What that team did 50 years ago was difficult enough, but in today’s NFL it’s a nearly unattainable feat. (AP Photo/File) MIAMI (AP) — Fifty years ago, members of the 1972 Dolphins team lifted fiery coach Don Shula onto their shoulders for a victory lap out of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, celebrating not just a Super Bowl victory over Washington, but an emphatic exclamation point on the NFL’s only perfect season. Not that the Dolphins ever spoke of perfection. Mere mention of the word felt taboo. Fifty years ago, the Miami Dolphins defeated the then-Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl to complete their perfect 17-0 season. Even though they weren’t chasing perfection at the time, they ended up accomplishing something that no team since has repeated. (AP Photo, File) “I can’t imagine somebody whispering to somebody and Coach Shula happening to overhear the fact that, ‘Hey, guess what! We’re 11-0,’” said starting offensive tackle Doug Crusan. “Oh my goodness, couldn’t do that.” They did the unspeakable anyway, going 17-0 for a mark that could stand another 50 years or more given the parity and length of the modern NFL season. The 2007 New England Patriots came close, going 18-0 before a Super Bowl loss. This year, the 6-0 Philadelphia Eagles are the last remaining threat — with a long way to go. Those ’72 Dolphins shined in an era before trades and ongoing player movement between teams leveled the playing field. Roster restrictions could have just as easily worked against them, though. Fifty years ago, the Miami Dolphins defeated the then-Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl to complete their perfect 17-0 season. Even though they weren’t chasing perfection at the time, they ended up accomplishing something that no team since has repeated. (AP Photo, File) One bad injury might have derailed that magical season, and one nearly did. Miami starting quarterback Bob Griese broke his right leg and dislocated his ankle in Week 5. Fortunately for the Dolphins, they had a powerful running game behind Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris and Jim Kiik. They were also motivated — not by perfection, but atonement. They’d lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl the season before and sought redemption, proof that the previous season, despite many opinions, wasn’t a fluke. They didn’t know at the time they were becoming one of the NFL’s highest symbols of accomplishment. “The confidence built as each week went by,” Crusan said. “We got stronger and stronger. And of course, you go into the playoffs and you never know what’s going to happen with those three games. We just got better and better and better as the season went on.” To achieve perfection, they strove to be as close to polished as possible. And Shula, known for his inflammatory temper, pushed them there, reminding them often of that Super Bowl loss. “Losing was a great motivator for Don Shula. He hated it, and he wanted his players to hate it,” said Joe Horrigan, a pro football historian and former executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “He said, ‘You remember that bad taste in your mouth? Keep it.’ That was his philosophy.” Training was intense. They’d sometimes practice three or four times a day. “I was worn out mentally as well as physically,” said defensive back Charlie Babb, a rookie that year. “Just the long season and the type of practices and the type of pressure that Shula and the coaching staff put on you to be perfect.” As perfect as they tried to be, they also needed to be lucky. They didn’t blow teams out, and there were a couple close calls. One of their biggest tests came in the playoffs against the Cleveland Browns on Christmas Eve. The Browns held a 14-13 lead with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. Miami hadn’t trailed that late in a game since Week 3. Behind backup quarterback Earl Morrall, in for the injured Griese, the Dolphins used a 35-yard catch by Paul Warfield to set up an 8-yard touchdown run by Kiik to move to 15-0. “The ball has to bounce your way in just about every game,” said Larry Seiple, a punter. “There were games that we had chances to lose, as well as win.” Seiple said he doesn’t believe that another perfect season will happen, at least not in his lifetime. Free agency and trades have expedited the ability to move players around, creating more parity. And with 17-game regular seasons, Horrigan believes going undefeated isn’t as big a priority as getting to the postseason. “You hear the cliché ‘One game at a time,’” Horrigan said. “No one’s thinking, ‘Let’s win 10 in a row.’ I don’t think anybody would be shooting for it.” Horrigan added that it’s especially hard to go undefeated with the advances in technology, especially replay. “I told Don Shula this once, I said ‘You know, if there were instant replay, you might not have been undefeated,’” he said. “There were mistakes made just as there are now, but it would go unnoticed. As close as some of those games were, one play could have made a big difference.” The 2007 Patriots, with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick, got to the brink of matching Miami. The New York Giants ruined that in the Super Bowl — and with it, spoiled the best chance in several generations to witness perfection. “If any team was going to do it, I thought that team with that quarterback would be the one,” longtime NFL defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said. The 1985 Chicago Bears went 18-1 on their way to winning the Super Bowl. The one loss? To Miami, 38-24 victors over the Bears in a Monday night classic where the Dolphins simply would not allow another team to be perfect on its watch. Akron in 1920, and Canton in 1922 and 1923, both were undefeated champions — but all those clubs also tied at least one game. They weren’t perfect. This season, the Eagles are the NFL’s last undefeated team behind quarterback Jalen Hurts. They have wins over the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys under their belt. With a remaining schedule that includes just four teams with winning records, many believe that the Eagles have an open path to the Super Bowl. FanDuel Sports Book currently lists their season win over-under bet at 13.5. But only the Miami Dolphins can say perfect. “It’s not easy,” Seiple said. “Most teams, you start out with that idea, and as the season goes on you start to lose some players because of injuries, it kind of slips through your fingers.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million Cryptonews
Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million Cryptonews
Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/shiba-inu-price-prediction-as-shib-trading-volume-blasts-past-100-million-cryptonews/ Shiba Inu price is in the process of validating a crucial bullish pattern, likely to send it up 16.25% from the breakout point to $0.00001208. As previously discussed, the second-largest meme coin rebounded after tagging support at $0.000000960.  Shiba Inu Price Eyes A 16% Move Amid A Trading Volume Blast Shiba Inu’s trading volume zoomed past the $100 million mark, brushing shoulders with $135 million over the last 24 hours. The surge in volume across exchanges comes just days after the tech giant Google announced support for SHIB payments following a strategic partnership with Coinbase. According to live price data from CoinMarketCap, SHIB’s trading volume is up 19.72%. Centralized exchanges (CEXs) account for $133 million of the volume, with decentralized exchanges (DEXs) bringing in only $2 million. Shiba Inu Price Prediction: Forecasting A Sustainable Bullish Move An inverse head-and-shoulders (H&S) pattern on the four-hour chart could be the motive behind the high trading volume. This highly bullish pattern often leads to a bullish trend reversal. The left shoulder (valley) appears first, followed by a longer valley (head), and the pattern matures with a second higher valley (shoulder). Traders usually look for long positions when trading this pattern. Its breakout target is the distance between the head and the neckline.   SHIB/USD four-hour chart Shiba Inu price is now trading slightly below the neckline resistance. A break above that same level is necessary to ascertain the validity of the trend. Meanwhile, the 50-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) is in line to give SHIB immediate support at $0.00001030. The MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) dons a buy signal on the same four-hour chart. In other words, a bullish outcome is looking likely based on these indicators. The MVRV (market value realized value), an on-chain metric by Santiment, shows that investors consider SHIB to be in a buy zone. An MVRV reading below the mean line (0.00) infers that the Shiba Inu price is undervalued. With that in mind, investors are unlikely to sell until the MVRV returns above the mean line. In other words, there is a higher probability that demand will increase, and SHIB will move north to validate a 16.25% breakout to $0.00001208.   Shiba Inu MVRV Ratio The bear market seems strong and far from over owing to the unhealthy global economic environment. Traders should consider booking early profits to avoid bull traps, especially when insight from the IOMAP model by IntoTheBlock is considered.   Shiba Inu IOMAP chart From the above chart, Shiba Inu price recovery could fade at $0.00001100. Approximately 23,200 addresses purchased 67.33 trillion SHIB tokens around this area. As the price recovers, these holders may sell to breakeven, which builds downward pressure.  Meme Coin Alternative: Tamadoge (TAMA) Given Shiba Inu’s large supply, holders will likely be waiting a long time for SHIB to hit $1 per coin.  An alternative project, Tamadoge has a 275,000x smaller circulating supply, meaning TAMA requires much less effort to reach $1 than other meme coins on the market, including even DOGE. Analysts believe that Tamadoge is still one of the best-positioned meme tokens on the market due to its popular NFT drops and upcoming Metaverse projects. Buy TAMA on OKX CEX Buy TAMA on OKX DEX

