sail away from the area.
LIZZY MEEKS
A day at port became a day at sea, but Disney conjured a bit of its famous “Disney magic” and added more activities throughout the day, according to Roseboom. “They made an announcement and told us to close out of the Disney Cruise app and reopen it to see the new schedule of activities,” he said. Mickey and his friends still wore their island outfits to greet guests, even if everyone had to stay on board.
“They’ve really made an effort to make it a special day,” Meeks said. “There have been a ton of new character meet and greets throughout the day, including Marvel, ‘Star Wars’ and Halloween characters that are typically reserved for special event cruises. New group games and trivia themes have been added, as well as additional times for drink tastings like Champagne, bourbon, gin and more,” she added.

Your cruise might be extended
If a hurricane strikes while you are at sea, it’s also possible that you may end up with an extended sailing and extra days on the ship.
That’s currently the situation for Carnival Paradise, Carnival Elation, Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway, MSC Cruise’s MSC Divina and Disney Wish. With several Florida ports closed due to the storm, the ships cannot return to disembark passengers on schedule.
LIZZY MEEKS
In such cases, cruise lines have two options: head to a different port up or down the coast to disembark passengers or remain at sea until the ship’s home port reopens. Docking at a different port creates a whole new set of issues for passengers who need to return to cars, homes or airports near the originally scheduled port — so that option is rarely used.

In the case of Disney Wish, the first announcement came on the evening of Sept. 27 as the storm moved closer to shore. Based on updated forecasts, the captain announced the ship would not return to port until Saturday or Sunday, after the storm had passed and they could better assess the situation at Port Canaveral. That meant passengers would remain on board one or two days longer than expected.
Before he could even complete the announcement, cheers erupted through the ship, as seen in the below video.
In a subsequent announcement on the afternoon of Sept. 28, the captain updated guests that Disney Wish would return to Port Canaveral on Sunday instead of Friday and that the ship should be able to dock at Castaway Cay on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Even before the extension of this sailing was formally announced, Disney Cruise Line canceled the upcoming Disney Wish sailing that was set to depart Port Canaveral on Friday, Sept. 30, as a safety precaution.
Extra days are generally a good thing
As that announcement was made, audible cheers confirmed that most guests were thrilled that their vacation was just extended indefinitely. “The general sentiment is that people are content and happy about the extra day(s),” Roseboom said.
Cruise ships can easily avoid storms by sailing away from them and chasing better weather. For Disney Wish, at least, the weather has been fairly calm. “The current weather is sunshine with some humidity. We had choppier waves this morning [when the ship was closer to the storm], but from where we are now, you wouldn’t even know there was a hurricane in the distance,” Meeks said.
LIZZY MEEKS
Plus, the crew is prepared to innovate to accommodate the extra days. The entertainment staff will schedule more sea-day activities, just as they did when Castaway Cay got canceled.
Guests don’t need to worry about running out of food, as cruise ships carry more than just one sailing’s worth of food on board. In a pinch, the cruise ship can find a way of picking up provisions in the islands. With two extra days at sea, the ship might run out of specific perishables, like berries, but passengers will still have plenty of choices at every meal.
Because Disney Wish employs a rotational dining schedule, in which passengers are assigned nights at each of the ship’s main restaurants, guests must now wait to be told which restaurants they should dine in on the additional nights of the sailing. “Since Disney Cruise Line uses rotational dining, they simply assigned us two more nights of a restaurant. It’s really operating like normal in many ways,” Meeks said.
You’ll have to rearrange travel plans
Roseboom, who resides in Central Florida, is enjoying the extra day or two of vacation, but is equally worried about his house and friends and family back home in the wake of Hurricane Ian. “For cruisers who live outside of Florida, they seem to be mostly happy, but they do have to figure out how to change their flights,” he shared.
For Meeks, reality set in as the cheers subsided.
“Some people, including myself, found the news concerning because of travel logistics — changing transfers and flights, booking a hotel room just in case our flights are canceled and communicating with family back home are all stressful and you could feel the tension late last night,” she said.
Not only is Port Canaveral closed until Hurricane Ian passes and the wind calms, but Orlando International Airport (MCO) has also shuttered during the storm.
Even once the airport reopens after the storm has passed, it will take some time for planes and crews to get back into position, and longer still to accommodate all of the passengers who have been temporarily stranded in the Central Florida area.
This is one of the reasons why when cruising during hurricane season, it’s very important to seriously consider travel insurance, or at least book your trip using a credit card that conveys some built-in trip protections to help minimize the financial impact.
Bottom line
“There are certainly worse places to be ‘stuck,'” Meeks told us. “A lot of people have the perspective that we are safe and have much to be thankful for,” she added. Crew and passenger safety is the reason cruise lines make the decision to stay at sea past the end of their scheduled itinerary. Yes, it can be inconvenient, but cruise lines do go out of their way to make the most of the experience for their guests, and safety is always the top priority.

Music In The Metaverse: Redefining Music Rights In The Web3 World Music Business Worldwide
Music In The Metaverse: Redefining Music Rights In The Web3 World – Music Business Worldwide https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/music-in-the-metaverse-redefining-music-rights-in-the-web3-world-music-business-worldwide/
The following MBW op/ed comes from Deborah Mannis-Gardner, Owner/President, Disney Music Group [20 articles]”DMG Clearances, and a global expert on music rights clearances. After starting DMG Clearances, Inc. in 1996, Mannis-Gardner has since cleared releases for artists including Drake, Tyler the Creator, DJ Khaled, Eminem, Pop Smoke, Logic, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, John Legend, Megan Thee Stallion, Big K.R.I.T., Brockhampton, French Montana, Big Sean, J. Cole, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more. Mannis-Gardner has also handled music clearances for metaverse platforms Meta and Roblox; films by Martin Scorsese, The Coen Brothers, and Richard Linklater; TV networks and streaming services such as HBO, Showtime, Netflix [270 articles]”Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount+; ad campaigns for Google [710 articles]”Google, Ciroc, and Kmart; podcasts such as Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell’s “Broken Record”; video games such as Rockstar Games franchises “Grand Theft Auto” and “Red Dead Redemption”; and political campaigns such as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign. Mannis-Gardner also served as the award-winning music supervisor of HBO’s Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine docu-series “The Defiant Ones.”
It feels like just yesterday when “the metaverse” was only a hot new word, a thing of the distant future. Now, the music industry is playing catch-up to the world of Web3 and the rapid pace with which it is changing and growing.
Whether it be Lil Nas X performing in Roblox, AI musicians, or NFTs, Web3 is opening the door to many exciting and new opportunities. However, they also come with a subset of issues that the music and tech industries need to address as soon as possible.
Music rights are my life’s work and passion, and I have had the honor of working with artists like DJ Khaled, Megan Thee Stallion, Drake, and more, as well as film/TV and podcast projects for Rick Rubin, The Coen Brothers, Richard Linklater, Netflix, and Disney+, among others.
Recently, I worked with Post Malone to handle music clearances for his metaverse performance on the Meta platform, and something struck me.
Back in the early 1990s, when hip-hop artists were struggling to legitimize sampling, music industry executives tried to fit a square peg in a round hole by applying existing licensing criteria and terminology to a new field that they considered a “fad.” Of course, sampling only grew more popular, and eventually, a new licensing framework was created to accommodate it.
Currently, we are having the same problem with Web3, and after that Post Malone metaverse project, I immersed myself in the Web3 world to apply the lessons I learned from the early days of sampling to this new field. More specifically, it has been my personal goal to address licensing terminology, which in my experience, has been a very complicated and confusing process for everyone involved.
It all begins with mechanical licenses, which cover the publishing side of a composition. Mechanical royalty rates are set by the government and are not subject to negotiations — if an artist wants to cover a song and release it on their album, they only need to provide notice and pay the government-mandated royalty.
Where things get tricky is when a song is paired with a visual, like in an advertising campaign, TV show, or movie. At that point, a synchronization license is needed, which requires negotiations with not only the publishing company but also the label that owns the master recording of a work. Either party can request as much money as they want, and they can shut down the usage completely by saying no.
However, over the past few years, mechanical and synchronization licenses have quickly become antiquated. For example, sometimes music usages in audiobooks and podcasts are paid via mechanical licenses, the argument being that there is no visual linked to the audio. But shouldn’t a song’s rights-holders get the opportunity to decide which kinds of audio content they want their songs to be associated with, and for how much?
Now, Web3, the metaverse, and NFTs are challenging these licensing definitions even further. With traditional synchronization licenses, rights-holders can see exactly what they are agreeing to connect their music with. But in the metaverse, the vast majority of content is user-generated, and that should come into consideration. Also, NFTs can take many forms, from an exclusive track, which could fall under a mechanical license, or video/audio set to music, which would require a synchronization license. NFTs can also be resold, and rights-holders should be able to receive a portion of each sale.
So, how do we solve this problem? I would argue the best way is to introduce the new licensing terms Art-Driven Mechanical (for the mechanical reproduction in another art form) and Art-Driven Synchronization (for the syncing of music to another art form). By creating these new terms for Web3, we can grant permission to music copyright holders to generate at least two values or quotes as a means of collecting proper compensation for new Web3 music uses, whether or not music is the primary art form — and this art form will include the written word and other media.
For example, an NFT would be subject to three fees: an art-driven mechanical royalty rate to generate income from included songs over time, an art-driven synchronization flat fee to cover any video/audio syncs, and an ongoing resale fee that provides a portion of future revenue to rights-holders on a pro-rated basis. Music usages in the metaverse would then be subject to two fees: an art-driven synchronization flat fee to use the song in the platform and a separate user-generated content (UGC) fee, in addition to the performance fees for the recording and compensation through PROs and CMOs.
To help make this a reality, I have joined fellow music industry professionals Jessica Vaughn (Head of Sync of Venice Music and President of Head Bitch Music), Stacey Haber (The Music Firm), Vickie Nauman (Founder & CEO of CrossBorderWorks), Jess Furman (SVP of Sync Strategy at Big Noise Music), Brian Blatz (Attorney for Granderson Des Rochers), and Donovan Brown (Sr. Community Manager at Venice Music) to start the Web3 Music Rights Group. Our goal is to share insight and knowledge from our broad areas of expertise in music licensing, law, music tech, record labels, publishing, and more.
The music industry is always evolving, and it is crucial that we have more discussions about embracing the world of Web3 and the metaverse so that we are always protecting the art and everyone involved. Redefining terminology can be scary and a lot of work to figure out, but we will all be left better prepared instead of playing catch-up. I encourage anyone interested in being part of this discussion to join the Web3 Music Rights Group by registering at web3musicrights.com.Music Business Worldwide

