It invests in Metaverse technology to implement and develop its current and future projects, which contributes towards stakeholder happiness, the development of business, enhancing efficiency and production, and reducing costs. This was announced during Dewa’s Digital Transformation Steering Committee Meeting, where McKinsey also attended and presented the Digital Quotient Assessment 2022 report, highlighting that Dewa has maintained its position as a global digital leader in utilities. “At Dewa, we strive to enhance our use of the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including the Metaverse, which is a key pillar and a new method of work in all vital sectors, to harness this technology to find new opportunities and provide innovative solutions that accelerate growth to enhance Dubai’s position regionally and globally. This helps achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to benefit from the digital technologies and artificial intelligence to promote performance and improve people’s quality of life. This also boosts the Dubai Metaverse Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, that aims to turn Dubai into one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies as well as a global hub for the metaverse community, to enhance its success in this field,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa. During the meeting, seven projects using Metaverse technology were reviewed. These include the Customer Service Centre, the first of its kind locally, which enables customers to communicate with the Customer Care Centre agents to answer their inquiries and complete transactions in the virtual world. Dewa Workplace enables users to move around the Dewa buildings and hold meetings in the virtual world. Dewa Future Lab enables users to hold brainstorming sessions, discuss challenges and develop the best solutions using innovation tools in the virtual world. The First Aid and Fire Safety introduces first aid and fire safety procedures virtually. MetaDrone gathers information on solar panels, fix them, and generate reports using VR. Dewa was one of the first government entities in Dubai to complete the smart transformation of all its services by 100 per cent in 2014. Dewa’s key milestones in its journey include adopting Google Glasses in 2014, which constituted a new shift in the quality of services provided. The app was specifically designed to suit the needs of Dewa to monitor any malfunctions at its stations. In 2016, Dewa adopted the HoloLens Technology from Microsoft, to enhance its operations and improve productivity. Dewa was the first government organisation to adopt this technology in electricity and water services. Dewa also started using the Smart Helmet & Smart Glasses (DAQRI) in 2017, which works with virtual reality technology to support engineers in power plants. Dewa organised the 22nd Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS) in 2020 through a virtual 3D platform, for the first time in the Mena region. The exhibition enabled visitors and exhibitors to participate without the need to travel. In addition, Dewa provided a virtual Reality Studio and Self-Service for its employees. The studio provides Dewa’s employees with simulated training on first aid, safety procedures and fire prevention, an overview of Dewa, its projects, strategy, and the services it provides to employees and customers. Victoria Vincent: U.S. Needs To Unleash Domestic Energy Innovation – Salt Lake Tribune https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/victoria-vincent-u-s-needs-to-unleash-domestic-energy-innovation-salt-lake-tribune/ FILE – In this Monday, Feb. 1, 2021 file photo, emissions from a coal-fired power plant are silhouetted against the setting sun in Independence, Mo. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel) By Victoria Vincent | Special to The Tribune   | Oct. 9, 2022, 12:00 p.m. Ask the American public about Asia’s technological leg-ups over the U.S., and these days they are likely to mention semiconductors. Used in practically everything from cell phones to washing machines, the recent semiconductor shortage has created severe supply chain pressures that are hiking costs for Americans across the country. Unbeknownst to many, Asia — and China in particular — is dominating another key industry, which can threaten U.S. stability and security: clean energy technology. As the demand for energy grows around the world, so too will the need for low-cost, clean energy. Whichever nation capitalizes on this opportunity and becomes the world’s leading energy innovator will enjoy remarkable economic growth, access to developing markets, and geopolitical influence. These are the benefits that can come from the U.S. competing in — and winning — the 21st century energy arms race. Unfortunately, in many ways, this is a competition the U.S. is currently losing. The solar panels you might purchase to use on your home were most likely manufactured in China, which dominates 60% of the global solar panel market. The world’s largest capacity for wind energy: also, China. And on top of that, the Chinese Communist Party is rapidly accelerating its ability to export technology and infrastructure as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. On this critical topic, America has yet to bring its A-game. If we do, we could grow our economy and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, help secure our energy independence, crowd out China’s influence on the world stage, and cut the carbon pollution that’s driving billions of dollars in climate damage to the American homeland. To surge ahead, there are a suite of potential investments and responses U.S. lawmakers and innovators can make. However, any serious response must harness the full entrepreneurial and innovative power of the U.S. marketplace. Most importantly, this means putting a price on carbon. Preferred by businesses and innovators, this approach would establish a clear, economy-wide incentive through a gradually-rising fee on carbon emissions. It would create a level playing field for energy innovation and competition, and provide the private sector with the stability and predictability it needs to invest with confidence in clean energy technologies. This approach contrasts with the left’s approach to pursuing energy innovation, which too often relies on regulatory red tape and the government to pick winners and losers. These heavy-handed policies are not only costly and slow, but they are also unlikely to spark the private sector growth and innovation needed to speed ahead of China. A carbon price can be designed to further sharpen America’s competitive edge. Given our strong environmental standards here in the U.S., other countries are currently undercutting American manufacturers by producing goods more cheaply with lax regulations. In fact, products manufactured in China are on average three times more carbon intensive than those made in America. If a U.S. carbon price is paired with a border adjustment — a comparable fee on high-polluting overseas goods — we could hold finally other countries to the same standards, giving American manufacturers a competitive advantage. This would shrink China’s economic influence and bring jobs and manufacturing back to the U.S. The U.S. has so much to gain from leading on this issue. From ensuring energy security, to reducing pollution, to growing our economy, the geostrategic benefits are enormous — and they could determine the balance of power in the 21st century and beyond. It is time for America to play offense and show China what we’re made of. IIT Mandi Start Up To Launch Worlds First Giant Swing Backed By AI In Manali The Indian Express
IIT Mandi Start Up To Launch Worlds First Giant Swing Backed By AI In Manali The Indian Express
IIT Mandi Start Up To Launch World’s First Giant Swing Backed By AI In Manali – The Indian Express https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/iit-mandi-start-up-to-launch-worlds-first-giant-swing-backed-by-ai-in-manali-the-indian-express/ Come January, tourists in Manali will be able to get adrenaline rush riding a giant swing backed by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has been built by a start up incubated at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi and is claimed to be the first-of-its kind in the world. Founded by four childhood adventure enthusiast friends who are engineers and certified rock climbers and mountaineers, the start up called ‘ManaliSwing’, has completed its human jump trials and is in process of filing five patents for the concept and design. The team claims it has already been approached by Dubai government to launch the swing in the country and is in conversation with interested agencies in Switzerland too. “We will offer one of the world’s most creative and safe giant swing like bungy jumping but instead of going down on rubber bungy cord, here one freefall followed by giant swing on dual dynamic ropes with over 100 possible jump styles allowing one to experience the adrenaline of 70m free fall with AI promising impeccable safety like never before,” Utsav Soni, one of the founders, told PTI. “The plan is to launch in Manali on new year. The tourists will have to pay Rs 3,000 for each jump. The cost will include transportation from a certain point and professional photography and videography service,” he added. The start up conducted a full-scale trial of 1,000 dummy jumps followed by successful Human Jumps under the special presence of IRATA experts at IIT Hyderabad. “The AI will also help track participants and jump master’s performance across millions of data points and deliver optimized approvals for jumping. Having a really intelligent AI will be an edge for a Jump Master and his team making sure no injury, incident, or causality can happen on the site. For example, AI will not approve the jump if there is anything wrong with the followed jump protocol or international standards. “This will be one of the best intersections of technology, innovation and adventure sport of this decade which has potential to disrupt the whole adventure tourism industry. The good part is that we don’t need to have some special hi-tech cameras and expensive setups to do this. This can be franchised anywhere in the world with an existing standard hi-res CCTV security camera feed,” he added. The team has plans to launch the second similar swing in Goa and then take the technology to other countries. “India, despite been world’s youngest country with 50 per cent population below 25, stands at 96th position in global Adventure Tourism Competitive Index (ATDI) 2020. That too is consistently decreasing since last 4 years. India ranks much lower than its neighbours, Bhutan (14th), and Nepal (67th). Especially, when there is a 178 per cent increase in demand of adventure activity in last 3 years. “Somewhere, India has failed to cultivate the culture of innovation in extreme adventure tourism. It’s Incredible India but not innovative India in terms of adventure tourism compared to its global potential. We already have been approached by Dubai government and talks are on at Switzerland too but plan is to launch in India first,” Soni said. The project which was conceptualised five years back was commercially registered last year as a start up. “We approached IIT Mandi with the idea and three months later we were an incorporated company with firs working prototype,” he added.