Global Leaders Commit US$ 2.6 Billion At World Health Summit To End Polio World Health Organization
Global Leaders Commit US$ 2.6 Billion At World Health Summit To End Polio World Health Organization
Global Leaders Commit US$ 2.6 Billion At World Health Summit To End Polio – World Health Organization https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/global-leaders-commit-us-2-6-billion-at-world-health-summit-to-end-polio-world-health-organization/ Today, global leaders confirmed US$ 2.6 billion in funding toward the Global Polio Eradication Initiative’s (GPEI) 2022-2026 Strategy to end polio at a pledging moment co-hosted by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) at the World Health Summit in Berlin. The funding will support global efforts to overcome the final hurdles to polio eradication, vaccinate 370 million children annually over the next five years and continue disease surveillance across 50 countries. “No place is safe until polio has been eradicated everywhere. As long as the virus still exists somewhere in the world, it can spread – including in our own country. We now have a realistic chance to eradicate polio completely, and we want to jointly seize that chance,” said Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany. “Germany will remain a strong and committed partner in the global fight against polio. This year, it is providing EUR 35 million for this cause. And next year we plan to further strengthen our efforts and support GPEI with EUR 37 million – pending parliamentary approval. By supporting the GPEI, we are also strengthening national health systems. That leads to healthier societies, far beyond the polio response.” Wild poliovirus is endemic in just two countries – Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, after just six cases were recorded in 2021, 29 cases have been recorded so far this year, including a small number of new detections in southeast Africa linked to a strain originating in Pakistan. Additionally, outbreaks of cVDPV, variants of the poliovirus that can emerge in places where not enough people have been immunized, continue to spread across parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, with new outbreaks detected in the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom in recent months. “The new detections of polio this year in previously polio-free countries are a stark reminder that if we do not deliver our goal of ending polio everywhere, it may resurge globally,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We are grateful for donors’ new and continued support for eradication, but there is further work to do to fully fund the 2022-2026 Strategy. We must remember the significant challenges we have overcome to get this far against polio, stay the course and finish the job once and for all.” At a challenging time for countries around the world, governments and partners have stepped forward to demonstrate their collective resolve to eradicate the second human disease ever. In addition to existing pledges, new commitments to the 2022-2026 Strategy this fall include: Australia pledged AU$ 43.55 million France pledged EUR 50 million Germany pledged EUR 72 million Japan pledged US$ 11 million Republic of Korea pledged KRW 4.5 billion Luxembourg pledged EUR 1.7 million Malta pledged EUR 30 000 Monaco pledged EUR 450 000 Spain pledged EUR 100 000 Turkey pledged US$ 20 000 United States pledged US$ 114 million Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledged US$S 1.2 billion Bloomberg Philanthropies pledged US$ 50 million Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America pledged US$ 1.8 million Latter-day Saint Charities pledged US$ 400 000 Rotary International pledged US$ 150 million UNICEF pledged US$ 5 million The pledging moment in Berlin marked the first major opportunity to pledge support toward the US$ 4.8 billion needed to fully implement the 2022-2026 Strategy. If the Strategy is fully funded and eradication achieved, it is estimated that it would result in US$ 33.1 billion in health cost savings this century compared to the price of controlling outbreaks. Further, continued support for GPEI will enable it to deliver additional health services and immunizations alongside polio vaccines to underserved communities. “Children deserve to live in a polio-free world, but as we have seen this year with painful clarity, until we reach every community and vaccinate every child, the threat of polio will persist,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “UNICEF is grateful for the generosity of our donors and the pledges made today, which will help us finish the job of eradicating polio.  When we invest in immunization and health systems, we are investing in a safer, healthier future for everyone, everywhere.” In addition to the funding for GPEI announced today, a group of more than 3 000 influential scientists, physicians, and public health experts from around the world released a declaration endorsing the 2022-2026 Strategy and calling on donors to stay committed to eradication and ensure GPEI is fully funded. The group points to new tactics contained in the program’s strategy, like the continued roll-out of the novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2), that make them confident in GPEI’s ability to end polio. Five hundred million doses of nOPV2 have already been administered across 23 countries, and field data continue to show its promise as a tool to more sustainably stop outbreaks of type 2 cVDPV. The group further asserts that support for eradication significantly strengthens immunization systems and pandemic preparedness around the world—pointing to GPEI’s support for the COVID-19 response—and urges endemic and polio-affected country leadership to stay committed to expanded vaccination and disease surveillance activities. “Pakistan has made incredible progress against polio, but recent challenges have allowed the virus to persist,” says Dr. Zulfi Bhutta (Chair of Child Global Health, Hospital for Sick Children, Canada, and Distinguished University Professor, Aga Khan University, Pakistan). “Polio, like any virus, knows no borders; its continued transmission threatens children everywhere. Stopping this disease is not just urgently needed now, it’s within our grasp. That’s why I’ve joined more than three thousand health experts from around the world to launch the 2022 Scientific Declaration on Polio Eradication. With strong financial and political commitments, our long-awaited vision of a polio-free world can become a reality.” Additional quotes from the pledging moment Mark Suzman, CEO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, said: “The question is not whether it’s possible to eradicate polio—it’s whether we can summon the will and the resources to finish the job. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is grateful to Germany, Rotarians, donors, countries, scientists, and partners who stood together today to show that we are united in this goal. We look forward to working together to create a polio-free future and build more equitable and resilient health systems for all.” Seth Berkley, CEO, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, said: “As we work together to stop the transmission of all polioviruses globally, we are more grateful than ever for the generosity of our donors, the leadership of governments and the mobilization of communities. Today’s pledges will support GPEI’s new strategy which correctly focuses on mass vaccination campaigns, concerted efforts by partners to strengthen essential immunization and integration with other critical health interventions and a further roll out of next-generation oral polio vaccines. These three measures combined are essential if we are to eradicate polio once and for all.” Franz Fayot, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Luxembourg, said: “Luxembourg is proud to be a longstanding supporter of global efforts to eradicate polio. Building on the remarkable progress achieved so far, Luxembourg will continue to support the fight against polio until we ensure the protection of every child.” Ian Riseley, Chair, Rotary Foundation, said: “While polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. This is an opportune moment for the global community to recommit to the goal and ensure the resources and political will are fully available to protect children from polio paralysis while building stronger health systems. That is why today, Rotary is reaffirming its commitment of an additional USD 150 million to the global effort to eradicate polio.” His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, United Arab Emirates, said: “Polio outbreaks this year have emphasized that polio anywhere is a threat to communities everywhere. While we are encouraged by steady progress in Pakistan and Afghanistan in the drive towards polio eradication, we know that there is a ways to go to finish the job. We also know that this progress would not have been possible without the courageous contributions of frontline health workers, who have remained steadfast in their commitment to protecting their communities from polio in the face of the pandemic, natural disasters and threats to their physical safety. Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, we join our international partners in reiterating our commitment to a polio free world.” Notes for editors The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by national governments with six core partners – Rotary International, the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Tay-K Net Worth: How Much Money Does The Rapper Make? – GEEKSPIN https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/tay-k-net-worth-how-much-money-does-the-rapper-make-geekspin/ Tay-K, whose real name is Taymor Travon McIntyre, is an American rapper best known for his 2017 hit song, The Race. His rise to fame was quite unique, as most of his popular songs were released while he was on the run from the police or in the custody of the authorities. Though he remains behind bars for various crimes, he continues to make money through the songs he recorded prior to his imprisonment. Wondering how much money he makes? Read on to find out what Tay-K net worth is and how he made a name for himself in the music industry while facing several legal issues. What is Tay-K net worth? Tay-K net worth is estimated at $250,000 as of 2022. The majority of Tay-K net worth comes from his earnings as a rapper. These include the money he got from record deals, album sales, royalties from different music streaming platforms, and live performances when he was still free and just starting out. As of writing, Tay-K has 3.64 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Tay-K’s music career Tay-K began his rap career in 2014 as part of the rap group, Daytona Boyz, alongside rappers Pimpyz and Santana Sage. Though the group released a number of songs, including their first track, Drift, they barely got attention in the local rap scene. Things got a little promising for Tay-K when he started to release solo songs in 2015. For instance, his song Sly Cooper, which was released in September of that year, garnered local attention within the Arlington, Texas rap scene. However, his music career came to an abrupt stop when he was arrested, along with six other people, on capital murder charges in July 2016. Fast forward to January 2017, Tay-K was placed under house arrest while awaiting certification hearings, but a few days before the hearings were held, Tay-K and another suspect cut off their ankle monitors and fled to San Antonio, Texas. He then made his way to Elizabeth, New Jersey where he recorded his abovementioned song The Race, which is basically about his run from the police and his legal troubles. Pictured: Tay-K | A promo photo for his track, The Race The Race was released on June 30th, 2017 – the same date Tay-K was captured by the police. The song debuted at number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100 after the #FREETAYK campaign calling for Tay-K’s release from jail went viral on social media. Because of the track’s success, The Race has been remixed by numerous artists including Tyga, Lil Yachty, YBN Nahmir, Fetty Wap, and Rico Nasty, among many others. In December 2017, Tay-K’s debut mixtape Santana World was re-released by 88 Classic and RCA Records, which includes an updated remix of The Race featuring vocals from rappers 21 Savage and Young Nudy. The following month, The Race was certified platinum by the RIAA. In March 2018, it was revealed that Tay-K had earned around $600,000 to $700,000 with his record deal with 88 Classic and RCA Records. While earnings from record deals make up a huge portion of Tay-K net worth, the latter is also boosted by the money he gets from his own YouTube channel, where her songs and music videos are available to stream. His YouTube channel currently has more than 50,900 followers. Though he has a relatively big following on social media (194,000 followers on Facebook, 1.5 million followers on Instagram, and 153,900 followers on Twitter), Tay-K doesn’t earn money from them as he has been in jail for several years now. Tay-K legal issues In 2017, Tay-K was arrested, along with six other people, on capital murder charges related to a home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, which ended the life of Ethan Walker. Megan Holt and Ariana Bharrat conspired with Tay-K and some of their other friends to rob Zachary Beloate. Holt and Bharrat seduced Beloate and then let McIntyre enter the house, armed with guns, to steal drugs and money. One of the women unlocked the door and the gunmen proceeded to rob Beloate and his friend Walker, which led to a fatal confrontation and the death of Walker. Tay-K admitted his role in the botched robbery, telling detectives that he searched for drugs in the house. As previously mentioned, Tay-K fled to San Antonio, Texas a few days before the start of the hearing of the case. And while on the run, Tay-K allegedly shot and killed Mark Anthony Saldivar while participating in a robbery outside of a Chick-fil-A in April 2017. In July 2019, Tay-K was found guilty of murder for his involvement in the 2016 home invasion and robbery that left Walker dead and was sentenced to 55 years in prison. In November 2019, Tay-K was indicted on a second murder charge for allegedly shooting Saldivar. It is believed that Tay-K is currently imprisoned in Bexar County Jail while awaiting trial in the Saldivar murder case. Tay-K age Tay-K is currently 22 years old. He was born on June 16th, 2000. Tay-K parents Tay-K’s father is Kevin Beverly, while his mother’s name is not public knowledge. Kevin, a member of the Long Beach street gang, Baby Insane Crip Gang, was imprisoned during Tay-K’s youth. When he was eight years old, Tay-K moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with his mom and sister. But when Kevin was finally released from prison, he moved his family to Arlington, Texas, where Tay-K attended Martin High School, but dropped out in the ninth grade. Source: NetWorth202

Living With Atrial Fibrillation An Irregular Heart Rhythm Reading Eagle
Living With Atrial Fibrillation, An Irregular Heart Rhythm – Reading Eagle https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/living-with-atrial-fibrillation-an-irregular-heart-rhythm-reading-eagle/ At least 2.7 million people in the U.S. are living with atrial fibrillation, according to the American Heart Association. And because the risk of developing it increases with age and people are living longer, medical researchers predict the frequency will rise dramatically over the next few years. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm that can lead to blood clots in the heart. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Some people with atrial fibrillation don’t notice any signs or symptoms. Those who do may have sensations of a fast, fluttering or pounding heartbeat; chest pain; dizziness or lightheadedness; and shortness of breath. Treatment for atrial fibrillation depends on how long you’ve had it, your symptoms and the underlying cause of the heart rhythm problem. The goals of treatment are to reset the heart rhythm, control the heart rate and prevent blood clots that can lead to stroke. Treatment options can include medications, a therapy called cardioversion to reset the heart rhythm and surgery or catheter procedures. If you’re living with atrial fibrillation, these healthy lifestyle choices can reduce the symptoms and risks of complications: • Eat heart-healthy foods. Eat a healthy diet that’s low in salt and solid fats, and rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. • Exercise regularly. Exercise daily and increase physical activity. • Quit smoking. If you smoke and can’t quit on your own, talk to your health care team about strategies or programs to help you break a smoking habit. • Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight increases your risk of developing heart disease. Healthy weight loss can help manage symptoms of atrial fibrillation and may improve the results of catheter ablation. • Control blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Make lifestyle changes and take medications as prescribed to correct high blood pressure or high cholesterol. • Limit alcohol. Binge drinking — having five drinks in two hours for men or four drinks for women — can increase the chances of atrial fibrillation. In some people, even modest amounts of alcohol can trigger atrial fibrillation. • Get follow-up care. Take your medications as prescribed. Have regular follow-up appointments with your health care team and tell them if your symptoms worsen.

