Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Live By These Healthy Habits – Eat This, Not That https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/ashton-kutcher-and-mila-kunis-live-by-these-healthy-habits-eat-this-not-that/ Real talk: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are couple goals in more ways than one. Kutcher is gearing up for the 2022 New York City Marathon and lost around 12 pounds while doing it, with a solid support system right by his side. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he reveals, “The biggest change physically has been the transfer of muscle mass from upper body to lower body. I’ve lost about 12 lbs. … my wife [Mila Kunis] has been super supportive” (via PEOPLE). Overall, the couple’s lifestyle game is totally on point. If you didn’t already know, their gorgeous Beverly Hills modern farmhouse is complete with a sleek barbecue pavilion, a stunning pool, and a solar-powered farm that’s absolutely bursting with fresh vegetables, according to PEOPLE. After learning all about it, you’ll want to move in and put your green thumb to good use! Growing your own vegetable garden is a total game-changer when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, and Kutcher and Kunis clearly understand that. With fresh veggies conveniently located in your own backyard, you know exactly where the meals you consume came from. So if you’re curious about this celeb powerhouse couple’s “fully sustainable” farm and the healthy habits they live by, keep reading to learn more. Matt Winkelmeyer / Staff / Getty Images It all started with the couple’s strong, wholesome values and a dream. “Ashton and Mila are concerned about the quality of the soil, the purity of the food they eat and the water they drink. The ideals of sustainability and regenerative farming aren’t just abstract concepts to them,” says the couple’s architect, Howard Backen (via Architectural Digest). Kunis shares in a cover story with C Magazine the couple’s excitement, saying, “We had this grand idea, and then we moved in four months before COVID hit,” adding, “We didn’t realize how incredible it was to have a fully sustainable house until the world shut down” (via PEOPLE). Talk about perfect timing! The stunning property is complete with apple trees and a bountiful veggie garden filled with lettuce, tomatoes, squash, and other sheer goodness (via PEOPLE). And that’s not the only very cool thing about the couple’s digs. Wanting “a home, not an estate,” as Kunis puts it, their farm is totally solar-powered, and the wood used is apparently recycled from an old Wonder Bread factory! Kutcher reveals to Architectural Digest, “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant.” He also says of their abode, “To feel tranquility in a space, everything needs to be in order. If the world around you isn’t in order, it’s hard to get your brain in order. When we’re in our home, the world just makes sense.” Related: Elon Musk, 51, Has Healthy, Fit Habits You’ll Want To Copy Being in charge of what you put into your body comes with a lot of responsibility. By tending to your own backyard garden—complete with fresh herbs, veggies, and fruits—you’re opening yourself up to a wealth of positive opportunities, specifically being the decision maker on what pesticides and fertilizers come into contact with the food you grow (via Harvard Health Publishing). Having fresh tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, peppers, basil, and more readily available also makes it seamless to add healthy foods to your daily meals. According to Dr. Helen Delichatsios, an internist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital, we should all learn some planting skills. “Backyard gardening can inspire you to take an interest in the origins of your food and make better choices about what you put on your plate,” Dr. Delichatsios says, adding, “When you grow your own food, you savor it more because of the effort it took to get to the table.” This celeb couple’s solar-powered home benefits their overall health and also the environment. Using natural energy protects our ecosystems and all living things! Dubbing themselves “the Kukus,” the pair makes gardening fun family time, recruiting help from their daughter and son, Wyatt, 7; and Dmitri, 5. Kunis admits, “My husband’s from the Midwest, and a lot of this has to do with his upbringing. He’s like, we’re building a farm and we’re all going to work on the farm.” She adds, “I’m from L.A., and I was like, we are? This has been a big learning curve for all of us.” Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis teach their children to “understand the value of a tomato and how much work goes into growing it,” Kunis explains, adding, “Whether it’s learning something new, doing something a little bit scary—all of that makes you stronger” (via PEOPLE). In Cleveland there was a cheating scandal at a Walleye tournament and now this… Voter fraud has been discovered in an annual tournament to determine the fattest bear in southern Alaska.  Fortunately, officials caught it, and discarded the bad votes, and the correct bear advanced to the next round. See, they didn’t try to take over the capitol! At long last, Brett Favre has finally addressed the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal that he’s been referenced in. In a statement to Fox News Favre says he’s been “unjustly smeared by the media,” “has done nothing wrong,” and adds that it’s “time to set the record straight.” He couldn’t have done it, he was only in town to play the Dolphins…. All of the talk these days in the NFL is the roughing the quarterback penalties. Apparently the NFL will address the issue in the offseason. In other words, don’t touch the quarterback for the remainder of the season. Especially if it’s Tom Brady! Monday night’s questionable roughing the passer call in the Chiefs/Raiders game was a result of commentary from Troy Aikman. Aikman said, ““My hope is the competition committee looks at this at the next set of meetings, and we take the dresses off,” adding “I’m all for player safety, but the protection on the quarterbacks has gotten to a ridiculous level.” It was the “dresses” comment that set people off, calling it “sexist,” “misogynistic,” and “completely uncalled for.” It’s week 6 in the NFL, time for our first version of which coach is on the hot seat Matt Rhule of the Carolina Panthers was fired on Monday Here’s a list of who could be next. * Ron Rivera (Washington Commanders) – He’s 1-4 on the year, and 15-23 during his tenure with the team. He’s got to turn his defense around if he’s going to save his gig. * Frank Reich (Indianapolis Colts) – In his fifth season with the team, he’s 2-2-1 and 39-30-1 overall. He’s been to the playoffs twice during his time in Indy, but expectations have still yet to be met. Getting control of Matt Ryan’s turnovers would be a big help. * Kliff Klingsbury (Arizona Cardinals) – He’s in his fourth season and is 2-3 on the year and 26-27-1 overall. The “offensive genius” has shown “average” results on the field. Hopefully, the return of DeAndre Hopkins in Week 7 will help his cause. * Lovie Smith (Houston Texans) – This is his first year with Houston, and he’s 1-3-1. He’s got a five-year deal, but ownership and fans are going to demand success sooner rather than later. He’s got his team playing hard, but heart doesn’t always equal wins. * Kevin Stefanski (Cleveland Browns) – He’s 2-3 in his third season, and 21-17 overall. The QB roller coaster with team hasn’t been his fault, so ownership might wait a year to see how the whole Deshaun Watson deal plays out. * Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions) – In his second season, he’s 1-4 and 4-17-1 overall. He was a hit on “Hard Knocks” and has an addictive and passionate personality. That said, Detroit has a reputation for futility that needs to be reversed, and another three-win season won’t cut it. 10 Marvel Comics Wakanda Forever Should Pull From CBR Comic Book Resources
10 Marvel Comics Wakanda Forever Should Pull From CBR Comic Book Resources