According to DailyMail, Brennand is married to Danielle Arnold, who was a part of the military. The couple married in July 2019, and it is not clear if she is still associated with the military. ADVERTISEMENT The duo has a baby boy, reportedly. According to his now-deleted-Linkedin account, Brennand previously served as a military dog handler in the US Army. He enlisted in 2016 and is currently stationed outside of Seattle.  ADVERTISEMENT ALSO READ Diamon Alvarez: Houston girl, 15, shot TWENTY-TWO times while walking her dog Ashley Dale: Woman, 28, shot dead at home in case of ‘mistaken identity’ just like brother seven years ago ADVERTISEMENT He also stated he is an “experienced working dog handler with a demonstrated history of working in the military industry”. The profile adds that he is “skilled in Law Enforcement, Operational Planning, Active DoD Secret Clearance, Military Operations, and Security.” The officer, now fired, has claimed that he has a degree in criminal justice and police science from Kaplan University, an online college. He graduated from the San Antonio Police Training Academy in 2021. Brennand is highly recognized for his commendable skills with a gun, finishing fourth in his class in the firearms discipline.  ADVERTISEMENT James Brennand joined the army only seven months back (James Brennand/ LinkedIn) His wife Arnold says on her Facebook page that she is attending online courses at Purdue University. The couple was married on July 12, 2019. Their child was born in August 2022. They bought a home together in San Antonio in July 2021, according to reports. Meanwhile, Erik’s condition has been listed as critical but stable. ADVERTISEMENT Danielle Arnold with their baby boy (James Brennand/ Facebook) A Texas prosecutor said in a statement Friday that he has not seen enough evidence to file charges against the teenager. “While Sunday’s shooting of an unarmed teenager by a then-San Antonio Police officer remains under investigation, the facts and evidence we have received so far led us to reject the charges against Erik Cantu for further investigation,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. ADVERTISEMENT Gonzales added, “This young man is in critical but stable condition in the hospital. There was some issue with his parents having extended contact with him. I understand it’s a touch-and-go situation.” At the time of the incident, Brennand had been in the service for only seven months and was fired on Wednesday, October 5. Gonzales also suggested, “That case is pending. We will have to wait until SAPD files the entire case in our office. We will then review it.” Further, he added, “My concern right now is with the health of this young man, with his parents’ ability to be by his side, and so that’s why we have done what we have done.” ADVERTISEMENT He also said, “It’ll take some time for SAPD to file the complete case with us and then we’ll make the decision. I commend the San Antonio Police Department for taking the action that they did for terminating this individual because, clearly, there was concern on their part. It is commendable that members of that department saw fit to terminate this individual,” the district attorney added. ADVERTISEMENT

Every item is independently selected by the HuffPost Shopping team. Prices and availability are subject to change. A travel backpack with a ton of room Promising review: “I love this bag! I bought it for my frequent two-to-three-day business trips. It holds everything I need for those trips with room to spare. I also packed it for vacation. It fit five pairs of shorts, five t-shirts, three polos, underclothes for five days, pajamas, swimsuit, and toiletries.” — Matthew B. Courtney An expandable hard-side carry-on with a fold-out front panel Promising review: “Holding up nicely. I’ve taken this little bag to Europe and on several domestic trips. It’s holding up very nicely. The wheels are good quality and the handle is durable. I am using this as a personal travel bag, but I am a flight attendant in my professional life. I wish I could use this bag for work (I have specific luggage that I must use), because I really like this bag. I do consider myself a luggage expert as I have basically been living out of suitcases and hotels for 28 years, so, please trust me when I tell you that Delsey makes a great bag. If you’re considering purchasing, go ahead. You won’t be disappointed.” — Wawa A Maxlite 5 soft-side expandable spinner from Travelpro that comes in a lot of colors Promising review: “Ideal luggage for the frequent three- to four-day trip traveler! I’ve had this suitcase for five months now and I have zero complaints. It is very lightweight but very durable. Every time I travel, I place a 30-lb backpack on top of it and the handle has had no trouble holding the weight when I drag it like a rollerboard. However, this is not a rollerboard – the spinner wheels are excellent and I love the flexibility it gives me in tight airport/plane spaces. I frequently travel on smaller regional planes (E175s, CRJs) and have never had an issue getting it in overhead bins, even with the expansion open. There’s plenty of room for a week’s worth of clothes, two pairs of shoes, a crossbody purse, and all of your toiletries in here. On top of that, I love the dusty rose color. This luggage was definitely an excellent investment and I highly recommend for the frequent three- to four-day trip traveler.” — Cassie Campbell An incredibly classy hard-side spinner with faux leather accents Promising review: “Been on three trips with this bag so far: Eight flights and being checked, I’m in love! Best suitcase I’ve ever had (and I’ve had several in the past few years). The inside is lined with very soft fabric and it works great with my packing cubes plus both sides have zip-up compartments which you never see, everything stays exactly where I put it, when I get to my hotel I can open it up and nothing has shifted at all! I check my bags most of the time but this is a carry on size so you can carry it on most domestic aircraft. I got the chocolate color because I don’t like white very much. There are a few minor scuffs now but you can only see them if you look very closely. It doesn’t tip over or forward, it’s very well balanced and you can fit a backpack on top. Rolls very well.” — Jessica A sleek packable duffel so you can expand your carrying capacity in mere seconds Promising review: “All-around awesome bag! This bag has SO MUCH ROOM. There are side pockets upon side pockets with some hidden pockets, too. The zippers are sturdy and inlaid, which helps make the bag waterproof. I haven’t tried to drown the bag yet, so I’m not sure if it’s 100% without a doubt fully waterproof, but I did get caught in light rain and nothing inside the bag was damp at all, so it’s at least moderately waterproof. The Velcro that closes the handles together is strong, and the shoulder strap is cushioned and comfortable. I’m not a huge fan of plastic hooks, but these seem to be very good quality so they’ve won me over. And did I already mention that I love love LOVE all of the pockets in this thing? It’s pretty, it has pockets everywhere, it’s sturdy, it’s at least mostly (if not fully) waterproof, it holds a ton of stuff, and it’s very comfortable to carry around. I’ve gone through a lot of travel bags in my day and this is by far the best one.” — AEScott Beis A Beis backpack both sleek enough for the classiest of business travelers Promising review: “The backpack of my dreams! I have been someone who loves to travel + worked fully remote, even pre-covid times. I like to travel on a budget, so that typically means cheap airlines with zero baggage allowance… just a