The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580 Review Grand Luxury And Technology Torque News
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580 Review, Grand Luxury And Technology – Torque News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/the-2022-mercedes-benz-s580-review-grand-luxury-and-technology-torque-news/ As I am reviewing the 2022 Mercedes-Benz 580S, I am thinking, who to recommend this very expensive car. I don’t know. Perhaps the supper wealthy (although I believe people should live humbly and not extravagantly). So why test this expensive vehicle that only a few people can afford. The good news, in fact, is that most of the new technologies that one can find in the 2022 Mercedes S580will be echoed in our cars within a few years. So we are discovering them in advance, even if it means test-driving it for a week for this review. The S-Class is a benchmark for luxury, comfort, innovation and technology. Even today, it is aimed at the ultra-wealthy, but with the introduction of the 2022 EQS EV, the large electric sedan, I seriously wonder whether it can still present itself as the true flagship of Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes-Benz S Class is one of the most revered cars in automotive history. Countless technologies and innovations were initially introduced in one or another generation of the S-Class. The first S appeared in 1951, but the principle of the limousine at Mercedes-Benz dates back to 1903. Exterior At the front, the S-Class has the manufacturer’s most advanced optical units. Powerful, 1 million pixel matrix laser illumination elements frame oncoming vehicles to prevent glare. The radiator grille changes a little in its shape, and we still retain the traditional silver star in the bonnet ornament. The S580 is long, and that’s normal considering its vocation. If ever the optics of owning a 5,289 millimeter car intimidates you, count on the “short” S500 at 5,119 millimeters. Even if it is completely revised, it maintains its semi-circular roof arch. For the rest, everything is smooth with a character line in the upper part that stretches over the entire body. The S580 looks like a limousine. As the Mercedes S580 is longer than the S550 Its S500, my test car’s longer wheelbase allowed for spectacular rear-seat clearance. Even the doors to give access to it are excessively large. And the two doors open very widely. Under the hood, the 2022 Mercedes S580 offers a noteworthy arsenal. Torque News got the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in our car. Its power: 496 horsepower and some 21 additional horsepower with the EQ Boost function. It is a very light hybrid mode. The 9-speed gearbox is installed in addition, as is the all-wheel drive. In addition, the directional rear wheels are an additional element for driving assistance. When you buy a car like this the fuel economy probably will not interest you. But we should care and be caring people. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580 gets 19 miles per gallon and 16/25 city/high MPG respectively. Interior What defines first and foremost an S-Class is the luxury of its cabin. This W223 is no exception. The interior design mixes high quality materials. The finish borders on obsession, and for once in a modern Mercedes-Benz, it doesn’t crack. Comfort is obvious, front or rear. There’s very little you can’t do with these seats. Heated and ventilated, of course, but we also offer several different massage styles. Adjustable in all directions, we find our account. It’s not so much the engine that impresses with its novelty, it’s more the interior comfort of driving. Imagine, a car so quiet that it’s like being in a sound booth. A high-end sound system is also in order. A large central screen displays the controls in a system called MBUX whose ergonomics are intuitive, and voice commands easy to use. Speaking of the MBUX: the MBUX Interior Assist, which recognizes gestures as well as hand movements towards the touchscreen or touchpad and highlights or activates the desired content, is one of the novelties in the 2022 S580. Another notable addition to the 2022 model year, is the availability of the company’s E-Active Body Control in the lineup. The augmented reality navigation function and voice commands also receive some updates to be even more natural. AR navigation now projects a sharper readout on the head-up display. Of course, the fluidity, graphics, sharpness and handling of all screens and cameras cannot be faulted Basically, the car simply acts as a personal assistant. An additional example: at the bottom of the screen, the S580 has a fingerprint reader that allows it to recognize you and associate you with a predetermined profile. Put your finger down, the seat will position itself for you, the heater will adjust and you’ll have your favorite station. The Burmester Surround 4D audio system distributes all the sound through 30 loudspeakers distributed throughout the cabin. The atmosphere is subdued by the ambient lighting which consists of fiber optics distributed every 1.6 centimeters. You will find more than 250 all around you.. Inside, the experience appeals to minimalism and quality. The leathers remind us of the most classic Mercedes, real leathers, very luxurious and with a thick texture. The same can be said of the wood finishes and metallic textures. In other words, the focus is much more the sensory experience, what you can touch and see. For the same reason, Mercedes worked a lot on the user experience: doors with soft opening and closing, soft cushions on the headrests, state-of-the-art ambient lighting, etc. Regarding the trunk, both body options (the S500 and S580) cover a total of 550 liters in the internal combustion versions. This figure is reduced to 350 liters in the plug-in hybrid. In addition, the trunk is not upholstered in its upper part, with exposed sheet metal. It does have lighting, a 12 V socket, some fasteners and various bags with cables and accessories. Another great novelty is that the S-Class has more than 50 electronic devices that can be updated over-the-air (wirelessly). As for driving, softness is in order, silence too, but the power develops without any hesitation. The Mercedes S580 is a giant in its world. By its dimensions of course, but above all by its disconcerting ease in offering comfort and softness. Among the models that aspire to rival the S-Class we find other sedans in its class, including Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Genesis G90. However, given the aspirations of the S-Class and the possibility of accessing very exclusive versions under the Maybach emblem, the S-Class can also be considered as a rival to the Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost. P.S. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S 580 that Torque News reviewed came with AMG floor mats, but this was not the AMG S 580. I guess Mercedes Benz USA likes to throw a couple of AMG items to make the car look “cooler.” Armen Hareyan is the founder and the Editor in Chief of Torque News. Russia-Ukraine War News: Live Updates – The New York Times https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/russia-ukraine-war-news-live-updates-the-new-york-times-3/ Image A grocery store without electricity in Lviv, Ukraine, after a Russian missile attack last week.Credit…Reuters KYIV, Ukraine — From towns near frontline battlefields to high-rises in the capital, Ukrainians were trying to conserve energy as President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Tuesday that Russian attacks over the past eight days had destroyed 30 percent of Ukraine’s power stations and caused “massive blackouts across the country.” The latest strikes have increased the likelihood of a miserable winter, with residents having to do without basic services such as heat and water. The World Health Organization has warned of the potential for a spiraling humanitarian crisis, given that a lack of access to fuel or electricity “could become a matter of life or death if people are unable to heat their homes.” The United Nations’ human rights body has said that deliberate strikes on such civilian targets could constitute a war crime. Mr. Zelensky urged Ukrainians in his nightly address on Monday to reduce their electricity use during peak hours to “enable the whole country to go through this period more stably,” and many residents and businesses have been doing their part. In his statement on Tuesday, he did not specify which power stations had sustained significant damage. On Tuesday, blasts hit a district on the eastern shore of the Dnipro River in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, according to the mayor, along with cities in the north and center of the country. The strikes on Ukraine in recent weeks have targeted both electrical infrastructure and thermal power plants. Many cities and towns rely on a centralized system to heat homes, pumping water from these thermal plants though pipes that reach houses and large apartment complexes across the region. If the plants are damaged — or the pipes — it could threaten heating across a wide area. Those who rely on electric heaters also risk facing a winter without proper warmth in their houses because of rolling blackouts. The attack on Kyiv killed three people and knocked out electricity and water in parts of the city, officials said, and came one day after Russia struck the city with exploding Iranian-made drones, apparently targeting electricity and heating facilities. In Kyiv, lights flickered just after 9 a.m., and residents living in the city’s eastern reaches said they had heard an explosion. The mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, said that an “object of critical infrastructure” had been struck. Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a senior official in Mr. Zelensky’s office, said that at least three strikes had hit an energy site, resulting in “serious damage,” without elaborating. Video Video showed smoke rising near power plants in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian attacks in recent days have destroyed 30 percent of the nation’s power stations, causing large-scale blackouts.CreditCredit…Unknown via Storyful By midmorning, people in Kyiv were lining up at stores to fill bottles with fresh water, and electricity suppliers warned that the city would experience blackouts while repairs were underway. Russia’s Defense Ministry said that it had launched long-range strikes on Tuesday targeting “the military control and energy systems of Ukraine” and depots storing foreign-supplied military weapons and equipment, and that “all the assigned targets had been neutralized.” It was not possible to verify the claim. Even as Russia’s forces lose ground on the battlefield to Ukrainian counteroffensives in the east and south, Moscow has stepped up its aerial bombardment of Ukrainian cities, including many, like Kyiv, that lie far from the front lines. On social media, shops, banks and other major retailers have posted photos of the measures that they are taking to reduce energy use, such as turning off illuminated signs. In the capital, some billboards are no longer lit up at night, and streetlights are being partly turned off. Still, towns and cities across Ukraine are dealing with rolling blackouts or going without power entirely. In Washington, Brig. Gen. Patrick S. Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, said on Tuesday that, with its latest airstrikes on Ukraine’s electrical grid, the Kremlin was “obviously trying to inflict pain on the civilian society as well as try to have an impact on Ukrainian forces.” “But what we’ve seen so far is Ukraine be very resilient and their ability to get things like their power grids back up online quickly,” General Ryder told reporters. Oleksandra Mykolyshyn and Eric Schmitt contributed reporting. Image A destroyed Russian military vehicle near Mykolaivka in Ukraine’s Kherson region earlier this month.Credit…Nicole Tung for The New York Times The commander of the Russian invasion said on Tuesday that his army may face “hard decisions” about its tenuous hold over the strategically important region of Kherson, just minutes after a top Moscow-appointed official there announced an evacuation of civilians from four occupied districts. Gen. Sergei Surovikin, the top Russian commander in Ukraine, acknowledged in a rare interview that the situation in the Kherson region has been “difficult” after the Ukrainian army damaged two key connections to other Russian occupied territory. For weeks, Ukrainian forces have been advancing slowly toward the regional capital, the city of Kherson, in a counteroffensive aimed at driving the Russians back across the Dnipro River. In a video statement, Vladimir Saldo, the head of the regional occupation administration, said that residents would be evacuated from four districts on the west side of the Dnipro River. Mr. Saldo — who was appointed governor of the Kherson region by the Kremlin shortly after Russia formally annexed the territory at the end of September — cited the risk of shelling and the need for Russia to build defensive lines to repel an expected Ukrainian attack. General Surovikin, in his first public remarks since he was appointed as head of the Russian military force in Ukraine on Oct. 8, said that the Russian Army would assist the evacuation and stressed the challenging conditions his forces face — with a tacit acknowledgment that a retreat from the city of Kherson might be necessary. “Our future plans and actions regarding the city of Kherson will depend on the unfolding military-tactical situation,” he said in a televised statement. “I repeat — today it is already quite difficult.” The announcements underscored Russia’s precarious hold on the strategically important swath of Ukrainian land that allows the Russian forces to operate on the western side of the Dnipro River, which divides the country into two halves. That control allows Russia to threaten the rest of the Ukrainian-controlled Black Sea coast, including the symbolic city of Odesa. Ukraine has coveted the liberation of Kherson since the first weeks of the war, when the city became the first — and so far only — regional capital to fall to Russian forces since the invasion began. But as Ukrainian forces push closer to the city limits, they face a conundrum: Unlike the Russian military, which has no apparent qualms about targeting infrastructure and killing civilians to achieve its war aims, Ukraine would like to avoid destroying Kherson in the process of recapturing it. If Russian forces put up a concerted fight to keep the city, Ukraine might hesitate to use all its firepower. Pro-Russian military bloggers — an increasingly vocal group in Russia — praised Gen. Surovikin for being honest about the challenges in Kherson. Many interpreted his statement as a sign that Russia might be preparing for a large-scale battle, while others said it could be a sign of a coming retreat. “There are three options here: either our forces would dig in where they are, or they would retreat to the city of Kherson, trying to engage the enemy in street fighting,” said Vladlen Tatarsky, a popular blogger. “Or they would evacuate.” Image Brittney Griner, who has been detained in Russia since February, in Khimki, Russia, in August.Credit…Evgenia Novozhenina/Reuters Brittney Griner, the American basketball star who has been detained in Russia since February, sent a message of thanks to her supporters on Tuesday — her 32nd birthday. According to a statement from two of her lawyers in Russia, Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov, Ms. Griner said: “Thank you everyone for fighting so hard to get me home. All the support and love are definitely helping me.” The lawyers said they had met with Ms. Griner for several hours on Tuesday and relayed messages from well-wishers. “Today is of course a difficult day for Brittney,” they said, adding that she was “very stressed” in anticipation of a hearing over the appeal of her conviction on drug charges, which is scheduled for Oct. 25. Ms. Griner told her lawyers last week that she was not optimistic about the chances of her being freed before serving her full nine-year sentence and that she was struggling emotionally. Ms. Griner is allowed outside once a day, according to Mr. Boykov, during which she walks for an hour in a small courtyard at the penal colony outside Moscow where she is being held. She spends the rest of her time in a small cell with two cellmates, sitting and sleeping on a specially elongated bed to accommodate her 6-foot-9 frame. While she awaits the appeals court hearing, Mr. Boykov said, Ms. Griner struggles in large part because it is “very difficult” to speak to her relatives. He added that it had been very difficult to organize phone calls with Ms. Griner’s wife, Cherelle, and that she had been unable to speak to her parents or siblings since her detention, as far as he was aware. Last Wednesday, President Biden said that there had been no movement with the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin, over Ms. Griner’s case. A White House o...

Talking Travel With The Newly Crowned Miss USA Forbes
Talking Travel With The Newly Crowned Miss USA – Forbes https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/talking-travel-with-the-newly-crowned-miss-usa-forbes/ Grant Photo All American bombshell and true Texas girl, and a Miss Texas at that, R’Bonney Gabriel is proudly born and raised in Houston to a Mom from Beaumont, and a Dad who came to America at age 19 on a college scholarship with $20 in his pocket. As the first Filipina-American to proudly wear the Miss USA crown, she brings her Southern charm married with her value for hard work as the foundation blocks of her career in pageantry. She recently granted me an exclusive interview about all-things-travel, discussing some of her on-the-road tips. What was your favorite destination that you traveled to in the past year? Belize! I love the island, driving around in golf carts, the lobster dishes, and I received my scuba diving certificate there and was able to see stingrays and a reef shark in the water. Do you have an overall favorite hotel? My favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at was a villa alongside a river in Pai, a small peaceful mountain town in Northern Thailand. Best vacation ever? My best vacation ever is definitely the solo trip I took for two months after I graduated college to Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. I only packed a backpack with a few shirts, shoes, and swimsuits. I was able to create so many memories from attending the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan, overnight camping on a volcano in Mt. Rinjani, and taking surfing lessons from a mute instructor in Lombok, Indonesia. Best souvenir bought on a trip? When I traveled to Mumbai, India I found the most beautiful fabrics with floral embroidery and hand beading — I had to take it all home with me! I was so inspired by all the vibrant colors of women’s clothing in India, when I returned back to the States I designed my own dresses with the gorgeous fabric. How do you stay fit and trim in your travels — what do you eat, and how do you exercise? I always start my day with a quick yoga session and a morning walk for cardio and hit the gym if one is available. I always look for meals that stay within my meal plan-which is oatmeal and eggs in the morning, shrimp and green beans for lunch, and salmon and asparagus for dinner. I do my best on finding meals similar to that without being too hard on myself if I am unable to stick to it. I usually allow myself to have 1-3 pieces of chocolate or caramel rice cakes in my purse to munch on anytime or anywhere. How do you turn your hotel room into a haven? I bring my galaxy light with me everywhere. I use it at night to project the stars and moon onto the ceiling. I drink hot tea and put on some jazz or soul music at night to wind down before bed. Fave brand of luggage? Briggs & Riley, they gifted me beautiful suitcases when I won Miss Texas USA and it’s definitely an upgrade from my beat-up suitcases with broken handles. Health and wellness products that you swear by? Tumeric wellness shot when my sinuses are acting up! If I’m starting to feel sick, I bake a whole clove of garlic and eat it quickly to boost my immune system, and I, actually, love the way it tastes. I also take a daily women’s multivitamin and vitamin D in the morning, and complete my day with magnesium citrate in the evening. Beauty products that you swear by? For products, I love the Ordinary Buffet Serum every night and SeneGence Tinted Sunscreen Moisturizer every day, but when I need to kick it up a notch, I turn to TempSure Envi and Potenza Microneedling treatments by Cynosure. Both of these Radiofrequency treatments have made my skin so much tighter and refreshed without major downtime, which is a huge plus for me. What is always in your carryon bag? My MacBook in case I need to do some work, a sketch pad to draw designs because I get very inspired when I am up in the air, and a good book. I’m currently reading Relentless by Tim Grover. Most important, I have a coffee before my flight. Favorite airline? United! I grew up flying United because my mother worked for them for years. I have been fortunate to travel to over 15 countries because of these benefits. How do you pack your crown? Very carefully! I don’t travel with my Mouawad “Power of Positivity” crown all the time, but when I do the crown has its own box lined in velvet with a lock. Where is your next vacation trip? I am heading to Las Vegas for a work trip. As soon as I return, I plan on focusing and preparing for Miss Universe on January 14. I have another trip planned to the Philippines with Miss USA Organization’s charity partner Smile Train. Then back to training prep! What destinations are on your bucket list? Anywhere in South America, I’ve never been there! I would love to visit Iceland, rent a van and explore Australia, go on a Safari in Africa and visit more islands in the Philippines. What hotels are on your bucket list? Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve in South Africa and the Watamu Treehouse in Kenya. I love the outdoors and I’ve always dreamed of staying in a beautiful tranquil treehouse. For more about my Wanderlust Travels, please Follow me on Instagram at @DebbiKickham.