Why Luxury Trains Are The Next Stop For Some Luxury Hotel Brands The Points Guy
Why Luxury Trains Are The Next Stop For Some Luxury Hotel Brands – The Points Guy https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/why-luxury-trains-are-the-next-stop-for-some-luxury-hotel-brands-the-points-guy/
You have more than Agatha Christie to thank if you immediately think “Orient Express” when someone brings up the notion of luxury train travel (preferably sans murder).
The Venice-Simplon Orient Express still runs today thanks to travel company Belmond (formerly known as Orient Express Hotels). The luxury train operates between a variety of cities, including Paris and Istanbul, and will set passengers back a hefty penny: A five-night voyage between the two cities next August costs over $36,000 for a double occupancy historic cabin, Belmond’s entry-level offering aboard the VSOE.
Want a nicer suite? That’ll run more than $86,000.

With rates like that — and trains that frequently sell out — it’s no wonder others are entering the luxury train orbit and why there are increasingly more luxury train offerings around the world.

In Japan, one doesn’t just book an overnight trip on the Seven Stars train service — you apply to be picked from a lottery. If selected, travelers take one- to three-night journeys through Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost main island known for its volcanoes and beaches. Fares range from $6,332 for a one-person suite on the one-night voyage to nearly $17,000 for a one-person deluxe suite on the three-night excursion.
Belmond, which declined questions for this story, operates trains like the Royal Scotsman and British Pullman in the U.K. In Asia, there’s the Eastern & Oriental Express, and in Peru, Belmond offers the Andean Explorer.
A newer entrant in luxury-on-rails comes from the hotel sphere. Accor plans to launch its own Orient Express, the Orient Express La Dolce Vita, sometime next year amid its broader expansion of the Orient Express brand into hospitality.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be able to take a brand that people dream about — a true luxury brand is one that you can fall in love with,” Stephen Alden, Accor’s CEO of Raffles and Orient Express, told TPG earlier this year. “Who hasn’t dreamed of taking a trip with Orient Express?”

Hotels on the rails
It may seem like a head-scratcher that hotel companies want to get into the business of train transit, but experts say this isn’t some out-of-left-field infrastructure play by the hospitality sector. Instead, it’s something akin to how Marriott International is getting into the cruise business while Four Seasons rolled out a private jet service.
In short: This array of Orient Express offerings or Belmond’s luxury train lineup isn’t exactly Amtrak’s Northeast Regional between Boston and New York City.
“I’m not sure that hospitality train services are going to be mainstream. I think it’s going to remain a niche offering, which will be an interesting one,” said Nicolas Graf, associate dean at New York University’s Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality. “I’m not discounting that [possibility], but I don’t think it’s something that will grow as another alternative type of lodging.”
But there’s still a reason to go even after the most niche of travel sectors, as customers in this space tend to spend more on travel. Hotel companies made various plays for luxury consumers in recent years, and those overtures ramped up during the pandemic.
The Grand Suite aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. BELMOND
IHG acquired ultra-luxury brands like Regent and Six Senses. Marriott International launched a vacation rental platform called Homes & Villas. Mandarin Oriental went a step further by launching its own vacation home rental arm, but this division went through a 700-point checklist to guarantee the homes Mandarin Oriental offered were basically at the same quality level as an actual Mandarin Oriental hotel.
“If your objective is to catch as close to 100% of the share of your guest’s travel wallet, you want to have enough scale that they never need to look outside your ecosystem,” Marriott International CEO Anthony Capuano said at Skift Global Forum this month, while introducing the rationale for why the company launched Homes & Villas.
Using that logic, why wouldn’t a hotel company or two go after luxury train travelers? It’s a way to offer yet another new experience to the booming leisure travel segment.
“I’m not surprised that Accor is getting into it. It’s fabulous because it’s another extension of the hospitality experience to be able to provide something new and different,” said Leora Lanz, assistant dean of academic affairs at Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration. “This, to me, is just another creative offering to provide for the leisure experience. It’s about creating memorable experiences.”
Trainspotting
The Eastern & Oriental Express. BELMOND
Just because there’s a market for something like this doesn’t mean you should expect Belmond or Accor to suddenly start running luxury trains along the Northeast Corridor or across the U.S. Instead, this is likely to remain a geographically limited travel sector rooted in places that historically had ties to luxury train travel like Europe and select parts of Asia.
That can also mean using historic train routes that take longer to traverse in order to give riders a more scenic route — and enough time to make it seem like they are getting bang for their buck.
“If you look at the railroad system, the modern one, for the most part, has been designed for efficiency. Instead of going up the mountain, they build a tunnel. Now, the more historical ones go through windy paths and up mountains and pass by lakes. They have a totally different scenery,” Graf said. “You need these ingredients to make it worth more money. I would look at where historically these were built because they are the ones that would offer the ingredients for the ultra-luxury train experience.”
Sorry, Northeast Regional. Maybe in a few hundred years you’ll get your Venice-Simplon Orient Express moment.

Wellframe And Linkwell Health Launch Wellsquared To Close The Gap Between Health Plans And Their Members Insurance News Net
Wellframe And Linkwell Health Launch Wellsquared To Close The Gap Between Health Plans And Their Members – Insurance News Net https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/wellframe-and-linkwell-health-launch-wellsquared-to-close-the-gap-between-health-plans-and-their-members-insurance-news-net/
, (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today Wellframe and announced the launch of Wellsquared, a new product designed to deepen engagement with members and help health plans deliver the modern healthcare experience members expect. Wellsquared is a partnership between Wellframe, the market leader in member experience solutions for health plans, and , the premier consumer engagement technology and content company serving health plans and health services organizations.
Wellsquared will enable health plans to seamlessly onboard members, better educate them about their health plan and care options, and empower them to more effectively activate and utilize their benefits.
Health plans have long struggled to engage members effectively and have been slow to evolve their marketing approach to meet the rising expectations of the modern health plan member. A recent Wellframe consumer survey of over 1,000 health plan members found that only 33% of individuals fully understand their health plan communications with a full 10% saying they’re “always” confused by them. Those new to insurance (33%) and long-term insurance members (29%) are almost equally confused about their health plan benefits.
The survey provided a clear picture that members don’t understand or know the full benefits their health plans offer due to the lack of structured communications provided by their insurer.
Wellsquared addresses this challenge head-on, and health plans and members alike will benefit. Health plan members will experience a significant change in how their health plans communicate with them, making it easier to learn how to take advantage of all the benefits plans offer. Wellsquared offers health plans the following new services:
Easy integration into other health plans’ communication channels, including email, social media, SMS, and print.
Branded-content hosting for more active, measurable member outreach.
Customization of content according to the plan’s marketing and engagement goals.
Development of engagement journeys to drive members through the funnel and provide the proper support through their health journey.
Creation of targeted content for response-driven omnichannel programs, accounting for any necessary regulatory needs.
Shifting behavior is key to creating change, especially as 43% of members say they don’t understand their health or benefits coverage, and 88% say they often ignore phone calls from businesses or unknown numbers.
“The consumer survey we conducted was reassurance that clear and consistent communication with health plan members is a big area of opportunity,” said , senior vice president of marketing and engagement at Wellframe. “Wellsquared is the right solution that will provide the strategy, resources, and support for our health partners and members.”
“Wellsquared’s new member engagement model takes advantage of high-quality content distributed on multiple channels and published on health plan-branded content destinations to improve awareness, engagement, and utilization,” said , president and chief executive officer of . “Members will develop greater trust in their health plan and be more receptive to its programs when they receive content that is contextual, action-oriented, and meets them where they are on their individual health journey.”