Marina Raphael’s New Bag Design Is Also Available In Metaverse – Forbes https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/marina-raphaels-new-bag-design-is-also-available-in-metaverse-forbes/ Courtesy of Marina Raphael October 18 — Luxury handbag designer Marina Raphael has launched today her newest capsule collection in collaboration with Eugenie Niarchos, Creative Director of Venyx World. What’s more — the bag is also available digitally in Metaverse as an NFT. Having established her eponymous label in 2018, Raphael’s range of bags has stayed true to the brand’s sophisticated and timeless aesthetics whilst also appealing to a contemporary fan base with creative and glamorous elements. A sixth generation member of the Swarovski family, Raphael’s design also sees the utilization of sparkles and crystals in abundance. Courtesy of Marina Raphael In true MR fashion, the new style features clean lines, robust silhouette and well-crafted details. Minimalist in shape, maximalist in the detail, the Venyx bag is contrary by nature and paradoxical in concept — a reflection of the two female entrepreneurs’ mutual appreciation in elevated design and gem stones, as well as a sense of futuristic innovation. The designers shared in notes that the piece “was conceived to exude a perpetual contrast between traditional leather goods creation and construction.” From its sleek and a tad conservative box-style design, its adorable miniature size and statement metal hardware, to the dazzling color variations of the crystals — the Venyx shape is set to become an instant classic, a bag that resembles a space-age jewelry box that is ideal for keeping secrets and life’s essentials. Courtesy of Marina Raphael In partnership with Niftify, an NFT marketplace and Web3 platform, the collaboration also sees Raphael venturing for the first time into the immersive virtual world of Metaverse with her inaugural launch of NFTs. The first ten customers to buy the physical bag online will be rewarded with a unique NFT, featuring an animation of the bag opening to unleash an outpouring of virtual gems. The NFTs unlock exclusive experiences and products including: – A limited edition rainbow crystal choker designed by Eugenie Niarchos, of which there are only ten in the world; – Attendance of upcoming private events that include pop-up stores, trunk shows, parties, sales events etc.; – Early access to product launches and exclusive collaborations; – Priority access for upcoming collections; – Unique Skins for future Metaverse integrations; – Personalization of a signature Marina Raphael design in collaboration with the designer. Angry Crypto Exchange Customers Will Get Compensation – If They Can Prove One Thing – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/angry-crypto-exchange-customers-will-get-compensation-if-they-can-prove-one-thing-cryptonews/ Source: totojang1977/Adobe The South Korean market-leading crypto exchange Upbit has announced that it will compensate traders who lost money during the power outage that blighted the platform’s login functionality over the weekend – but only if they can prove they were really going to sell their coins during the blackout. A fire broke out at a data center that hosts 32,000 of the chat app giant KakaoTalk’s servers on Saturday afternoon (KST), leading to an almost total blackout of services. This hit Upbit traders hard – as Upbit customers can only log onto the platform using a KakaoTalk-powered login service or using Apple IDs. For Android users without an Apple ID, the KakaoTalk login function remains their only way to access the platform. A number of upset traders claimed they were unable to make important sales over the weekend, with some stating that they had lost “hundreds of USD” worth of money on trades they could not execute. The exchange now says that it will compensate certain users – but those expecting an easy windfall may have to think again. The platform explained that it will require users to come forward with evidence that they were actually going to make the trades they claim they could not make while KakaoTalk was down. Upbit weekly trading volumes. (Source: CoinGecko) Digital Today also reported that only customers who actually sold coins at a loss would be due compensation – and those who decided to HODL their tokens after prices rose would miss out. Upbit explained that disgruntled customers “must provide specific facts and evidence” to support their claims – and must prove that they sold their tokens as soon as they were eventually able to log in to their accounts. The media outlet wrote, quoting the trading platform, that “customers who did not sell their cryptoassets due to a drop in price or other reasons will not be awarded compensation.” Compensation to Be Paid in BTC, Says Exchange An Upbit spokesperson was quoted as stating: “Since it is difficult to prove an intention to sell, we have decided to compensate those customers who actually sold their coins.” The company added that it would pay out compensation in bitcoin (BTC), with individual amounts to be calculated by October 31. Per CoinGecko data, the company’s 24 hour trading volume (at the time of writing) is $1,469,700,960, with CoinMarketCap putting the figure at $1,507,492,032.