Introducing The SELF Well-Read Book Club—and Our First Official Pick! – Self https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/introducing-the-self-well-read-book-club-and-our-first-official-pick-self/ Around the office we talk a lot about what we’re reading—and I don’t think that’s just because we’re editors and writers. For so many of us, reading is a true form of self-care. At various points in my life, plowing through a book has even felt like medicine: I can’t count how many times I got through anxious weeks or months by escaping in a good story. As I’ve gotten older and become more curious, reading has also become a way for me to challenge my beliefs, expand my awareness, and simply live well. I’m always looking to work on myself and suck all there is out of life. (And, whenever possible, make life feel a teensy bit easier.) If you’re still reading this, I’m betting you feel the same. So I’m pleased to introduce the SELF Well-Read Book Club! Each month we’ll announce a new pick that we’ll read right alongside you and hundreds of other SELF readers. The books we read will span a range of topics—from mental health and self-help to fitness, relationships, and healthy living. By staying in the loop, you’ll get access to SELF content that complements our pick of the month, intimate Instagram Live chats with the author, exclusive excerpts, and more. So let’s jump right in! Our November Well-Read Book Club pick is—drumroll please—Running While Black: Finding Freedom in a Sport That Wasn’t Built for Us, by athlete, activist, and mental health advocate Alison Désir. Running While Black—which comes out today—is part memoir, part cultural critique, and part call to action: Désir shares her own story of becoming a Black distance runner in an unwelcoming white space while taking her readers through gut-wrenching accounts of what it means to be both Black and a runner at large, from national news stories like that of Ahmaud Arbery to troubling encounters and experiences she’s had throughout her life. The stories (and histories) Désir weaves together are captivating, eye-opening, and often even uncomfortable in their raw honesty and personal perspective. That’s all to say: This story is important, and we can’t wait to read it all together. By the way, you may be familiar with some of Désir’s work already: She founded Harlem Run and Run 4 All Women. In 2017, she ran from New York City to Washington, DC, to raise money for Planned Parenthood. We also honored her in our 2017 SELF Healthy Living Awards. And on top of it all, Désir remains a leading expert and coach in the sport, incorporating her knowledge of running and that of mental health care (Désir has a master of education in counseling psychology) to change how all of us can work to make the sport a healing space for everyone. So what now? First, buy the book here or here. Then, mark your calendars—we’ll be doing an Instagram Live Q&A with author Alison Désir on Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m. EST at @selfmagazine. If you’re curious to get a taste of what this month’s pick is all about, read an exclusive excerpt from the book here. And for related reading from SELF on the subject of race and fitness, see below. The Razorbacks are one of five teams to place multiple players on the list.    Sanders paces the SEC and ranks second nationally in sacks (6.5) and forced fumbles (3) this season. The Denton, Texas, product is the first Arkansas defender with three or more forced fumbles in a season since DL McTelvin Agim (3) and DL Armon Watts (3) in 2018. Sanders has a team-leading four games with 10+ tackles, including a pair of multi-sack efforts, and ranks fourth in the league in total tackles with 63. With the help of Sanders, Arkansas leads the conference in sacks (21.0) and sacks per game (3.0). Stuffing the stat sheet in Arkansas’ SEC opener vs. South Carolina, Sanders recorded 11 total tackles with 3.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup. Since 2000, only two SEC defenders have registered double-digit tackles with 2+ sacks, 2+ forced fumbles and at least one pass breakup in a game: Sanders (Arkansas) vs. South Carolina in 2022 and Greg Hardy (Ole Miss) vs. Alabama in 2007.  Stromberg anchors a dominant Arkansas offensive line that blocks for the SEC’s leading rusher, Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, who has amassed 870 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns so far this season. Behind Stromberg’s blocking, the Razorbacks have recorded a 100-yard rusher in a program-record eight consecutive games dating back to the 2021 season. The Razorbacks rank second in the league in rushing yards per game (240.0) and average 488.57 yards of total offense per game in 2022. Playing in 542 offensive snaps at center this season, Stromberg has allowed zero sacks or quarterback hits. Stromberg helped Arkansas’ offensive line control the line of scrimmage against BYU Saturday, paving way for 644 yards of total offense – its most since compiling 676 yards at Ole Miss in 2021. Stromberg blocked for an offense that totaled 277 yards on the ground with two touchdowns while protecting QB KJ Jefferson, who completed a career high 29 passes for 367 yards and five passing touchdowns against the Cougars.  Sporting News is one of five outlets used to determine consensus All-American status.  Following a bye week, Sanders, Stromberg and the Hogs travel to Auburn for an 11 a.m. CT kick on Saturday, Oct. 29. The game will air on SEC Network. For ticket information, call the Razorback Ticket Center at 479-575-5151 or click here.

6 Best Nonstick Pans Of 2022 Top-Rated Nonstick Pans Delish
6 Best Nonstick Pans Of 2022 Top-Rated Nonstick Pans Delish
6 Best Nonstick Pans Of 2022 – Top-Rated Nonstick Pans – Delish https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/6-best-nonstick-pans-of-2022-top-rated-nonstick-pans-delish/ Sarah Ceniceros Everyone knows the tragedy (and horrible burning smell) of getting food stuck to your skillet. But you don’t have to suffer through breakfasts of charred scrambled eggs and blackened pancakes. You may love your stainless steel cookware, but any professional chef will tell you—everyone should own at least one nonstick pan. Another benefit of owning a nonstick pan is that it doesn’t require a lot of oil or butter to prevent sticking, which leads many to think it’s the most healthy cookware to use. To settle the score on the healthiest type of nonstick pan, we turned to the Director of the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Kitchen Appliances & Culinary Innovation Lab, Nicole Papantoniou, who has nearly a decade of experience professionally testing kitchen tools and gadgets. “I don’t like saying that the pan itself is healthy because it’s a pan and you don’t eat it,” Papantoniou quipped. “But cooking with a nonstick pan allows you to use less oil, which leads to a consumption of fewer calories, so it could be healthier because of that. You also tend to use a lower cooking temperature with nonstick pans, and some think that cooking food at lower temperatures is healthier than blasting it with heat.” Regardless of your reasoning, picking up one of these kitchen essentials is bound to get you jazzed about all the pan-fried salmon, fluffy French omelets, and sizzling skillet recipes like lemon-herb chicken and potatoes you’ll be making—all with minimal cleanup and no sticking, shredding, or scorching. Inexpensive, long-lasting nonstick pans. We have recommendations for the best frying pans for every type of cook, but if you’re looking to outfit your whole kitchen, you’re in luck! Whether you’d prefer to spring for a whole nonstick or ceramic cookware set or you want to splurge on a sleek, buy-it-for-life cast iron skillet, we’re here to offer a helping hand. Our top picks How we picked these products To find the best nonstick pan, we turned to our friends at the Good Housekeeping Institute, who have identified the best and highest-rated brands and put them to the test. Their team of on-staff experts—which includes all types: engineers! data analysts! registered dietitians!—rigorously put everyday products to the test (and then more and more tests) in their New York City-based labs to determine which ones you can trust. From frying and scrambling over 120 eggs to searing 15 steaks, these Kitchen Tech Experts put a plethora of pans (in fact, 80 nonstick cookware sets and 15 additional nonstick pans) through rigorous tests to analyze their user-friendliness, durability, cleanability, weight, heat distribution and retention, ergonomics, and ability to balance on a stovetop. After reviewing their findings and discussing their road tests in-depth with Papantoniou, we’ve determined that these are the best nonstick pans you can buy in 2022. 1 Best Nonstick Pan OXO Good Grips Pro Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-inch Frying Pan 2 Best Budget Nonstick Pan Tramontina PRO Fusion 10-Inch Aluminum Nonstick Fry Pan 3 Best Splurge Nonstick Pan Le Creuset Le Creuset Toughened Nonstick Pro 10-inch Fry Pan 4 Most Durable Nonstick Pan Ninja C30026 Foodi NeverStick Premium 10¼-inch Fry Pan 5 Best Ceramic Nonstick Pan GreenPan Valencia Pro Hard Anodized Ceramic Nonstick 10-inch Frying Pan 6 Best Stainless Steel Nonstick Pan Made In Made In 10-inch Non Stick Frying Pan 7 Are nonstick pans safe? Nonstick pans have gotten a bad rap from those ugly rumors of toxicity, but the truth is, these are not the nonstick cookware sets you grew up hearing about. They are lightweight, affordable, convenient, and perfectly healthy (as long as you heed the manufacturer’s recommendations). Nonstick cookware gets its signature slick, nonreactive surface from a synthetic coating like perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) or the FDA-approved polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Even if these chemical compounds don’t sound familiar, you’ve likely heard of their more popular brand name: Teflon. But before you start worrying about carcinogens and chemicals, it’s important to note that PFOAs and PTFEs are inert (a.k.a. they won’t react with chemicals inside or outside your body). Not only are these compounds safe to cook with, but also, let’s not forget why “Teflon” is practically synonymous with “durability.” However, that doesn’t mean your nonstick pans will last forever, even if some brands claim otherwise. Papantoniou provided some insight on how often you should replace your nonstick pans: “You likely need to replace your nonstick pan every couple of years. Over time the nonstick coating starts to wear, and any time you see a nick or scratch on the surface, you’ll want to replace it because it compromises the integrity of the pan,” she said. Some brands tout having the longest-lasting nonstick cookware, but she explained, “It’s less about the brand and more about the pan’s construction. Some have more layers than others, for example, which makes for a better nonstick pan.” Between shopping for a nonstick pan with the right materials and caring for it properly, you can get a good 5-10 years out of it before its time to shop around for a replacement. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your nonstick pan: You should never—ever—use nonstick cooking spray on a nonstick pan. It may seem counterintuitive, but these sprays gradually leave a film on the nonstick surface that is nearly impossible to remove, and therefore compromises the coating’s integrity over time. However, you still need to put oil, butter, or some kind of fat in a nonstick pan. (Trust us, it’s healthier in the long run if you do than if you don’t!) “You never want to heat a nonstick pan without anything in it, so using oil helps you not overheat it ultimately,” Papantoniou advised. “And in terms of cooking, it’s not needed per se, but it definitely makes things taste better.” Meanwhile, there is a spray you can use on your nonstick pan: Nonstick repair spray. To repair a nonstick coating and make your nonstick pan, well, nonstick again, this nifty spray should do the trick—just keep an eye out for any scratches. Unless otherwise permitted by the manufacturer, do not use metal utensils with your nonstick pan or put in the dishwasher. Metal utensils can of course cause scratches and scuffs that threaten the longevity of nonstick coatings, but harsh soaps, high pressure, and scalding temperatures can cause equally disastrous results. Some manufacturers may say it’s okay, but it’s best to avoid using nonstick pans over high heat to prevent damage or the release of harmful odors or chemicals. Instead, consider cooking with low to medium-low heat. (And in the event cooking on high heat is unavoidable, try not to do so for longer than 30 seconds.) When the time comes to send your nonstick pan off to pasture, Papantoniou had some advice for what you can do once you’ve determined it’s time to throw away your old, scratched, and ineffective nonstick pans: “Check your manufacturer’s instructions to see what the best disposal process is. Some metals are recyclable, but with the coatings, it can depend, so always check the manufacturer’s instructions.” 8 How do you choose a nonstick pan? Whether you’re a longtime nonstick fan looking to replace your trusty pan or you’re a nonstick novice, we’re here to make sure you don’t get burned by crummy cookware. These versatile pans are already plenty affordable, but you also want to ensure they meet your needs in the kitchen. First and foremost, it’s important to know what makes a good nonstick pan. “I like a nonstick pan that has some heft to it, so it’ll sit on your burner without toppling, and ones that take a little bit longer to heat up, so you don’t risk getting to that 450º F temp fast, which is typically the maximum temperature recommended for using nonstick pans,” Papantoniou explained. “I like coatings that say they can be used with metal utensils, not necessarily because I want to use metal utensils, but because it’s a good indicator that they’re more durable. And cleanup is really important too—pans that have some grit to them, which makes them more durable, are actually harder to clean.” When selecting a nonstick pan, construction is key. But there are a lot of factors to choose from, such as weight, materials, and design features. Pans with more heft can get you a good sear on a steak, but they’re not as easy to lift and flip. Meanwhile, more lightweight pans can be less durable and heat up too quickly. Papantoniou had some pointers if you’re struggling to choose a nonstick pan: “I think the main thing to consider is, how are you going to use it? Are you looking for something to just make eggs in the morning, or are you looking to cook a whole meal for your family? Because that will determine the size—an 8-inch pan is good for a single portion of eggs and breakfast foods, whereas 10 inches is a good average size, and our test kitchen likes 12 inch pans for cooking in bigger batches. The second thing I would look for is material. Do you want a standard nonstick pan that lasts a little longer, or do you want a ceramic pan that can somewhat handle higher temperatures? And then the other thing is heft. If you’re looking for something lightweight, it’ll heat faster and it’s easier to handle, whereas if you go with something heavier, it’ll be more durable.” Kaitlin Mahar Contributing Writer Kaitlin Mahar is a California-based freelance writer covering the shopping and lifestyle beats.

The token trades above most of its moving average (MA) indicators, except its 200-day MA of $7.80. A positive moving average convergence divergence (MACD) demonstrates a buy signal for HT, and the token’s relative strength index (RSI) of 53.34 shows that it is underbought.  Buy Crypto on eToro now Successful Buyout Excites Market As an exchange token, developments within the Huobi exchange should spur the price of HT. And this month, the exchange entered into a buyout agreement.  An official announcement shared weeks ago confirmed that About Capital Management, an asset management firm based in Hong Kong had become the controlling shareholder of Huobi Global following a successful buyout deal.  The buyout fee, which remains undisclosed, sees About Capital become Huobi’s largest shareholder. The asset management firm plans to fuel Huobi’s international brand promotion and business expansion. The first action of the owners would see a shakeup in the exchange’s corporate structure. Huobi also pointed out that the change in management doesn’t represent any switch in its core business operation and management structure. However, the exchange has confirmed that it plans to move its operating base from China. With the Chinese government adopting a hardline stance against cryptocurrencies in the past few years, Huobi and About Capital believe this is a perfect time to move to a base with better, more welcoming crypto laws.  Justin Sun Joins Huobi Advisory Board As part of its governance overhaul, About Capital plans to build a global strategic advisory board led by leading industry figures to help steer Huobi in the right direction.  This week, the company made its first strategic recruitment, bringing on crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun. Speaking to Bloomberg earlier this week, Sun confirmed that he had been asked to join Huobi’s advisory board, adding that he had also purchased millions of HT. Sun, who founded the TRON blockchain network, stressed that he had not yet acquired a stake in Huobi.  IMPT: Ideal for Value-Seeking Investors Although HT has massive prospects, it’s not the only crypto asset offering investors value. One token that has witnessed significant investor demand is the presale of IMPT.  The Ethereum-based token powers the Impact Project, a blockchain ecosystem that supports environmental sustainability efforts worldwide and helps users to buy carbon credits. Campaign Countdown: Meet The Vt. Candidates For US House – WCAX https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/campaign-countdown-meet-the-vt-candidates-for-us-house-wcax/ BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The midterm election takes place in only three weeks and features the race for Vermont’s lone seat in Congress. With Representative Peter Welch seeking to replace Senator Patrick Leahy, Democrat Becca Balint and Republican Liam Madden are vying for the open seat. Becca Balint is highly favored to win the U.S. House race, but that hasn’t stopped her from a busy campaign schedule trail her last-minute pitch to voters. Her signature message — a vote for experience. “Have a strong record of service in the state Senate and I’m proud of the work that I have been able to do with my House counterparts and with the governor over the last few years during COVID,” Balint said. The Vermont Senate President Pro Tem says getting up and getting out on the campaign trail is fueled by issues Vermonters are facing every day. “The housing crisis, the struggles to find child care, insurance for families around medical leave,” Balint said. She is also pushing for improved access to mental health care, single-payer health care, treatment for the opioid epidemic, gun violence prevention, women’s reproductive rights, canceling student debt, and tackling climate change. Talking with voters, she also wants to secure the fabric of our democracy. “They are very concerned with where we are headed as a democracy. and so to be somebody that is set on shoring up the democracy and voting rights and reproductive freedoms here in Vermont,” Balint said. If elected, Balint says she plans to reach across the political aisle to fellow lawmakers on issues when possible. And on her opponent, Liam Madden… “{He} has no experience passing any legislation that has impacted Vermonters,” Balint said. She also calls into question the self-described Independent’s position on the Republican ballot. “We don’t know what Liam is.” Madden though, says he knows exactly what he is. “On principle, I am an Independent but on practicality, I need to participate in the two-party system to be relevant in it,” he said. Madden says he chose the Republican Party because the pre-primary Democratic