backpack. THIS bag changes the game. Instead of having to unload the entire backpack to go through security, every important piece has its place. The laptop sleeve on the outside is just fantastic, and the inside compartments – it’s like a little suitcase!! I feel so stylish and put together when I use this backpack… it was a sad day to retire my purple Jansport (I am in my 30s and have used it since high school because I love it so much hah!) but this is truly such an upgrade – and did not break the bank. LOVE IT! I am now officially a Beis lifer… I can’t stop ordering new pieces now.” — Brigid S. A hard-side spinner in a fun and elegant pattern Promising review: “I do a lot of international travel. My bags always get beat up. I decided to buy this one hoping it’d live up to its great reviews. It did exactly that! The wheels make it easy to love throughout airports; the design made it easy to identify; it is light; compartments are great.” — Anastasia Price A heavy-duty hard-side spinner from Samsonite Promising review: “Great luggage for frequent traveling! This luggage is as good as everyone says. Samsonite will be my go-to for luggage needs in the future. I travel a lot for my job and it’s doing just wonderfully with the beating that the airport baggage handlers put it through. 10/10!” — Avram A classic canvas weekender with leather trim that’ll never go out of style Promising review: “After seven months and numerous vacations and weekends away, this bag is going on strong. A great size for carry on luggage as its big enough to pack a ton of stuff but still fit in the overhead compartment or under your seat. The outside pickets a perfect for storing quick access stuff such as a passport or phone charger/ear buds. The small feet keep it off the ground a bit if you have to set it down on the ground/sidewalk. The shoulder strap is nice and wide so even when packed full it doesn’t dig into your neck/shoulder and the rounded leather handles are comfortable when carrying. Overall an excellent weekend/carry-on bag.” — John S. A soft-side spinner so compact, it’ll fit right under the seat of most airplanes Promising review: “The best traveler ever! I love this underseat spinner! I use it all of the time. I travel for work a lot, and this suitcase allows me to pack for all short trips (usually three nights, but I’ve done it with three nights). I am short and I love that this suitcase is easy for me to handle. I also can use my briefcase (connecting) with it, so trips are really easy! I highly recommend this – the price is great and it has held up very well for the past two years.” — Dave A slick travel backpack built with technophiles in mind Promising review: “This bag is a must-have for travel! I’ve had this bag for almost two years, and I have to say it’s by far the best bag I’ve ever had. Durable, and can fit A LOT of items in here. I travel very frequently for personal and business and this bag is always my go-to. I got it for the designated laptop slot and USB port on the outside. To this day, I still haven’t had any problem with either. Your laptop is also VERY easily accessible. The only con I see with it is if you do have more heavier items, it can *sometimes* sag in the bottom. But that might just be me filling it past its intended weight. Other than that, best bag ever!” — Kodi & Rayne Away The Away Everywhere bag because light packers everywhere swear by it Promising review: “This bag is perfect. I bought it for my husband who runs half marathons, he travels once a month to do one in different locations. Usually gone for just one night and often with tight connections. This bag holds all his running gear a change of clothes and other essentials. Perfect for one or two nights.” — Kim W. A four-piece soft-side luggage set reviewers say can’t be beat in style and durability for the price Promising review: “Review after four years: Terrific luggage. Durable, roomy, and attention-getting. First off, the luggage looks very upscale; the front side is vibrantly colored, and the tightly woven fabric has a good fit and finish. There are two metal zipper pulls on each compartment which is convenient; however, the zippers themselves and the pull attachments are adequate but not of superior durability. The bags are generously sized, deeper than our previous set and this allows the bags to swallow a lot more stuff yet remain portable. The insides are fully lined and contain straps to secure the contents. While the lining is thin and not the highest quality, it is a nice feature on a set in this price range; our previous set cost twice as much fifteen years ago and had no lining. Each of the pull pieces has two nicely functioning wheels and an expandable handle to let you drag the bag behind; you can even attach the duffel bag onto an extended handle via a back strap.Overall, this set was a terrific buy for my family’s needs and sh...

100 And Counting: Pekin Woman Shares Secrets To Becoming A Centenarian – Pekin Daily Times https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/100-and-counting-pekin-woman-shares-secrets-to-becoming-a-centenarian-pekin-daily-times/ An important key to living to be 100 is obviously a healthy lifestyle. For Dot Schoch, who celebrated her 100th birthday this month, that lifestyle begins with an exercise regimen. “Every morning when I come in to work, Dot’s in our fitness area on a stationary bike,” said Kim Swise, director of sales for Cedarhurst of Pekin assisted living facility, where Schoch now resides. “She’s always got her eyes closed and she’s pedaling away. She stays active, and a body in motion stays in motion.” Schoch, of Pekin, said she has always done something to keep up her physical condition, focusing on activities like swimming and bicycling. She has also always been aware of the importance of a healthy diet that featured fresh produce grown in the garden she and her late husband, Larry, used to keep. And she believes that one secret to her longevity and continued health is that she knew what not to do. “I’ve never smoked, and I’ve never drank,” Schoch said. Although she no longer travels, some of her favorite memories include meeting new people when she and Larry took trips to Europe or to Florida. She also recalls the excitement around her when researchers at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research in Peoria, where she worked for 35 years, discovered a way to manufacture penicillin. “It was all you heard about at work,” Schoch said. “It ended up saving a lot of lives.” More:‘Woo-hoo!’ State-microbe designation would honor penicillin and Peoria In addition to a physically active lifestyle and a proper diet, Schoch believes social activity is a vital part of a long and full life. She is now a fixture at Cedarhurst bingo games and seldom misses a Cedarhurst movie night. “I like the musicals,” Schoch said. “I don’t care for Westerns. John Wayne’s good, but some of the movies are terrible. ‘Gone With the Wind’ is my all-time favorite.” Schoch’s 100th birthday on Oct. 4 began like any other day, with a session in Cedarhurst’s fitness area. From there, she went on to a busy round of meetings, media availabilities, birthday parties, and time with family members. Swise expressed some concern that Schoch might find the day’s busy schedule taxing, but Schoch’s great-niece, Susan Henning, maintained that she would have found a way to keep her social calendar full even without the milestone. “When we started the discussion about Dot moving into assisted living, I asked if there was one in the Peoria area where she had a lot of friends,” Henning said. ”She said, ‘That doesn’t matter. I can make more friends.’ I thought that was really sweet.”

