Organizers Inaugurate Bid To Amend City Charter, Decriminalize Abortion And Ban Chokeholds – Texas Public Radio https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/organizers-inaugurate-bid-to-amend-city-charter-decriminalize-abortion-and-ban-chokeholds-texas-public-radio/ Published October 18, 2022 at 5:26 PM CDT A coalition of local and state organizations announced a new city charter amendment on the steps of City Hall on Tuesday — the San Antonio Justice Charter. If passed, the amendment would decriminalize low-level marijuana possession and abortions, expand cite-and-release for nonviolent misdemeanors, ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants and appoint a justice director to oversee city policy. The push for the San Antonio Justice Charter is being led by ACT 4 SA, a local organization dedicated to pushing for police accountability through community action and policies, and Ground Game Texas, a statewide progressive organizing group. Ananda Tomas, the founder and executive director of ACT 4 SA, said the reforms proposed in the amendment need to be passed for moral and fiscal reasons. “This initiative will amend the city charter of San Antonio to adopt a justice policy that will reduce unnecessary arrests and save scarce public resources,” she added. Tomas explained that the amendment is what members of the community want and need. “This sweeping reform will save thousands from being jailed for nonviolent, low-level offenses, keeping families together, fighting deportations and keeping the community out of systems that ruin lives that do little to rehabilitate or help folks,” she said. Julie Oliver, the co-founder of Ground Game Texas, emphasized the need for the city charter to explicitly decriminalize abortions, despite the fact that city leaders including District Attorney Joe Gonzales and Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar have said they won’t prosecute over abortions. “I keep saying, a doctor should not have to call his criminal defense attorney before providing lifesaving care to somebody who’s pregnant,” Oliver said. Josh Peck / Texas Public Radio Community members sign the petition to get the San Antonio Justice Charter on the May ballot at a table in front of City Hall. The piece of the amendment to decriminalize low-level marijuana possession would eliminate citations and arrests for Class A and Class B possession misdemeanors, with few exceptions. Chokeholds and no-knock warrants — the practice of entering people’s homes using a warrant without first notifying them, which played a role in Breonna Taylor’s death in 2020 — are already effectively prohibited by the San Antonio Police Department, though there are some caveats for both. This amendment would codify the bans into the city charter. The charter amendment also creates the position of Justice Director, appointed by the City Council and mayor, to fulfill the policies contained in the amendment and to oversee all city policies related to “the City’s contribution to mass incarceration, mitigating racist and discriminatory law enforcement practices, and saving scarce public resources for greater public needs.” The Justice Director would provide the council with a justice impact statement before council votes that affect these issues, including the annual budget and contract negotiations related to the San Antonio Police Department. They would also publish an annual justice impact statement for city activities and hold quarterly meetings for public stakeholders, SAPD, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. The petition for the amendment requires 20,000 verified signatures by January to make it on the May municipal ballot. Aaron Arguello, a San Antonio Advocacy Organizer with MOVE Texas, said his organization was feeling a grassroots push for these types of reforms. “We’re seeing and hearing first-hand that young people overwhelmingly want to see an end to mass incarceration,” he said. Tomas formerly served as the deputy director of Fix SAPD, the organization that pushed for a municipal proposition in 2021 called Prop B. It would have eliminated the police department’s ability to collectively bargain. Prop B fell short by two points. She said that experience has given her and coalition members confidence that they can get another amendment on the ballot. Yes! Yes! YES! If you are a registered voter in San Antonio, let’s get you signed on to the petition https://t.co/4Kd6LkXty2 — Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez (@theloserteacher) October 18, 2022 “Based on past initiatives I’ve seen, this is probably far more popularly supported, so I really think that we’re going to get on the ballot and get on the ballot more quickly than we think, and we’re gonna see a positive response from the community once we’re on the ballot and win this thing,” Tomas said. Organizers said they felt they needed to propose a city charter because the city council had failed to make the changes they saw as necessary. “Our leadership, our bureaucracy is no longer going to be a blockade,” Tomas said. “We are legislating ourselves and pushing through something that we’ve been asking for years.” District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez was quick to voice his support for the initiative on Twitter and encouraged constituents to sign the petition. Tomas and Oliver were joined by representatives from the San Antonio AFL-CIO, MOVE Texas, S.A. Stands, Bexar County Young Dems, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the San Antonio Immigrants Legal Resource Center, Radical Registrars, Black Freedom Factory and the Working Parties Family Texas for the announcement. People may read a copy of the charter amendment language or sign the petition on Ground Game Texas’ website.

20 Beachy Looks That Will Inspire Your Next Summer Trip Glam
20 Beachy Looks That Will Inspire Your Next Summer Trip Glam
20 Beachy Looks That Will Inspire Your Next Summer Trip – Glam https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/20-beachy-looks-that-will-inspire-your-next-summer-trip-glam/ Look Studio/Shutterstock When you think about going on vacation, do you picture yourself laying out on a beach? According to Travel + Leisure, Florida, Panama, Mexico, and Greece are all home to beautiful beaches and are popular and affordable vacation spots. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, a solo escape, or a trip with friends, a beach vacation is typically always a good time because it’s easy to wind down and relax. There’s nothing bustling and rushed at the beach; it’s a stark contrast to a busy office environment. When the water is clear and the sand is soft, the beach feels even more magical.  Something else that makes a beach trip fun is being able to wear your favorite beachwear looks. Obviously a swimsuit is a given, but what else are you going to wear to give off beach vibes? According to Mood Designer Fabrics, fashion is all about keeping up with ever-changing trends and knowing what’s popular at any given moment; it can be fickle, but that’s what makes it so fun. Here are some fabulously trendy pieces you can add to your beachy look. Criss-cross crop top Red Umbrella and Donkey/Shutterstock There’s something very flirty and fun about wearing a crop top. And criss-cross crop tops up the sultry factor because they reveal even more skin, which is perfect for the beach. Look to La’Mazi on Instagram for style inspo. The brand’s criss-cross crop tops are just revealing enough without being vulgar. Off-the-shoulder top Roman Samborskyi/Shutterstock If you’re wearing a bandeau-style bikini, an off-the-shoulder top or dress can make a cute cover-up. The style is figure-flattering and breezy, as evidenced by options from UK-based brand Lindsay Brown on Instagram. This style can really look great on anyone.  Off-the-shoulder tops can also be paired with jean shorts, mini skirts, or flowy maxi skirts for plenty of outfit variation. Mini skirt Roman Samborskyi/Shutterstock Mini skirts show off your legs in a fun and flirty way and are perfect for warm beach days. You can easily throw on a bikini under your mini and be on your way. Another plus about mini skirts is that they also come in a huge assortment of colors and patterns, like the ones designed by Debbie Dannheisser Threads on Instagram. Crochet crop top Alena Ozerova/Shutterstock There’s something very bohemian about a crochet crop top and it would definitely make a statement. Look to Spirit + Thread on Instagram for styling ideas. The brand’s orange crochet crop top is absolutely perfect for a trip to the beach. The best part about wearing a crochet crop top is that you can accessorize it with stunning boho-style jewelry, such as feathery earrings and necklaces, and stacked turquoise bracelets and rings.    