Russia Hits Infrastructure Targets Across Ukraine, Targets Power And Water – Reuters https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/russia-hits-infrastructure-targets-across-ukraine-targets-power-and-water-reuters/ Three blasts hit port of Mykolaiv – witness City of Zhytomyr left without power, water Blasts heard in Kyiv, other cities hit Zelenskiy accuses Russia of targeting civilians Moscow denies that, says hitting infrastructure KYIV/MYKOLAIV, Ukraine, Oct 18 (Reuters) – Russian missiles crashed into infrastructure targets across Ukraine on Tuesday morning as Moscow stepped up what looked like a deliberate campaign to destroy electricity and water facilities before winter. The major of Zhytomyr, a city of 263,000 people, said the attacks had knocked out the power and water supply, and two explosions rocked an energy facility in the southeastern city of Dnipro, a city of nearly 1 million, causing serious damage, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a Ukrainian presidential aide. In the southern Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv, a missile slammed into an apartment building killing at least one man, a Reuters witness said, and blasts were heard and smoke seen rising in Kyiv, the capital. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com There were also reports of power facilities being targeted in the city of Kharkiv, a city with a pre-war population of 1.43 million people, close to the Russian border. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Russia of terrorising and killing civilians with the air attacks, which came a day after drone strikes on Kyiv and other cities killed at least four people. “Ukraine is under fire by the occupiers. They continue to do what they do best – terrorise and kill civilians,” Zelenskiy wrote on the Telegram messaging app. “The terrorist state will not change anything for itself with such actions. It will only confirm its destructive and murderous essence, for which it will certainly be held to account.” There was no immediate word on how many people had been killed in the strikes. Russia earlier this month named General Sergei Suvorikin as overall commander of what Moscow calls its “special operation” in Ukraine. Suvorikin served in Syria and Chechnya where Russian forces pounded cities in a scorched earth policy against its foes. A local resident takes pictures of a building heavily damaged by a Russian missile strike, amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine, in Mykolaiv, Ukraine October 18, 2022. REUTERS/Valentyn Ogirenko Nicknamed “General Armageddon” by the Russian media because of his alleged toughness, his appointment was followed by the biggest wave of missile strikes against Ukraine since Moscow invaded on Feb. 24. Russia carried out its latest strikes on Tuesday after the United States warned it would hold Moscow accountable for any war crimes. Moscow denies targeting civilians. Its defence ministry has said it is carrying out attacks on military targets and energy infrastructure across Ukraine using high-precision weapons. In the port city of Mykolaiv, a Reuters witness said they had heard three explosions in the early hours of Tuesday. A missile had completely destroyed one wing of a building in the downtown area, leaving a massive crater, they said. A fire crew was seen pulling the dead body of a man from the rubble. “In Mykolaiv, the enemy destroyed a residential building with S-300 missiles. A person died. There was also a strike at the flower market, the chestnut park. I wonder what the Russian terrorists were fighting against at these absolutely peaceful facilities?” Zelenskiy said. The Russian strikes followed advances by Ukrainian forces in the east and south and came after an Oct. 8 blast on a bridge linking mainland Russia to Crimea – the peninsula Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. U.S. President Joe Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday that the White House “strongly condemns Russia’s missile strikes” and spoke of Putin’s “brutality”. Putin sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24 in what he called a “special operation” to root out what it calls dangerous nationalists. Ukrainian forces have mounted stiff resistance, with the help of arms supplied by the United States and its allies, who have also imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in an effort to force it to withdraw. Google Rolls Out Gmail Redesign On IOS Settings – India TV News https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/google-rolls-out-gmail-redesign-on-ios-settings-india-tv-news/ Image Source : FREEPIK Gmail Tech giant Google has rolled out a Gmail redesign to make iOS settings simpler. Gmail settings on iPhone and iPad have been redesigned by starting with the elimination of the General and accounts separation, reports 9To5Google.  The preference list starts by separating settings for Chat and Meet, allowing users to swiftly turn off those tabs. Additionally, colourful icons are used to draw attention to each element. The ‘Notifications’ section has high-level controls, whereas the ‘Inbox’ and ‘Compose and Reply’ sections are quite simple. Lastly, there is a ‘General’ section. Even though it is exclusive to iOS, it is a fantastic redesign of Gmail’s settings that might come to Android. It is easier to use and similar to Chrome for iOS preferences, the report said. Earlier, the company had launched a pilot programme to keep political campaign emails out of spam folders for Gmail users. The programme allowed candidates, political party committees and leadership political action committees to apply for spam folder exemptions. “Google had come under fire that its algorithms unfairly target conservative content across its services and that its Gmail service filters more Republican fundraising and campaign emails to spam,” a report mentioned. Google allowed candidates and political party committees to apply for its programme that made their messages exempted from Gmail’s spam detection systems. Latest Technology News

Mouseplanet Walt Disney World Resort Update For October 18-24 2022 By Alan S. Dalinka MousePlanet
Mouseplanet – Walt Disney World Resort Update For October 18-24, 2022 By Alan S. Dalinka – MousePlanet https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/mouseplanet-walt-disney-world-resort-update-for-october-18-24-2022-by-alan-s-dalinka-mouseplanet/ Walt Disney World Resort Update for October 18-24, 2022 You can view a larger version of the photos included in the Update by clicking on the photo. Each photo will open in a separate tab without a caption.  Writer’s Note, News & Views Following last week’s change to Genie+ pricing (it’s now set dynamically by date rather than a fixed amount), it has been another quiet week for news around Walt Disney World Resort. Disney did share the less-than-specific news that the revised version of Fantasmic! will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in November (following the announcement earlier this year that the show would return before the end of 2022). The good news for those cast members (and us locals) that approach the Resort from the northeast via Reams Road this week is that the flooding between Bay Court and Magic Kingdom cast parking subsided sufficiently for Orange County to finally reopen the road this week for the first time since September 28 and the approach of Hurricane Ian. On the whole now, the Resort has fully returned to pre-Hurricane Ian operations. Of course, the tropical storm season continues through the end of November and storms do not know how to read calendars, so it remains important to keep tuned in for weather events as we head into Florida’s typically dry winter season. Views Around the World With the summer heat and humidity further fading now that fall is underway, I again made it over to three of the parks this past weekend and even took the long walk from Magic Kingdom to main parking via Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (and the new detour around the DVC construction that is underway). All of the parks were busy during my visits, so whatever lull in attendance that fall brought in the past was not evident when I was there. Magic Kingdom and Vicinity With Halloween about two weeks away, I noticed that the entrance to Magic Kingdom has already begun a slight transformation to Christmas: the Mickey head floral bed seems to consist of the winter holidays’ traditional red poinsettias. Photo by Alan S. Dalinka. With the TRON Lightcycle Run attraction expected to open in the Spring, pavement installation is now evident in this new expansion of Tomorrowland beyond the Speedway. Railroad tracks have been reinstalled around Tomorrowland and through a new tunnel under the TRON Lightcycle Run canopy. Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. is closed for refurbishment and its exterior look continues to evolve. This “exit through the gift shop” for Space Mountain likely will also serve as a merchandise location for TRON Lightcycle Run when it opens. The Walt Disney World Railroad remains closed because of the on-going construction of TRON Lightcycle Run. Next to the Fantasyland station, the railroad track re-installation remains incomplete. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka. At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the culinary team has created a Halloween display that pays tribute to The Haunted Mansion. Photo by Alan S. Dalinka. The walkway from Disney’s Grand Floridian to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort now detours away from Seven Seas Lagoon due to the construction of the new Disney Vacation Club tower on the former site of the Spirit of Aloha luau dinner theater. Detour signs lead guests walking between the two resorts through Disney’s Wedding Pavilion’s parking lot. To walk between Disney’s Grand Floridian and Polynesian Resorts, guest must now cross Floridian Way twice. A new crosswalk has been painted across Floridian Way at the exit to the Wedding Pavilion’s parking lot. Guests walking between the two resorts now share the path with the golf cart path along the Floridian Way side of the Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. The Magnolia Golf Course itself is undergoing a major reimagination right now as well. Guests cross Floridian Way near Disney’s Polynesian Resort where the golf cart path crosses the road. The detour between the resorts ends where the existing Polynesian longhouses stand. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka. Further south along Floridian Way where it approaches the Speedway Auto Center and World Drive, construction has finally resumed on the flyover ramps that began long-before the pandemic and its temporary shutdown of the resort. Steel framing for the future CommuniCore Hall (festival center) is visible from all over the west side of the park. From the monorail around the former Future World section of the park, guests can see quite a bit of ongoing construction now. The area where the Fountain of Nations formerly stood remains an active construction area. The future CommuniCore Hall (festival center) construction can be seen from the monorail as it heads to the station. The future Journey of Water inspired by Moana walk-through attraction continues to take shape ahead of its expected debut sometime next year. Some of the rock work for Journey of Water already shows some finer details. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Since our last Update, Disney got slightly more specific as to when the updated version of Fantasmic! will open: November. Socially distanced Donald was again appearing near the park’s entrance this weekend. Although about a third of the Cairo set was not on stage during a performance of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular on Sunday (along with about a third of the usual show), Indy and Marion stunt doubles still took a major leap off one of the towers. Exterior construction at the Roundup Rodeo BBQ table service restaurant continues. I hope that the “backyard” theme of Toy Story Land is restored to this area and the administration building beyond the restaurant is once again hidden when construction is complete. Disney has not shared an opening date for this restaurant that was originally announced for a 2020 debut. When browsing the stores of the park, it is never surprising that even some of the newest characters of Disney subsidiaries are available to help celebrate Halloween. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka. Hundreds Turn Up To Support KZN’s Mental Health Walk – Rising Sun Overport https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/hundreds-turn-up-to-support-kzns-mental-health-walk-rising-sun-overport/ Durban’s North Beach was a hive of activity on Sunday morning as activists, healthcare workers, and the public turned out in their numbers to support the annual Mental Health Advocacy Walk, now in its seventh year, bolstering its status as the largest free event for mental health activism in the province. Participants also had dance, aerobics, and yoga lessons. Hosted by the KZN Mental Health Advocacy Group, the walk is a partnership with civil society organisations, such as the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). Suntosh Pillay and Suvira Ramlall, who began the event in 2016, thanked the public for raising awareness to promote wellness and eradicate stigma against psychiatric conditions. “What’s really inspiring is that we’re creating momentum, advocacy and activism from the bottom up, so that this event is community-driven,” said Ramlall, a professor in psychiatry based at King Dinuzulu Hospital Complex. Pillay agreed, praising ‘the power of mass mobilisation to effect real change, on the ground, where it truly matters.’ ALSO READ: With poor mental well-being, SA must prioritise mental health “This is more than a walk. It builds social capital in the province, makes it easier for people to ask for help when they are in distress or suicidal, and promotes healthy living,” said Pillay, a clinical psychologist. This walk is about solidarity and visibility. Keith Ruthanum, deputy-director for mental health and substance abuse in KZN, reiterated that the theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day on October 9 is making mental health and well-being a global priority for all. Blanche Moila, an 18-time Comrades runner and retired nurse, said she joined the walk because there’s still a stigma against mental illness even though it can effect anyone, whether you’re a professional, a labourer, whether you’re rich or you’re poor. Pillay noted the if the KZN province is going to take mental health seriously, it needs to employ staff at greater numbers than it is currently doing. “There are still major hospitals in eThekwini that do not have a single psychologist, leaving patients in the lurch when it comes to access to psychotherapy or assessments. Managers must do more. An institution is incomplete without full-time mental healthcare service,” Pillay explained. Dr Sandile Kubheka, once the youngest doctor to qualify from UKZN, is now a registrar at Albert Luthuli Hospital. The doctor said that the walk was a stimulating and exciting morning, reminding him that ‘taking care of ourselves is crucially important. “We have to always make sure our mental health is in a good place,” he concluded.

New York Man Faces 25 Years In Prison For Bitcoin Money Laundering And Narcotics Scheme – Cryptonews https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/new-york-man-faces-25-years-in-prison-for-bitcoin-money-laundering-and-narcotics-scheme-cryptonews/ Source: Unsplash A New York man is facing 25 years in prison, after being convicted by a federal jury in Brooklyn of money laundering and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. The unlicensed business the man was accused of operating was part of a scheme to launder money earned in bitcoin (BTC) from illegal drug trafficking, a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York said. The convicted man was identified as 50-year-old Mustafa Goklu, also known as “Mustangy.” The verdict followed a four-day trial in New York, and Goklu now faces a prison sentence of 25 years. According to Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Goklu’s business offered customers the ability to launder proceeds from various criminal activities, while at the same time remaining anonymous and “conceal where their Bitcoin was coming from […].” “With today’s verdict, Goklu’s illicit business of converting money from one form to another without a required license has been shut down and the defendant has been convicted for his crimes,” Peace said. He went on to thank the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York Division for “outstanding investigative work on the case.” Goklu’s arrest came after undercover law enforcement agents first noticed an advertisement posted on the peer-to-peer bitcoin trading platform LocalBitcoins.com where a user named “Mustangy” offered to purchase up to $99,999 worth of BTC. The undercover agents then proceeded to contact “Mustangy,” whose real name was Mustafa Goklu, and later met with him in person to sell bitcoin for cash. Per the press release, the undercover agents reportedly indicated “on multiple occasions” that the source of the bitcoin they were selling was drug trafficking, but Goklu still completed the trade as agreed. In total, Goklu and the undercover agents met on seven occasions over a nine-month period, which ended with Goklu’s arrest in April 2019.