field was too crowded with candidates already raising large sums of money. He says his main platform is re-thinking democracy. “What we have is a political system that just tries to elevate one side over the other and I think that is just incredibly dysfunctional,” he said. On the issues, Madden’s main priority is climate change. He works in the solar industry and pitches the need for all renewable resources. On abortion rights, he says access to reproductive health is critical to women’s dignity and supports legislation to protect a woman’s right to choose, but only to a certain point. “After a baby can live outside the womb independently — along with 86% of Americans — I believe that child has rights that should be protected.,” he said. He also says he supports affordable, high-quality health care and an economy that works for Americans. His elevator pitch to voters — try something new. “I believe that we are capable of a profoundly more healthy way of doing politics and it’s not based on sending a new face to Washington over and over and wondering why the results continue to disappoint us,” Madden said. There are four other names on the ballot in the U.S. House race. They include Ericka Redic, one of the Republican candidates who lost to Madden in the primary, who is now running as a Libertarian. She says she wants three things from the government — integrity, transparency, and accountability. Redic says the first issues she wants to take up are term limits, reining in spending, and getting rid of omnibus bills in Congress. She hopes to win support from true Republicans, saying that Madden is not one of them. “I’ll have the GOP votes. The ones that I will lose are folks who don’t or aren’t engaged in the political process, that don’t know Liam is not a Republican. Or, there are people who unwisely believe a moderate can beat Becca — because again — we have already seen the moderate-Progressive matchup and the moderate lost,” Redic said. Also on the ballot are Independents Matt Druzba from Burlington, Adam Ortiz from Rutland, and Luke Talbot from Brighton. Best Practices For Letting Clients Know Youll Be Away Travelweek
Best Practices For Letting Clients Know Youll Be Away Travelweek
Best Practices For Letting Clients Know You’ll Be Away – Travelweek https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/best-practices-for-letting-clients-know-youll-be-away-travelweek/ And as you know, that can be after hours Mon-Fri because of their work schedule, an evening/weekend appointment to get the family together, or on the ‘discovery’ call with a potential new client (see my Sphere article on the discovery calls here). But what about your dream vacation, or just some much needed time off? What happens when you want to step away from your work for a few days – or longer? Since it’s all about communication, telling clients that you’ll be away weeks in advance is not unrealistic. For example, starting now if you’re planning to ‘shut down’ over the coming Christmas and holiday season. As soon as you know the dates, you can communicate this in your email signature, your newsletters, web site and social media. The message might read: ‘Please note I will be on vacation the week of December 26 and look forward to responding the week of January 2, 2023. Happy Holidays!’ One solution to having your work covered during your absence is to set up a buddy system with another advisor, perhaps another independent or a staffer at your home agency. Their contact information can be added to your out-of-office message (‘If this is an emergency, please contact….’). Of course, when they are away you can provide the same service for them. Another option is to commit to being available, say, two hours daily. That way you can still enjoy your vacation but reassure your clients you are not ‘abandoning’ them. Set specific hours and commit to them. We all know it’s easy to get sidetracked in our emails or with our clients. As much as we’d all like to forget work during our time off, it’s not only realistic but is also good for your business that you review your emails and other communications during your absences.  After all, you are an independent travel advisor because you are an entrepreneur. And the week between Christmas and New Year’s this year may find your clients on vacation too, dreaming of future trips. And while I don’t imagine they expect you to leap up from the middle of a family dinner to attend to their requests, it’s always good to reassure them that you are their travel advisor – and plan to stay that way!

Investigators found that adults ages 50 and older who slept for five hours or less per night had a greater risk of developing more than one chronic disease when compared with their peers who sleep seven hours. The findings were published October 18 in the open access journal PLoS Medicine. “Our study showed that sleep five hours or less is associated with 30 to 40 percent increased risk of onset of multimorbidity,” says lead author Severine Sabia, PhD, of Université Paris Cité, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), and University College London. The association remained in each decade of life, whether sleep was measured at 50, 60, or 70 years old, says Dr. Sabia. It’s estimated that about 1 in 3 Americans aren’t getting enough sleep; according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults should sleep at least seven hours per night for optimal health. Nearly everyone has a day here and there where they don’t get enough sleep — that hasn’t been shown to have long term health consequences. But when a person doesn’t get enough sleep for three months or longer, it’s known as chronic sleep deprivation or insufficient sleep syndrome. The hallmark symptom of chronic sleep deprivation is being excessively sleepy during the day as well as difficulty concentrating, thinking and remembering, according to the Sleep Foundation. People who are chronically sleep deprived can also have mood changes, including feelings of stress, anxiety, or irritability, and an overall lack of energy. 4 in 10 U.S. Adults Have 2 or More Chronic Diseases To find out more about how sleep and the risk of developing multiple chronic diseases, investigators used data from Whitehall II, a cohort study established in 1985 that included people employed in the London offices of the British civil service. Although sleep duration has been associated with individual chronic diseases, less is known about its association with multimorbidity — the co-occurrence of two or more chronic conditions, according to the authors. Generally speaking, a chronic disease is a condition that lasts one year or more requires ongoing medical attention or limits activities of daily living, or both. An estimated 6 in 10 adults in the United States have a chronic disease, and 4 in 10 adults have two or more, according to the CDC. The list of chronic diseases was chosen from previous research on multimorbidity and included diabetes, cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, depression, dementia, other mental disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Although obesity and hypertension are chronic diseases, they were not included in the study. Less Sleep Linked With a Higher Likelihood of Having Multiple Chronic Diseases There was data on sleep duration at age 50 for a total of 7,864 healthy (free from any of the chronic diseases) adults; 32.5 percent were women. Self-reported sleep duration was measured six times between 1985 and 2016, and researchers extracted data on how long subjects slept when they were (on average) 50, 60, and 70 years old. They found the following associations between sleep and having two or more chronic diseases: At age 50, those who slept five hours or less had a 30 percent greater risk of multimorbidity compared with those who slept seven hours. At age 60, those who slept five hours or less had a 32 percent greater risk and at 70 had a 40 percent greater risk compared with seven hours per night. Shorter sleep at age 50 was also associated with a 25 percent higher risk of mortality, mainly due to its association with an increased risk of chronic disease. The present study, along with evidence from previous studies shows the importance of sleep duration for good health at older ages, says Sabia. “Sleep is important for the regulation of several body function such as metabolic, endocrine, and inflammatory regulation over the day, that in turn when dysregulated may contribute to increase risk of several chronic conditions and ultimately death,” she says. According to the CDC, behaviors that can increase the risk of developing a chronic disease include tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure; poor nutrition, including not eating enough fruits and vegetables and eating too much sodium and saturated fats; physical inactivity; and drinking too much alcohol. The population studied was from the United Kingdom, and 90 percent of the participants were white, and so these findings need to be confirmed in a more diverse population, noted the authors. Sleeping Longer Appeared to Increase the Risk of Multimorbidity in 60- and 70-Year-Olds Investigators also found that sleeping longer than nine hours was associated with higher rates of multiple chronic diseases in 60- and 70-year-olds. The number of people sleeping that long was small — only 122 participants — and so firm conclusions can’t be drawn from this finding, says Sabia. The longer sleep could be attributed to the chronic diseases themselves, the authors wrote. “Further studies shall examine the role of long sleep duration in a large study population,” says. Sabia. Tips on Improving Your Sleep The CDC offers these tips to help you get on the path to better sleep and improving your overall health: Try to go to sleep and get up at approximately the same time every day. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, and at a comfortable temperature. Avoid large meals, tobacco, and alcohol before bedtime Exercise regularly; being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep at night.