10 Marvel Comics Wakanda Forever Should Pull From – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/10-marvel-comics-wakanda-forever-should-pull-from-cbr-comic-book-resources/ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the most anticipated upcoming superhero film of the year. Since the sudden passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, who nailed the role as King T’Challa, fans have been curious if the second Black Panther film would be just as entertaining as the first one. With T’Challa being the most prominent character to carry the Black Panther mantle, many Marvel Comicsand MCU fans may wonder how the story can go on without him. Thankfully, Marvel houses some amazing ongoing series and miniseries that the Wakanda Forever filmmakers can pull from to keep the Black Panther legacy alive while giving T’Challa a proper sendoff and introducing Namor and Atlantis to the MCU. 10/10 Shuri’s First Run As Black Panther Black Panther Vol. 4 By Reginald Hudlin, Ken Lashley & J. Scott Campbell Shuri was nominated by the queen, Storm, to take on the Black Panther mantle while T’Challa was in a coma recovering from Doctor Doom’s attack. The panther goddess Bast tells Shuri that she was not worthy of the powers. Regardless of Bast’s rejection, Shuri dons the Black Panther mantle anyway to protect Wakanda from Morlun. While fans are not sure how T’Challa’s death will be handled in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, there are great expectations for Shuri to take on the Black Panther mantle. Doom may not make an appearance in the MCU just yet, but his attack on T’Challa can inspire the character’s death in the film. 9/10 Fantastic Four Shows Namor’s Hatred Of The Surface World Fantastic Four #147-149 By Gerry Conway, Rich Buckler, Joe Sinnott & Linda Lessmann The Fantastic Four has yet to make their MCU debut as a team but their connection to Namor could provide a great backstory for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After finding a nuclear device polluting the oceans, Namor decided that the surface world was the enemy because pollution was slowly destroying his home world. In retaliation, Namor used the sea monster Giganto to attack surface dwellers, but the Fantastic Four was able to defeat him. If pollution is used to express Namor’s hatred for the surface world in Wakanda Forever, it would be a conflict that realistically motivates Namor’s rage. Also, it would be cool to see Namor attack Wakanda while on the back of a beastly sea monster. 8/10 Namor’s Attack On Wakanda Avengers Vs. X-Men By Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker & more. Avengers vs. X-Men was one of the most exciting crossover events for Marvel Comics. In the series, Namor was one of the five members of the X-men who were possessed by the Phoenix Force. Under the influence of the Phoenix, Namor made his way to Wakanda and created a massive tidal wave, destroying almost all the nation. Comic fans have been looking forward to Namor appearing in the MCU for a while now, and many are curious to see how he makes a splash in Wakanda Forever. With the Phoenix Force played out in the X-Men films, Namor’s attack on Wakanda will most likely take a different turn in the movie. 7/10 Shuri’s Retaliation Against Namor New Avengers Vol. 3 #7 By Jonathan Hickman, Mike Deodato, Frank Martin Jr. & Rain Beredo Following his relief from the Phoenix Force, Namor looks to T’Challa to make peace for their respective nations to move on. As fellow members of the Illuminati, T’Challa agreed to make peace with Namor but Queen Shuri refused to forgive him. In response to Namor’s attack, Shuri initiated a virtual attack on Atlantis, leading to the death of a large population of Atlanteans. With the death of T’Challa and the possibility of a destroyed Atlantis, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will most-likely display some friction between Namor and Shuri, and this particular comic can be a great way to keep the hostility alive onscreen. 6/10 Riri Williams’s First Appearance As Ironheart Invincible Iron Man Vol. 3 #7 By Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deadato Jr. & Frank Martin Jr. Riri Williams will make her film debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With that in mind, it is going to be important for the film to point out how she became Ironheart. Riri created her own prototype of the Iron Man armor using stolen tech from M.I.T. Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgamecan result in Riri Williams’s inspiration to create the armor. Whether Riri was blipped or survived Thanos’s tumultuous snap, she was inspired by Iron Man in someway and Wakanda Forever will have to pull from the comics to properly introduce Ironheart. 5/10 Riri Meeting Shuri and The Dora Milaje In Wakanda Ironheart #9 By Eve Ewing, Geoffo, Matt Milla & Luciano Vecchio Though fans were excited to learn that Riri Williams was going to make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, there were some questions on how she even ended up in Africa. In the comics, Riri appeared in Wakanda and met Shuri. With the assistance of Okoye, they defeated shadow creatures. MCU fans are still unsure on how Riri ends up in Wakanda, but there is a theory out there that suggests that she’s there to study Wakandan tech. Whether Riri’s travel to Wakanda is inspired by the comics or there is a new reason in the film, fans are excited to see the two young geniuses fighting side-by-side. 4/10 Introducing The Midnight Angels As The Dora Milaje’s Strongest Warriors Doomwar By Jonathan Maberry, John Romita Jr., Scot George Eaton, Will Conrad, Dean White & Dennis Mallonee Within the latest trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans pointed out that the Dora Milaje’s Aneka appears to wear the Midnight Angels. During Marvel Comics’ Doomwar event, T’Challa prepared a subgroup of the strongest Dora Milaje members to fight against Doctor Doom and his robotic army using specialized weapons aside from the usual Wakandan tech. When fans saw actress Michaela Coel dressed in the Midnight Angels costume in her portrayal as the Dora Milaje’s Aneka, there were many posts about the appreciation of some of Dora Milaje’s greatest warriors from the comics. There may not be a war with Doom in the film, but the Dora Milaje are more than prepared to face-off with Atlanteans. 3/10 World Of Wakanda Could Explain Aneka’s Disappearance From The First Film Black Panther: World Of Wakanda By Roxane Gay, Alitha Martinez & Rachelle Rosenberg Aside from being assembled to fight Doom, there was another form of Midnight Angels in the comics. Initially, Aneka was the general of the Dora Milaje but was stripped of her position after killing an abusive chieftain from her village. With the help of her fellow Dora Milaje and lover Ayo, Aneka stole the Midnight Angels tech and formed a new version of the group to revolt against Wakanda. In the first Black Panther film, Aneka was not introduced as a member of the Dora Milaje but Ayo was. It would make sense if the film explains how Aneka left Wakanda for a similar reason as she did in the comics and return to her homeland to help fight against the Atlanteans. 2/10 Fear Itself Could Inspire A Revelation To Namor Fear Itself By Matt Fraction, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger & Laura Martin When word got out that Attuma would also be making his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans were shocked to see the character working well alongside Namor. During the crossover event Fear Itself, Attuma was transformed into Nerkkod: Breaker of the Oceans by one of the seven hammers of the worthy and destroyed Namor’s kingdom. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if it turns out that Namor’s concern for Atlantis turns out to be an inside job led by Attuma in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Attuma’s character arc may be changed for the movies, but that doesn’t stop fans from expecting to see him face the Sub-Mariner in an attempt to usurp the Atlantean crown. 1/10 Shuri Comics Display Her Self-Identity Shuri By Nnedi Okorafor, Leonardo Romero & Jordie Bellaire Within the entire Shuri series, Shuri achieved self-discovery after being overwhelmed with suddenly becoming Black Panther after T’Challa’s disappearance. Eventually, Shuri realized that she was able to take up the Black Panther mantle while being true to herself and used the advanced gadgets she created to upgrade the suit. Though Shuri may have taken on the Black Panther mantle for a short time before, her role in her self-titled comics is more compelling and dynamic. It would be awesome to see Shuri flying around with wings on her suit in the film, just as she does in her comic series. NEXT: 10 DC Comics Black Adam Should Pull From