Backless romper Comparable to sundresses, but way more unexpected, backless rompers are great for beach days. While wearing one, you can show off your back in a way that’s both chic and sexy, and catch some sun. Influencer @susyydarling_ on totally rocks the look on Instagram. Pair your romper with your bikini, and cute shoes and jewelry. Cut-out dress Vladimir Sukhachev/Shutterstock Cut-out dresses are sexy and bring the drama. Consider one the next time you’re enjoying a warm, summer beach day. Just as trendy as cut-out crop tops, cut-out dresses give the illusion of concealing more of your stomach, hips, and legs. Just slightly, though. Options from LadyTee Collection LLC on Instagram are giving total vacay vibes. Short sundress Sundresses come in all shapes and sizes, but short sundresses are a top-of-the-line choice when it comes to the perfect beach day attire. Influencer Isabela shares plenty of sundress styles on Instagram for her 220K+ followers. Her red sundress, shown above, had material that cinched in the stomach area to create the appearance of a flawlessly snatched waist. She accessorized it with a simple necklace. Ripped jean shorts fitzcrittle/Shutterstock It’s common to see people wearing denim shorts to the beach. But when these denim shorts are a bit ripped and rugged, they often appear even trendier than basic jean shorts. This acid wash pair shown by South + Main Boutique on Instagram would look great with swimsuits or tees. Sleeveless vest G Allen Penton/Shutterstock A sleeveless vest might be an unexpected piece of clothing to add over a bikini before your next trip to the beach, but it works, trust us. Look for colorful prints and light fabrics like linen or crochet. This option from The Tickled Pink Boutique on Instagram would be perfect. And because your arms and shoulders won’t be covered by any fabric, they’ll be free to catch some sun as soon as you leave the car. Just don’t forget the sunblock. Ruffle-trim shorts Fab_1/Shutterstock When you’re dressed in clothing that makes you feel good on the outside, you generally start feeling good on the inside out to match that vibe. And fun and flirty ruffle-trim shorts can definitely put you in a good mood. Like this blush pair by Saskia featured on Instagram, they also look great on the beach and are comfortable to throw on over your swimsuit. Belted romper Victoria Chudinova/Shutterstock Rompers look cute when worn to picnics and park dates, but they also look fabulous when worn to the beach. The belt helps to define your waistline and the loose fabric is comfortable and will keep you cool when temps rise. We’re loving this light and airy look from Cocowillow on Instagram. Loose shawl Juice Flair/Shutterstock Want to feel covered up at the beach while still having the ability to show off some skin at times? Look no further than a fashionable shawl to do the trick. Shawls complete any beach day look, and are available in many different color combinations and fabric weights. Mungo’s beach shawls, as featured on Instagram, come in gorgeous prints and are versatile enough to be used as towels. Maxi dress Edward Berthelot/Getty Images One thing that makes maxi dresses great to wear to the beach is the way they flow with the wind to give off a laidback, breezy vibe. Maxi dresses are long and loose enough to be flattering on all body types, so feel encouraged to rock one confidently. This colorful option from S/W/F on Instagram just screams beach day. T-shirt dress Seeing a T-shirt-turned-dress on someone like influencer Becciabey on Instagram is your inspiration to try out this cute style for a day at the beach. T-shirt dresses are known to be casual and fun, which means you never look like you’re trying too hard when you pull one of these out of your closet. And using an actual tee as your dress is fashion innovation at its best.  Tennis skirt There are no laws written in any rule books stating that tennis skirts are reserved only for tennis courts. Influencer Natalie King makes her own personal tennis skirt look gorgeous on Instagram. And you can totally adapt the look for a day of fun in the sun. Just add a swimsuit and water!  Cargo skirt Edward Berthelot/Getty Images Cargo skirts are all the rage in the world of fashion these days. When people think of cargo material, they typically think of cargo shorts or pants, but skirts deserve just as much love, especially if you choose to wear them at the beach. On Instagram, Fntsyangels noted a few iconic examples of cargo skirts and the different ways they can be styled. Wearing them with a bikini is definitely the way to go. Fishnet dress Edward Berthelot/Getty Images Since fishnet dresses cover you up without actually covering you up, they create a very flirty and fun illusion. According to Hidden Fashion on Instagram, fishnet dresses make staying home look good, but dresses this bold don’t deserve to be hidden away inside your house. A great place to rock one of these would be at the beach so that it reveals the details and color of your swimsuit underneath. V-neck tank top Edward Berthelot/Getty Images A v-neck tank top shows off your arms, shoulders, chest, and back, while still giving your midsection some coverage. Influencer Kiarra Brooke’s v-neck tank top on Instagram proves that this style is a total winner. Try wearing a simple black or white v-neck tank top to the beach with a colorful bikini. It will totally pop.  Oversized button-up When Instagram model Mecah May Wirht opened up on Instagram about wearing oversized button-ups during her pregnancy, she started a fashion movement. Oversized button-ups aren’t just reserved for women who are expecting a baby, though. They can be worn for a fun beach day since they are so easy to throw on and pull off, and very forgiving. The casual comfort and style of an oversized button-up are undeniable. Floral prints Roman Samborskyi/Shutterstock Most fashion lovers who care about keeping up with trends know that beachwear is all about floral print. Floral print belongs on anything and everything you might choose to wear to the beach, from accessories and cover-ups to shoes and swimsuits, just like this adorable bikini from Kamoni on Instagram. When you wear a floral print to the beach, you’re embodying a sense of nature’s beauty.

Metaverse Startup Flowing Cloud Lists In Hong Kong Flat R&D Investment Raises Concern Pandaily
Metaverse Startup Flowing Cloud Lists In Hong Kong Flat R&D Investment Raises Concern Pandaily
Metaverse Startup Flowing Cloud Lists In Hong Kong, Flat R&D Investment Raises Concern – Pandaily https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/metaverse-startup-flowing-cloud-lists-in-hong-kong-flat-rd-investment-raises-concern-pandaily/ AR and VR services provider Flowing Cloud was officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on October 18 as its first metaverse-related stock, with an opening price of HK$2.21 ($0.28) per share, equal to the issue price. However, shares then saw a 2.36% fall to HK$2.07 on October 19, resulting in a total market value of about HK$3.747 billion. Flowing Cloud’s prospectus is rather striking, as it mentions “metaverse” more than 300 times. Founded in 2008, Zhangzhong Feitian Technology, the predecessor of Flowing Cloud, was listed on the National Equities Exchange and Quotation (NEEQ) in 2017. It was aimed at the mobile game market, then gradually turned to AR and VR, withdrawing from the NEEQ in 2019. In 2021, when the metaverse concept suddenly became a hit, the company built a new platform and in November changed its name to Flowing Cloud, announcing its strategic layout in the metaverse field. AR and VR devices, as front-end entrances to the metaverse, are full of potential again. Flowing Cloud stated in its prospectus that AR and VR are the key applications to achieve and empower the immersive experience of the metaverse, and that they are the prerequisites and entry thresholds for its development stage. Therefore, AR and VR marketing services have now become the most important source of income for Flowing Cloud. According to data from iiMedia Research, Flowing Cloud ranks first in the AR/VR content and services market in terms of revenue, accounting for a 2.6% total market share in 2021. (Source: Flowing Cloud) From 2019 to 2021, its AR/VR marketing services business achieved revenues of 137 million yuan ($18.9 million), 142 million yuan and 376 million yuan respectively, accounting for 54.6%, 41.9% and 63.2% of its current revenue. In addition, AR/VR content business achieved revenues of 45 million yuan, 115 million yuan and 161 million yuan, accounting for 18.1%, 33.9% and 27.1% of the current revenue. In addition to the above business, the company also provides AR/VR SaaS and IP business. Financial data show that from 2019 to 2021, Flowing Cloud’s revenue was 250 million yuan, 339 million yuan and 595 million yuan respectively, and its net profit increased year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2022, the company’s net profit was 40.2 million yuan, up 316% year-on-year, of which the gross profit margin of AR/VR content production business reached 55.3%. Its impressive performance has attracted several key investors for Flowing Cloud. Through its recent listing, Flowing Cloud introduced cornerstone investors such as Anji State-Owned Assets Management, Qicai Lingfeng and SenseTime. The three parties subscribed to the offering shares of Flowing Cloud of about 167 million yuan in total. However, stagnant R&D investment that does not match income growth has caused Flowing Cloud to be called into question. In 2019, 2020, 2021 and the first quarter this year, the R&D expenditure of Flowing Cloud was 11.425 million yuan, 15.046 million yuan, 21.703 million yuan and 8.152 million yuan respectively, accounting for only 4.6%, 4.4%, 3.6% and 3.6% of the total revenue in the same period, showing a decreased trend. SEE ALSO: Shanghai’s Hongkou District Subsidizes Metaverse Startups With Up to Nearly $28K In its prospectus, the company stated that the underlying technology is its core competence, and in the past, the company subcontracted non-core technology development and interactive content modules to third parties. Its R&D team has 59 full-time employees, including 28 engineers and 21 designers, accounting for about 43.1% of all employees. Although Flowing Cloud seems to be oriented squarely within the metaverse field after a name change, many have doubted the extent to which metaverse represents its core business. Investors noticed many expectations and goals rather than real achievements in the firm’s prospectus. Thus, there is still a long way to go from concept to application.