San Diego Padres Vs. Philadelphia Phillies In 2022 NLCS: Schedule, Game Times, TV, Live Stream – USA TODAY https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/san-diego-padres-vs-philadelphia-phillies-in-2022-nlcs-schedule-game-times-tv-live-stream-usa-today/ It’s been more than a decade in the making, but the Philadelphia Phillies are back in the National League Championship Series and on the brink of reaching the World Series. It’s been even longer for San Diego — nearly 25 years — since the Padres last played in the NLCS. After an up-and-down regular season that saw the Phillies fire their manager in June and squeak into playoffs after some late-season struggles, Philadelphia has taken advantage of MLB’s new playoff format and gone on an unpredictable run past two of the National League’s toughest teams — the St. Louis Cardinals, who won the NL Central, and the Atlanta Braves, who soared past the New York Mets to win the NL East. The Padres overcame their own issues — including the loss of star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who was handed an 80-game suspension in mid-August for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy — to make their own magical run to the NLCS. San Diego first traveled to New York to dispatch a 101-win Mets team before conquering its biggest foe and most hated rival, the juggernaut Los Angeles Dodgers, who won a major-league leading 111 games this season. SUPER STARS: Linked by 2019 free agent frenzy, Harper and Machado square off in NLCS OPINION: It’s time fans adapted to MLB’s imperfect playoff format PLAYOFF SCHEDULE: Results, game times and matchups for every series The Phillies last played in the NLCS in 2010; the Padres last made that round in 1998. Here is everything you need to know to get ready for the National League Championship Series: What is the NLCS schedule? NLCS Game 1: Phillies at Padres on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 8:03 p.m. ET NLCS Game 2: Phillies at Padres on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 4:35 p.m. ET NLCS Game 3: Padres at Phillies on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:37 p.m. ET NLCS Game 4: Padres at Phillies on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:45 p.m. ET ∗NLCS Game 5: Padres at Phillies on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2:37 p.m. ET ∗NLCS Game 6: Phillies at Padres on Monday, Oct. 24 at 8:03 p.m. ET ∗NLCS Game 7: Phillies at Padres on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 8:03 p.m. ET (∗= if necessary) Who is televising the NLCS NLCS Game 1: FS1 NLCS Game 2: FOX/FS1 NLCS Game 3: FS1 NLCS Game 4: FOX ∗NLCS Game 5: FS1 ∗NLCS Game 6: FS1 ∗NLCS Game 7: FOX/FS1 (∗= if necessary) Is there a live stream for the National League Championship Series? Games can be streamed on the Fox Sports website (for those that sign in with their cable/satellite provider) and the Fox Sports app. Who are the scheduled starters for Game 1? Phillies: RHP Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA, 153 IP, 163 SO) Padres: RHP Yu Darvish (16-8, 3.10 ERA, 194 2/3 IP, 197 SO) Who are the scheduled starters for Game 2? Phillies: RHP Aaron Nola (11-13, 3.25 ERA, 205 IP, 235 SO) Padres: LHP Blake Snell (8-10, 3.38 ERA, 128 IP, 171 SO) San Diego weather looking good for Games 1 and 2 The Southern California city is known for its picturesque weather, and it won’t disappoint to start the series. The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday calls for clear skies with temperatures in the 80s. What’s the Philly weather look like for Games 3 and 4? The temperatures will be more like October baseball weather when the series heads to Philadelphia later in the week. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s to low-70s throughout the weekend with hardly any clouds until Sunday. The series’ East Coast leg wraps up just before the anticipated rain showers Tuesday. Phillies-Padres season series Philadelphia won the regular season series 4-3. The last game came June 26, which was an 8-5 Phillies win in San Diego. This will be the first time the teams have met in the playoffs. How did the Phillies reach the NLCS? After finishing third in the NL East with an 87-75 record, the Phillies locked up the third and final wild card spot in the third-to-last game of the regular season. They swept through the best-of-three wild card round in St. Louis against the NL Central champion Cardinals. Moving on to the NLDS, the Phillies stunned the 101-win Braves by holding on for a 7-6 Game 1 victory, then suffered a setback in Atlanta in Game 2 before routing the reigning World Series champions in Games 3 and 4 in Philly to lock up the best-of-five series. How did the Padres reach the NLCS? After finishing second in the NL West with an 89-73 record, the Padres clinched a playoff berth on Oct. 2, one day before the Philies. The Padres stunned the Mets by taking two of three games in New York in the wild card round to advance to the NLDS. In the all-Southern California NLDS, the Padres shocked the world again. The Dodgers got off to a hot start, taking Game 1 in Los Angeles before the Padres stole one back in Game 2. Returning to San Diego, the Padres won two consecutive tight games against their rivals in Games 3 and 4 to claim the best-of-five series. Contributing: Ellen Horrow, USA TODAY

How Adidas Builds Metaverse Experiences And Partnerships MarTech
How Adidas Builds Metaverse Experiences And Partnerships MarTech
How Adidas Builds Metaverse Experiences And Partnerships – MarTech https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/how-adidas-builds-metaverse-experiences-and-partnerships-martech/ Adidas VP global marketing Erika Wykes-Sneyd at the DPAA Global Summit in New York. Image: DPAA. Over the last two years, iconic shoe brand Adidas has been establishing a metaverse presence by collaborating with tech partners and creators and also rolling out their own NFT. Leading the effort is Erika Wykes-Sneyd, who spoke about the brand’s journey at the recent DPAA Global Summit. She has experience in fintech and gaming technology at PlayStation, Venmo and Uber. Here are the steps Adidas has taken so far. Build a metaverse-ready team Adidas began their metaverse journey in February of 2021. Tesla’s Elon Musk had just tweeted that his company would accept payment for cars in Bitcoin. This boosted the credibility of cryptocurrency, as well as the underpinning blockchain technology that governs transactions in web3. If more users were going to be collecting and showing off blockchain-based NFTs, then this was a space in which brands should also be involved. Wykes-Sneyd started a metaverse task force allowing anyone within the organization to opt in and contribute ideas. “I immediately found a lot of passionate individuals in the organization who were already thinking about the space,” she said, adding they were “front line workers,” who weren’t in the C-suite or IT department. They were people who, during pandemic lockdowns, were spending more time getting involved in web3 projects on the side, often on Discord. From the 55 people who initially showed interest on a company chain email, Wykes-Sneyd created a 22-person taskforce that included employees across the organization. Members of the taskforce were then invited to pitch ideas. “We found opportunities and the talent pools that were sitting in the organization,” said Wykes-Sneyd.  Using these ideas, Wykes-Sneyd developed a go-to-market strategy with the same foundations in consumer and category research that she uses with other product launches. The difference, she said, was in this case it was a bottom-up process involving people at all levels of the organization. “Bring in the people that live it on a day-to-day basis,” she said. “It’s not going to come from the top-down.” Choose partners carefully “There’s a lot of different ways to get into this space, but you could argue that ours came with more risk because we did put an NFT on blockchain and now we have to service that community in perpetuity, until we decide we’re not going to do this anymore,” Wykes-Sneyd said. With younger consumers moving from social media platforms to Discord and 3D virtual gaming platforms like Roblox, Adidas wanted to make sure they had an authentic, credible presence in front of the web3 audience. Adidas dropped an NFT allowing the users who purchased it to be part of a special club of like-minded Adidas fans. They partnered with a well-known pioneer in the crypto space, GMoney. For better or worse, they also partnered with Bored Ape Yacht Club, an etherium-based NFT collective – who are well known in the community and have recently been investigated by the SEC. Adidas also participated in brand placements on NFT-based comics created by PUNKS Comics. “It’s really difficult for marketers to find ways to be culturally credible, native and organic, and so it’s going to be the rise of these micro-communities where smart, savvy marketers are going to be showing up next,” said Wykes-Sneyd. Dig deeper: How Under Armour’s Curry Brand shoes are taking off in the metaverse Create a roadmap Building cultural currency with a skeptical audience that demands authenticity requires a long-term game plan. Each partnership Adidas has built brings more exposure to web3 users and demonstrates the brand’s commitment to the space. Each step in the journey gets the brand closer to selling real merchandise and virtual wearables and tokens through web3 channels. The plan is for Adidas to build secondary revenue on merchandise by including an NFT with each individual item sold. When pairs of Adidas shoes are resold, the NFT’s blockchain will record that transaction. And built into that blockchain will be an agreement that awards Adidas a cut of those secondary sales. But whether it’s actual merchandise, or virtual wearables for avatars, the point is for consumers to be able to flex their brand affinity wherever they are. “Identity is the next big thing to explore,” said Wykes-Sneyd. “How do you want to identify in your virtual world? How is that identification going to show up? What do you want to be? What’s your pseudonym going to be, what kind of traits do you want?” She added, “There’s a real hopefulness in the space. Please don’t get stuck in the negativity. Start to look past that, because once you do, you will be more unlocked to the opportunities this younger generation is searching for. And they’re going to make it happen with or without us. So, I would say we want to be with them.” Get MarTech! Daily. Free. In your inbox. While Gods Unchained is a top NFT collection by trading volume, Alien Worlds is one of the most trending NFT games out there.  Top NFT collections, 17 Oct 2022, Source: DappRadar  However, their supremacy is coming to an end as a new NFT card game takes charge with gripping game mechanics and lower barriers to entry. As revealed by a rapidly progressing presale, Calvaria will mark the beginning of a new era of card games.  A Crypto Game for Non-crypto Users  There are dozens of NFT card games. Once they’re well-versed in gameplay, they can move to the play-to-earn version. The card game hosts tournaments where the cards represent different characters, each with its own unique sets of abilities. You need to defeat opponents using complex strategies and tactics to win rewards and upgrades. The ratings agency said that consumer spending will drive a modest expansion in real GDP for the United States in the second half of 2022, at around 0.3% per quarter. But a slowdown in job growth, rising unemployment, aggressive interest rate policy and higher inflation is likely to take a toll on consumer spending in 2023, Fitch said. Polling Problems Ahead Of Midterm Election The Paisano UTSA The Paisano