After-Hours Events Concerts And Tours At Washington. D.C.. Museums The Washington Post
After-Hours Events, Concerts And Tours At Washington. D.C.. Museums – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/after-hours-events-concerts-and-tours-at-washington-d-c-museums-the-washington-post/
On a recent Thursday night in the National Gallery of Art’s East Building, I watched from a railing at the edge of the mezzanine level as crowds on the floors beneath flocked between exhibits and bars and perched with drinks at colorfully lit tables. Patrons collected sketch pads from museum staff and set about creating gesture drawings of two elegantly dressed models, not far from where DJ Heat had coaxed lines of dancers into enthusiastically doing the wobble. In the galleries, groups posed for selfies next to paintings by Wayne Thiebaud and Amy Sherald, while 20-somethings wandered through the crowd, phones held high in their extended arms, capturing the scene for TikTok.
Where did all these people come from?
After-hours parties began returning to Washington museums in the spring, once again drawing locals with a mix of culture and mingling, drinks and hands-on activities. But in recent weeks, interest has exploded. The Phillips Collection’s Phillips After 5 and National Gallery Nights sold out of tickets for their September dates, as did some of the Library of Congress’s weekly Live! at the Library events, such as one featuring a conversation with author Ian McEwan.
More than 3,300 people passed through the National Gallery on Sept. 8, which Sherri Williams, the manager of community programs, says is “on par with our highest attendance ever” — around 800 to 1,000 more people than the pre-pandemic average. And while passes are free, letting patrons reserve them without fear of commitment, “more people are showing up, redeeming their pass,” Williams says. The attrition rate was about 35 percent in September, below what organizers would usually expect for a free event. Also surprising: The first wave of free tickets was snatched up in less than three minutes, faster than some of this summer’s popular Jazz in the Garden events.
Museum after-hours parties have been part of D.C.’s cultural fabric since the mid- to late 2000s, when events like Hirshhorn After Hours and Phillips After 5 became cultural phenomena, drawing crowds very different from the ones that visited during the day. “Looking at the 2,800 partygoers, it was hard to imagine that a single, good-looking, under-30 District resident was left beyond the museum’s plaza walls,” wrote a Post reporter when electronic artist Dan Deacon headlined a raucous event at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in 2008.
But large crowds and cool vibes (and funds raised by alcohol and ticket sales) aren’t the only reason museums are glad to host these events. The Library of Congress conceived the weekly Live! at the Library series as a way to engage local residents, explains Katie Klenkel, the library’s chief of visitor engagement. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and “we were just missing out on a huge part of our audiences who worked during the day Monday through Friday and just didn’t have a chance to come see our great exhibits or experience what we have to offer,” Klenkel says.
Keith Costas, the Phillips Collection’s director of special events, was part of the group that helped create Phillips After 5 as a weekly, and then monthly, event back in the summer of 2008. To date, the gallery — the first museum of modern art in the U.S. — has hosted, by Costas’s count, 155 After 5s. “Everyone has always said to me, ‘Keith, you’re just throwing a party.’ I said, ‘Well, no, that’s not the case.’ You know, my purpose is really just to bring people in, to get them to learn about the collection, our special exhibitions, and to walk away having an enriched cultural experience.” Yes, he says, there will always be people “having a glass of wine, listening to music, engaging, conversing with people, you know, going on a date.” But for the staff who created and continue to plan the event, he says, “it was always about the art and making it a cultural and learning experience.”
Beyond a good time, these after-hours events are about inviting Washingtonians to think of art as part of their lives — an after-work social experience as natural as going to happy hour or rounding up friends to catch up over dinner. And if you learn something about Lou Stovall’s museum workshop, or decide to come back another day to continue gazing at modern art, so much the better.
Phillips After 5 at the Phillips Collection
The Phillips Collection began in Duncan Phillips’s home, and even though the building has been extended and modernized numerous times, Phillips After 5 still gives off house-party vibes. One minute, you’re upstairs in an exhibition space, browsing the brightly colored silk-screen prints in “Lou Stovall: The Museum Workshop,” listening to a spotlight tour where guest curator Will Stovall is delving into the history of the posters his father created for concerts at Bohemian Caverns, his more activist work and the prints made for Washington Color School pioneers such as Gene Davis.
Then you head down the curvaceous spiral staircase to the lobby. There’s a beer tasting with D.C.’s own Soul Mega happening in the gift shop. Go through a set of doors and you’re out in the courtyard, where hands are in the air and bodies are bouncing while local jazz-meets-go-go stars the JoGo Project cover UCB’s “Sexy Lady.” Do the people singing along with the chorus notice the site-specific Ellsworth Kelly sculpture behind the band? Maybe, maybe not.
Groove for a bit, then wander back inside and head downstairs, where a silk-screen demonstration is teaching visitors the basic principles of Stovall’s art and they’re making a tote bag to take home. And did I mention that Ben’s Chili Bowl is serving half-smokes?
D.C. art, D.C. music, D.C. food and a hands-on experience that brings it back to the art: That kind of synergy is what Nehemiah Dixon III, the Phillips’s senior director of community engagement, is looking for when Phillips After 5 is in the planning stages. “I think everything paired well,” he says after the “We’re Back! Let’s Go-Go” event in early September. “You can tell the excitement, the buzz of people being back in the museum at that capacity.”
The nature of the Phillips’s exhibitions is something that Dixon relishes: “We’re in a unique place where our walls change fairly consistently,” he says. “And with each new exhibition, with each new show, there’s a new opportunity to sort of experiment and play” with the themes of After 5. Next month, though, the focus is on the most iconic painting in the collection: Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party.”
The Phillips draws a slightly older crowd than the National Gallery and some Smithsonian events — I’m willing to bet the $20 ticket price has something to do with the demographics — and guests seem fairly split between those who are focused on the music and the art. But that’s fine with Dixon. “Whether it’s a painting on the wall or a program that you’re attending, our goal is always, you know, let’s create these pockets of joy for our community.”
When: The first Thursday of the month from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Next up: “Oktoberfest” on Oct. 6, featuring tours and talks focused on Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” and the opportunity to take a photo in a 3D version of the painting; jazz from the Carr/Keys quintet; hard cider from Capitol Cider House and German Oktoberfest beers. 1600 21st Street NW.
Live! at the Library at the Library of Congress
If some other after-hours events come across as eager to party, the Library of Congress is the refined older relative, befitting its setting in the grand marble building across the street from the Capitol. Since its first event in May, Live! at the Library has allowed visitors to gawk at the magnificent dome and sculptures in the historic Reading Room, which is surely one of the most beautiful indoor spaces in D.C. Events have given visitors a chance to see Abraham Lincoln’s life mask, celebrate Juneteenth with the Gullah band Ranky Tanky and ask Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle about the books that spurred his love of reading, as well as to explore ongoing exhibits. The series attracts locals interested in the subject of the week, but also a Hill crowd and, given the location, plenty of tourists.
The lack of access to exhibits for locals working 9-to-5 jobs had been part of the inspiration for the series, but Katie Klenkel, the chief of visitor engagement, explains that there was also a desire to consolidate the library’s calendar. Between author talks, film screenings, concerts, lectures and other events, “we do so many programs at the library on so many different disparate topics” that sometimes potential audience members didn’t know that something they’d be interested in was happening. “And so we were trying to create a through line for people so they could anticipate that kind of cultural programming on a specific date, specific time, every Thursday,” Klenkel says. “It makes it easier than having things on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday evenings.”
So after beloved radio producers and podcasters the Kitchen Sisters donated their entire archive to the library’s American Folklife Center, it was a natural fit to have them as guests at Live! at the Library in mid-September, interviewed by Academy Award winner Frances McDormand. Ditto author Ian McEwan, who discussed his latest novel, “Lessons,” on Sept. 22, or journalist James Kirchick, who celebrated Pride Month by talking about his book “Secret City: The Hidden History of Gay Washington” while the library displayed items from its collection that Kirchick used in his research.
But there’s an element of surprise, too, when the library can pull out that Lincoln life mask, show off a selection of items from the Harry Houdini collection or display vintage Star Wars trading cards that may...