Crypto Trader DonAlt Posts Bitcoin Price Prediction – ‘I’m Buying Now’ – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/crypto-trader-donalt-posts-bitcoin-price-prediction-im-buying-now-cryptonews/ DonAlt shared a new Bitcoin price prediction today to Twitter and YouTube, where he has a combined 469,000 followers including subscribers to the TechnicalRoundup YouTube channel. DonAlt (@CryptoDonAlt) stated he’s ‘buying now’ at around the $19,000 level, and is ‘always comfortable buying below $20,000’ – timestamp 14:10 in the below video.  He isn’t ruling out Bitcoin trading lower in the short term, in which case he’ll ‘buy more’ and add to his spot position – cautioning against using leverage with CPI data coming on Thursday. DonAlt streams live on the TechnicalRoundup channel each week alongside another popular trader @CryptoCred, who has 501,000 followers on Twitter. DonAlt Bitcoin Price Prediction – Crypto Twitter DonAlt’s rationale – shared by various other notable crypto Twitter accounts such as TraderSZ and CryptoISO – is that the markets have been so battered and beaten down, that a move to the upside is more likely at the current time. Even if only as a bear market rally to squeeze offside shorts, within the long term macro downtrend. His advice is to buy the dip on Bitcoin now when the market is ‘depressing’, as a better play than FOMO’ing into green candles and $100,000+ price targets shared by the most vocal Bitcoin bulls like Michael Saylor. DonAlt also tweeted that his ‘gut feeling for the trad markets’ (e.g. the S&P 500) is down, but that crypto would begin to decouple finally and move up. In the past few days Bitcoin has shown signs of resilience versus the SPX – while so far in 2022 that’s simply been a sign of cryptocurrency lagging behind, DonAlt is optimistic that the correlation between Bitcoin and stocks will come to an end. DonAlt’s new Bitcoin price prediction is notable with his wide following and since he accurately warned traders of the incoming bear market back around the November 2021 top. When Bitcoin printed an SFP (swing failure pattern) at the former $65,000 high, DonAlt tweeted along the lines of ‘see you guys in a year‘.  Then as the Bitcoin price began its now almost twelve month correction, DonAlt cautioned against opening a position, mostly remaining in cash – until now. Weekly timeframe Bitcoin price chart, source – TechnicalRoundup Later in his Bitcoin analysis video DonAlt marked out the price levels above. He mentioned that while he doesn’t think Bitcoin will reach $33k in the short term, by the first quarter of 2023, he doesn’t predict it will hit the $12 – $14k area either – a common price target of Bitcoin bears, and monthly support. His current Bitcoin price target is the $29,000 area where he will sell Bitcoin to derisk. Crypto Price Movements The Bitcoin price is currently testing the $19,200 level and up almost 1% in the past 24 hours, quickly recovering from two minor dips earlier today when PPI data and FOMC minutes were released. Given Bitcoin’s strength today, CryptoISO – who has 115,000 followers – expects it to rally tomorrow if the CPI has a ‘hint of anything positive’. Several altcoins we have been watching closely are back in the headlines – Tamadoge (TAMA) is up 29% in the past day on OKX exchange. Terra Classic is trending on new news that Binance has burned almost 3 billion LUNC from the circulating supply. The IMPT token presale is also nearing the $4 million raised mark. In a letter to National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan, Ernst writes: “The United States must continue to convene partners, reinforce security dialogue, and develop defense concepts to counter these growing threats. Security cooperation, diplomatic engagement, commercial development, and cultural exchange between Israel and the Gulf states—bolstered by the historic Abraham Accords—continues to grow. Integrated air and missile defense in the region has been a consistent initiative by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), with bipartisan support … Our roadmap is clear: the United States must continue to engage regional partners to counter common threats. “Disrupting this momentum delays partner capacity building, worsens regional security, and aids our adversaries. It also damages trust by conditioning regional security on resolution of broader political and energy disputes, a poor precedent. As the security partner of choice, the United States should reliably implement defense efforts and proceed with the U.S.-GCC integrated air and missile defense working group without delay.”   Ernst’s letter to Sullivan comes as the National Security Council is postponing the United States-Gulf Coordination Council Working Group meeting on integrated air and missile defense, previously scheduled for October 17. ###

Rite Aid Lands Major Technology Pact With Google Cloud Supermarket News
Rite Aid Lands Major Technology Pact With Google Cloud – Supermarket News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/rite-aid-lands-major-technology-pact-with-google-cloud-supermarket-news/ Rite Aid has entered a sweeping technology partnership with Google Cloud designed to give the drugstore, pharmacy care and health services company a more flexible, data-driven and efficient platform for growth and operations. Plans call for Google Cloud technologies to arm Philadelphia-based Rite Aid with sharper insights, more agility and enhances customer experiences, the companies said yesterday. Modernized applications for personalized digital experiences, too, will position Rite Aid’s over 6,400 pharmacists to spend more time interacting directly with patients. Under the multiyear agreement, Rite Aid is slated to migrate key applications to Google Cloud’s Anthos managed platform for application deployment. Those applications will include Rite Aid’s vaccine scheduling tool, customer messaging infrastructure and digital engagement platform. Google Cloud noted that Anthos with give Rite Aid pharmacies cloud computing capabilities on-site, enabling more resilient operations. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based tech giant said strategic business continuity will Rite Aid to continue to provide elevated care during natural disasters through robust patient information, advanced prescription management and the ability to offer recommendations without needing to be connected to centralized, legacy mainframe technology. More specifically, Rite Aid said, the Google Cloud partnership will help the company “realize its vision of a modern pharmacy.” “The power of pharmacies, and the important role pharmacists play in the health of their communities, greatly expanded during COVID. Realizing that potential means making strategic investments in technology that can truly help our customers and maximize the capabilities of our pharmacists,” according to Justin Mennen, executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer at Rite Aid. “Google Cloud’s solutions are uniquely positioned to run at each pharmacy location to allow our store teams to help our customers to achieve whole health for life.” Rite Aid In late 2020, Rite Aid unveiled its ‘pharmacy of the future’ concept that included an elevated role for pharmacists and stores offering a wider range of products and services to promote wellness. What’s more, Rite Aid has enlisted Google Cloud to drive digital transformations across other parts of its business. Those efforts include the following: • Enterprise data migration: Rite Aid will shift its enterprise data to Google Cloud using BigQuery. With the move, its pharmacies stand to have better insights into its finances, supply chain inventory and customer information, enabling data-driven decisions for business operations. • Enhanced search: Google Cloud’s Retail Search solution will give Rite Aid customers more precise search results when shopping on Rite Aid’s e-commerce site and mobile app. The improved search experience leverages Google-quality search models to understand customer intent and taps Rite Aid’s first-party data — such as promotions, available inventory and price — for product ranking results. • Updated PBM application suite: Elixir, Rite Aid’s pharmacy benefit management and services unit, will update its current PBM application suite to a cloud-first experience, with artificial intelligence and machine learning-infused business logic capabilities. New Google Cloud data analytics and processing capabilities will help the PBM better manage prescription benefits for health insurers, the companies said. “As a health care company with a retail footprint, Rite Aid is at the intersection of two quickly evolving industries and making strategic technology investments to meet rising customer expectations,” Carrie Tharp, vice president of retail and consumer solutions for Google Cloud, said in a statement. “Through these innovations, Rite Aid is defining the modern pharmacy.” The nation’s third-largest drugstore chain, Rite Aid totaled fiscal 2022 revenue of $24.57 billion. That included about $17.37 billion in its Retail Pharmacy business unit (front-end sales of $5.22 billion and pharmacy sales of $12.15 billion) plus roughly $7.2 billion in sales from its Pharmacy Services unit. Rite Aid follows a range of companies in the food, drug and mass channel partnering with cloud and IT services giants in recent years. Companies teaming up with Google include C&S Wholesale Grocers, Albertsons Cos., Hy-Vee and The Kroger Co., among other. Food, drug and mass retailers partnering with cloud and tech services rival Microsoft include Loblaw Cos., Kroger, Albertsons, Walmart, Costco Wholesale, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Giant Eagle. Amazon Inc.’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) subsidiary also has brought food and grocery players into a cloud-based computing architecture, including Instacart, Ocado, Sainsbury, HelloFresh and, of course, Amazon.com and Amazon Fresh.