Polling Problems Ahead Of Midterm Election – The Paisano – UTSA The Paisano https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/polling-problems-ahead-of-midterm-election-the-paisano-utsa-the-paisano/ Editorial Board October 18, 2022 On Oct. 6, the Texas Organizing Project (TOP) officially filed a lawsuit against Bexar County and the Bexar County Elections Office. The lawsuit was filed due to the number of polling places within Bexar County and claimed that this year’s midterm elections will have the lowest number of polling places the county will have ever seen during a general election.  In 2020, a similar lawsuit was filed by TOP and MOVE Texas over the number of polling places. Bexar County originally planned for 284 polling places, but after losing the suit, the number was increased. This year Bexar County initially approved 259, a considerable decrease from years prior.  After the lawsuit was initially filed, Judge Martha Tanner ruled that Bexar County must add approximately 129 polling places ahead of the election. According to Texas voting laws, a county must have half as many voting places as they have districts. With Bexar County having 776 precincts, that means they must accommodate a minimum of 388 polling stations. Year after year Bexar County fails to hold its elections up to statewide standards, yet the county is barely receiving any backlash or punishment. Even with the increase of polling places due to Judge Tanner’s ruling, Bexar County will still be under the minimum state-specified guidelines for the acceptable number of polling places per county.  Throughout Texas, voters are experiencing some of the most blatant attacks of voter suppression in modern times. Alongside Bexar County’s failures, Texas has no online voter registration, limits the number of people who can vote by mail, has stringent voter ID laws and much more under Senate Bill 1.  Bexar County and the state of Texas are failing you as a voter and a citizen. As citizens, we must vote and protect our rights, and it just so happens that our right to vote and its credibility are at stake. Check if you are registered to vote at https://www.vote.org/. Early voting begins on Oct. 24 and runs until Nov. 4, and Election Day takes place on Nov. 8.

Get A Jungfrau Region Pass The maze of ski passes available can be mind-boggling. Take your time deciphering which ski areas you wish to tackle. Multiple-day passes are a good value if you plan to ski several days in a row. You will find the price of the ski passes very reasonable. Many passes have senior discounts, making them even more attractive. It will be easier to navigate the region if you purchase a pass that includes the trains, especially if you are staying in Grindelwald, Wengen, and Interlaken. The Jungfrau Region Pass covers Kleine Scheidegg, Mannlichen, Grindelwald-First, and Mürren-Schilthorn. It is the most comprehensive ski pass for the region. If you are skiing for more than a day or two, you will want to experience all the slopes, making this pass a great option. Jungfraujoch — The Top of Europe Photo credit: Sandi Barrett 3. They provide everything from skis and snowboards to parkas and goggles. In the Grindelwald Wengen ski area, Intersport Rental Network offers several location options with rentals that fit your needs. 5. Make Time For Adventures Beyond The Ski Slopes The Jungfrau ski region can be a bit overwhelming — after all, it comprises two valleys and three mountain ranges. With 211 kilometers (over 130 miles) of groomed slopes, there is a lot of ground to cover. Taking a tour is a great way to get a handle on the area, make new friends, and try something new. Consider a snowshoe tour or a night sledding adventure — the perfect way to take your Swiss Alps vacation to the next level. Well-equipped wanders will enjoy the many winter hiking trails. Miles of pristine fields of snow broken only by footsteps and snowshoes offer crisp mountain air and a great workout. Sledding, sledging, or tobogganing, however you label it, is a superfast way to get down to snow level. Watching the local children navigate the sledging runs at top speed is fascinating. They have acquired great skill in navigating the slick, downhill course. It could be your newest intrepid adventure. Paragliding in Interlaken Photo credit: Sandi Barrett 6. Biden Looks To Increase Oil Supplies Ahead Of Midterm Voting – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/biden-looks-to-increase-oil-supplies-ahead-of-midterm-voting-69news-wfmz-tv/ WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden — a president who wants to move past fossil fuels — is rushing to increase oil supplies ahead of next month’s midterm elections. Administration officials have teased that additional oil can be released from the U.S. strategic reserve as part of a response to recent production cuts announced by nations in OPEC+. The prospective loss of 2 million barrels a day — 2% of global supply — has had the White House saying that Saudi Arabia sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin and pledging that there will be consequences for supply cuts that could prop up energy prices. Multiple White House officials say that the U.S. strategic reserve contains roughly 400 million barrels of oil, and Biden could order an additional release as early as Wednesday, when chief of staff Ron Klain said he is set to deliver remarks on his administration’s efforts to lower gas prices. Still, reserves are at their lowest levels since 1984 after Biden in March announced the release of 180 million barrels over six months. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss plans publicly ahead of a White House announcement. Bloomberg News reported Monday that the administration is moving toward an additional release of 10 million to 15 million barrels. That range would not cover even one full day’s use of oil in the U.S., according to the Energy Information Administration. Biden has pledged to speak about his plans to reduce gasoline prices this week. Jared Bernstein, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said that a past release of oil from the U.S. strategic reserve contributed to a decline in prices at the pump this summer. That decline ended last month as prices began to rise again, though they’ve eased somewhat in the past week. Bernstein suggested to Fox News Sunday that the reserve is large enough that the White House could tap it again. “There are still 400 million barrels of oil in the strategic reserve — it is more than half full,” Bernstein said, adding that Biden had not yet made a final decision on releasing more barrels. Biden still faces political headwinds because of gas prices. AAA reports that gas is averaging $3.87 a gallon, up from a month ago when falling prices at the pump suggested that the president and his fellow Democrats were faring better in surveys. An analysis Monday by ClearView Energy Partners, an independent energy research firm based in Washington, D.C., suggested that two states that could decide control of the evenly split Senate — Nevada and Pennsylvania — are sensitive to energy prices. The analysis noted that gas prices over the past month rose above the national average in 18 states, which are home to 29 potentially “at risk” House seats. Even if voters want cheaper gasoline, expected gains in supply are not materializing because of a weaker global economy. The U.S. government last week revised downward its forecasts, saying that domestic firms would produce 270,000 fewer barrels a day in 2023 than was forecast in September. Global production would be 600,000 barrels a day lower than forecast in September. Because fossil fuels lead to carbon emissions, Biden has sought to move away from them entirely with a commitment to zero emissions by 2050. When discussing that commitment nearly a year ago after the G-20 leading rich and developing nations met in Rome, the president said he still wanted to also lower gas prices because at “$3.35 a gallon, it has profound impact on working-class families just to get back and forth to work.” Since Biden spoke of the pain of gas $3.35 a gallon about 11 months ago and his hopes to reduce costs, the price has risen another 15.5%. Exercise During Chemo Helps Your Heart, Lungs Recover – HealthDay News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/exercise-during-chemo-helps-your-heart-lungs-recover-healthday-news/ TUESDAY, Oct. 18, 2022 (HealthDay News) — When you are getting chemotherapy, exercise may be the last thing on your mind. Now, new research suggests it should be the first. Exercising during chemotherapy is safe, improves long-term cardiac and respiratory function and may help ease some of the ravages of treatment, Dutch researchers report. If you can’t exercise during chemotherapy, then you should start after treatment to get your heart function back to normal, they added. “These findings suggest that the most optimal timing of physical exercise is during chemotherapy,” said senior study author Dr. Annemiek Walenkamp, a medical oncologist at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands. “However, initiating an exercise program after chemotherapy is a viable alternative when exercising during chemotherapy is not possible,” Walenkamp said. “We hope health care providers guide patients to engage in exercise interventions during anti-cancer treatment.” During chemotherapy, peak oxygen uptake, a predictor of heart health, typically declines by up to 25%, the researchers noted. Cancer treatment can also affect quality of life and cardiac and respiratory fitness. Not only that, it can trigger extreme fatigue and cardiovascular death, they added. For the study, Walenkamp and her colleagues looked at the benefits