The price of Ripple’s XRP token is in the green for the past 24 hours, after buyers bid it up from a strong support zone yesterday. And although $0.50 may be a stretch today, the significant price level could be in play once highs from this week are taken out.
As of Thursday at 11:36 UTC, XRP traded at $0.44, up 2.8% for the past 24 hours and up 2.7% for the past 7 days. Notably, the token also stands out as one of the best-performing tokens over the past 30 days among the top 100 coins by market cap with a gain of 33.2%.
XRP 30-day price chart. Source: CoinGecko
The gains today came after the token reached a peak of $0.56 on Friday last week, which was followed by a near week-long sell-off. The selling intensified in recent days, before buyers entered the scene on Wednesday to bid the price up from the $0.42 support zone.
The question for traders now is whether XRP will continue to rise after bouncing off the support zone yesterday, or if the downtrend from the past few days instead will resume.
Looking at the token purely from a technical analysis standpoint, it’s clear that the short-term trend is now up. This can clearly be seen on the hourly chart, with a series of higher lows since the market bottomed yesterday around 8am UTC.
Zooming out to the daily timeframe, however, we can see that a fall towards previous resistance-turned support around $0.385 could be in the cards. It’s also worth noting that the daily relative strength index (RSI) has fallen from “overbought” territory, and is now in the upper half of the neutral zone.
To the upside, the first major obstacle would be Wednesday’s high of around $0.45 area. If that level is taken out, further upside towards highs from earlier this week around $0.50 could also be seen within a relatively short amount of time.
Ripple court case lingers on
As reported by Cryptonews.com on Wednesday, XRP was down 11% over the course of just 24 hours that day as the Ripple vs. SEC legal battle lingers on.
The latest news from the case now is that both Ripple and the SEC have filed for the court to make a summary judgment on the case, which would bring it to a close. Such a judgment isn’t going to be made immediately, but the fact that both parties have called for it means that it’s now on the horizon.
Ripple has been involved in a legal battle against the US financial regulator since December of 2020, when the SEC brought a suit against the firm for its sale of XRP tokens to investors.
Russia-Ukraine War Latest Updates The Washington Post
Russia-Ukraine War Latest Updates – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/russia-ukraine-war-latest-updates-the-washington-post/
Russian President Vladimir Putin will sign treaties claiming to annex four areas of Ukraine on Friday, as separatist leaders from Ukraine arrived in Moscow for what they called “a historic decision” to join Russia. Staged referendums — illegal under international law and widely condemned by Western countries — concluded earlier this week in occupied parts of Ukraine’s Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Explosions that damaged the Nord Stream pipelines and caused natural gas to leak into the Baltic Sea this week appeared to be “the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage,” NATO said Thursday. It vowed to meet any attacks against its members’ infrastructure “with a united and determined response.”
Here’s the latest on the war and its ripple effects across the globe.

Separatist leaders from Russian-occupied portions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia are in Moscow to complete the procedure of Russian annexation of Ukrainian territory, Kirill Stremousov, a Russian-installed official from Kherson, said in a Telegram post. He shared a group photo of the arrival and called it a “happy ending.”
Putin will address lawmakers Friday at 3 p.m. local time (8 a.m. Eastern time). The ceremony will take place in the Grand Kremlin Palace to sign “agreements on the accession of new territories into the Russian Federation,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. The inflammatory move appears likely to slam the door on diplomacy for years to come and almost certainly assure further escalation of the war, with Kyiv vowing to fight to reclaim all of its lands.
The annexation requires a number of procedural sign-offs within Russia, including votes from Russia’s State Duma parliament and Federation Assembly to approve the treaty, as happened when Moscow annexed Crimea in 2014. The United States, Canada and the European Union have all vowed never to recognize the annexed land as part of Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was working with Western allies to firm up support against annexation.
The White House has said it is working with “allies and partners to impose additional economic costs on Russia,” should annexation go ahead. “You can expect additional measures from us in the coming days,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said this week.

A total of four leaks in the Nord Stream pipelines have been reported, after the Swedish coast guard confirmed Thursday that there were two leaks in Sweden’s economic zone and two in Denmark’s. Investigations into the cause of the explosions are continuing.
The European Union and several nations suspect sabotage and have blamed Russia, which denies causing any damage to the underwater energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, which supplies gas to Western Europe. NATO said Thursday that current evidence shows the leaks were “the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage.” The alliance vowed it would defend against “hybrid tactics.”
Russia has denied any involvement and blames the United States. Its Foreign Ministry said Thursday the leaks occurred in the trade and economic zones of “NATO-centric countries” that are completely “controlled by the U.S. intelligence services.” The Kremlin has said it was not in Russia’s economic interest to damage the pipelines and called for a U.N. Security Council meeting. A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the United States had nothing to do with any attack, calling the idea “preposterous.”
The damage to the Nord Stream pipelines could result in the largest single release of methane into the atmosphere ever recorded, experts said. The Danish Energy Agency said sections of the damaged pipe contained 778 million cubic meters of natural gas, which, if it reached the atmosphere, would be equivalent to about 1/1000th of estimated annual global methane emissions, according to calculations by scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Gas Hydrates Project.

The United States will provide a $1.1 billion weapons package to Ukraine over the next few years, including 18 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers, a “core component of Ukraine’s fighting force in the future,” a senior U.S. defense official told reporters Wednesday, speaking on the condition of anonymity under ground rules set by the Pentagon. Defense officials said nearly 20 other nations have also agreed to accelerate arms production to replace Ukraine’s Soviet-era equipment with modern systems used by NATO.
Russian lawmakers have lashed out at those fleeing to avoid military conscription. Eligible citizens who are registered with the military are “forbidden to leave … without the permission of the military commissariats,” said speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin on Telegram. Thousands of men are scrambling to the border or rushing for flights to avoid being conscripted to fight in Ukraine. “The better off and well educated are overrepresented among those attempting to leave Russia,” Britain’s Defense Ministry said Thursday in a daily update.
At least 19 people were injured when Russian strikes hit Dnipropetrovsk, regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko said. He said the attack occurred around 8 a.m. local time and targeted industrial infrastructure and damaged homes, power lines and buildings with cluster shells. The Washington Post could not independently verify the account.
Russia continues to send “newly-mobilized and undertrained recruits” to reinforce depleted units in Ukraine, according to an assessment from the Institute for the Study of War think tank. The Russian Defense Ministry also said Wednesday that training for mobilized reservists has started in multiple places across the country. But readying those new troops will be challenging for the Kremlin, a U.S. official told reporters, given the logistics necessary to supply and train them.

NATO decries pipeline ‘sabotage’ amid efforts to measure environmental impact: The NATO military alliance has become the latest international organization to sound alarms after explosions at the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea. It said the blasts appeared to be the result of “deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage.”
Images released Thursday by the Swedish Coast Guard show a large mass of methane bubbles on the sea surface emanating from the leaks.
Cautioning that it was a preliminary estimate, Bjorn Lund, director of the Swedish National Seismic Network told The Washington Post’s Ellen Francis and Meg Kelly that the strength of the larger second blast was equivalent to 100-200 kilograms (220-440 pounds) of TNT. With the consensus among European leaders that sabotage was involved, suspicion is increasingly falling on Russia, which has denied all responsibility.

The Dent Schoolhouse: Meet The People Behind One Of Cincinnatis Scariest Haunted Houses WCPO 9 Cincinnati
The Dent Schoolhouse: Meet The People Behind One Of Cincinnati’s Scariest Haunted Houses – WCPO 9 Cincinnati https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-dent-schoolhouse-meet-the-people-behind-one-of-cincinnatis-scariest-haunted-houses-wcpo-9-cincinnati/
CINCINNATI — Tri-State native Alex Dickey lives a double life. During the day, he works as a purchasing manager for a local restaurant, but when the sun goes down, he transforms into a monster.
From mid-September to late October, Dickey works as a scare actor at The Dent Schoolhouse.
The legendary haunt attraction has consumed most of his free time during the spooky season for the past five years, but Dickey said he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I’ve always loved Halloween,” Dickey said. “I’ve always had a passion for decorating and going out and scaring.”
The Dent Schoolhouse is one of the top Halloween Haunts in the country. It’s inside an old schoolhouse that was built in the 1800s and shut down in 1950.

The Tri-State has dozens of Halloween-themed attractions, but Dickey said Dent’s history is what draws him and many of the other actors to come back year after year.
“It is just something about a potentially true story and the whole thing based on it just gives you chills,” he said. “The backstory I think is one that really draws a lot of us in. We believe it to be true.”
According to an urban legend, a murderous school janitor along with many of his victims haunt the grounds.

“It is tough to prove,” Dickey said. “When you are in the building and you hear things and see things it is kind of tough to say otherwise.”
Dickey said that he’s experienced some of the haunting firsthand.
“I’ve seen something get thrown,” he said. “I was getting ready for the night in one of the original parts of the house. I just saw this thing fly off a counter and hit the floor. I am a good five feet away from it. I know I didn’t hit it.”
According to Dickey, that item was a toilet brush, which he said really freaked him out considering the rumors of an evil janitor’s spirit lurking in the dark halls.
“I don’t believe in coincidences,” he said. “It is one of those things that you try not to think about too much.”
Dickey added that other people have experienced strange things on the grounds too, including hearing a whistle in the basement and kids laughing.