U.S. Democrats Want Tougher Response On Saudi Arabia The Washington Post
U.S. Democrats Want Tougher Response On Saudi Arabia The Washington Post
U.S. Democrats Want Tougher Response On Saudi Arabia – The Washington Post https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/u-s-democrats-want-tougher-response-on-saudi-arabia-the-washington-post/ You’re reading an excerpt from the Today’s WorldView newsletter. Sign up to get the rest free, including news from around the globe and interesting ideas and opinions to know, sent to your inbox every weekday. In Washington, or at least some corners of it, knives are being sharpened for Saudi Arabia. It’s been almost two weeks since Riyadh and its counterparts in the OPEC Plus cartel moved to raise global oil prices by announcing its largest supply cut in years, no matter the desperate entreaties of the Biden administration. The resulting fallout still smolders in Washington, where many interpreted the decision as a calculated act to humiliate President Biden and undermine his party’s prospects ahead of the upcoming midterm elections — on top of boosting the fossil fuel-subsidized war machine of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In recent days, Democratic lawmakers have touted a series of punitive measures against the kingdom. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced legislation last week that would immediately halt all arms sales to Saudi Arabia for one year. “There must be consequences for fleecing the American people in order to support Putin’s unconscionable war,” Khanna said in a statement. In the summer, Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), a former U.S. diplomat, backed Biden’s controversial July trip to Saudi Arabia as a bid to “ensure our client states that depend on our security are on our side.” But earlier this month, he and two other Democrats in the House introduced a bill to mandate the removal of U.S. troops and missile systems deployed in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which was also party to the cartel’s production cut. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, last week urged that U.S. missile systems and batteries committed to help defend the oil infrastructure of the Gulf kingdoms be transferred instead to protect Ukraine from Russian attacks. “Policy decisions have consequences, and these steps would right-size the relationship with Saudi Arabia and help Ukraine,” Murphy said in an emailed statement. Across the Democratic caucus, a lurking dissatisfaction with the United States’ long-standing entanglements with the Saudis exploded into full-bore rage. There remains disquiet over the outsize Saudi role in the attacks of 9/11, a long record of human rights abuses culminating garishly in the abduction and murder of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi, as well as wariness over Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s partisan affections for Republicans and former president Donald Trump. After Biden’s reticent fist bump with MBS, the OPEC Plus decision was seen as a deliberate punch in the gut that had to be met with a tough response. The anger has given new life to the so-called NOPEC bill, long-mooted congressional legislation that would make the cartel’s member states subject to antitrust laws. That some lawmakers now believe a bill that could cause further havoc to energy markets has a chance, albeit a slim one, of passing is a sign of the appetite for confrontation with Riyadh. “It’s time for our foreign policy to imagine a world without this alliance with these royal backstabbers,” Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) tweeted. In public remarks, Saudi officials have treated the American reaction with bemusement. “When you are in the election season, what some call ‘the funny season,’ a lot of things are said and a lot of things are done that may not make sense at another period of time,” Adel al-Jubeir, minister of state for foreign affairs, told CNN. “I hope this is what we’re dealing with here.” Jubeir cast the OPEC Plus decision as one made entirely on technical and economic grounds by oil producers minding their collective interests. There’s an obvious truth to that — and some analysts have stressed the need for U.S. officials to look beyond their domestic frames of reference. “The Saudis weren’t thinking about Ukraine — like many people in Asia and Africa, they don’t think in absolute terms of being pro- or anti-Russian — although that was certainly shortsighted,” wrote Hussein Ibish, senior resident scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. “And it’s frankly narcissistic for Democrats to imagine that the Saudis are adjusting their national grand strategy around the upcoming midterm vote.” On Sunday television, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Biden would address the anger in Congress, while also cautioning against calls for an abrupt change to U.S.-Saudi relations. “He is going to act methodically, strategically, and he’s going to take his time to consult with members of both parties, and also to have an opportunity for Congress to return so that he can sit with them in person and work through the options,” Sullivan said. Yet it’s clear there is little love lost between the crown prince and Biden, who once campaigned on making Riyadh a “pariah” and journeyed begrudgingly to the kingdom this summer largely because of the new economic and political realities created by the war in Ukraine. As my colleague Adam Taylor detailed last week, the Saudi-U.S. relationship has been built on an age-old bargain, defined by the American need for oil and Saudi Arabia’s desire to shelter beneath the security umbrella of the U.S. hegemon. That decades-long transaction is not bound by treaty, is backed by minimal public support and has not led to the confluence of many other serious interests, let alone political values. Aaron David Miller, a former U.S. diplomat and senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told me that what we are seeing now is “the fraying of this essential trade-off.” The United States no longer needs Saudi oil imports (though it remains vulnerable to Saudi influence over global energy prices), while MBS and his cohort have made clear that the kingdom in the long run is going to diversify its geopolitical portfolio, cultivating closer ties to countries elsewhere from China to Brazil. Over the weekend, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, on a visit to Riyadh, said that MBS had expressed interest in joining the BRICS nations, an economic bloc of major emerging economies including Russia. “The bottom line is that MBS doesn’t care,” said Miller, “and that he really does believe he has enormous leverage over the United States and is dealing with a president who is in his eyes an inconvenient speed bump.” After all, a Republican takeover of Congress, followed by a presidential election where Trump or a Trump ally may come to power, would set the table more favorably for the crown prince. Saudi Prince Saud al-Shaalan, close relative of MBS, said this following Democrats’ criticism of their oil price hike: “Anybody that challenges the existence of this country and this kingdom, all of us we are projects of jihad and martyrdom.” pic.twitter.com/3nXXnE6lZ4 — Ken Klippenstein (@kenklippenstein) October 16, 2022 For now, though, the Saudis have few cheerleaders in Washington. Democratic lawmakers want to call MBS on his bluff and strip away the U.S. patronage once unquestioningly bestowed upon Riyadh. The broader foreign policy community is also turning against the Saudis. “Much of the national security establishment, which had supported greater engagement with Riyadh, is affected deeply,” Emile Hokayem, a Middle East expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, told the Financial Times. “It’s now a cold transactional relationship at best.” Miller didn’t believe the “broken crockery” of the moment will lead to a “rupture” in the U.S.-Saudi relationship. But he said a clear-eyed reappraisal is necessary. “I’m hoping that what emerges out of this is a fundamental assessment that Saudi Arabia is not an ally,” he said, “and that, going forward, we should only give what we get.”