of exercise among patients in a tailored exercise program. The patients suffered from breast cancer, colon cancer, testicular cancer or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. All were to undergo chemotherapy. The participants were randomly selected to take part in a 24-week exercise program either during or after treatment. Exercise included a stationary bicycle, weight machines, free weight lifting and badminton. In the end, the researchers found that those who exercised during chemotherapy felt less tired and exercised more. In addition, they also had better heart and breathing function and greater muscle strength. Those who began exercising after three months of chemotherapy also showed some improvement. Both groups were back to their normal cardiorespiratory fitness one year after completing the exercise program, the researchers found. The report was published Oct. 18 in the journal JACC: CardioOncology. “This study is an important addition to the field of exercise oncology,” said Dr. Eric Yang, director of UCLA’s cardio-oncology program. He was not part of the study, but reviewed the findings. “Exercise has yielded many benefits in our field of cardiology, and given the advances made in cancer treatments where more and more patients are living longer and surviving with their disease, it is important to evaluate strategies to optimize their heart health and quality of life,” Yang said. Although cancer treatments now have less toxic effects, treatment can still damage the heart, he explained. “Because of many common side effects, such as fatigue, low blood cell counts, nausea and low energy, this directly and indirectly affects one’s ability to normally exercise and maintain a daily routine, and thus affects cardiovascular reserve and health,” Yang said. Exercise is important to help counter the negative effects on the heart that cancer treatment can cause, he pointed out. “It is important to not throw heart health to the wind, now that more and more evidence is emerging that these few years of treatment can put them at increased risk of cardiovascular events in the long term,” Yang said. Cancer treatment is changing, and patients are advised to be concerned with their overall health, not just their cancer, he said. “The old era where it used to be where you were told to just focus on your cancer treatments, eat what you want, rest, is becoming outdated,” Yang said. “This, amongst many other studies, has shown it is safe to exercise, with some caution towards high-intensity regimens.” He hopes patients will maintain as much of a healthy lifestyle as they can during chemotherapy. “I encourage patients to maintain as much normalcy as possible and tolerated during their treatments,” Yang said. “I understand that they cannot necessarily exercise to the same degree as they used to before their cancer treatments, but I emphasize to them and their families that exercise and healthy eating is paramount and will be a great investment to their quality of life in the long run. And, as this study demonstrates, if you can’t exercise during your treatments, start after — it’s better late than never.” More information For more on cancer and exercise, see the American Cancer Society. Tips For Chartering With Kids On Board Cruising World
Tips For Chartering With Kids On Board Cruising World
Tips For Chartering With Kids On Board – Cruising World https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/tips-for-chartering-with-kids-on-board-cruising-world/ Bareboating with the kiddos Denis Moskvinov/ Shutterstock.com A bareboat charter is perfect for kids. It’s fun, it’s educational, and it bonds parents and children. Rediscovering the joys of boating through the eyes of a child is a remarkable experience that transports you back to your own first days on the water.  But, as with everything involving kids, you’ll need to plan ahead for success.  Set the ground rules long in advance, reinforce them before you cast off, and offer subtle reminders during the charter. The most important rule is that the skipper’s word is law. With two families aboard, parents should sort out the various issues in private. Bottom line: One person is in charge. Life jackets are essential, but how and when you require them is up to each parent. In my case, all preteens have the run of the cockpit and the cabin without life jackets. Set one foot on deck, and the life jacket rule is in force. Adults should set a good example by wearing their own PFDs so that the kids don’t feel like outcasts. Before you depart for your charter, find comfortable life jackets for the kids: Wearing bulky PFDs is a quick way to turn a swell trip into a hell trip. Life jackets for youngsters should be lightweight and flexible for their active lifestyle, and ideally have colors that are “cool” designs. With a comfortable PFD, kids won’t think twice about wearing it constantly. If possible, have them wear the life jackets before the trip to make sure there aren’t any chafing issues. Kids also need nonslip shoes just like adults, and they need sun protection in the form of hats, sunglasses (with cord!), sunblock and protective clothing. And, to fully integrate them into the “crew,” they should have their own sailing gloves as well. No running and no horsing around until they get ashore. And no kids on deck unless an adult is present. No youngster leaves the boat without permission from an adult. For smaller kids, no one goes forward (even at anchor) without an adult present and on watch.   When it comes to swimming, the buddy system is always in effect, either with another youngster or with a parent. The Boat and Trip For several reasons, I’m partial to catamarans, both power and sail, when it comes to kid charters. Cats have more room inside for playing, they’re more stable, and kids love the trampolines on the foredeck.   When planning your charter, try to break the distances into small chunks to prevent boredom. A four-hour passage between two harbors can benefit from a short beach stop that creates a pair of two-hour trips, and lets the kids unleash that pent-up energy too.   As any parent knows, comfort foods can save the day. Whether it’s a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch or a special cereal for breakfast, make sure you have all the makings on board. It’s a good idea to pack some of their favorite treats in your luggage too because snacks and candy brands aren’t universally available.   Trust me, kids will be hungry from all the activity, so take plenty of nonperishable snacks. It’s nice to think that they should all be nutritious, but, hey, this is a vacation. Mix up a routine of potato chips with cereal bars, and dried fruit with peanuts.   A bareboating pleasure for adults is the happy hour, so include the kids. Create virgin piña coladas or Shirley Temple daiquiris to enjoy with the grown-ups. Time for Fun Snorkeling is a part of bareboating, but let them try it first in shallow water on a beach. Not only does it feel more secure when they can put their feet down, but it’s a lot easier to adjust masks and fins in shallow water.   Most charter companies offer masks, snorkels and fins with their charter package, but my experience is that children’s sizes are slim pickings. Buy these at home so you know they fit, and take them with you.   Kids need sun protection in the water, so take some tightly knit T-shirts to protect their backs. Since they’ll want to explore the beaches and reefs, have reef-runner slip-on shoes too. Get the kids involved on the boat. Let them take the helm, crank a winch, place a fender. Give them a piece of line, and teach them a few knots before the charter. Then, during the charter, have them tie a few knots for real projects such as fenders or dock lines. Reinforce these efforts with praise.  For better or worse, this is the digital age, and many kids are addicted. One professional skipper solves this problem by telling young guests that he has to confiscate their gadgets because, as on airplanes, they interfere with the navigational equipment.   On the other hand, kids love the electronics on board, and a chart plotter (with supervision) can fascinate the youngsters with planning courses and setting waypoints. Share the responsibilities. One family regularly appoints different youngsters to specific duties, with titles such as dinghy captain (tending the tender), buoy officer (pointing at the buoy for the helmsman when mooring) and forward lookout. Most kids get a kick out of cooking, and the barbecue on board is the perfect chance for them to learn how to flip burgers and steaks. After all, every restaurant has a sous chef to handle the details. Why not a bareboat? A bareboat charter is a wonderful educational opportunity in so many ways. One family takes books on birds, fish and the local area. Learning about the islands and the wildlife then becomes the key to evening trivia contests. Encourage and help your youngsters to keep a journal or log of the charter. They can add postcards and drawings, as well as everything from shells to postage stamps from the area. These are not only fun to look at in future years, but they also provide the basis for school reports or show-and-tell sessions. There are a number of logbooks aimed at youngsters in most marine stores, or you can make your own. Kids need their space, so be sure to designate areas where they can keep their things and have their private time. Have enough blankets and pillows available if they want to curl up for a nap (or make a blanket fort).  Don’t forget the simple stuff. Being allowed to stay up late and sit on deck with the adults to gaze at the stars (a star chart is helpful) is always a special treat. On one drizzly charter, we taught the kids to play hearts, and they loved beating us.  One last piece of advice: Don’t overplan everything. Families already have overcrowded worlds with too much scheduling. Use your bareboat charter as a chance to play together, enjoy each other, and just relax.  Most important, chill out and have fun. Award-winning writer Chris Caswell is a regular CW contributor and the editor and publisher of Charter Savvy, a digital magazine for bareboat charter.  Pirate Treasure  Treasure map “found” in a bottle. Chris Caswell Pirates are endlessly enthralling to kids, so you might trace a treasure map that, amazingly, matches your itinerary. It could be “found” in a bottle on a beach, and it might just lead to a trove of chocolate doubloons. You’ll need to take the bottle with you (glass, not old merlot), along with parchment-type paper, a pen that seems old (not a ballpoint), and doubloons. Stash the “treasure” and then “find” the bottle. Don’t forget the “10 paces due west from the colored rock” directions. —CC