Whether you believe the ghost stories or not, there is no doubting the fact that The Dent Schoolhouse haunt is a Tri-State Halloween staple. And it takes a lot of work to make it happen.
“I don’t think a lot of people realize that haunting and making a haunted house is a year-long business,” said Denton Schoolhouse co-owner Bud Stross.
Stross has been working hard to scare Cincinnati for a long time. The Dent Schoolhouse has been open as a haunted attraction for nearly 30 years. Stross, his dad and his business partner, Josh, bought the schoolhouse 17 years ago from the Boy Scouts who were running the haunt as a charity.
“We were just three guys who wanted to do Halloween for a living,” said Stross.
From movie-quality sets to award-winning makeup, over the years, it has evolved into quite a production.
“From start to finish it’s like reliving a horror movie,” Stross said. “We want you to be totally involved from start to finish. The moment you get on our property you’re ours.”
Stross said close to 200 actors and staff work the haunt season every year and like Alex Dickey, they come from all walks of life.
“Some are haunt enthusiasts, they can be haunted house fans, some just want to try something different,” Stross said. “It’s a strange working family of people that come together once a year to scare Cincinnati and then they depart.”
Dickey agrees, he said his co-workers include delivery drivers, mail carriers, retail workers, people in the restaurant industry and even doctors.
“You could be walking down the street and be passing a haunt actor that’s going to put you on your knees at night,” Dickey said. “Your doctor could be a haunt actor and you could have no idea.”
Both Dickey and Stross said there’s just something about the magic of Halloween that keeps actors, staff, and fans coming back year after year.
“Halloween is like a grown-up kid time,” said Dickey. “It’s a chance to relive your youth when you could go home from kindergarten and dress up like superman.”
“Halloween is an amazing holiday,” Stross said. “It’s a fun way to become something different and to leave your normal job or reality just for one day.”
When can I get terrified?
The schoolhouse opened for the season on Sept. 16.
The haunt schedule varies slightly by night but it will be open every weekend through Nov. 5. Throughout the month of October, the haunt is open Thursdays through Sundays.
Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to visit one of Ohio’s scariest Halloween haunts can get their tickets right here.

The Dent Schoolhouse also offers a “Lights Out” experience, a more family-friendly “Lights On” experience, ghost tours and behind-the-scenes tours. All the information can be found here.

He was CEO of AXA Investment Managers and a member of the Group Executive Committee of AXA Group for six years. Andrea also held senior roles at AXA’s insurance business across Europe and internationally. Under his leadership of AXA Investment Managers, assets under management increased by 55% to €800bn and AUM from external clients more than doubled. He is also the co-founder of REsustain, a firm focussed on reducing the carbon intensity of commercial property, where he will remain as a Non-Executive Director.
The appointment has been approved by the PRA and FCA.

A NutriLeads consumer insights report has shown that consumer perceptions fundamentally changed through the pandemic
NutriLeads, a health ingredients company, has announced the results of a new consumer insights report which shows that consumer views on immune health have changed fundamentally in the wake of COVID-19.
The report draws on extensive data gathered by research company FMCG Gurus through consumer surveys conducted with 45,000 consumers from 15 countries across 2019, 2020, and 2022.
According to the report, not only is immune health significantly more important to consumers, but immune health is also perceived to have a far-reaching impact on long-term health and wellbeing. Two-thirds of consumers worldwide say immune health is their top health priority over the next 12 months—more than digestive health, heart health, or any other health issue. In addition, some 78% of consumers view poor immune health as being easily susceptible to long-term health problems.
This research shows us that the experience of living with the pandemic is likely to have a lasting effect
“It’s clear that during the pandemic, consumers have been paying attention to their immune health more than ever before,” said Joana Carneiro, NutriLeads CEO. “This research shows us that the experience of living with the pandemic is likely to have a lasting effect. Consumers are more knowledgeable about immune health and place more importance on improving it on the longer term.”
Among the trends highlighted in the report is the greater number of consumers (40%) who are taking a proactive approach to their immune health even if they believe they are in good health. What’s more, consumers are taking a holistic approach to their wellbeing, incorporating exercise and fresh food in their lifestyle, and paying attention to digestive health and mental wellbeing.
At the same time, consumers expect more from immune health products. Eight in 10 global respondents to the survey say the top three claims they want to see on the label of immunity products are scientifically validated and clinically-proven (82%), multifunctional benefits (79%), and helps lead a healthy lifestyle (79%).

Tyson Fury Sets Anthony Joshua Another New Deadline | Get This Contract Signed Today Sky Sports
Tyson Fury Sets Anthony Joshua Another New Deadline | ‘Get This Contract Signed Today’ – Sky Sports https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/tyson-fury-sets-anthony-joshua-another-new-deadline-get-this-contract-signed-today-sky-sports/
Tyson Fury has returned to negotiations for the all-British heavyweight super-fight with Anthony Joshua.
But Fury has set his rival another deadline and called for him to sign the contract for their showdown today.
“My promoter Frank Warren convinced me to let Queensberry carry on negotiating with your team this week, despite me knowing that you were never going to do this fight,” Fury said.

Fury believes Joe Joyce is currently the second-best heavyweight in the world and admits he could fight his fellow Brit in the future
Both Fury and Joshua are aligned with different broadcasters. Bringing those networks to an agreement on a TV deal was seen as a key stumbling block in the negotiations for this fight. But Fury has claimed that the rival broadcasters are “all happy with the terms”.
“So the deadline was Monday,” Fury said. “I allowed Frank to continue doing meetings with your team and your broadcasters and all that. Now we have BT, DAZN and ESPN all on the same page. They are happy with everything, they are all ready to rock and roll.
“You guys ask for a lot of stuff, you want to be co-promoters when you’re a voluntary challenger. Guess what, I said give it them, let them be co-promoters.
“You wanted full transparency, even though you’re not an equal shareholder in this party. You know what I said? Give them full transparency, I’ve got nothing to hide, I’m not trying to rob anybody, I’ve not robbed anybody of a penny in my life.
“So now you’ve got full transparency, everything is clean and fair. Now Joshua, the ball is really in your court son.”
Joshua has previously insisted that he would sign the contract, but it had to go through his lawyers and management team.
In a direct challenge to him, Fury declared, “Everybody is done. If you’re a man, and if you’ve got any sort of dignity and pride about you, you’ll get this contract signed today. This is it. There is no more days, weeks, months, you’ve had the contract now for over two weeks and you still haven’t signed it.
“Show the public that you’re really the big coward that I know you are, and don’t sign it. I don’t care either way if you sign it or you don’t, it makes no difference to me at all. You’re a beaten man and I’m a world champion. I’m chucking you a massive bone, but I know I can punch a face in so I’m willing to give you an opportunity.

Dillian Whyte says he’d be happy to fight Joshua in December if his proposed fight with Fury doesn’t get made
“There’s nothing more to do, everyone is happy. Get your team onto mine, they will be available all day, like they’ve been available the last two weeks. Get this contract signed!
“Let the British fans have what they want. There is no running, you have to fight me. You cannot escape. The Fury is coming.”
But Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has told Sky Sports that he is ‘quite baffled’ by Fury’s latest ultimatum, with ‘positive conversations’ still ongoing between both promotional teams.
“I don’t want to get involved with back and forths that are going to negatively impact this fight being made, but to be honest, we are quite baffled by the situation,” said Hearn.
“Firstly, when we agreed terms for the fight, it took us over a week to receive a draft contract. We have not had that contract for 14 days.
Image: Eddie Hearn is still attempting to finalise the Fury vs Joshua fight
“Over the next week, we’ve worked tirelessly and had a number of meetings with Queensberry to get the contract in some kind of decent shape. Last Monday, we sent our final draft of the contract to Queensberry, only to see that Tyson Fury had publicly pulled out of the fight and it was no longer on the table.
“Yesterday we then received comments back from Queensberry on our final draft of the agreement, of which is now being reviewed.
“I’m not sure why Tyson Fury keeps setting unrealistic deadlines whilst also offering the fight to a number of other heavyweights for the selected date. If he is serious about the fight being made, I suggest he allows Matchroom and Queensberry to keep working hard to make the fight, of which everyone has been trying hard to do.
“You can’t publicly keep pulling out of a fight and then restart negotiations when there has been so many positive conversations had. We’ll see what happens from here.”
Usyk expects to fight Fury early next year
Anthony Joshua is no longer a world champion after losing the IBF, WBO and WBA titles to Oleksandr Usyk last year.
Usyk defended his unified championship when he won last month’s rematch against Joshua.
The Ukrainian star was initially Fury’s target for an undisputed title clash. But when Usyk revealed that injury would prevent him boxing again this year, the WBC titlist’s attention shifted to the negotiations with Joshua.
Usyk’s team however believes that his fight with Fury will still happen.
Alexander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, told Sky Sports that: “There won’t be Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.”
He expects Fury to be Usyk’s next fight early in 2023.