F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2022 Result: Verstappen Named World Champion In Anticlimactic Fashion Sporting News
F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2022 Result: Verstappen Named World Champion In Anticlimactic Fashion – Sporting News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/f1-japanese-grand-prix-2022-result-verstappen-named-world-champion-in-anticlimactic-fashion-sporting-news/ Max Verstappen has claimed the 2022 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship in bizarre circumstances, winning a rain-affected Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutchman took the chequered flag under the impression that he would have to wait until the next race to secure his second successive title. Less than 75% of the race was completed, so the broad assumption was that reduced points would be awarded. However, full points were handed out, meaning Verstappen was confirmed as the world champion. In fact, the news was delivered to the Red Bull driver during his post-race interview with Johnny Herbert.  A number of incidents and heavy rain saw the race red-flagged after two laps, with drivers eventually re-entering the track after a long wait in pit lane. 40 minutes of action under a race timer then took place, with Verstappen able to quickly establish a dominant lead over Charles Leclerc.  A last-lap incident involving Leclerc and Sergio Perez saw the Monegasque driver drop to P3 after a penalty, confirming Verstappen’s title success. Elsewhere in the field, Nicholas Latifi claimed his first points of the season, whilst Esteban Ocon fought off Lewis Hamilton to finish in fourth. Like 2021, Max Verstappen’s 2022 title victory was filled with controversy and confusion. This time around, there is no disputing he was deserving of the win, but the decision to award full points after a shortened race raised eyebrows.  Verstappen needed to be 112 points ahead of his nearest rival following the race to secure the title in Japan.  Whilst the Japanese Grand Prix did not run for the full race distance, the fact it was restarted after the red flag meant full points could be handed out. The FIA cited Article 6.5 of the Sporting Regulations, where reduced points can only be awarded “if a race is suspended in accordance with Article 57 and cannot be resumed”. This decision meant Verstappen finished with an unassailable 113-point lead over Sergio Perez and 114 over Charles Leclerc. Nicholas Latifi scores first points of 2022 season Amid the chaos, Nicholas Latifi quietly claimed his first points of the current F1 season. The 27-year-old – who is departing Williams at the end of this year – crafted his way from P19 to P9, taking advantage of various safety car restarts and driving a strong race. The result moves the Canadian to 20th position in the driver standings, above Williams loan driver Nyck de Vries. Latifi was awkwardly trailing De Vries in the championship after the Dutchman scored points in Monza on his debut. Carlos Sainz fails to finish again Carlos Sainz fell victim to the tricky and wet conditions at Suzuka, crashing on the opening lap. He spun out and fizzed across the track at high speed, eventually crashing into the safety barriers. It was the Spaniard’s fifth DNF of 2022 in what has been an inconsistent and eventful season for him with the Scuderia.  Pierre Gasly furious at recovery tractor decision Following Sainz’s crash, a recovery tractor was brought onto the Suzuka Circuit track despite the fact that some drivers were still on track. At the rear of the pack due to starting from the pit lane, Pierre Gasly went past the tractor at high speed, leading to an angry reaction from the Frenchman on the radio and when he returned to the garage.  “Obviously I got scared. If I had lost the car the way Carlos lost it, it doesn’t matter the speed … I would’ve died,” Gasly told Sky Sports F1. The incident drew immediate comparisons to Jules Bianchi’s fatal accident at the same track. The tractor was brought out before all drivers had passed it. Pierre Gasly was visibly angry once he returned to the garage after he had to avoid the tractor in low visibility conditions. The onboard video of Gasly passing the recovery vehicle is terrifying. Something needs to change. pic.twitter.com/ldwszWgG9K — ESPN F1 (@ESPNF1) October 9, 2022 Lando Norris has even taken to Twitter to criticise the incident.  Wtf. How’s this happened!? We lost a life in this situation years ago. We risk our lives, especially in conditions like this. We wanna race. But this… Unacceptable. — Lando Norris (@LandoNorris) October 9, 2022 10 mins since restart suspension: Rain is falling pretty heavily now, so a restart might be a little while away. Crypto Week At A Glance: Bitcoins Dominance Rises; Swiss McD Accepts Crypto Economic Times
Crypto Week At A Glance: Bitcoin’s Dominance Rises; Swiss McD Accepts Crypto – Economic Times https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/crypto-week-at-a-glance-bitcoins-dominance-rises-swiss-mcd-accepts-crypto-economic-times/ The global crypto market has recovered a bit as compared to the past week. Bitcoin has failed to hold above $20,000 level the previous week due to lack of buying activity but has traded above its psychological support this week in line with equities. It seems like the market participants are on their risk appetite to start a new quarter. Bitcoin has traded sideways most of the week as investors return to more macroeconomic cautiousness. Even though Bitcoin successfully traded above $20,000, it struggled to move above it. Its dominance in the market, however, increased to 41 per cent from 39 per cent on September 10, 2022. This indicates that the market participants are choosing Bitcoin over other assets for its comparatively stable nature. The whale accumulation and the US dollar index rising to a 20-year high are the reasons for BTC’s growth in the past few days. The second largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, has been changing hands above the $1,300 level. Ethereum has been experiencing the heat of macroeconomic factors post the Merge. If Ethereum can close the week by trading above the $1,400 level, we might see an upward trend in the coming week. On Friday, Bitcoin dropped below the $20,000 level as markets are preparing for the release of the latest US non-farm payroll report. Bitcoin slipped as bearish sentiment returned to markets. Ethereum continued to consolidate ahead of the release. While other major altcoins were mixed, some traded in green while others in red. The volatility in the crypto market has increased in recent weeks as the market participants reacted to the rising inflation and fluctuations in the US dollar by moving away from riskier assets. In an interesting turn of events, Fidelity Investments has been the flagbearer of Ethereum investment among institutional players. The leading asset management company has collected $5 million and is exclusively open to qualified investors. The 40th Travel Marketplace is hosted at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan. It was the first to be held in person since 2020. The Marketplace is the premiere annual event to showcase the Caribbean’s offerings, with buys from 14 nations and suppliers from 21 regions and territories gathering for high-impact one-on-one business meetings, knowledge sharing, and networking. The Antigua and Barbuda delegation was led by the CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James, and the Executive Director of Antigua Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association – ABHTA, Patrice Simon. They were joined by the Director of Tourism, US, Dean Fenton, and Norrell Joseph, US Sales Officer, along with representatives from Elite Island Resorts, Blue Waters Hotel, Hermitage Bay, and Sun Tours. As a key delegation, Antigua and Barbuda was able to connect in one place with over 30 meetings with suppliers from and met with the top tour operators, airlines, travel agencies, OTAs, and multiple interviews with the media houses, as well as the top travel and trade publications in attendance. James spoke of the success of CHTA Travel Marketplace, “After a difficult two years, the tourism industry is seeing the pent-up demand for travel, and we’re delighted to say that Antigua and Barbuda is at the top of visitors list. We’ve seen unprecedented numbers in arrivals with air arrivals for the past three months, July to September surpassing air arrivals for the corresponding months in 2019, which was our best year. is important to support this growth by continuing to engage with key stakeholders, forge new business deals and promote everything the destination offers to businesses and visitors. We’ve been busy at work for the past two years, adding properties, products and attractions with renovations taking place in many. Travel Marketplace provides the vital opportunity to meet face-to-face with stakeholders from around the world selling Caribbean vacation packages and we are confident more visitors from around the world will be choosing Antigua and Barbuda in 2023.”