23 Big IPhone Features And Improvements On IOS 16.1 IOS & IPhone :: Gadget Hacks Gadget Hacks
23 Big IPhone Features And Improvements On IOS 16.1 IOS & IPhone :: Gadget Hacks Gadget Hacks
23 Big IPhone Features And Improvements On IOS 16.1 « IOS & IPhone :: Gadget Hacks – Gadget Hacks https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/23-big-iphone-features-and-improvements-on-ios-16-1-ios-iphone-gadget-hacks-gadget-hacks/ It hasn’t been long since Apple released iOS 16.0 with over 350 new features, but iOS 16.1 is hot on its tail with even more cool updates for your iPhone. While some of the recent upgrades were expected, others are somewhat surprising — and there’s even one that you may not even think was possible. Apple’s iOS 16.1 update is still in beta testing, but you can install the beta on your iPhone right now if you want to start testing the below features out before everyone else. However, Apple will release iOS 16.1 to everyone on Oct. 24, so it might be best to wait for the stable update if you’re not already a part of beta testing. (Some of these features also appear on iPadOS 16.1 for iPad, also still in beta.) Don’t Miss: Apple Photos Has 21 New Features for iPhone That Make Your Life Easier 1. Larger Numbers for Battery Percentage On iOS 16.0, Apple finally added a switch in the Battery settings on Face ID devices to enable the battery percentage in the status bar, something Touch ID devices have long been able to do. The update put the percentage inside the battery icon, and iOS 16.1 makes the numbers larger and easier to see. Below, you can see the icons before and after in light and dark modes. 2. Battery Percentage for More iPhones While iOS 16.0 lets us add the battery percentage to the battery icon in the status bar on Face ID devices, it’s not available on all Face ID models. Specifically, the iPhone XR, 11, 12 mini, and 13 mini are left out, presumedly because of their smaller displays. The iOS 16.1 update adds support for those models, so now all iPhone models that can run iOS 16 can get the new battery icon. 3. Clean Energy Charging Go to Settings – Battery, then open up the “Battery Health & Charging” menu, previously just “Battery Health,” and you’ll see a new option called “Clean Energy Charging.” Apple says your iPhone “will try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon emission electricity is available.” It goes on to say your iPhone “learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach full charge before you need to use it.” The setting should be automatically enabled by default, but the “Learn More” link goes to a non-existing webpage, which should go live when iOS 16.1 stable is released. 4. Live Activities Live Activities are finally here. They appear on the bottom of your iPhone’s lock screen, as well as in the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, and display an app’s most current data, updated in real time. Live sports games in the Apple TV app is one example of what Live Activities can do. Pick a live game available in your region from the Live Sports section, then tap the “Follow” button. You’ll then see the play-by-play and real-time scores on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max. Right now, I can only get it to work with MLB games. According to Apple, a Live Activity can only be active for up to eight hours in the Dynamic Island, but it can go as long as 12 hours on the lock screen. So on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, a Live Activity would disappear from the Dynamic Island after eight hours but remain on your lock screen for up to four more hours. Needless to say, you can stop following a Live Activity at any time. There are also four different viewing modes for Live Activities in the Dynamic Island: a compact leading view, a compact trailing view, a minimal view, and an expanded view. 5. Live Activities API Live Activities aren’t just available for Apple’s apps — any third-party developer can incorporate them into their apps using the new ActivityKit framework. Examples of activities you could track include a ride pickup from Uber or Lyft, package delivery from UPS or FedEx, food delivery from GrubHub or DoorDash, pickup order for Starbucks or Target, workout using Nike or Health, and so on. While developers are now building Live Activities for their apps, you won’t be able to try any out until the iOS 16.1 stable release appears. That’s because developers can’t submit their updated apps with Live Activities to the App Store until the iOS 16.1 Release Candidate is available, the last beta build. You may be able to find beta apps on TestFlight that are experimenting with Live Activities. 6. Download In-App Content Before First Launching Apps There’s a new toggle in Settings – App Store for “In-App Content,” which will “automatically run apps in the background to download content before you first launch them” when enabled. You’ll notice the change mostly in games and navigation apps that need a lot of resources to run correctly. The App Store has file size limits, but developers can push the required resources after the initial app installation. It is unclear if the feature only applies during the app’s initial installation or if it can also install new in-app content in the background after manually or automatically installing an app update. After installing the iOS 16.1 update, this toggle should be enabled by default. Before (left) and after (right) the iOS 16.1 update. 7. Subscribe to Fitness+ Without Apple Watch Before iOS 16.1, you had to have an Apple Watch to subscribe to Fitness+ in the Fitness app. Now, you don’t need one, but you’d be missing out on all the health and fitness metrics displayed on the Apple Watch during a workout. If you don’t care about that data and just want to follow along to a workout session, Fitness+ is now a viable option. 8. New Shortcut Actions The iOS 16.0 update added almost 60 new actions in the Shortcuts app, and iOS 16.1 throws a few more in. The first is “Get Current Focus” for the Settings app, which returns the currently active focus. The second is “Search in Shortcuts” for the Shortcuts app, which opens Shortcuts and performs a search for the specified text. And the third is “Open Smart List,” which opens a specific smart list in Reminders. More Info: iOS 16.1 Has Important Changes for Shortcuts — Here’s Everything You Need to Know 9. Better Categories for Shortcut Icon Glyphs On iOS 16.0.3. and earlier, whenever choosing a shortcut icon, the icon picker would categorize all the glyphs by Objects, People, and Symbols — that’s it. (Left GIF below.) With such few groups, it’s better just to use the search tool. On iOS 16.1, there are now categories for Accessibility, Arrows, Automotive, Camera & Photos, Commerce, Communication, Connectivity, Devices, Editing, Fitness, Gaming, Health, Home, Human, Indices, Keyboard, Math, Media, Nature, Objects, Objects & Tools, People, Privacy & Security, Shapes, Symbols, Text Formatting, Time, Transportation, and Weather, not necessarily in that order. (Right GIF below.) Before (left) and after (right) the iOS 16.1 update. 10. Glyphs for Shortcuts Show in Multiple Categories With almost 30 categories now for glyphs in the Shortcuts app, there’s bound to be some overlap, and Apple doesn’t try to pigeonhole icons into one grouping. For example, if you need the sun glyph, you’ll find it listed under the Nature, Weather, and Keyboard categories. However, Apple also removed 100 glyphs and icon choices, though they may appear again in a future software update. For a complete list of glyphs that show up in multiple categories, as well as all the missing glyphs, check out our guide on Shortcuts’ iOS 16.1 update. 11. Delete Apple Wallet If you don’t use Apple Pay, Apple Cash, Apple Card, or store loyalty cards and tickets in Apple Wallet, you can finally delete the Apple Wallet app. Before, you could only remove it from the home screen, hiding it in the App Library, but now it can be gone for good. 12. Key Sharing in Wallet If you ever get a digital key stored in your Wallet app, such as one for your car or hotel room, you can now share them with other iPhone users using Messages, WhatsApp, and other messaging apps. And people can also share their keys with you. 13. Savings Account for Apple Card For those of you with an Apple Card, you can turn your Daily Cash into even more cash by depositing it into a high-yield savings account from the Wallet app. Goldman Sachs runs the accounts, and you can choose to have your Daily Cash automatically moved to it for immediate investment. Apple states that there are no fees, minimum deposits, or minimum balance requirements. Once users set up their Savings account, all future Daily Cash received will be automatically deposited into it, or they can choose to continue to have it added to an Apple Cash card in Wallet. Users can change their Daily Cash destination at any time. To expand Savings even further, users can also deposit additional funds into their Savings account through a linked bank account, or from their Apple Cash balance. Users can also withdraw funds at any time by transferring them to a linked bank account or to their Apple Cash card, with no fees. Once set up, Apple Card users can watch their rewards grow in Wallet through an easy-to-use Savings dashboard, which shows their account balance and interest accrued over time. 14. Lock Screen Customization Changes Apple is making the lock screen and home screen customization less confusing on iOS 16.1. Now, whenever you hit the “Customize” button for a lock screen in the lock screen switcher, it will give you a choice between editing the lock screen or home screen wallpaper. Previously, it would jump right to the lock screen editor when you tapped “Customize.” Then, when you were done editing it, you would get an option to “Set as Wallpaper Pair” or “Customize Home Screen.” You’ll still see those two options when adding a new lock screen. Aptos Token Price Prediction – Retail Dumped On By Crypto VCs? – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/aptos-token-price-prediction-retail-dumped-on-by-crypto-vcs-cryptonews/ The Aptos (APT) price crashed on its listing day, as predicted by many of the best crypto traders on Twitter. Aptos token, dubbed a ‘Solana killer’ capable of a higher tps, is one of the most trending cryptocurrency assets and airdrops this week, on 15,170 watchlists on CoinMarketCap already having just been added today. Aptos Price Prediction Aptos token’s fully diluted market cap is $7 billion at a $7 token price, based on its 1 billion total supply. Some top crypto Twitter accounts consider that overvalued, including @kobratrading who has 20,000 followers and has called APT token a ‘ponzi’. Yesterday one of the most popular crypto influencers and UpOnly podcast host @cobie – who has 743,000 followers – criticized major cryptocurrency exchanges including FTX and Binance for listing Aptos ‘without any tokenomics transparency at all‘. Gainzy (@gainzy) tweeted to his 160,000 followers today: ‘Disastrous aptos launch. I weep for inexperienced discretionary traders. You’re the yield. We all know how this aptos launch ends. Retail gets rinsed, big firms hedge exposure, GCR shows a top short with 6M+ PnL. Just a matter of time. PoS Layer 1 blockchain Aptos attracted crypto venture capital investors including a16z and Jump Capital, with a $150 million series A round.  