Longtime County Judge Delivers Final State Of The County Address – Texas Public Radio https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/longtime-county-judge-delivers-final-state-of-the-county-address-texas-public-radio/ Published October 12, 2022 at 4:02 PM CDT Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff on Wednesday delivered his final State of the County Address after a remarkable 21 years in office as judge. His last term officially ends at midnight on Dec. 31. A who’s who of business and industry listened to his address during a San Antonio Chamber of commerce luncheon at the Grand Hyatt downtown. Wolff called for county leaders to continue to fund or support higher education, new public health initiatives, and diversified tech and advanced manufacturing. He also called for a blending of nature and urban lifestyle downtown and more sports and recreation opportunities. Then he said this about the future for his wife and himself: “So, as I leave this stage, I will not say farewell, but ask you to join Tracy and I in seeking to protect nature and taking our humanity to a higher level.” Wolff told Texas Public Radio before his speech that he felt some of his biggest accomplishments included the restoration of the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek, reforming criminal justice to save lives, rather than ruin them and the creation of the BiblioTech, or all-digital libraries, for which his wife Tracy has been a driving force. His address also touched on troubling trends in society and politics and even the meaning of life. “As insignificant as we are and blur of the moment we are here, there is meaning to life if we play a part in preserving nature and at the same time working to take our species to a higher level of humanity where civility is cherished, where bipartisanship is respected, where truth is rescued from the abyss of social media, where compromise is not considered weakness, and where rational decisions prevail over outrageous conspiratorial theories,” he said. Wolff, who turns 82 on Oct. 27, is only the second man to ever serve as both San Antonio Mayor and Bexar County Judge. The first was Bryan Callaghan, Jr., who served as mayor and county judge in the 1880s. Judge Wolff has endorsed former State District Court Judge Peter Sakai has his replacement. The Democrat faces Republican Trish DeBerry on Nov. 8th at the polls.

How You Can Get Paid To Visit A Part Of Italy By Train – Vancouver Is Awesome https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/how-you-can-get-paid-to-visit-a-part-of-italy-by-train-vancouver-is-awesome/ One area is also known as the ‘little Venice’ of Italy. Italy is a bucket list destination for many Canadian travellers — but they typically don’t enjoy fighting crowds or forking out big bucks to stay in accommodations in its most popular cities.  While tourist meccas like Rome, Florence, and Venice are typically more expensive, thrifty tourists can save even more money by visiting a less frequented region of the country.  Located in northeastern Italy, the picturesque Friuli Venezia Giulia borders Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea. A part of the region is known as the “little Venice” of Italy because of its canals, while other areas are coveted for their breathtaking alpine vistas.  The local Italian tourism board, PromoTurismoFVG, will reimburse travellers for the cost of transportation from anywhere in the country to the region until May 31, 2023, as part of an initiative to drive sustainable travel.  Visitors must book a package holiday that includes the train ticket as well as an overnight stay in any of the following cities and towns: Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine or Trieste. How to book the Italy experience Travellers may only book their vacation through a travel agency called Travel One Tour Operator to take advantage of the promotion. Tickets must arrive and/or depart from the following railway stations: Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, or Trieste Centrale, Udine station. The promotional package also includes the FVGcard: a card that offers discounts and free admission to many attractions, including guided tours and free access to museums, castles, and churches.  The FVGcard is also the Passport of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori (The Route of Wine and Flavours), which includes three free tastings with two glasses of wine. There are several round-trip tickets available from Vancouver to Venice for just over $900 CAD including all taxes and fees. However, you may want to start your European adventure elsewhere. Keep in mind that plane tickets within Europe are inexpensive, so if you fly into another city, such as Amsterdam, you can also take a cheap flight or a train ride to Italy.

State Poised To Extend Solar ‘Grandfathering’ Deadline, Governor Says – Arkansas Business Online https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/state-poised-to-extend-solar-grandfathering-deadline-governor-says-arkansas-business-online/ The Arkansas Advanced Energy Association got a couple of welcome surprises Wednesday at its annual emPOWER gathering in Little Rock. Along with networking time, industry discussions and awards presentations at the Clinton Presidential Center, the group of energy efficiency, renewable energy and performance contracting professionals received assurances from Gov. Asa Hutchinson that the state is prepared to extend net metering “grandfathering” rules that lock down the price solar array owners receive for the power they create over the lives of their systems. And Cody Waits, director of the Arkansas Office of Skills Development, announced a $2 million grant to the AAEA for a workforce development training program. “It’s huge,” said Heather Nelson, president of Seal Solar of North Little Rock and the trade group’s board chair. Hutchinson, who received the Ron Bell Award for individual contributions to advanced energy in Arkansas, assured the group that the state is poised to extend rules governing net metering rates for solar energy that customers’ systems return to the grid. “Let me mention one other thing that might be of interest to you, and I know the [Arkansas Public Safety Commission] has been working on net net metering rules. And because we have a deadline that is coming Dec. 31 of this year for our net metering rules, let me tell you very clearly that that deadline … needs to be extended,” said the governor, who is in the last few months of his eight-year administration. “There needs to be a fixed rate for the interconnectivity agreement for 20 years for consistency in locking in the rates for investments in solar,” Hutchinson continued. “I think really the only debate is how long the extension [of grandfathering in a 20 year fixed credit rate] should be.” The governor said he envisioned an extension of at least two years. In that time, he said, “our policymakers can continue to examine it and fine-tune the rules… But that deadline needs to be expanded.” As the PSC has worked on the issue, the governor has offered feedback, he said. He also praised another of Wednesday’s speakers, former PSC Chairman Ted Thomas, who resigned after eight years on the utility regulatory panel at the first of the month, as well as the lawyer he chose to succeed Thomas, Katie Anderson. “Thank you, Ted, for your service and your support in the solar industry as a leader,” Hutchinson said. “I think our new chair will catch up very quickly and do a great job as she helps resolve some of these thorny issues that are still pending.” The governor has declared this October as Energy Awareness month in Arkansas, calling it his opportunity to “remind Arkansans of the importance of all of the alternative energy sources and how we’re the Natural State, with a need to continue promoting the development of our natural resources in ways that minimize waste and employ alternative energy sources.” The grandfathering issue in net metering was the association’s top priority heading into its 10th annual meeting, Executive Director Lauren Waldrip said. The association’s Advanced Energy Rising Star Award went to Jade Anuszek, co-founder and president of Arkansas Solar Power Inc., a residential and commercial solar contractor. A former real estate agent, Anuszek is “passionate about about bridging the gap of solar affordability, and promoting grid flexibility.” The Advanced Energy Innovation Award went to Evolve Auto of North Little Rock, which specializes in selling used but pristine electric cars.