Draymond Green’s Apology News Conference: ‘I’m A Very Flawed Human Being’ – The Athletic https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/draymond-greens-apology-news-conference-im-a-very-flawed-human-being-the-athletic/ The Warriors practiced Saturday morning. Draymond Green didn’t. While his teammates were on the court, he was in an adjacent room delivering a 40-minute news conference apology for the practice punch seen around the world. What did we learn? Here’s a quick rundown. • Green was initially scheduled to return to the team in full Saturday, but the TMZ tape release, showing the ferocity of the punch and shaking the organization further, deepened the wound. Green is stepping away from the Warriors for at least a few days, saying he wanted to give the team space to heal without him before what he hopes is reconciliation together. Nobody has used the word suspension, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr called it a “mutual decision” to keep Green away and made it clear it’ll be an indefinite absence. Green is hinting that his desired return will come at some point next week but acknowledged he isn’t in control of the process. “No set date,” Kerr said. No public parameters for his return were given, either. “Nobody’s business but ours,” Kerr said. • Green was asked whether he will be there on opening night against the Lakers, when the team will get its championship rings. Green said he expects to play but qualified it, again understanding it isn’t his choice, no matter how much he’d like to speed up this process and leave this chapter behind. “Will I play?” Green said. “That’s a different story. It’s something we will figure out. … What the answer is, is to feel our way through this.

Soccer-Haaland helping draw best out of De Bruyne – Guardiola Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said Erling Haaland’s movements are helping Kevin De Bruyne perform to the best of his ability after the midfielder provided another assist in City’s 4-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Saturday. Haaland got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to grab City’s fourth goal after first-half strikes from Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden plus a volley after the interval from Riyad Mahrez. Tennis-Tiafoe and Fritz set up the all-American final in Tokyo Frances Tiafoe added a little more sparkle to his already glittering season by beating South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo 6-2 0-6 6-4 to set up an all-American final against Taylor Fritz at the Japan Open on Saturday. The American, who reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at the U.S. Open in September, reached his second title-decider of the season despite a poor second set in his victory. MLB roundup: Mariners storm back for a series-clinching win Adam Frazier hit a two-out RBI double in the ninth inning and the visiting Seattle Mariners overcame an 8-1 deficit Saturday to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-9 and clinch their American League wild-card series. The Mariners tied the second-biggest comeback in postseason history. The Philadelphia A’s overcame an eight-run deficit to win Game 4 of the 1929 World Series against the Chicago Cubs, and the Boston Red Sox escaped a seven-run hole in Game 5 of the 2008 American League Championship Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was also the biggest road comeback in postseason history. NFL-League, players agree to enhanced concussion protocols The National Football League (NFL) and its players’ association have agreed to enhanced concussion protocols after a head injury suffered by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa prompted widespread concern. A joint statement from the two parties on Saturday said ataxia – which includes abnormal balance, motor coordination or “dysfunctional speech” – would be added as a “no-go” symptom. Players diagnosed with ataxia during a game will not be allowed to return to the field. Soccer-Man City move top, Chelsea and Newcastle continue to rise, Spurs respond Manchester City continued their imperious home form by easing to a 4-0 win over Southampton while Chelsea and Newcastle United enjoyed comfortable victories and Tottenham Hotspur responded well after a difficult week to win at Brighton & Hove Albion. City, who had trounced Manchester United 6-3 last week, barely had to break stride against Southampton, with Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, and Riyad Mahrez netting before Erling Haaland struck the fourth goal to stretch his scoring streak to 10 straight matches in all competitions. Soccer-Liverpool’s Klopp banking on Salah to resume best form Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said he hopes forward Mohamed Salah will soon rediscover his best goalscoring form following a slow start to his Premier League campaign. Salah, who scored 23 league goals for Liverpool last season to share the Premier League golden boot with Son Heung-min, has failed to reach the heights he did in the previous campaign, having netted just two league goals. Soccer-Last-gasp Modeste goal rescues 2-2 draw for Dortmund against Bayern Borussia Dortmund’s Anthony Modeste headed in a last-gasp equalizer to complete a sensational two-goal comeback and snatch a 2-2 draw against visitors Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga’s Der Klassiker on Saturday. The 34-year-old Modeste, who had faced massive criticism after netting just once in the league following his arrival this season, headed in at the far post with the last touch of the game after also setting up their first goal, to rescue a point and keeping Bayern off top spot. Motor racing-Gasly fumes at recovery vehicle during wet Japanese Grand Prix Frenchman Pierre Gasly raged after driving at speed past a recovery vehicle sent out in heavy rain while the safety car was deployed at Sunday’s Formula One Japanese Grand Prix. The race was stopped shortly afterward. Rugby-Muzzo double earns Italy opening win over the United States Aura Muzzo scored a pair of tries as Italy fought back for a 22-10 win over the United States in their opening Pool B clash at the women’s Rugby World Cup on Sunday, while Wales secured a last-gasp win over Scotland in their Pool A contest. Hallie Taufoou’s fourth-minute try gave the Americans an early advantage in Whangarei in New Zealand, but Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi crossed for Italy before Muzzo’s double and a superb solo effort from Maria Magatti secured victory. Paralympics-Paris 2024 could be the best Games ever, says committee chief While accessibility to all is unrealistic for 2024, the Paris Paralympic Games have the potential to be the best ever and serve as a catalyst for global change, the head of the International Paralympic Committee said on Saturday. Andrew Parsons, visiting Paris for the first Paralympic day two years ahead of the Games on a sunbathed place de la Bastille, where thousands attended and experienced wheelchair fencing among other paralympic sports, told Reuters he is hoping Paris 2024 will help society to be more inclusive. New Industry PAC To Back Pro-Crypto Candidates Washington Examiner
New Industry PAC To Back Pro-Crypto Candidates – Washington Examiner https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/new-industry-pac-to-back-pro-crypto-candidates-washington-examiner/ October 09, 2022 03:00 AM A cryptocurrency industry group has formed a new political action committee at the end of the 2022 midterm election cycle with the hope of helping to form the next Congress’s view on the new industry. The Blockchain Association, a group that represents more than 100 organizations in the industry, formed its PAC in September 2022 with the hope of influencing and, in future election cycles, funding candidates interested in the cryptocurrency industry. REPUBLICAN ALLAN FUNG LEADS DEMOCRAT IN DEEP-BLUE RHODE ISLAND DISTRICT: POLL “If you are interested in having a conversation about crypto, we want to talk to you,” Executive Director Kristin Smith told the Washington Examiner. Smith worked as an aide on Capitol Hill for 10 years, with a focus on technology policy. She founded the association by herself in 2018 and has quickly expanded it to represent an assortment of entities within the industry, including Circle, Ledger, Ripple, and several others. The Blockchain Association PAC’s formation just last month means it won’t have any significant financial impact on the 2022 midterm elections, but it follows a massive surge in crypto lobbying and election funding. Super PACs with ties to the cryptocurrency industry have invested tens of millions into the 2022 races. Crypto-adjacent PACs invested more than $31 million into the 2022 primaries as of July, according to Federal Election Commission disclosures reviewed by Roll Call. At least two PACs are founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of the crypto exchange FTX. Crypto lobbying has also been on the rise. The industry spent at least $6.8 million lobbying Congress in the second quarter of 2022, according to Roll Call. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER The 2022 surge in crypto-funded lobbying and PACs was inspired by several debates in 2021 around President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure bill and crypto-related provisions, according to Smith. Biden had proposed new crypto reporting requirements that would cause a large change for anyone involved in digital wallet development or crypto miners. “What we saw last year with the infrastructure fight last summer is that people … woke up to the fact that, ‘Oh, wow, there’s people are talking about crypto on the floor of the United States Senate. I need to figure out how to be a part of that process,'” Smith said. When asked what races they were keeping an eye on, Smith mentioned the Senate campaigns of Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) — both, she said, have supported “good regulatory solutions for crypto.”