Late last month, Decentraland, one of the world’s largest metaverse solutions with over half a million active monthly users, presented the 3rd edition of its annual Metaverse Art Week. Featuring art world mainstays such as Sotheby’s, ArtNet and Frida Khalo, the event, curated under the theme ‘The World is Made of Code’, presented art of new and old, high and low, mainstream and cutting edge, all together within the immersive digital context of the metaverse. Below, we spotlight the five standout moments from the event.
The Art Plaza

On behalf of the Decentraland Foundation, over a dozen artists exhibited their work in the virtual ‘outdoor sculpture garden’ of the Art Plaza. The Soho plaza district was transformed by this exhibition featuring some of the largest scale and highest fidelity works ever seen in Decentraland. The Plaza, Which remains on view for the next year, features 3D sculptures and video works by industry leaders, including Krista Kim, legendary image-maker Nick Knight x SHOWstudio, and Lady Gaga’s creative Director Nicola Formichetti, among many others.
Artnet

Artnet, one of the largest online art communities founded over 30 years ago as the first art platform online in the world, chose to explore the idea of “the metaverse through performance art, live poetry, and AI art” during this year’s Metaverse Art Week. In collaboration with many renowned artists, various art experiences happened across a variety of venues during the week. An auditorium hosted panel discussions around the future of art and technology, and they even shared limited artist wearables that were given away throughout the event.
Known Origin

Known Origin presented an awe-inspiring set of activations in their own gallery, including a virtual installation called “Crypto Winter,” an amusing activation that reflected upon the vulnerability of the crypto market, as well as a curated exhibition. On top of being the venue of the virtual ‘opening party’ of this year’s art week, it was also a standout as one of the most visually stunning immersive exhibitions presented this year.
Estée Lauder
Estée Lauder continued their ongoing innovations at the intersection of beauty, art, and technology for the occasion of Metaverse Art Week with an exclusive POAP experience designed by Dr. Alex Box, renowned identity designer and pioneer of Beauty Futurism. Inspired by the legacy of visionary founder Mrs. Estée Lauder, the POAP by Box was available for attendees to collect. Those who managed to find and claim one of these POAPs will be able to garner access to future Web3 activations from the Estée Lauder brand.
Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s celebrated Metaverse Art Week with the debuting of multiple new art collaborations, their new metaverse permanent collection, and the launch of the first jewelry sculpture in the metaverse in collaboration with Metagolden. This piece, set to be included in an upcoming physical Sotheby’s auction, will be breaking down auction house stereotypes as allowing a “phygital” lot in this sale was very forward thinking of Sotheby’s and speaks to their investment in the digital realm moving forward. According to Francine Ballard, founder of Metagolden:
“For our part, we have been pairing luxury physical products with digital assets since we entered the Web3 space in 2021. However, this sale will provide an interesting use case in terms of how the two can be resold together on the secondary market, as we plan to expand our offerings from jewellery and art into fashion utilising open commerce infrastructure. Our newest collection, HW3 (House of Web3) is co-founded by some of the biggest and brightest names from the physical and digital fashion spheres combined, and will debut to a very select group in October.”

Cardano Crypto Price Prediction Can ADA Reach $5 By 2023? Cryptonews
Cardano Crypto Price Prediction – Can ADA Reach $5 By 2023? – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cardano-crypto-price-prediction-can-ada-reach-5-by-2023-cryptonews/
The price of Cardano (ADA) has risen by 2% in the past 24 hours, reaching $0.436895. This represents a 1% dip in a week and a 9% fall in a fortnight, with the macroeconomic backdrop of high inflation, rising interest rates and a potential global recession weighing down the altcoin’s movement.
However, these external pressures aside, ADA’s fundamentals remain in good shape. And with the altcoin decidedly oversold and undervalued at the present moment in time, there’s a very good chance it could lock in some substantial gains in the medium-to-long term.
Indeed, not only does $1 seem like a realistic medium-term objective, but the more distant future could see ADA reach $5, assuming that Cardano posts some substantial organic growth.
Cardano Crypto Price Prediction
ADA’s current level of $0.436895 means that it’s 85.5% down from its all-time high of $3.08, set back in September 2021. This is a relatively large comedown, but it’s actually slightly smaller than the retreats from ATHs seen with SOL (87%), DOT (88%) and AVAX (88%).
ADA’s indicators confirm that it’s on a low ebb right now. Its relative strength index (purple) has fallen to 40, while its 30-day moving average (red) is well below its 200-day average (blue).
Both of these indicators signal that ADA is oversold right now, and going at a discount. They also suggest that, in the short-term, we could expect to see the ADA price move up a little, particularly after recent falls.
Looking at recent benchmarks, its seven-day high of $0.475899 suggests that it could post a 9% increase from its price at the time of writing. Even better, its 30-day high of $0.521808 indicates a potential gain of 19.6%, assuming a proportional upswing.
Turning to the medium and longer term, Cardano’s fundamentals leave every reason to believe that ADA could enjoy substantial price gains towards the end of 2022 and into the start of 2023.
Most importantly, Cardano continues to see the steady development of its capabilities and ecosystem. Last week, it implemented the important Vasil upgrade/fork, something which will improve its scalability, while also make dapp development easier and more efficient.
The Vasil hard fork is only the latest in a fairly long line of updates stretching back at least as far as last September (when Cardano introduced smart contracts), all of which are contributing towards making Cardano a more secure and capable network.
Judging by the numbers, developers seem to agree that Cardano has considerable potential as a blockchain network. For instance, the latest figures put the number of projects building on Cardano at 1,107, while 99 projects have already launched, in addition to over 3,000 Plutus scripts (i.e. smart contracts) running on the network.
Of course, Cardano’s total value locked in remains relatively low, at $78m, yet this number has held relatively steady throughout 2022’s bear market. In other words, no one is abandoning Cardano, with the declines in TVL predominantly caused by declines in the price of ADA.
That ADA is already the eighth-biggest cryptocurrency with Cardano’s TVL at only $78m is very, very promising. It suggests that, even with a modest increase in this TVL figure, ADA could post some significant gains in the coming months.
To take a simple example, if Cardano were to increase its TVL to $1 billion, ADA’s price could rise as high as $5.60. This assumes its price rising in direct proportion to TVL, which isn’t likely to happen, but it’s worth pointing out that Cardano TVL and ADA price rises/declines have been more or less proportional, if not 1:1.
Between the end of March and today, Cardano’s TVL dropped from $326 million to $78 million, a 76% decline. Across the same timeframe, the price of ADA dropped by about 60%.
The Next Bull Market
However, it’s possible that when the next bull market comes the price of ADA could surpass even $5.
That is, ADA’s high during the 2017/18 bull market was $1.18, while its (current) 2021 high was $3.08, representing a 161% increase from one record to another. Assuming a proportionate jump in the next bull market (whenever that may be), ADA would potentially rise to roughly $8.05.
This is perfectly feasible, yet the question remains as to when macroeconomic conditions will improve. This is difficult to answer, but what isn’t difficult to answer is that ADA is almost certainly undervalued right now in comparison to its ‘true’ worth.

SYDNEY — Alyssa Thomas and her United States teammates were tested for the first time in the World Cup by a physical Serbia team.
After a slow start, the Americans used a dominant run spanning the half to take control of the game and reach the semifinals again.
Thomas had 13 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists to help the U.S. beat Serbia 88-55 in the quarterfinals of the women’s World Cup on Thursday.
“I think you expect every team’s best punch in the first quarter,” Thomas said. “We just had to settle into the game and once we settled in, then we were really able to break away.”
Kelsey Plum scored 17 points and A’ja Wilson added 15 to lead the Americans (6-0) into the semifinals.
“They played super physical, more physical than we’ve seen the entire tournament,” Plum said. “Credit to them. I felt that early-on their pressure bothered us a little bit, but we were able to kind of get under control.”