How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM Society Of Behavioral Medicine
How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM – Society Of Behavioral Medicine https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/how-to-cope-with-the-stress-of-ivf-sbm-society-of-behavioral-medicine/ Joanna Buscemi, PhD, Depaul University If you are about to embark on an in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed. The process is fraught with stressors, including concerns about cost, the IVF process itself, and whether the procedure will be successful – all while continuing to manage day-to-day obligations. Your decision to pursue IVF may also follow significant medical and pregnancy loss trauma and/or years of infertility. Coping with that trauma while beginning an intensive medical treatment with an uncertain outcome is a lot to manage. While stress is an inevitable part of IVF, there are strategies available to help support you along the way. Here is a non-comprehensive list of tips to help you better cope with the stress of IVF: Take it one step at a time. The IVF process is overwhelming. It starts with lots of baseline appointments, discussions about insurance coverage, and treatment decisions to be made before beginning a cycle. This is followed by numerous medications that you may not understand how to use showing up at your door, each requiring different preparation.Unless you are a medical professional yourself, mixing medications or loading up syringes will likely be a new task, and this can be difficult to learn while you are managing the myriad of emotions associated with fertility treatment. It is important to try to complete the checklist one item at a time rather than allowing yourself to become overwhelmed by the number of steps required from start to finish. Prioritize self-care. Most of the time, normal life continues during your IVF cycle, and it can be difficult to manage what is required for IVF along with other stressors. While research that stress doesn’t have a notable effect on IVF success, your well-being is reason enough to prioritize self-care.  It is extra important to make space to be kind to yourself when you can before, during, and after the IVF cycle. What activities do you love to do? What brings you joy? What activities make you feel loved and cared for? Prioritize time for these activities as possible. Practice distress tolerance. The uncertainty of IVF at each stage makes it difficult to feel at ease. There are techniques that can help you accept discomfort associated with loss of control and unpredictability. While it can be difficult to sit with the distress, it is an important practice that may translate to better overall distress tolerance skills in the future. You can find specific strategies for distress tolerance here. Find your best 1-2 social supports, preferably other people who understand the stress of IVF. IVF is personal and can feel like a lonely journey. It may be helpful to build a small but reliable and helpful network of people who have gone through the IVF process themselves. While their treatment protocols and experiences may differ from yours, having a couple of people who are willing to listen to how you are feeling or share their perspective can be really helpful. Find a therapist who provides evidence-based care for people with fertility struggles. Therapists who specialize in infertility and/or pregnancy loss and fertility treatment are hard to come by but are the absolute best experts to help you on your fertility journey. If you cannot find someone who specializes in infertility and/or pregnancy loss, it is important to find someone who has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and evidence-based interventions for trauma. Consider asking your fertility doctor for referrals. Be cautious of social media IVF groups. It can be tempting to join social media groups to seek support. Sometimes these groups can be helpful. In other cases, they fuel anxieties with pregnancy announcements or stories of failed transfers. They can also be a source of fertility related misinformation. As an example, some IVF groups insist that eating a pineapple core or drinking pomegranate juice will increase your odds of successful embryo transfer. While neither of those behaviors will hurt you, it’s highly unlikely to impact your odds of success, at all. These groups sometimes lead to social comparisons that are not always helpful. Each treatment plan is unique, and outcomes vary drastically. Become aware of how you feel while engaging with these posts, then decide whether they are helpful or harmful.  Remember that stress does not affect IVF or pregnancy outcomes. Navigating the IVF process is stressful enough. Worrying that your stress is going to lead to a failed IVF cycle or harm your pregnancy only exacerbates overall distress. While using coping strategies to manage stress is a good idea, worrying about your stress levels is not. If you are experiencing stress, show yourself some compassion and remind yourself that this is difficult. It’s ok to feel the weight of that difficulty as you move through the process. The Major League Baseball postseason has offered us a dose of the unexpected thus far. We saw the likes of Max Fried and Justin Verlander get hit around on Tuesday and exit their respective starts quite a bit earlier than many expected. Much to the surprise of some, the Phillies stole Game 1 of their National League Division Series against the Braves and, in the nightcap, I at least assumed that Gerrit Cole would have his fair share of struggles against a scrappy Guardians lineup but he was locked in.  By submitting my email I agree to receive the “CBS Sports HQ Newsletter” and other marketing and promotional emails from CBS Sports, which may include information from our affiliates and/or partners’ offers, products and services. Sorry! There was an error processing your subscription. Today is another day, so let’s get to Wednesday’s picks. All times Eastern, and all odds via Caesars Sportsbook The Hot Ticket Padres at Dodgers, 8:37 p.m. | TV: FS1 Latest Odds: Under 7 Key Trend: The under is 4-0-1 in the Dodgers’ last five home games The Pick: Under 7.0 runs (-105) There were eight runs scored in Game 1, but I don’t expect a repeat because the pitching matchup is a little more even in Game 2. The Padres will be sending right-hander Yu Darvish to the mound and he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a start since Aug. 13. Darvish is coming off an exceptional performance against the Mets in the Wild Card round in which he yielded just one earned run on six hits across seven innings. In his last start against the Dodgers on Sept. 2, Darvish tossed seven shutout innings and recorded a win as he held Los Angeles to just a pair of hits. Meanwhile, veteran southpaw Clayton Kershaw will get the ball for the Dodgers. He’s allowed just two earned runs or fewer in each of his last eight starts entering the postseason. In addition, the left-hander has only conceded two runs in two of those outings. With two aces with postseason experience on the mound, I’m very comfortable riding with the under in this one. The lineups may be dangerous, but these pitchers are more than capable of keeping them at bay. More picks Getty Images Kraken at Ducks, 10 p.m. | TV: ESPN+ Latest Odds: Seattle Kraken -105 The Pick: Kraken (+105): — The 2022-23 NHL season is officially underway and that means renewed hope for many teams around the league. Two of those teams are the Kraken and the Ducks. With some new blood injected into their respective lineups, I expect this matchup to be a very close one. The Ducks got the best of the Kraken last season as they were victorious in two of the three meetings and held a 14-9 advantage in the goals department. However, Seattle added an abundance of talent in the offseason, led by winger Andre Burakovsky. Joining Burakovsky on the team’s top line is Seattle’s top prospect in Matty Beniers, who has been labeled as a dark horse for the Calder Trophy. It’s possible that the Ducks will be without top goaltender John Gibson, who suffered an upper-body injury in the team’s preseason finale over the weekend. Even if Gibson is in net, I still like the Kraken as an underdog in this spot with their added weapons. Key Trend: The Ducks are 1-5 in their last six games against the Pacific Division The Pick: Clayton Kershaw Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-158): — There have been few pitchers throwing the ball better than Kershaw since the All-Star break. The Dodgers left-hander has tallied at least five strikeouts in six of his last seven starts. In his most recent start against the Rockies, Kershaw racked up nine punch-outs across just five innings. Additionally, Kershaw hasn’t lost a start since July 30 and has recorded a win in four of his last five outings. He’s lasted at least six innings in four of his last five starts, so he should have every opportunity to get those five strikeouts against a Padres team that may be a tad more aggressive since they’re trailing by a game in the series. Key Trend: Kershaw has recorded at least five strikeouts in six of his last seven starts