However ‘VC coins’ have come under increasing criticism this year for deep corrections once tradeable exchanges after reaching an over inflated FDV. Hsaka (@Hsakatrades) yesterday tweeted to his 381,000 followers that the Aptos project was a cash grab. Aptos token was listed at 01:00 UTC on Binance, Coinbase, Huobi, FTX, MEXC, OKX and other crypto exchanges. After its initial listing pump – wicking as high as $100 on Binance and around $17 on most other platforms – the APT price quickly retraced to the $6 – $7 range. Space Tech Startups Fall Out Of VC Orbit – Dunya News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/space-tech-startups-fall-out-of-vc-orbit-dunya-news/ Technology Space tech startups fall out of VC orbit Venture Capitalists are refocusing on enterprise software-as-a-service companies. (Reuters) – Space technology startups are being forced to limit their sky-high ambitions, as their venture-capital backers turn to safer bets due to the current economic turmoil, VC firm Space Capital said. Decades-high inflation, rapidly rising interest rates and the Ukraine war have roiled global financial markets, forcing investors to evaluate their investment strategies and focus on companies with viable products in the market. Investments in space technology companies, which collect, process and analyze space-related data, have fallen 80% in the third quarter to about $1 billion from nearly $5 billion in the year-earlier period, Space Capital said in a report. “Venture Capitalists are refocusing on enterprise software-as-a-service companies and away from deep tech companies that provide solutions based on engineering innovation,” New York-based Space Capital said. VC investment volume in space companies fell 44%, compared with a broader market decline of 31%, it added. VC firms “are looking to reduce their exposure to capital intensive companies with low or long-term profitability models,” Space Capital s managing partner, Chad Anderson, told Reuters. “This is why space s infrastructure layer will be the hardest hit during the economic downturn.” The downbeat sentiment has also hit publicly traded “new space” companies such as Rocket Lab USA (RKLB.O), Astra Space (ASTR.O), Spire Global (SPIR.N) and Satellogic Inc (SATL.O), whose shares have fallen between 49% and 92%. Many investors who explored aerospace last year have backed away, said William Kowalski, co-founder of Atomos Space, which makes spacecraft that help satellites maneuver in space. “Fundraising has been challenging, but it has allowed more capital efficient companies to stand out,” he said. ‘ ; var i = Math.floor(r_text.length * Math.random()); document.write(r_text[i]);

Crete Travel Guide: What To Do Where To Stay Mens Journal
Crete Travel Guide: What To Do Where To Stay Mens Journal
Crete Travel Guide: What To Do, Where To Stay – Men’s Journal https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/crete-travel-guide-what-to-do-where-to-stay-mens-journal/ DaLiu / Shutterstock Travel You know all of those sun-soaked, sprawling-sea images you see of Greece on social media? A lot of them are peak “Instagram vs. Reality.” That’s where your pal visiting Santorini has artfully cropped out the 300 other people fighting to take the same photo. That’s not all of Greece, of course (and thank goodness, because how could the locals stand it?), but it is the unfortunate reality for majority of the country’s tourism hot spots. Even Athens can be traffic logged, as wonderful and essential as a trip there may be. Crete is the less crowded exception, and an expansive one at that. Here, you’ll enjoy some of the best recreation, food, hospitality, and history lessons the world has to offer. In this way, Crete is to Greece as La Paz or Mérida is to Mexico. While everyone else is flocking to Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, and Mexico City, there are equally brilliant, flavorful, hospitable, and culturally rich destinations to be found elsewhere. Crete is still a popular destination And while a visit to Crete is already going to be far less crowded than most other Greek islands, that’s not suggesting it’s without some bottle-necking. Everyone passing through Heraklion wants to see the Palace of Knossos and the capital’s archaeological museum. After all, this is Europe’s oldest established city, some 9,000 years old (with its oldest palaces nearly 4,000 years young). These historic stops are no secret to most travelers with Google, along with popular beaches like the pink-sand Elafonissi and picturesque Balos Lagoon, as well as the storied hike through the Samaria Gorge. We’re not suggesting you miss those stops. But we are suggesting you plan a trip to the island that doesn’t fully follow the script. tuulijumala After all, one of the joys of Crete is indulging in Cretan culture. This is a land of storytellers, from the Minotaur to the supposed birth of Zeus in a Cretan cave. So, here’s how to structure your own storied visit to historic Crete—one as zen and delicious as Cretan life itself. How to get to Crete—and get around It Crete is easily accessible by plane. Either take a flight into its capital Heraklion (center north on the island) or cultural hub Chania (northwest) from most major EU destinations, or you can add it on to your Athens visit, with low-cost fares into most of Crete’s five or six primary cities. And yes, the island has that many “primary” cities, across its four regions and 3,200 sq. miles. It’s Greece’s largest island and the Mediterranean’s fifth largest, after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus, and Corsica. While it’s easy enough to rent a car in Crete, consider how far you need to go on each leg. (Is it worth paying for a car for a whole week if you’re only driving long distances once or twice?) Most of Crete can be broken into manageable smaller bites, since capital Heraklion is only one to two hours from most destinations on the island. Even if you adhere to our advice and stay outside the bigger cities, just craft an itinerary that follows a linear path, and you won’t likely need a rental car, freeing yourself from that burden. We find it’s just as easy (and most cost effective) to hire a taxi driver between cities, even if it’s an hour or two drive. They’re all accustomed to these long trips, but be sure to book them ahead of time through sites like Heraklion Cab or Chania Taxi if it’s that far. The English-speaking ones will chat your ear off and provide terrific local context, too. Many have a business card and will allow you to book them out privately. Where to stay in Crete Remember, unless you stay for two weeks or more, you probably will feel like you barely scratched Crete’s surface. Here are a few places to stay that can either maximize what you see, showcase someplace off the beaten path, or help you wind down at any point of the trip. What they have in common is that they’re outside the core cities. But they’re still easy to reach or to use as an anchor around the island. We’d even suggest staying between two or more of them, depending on the length of your visit to Crete; that way, you don’t have to double-back every day if you explore some new corner. (Oh, and they’ve all got private beachfront access, too, in case you don’t want to move a muscle.) Courtesy image For a high-end anchoring: Blue Palace in Elounda Blue Palace reigns supreme as Elounda’s best luxury resort. And that’s saying something, since Elounda itself reigns supreme as Crete’s most luxurious destination. What surprised us most about our stay here is how accessible it feels for mid-budget travelers despite clearly being the top of its game. This is where we tell friends to take their honeymoon, babymoon, and most rejuvenating getaways—and not just for the property’s infinity pools or private junior villas overlooking the Elounda Bay and storied Spinalonga Island. Blue Palace’s onsite restaurants are themselves among Crete’s best, from homespun Anthós, to taverna-style Blue Door, and if you tire of feta fare, try fresh and fusioned Asia Deep Blue. We booked an afternoon wine tasting on the hotel’s caique boat, one of many romantic couples activities on offer. But it’s the secluded, cove-like panorama that’s forever seared in our brains. Courtesy image For a family-friendly, flavorful respite: Cretan Malia Park in Malia A half-hour drive east from Heraklion, Cretan Malia Park feels like a desert oasis in tiny Malia. The distinguished design hotel might be buzzing with people—many of them on a family vacation, thanks to large pools, exquisite abodes, and a vast selection of eateries—yet it still feels remote and as liberating as the sea breeze. We had two of our best Cretan meals at the Mouries, and even got to hand-pick some of the vegetables in CMP’s onsite garden, press the kalitsounia cakes, and bake the bread. (This Cretan Soul lunch was one of many experiences you can try.) We made time for chess and traditional Greek coffee among the hotel’s feline residents in their pebbled cafe garden and spent hours sunning by the sea. We also savored the live music from local talents over dinner each evening. Arguably the most striking part about Cretan Malia Park is its dedication to locally grown food and support of local talent, part of its ethos of Mediterranean Responsible Living. You can feel that in the fabric there, through its employees, its food, its facilities. A lot of care goes into this one, and you feel cared for, too. Courtesy image For a top-tier south-shore stay: NUMO in Ierapetra I hope you’ll get to the southern part of the island on your visit (since the north houses most of its key cities). Just 90 minutes southeast of Heraklion is NUMO, in the greenhouse-dotted Ierapetra. This part of Crete feeds much of Europe with its cucumbers, potatoes, olives, tomatoes, and the likes. That gives you a taste for the fresh fare found at NUMO (between Menoa and Tamarisk), along with fresh seafood caught on the daily. The hotel is backdropped by mountains, which reflect off the centerpiece pool. (Just beyond that is the ocean, with extremely swimmable, refreshing water.) I would compare NUMO’s vibe to Ace Hotel Palm Springs, for those familiar. There’s a hip crowd here, one that matches the hotel but still begs the question: “How did everyone get here, so far off the beaten path?” Some are getting certified in scuba diving (and you can, too!), others are lounging by the “quiet” pool in peace, and every guest gets a complimentary 15-minute massage in the onsite Etherea Spa (though of course you can book longer if you like). We love NUMO and Ierapetra’s proximity to the eastern shores of Crete, too, since they’re the most ignored due to being “too far out of the way.” But seeing as 90 minutes is how long it usually takes to get off the plane, inch through customs, and search for your luggage, well…here’s a layup of an easy decision. Courtesy image For a regal middle-ground between two capitals: The Royal Senses in Geropotamos A lot of your touristing will be between Heraklion (the capital of the island, and of its own eponymous region), as well as Chania (the capital of its own eponymous region and the best access to beaches—as well as the locals’ unofficially ordained “most dynamic city”). So, why not park yourself midway between them? That’s exactly where you’ll find The Royal Senses in the region of Rethymno. It’s a restful, regal reprieve from days spent exploring the origins of humanity and divine beings—particularly at the lamb-centered resto Mitato. Come for the sea-view suites and private-pool villas, stay for the isolated spot along the water, and revel in the fact that you’re an hour from Crete’s two biggest hubs in either direction. 10 things to do in Crete away from the crowds Again, we know you’re planning to visit Knossos Palace and hike the Samaria Gorge. And you shouldn’t miss those—but prepare for throngs of tourists. Here are some of the best places to point yourself for less-crowded recreation. 1. Take a sunset cruise to Dia Island Funny that in this first suggestion, we’re advising you to actually leave Crete. It’s only for an evening, though. Since Crete itself is so big, you may start to feel like you’re on a mainland, whereas most Greek vacations suggest island hopping and eating cheese at sea. So, here’s your chance: Voyage on a yacht to nearby Dia Island from Heraklion. There are chances to swim and snorkel as the skies turn pink and life stands still. Take a picture in your mind and with your camera. Toast to your god with the local “ya mas!” cheers. This memory will last forever. (If your schedule is taut, you can do the same thing in the morning or midday, too.) 2. Try the Southern Shore beaches OK, your Googling will tell you to visit Elafonissi, Balos, and Tsoutsouras. They’re gr...