The Americans had run through pool play, winning by 46.2 points per game and hadn’t faced any kind of challenge. Serbia (3-2) wasn’t afraid though, going right at the U.S. The Serbians scored the first basket of the game — marking the first time the Americans trailed in the tournament.
It was back-and-forth for the first 17 minutes, with the U.S. failing to go on any major run. Then, with 2:59 left in the half and the U.S. up by five, Kahleah Copper drove to the basket and was fouled. She landed hard on her hip and had to be helped off the court by the U.S. training staff. Copper, who has been a sparkplug for the U.S. in her first tournament, didn’t return.
“It’s too early to tell,” Reeve said of the extent of Copper’s injury. “We’re getting her some imaging and we’ll have information later.”
Plum replaced Cooper and hit the two free throws, starting a 12-0 run to close the half as the Americans led 50-33 at the break. Thomas had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the opening 20 minutes.
The U.S. extended its run to 20 straight points in the third quarter before Serbia finally ended a nearly 8 1/2 minutes drought with a 3-pointer by Yvonne Anderson. That cut the deficit to 22 points. Serbia didn’t get much closer after that.
Anderson led Serbia with 14 points.
Betnijah Laney went down hard early in the fourth quarter on a put-back. She left the game and sat on the bench for the rest of the game.
“She took a hard fall,” Reeve said. “She was in the locker room afterwards and I think in her case it was a little more of it took the wind out of her.”
The victory was the 28th in a row in World Cup play for the Americans, who haven’t lost since the 2006 semifinals against Russia. The Soviet Union holds the World Cup record with 56 straight wins from 1959-86.
After going unbeaten in pool play again, the U.S. reached at least the semifinals for the 12th consecutive tournament, dating to 1975. That year completed a cycle in which the Americans lost 14 games combined in four tournaments. They’ve only lost five games since.
PICASSO IT WAS NOT
The U.S. had dominated the paint even without Brittney Griner, outscoring its opponents by an average of 60.8-24.4 in pool play. Serbia held a 20-16 advantage at the half and ended up outscoring the Americans 28-26 in the game by constantly having two or three players inside to clog up the middle.
“It’s one of those things you got to live with,” Wilson said. “Hopefully these next couple of games we can get back to owning the paint. Serbia did a great job of locking it down.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE WATCH
Thomas, who had a triple-double in each of the last two games in the WNBA Finals, fell just short again of getting the first one at the World Cup since Erika Dobrovicova in 1994 for the Slovak Republic against Spain. Assists and rebounds weren’t kept before 1994. Thomas had 14 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the opener against Belgium.
TIP-INS
Jewell Loyd returned to the U.S. starting lineup a game after resting according to the team. She had eight points.

The U.S. goes for its fourth consecutive title at the FIBA World Cup in Sydney — and eighth global gold in a row overall when including the Olympics.
A’ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP, and Breanna Stewart, the Tokyo Olympic MVP, headline a U.S. roster that, for the first time since 2000, includes neither Sue Bird (retired) nor Diana Taurasi (injured).
The new-look team includes nobody over the age of 30 for the first time since 1994, before the U.S. began its dynasty at the 1996 Atlanta Games. The Americans have won 52 consecutive games between worlds and the Olympics dating to the 2006 Worlds bronze-medal game.
The field also includes host Australia, the U.S.’ former primary rival, and Olympic silver medalist Japan.
Nigeria, which played the U.S. the closest of any foe in Tokyo (losing by nine points), isn’t present after its federation withdrew the team over governance issues. Spain, ranked second in the world, failed to qualify.

Tokyo Olympian Derrick Mein became the first U.S. male shooter to win a world title in the trap event since 1966, prevailing at the world shotgun championships in Osijek, Croatia, on Wednesday.
Mein, who grew up on a small farm in Southeast Kansas, hunting deer and quail, nearly squandered a place in the final when he missed his last three shots in the semifinal round after hitting his first 22. He rallied in a sudden-death shoot-off for the last spot in the final by hitting all five of his targets.
He hit 33 of 34 targets in the final to win by two over Brit Nathan Hales with one round to spare.
The last U.S. man to win an Olympic trap title was Donald Haldeman in 1976.
Mein, 37, was 24th in his Olympic debut in Tokyo (and placed 13th with Kayle Browning in the mixed-gender team event).
The U.S. swept the Tokyo golds in the other shotgun event — skeet — with Vincent Hancock and Amber English. Browning took silver in women’s trap.

Light Science Technology Shares Surge On Contract And Trial News | Financial News – London South East https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/light-science-technology-shares-surge-on-contract-and-trial-news-financial-news-london-south-east/
(Alliance News) – Light Science Technologies PLC on Thursday said it has received additional orders from an existing customer as well as signed two trials for its new sensorGROW product.
Shares in the Derbyshire, England-based agricultural lighting and monitoring systems provider were trading 9.6% higher at 7.40 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
Light Science Technologies also operates in the pest control and oil and gas sectors. It received additional orders worth GBP500,000 from Rentokil Initial PLC, a pest control company, in addition to existing forward order contracts. The new orders are expected to be fulfilled between November 2022 and March 2023.
The company said that its contract electronics manufacturing division – which formed its partnership with Rentokil over 10 years ago – continues to grow in line with expectations, driven by a strong demand for UK manufacturing in light of supply chain disruption.
The controlled environmental agriculture division has signed two trial contracts for the recently launched sensorGROW product. The company said that if these trials are successful, they could generate subscriptions worth GBP940,000.
sensorGROW was launched in June 2022 and its technology enables farmers to monitor key growing factors such as CO2 levels, light and soil pH levels in real time. The company said the sensorGROW product provides an additional high-margin route to market.
Chief Executive Officer Simon Deacon said: “We are delighted that Rentokil has chosen to increase its forward orders with us, as it shows our commitment to quality and high levels of service. This contract demonstrates the continued demand for UK manufacture, as we see customers focus on maintaining mid-term supply chain as well as controlling costs.
“I am also pleased to see confirmation of several sensorGROW trial contracts and expect more to be forthcoming. This demonstrates how growers see the importance of combining intelligence and increasing productivity to maximise yields within their indoor growing environments in a time when energy efficiency is crucial.”

Australia Flags Tough New Data Protection Laws This Year – 69News WFMZ-TV https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/australia-flags-tough-new-data-protection-laws-this-year-69news-wfmz-tv/
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia could have tough new data protection laws in place this year in an urgent response to a cyberattack that stole from a telecommunications company the personal data of 9.8 million customers, the attorney-general said Thursday.
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus said the government would make “urgent reforms” to the Privacy Act following the unprecedented hack last week on Optus, Australia’s second-largest wireless carrier.
Dreyfus said “I think it’s possible” for the law to be changed in the four remaining weeks that Parliament is scheduled to sit this year.
“I’m going to be looking very hard over the next four weeks at whether or not we can get reforms to the Privacy Act into the Parliament before the end of the year,” Dreyfus told reporters. Parliament next sits on Oct. 25.
Dreyfus said penalties for failing to protect personal data had to be increased so that corporate boards could not dismiss fines as a “cost of doing business.”
The “absolutely huge amounts” of customer data companies held for years would have to be justified under the amended law, Dreyfus said.
“Companies need to look at data storage not as an asset, but as a liability or a potential liability,” Dreyfus said. “For too long we have had companies solely looking at data as an asset that they can use commercially.”
The government blames lax cybersecurity at Optus, a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., also known as Singtel, for the theft of current and former customers’ personal information.
The data included passport, driver’s license and national health care identification numbers which could be used for identity theft and fraud.
Authorities are critical of Optus’ initial failure to disclose that Medicare numbers were among the stolen data. That became apparent Tuesday when the hacker dumped the records of 10,000 customers on the dark web — six days after Optus discovered the cyberattack.
The urgent legislative response is separate from a broader review of the Privacy Act that began three years ago. The law was passed in 1988 and critics argue it badly needs to be adapted to the digital age.
Optus could potentially be fined a maximum 2 million Australian dollars ($1.3 million) for breaching the Privacy Act, the government said.
It could be fined hundreds of millions of dollars over a similar security breach under European Union laws, the government said.
Submissions to the Privacy Act review have suggested penalties for breaches equivalent to 10% of revenue from Australian operations.
Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin has argued against increased fines, telling the Australian Broadcasting Corp. on Tuesday: “Honestly, I’m not sure what penalties benefit anybody.”
Optus maintains it was the target of a sophisticated cyberattack that penetrated several layers of security.
After an emergency meeting with banking and consumer regulators, Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones said “fraudsters” and “scammers” were already beginning to use the stolen data, which includes phone numbers and email addresses.
With personal information stolen from 38% of Australia’s population of 26 million in the hack, “you can’t overestimate the impact of this breach on consumer issues,” Jones said.
He warned compromised Optus customers against activating URLs they receive by text or email because they could be from criminals attempting to steal more information.
“We’re all working as best as we can to try and work our way through the long tail of problems that is going to be a consequence of this massive data breach,” Jones said.