Dogecoin Price Prediction As Elon Musk Launches Fragrance Accepting DOGE Payments – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/dogecoin-price-prediction-as-elon-musk-launches-fragrance-accepting-doge-payments-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. Elon Musk, the billionaire industrialist and Dogecoin enthusiast, has launched a new fragrance that can be purchased using Dogecoin.  Can this be the catalyst for DOGE’s jump, especially with the market’s bear run?  DOGE Price Movement DOGE, one of the best meme coins, has been bearish for the past few days. The digital asset currently trades at $0.06045. Although DOGE has pumped by 0.38% in the past 24 hours, its weekly price peg indicates a downtrend of 7%. DOGE’s technicals show that the crypto asset currently trades above all of its short-term moving average (MA) indicators; however, its 100-day and 200-day MAs ($0.06070 and $0.0609) are above its current price.  With a positive moving average convergence divergence (MACD), DOGE indicates a buy signal. In addition, the crypto asset’s relative strength index (RSI) of 58.11 reveals that it’s not massively overbought.  Buy DOGE on eToro Now Elon Musk’s New Fragrance Accepts DOGE The biggest news for DOGE seems to be the recent launch of Burnt Hair, a fresh fragrance launched by Elon Musk.  Musk shared the fragrance’s first look in the early hours of Wednesday. The billionaire included a purchase link hosted by The Boring Company, his tunnel construction project. Each bottle of Burnt Hair costs $100, and Musk confirmed that DOGE payments are accepted for the cologne. Just a few hours after announcing it, Musk confirmed that 10,000 bottles of Burnt Hair had been sold. However, the billionaire has yet to confirm how many bottles were bought using DOGE.  Burnt Hair is the second recent notable DOGE-related development coming from Musk.  DOGE’s Twitter Takeover Last week, Musk’s lawyers filed to complete his $44 billion takeover of Twitter, possibly bringing an end to a back-and-forth that has gone on for months between both parties.  According to phone transcripts, the billionaire proposed that users pay a small fee in DOGE whenever they want to tweet or retweet something. It is still unclear whether this will be possible, but there is growing confidence that Musk will include a role for DOGE to play as he takes over Twitter and reshapes the social networking giant.  Google Cloud Integrates DOGE Another bullish news for DOGE is Google’s partnership with notable crypto exchange Coinbase. According to reports, the internet conglomerate has partnered with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for its Google Cloud service.   At its Cloud Next conference, Google Cloud Vice President and General Manager Amit Zavery explained that Google would start accepting crypto payments from a “handful” of customers through its integration with Coinbase Commerce, a payment tool for businesses. Coinbase Commerce currently accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), DOGE, and Tether (USDT).   Although the terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, Jim Migdal, Vice President of business development at Coinbase, reportedly announced that the deal would follow other arrangements with Coinbase Commerce. The exchange will likely receive a cut of every transaction that goes through the system.  Conclusion  Dogecoin is an interesting asset for prospective investors in the crypto space. However, investors looking to make a meaningful change can consider IMPT, the native token for Impact Protocol.  Impact Protocol intends to use blockchain to fight climate change by allowing users to purchase carbon credits. Its IMPT token presale is currently one of the best crypto presales, already raising $3 million. Investors can buy IMPT tokens on the website.  Visit IMPT Now

Minority Farmers Sue U.S. Government Over Repealed Debt Relief Program – Reuters https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/minority-farmers-sue-u-s-government-over-repealed-debt-relief-program-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – Black and other farmers of color filed a class action lawsuit against the U.S. government on Wednesday, claiming the recent repeal of a debt relief program that targeted them amounts to a breach of contract by the government. The suit comes as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is set to roll out an amended debt relief program, passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August, that allocates relief based on economic need rather than race. USDA offers operating and ownership loans to farmers through its Farm Service Agency (FSA). The agency had previously said it would forgive loan debt held by farmers it describes as socially disadvantaged, in an attempt to compensate for decades of discriminatory lending practices that contributed to them losing land. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The definition includes Black, Native American, Hispanic and Asian farmers. White farmers alleged discrimination and stalled the program with lawsuits. It was then repealed by the IRA, which instead included a debt relief provision based solely on economic need, angering some Black farmer groups. Four Virginia farmers of color argue in the suit, filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, that the repeal amounted to breaching a contract with farmers, some of whom made financial plans or bought new equipment or land based on the expectation of relief. The farmers are represented by Ben Crump, a prominent U.S. civil rights attorney known for his work representing the families of Black Americans killed by police. The Department of Justice declined to comment on the suit. About 14,000 farmers of color received letters from USDA between May and September of 2021 promising a cumulative $2.4 billion in debt relief, according to earlier Reuters reporting. Princess Williams, one of the four plaintiffs, said at a news conference in Washington that she had signed and returned one of those letters and took out new loans with the expectation of having her FSA debt forgiven. “We did not receive that money and now, it’s putting us in a total financial bind,” she said. SpaceX to take entrepreneur Dennis Tito on Starship around the moon Billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX said on Wednesday that the world’s first space tourist Dennis Tito and his wife Akiko have signed up to fly around the moon on the space exploration firm’s Starship rocket. Engineer turned financial analyst Tito, 82, was the first private individual to pay for a trip to space on Russia’s Soyuz TM-32 mission in 2001, when he spent nearly eight days aboard the International Space Station. ‘Although not alive, I can still create art,’ robot Ai-Da tells UK lawmakers A “robot artist” called Ai-Da told British lawmakers on Tuesday that although it was an artificial creation, it was still capable of producing art, as it spoke at a parliamentary inquiry into how new technologies will affect the creative industries. Described as “the world’s first ultra-realistic AI humanoid robot artist”, it appeared in one of parliament’s ornate wood-panelled rooms, wearing a short black-haired wig and denim dungarees. Japan’s Epsilon rocket failed after launch – Kyodo The Japanese space agency’s Epsilon rocket failed after it was launched on Wednesday, Kyodo News and other domestic media reported. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) sent a destruction order signal to the rocket after detecting trouble, Kyodo said. Public broadcaster NHK said the signal was sent after JAXA determined that rocket was not able to fly safely. The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving MySA
The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving MySA
The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving – MySA https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/the-single-busiest-day-to-fly-around-thanksgiving-mysa/ Thanksgiving week tends to draw major airport crowds. Coupled with inevitable weather delays and sometimes infrequent flyers, it can be a brutal time to travel. Not to mention, the conventional wisdom to fly on Tuesdays won’t necessarily save you much money. But some days within Thanksgiving week are significantly busier than others. If you can afford to be flexible with your schedule, you’ll not only save money, but you might also avoid chaos. The best and worst days to fly around Thanksgiving NerdWallet analyzed the past three years of checkpoint travel numbers provided by the Transportation Security Administration, which tracks the number of passengers screened daily at U.S. TSA checkpoints. In each of the past three years, the Sunday after Thanksgiving was the most crowded day to travel from the Friday before Thanksgiving through the Wednesday after. As far as the least crowded? Thanksgiving Day itself. When averaging over the past three years, here were the most to least crowded days for Thanksgiving flying, ranked: Sunday after Thanksgiving (most crowded). Wednesday before. Saturday after. Friday before. Cyber Monday. Sunday before. Tuesday before. Monday before. Saturday before. Giving Tuesday. Black Friday. Wednesday after. Thanksgiving Day (least crowded). When broken out by pre- and post-holiday travel, here are the three least-crowded days to travel ranked from least to most crowded. Because they’re less crowded and likely less expensive, it makes them some of the best days to fly around Thanksgiving. Pre-holiday: Saturday before. Monday before. Tuesday before. Post-holiday: Wednesday after. Black Friday. Giving Tuesday. Why flying the Sunday after Thanksgiving is so terrible By almost all metrics, the Sunday after Thanksgiving is pretty much the worst day of the year you could fly. In both 2021 and 2019, it was the busiest single day of the entire year in terms of U.S. passengers, based on TSA passenger data. The post-Thanksgiving Sunday was not the busiest day of the year in 2020 because, well, you know why (2020’s most-crowded-day award went to Friday, Feb. 14, which preceded the Presidents Day weekend and pandemic-related travel restrictions). But although 2020 holiday crowds were certainly lighter than usual, the trend of Sunday as a busy day still rang true. Over 2x more people passed through TSA on the Sunday after than those who passed through on Thanksgiving in 2020. Here’s a numerical breakdown of crowds on Thanksgiving Day itself versus the Sunday