Family: Saudis Sentence US Citizen To 16 Years Over Tweets – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/family-saudis-sentence-us-citizen-to-16-years-over-tweets-69news-wfmz-tv/ DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — An American citizen has been arrested in Saudi Arabia, tortured and sentenced to 16 years in prison over tweets he sent while in the United States, his son said Tuesday. Saad Ibrahim Almadi, a 72-year-old retired project manager living in Florida, was arrested last November while visiting family in the kingdom and was sentenced earlier this month, his son Ibrahim told The Associated Press, confirming details that were first reported by the Washington Post. Almadi is a citizen of both Saudi Arabia and the U.S. There was no immediate comment from Saudi officials. State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel, speaking to reporters in Washington, confirmed Almadi’s detention Tuesday. “We have consistently and intensively raised our concerns regarding the case at senior levels of the Saudi government, both through channels in Riyadh and Washington DC as well and we will continue to do so,” he said. “We have raised this with members of the Saudi government as recently as yesterday.” It appeared to be the latest in a series of recent cases in which Saudis received long jail sentences for social media posts critical of the government. Saudi authorities have tightened their crackdown on dissent following the rise of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is seeking to open up and transform the ultraconservative kingdom but has adopted a hard line toward any criticism. A Saudi court recently sentenced a woman to 45 years in prison for allegedly damaging the country through her social media activity. A Saudi doctoral student at Leeds University in England was sentenced to 34 years for spreading “rumors” and retweeting dissidents, a case that drew international outrage. Ibrahim says his father was detained over 14 “mild tweets” posted on Twitter over the past seven years, mostly criticizing government policies and alleged corruption. He says his father was not an activist but a private citizen expressing his opinion while in the U.S., where freedom of speech is a constitutional right. President Joe Biden traveled to the oil-rich kingdom in July for a meeting with Prince Mohammed, in which he said he confronted him about human rights. Their meeting — and a widely criticized fist-bump — marked a sharp turnaround from Biden’s earlier vow to make the kingdom a “pariah” over the 2018 killing of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Ibrahim said his father was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Oct. 3 on charges of supporting terrorism. The father was also charged with failing to report terrorism, over tweets that Ibrahim had posted. His father was also slapped with a 16-year travel ban. If the sentence is carried out, the 72-year-old would be 87 upon his release and barred from returning home to the U.S. unless he reaches the age of 104. Ibrahim said Saudi authorities warned his family to stay quiet about the case and to not involve the U.S. government. He said his father was tortured after the family contacted the State Department in March. Ibrahim also accused the State Department of neglecting his father’s case by not declaring him a “wrongfully detained” American, which would elevate his file. “They manipulated me. They told me to stay quiet so they can get him out,” Ibrahim said, explaining his decision to go public this week. “I am not willing to take a gamble on the Department of State anymore.” Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. Freddie Mercury’s Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Is Heading To Auction For A Good Cause – Yahoo Life https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/freddie-mercurys-rolls-royce-silver-shadow-is-heading-to-auction-for-a-good-cause-yahoo-life/ In addition to his singular musical legacy, Freddie Mercury left behind a slew of prized cars. Now the first Rolls-Royce he ever owned is hitting the auction block, and all the proceeds are going toward a good cause.   RM Sotheby’s is offering up the singer’s 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow during a sale on November 5. The former Queen frontman was said to have owned the car from 1979 until his death in 1991 at age 45. After his passing, the Rolls-Royce was scooped up by his sister, Kashmira Cooke, and remained in her possession until 2013 when it was bought at auction. Next month, the ‘74 Shadow will cross the block again, but this time the money from the sale will benefit Superhumans Center, a charity that’s providing aid for Ukrainian war victims. The 1974 Silver Shadow was the first Rolls-Royce that Freddie Mercury ever owned “This car represents a serious piece of history and the fact that the proceeds of the sale will benefit the amazing Superhumans of Ukraine charity is wonderful,” says Nick Wiles, a car specialist at RM Sotheby’s. Despite never having a license, that didn’t stop Mercury from amassing quite the class car collection. In fact, the Silver Shadow is reportedly what he was often chauffeured in throughout his career and even where the band’s record label signing took place. Bank Of America Survey: Young People 7.5x More Likely To Hold Crypto – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/bank-of-america-survey-young-people-7-5x-more-likely-to-hold-crypto-cryptonews/ Source: Unsplash Young Americans aged between 21 and 42 are 7.5 times more likely to hold crypto in their portfolios than investors over 43, a new survey from Bank of America shows. According to the survey, younger Americans with money to invest are also less interested in stocks than older investors, with the younger cohort instead viewing crypto and other so-called alternative investments as their “No. 1 choice.” An alternative investment normally refers to investments in any other asset than stocks, bonds and cash. This investment category has become increasingly popular in recent years, as many investors have seen the stock market as overvalued and risky, while bank savings have paid out interest rates far below the rate of inflation in most Western countries. Source: Bank of America “While overall [crypto] usage is low, younger people are 7.5 times more likely to hold crypto in their portfolios and five times more likely to say they understand it quite well,” the bank commented, stressing the importance of age when it comes to interest in crypto investing. In terms of where young investors go to find information about crypto investment opportunities, the bank said social media is the most popular. “Half of the younger group said they turn to social media for guidance on crypto, compared with 30% of the older group,” the BofA survey said. Meanwhile, the survey also found that a whopping 75% of investors between the ages of 21 and 42 do not believe it is possible to achieve “above-average returns” with a traditional portfolio consisting solely of stocks and bonds. Instead, the youngest group of investors are seeking to improve their returns with alternatives, including private equity, commodities, real estate, and – as already mentioned – crypto. The findings were published in Bank of America’s 2022 Private Bank Study of Wealthy Americans that was released this week. The survey was based on answers from 1,052 high-net-worth individuals in the US. In the past, Bank of America has shown some interest in crypto at the corporate level, having participated as a strategic investor in blockchain infrastructure platform Paxos‘ Series D round of funding. Last year, the major bank also made some headlines when it published its first official piece of investment research on the crypto market titled “Digital Assets Primer: Only the first inning.”

Son Of US Citizen Detained In Saudi Arabia Says His Father Is ‘nowhere Near Being Dissident’ – CNN https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/son-of-us-citizen-detained-in-saudi-arabia-says-his-father-is-nowhere-near-being-dissident-cnn/ CNN  —  The son of an American citizen imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for criticizing the Saudi government said Tuesday evening that his father is “nowhere near being a dissident.” “My father is a senior American citizen who just wants to live freely and happy in the United States where he got his education,” Saad Ibrahim Almadi’s son, Ibrahim Almadi, told CNN’s Erin Burnett on “OutFront.” The US State Department confirmed earlier Tuesday that 72-year-old Saad Ibrahim Almadi has been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia after being given a 16-year sentence for tweets critical of the Saudi government. Almadi’s imprisonment was first reported by The Washington Post. Ibrahim Almadi told CNN on Tuesday that if his father had been held in Russia or Iran, “we’d see his name in the headlines every morning.” State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said at a news briefing that officials have “consistently and intensively raised our concerns regarding the case at senior levels of the Saudi government, both through channels in Riyadh and Washington, DC, as well … as recently as yesterday.” Patel also confirmed that there was no State Department official at Almadi’s sentencing hearing, which he said was because the Saudi government moved up the hearing date without telling the US embassy and never responded to the embassy’s request to attend the hearing weeks before it was originally scheduled. The last time the US had consular access to Almadi was August 10, according to Patel. The State Department, he said, is still going through the process to determine whether Almadi will be designated as “wrongfully detained.” “Exercising the freedom of expression should never be criminalized,” Patel said. The State Department communicated with the Saudi ambassador in Washington on Monday about Almadi’s case, a US official told CNN. This headline and story have been updated with additional developments Tuesday.

Futures tied to the Nasdaq 100 added 1.2%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 0.4%, and S&P 500 futures rose 0.7%. All three of the major stock averages finished the regular trading day higher, as earnings reports boosted a choppy market. The Dow closed higher by about 337 points, while the S&P 500 gained 1.1% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 0.9%. The extended trading moves came after Netflix reported earnings and revenue that beat estimates as well as strong subscriber growth for the third quarter. Shares surged as much as 14% in extended trading. Some on Wall Street are resetting their earnings projections lower as investors worry about a recession. Gene Goldman, chief investment officer at Cetera Investment Management, said that while an economic recession could be mild, the market could struggle with those downward revisions. “Earnings estimates are a bit too high for the S&P 500 at 7% to 9% per year going forward,” he said. “Slowing economic growth and Fed rate hikes will likely put downward pressure on earnings. Because earnings drive stock prices, they could pressure markets for some time.” Tech earnings will be in full swing next week, but IBM and Tesla are on deck to report Wednesday. Social media firm Snap will report later in the week. In economic data, investors are looking forward to housing starts on Wednesday. Netflix Exploring Cloud Gaming To Bring Titles To TVs And PCs, Will Establish In-House Games Studio In Southern California – Variety https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/netflix-exploring-cloud-gaming-to-bring-titles-to-tvs-and-pcs-will-establish-in-house-games-studio-in-southern-california-variety/ Netflix is just over a year into its active push into games — and it’s doubling down on the strategy. Netflix’s VP of games Mike Verdu, speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2022 conference Tuesday, announced that the streamer was “seriously exploring” introducing a cloud gaming offering to be able to extend its catalog of games to customers on TVs and PCs. “We’re going to approach this the same way we did with mobile, which is start small, be humble, be thoughtful, and then build out,” he said at the event. “But it is a step we think we should take to meet members where they are on the devices where they consume Netflix.” Verdu, a former exec at EA and Zynga who joined Netflix last summer, also revealed that the company plans to build a new studio in Southern California. He said Chacko Sonny, the former Activision Blizzard executive producer behind “Overwatch” who previously oversaw development of “God of War” at Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Santa Monica Studio, will bring his next game project to Netflix. “We are building a team around him and looking to him to reinvent what games can be” on Netflix, said Verdu. A Netflix rep confirmed the plans but had no further additional info. In announcing Q3 earnings Tuesday, Netflix said it now offers 35 mobile games — and that it has 55 more in development, including those based on Netflix franchises. All the games are included with every Netflix subscription without in-game ads or in-app purchases. The idea is that the games provide additional value to the core Netflix streaming-video subscription. “[W]e’re seeing some encouraging signs of gameplay leading to higher retention,” the company said in the shareholder letter. According to Netflix, after the launch of the anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” (49 million hours viewed) in Q3, gameplay of CD Projekt’s “Cyberpunk 2077” game surged on PCs. Last month, Netflix announced that it was opening its first internal games studio in Helsinki, Finland, led by former Zynga and Electronic Arts exec Marko Lastikka as studio director. exploring cloud gaming, and 2) building an internal games studio in Southern California.