Maine Voices: A Pandemic Casualty: The Funeral Services That Allowed Us To Mourn – Press Herald https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/maine-voices-a-pandemic-casualty-the-funeral-services-that-allowed-us-to-mourn-press-herald/ In autumn, our hearts find comfort in the familiar words of Ecclesiastes. “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven / A time to be born and a time to die / A time to plant and a time to reap / A time to mourn … and a time to cry.” During the recent pandemic, when death raged all around us, one of the rituals I most missed was the opportunity to gather physically with other families as they mourned the loss of loved ones – and how those gatherings can knit us, emotionally, as one. Before the arrival of COVID-19, tragedy struck the commercial fishing community of Cape Porpoise, where I live, when two seasoned lobstermen lost their lives in a fatal accident at sea. The Coast Guard arrived too late to rescue them from their capsized boat. The men were not known to me, so I did not attend the memorial service at the local Legion Hall though the pall throughout the town in the aftermath of their loss was palpable. And I was struck, driving by that day, to see the overflow crowd that had gathered to pay their last respects. In the past when I have attended services at the local Church on the Cape, I have been struck at the role it has played in this village. The buoys of lobstering families, with familiar names from my childhood, festoon the slender entryway adjacent to the sanctuary. The congregation’s pleas are real – not metaphoric – when singing hymns to beseech the Almighty “to bid the mighty ocean deep / its own appointed limits keep / O hear us when we cry to thee / for those in peril on the sea.” In the spring of 2020, during the first months of quarantine, a neighbor passed away. He had worked for many years as a counselor alongside my mother at the local high school and lived across the street from my mother-in-law. The minister of the Church on the Cape at the time thoughtfully and heroically crafted a moving memorial – yet following COVID protocols, only immediate family were allowed to gather. Others, including children and grandchildren who lived across the country, were advised not to attend. It was the first memorial service I experienced virtually – filled with beautifully crafted video tributes, which we watched from our homes connecting us online, for a brief moment, in our separate locales. With the passing of seasons and the advent of vaccines and boosters, it is deemed safer now to gather together in larger numbers. I only recently attended my first post-COVID memorial service – held in a wood-paneled recital hall in a newly renovated building on the college campus of my alma mater in Brunswick. When I had been a student there, the building had housed an indoor pool, which one of the daughters of my late professor noted in her remarks. For it was there that her father – who’d been a towering professor of political theory on campus beginning in the 1960s – brought her and her sisters to the Friday afternoon faculty swim. She was standing in the shallow end, she reminded us, we were seated where deeper waters once beckoned. She commented how as a child it took her a long time to reconcile her father, “Professor John Rensenbrink,” with the man she knew as “Daddy.” “Daddy was a lot shorter,” she quipped. Or at least it seemed that way to her when he was playing silly games at home or pretending to be an underwater sea monster in the campus pool. We smiled through our tears as she and others shared such images and stories – and as we collectively bid farewell to a man who had meant so much to all of us. A time to laugh and a time to grieve – together again – physically, emotionally, and gratefully, as one. Invalid username/password. Please check your email to confirm and complete your registration. Blue Robotics Wins Award From Society Of Underwater Technology – Robotics And Automation News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/blue-robotics-wins-award-from-society-of-underwater-technology-robotics-and-automation-news/ October 9, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment The Society for Underwater Technology’s Gwyn Griffiths Award for Underwater Robotics has been won by Rustom (Rusty) Jehangir, founder and CEO of Blue Robotics, an ocean technology company based in Torrance, California. Neil Bose, chair of SUT’s Underwater Robotics Panel, and vice president (research), Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador’s University, says: “The standard of entries for the SUT’s Gwyn Griffiths Award for Underwater Robotics was extremely competitive this year, and the nominees of high calibre, which challenged the judges to select this year’s winner. “On behalf of the Panel, the judges and SUT, we would like to recognise the talent, innovation, and qualities of all the entrants working in underwater robotics.” On hearing the news of the Award, Jehangir said: “Wow! I’m honoured and humbled to receive this award bearing Gwyn Griffiths’ name, given all that he accomplished and contributed to the field of marine robotics. I consider this Award to be an honour for my whole team.” The submission nominating Rustom Jehangir for the Award stated: “Under Rusty’s vision and leadership, Blue Robotics has dramatically reduced the cost of ocean robotics, reshaped market expectations of ocean engineering components, enabled hundreds of new research efforts using turn-key affordable platforms, and empowered thousands of new learners to gain practical experience with ocean technology. “Blue Robotics is the exemplar of the current market trend that sees the cost of ocean robotics decreasing while the capabilities are increasing. This is double leverage and driving significant growth in the New Blue Economy.” Looking to the future, Rustom says: “We’re eight years into our journey and I’m having more fun than ever! I truly believe in our core mission of making affordable, capable components and systems to enable people to do more with marine robotics and we’re going to keep doing that. “We’ve learned a lot and we can keep doing it better and better. The ocean is a big place and there’s a lot of room to grow and a lot of opportunities.” You might also like… Reader Interactions You must log in to post a comment.