after Thanksgiving for the past three years: For every 100 people who were flying out on Thanksgiving Day 2021, there were 177 people flying out on the Sunday after. The smarter, cheaper Thanksgiving weekend itinerary Beyond crowds, expect to pay big this year. The average round-trip domestic airfare for trips beginning between Nov. 20 and Nov. 24, 2022, is $350, according to travel booking app Hopper. That figure is 43% higher compared to flights taken during the same weekdays last year, and it’s 22% higher than 2019 prices. However, around that time frame, prices can swing wildly: The average domestic airfare for round-trip flights returning Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, are $528 — a 51% increase above the average. If you work a standard Monday-Friday workweek, with two days off for the holiday, then leaving Wednesday after work and flying home Sunday night might make sense to eliminate time off work. That’s the schedule most people follow, and if you join in then you’ll pay — both in terms of literal price but also airport crowds. But if you can be a bit flexible, then avoid the Wednesday-Sunday itinerary and try these travel days instead. Travel on Thanksgiving Day Across travel days for the week before and after Thanksgiving, the holiday itself was the lowest-traffic day every year over the past three years. Book the first flight out for the day — a practice NerdWallet recommends anyway to reduce your odds of a flight delay — and you might even land in time for Thanksgiving dinner. And according to flight data from travel search engine Expedia, traveling on Thanksgiving Day is also the cheapest day to fly within that period. Stay longer If you don’t mind extending your trip, the Wednesday after Thanksgiving was the second-least busy day in 2021 and 2020. Especially if you have the option of remote work, you might be able to avoid taking vacation days, despite the longer trip. Even if you can’t stay through Wednesday, you’ll still save by flying out on Monday versus the Sunday after Thanksgiving. According to Hopper, domestic airfares average 17% cheaper to fly out on Cyber Monday versus flying out one day earlier. It can also make sense to get your Thanksgiving celebrations started early by flying out well ahead of the day before. Expedia data found that average ticket prices for departures on the Monday before Thanksgiving are 15% cheaper than Wednesday departures. And in some cities, the difference is even starker. For example, average airfares for domestic flights to Las Vegas dropped from $550 for Wednesday arrivals to just $380 for arrival days earlier in the week, amounting to roughly 31% in savings. Fly on Black Friday If you must travel during the weekend, consider having Thanksgiving dinner at your own home and then flying somewhere on Black Friday, which is the third-least crowded day to fly on average. Hopper’s 2022 Holiday Travel Outlook said Black Friday fares average $175 less than fares for the weekend days after. Consider it a great way to not only avoid airport crowds, but also retail crowds — as you won’t be out shopping. The standard rules around the best (and worst) days to fly don’t necessarily apply. Coupling that with conventional wisdom around saving money on flights, flying for Thanksgiving might not be as painful a proposition as you once thought. Wall Street Edges Higher, Though Trading Remains Unsettled – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/wall-street-edges-higher-though-trading-remains-unsettled-69news-wfmz-tv/ Stocks edged higher, though trading remain unsettled on Wall Street Wednesday after a report showed that inflation remains very hot. The indexes were little changed following the release of the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s last interest rate policy meeting. The minutes show Fed officials stressed their commitment to taming “unacceptably high” inflation before announcing another hefty interest rate hike and signaling more large rate increases ahead. The S&P 500 rose 0.4% as of 2:29 p.m. Eastern. The index was roughly evenly split between gainers and losers. Different sectors have the market have been alternating between leading and lagging throughout the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 162 points, or 0.6%, to 29,404, and the Nasdaq rose 0.5%. Treasury yields, which have driven much of Wall Street’s recent trading, eased modestly. The yield on the 10-year Treasury, which affects mortgage rates, fell to 3.90% from 3.95% late Tuesday. It had been at 3.92% before the release of the Fed meeting minutes. The yield on the 2-year Treasury held steady at 4.31%. Banks and technology stocks made solid gains. Bank of America rose 1.4% and Intuit rose 2.6%. Consumer goods companies also rose broadly. PepsiCo rose 4.3% after raising its profit forecast for the year following encouraging quarterly financial results. Cruise line operators were among the biggest gainers in the S&P 500. Carnival rose 9.7%, Norwegian Cruise Line gained 10.2% and Royal Caribbean climbed 10.3%. Markets have been volatile all week as investors wait for the latest round of big company earnings reports and fresh reports on inflation and retail sales. The benchmark S&P 500 is coming off five straight losses and is close to its lowest point in nearly two years. A report from the government showed that inflation at the wholesale level eased last month, though it was a bit worse than economists expected. A more closely watched component of the inflation data matched economists’ forecasts. Inflation updates are being closely watched by investors who worry that stubbornly high prices on everything from food to clothing could lead to a recession. Those worries have been worsened by central banks around the world raising interest rates to make borrowing more expensive and slow economic growth. The Federal Reserve has been particularly aggressive, and its strategy carries the risk of stalling an already slowing economy and causing a recession. In the minutes from the central bank’s Sept. 20-21 meeting, Fed policymakers judged that a “softening of the labor market’’ — likely including higher unemployment — would be needed to curb the nation’s inflationary pressures. They noted that hiring remained “robust,” which itself fuels high inflation as wages rise sharply. A closely watched report on consumer prices is due Thursday and data on retail sales for September is due Friday. Both reports could help give Wall Street a clearer picture of where prices remain hottest and how consumers are reacting. The corporate earnings season begins in earnest this week. Domino’s Pizza and Walgreens will report their results on Thursday. Big banks, including Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase, will report results on Friday. The British pound weakened against the U.S. dollar after the governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, confirmed the bank will not extend beyond Friday an emergency debt-buying plan introduced last month to stabilize financial markets. Markets in Europe were mostly lower. The U.S. dollar has been gaining strength relative to other currencies amid increased recession fears. The Japanese yen declined to a 24-year low against the U.S. dollar to 146 yen-levels, raising expectations of an intervention to prop up the yen following one such move in September. Never Too Late To Take Control Of Your Life – Kiowa County Signal – Kiowa County Signal https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/never-too-late-to-take-control-of-your-life-kiowa-county-signal-kiowa-county-signal/ By Ken Johnson President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System Special to the Tribune September was Healthy Aging month, an annual observance which is reaffirmation that, regardless of age, no one is getting younger and we are, (hopefully) as the old expression goes “aging gracefully.” For the second year in a row, America’s life expectancy declined to 76.1 years, the lowest since 1996. The two year drop of 2.7 years is the largest decline in 100 years. Factors included in the decline range from COVID-19 to accidental deaths, drug overdoses and an unhealthy lifestyle. On the other hand, 97,000 Americans have achieved the distinction of being centenarians, a term denoting more than 100 years in age, the most of any nation on earth. Men should take note that 85 percent of centenarians are women. In a recent interview, a 105-year old farmer in Minnesota attributed his longevity to maintaining an active mind and body. As a healthcare professional, I am often asked for an opinion on healthy living. Although some may say genetics is the ultimate factor in our longevity, we can all slow potential medical problems by mere changes in lifestyle. So, if cardiovascular issues are common in your family tree, it should be a warning sign that exercise and healthy eating habits may reduce the chances of that occurring to you. Driving to work early each morning, it is encouraging to observe locals starting their day with a brisk walk. And, in my trips to a local gym it is apparent that more people are starting their day with a workout. There are days I almost want to say “power to you and keep it up.” Medical journals are unanimous in stating smart food choices, a good night’s sleep of seven to nine hours, avoidance of tobacco products and no more than a moderation consumption of alcohol are important factors in longevity. Many non-consumption factors that are often overlooked deal with the mind and include everything from adaptability to change, maintaining a sense of humor, determination, optimism, and maintaining social relationships. It is never too late to take control of your health; so, let’s all make the commitment to do so today and by next September we will be reaping the benefits of a healthier and happier life.