SAN ANTONIO — For the first time since early June, San Antonio-area coronavirus hospitalizations have dipped into the double-digits as Texas continues its slow emergence from the pandemic.  There were 94 patients receiving treatment for their symptoms Tuesday, which is down 28% over the last week and down 55% since Sept. 1. Of those 94 patients, 13 were in intensive care and two were using ventilators to help them breathe.  Case counts continue to shrink as well; Tuesday’s 152 new infections were the most since last week, but October thus far has averaged just 134 new cases a day to 414 in September and 735 in August. More than 646,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in Bexar County since the pandemic began, though there are likely at least thousands more positive at-home diagnoses that weren’t reported.  Metro Health continues to organize pop-up clinics for no-cost COVID-19 vaccines; the next one is set for Wednesday at a west-side community center.  No Appointment Needed! A full breakdown can be found here. 1,481,332 eligible Bexar County residents are fully vaccinated as of Oct. 10, which is about 73.9% of the total population over 6 months old.  591,339 eligible Bexar County residents have received a COVID-19 booster shot as of Oct. 10, which is 39.7% percent of the population over 4 years old.  The CDC states that “when a high percentage of the community is immune to a disease (through vaccination and/or prior illness),” that community will have reached herd immunity, “making the spread of this disease from person to person unlikely.” The City of San Antonio breaks down the vaccination rates by zip code on Metro Health’s Vaccination Statistics page. Coronavirus in Texas The total number of coronavirus cases in the state grew by 637 on Monday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. That total includes 473 new confirmed cases and 164 new probable cases. More details can be found on this page. Monday’s figures bring the total number of Texans diagnosed with COVID-19 to more than 7.9 million.  Meanwhile, two more Texans have died from virus complications, the state reported Monday, raising the statewide death toll to 89,429. The latest daily figures, for Tuesday, weren’t yet released by state officials.  Coronavirus symptoms The symptoms of coronavirus can be similar to the flu or a bad cold. Symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Most healthy people will have mild symptoms. A study of more than 72,000 patients by the Centers for Disease Control in China showed 80 percent of the cases there were mild. But infections can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death, according to the World Health Organization. Older people with underlying health conditions are most at risk. Experts determined there was consistent evidence these conditions increase a person’s risk, regardless of age: Chronic kidney disease COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Obesity (BMI of 30 or higher) Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant Serious heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies Sickle cell disease Type 2 diabetes The CDC believes symptoms may appear anywhere from two to 14 days after being exposed. Human coronaviruses are usually spread…  Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Some recent studies have suggested that COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms. Help stop the spread of coronavirus Stay home when you are sick. Eat and sleep separately from your family members Use different utensils and dishes Cover your cough or sneeze with your arm, not your hand. If you use a tissue, throw it in the trash. MacAdam: Marathon Debut Will Be No Sight-Seeing Tour For Udvadia – The Daily Gazette https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/macadam-marathon-debut-will-be-no-sight-seeing-tour-for-udvadia-the-daily-gazette/ “OK, let’s go, c’mon!” “Don’t you wanna look at the Grand Canyon?” Clark Griswold puts his arm around his wife Ellen, looks at the Grand Canyon for a moment, then hustles his family out of there in a classic quick scene from “Vacation.” Cara Udvadia will have a similar frame of mind on Oct. 30, and the venue will be the vast panoply of monuments and landmarks around Washington, D.C. Presumably, she won’t be on the run from the law like Clark Griswold was. But she won’t be dawdling to soak in the gravitas of Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol, either. The 25-year-old former star distance runner at Mohonasen High School and UAlbany is making the big jump to the marathon distance for the first time, and has given herself an ambitious but attainable finish goal of 2:50 at the 47th Marine Corps Marathon. The UAlbany record holder in the 10,000 meters who won the MVP Health Care Stockade-athon 15k last year and in 2019 has visited D.C. just once, on a family vacation when she was in middle school. She’s looking forward to a marathon debut in which her wristwatch won’t be the only source of engagement. “It’s a pretty cool spot. I think it’ll hopefully help take my mind off the pain at some point,” she said with a laugh during a phone interview last Thursday. Udvadia, who married former UAlbany teammate Ryan Udvadia this year and works as a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, has been training for the Marine Corps Marathon for four months while coached by her father, Mohonasen cross country coach Bill Sherman. Cara believes she’s well-equipped for Oct. 30 based on how her overall training has progressed, which has included a long run of 22 miles five weeks ago and another 22-miler the second week of October. The first one was a valuable revelation; the recent one went much better. “That’s probably the first time throughout this training block that really opened my eyes to how challenging the marathon can be,” she said. “And I wasn’t having a great day. I knew from the start of that run, I don’t know what it was, but I was feeling a little bit tired. “It was a huge mental challenge from about 15 miles on. I was really struggling. I had Ryan on the bike with me. He was super-supportive, and that helped, for sure. I don’t know if I could’ve made it through without him.” “I told her, I remember when I was preparing for my first marathon, they always say the halfway point of that 26-mile race is the 20-mile mark,” said Bill Sherman, who has run nine marathons. “And it’s true. I was like, that’s a bunch of baloney, and I ran it and was like, ‘Oh, my goodness.’ “She had a 20-miler a few weeks before and she said Dad I felt great, I’m ready, I think I could’ve done 26.’ She went to 22 and was like, ‘I think I understand what you were talking about at the halfway point.’” To hit her target time, Udvadia will have to maintain a 6:29 mile pace. She posted the same time, 54:24, in her two Stockade-athon victories, which is a 5:51 pace for 9.3 miles, and in some shorter races this year, she has run sub-6:00 pace in the Firecracker 4 (23:33 for four miles) and Malta 10k (36:28) on Sept. 10. To get a taste of a race longer than the Stockade-athon, Udvadia ran the Helderberg-to-Hudson Half Marathon in April, and won it in 1:17:01, a 5:53 pace, before she had begun her serious training block for the Marine Corps. “I always knew that I would eventually move up [in distance],” she said. “After I finished running competitively in college last year, I felt like I needed some time to catch my breath and took a little down time and then spent some time road racing. This year, I felt like I was ready to make the jump. “I decided to take it kind of slow and started with a half marathon with the mindset that that would be setting me up for a fall marathon. It was a good experience. It was tough, jumping up in distance.” The popular Capital Region 26.2-miler, the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon on Oct. 9, was a logical spot for her debut, but Udvadia chose to get out of town, and there is some family history at the D.C. race, too. Ryan, who is also in good shape and will race Marine Corps, had run it with his grandfather. “I really wanted to do one that was not in the area for my first one,” Cara said. “A marathon’s a long distance, and doing it in a familiar area, I didn’t want to get bored, if that makes sense. “I wanted to also race some new people and challenge myself with that. Ryan told me good things about it. I wanted to look for something that would definitely push me, and other women to run with was really important to me. Looking at the past results, it definitely fit the bill. It looked like I would be in the mix, but definitely by no means the fastest. I felt like that would be a good way to push myself.” The women’s winner at Marine Corps typically runs in the 2:40s, and former Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake star Sam Roecker won the MHR Marathon in 2:52:17. The Marine Corps Marathon starts and finishes in Arlington, Virginia, crosses two bridges over the Potomac River and passes many of the iconic tourist sights in Washington. The course is mostly flat, but has some uphill in the early miles and another hill that begins a gentle ascent at the Mile 21 mark and gets steeper in Mile 23. The learning process is two-fold for Udvadia this year, how to train for a marathon, and how to race one. “That’s funny,” she said, when told that her father described her target time as “aggressive.” “It’s hard for me to say. Obviously, I never ran a marathon before, and I don’t want to underestimate it, because I know it’s going to be extremely challenging. “But I think it’s very do-able if I run smart in the beginning and don’t go out too fast. I know he thinks it’s more aggressive than I probably do, but he’s also more experienced with marathoning than I am, so I definitely learned some lessons during training, doing long runs past where I’ve gone before. It made me realize that it’ll be harder than I expect, probably, so it’s good to go in prepared for that.” “Her training has been going really well, and she seems really strong,” Bill Sherman said. “I think it’s a lot to manage when you’re all of a sudden working full-time.  “She’s got a pretty aggressive goal for this first one. I think it’s aggressive, and if she can do it, it’s going to be amazing. I have her at certain pacing for her tempo runs, and she says, ‘Dad, it feels so slow,’ but you’re doing 12 miles of tempo. All the pacing is based on her goal time. And it’s going well, but you don’t know until you step on the line and cross the finish line.” Balancing time-consuming marathon training with a full-time job is also part of the challenge for Udvadia. She and Ryan live in Clifton Park, and her work with the USGS occasionally requires travel to all corners of the state to collect water samples for lab analysis. “It’s also held me accountable to take a day off every week, which I usually follow that type of plan,” Cara said. “This has forced me to do that. When you work a 12-plus-hour day, it’s hard to find time to run, so if that happens once a week, it’s not a bad thing for my training, to be honest.” Udvadia said she’ll run the Stockade-athon again on Nov. 13 as long as it doesn’t present a risk of injury while she recovers from Marine Corps. She’s committed to her new distance, though, and, based on her training and affinity for longer distances, the Oct. 30 race will be anything but a sight-seeing opportunity. “I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve been able to hit the pace, no problem, in training, so I think when race day comes around, I’ll have been resting up a little bit the week before and my legs will probably feel better than they do on an average day, with the race atmosphere,” she said.. “I find that the first time I do a new workout or distance or a new race, it’s a lot more challenging the first time. I’m trying to keep that in mind for the first time I race the marathon, knowing it’s probably not going to go smoothly. “But I’ll have plenty more tries after this.” CATCHING UP WITH … … The Evans family. Shaun, Nichole, Shamus and Simon Evans had a book signing at The Open Door in Schenectady on Sept. 25, so I swung down there to pick up a copy of Shaun’s account of their cross-country adventure in 2015 in which he pushed Shamus in his jogging stroller 3,205 miles from Seattle to Pelham Bay in the Bronx. “Better Together” was a fun, inspiring read, not just for the remarkable feat by Shaun and Shamus, but the logistical challenges the entire family faced to not only make it happen, but to make it an impactful exercise in charity, awareness and inclusion. Along the way, they donated wheelchairs to disabled kids in 15 states as representatives of Ainsley’s Angels. Microsoft Lays Off Nearly 1,000 Employees – 1330 WFIN https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/microsoft-lays-off-nearly-1000-employees-1330-wfin/ SOPA Images/Getty Images (NEW YORK) — Microsoft announced layoffs on Monday for nearly 1,000 employees worldwide, the company confirmed to ABC News. The move marks the latest sign of weakness among some of the largest U.S. tech companies amid persistent inflation, recession fears and stock market woes. This year, shares of Microsoft have fallen nearly 30%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index, meanwhile, has fallen more than 31%. The job cuts announced by Microsoft on Monday came across different positions, levels and geographic regions, Microsoft confirmed. “Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly,” the company told ABC News in a statement. “We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead.” Axios first reported the layoffs. While significant, the job losses announced on Monday affected less than one half of one percent of the company’s 221,000 employees worldwide. The cuts followed a round of layoffs in July that impacted less than 1% of the company’s workforce. The most recent quarterly earnings released by Microsoft, in July, fell short of investor expectations, recording $51.9 billion in revenue compared with an expected $52.4 billion, according to Bloomberg. Prior to this year, Microsoft saw blockbuster growth during the pandemic, as consumers and businesses turned to its products amid a spike in time spent at home. Between March 2020 and December 2021, Microsoft’s stock price rose about 107%. This year, however, an economic slowdown and a continued shift back to some pre-pandemic consumer habits has hurt many tech companies. Shares of cloud-computing competitor Amazon have fallen about 30% this year, while shares of Facebook-parent Meta have dropped 61%. How Avaya Is Bringing Contact-Center Functionality To The Metaverse ZDNet
How Avaya Is Bringing Contact-Center Functionality To The Metaverse ZDNet
How Avaya Is Bringing Contact-Center Functionality To The Metaverse – ZDNet https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/how-avaya-is-bringing-contact-center-functionality-to-the-metaverse-zdnet/ Image: XH4D/Getty Images At the GITEX Global conference last week in Dubai, communications hardware and software provider Avaya showcased how its technology can be integrated into a metaverse experience. GITEX has become a premier technology conference across the globe and rivals CES for attendance.  Avaya has been a mainstay at the event for years and historically has been effective in highlighting its technology and innovation through customer use cases.  We are still in the early stages of the metaverse, so there aren’t many real-life examples. In fact, most IT leaders I talk to are interested in futuristic technology but are not sure of how to use it or what some practical business use cases are.  Here, the Avaya Dubai team collaborated with its partner, Avanza Solutions, and showcased the result at the Avaya stand at GITEX. Avanza is one of the premier digital transformation solution providers in the Gulf region. Avaya, Avanza partner to bring metaverse to life  The joint solution supports Dubai’s vision of being one of the top metaverse cities and is set to create tens of thousands of metaverse-related jobs in the next decade as the city looks to draw on the virtual environment to add to the already strong economy of the UAE.  Also: Here’s how the metaverse could transform your future job Currently, if a company wants to come and do business in Dubai, there are several tasks that need to be completed, including getting permits and applying for work visas. Instead of having to complete these tasks by driving to the government agencies and office buildings, which could take hours based on the traffic I experienced in Dubai, all the tasks can be completed in the metaverse. Some services can be done via the web, but even this can be challenging because each agency has its own website.  The interface even allows the selection of real estate, where users can go into virtual versions of buildings, design an office, and experience the many views Dubai offers.  The Dubai metaverse brings together everything required to start a business in one place: physical and virtual.  Avaya brings contact center to the metaverse  If a customer runs into problems, the user can connect with a contact center agent via the metaverse interface in conjunction with Avaya OneCloud CCaaS (contact center as a service). Customers can interact with virtual agents within the metaverse, speak to a live agent via phone call, or even use social media apps, such as Meta’s WhatsApp.  For Avaya, bringing the metaverse into its contact center wasn’t a complicated process. At GITEX, I talked to Avaya International President Nidal Abou-Ltaif about this, and he told me, “We just look at it as another channel. Avaya OneCloud CCaaS is fully cloud-native and designed to be open, so adding another channel for customer interactions can be done quickly and without any disruption.”  While Avaya’s mission during the past few years has been to create “Experiences That Matter,” the theme of its GITEX booth was “Innovation Without Disruption.” The way Avaya integrated metaverse into OneCloud CCaaS underscores that. Avaya customers can experiment with the metaverse and add contact center capabilities without having to bring in a new platform or go through a major upgrade.  Also: The metaverse is coming, and the security threats have already arrived If there is one key takeaway for business leaders from the pandemic it’s that no one knows what the future holds, which underscores the importance of business agility. An open platform like OneCloud CCaaS enables businesses to quickly adapt their customer service strategy to meet current demands without having to go through a massive upgrade.  Dubai metaverse creates a digital twin of business processes  The Dubai metaverse can be thought of as a digital twin of all government processes required to establish a business in the city.  In theory, once this is up and running, organizations could use the metaverse version of the government services to augment or even replace the physical ones.  Ideally, citizens and businesses would have access to all services in a hybrid mode where the web, metaverse, or physical services would all give an identical experience.  One of the unique aspects of the Gulf region is that the public sector drives innovation and sets the standard for private companies. In the US or western Europe, we often see government agencies lag in technology, sometimes by as much as a decade. I have been to Dubai several times and have been impressed with the level of technology adoption across the city. Drones, robots, video cameras, and IoT are commonly used to improve people’s lives, and now the metaverse is coming.  It’s interesting to think about where else Avaya could take this technology. At last year’s GITEX, Avaya demonstrated a real estate application built with Dubai-based real estate company EMAAR Properties, which had built an application prospective buyers could use to tour buildings and talk to agents virtually. This was designed for the pandemic, but like everything else in the world, once a process goes digital, it’s hard to go back. It would make sense to bring something like the EMAAR-based application together with the metaverse and allow buyers to talk to agents, bankers, property managers, or other people in the metaverse.  This example of a digital twin is also used to deliver city services that could be replicated in other industries, such as retail, higher education, real estate, and gaming.  The metaverse is coming, and it was good to see a practical example at the Avaya stand at GITEX. The “innovation without disruption” theme Avaya used at the show is important because new technology often has lengthy adoption cycles; any kind of disruption to the business has customer service, revenue, or other implications.