UTSA Expansion Is Essential To Transforming San Antonio San Antonio Report
UTSA Expansion Is Essential To Transforming San Antonio – San Antonio Report https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/utsa-expansion-is-essential-to-transforming-san-antonio-san-antonio-report/ It seemed fitting that the fifth edition of CityFest began with a panel tiled, “The Future of Downtown,” staged at UTSA’s Downtown Campus, with opening remarks delivered by UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. The future of San Antonio’s downtown seems inextricably linked now with the future of the UTSA Downtown Campus. If local leaders have often said, “great cities have great downtowns,” they now frequently add, “great downtowns have great universities.” Speaking about Eighmy’s commitment to attract 15,000 students to its downtown campus, San Antonio Assistant City Manager and CityFest panelist Lori Houston said, “Having so many (students with) backpacks downtown is going to be a game-changer.” Centro San Antonio CEO Matt Brown agreed: “A university is the heartbeat of downtown.” Texas 2036 Executive Vice President and event moderator A.J. Rodriguez, a lifelong downtown resident, posed an interesting hypothetical question to panelists as the Tuesday morning conversation neared an end: Imagine, if HemisFair 2068 is staged 100 years after the original world’s fair, what will locals and visitors alike find to be the most transformative development downtown? “This might be controversial, A.J., but I would like to see a reimagined River Walk for locals,” Greater:SATX CEO Jenna Saucedo-Herrera responded, who earlier in the program said the San Antonio workforce lacks the skills sets needed in a 21st century economy. Weston Urban co-founder and CEO Randy Smith didn’t hesitate to say that it will be the expansion of the UTSA Downtown Campus. “My answer would be a massive student body. Taylor has committed to 15,000 students downtown. … That has to come to pass,” Smith said, adding that a downtown alive with students is the “missing ingredient” for San Antonio. Many of them undoubtedly will be drawn to the university’s new School of Data Science, scheduled to open in January 2023, an addition spurred by Weston Urban Chairman Graham Weston’s $15 million gift. Eighmy caught my attention when he referenced a coming announcement in November of a $10.5 million naming gift for yet another downtown campus building. So far, neither the donor nor the school to be housed in the building have been announced, although it appears unrelated to UTSA’s recent acquisition of the Southwest School of Art and its historic campus. Taylor Eighmy, president of UTSA, speaks during a press conference on the campus of the Centers for Applied Science and Technology in November. Credit: Nick Wagner / San Antonio Report But Eighmy saved his biggest announcement for a Main Campus press conference on Thursday, when UTSA went public with its current capital campaign. Eighmy announced a $500 million goal by 2027, a deadline I bet Eighmy beats, with $311 million in gifts and pledges already in hand. Big gifts have helped drive UTSA’s “Be Bold for Our Future” campaign, the most ambitious in the university’s 53-year history. In addition to the Weston gift and the planned November announcement, Carlos and and Malú Alvarez donated $20 million for the university’s newly-renamed Carlos Alvarez College of Business in March 2021. Months later, billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $40 million for student scholarships, followed at year’s end by former Valero CEO and Chairman Bill Klesse and his wife Margie‘s donation of $20 million to the newly named Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design. Three major gifts in the space of nine months. In the years I attended UTSA as an undergraduate, the broader metro area and the city’s leading philanthropists did not embrace UTSA as the city’s public university. That has changed, beginning under former President Ricardo Romo, and accelerating under Eighmy. Leadership has been key, but so has the arrival of the Division I football program. I was a naysayer when creation of the football program first surfaced in 2006 and finally happened in 2009. I have never been so wrong. You don’t have to be a football fan to recognize the school spirit and Roadrunner culture created by the now-winning program. Home games at the Alamodome attract tens of thousands of students, alumni and local fans. I was shopping at a Home Depot on Thursday, wearing a UTSA Alumni Association T-shirt, when the cashier asked me if I was going to Saturday’s game. Her whole family was going, including, she noted with visible pride, her granddaughter, the Southside family’s first college-bound student. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who I interviewed at a CityFest VIP event held Wednesday at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, lighted up the audience when he described what football has done for the university and San Antonio. “Austin has a professional football team and it’s called UT, and San Antonio now has a professional football team and it’s UTSA!” Wolff declared, drawing sustained applause. 6 Real-Life Places You Can Visit Inspired By Your Favorite Fall Movies And TV Shows – The Everygirl https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/6-real-life-places-you-can-visit-inspired-by-your-favorite-fall-movies-and-tv-shows-the-everygirl/ Summer travel is all about sandy beaches and palm trees, and while we love a warm-weather vacay, travel doesn’t have to stop once the weather cools down. Fall getaways are an excellent way to use that leftover vacation time from summer. And if you need some inspiration for places to visit, might we suggest turning to your favorite fall movies and TV shows? After all, watching dreamy scenes of fall foliage and your favorite characters in their chunky sweaters and boots is enough to make anyone want to jump through the screen. So many fall movie and TV favorites take place in locations that perfectly capture the crisp feeling of autumn. Whether fall makes you long for a stroll through a picturesque small town or you’d rather run amok (amok, amok, amok!) through spooky historic streets, you can experience the magic of these places yourself. Here are six real-life places to visit this fall based on our favorite seasonal movies and TV shows. Salem, Massachusetts – Hocus Pocus There’s nothing more iconic than Salem, Massachusetts, in October. The New England town is, of course, home to the real-life witch trials of 1692 and served as the setting of the 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus. For anyone who obsessed over the Sanderson sisters’ campy outfits or longed to live in Max and Dani’s quirky house, Salem is a must-visit. You can tour several of the filming locations in present-day Salem. Visit Pioneer Village, a living history museum where the opening scenes were shot. Check out the Ropes Mansion, AKA Alison’s house. And don’t miss a peek inside Old Town Hall, made famous by Bette Midler’s rendition of “I Put A Spell On You” during the never-ending Halloween dance party. There’s now even an Airbnb modeled after the Sanderson sisters’ cottage! St. Helens, Oregon – Halloweentown If you’re a fan of the 1998 movie Halloweentown, don’t sleep on St. Helens, Oregon. The small town served as the primary filming location for the Disney Channel classic. Every year since, its riverfront district has transformed into the Spirit of Halloweentown for the month of October. The event is open to visitors 24 hours a day, just like any city. It includes attractions like a haunted house, a Halloween parade, and a giant pumpkin that stays lit for the entire month. There is so much to see and do. You’ll wish you had your very own Benny to taxi you around! Forks, Washington – Twilight Forks, Washington, is the real-life town that author Stephenie Meyer used as the setting of Twilight. Fans will find plenty to see and do in this rainy Pacific Northwest destination. Visit the Forever Twilight in Forks Collection, which houses many props and costumes from the film, including Bella’s graduation quilt and outfits that Bella, Edward, and Jacob wore on-screen. Then take a scenic drive around the town to see locations like the Swan residence and the Cullen house, all while taking in the beautiful landscape. In addition to all the Twilight sights, there are ample outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and camping. So be sure to pack your hiking boots, and don’t forget a raincoat! New York, New York – You’ve Got Mail New York has served as the setting for tons of iconic movies, but when it