We find ourselves at a time where disease once found in the elderly is now seen at a much younger age. This paradox is despite the plethora of information, advanced investigations and treatment options. It makes room to ponder if parameters we aim to correct just happen to account for only the tip of the ‘disease iceberg’.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) account for 17.9 million deaths annually worldwide. These diseases are associated with risk factors that are non-modifiable (E.g.: Age, sex, ethnicity and family history) and modifiable (Hypertension, smoking, diabetes, dyslipidemia, physical inactivity, poor diet, sub optimal sleep and stress). It is said that bulk of CVD is preventable if the modifiable risk factors are corrected.
A strict discipline in lifestyle choices complemented by pills and procedures where warranted should be the norm rather that ignoring the former and relying on the belief that all solutions lie in the latter!
In order to fix what went wrong it pays to go back to the drawing board and understand the design and purpose of the marvelously bioengineered human body. The fundamental purpose of the design was to adapt to survive. The physiological adaptation is immediate whereas genetic adaptations are over millions of years. Majority of the modern day diseases stem due to the consequence of ignoring the human design in areas of diet, physical activity, sleep and stress management. The scope of this article due to space constraints will address only key principles of these four pillars of healthy lifestyle.
1.Diet:
There is an abundance of dietary advice in medical literature. However there is no single solution that fits all! The human design accounted for famine by facilitating storage. The time of abundance led to overeating resulting in high glucose levels and consequently a response by the body producing high insulin levels to neutralize and store it. Both excess glucose and insulin harms the body resulting in an inflammatory and clot prone environment, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and even cancers to name a few ill effects!
More harmful than glucose is fructose that makes up 50% of dietary sugar. Liver is the organ that metabolises fructose. Dietary overburdening with fructose damages the liver. There are proponents and opponents when it comes to the effects of dietary cholesterol and saturated fats so due diligence is advised. What however is universally agreed upon are to avoid over eating, sugar, processed food, trans fats and higher omega 6 content. The practical ways to give the body a break from high insulin levels is by reducing frequency of meals and have a food free interval (intermittent fasting or time restricted feeding). Time restricted feeding or intermittent fasting is an option which has to be done in consultation with a physician as it is not for everyone (E.g.: Type I diabetics, elderly, children and those with eating disorders). Remember that different substance of equal calories is not processed by the body alike e.g.: 100 calories from carrot is more favourably processed as opposed to 100 calories from a sugar sweetened beverage. Plan calories from a balanced diet to sustain an ideal body weight for height.
2.Exercise:
Many consider exercise as a tool to reduce weight and build muscle. Exercise is complementary to diet management in the treatment of obesity. The benefits of exercise can be offset if there suboptimal diet planning. Four aspects need to be addressed when comprehensive exercise is planned.
A) Aerobic activity: Minimum requirement is 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity (where one can talk but not sing during the activity) ideally spaced as half hour over 5 days. Inactive people or those with diseases should seek expert opinion, start slow and gradually achieve the target.
B) Resistance training: Building the major muscles of the upper and lower limbs, chest back and abdomen. Minimum 10 repetition of 2 sets twice a week.
C) Stretching: To be done across all major joints. Hold each stretch for 15 seconds with 4 repetitions.
D) Balance: Exercise like Yoga or Tai Chi to stabilize posture.
Exercise helps in increasing insulin sensitivity, decrease insulin resistance, stress reduction and has anti- cancer benefits besides its role in weight reduction.
3.Sleep:
It is a physiological requirement during which there is eliminations of toxin and DNA repair. Sleep requirement is poorly addressed issue in the era of 24 x 7 over 365 days work culture. Poor sleep is associated with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, mood disorders and cancers. 7 hrs of sleep is optimal. Strategies for a good sleep include using the bed for sleep only, having a regular sleep and wake up cycle routine, maintain ideal room temperature, warm shower before sleep, less noise, avoid late night snacks, salty food, caffeinated beverages at night, avoid exposure to bright light and blue light before sleep which result in melatonin suppression. Practice listening to light music and wind down from concerns to restfulness. Sub optimal sleep can be treated in consultation with experts. It may be addressed by modifying behaviours, dealing with anxieties and when indicated with medications.
4.Stress: Stress is a response to a perceived threat that can be genuine or assumed. Acute stress prepares one to respond to genuine threat and will settle once the threat is addressed. Chronic stress can escalate to substance abuse, anxiety and depression. Subsequently it can lead to cardiovascular diseases. Seek expert help. Make Lifestyle changes that focus on inner strength that comes from the understanding that the creator makes his creation perfect with all talents to discharge the purpose of being created and your value and legacy comes with serving these talents. Stop comparison with others whose talents and therefore purpose is different. Renew thinking and practice response that brings peace and joy rather than reacting in stress. Derive happiness from completing small productive tasks, social service motivated by love for fellow humans and do exercise to reduce stress. Seek professional help for substance abuse de-addiction. For example success of quitting smoking is 5% at 6 months for chronic smokers without assistance as opposed to 58% at 6 months for those within a de-addiction program with behavior modification, peer support and medications. Medication for anxiety and depression will be added when the necessary criteria is met.
The above strategies are general approaches for healthy living and it has to be tuned by an expert based on individual requirements. Periodical medical check-ups and seeking medical attention when symptomatic favours early detection of disease and facilitate appropriate treatment. Examples of cardiac symptoms include chest pain, breathing difficulties, fast heart beating, fainting, leg swelling and pain.
The proverbial heart of the literature is beyond the organ that functions as a pump. It is the lifestyle attained by series of choices made consequent to exposure and experience of situations in life and is a part of the subconscious mind. Therefore, on the occasion of the world heart day on 29th September, in line with the theme this year “use heart for every heart”, may the practice of the above hearty principles that is derived from medical literature and years of personal experience guide all to a healthy living.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — The administrators who’ve been given the task of expanding the College Football Playoff from four to 12 teams left their latest in-person meetings outside Chicago with the biggest question unanswered: How soon? The CFP management committee is scheduled to convene again Oct. 20 in Dallas. The members expect to get some work done before then by video conference. But whether the logistical hurdles can be cleared to implement a new format as soon as 2024 is unclear. The playoff will definitely expand by 2026, but the management committee has been tasked with trying to flip the format for the 2024 and ’25 seasons.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Illinois’ Bret Bielema wants to keep the focus off himself as the former Wisconsin coach returns to Camp Randall Stadium with an opposing team for the first time since his surprising exit a decade ago. Bielema posted a 68-24 record at Wisconsin from 2006-12 before leaving to take over Arkansas’ program at the end of the 2012 regular season as the Badgers were preparing to play in the Rose Bowl. Bielema’s departure caused hard feelings among Wisconsin’s fan base that might become apparent Saturday when the Fighting Illini visit the Badgers.
UNDATED (AP) — For a few ranked teams, the first month of the season was all about home sweet home. No. 4 Michigan, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 15 Washington will play their first road games of the season this weekend. The Cowboys have a big one against Big 12 rival and No. 16 Baylor. The Wolverines and Huskies face unranked but potentially formidable conference foes in the year’s first road trips. Michigan goes to Iowa and Washington faces UCLA on a short week. Their first road tests are among this week’s five most intriguing games.
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern unveiled plans to build a new Ryan Field and replace the current 97-year-old football stadium with a state-of-the-art facility featuring a reduced seating capacity and greater emphasis on the fan experience. The school said the stadium would seat 35,000, down more than 12,000 from the current Ryan Field, and feature a canopy designed to keep noise and light focused on the field. It would include cutting-edge technology and scoreboards, as well as concessions with food from local restaurants. Northwestern said the stadium would achieve Gold LEED certification, and “set a new standard” for accessibility. The plan calls for plazas outside, a community park and other green spaces. Northwestern said it is also considering hosting “a limited number” of concerts.
UNDATED (AP) — The early portion of the season hasn’t exactly gone smoothly for the Big Ten. No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 11. Penn St. and No. 21. Minnesota are all 4-0 with some impressive nonconference wins. It has been a bit dicey for the rest of the conference. It’s fair to wonder if the top teams might be in for some headaches late in the year. After all, strength of schedule could come into play if they are jockeying for College Football Playoff berths and spots in New Year’s Six bowls.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State announced that beer will be available for sale to the general public at Beaver Stadium beginning Saturday when the Nittany Lions host Northwestern. Penn State becomes the ninth Big Ten school to sell beer to the general public at football games. The ones that don’t are Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Beer will be sold in all areas of the stadium, except near the student section. Fans can buy two cans of beer at one time, and sales will stop at the end of the third quarter.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is getting creative with a deep unit that’s built to create game-changing plays. So far, nearly 30 players have rotated in and out of a unit that’s fourth nationally in turnover margin at plus-8. Diaz’s defense has recovered five fumbles and picked off four passes and the Nittany Lions lead the country with 41 pass breakups, 16 more than second-place Illinois. Eleventh-ranked Penn State will put its solid defensive foundation to the test when it faces Big Ten rival Northwestern on Saturday.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland lost 34-27 to No. 4 Michigan. But there was a lot of progress in that defeat for a program that’s been average at best by Big Ten standards. This was against a team the Terrapins lost to by 41 points last year. This time they had the ball and a chance to tie the game with 6:28 remaining. Now Maryland needs to use October to build on that progress. The Terps face Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana and Northwestern. Those are all winnable games, and three of them are at home.