Read This Before Baking With Duff’s CakeMix – Mashed https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/read-this-before-baking-with-duffs-cakemix-mashed/ Paul Archuleta/Getty Images Celebrity baker Duff Goldman has displayed his cake decorating passions for over a decade, and his Food Network show “Ace of Cakes” launched a new era of grand cake constructions. We’re talking edible basketball sneakers, a Doritos chip bag, and Harry Potter novel cakes. Though they are all culinary masterpieces, the R2-D2 cake is one of Goldman’s personal favorites. As he shared with the Daily Beast, the edible sculpture means so much not only because it looked and tasted awesome, but because it was for George Lucas.  Whether he’s serving five different wedding cakes at his own nuptials or hosting cake-centered programming on Food Network, Goldman eats and breathes cake excellence. The TV star is very familiar with pushing cake boundaries, so when he opened Duff’s CakeMix — a do-it-yourself cake studio — his vision was met with quick excitement. The DIY cake studio concept was groundbreaking when it opened and continues to draw bakers and non-bakers alike to have a hand at rolling fondant, and piping frosting just like Goldman did on television screens for 10 seasons. Lucky for us, after all is said and done at Duff’s CakeMix, the mess stays behind at the studio, and the cakes come home to be devoured. Duff’s CakeMix draws celebrities Few cake TV show personalities have a higher celebrity status than “Ace of Cakes” lead Duff Goldman. The famous baker has been on our television screens since 2006, and after he opened up his Duff’s CakeMix cake decorating studio in 2012, fans suddenly had a chance to decorate like the television star. And as the Los Angeles Times noted, some of those fans happen to be celebrities. We’re not just talking about fellow famous food TV folk. In 2015, People reported Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Baldwin were spotted preparing for cake decorating fun at one of Goldman’s establishments. A source told the magazine that the three A-list celebrities enjoyed snacking on cupcakes while helping Bieber’s younger sister decorate a cake. Two years later, People reported Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian headed to CakeMix to decorate cupcakes with Mason and Penelope Disick. By the end of the outing, emoji cupcakes and frosting swirls were all over the Kourt’s Snapchat. And in 2017, model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen shared a snap taken at the studio and noted that the team at CakeMix helped her hone her birthday cake decorating skills.  Jimmy Kimmel filmed a competition at Duff’s CakeMix Kathy Hutchins/Shutterstock The interior of Duff’s CakeMix feels like it was made to be on TV. Fun colors, moldable fondant, and eclectic sprinkles beg for cameras, lights, and late-night show hosts, right? In 2014, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and members of his family stopped by Duff Goldman’s cake shop to put their decorating skills to the test. And yes, the cameras were there. Duff’s cake expertise earned him the title of competition judge, while Kimmel and his relatives suited up to decorate some cakes. The family commentary is pure comedy — fondant cutters flying, food color splashing, and insults being thrown in every direction. Ultimately, Kimmel’s cousin Sal Iacono was crowned the winner with his football-themed cake. Now, don’t be intimidated — neither Duff nor his studio cake experts will judge your cake creations if you stop by CakeMix. Evidently, Goldman saves the real criticism for “Worst Bakers in America.”  There’s actually no cake mix or baking involved If you live in Southern California, there’s a chance you’ve not only driven by but have stopped by Duff’s CakeMix. The studio is a perfect destination for birthday parties, rainy days, and company events. And if you have visited any of the Duff’s CakeMix locations, then you know that customers don’t do any of the cake mixing or baking. Rather, it is all about the decorating and tapping into your inner artist while still having fun and never feeling judged. As Duff Goldman explained, “I wanted a place where people could come, be creative, make something cool, realize that they’re actually able to do that. … They come in here and they realize they can do anything they want.” Each DIY decorating session begins with pre-baked cupcakes or cakes paired with a selection of colored frosting, fondant, and sprinkles, per LA Weekly. In addition to the edible embellishments, fondant rolling pins, cookie cutters, candy molds, and edible markers, among many other gadgets, are available for cake customization. Duff’s CakeMix broke the mold You know those DIY pottery painting studios where you could paint a clay unicorn and receive a professionally glazed ceramic piece a few days later? Imagine that, but what if you were able to bring your creation home right away and eat it for dessert the very same night? Thanks to Duff’s CakeMix, that dream is a reality.  As the Duff’s CakeMix website notes, Duff Goldman’s first cake decorating store was the first of its kind in Los Angeles. Goldman’s DIY cake decorating studio chain satisfied a niche demand right away. Baking enthusiasts have every possible decorating tool at their fingertips, and novice cake decorators can reach out to the staff for guidance. As he told the Los Angeles Times, the business model came to Goldman while hosting an event where children got to decorate cakes. When the Food Network saw how thrilled the kids were with the experience, it was a lightbulb moment. “I was like, ‘Man, this would be a really good store,'” he recalled. Clearly, that instinct was right. Katy Perry shot the Birthday lyric video there Katy Perry made a splash when she dropped her frosting-coated song “Birthday,” the fourth single off of “Prism.” Ahead of the official music video’s release, she put out a lyric video for “Birthday” that, as MTV News noted, is sure to make your sweet tooth flare up. Fittingly, the frosting-coated video — which features cakes, cake toppings, cake decorating tools, cupcakes, and lyrics in icing — was shot inside Duff’s CakeMix. And yes, all of those cakes were created by Duff Goldman, and his team was very much involved with the shoot. As the Food Network star told People (via The Baltimore Sun), “The Cakemix staff was working with the producer and director, who would say, ‘We need this lyric written out in frosting,’ or, ‘Can we get this done with food coloring?'” At the end of the visual, Perry is dressed to the nines in a CakeMix chef’s coat, cheeks dusted with powdered sugar, and perched in front of the studio’s inspiration wall. So the next time you visit, be aware that your cookie cutter of choice may have been an extra in Katy Perry’s “Birthday” music video. Duff’s CakeMix has major expansion plans As of this writing, Duff’s CakeMix only has locations in Southern California, but with a new franchisee model in the works, Duff Goldman hopes to spread his cake studio magic. Per the Duff’s CakeMix website, the franchise program allows investors to open a store anywhere in the country. In just eight steps, aspiring franchisees can get the go-ahead to open up shop. The CakeMix franchise model is rather appealing, and not just because delicious cake is involved. As Duff’s CakeMix CEO Pamela Fazio said in QSR Magazine, “The Duff’s CakeMix brand has had an unbelievable response in the franchise space. … The franchise model does not have any direct competitors.” As Fazio told Fransmart, they plan to establish over 300 in North America alone — and that’s only scratching the surface of the frosting jar. Per Bake Magazine, opening 1,000 stores worldwide is the end goal. Sounds like a CakeMix empire is on the horizon.  Duff’s CakeMix is for pros and amateurs alike Duff Goldman may seek perfection on “The Spring Baking Championship,” “Ace of Cakes,” and “Buddy vs. Duff.” But when it comes to the CakeMix studio, it’s all about having fun and getting creative. That means you do not need to be a cake decorating guru or even the artistic type at all. Instead, per the Duff’s CakeMix website, your own artistic abilities and having a blast is all that are required. “The great thing about cake is it doesn’t feel like work,” Duff Goldman told the Los Angeles Times in 2012. “You forget about work.” If cake decorating isn’t your strong suit but you are eager to learn, have no fear. Each CakeMix location is stocked with all the tools you could ever need to express your inner cake artist, as well as step-by-step directions for various designs. What’s more, a team of cake decorating experts is on hand to assist at all times. As Goldman said in a store video, “Don’t worry if you run into trouble because our staff is really well trained and they can help you with any cake decorating emergency you might have.” At the end of the day, the creative process and a delicious take-home dessert are sweet reasons for repeat visits. A Duff Goldman sighting is always possible Chance Yeh/Getty Images If you’re hoping to spot Duff Goldman’s iconic smile and expert baking skills in the studio, all hope is not lost. Per Duff’s CakeMix, Goldman loves to stop by the cake studios when he’s not busy being a Food Network personality. The studio FAQ page also recommends tagging @duffgoldman and @duffsCakeMix when posting cake creations to get a personal special social media mention. The reason Goldman started the do-it-yourself cake studio is the same reason he loves to stop in and participate in the decorating magic. As he told Tasting Table, “I love being in the store and sitting down at tables where there’s four or five kids and decorating cakes with them. … They just want to decorate cakes. I am second fiddle. I love doing it.” He shares in the proud smiles and frosting sugar highs and reflects on his own joy when a baking project is successful. The cake studio has an airbrush booth Perhaps you are a fan of reality TV show...

BitKeep Crypto Wallet Exploited For $1 Million – Here’s What You Need To Know – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/bitkeep-crypto-wallet-exploited-for-1-million-heres-what-you-need-to-know-cryptonews/ Crypto hacks are becoming more common, and the latest victim is BitKeep – crypto wallet that supports more than 30 blockchain networks.  During the early hours of Tuesday morning, BitKeep announced that its Swap product had been hacked of $1 million of BNB Chain and Polygon-based tokens. The company tweeted that its development team had managed to stop the hacker. BitKeep also tweeted that it had suspended the Swap service to prevent any further security breaches. Blockchain security and analytics data company PeckShield stated that the hackers had exploited the swap/router of the multi-chain wallet – integrating several features in one location.  PeckShield informed BitKeep investors that they should use its Revoke.Cash platform to ensure they do their part in preventing hackers from stealing any other funds. The blockchain security company discovered that the hacker had transferred 190 tokens via the Binance Smart Chain network. Fortunately for investors, BitKeep is adamant about keeping investor funds safe. While several hacked crypto companies haven’t compensated investors for losses, BitKeep is taking a different approach. BitKeep Wallet tweeted that users’ assets are secure and those that suffered losses in the Swap security incident will be fully compensated. The wallet provider will launch a compensation portal within 3 working days for victims to apply for a refund. The provider also stated that it will compensate 100% of the stolen assets. Crypto investors have every right to feel jittery about their assets because 2022 has proved to be a doozy. Reports reveal that crypto hackers have looted over $3 billion. If that wasn’t bad enough, October has set the record for the highest total amount hacked in one month. It’s believed that more than $700 million has been stolen from DeFi protocols in October. And the worst part is that we still have almost two weeks until November.

Biden To Lay Out Plan To Complete Emergency Oil Sales, Support U.S. Production – Reuters https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/biden-to-lay-out-plan-to-complete-emergency-oil-sales-support-u-s-production-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden will announce a plan on Wednesday to sell off the last portion of his release from the nation’s emergency oil reserve by year’s end, and detail a strategy to refill the stockpile when prices drop, a senior administration official said. The plan is intended to add enough supply to prevent oil price spikes that could hurt consumers and businesses, while also assuring the nation’s drillers the government will swoop into the market as a buyer if prices plunge too low. Biden’s efforts to use federal powers to balance the U.S. oil market underscores just how much the conflict in Ukraine and rampant inflation has reshaped a president who came into office vowing to undo the oil industry and move the country swiftly to a fossil-fuel free future. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com It also shows the administration desire to keep inflation in check ahead of the mid-term election in November, in which Biden’s fellow Democrats hope to retain control of Congress. Earlier this year, Biden decided to sell 180 million barrels out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to combat a potential supply crisis brought about by sanctions on oil-rich Russia following its invasion of Ukraine. While the initial plan was to end those sales in November, purchases were slower than expected over the summer and some 15 million barrels remain unsold. Those will be put up for bidding for delivery in December, the senior administration official said, and extra oil could also be made available if needed. “If the conditions require, then we’ll be prepared,” the senior administration official said. Biden will also lay out a plan to refill the emergency reserve in the upcoming years, but only at prices at or below a range of $67 to $72 dollars a barrel for West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. oil benchmark, the official said. Biden’s hope is to send a signal to both consumer and producers. “He is calling on the private sector in the United States to do two things. One is take this signal and increase production, increase the investment, and number two is to make sure that as they are taking these profits, as they are benefiting from these markets, that they are continuing to give the consumer the appropriate price,” the official said. In recent weeks, the oil industry has grown increasingly concerned the administration might take the drastic step of banning or limiting exports of gasoline or diesel to help build back sagging U.S. inventories. They have called on the administration to take the option off the table, a move officials are unwilling to do. “We are keeping all tools on the table, you know, anything that could potentially help ensure stable domestic supply,” the official said.