comes to feel-good fall romantic comedies set in NYC, You’ve Got Mail takes the cake. Nora Ephron set this classic tale in the Upper West Side. Even though a lot has changed since the film’s 1998 release, there are still a few spots that have stood the test of time. Be sure to grab a coffee at Cafe Lalo, the spot where Kathleen Kelly sits and waits (and waits and waits … ugh, my heart!) for NY152 to show up. Then, take a walk through Riverside Park, where Kathleen learns that her online friend and crush has been her nemesis, Joe Fox, all along. And although the interior of The Shop Around the Corner was shot in a studio, see if you can spot the storefront (now a dry cleaner) along West 69th Street where the exterior shots were filmed! Washington, Connecticut – Gilmore Girls The quirky Connecticut town that Lorelai and Rory Gilmore called home in the show Gilmore Girls is, unfortunately, completely fictional. But real-life Connecticut is oozing with New England charm à la Stars Hollow. In fact, the town of Washington is said to be the spot that inspired the show itself. Splurge and stay at the Mayflower Inn and Spa, the gorgeous locale that reportedly inspired Star Hollow’s Independence Inn. In the morning, take a five-minute drive to Marty’s Cafe for coffee, breakfast, and all the Luke’s Diner vibes. Then check out more places that inspired locations in the show, like the Washington Food Market and the Hickory Stick Bookshop. It’s the perfect fall weekend if you want to slow down and soak up all the small-town loveliness that Stars Hollow—I mean Washington, Connecticut—has to offer! Coupeville, Washington – Practical Magic About a two-hour drive and a ferry ride away from Seattle, you’ll find the picturesque town of Coupeville on Whidbey Island. This is where Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, and Stockard Channing filmed the cult classic Practical Magic. Whether you’ve always wanted to know what it would feel like to be an Owens sister witch, or you simply have a thing for charming seaside towns, Coupeville delivers. In between beach walks and small-town boutique shopping, be sure to pick up pastries at Little Red Hen Bakery. This served as the filming location for Sally’s shop, Verbena Botanicals. Then, have dinner at Toby’s Tavern, which fans will recognize as The Catch and Fry. Practical Magic is not only a celebration of love and all things mystical, but the film also champions supportive and powerful women, making it the perfect inspiration for a fall girls’ trip.

Ghana Hosts Third Learning And Development Africa Conference Ghana Business News
Ghana Hosts Third Learning And Development Africa Conference – Ghana Business News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/ghana-hosts-third-learning-and-development-africa-conference-ghana-business-news/ Ghana has hosted the first hybrid and the third Learning and Development Africa Conference on the theme: “Leaving No One Behind in Learning and Development-The Practicalities.” The conference explored possibilities to empower the corporate world to use Learning and Development practitioners in Africa to achieve an all-inclusive programme and use dialogue and experience sharing to encompass diversity in learning programmes. The first hybrid and third Learning and Development Africa Conference also explored the potential to invest in learning and development while ensuring that no individual was left behind. Speaking at the conference, Mrs Margaret Jackson, Convener for Learning and Development Africa (L&D), called on the corporate world to inculcate inclusion and diversity in their learning programmes for staff as part of capacity building. Mrs Jackson said the topics tackled in the two-day conference included re-strategizing for L&D in light of the global trends, and how to prevent the great talent exodus in organizations. She said participants were also equipped on using technology for wider accessibility and promoting diversity and inclusion, and the role of using mobile apps, among others, in micro-learning, as well as the use of L&D as a tool to build and support a Neurodiversity workforce. Mrs Jackson explained the gender lens perspective, empowering employees with disabilities, employee upscaling, and reskilling, and how to manage generational diversity at the workplace, among others, were discussed. Mrs Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, Chief Executive Director of the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), delivering a keynote address, said the world was changing and the only way for people and organizations to rise to the challenge was to continuously learn and develop themselves. Mrs Yankey-Ayeh noted that to reshape the future of the country, it was important to learn at all times. She, therefore, called on Learning and Development practitioners to think of how they would utilize digital tools for everyone to benefit from learning to fit into the current evolving scope of work. She said there was a need for designing new solutions for learning and development for the youth, women and persons with disability. Mrs Yankey-Ayeh stated that “the youth can’t be left behind, the way they do things has changed, they now sit on their phones for long, how do we take learning to them using digitalized tools.” Dr Peter Bamkole, the Director of the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, Nigeria, speaking on brain drain said some of the reasons for professionals leaving the African continent was economics. He explained that economic hardship was forcing many to seek better lives in developed countries. Dr Bamkole said health was another push factor, stating for instance, that during the covid-19 era people were worried about their health and travelled outside for care as Africa was the last continent to get a vaccine. He indicated that other reasons were social, family related, as well as peer influence. He added that Covid-19 did not necessarily change things happening in Africa such as brain drain but rather accelerated what was there and brought to the fore what people were not seeing as learning and development practitioners. He said it was the responsibility of practitioners to understand and develop new strategies for their staff as people now want flexibility at work without restrictions as they now want to do remote working. Dr Bamkole urged the management of organizations to treat their staff differently based on their outputs and give them the flexibility to work instead of boxing them all together with policies adding that “when the mind is at peace, talents will flourish.” Source: GNA

Healthy Cities Status Shows Qatars Efforts To Improve Living Standards The Peninsula
‘Healthy Cities’ Status Shows Qatar’s Efforts To Improve Living Standards – The Peninsula https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/healthy-cities-status-shows-qatars-efforts-to-improve-living-standards-the-peninsula/ Doha: All municipalities of Qatar recently received the title of ‘Healthy Cities’ by World Health Organization (WHO). The achievement came as a result of efforts made by the Ministry of Municipality in coordination with municipalities and other authorities concerned to improve the quality of life of people in the country. The Healthy Cities initiative of WHO was conceived with the goal of placing health high on the social and political agenda of cities by promoting health, equity and sustainable development through innovation and multisectoral change. “These efforts contributed to the achievement of this accreditation by Qatari cities. Most notable of these efforts is the implementation of a comprehensive urban development plan for Qatar and the effective and directed investment in infrastructure projects in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030, the National Development Strategy, and the Sustainable Strategy of the Ministry of Municipality,” said Assistant Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Mansour Abdullah Zaid Al Mahmoud. He said Qatari cities are characterised by the presence of multiple and interconnected utility networks, with large green spaces, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and various means of welfare for the population, which had a significant impact on improving the health of community members, both physically and psychologically. He said the Ministry has worked hard within the framework of its strategic plan to raise the standard of services and health and environmental conditions, in addition to activating the partnership with various community institutions, through awareness programmes, activities, and health and environmental projects to build sustainable habits.