Sports World Reacts To Charles Barkley Decision News – The Spun https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/sports-world-reacts-to-charles-barkley-decision-news-the-spun/ PHOENIX, AZ – MARCH 03: NBA legend Charles Barkley speaks during half time of the NBA game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Phoenix Suns at Talking Stick Resort Arena on March 3, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) Charles Barkley has reupped with WarnerMedia after a public flirtation with LIV Golf earlier this year. Kathleen Finch, the WarnerBrothers Discovery chief content officer of U.S. networks, confirmed in a recent interview that not only has Barkley signed a new deal with the company, but they intend to use Sir Charles beyond covering the NBA on TNT. “It was really fun to sit down with him and celebrate his new contract, because he is such a fabulous part of that team and he is just such a really special guy,” Finch said, via The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m excited to find other ways to put him on television talking about something other than basketball. Because he has a lot to say. He’s just a regular guy interested in a lot of things. I got him excited about Celebrity IOU.” Barkley still had three years left on his current contract, but that didn’t stop WarnerMedia from making him a priority for an extension. Some are excited to see Barkley take on some new roles on television, while others aren’t so sure.  Barkley will be back on Inside The NBA, where he has worked for more than two decades, for the upcoming 2022-23 season. He was reportedly making $10 million per year for that assignment before this new contract, plus another $10 million in endorsements.

Meta Chief Marne Levine Says Metaverse Will Be game Changer For Women Fortune
Meta Chief Marne Levine Says Metaverse Will Be ‘game Changer For Women’ – Fortune https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/meta-chief-marne-levine-says-metaverse-will-be-game-changer-for-women-fortune/ Meta announced on Tuesday that its metaverse avatars will have legs, but it remains uncertain if that will also be true for the company’s $70 billion bet on a virtual world. Meta’s decision to go all-in on the Metaverse has caused its stock price to tank and led to ridicule from many quarters—but that hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of chief business officer Marne Levine, who predicts the technology will especially benefit one segment of the population. “It’s particularly going to be a game changer for women,” Levine said at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference in an interview with Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell. “Because it levels up the technology, it also levels the playing field.” Levine’s observation on gender parity concluded a big day for the company. At Tuesday’s flagship Meta Connect event, the company described its plans for getting its metaverse into the mainstream. For now, those plans include a $1,499.99 Meta Quest Pro VR headset (available for purchase October 25) and a partnership with Microsoft that will let users attend Teams meetings as a cowboy hat-donning avatar. And the event’s big reveal: a fall sweater-clad Mark Zuckerberg avatar showed off his new knees (“Seriously, legs are hard!” he exclaimed).  In her talk with Shontell, Levine explained that Meta’s metaverse will benefit women inadvertently; studies show women prefer remote jobs, and Meta’s metaverse technology would make remote labor feel less remote. She said simulative technology like eye contact, sidebar conversations and whiteboarding during avatar-led meetings would make remote workers feel like they’re in “actual meetings.” As the metaverse and virtual reality are relatively new technologies, there are no large-scale studies that show whether these emerging technologies will be positive or detrimental to women. That said, anecdotal evidence is not all positive—when Meta first opened its metaverse, one user reported being groped by a stranger. Now Meta has “community guides” meandering around the metaverse to answer questions and enforce the code of conduct that bans things like sexual assault. Many speculate Meta is pushing metaverse as a result of Apple’s privacy changes that have driven up the costs of acquiring customers by Instagram and Facebook ads. Levine acknowledged this: “Apple made a bunch of changes on their platform, and it changed the way businesses big and small are able to find new customers.” She said her main goal is helping these businesses generate profitability, though did not tie this objective to marketing in the metaverse. Levine worked in government and tech before jumping to Meta in 2010. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 2005, Levine worked in the U.S. Department of the Treasury followed by years as chief of staff for  Harvard President Larry Summers’ and at the National Economic Council before starting as Facebook’s first-ever vice president for global public policy in 2010. She moved up the company to serve as Instagram’s COO. In June 2021, she landed in her current role as Meta Chief Business Officer, overseeing all revenue generating initiatives (read: everything). Levine also responded to Meta’s sinking stock, corporate morale around hiring freezes and the media’s skepticism around its $70 billion investment into virtual reality. “People at Meta–they genuinely have this mindset, which is that things are going to change and evolve,” said Levine. “If you’re not comfortable with that, it’s probably not the right place for you.” Sign up for the Fortune Features email list so you don’t miss our biggest features, exclusive interviews, and investigations.

Crypto Prices Are Higher Ahead Of Key Inflation Data, Bitcoin Holds At $19,000 – CNBC https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/crypto-prices-are-higher-ahead-of-key-inflation-data-bitcoin-holds-at-19000-cnbc/ Ether has hugely outperformed bitcoin since both cryptocurrencies formed a bottom in June 2022. Ether’s superior gains have come as investors anticipate a major upgrade to the ethereum blockchain called “the merge.” Yuriko Nakao | Getty Images Cryptocurrencies were slightly higher on Wednesday after investors shrugged off a higher-than-expected inflation report in anticipation of another key inflation indicator due to come out on Thursday. The price of bitcoin edged higher by about 0.4% and was trading at $19,072.00, while ether rose 0.6% to $1,290.73. The September producer price index, a gauge of final-demand wholesale prices, came in higher than expected, suggesting to investors that the Federal Reserve is likely to continue aggressively hiking rates until inflation comes down. Crypto and equities investors alike are looking forward to Thursday’s consumer price index report. Defiance ETFs CEO and chief investment officer Sylvia Jablonski called the PPI report a “benign” reading that investors are neither overly disappointed nor overly excited about. Bitcoin and ether have traded in a narrow range for about a month, with bitcoin “stuck” in the $19,000 level, and their moves have been largely macro led as the crypto industry quietly builds new narratives for the next bull run. “Until we get past tomorrow’s CPI read and this earnings season, and get more color from the Fed, crypto and equities will stay in this trading range and a lot of the investor funds that typically go into the market will remain on the sidelines,” she told CNBC. “There is a sense that we’re closer to the bottom than not, but there also isn’t this urgency to get in from a lot of investors because of the short-term uncertainty,” she added. “Until then, crypto and any kind of growth assets remain in purgatory.”

U.S. May Block Russian Aluminum Imports -Source – Reuters.com https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/u-s-may-block-russian-aluminum-imports-source-reuters-com/ WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – The Biden administration is weighing restricting imports of Russian aluminum as it charts possible responses to Moscow’s military escalation in Ukraine, a person briefed on the conversations told Reuters. Such a move, which has not been finalized, would likely boost global prices for the metal used in a wide range of consumer products and could reverse a previous White House stance that such sanctions could wreak havoc on global markets. “We’re always considering all options,” said a White House official. “There is no movement on this as of now.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The Treasury and Commerce departments did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters. The administration’s choices include an outright ban, raising tariffs to levels so punitive they would constitute an effective ban, or sanctioning United Co Rusal International PJSC, the company also known as Rusal that produces Russia’s metal, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the conversations about an aluminum ban earlier on Wednesday. Rusal (RUAL.MM), the world’s largest aluminum producer outside China, did not immediately reply to a Reuters’ request for comment. Russian attacks using more than 100 missiles have killed at least 26 people across Ukraine since Monday, when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered what he called retaliatory strikes against Ukraine for an explosion on a bridge. “It’s brutal, it’s beyond the pale,” President Joe Biden said on Wednesday, a day after he pledged ongoing assistance to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Shares of U.S.-based aluminum producer Alcoa Corp (AA.N) were last trading up 5.1% in New York, following the report. Shares of Rio Tinto Plc (RIO.L), which produces aluminum as well as iron ore, copper and other metals, fell about 1% on Wednesday in London.