Smartphone Maker Foxconn Unveils EV For Taiwan Brand Yulon – The Associated Press – En Español https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/smartphone-maker-foxconn-unveils-ev-for-taiwan-brand-yulon-the-associated-press-en-espanol/ TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — The company that assembles smartphones for Apple Inc. and other global brands unveiled an electric SUV on Tuesday that will be produced for a Taiwanese automaker under a similar contract model. Foxconn Technology Group said the SUV will be sold by Yulon Motor as the Luxgen n7 starting next year. It said the five-seat vehicle should be able to travel 700 kilometers (440 miles) on one charge. No price was announced. Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., plans to produce electric cars and buses for brands in China, North America, Europe and other markets. It said clients can modify their appearance and features. The venture adds to a crowded global market with electrics offered by almost every established automaker and dozens of ambitious startups. “Hon Hai will certainly redefine the EV industry,” company founder Terry Gou said in a statement. Foxconn, headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan, is the world’s biggest contract assembler of smartphones and other consumer electronics. Yulon, founded in the 1940s, assembles vehicles for Nissan Motor Co. and other automakers. The company launched its own brand, Luxgen, in 2009. The Luxgen n7 is one of five proposed models for potential customers. On Tuesday, Foxconn also displayed a five-seat crossover, the Model B, and a five-seat double-cab pickup truck, the Model V. The company previously announced plans for a sedan developed with Italian design house Pininfarina and an electric bus, the Model T. ___ Foxconn: www.foxconn.com Yulon Motor: www.yulon-motor.com.tw

Could Rikers Prison Reformation Reimagine Bexar County Jail? The Lake Front
Could Rikers Prison Reformation Reimagine Bexar County Jail? The Lake Front
Could Riker’s Prison Reformation Reimagine Bexar County Jail? – The Lake Front https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/could-rikers-prison-reformation-reimagine-bexar-county-jail-the-lake-front/   Screenshot of Riker’s Island’s Prison Website October 2022.    SAN ANTONIO- Prisons and jails are said to deter inmates from committing crime on the outside of the grey, dreary walls of their either temporary or long-term home depending on their sentences. However, living conditions are sometimes seen as less than up to par. The famous Riker’s Island in New York, which held many famous celebrities and criminals in the past, is shutting down their facilities in order to activate a new reformative plan that could cost up to $30 million. The plan is set to create safer, smaller, and fairer jails.   However, Riker’s is one of the few prison complexes that have planned to invest in creating change and better conditions for roughly six to seven thousand inmates. The plan will include closing the complex and building four new borough-based jails. The hope is to rehabilitate versus severely punish. Not only will the look of the jails be softened with brighter colors, but the innovative programs that will be implemented will hopefully provide inmates with the help that they need.  David Tidwell, Vice President of Business Development of Cornerstone Detention Products recently travelled to New York where he could help provide the tools needed for Riker’s to move forward with their plan. When asked about the changes in the color of the jail walls that the plan describes, Tidwell explained, “they are trying to put the inmates in a real-life behavioral situation. They’re trying something new, and they believe these changes in aesthetics will help them rehabilitate themselves.”  According to the Riker’s Closing Plan, each facility will be the model for direct supervision housing equipped with a modern touch, natural lighting, and ample support services. The hope is to establish a more comfortable and humane environment with a dormitory like feel. Tidwell emphasizes, “what they want is a normative environment, they want it to be normal.”   While it can be argued that a more positive atmosphere can create a more positive environment and morale, some believe that this may not make much of a difference in the long run. Tidwell believes we should pay attention to the “root problem,” instead of the problems that take place inside of the jail. Meaning, the crimes committed start with the person and their upbringing, not the color of the walls or how comfortable prison beds are. California has already implemented a similar plan by adding helpful programs at their prisons and jails like Riker’s, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is halfway there.  Tidwell and Sheriff Javier Salazar at the 100 Club of San Antonio’s “Guns and Hoses” event in 2019.  Sheriff Javier Salazar of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department believes that we should try anything, and that these changes couldn’t hurt the inmates in New York, and maybe this idea is something to be considered. However, the Bexar County Jail and Texas detention centers face bigger problems. When offenders go to court, are convicted and the state does not pick them up to transport them to prison, they are left in the jail for too long. “it’s not necessarily overcrowding, but lack of movement in the court system.” Salazar also said that there are inmates who suffer from mental health issues and are solely placed in jail or prison because there is nowhere else to put them. This is most likely because there are not enough rehabilitation facilities in San Antonio and it’s surrounding areas that could cater to their specific needs. He says that there are about a good 700 to 800 inmates who are being held at the jail because they have mental health issues.   There are numerous programs and services in place at the BCSO jail that are made to help inmates better themselves and their skills so that they can lead a better life and one free of crime once they leave. Salazar says that there are GED programs as well as programs that are “designed to change behavior.” These include anger management and parenting classes, educational, chaplaincy, and social services. Inmates can work within the jail, and even take courses on job readiness and basic computer skills while also entering support groups that can help them understand and heal from their trauma or better navigate life through their mental health issues. Riker’s Island’s reformative plan is about installing programs like these, as well as changing the colors of the walls, providing comfortable beds and chairs in hopes that it will create a more influentially positive and encouraging impact.  The newly reimagined prison complex and helpful programs is estimated to become a reality in 2027, and maybe by that time, BCSO will be announcing a similar plan here for our inmates. Salazar relates what’s happening in Riker’s to the art program in place for inmates here in Bexar County, and believes that “the vast majority of our inmate population just needs a hand up, a job, a job skill, they need to learn some interview skills, and pick up a trade.”  Rehabilitation and second chances seem to be a running theme for a small majority of prisons and jails. Luckily, Bexar County is on a similar page, and maybe, even more programs like the concept in New York will be put in place in the future.  There is no ads to display, Please add some

Representatives from the National Labor Relations Board will be counting ballots from a union election at an Amazon warehouse near Albany, New York. Amazon says roughly 800 people are employed at the warehouse. Amazon Labor Union is leading the organizing effort. It has faced several roadblocks since its win on Staten Island this April. Amazon also hasn’t acknowledged the union. Experts note racking up more wins could offer the union more leverage to drag the company to the negotiating table. Stocks rally on Wall Street in latest volatile move Stocks closed sharply higher on Wall Street, marking the latest about-face for a market that has been unsteadily lurching between gains and losses in recent weeks. The S&P 500 jumped 2.6% Monday, more than recovering the ground it lost in a sell-off on Friday. The Dow added 1.9% and the Nasdaq climbed 3.4%. Bank of America rallied after reporting earnings that beat forecasts. U.K. government bonds rallied following news that the country’s new Treasury chief was abandoning nearly all of a series of unfunded tax cuts that had upset markets. Key witness in Holmes trial affirms testimony against her SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A key witness in a trial that led to the conviction of disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes adamantly stood by his testimony during an unusual court appearance Monday. The prosecution witness, former Theranos lab director Adam Rosendorff, made a remorseful appearance at Holmes’ Silicon Valley home after the trial, raising questions about potential misconduct. The hearing focused on Rosendorff, who according to Holmes’ partner William Evans had expressed regrets about his testimony during an Aug. 8 visit. But Rosendorff on Monday repeatedly affirmed that his testimony was truthful and Holmes’ conviction was justified. A judge’s ruling is expected by the end of the month. UK leader in peril after Treasury chief axes ‘Trussonomics’ LONDON (AP) — New U.K. Treasury chief Jeremy Hunt has reversed most of an economic package announced by the government just weeks ago, including a planned cut in income taxes. Hunt said Monday he was scrapping “almost all” the tax cuts announced last month by the Conservative government of Prime Minister Liz Truss, and also signaled that public spending cuts are on the way. It was a bid to soothe turbulent financial markets spooked by fears of excessive government borrowing. The move raises questions about how long the beleaguered prime minister can stay in office, though Truss insisted she has no plans to quit. She vowed to lead the Conservatives into the next general election, but many in the party want her gone. UK Treasury chief in position of power as PM Truss struggles LONDON (AP) — As British Prime Minister Liz Truss struggles to retain her authority, one man is seen to be in the real position of power to restore order and credibility to the Conservative government and limit the damage caused by Truss’ economic plans. Jeremy Hunt, Britain’s new Treasury chief, on Monday sought to calm jittery markets and angry Conservative lawmakers as he announced he was reversing the bulk of Truss’ tax-cutting economic stimulus package. Hunt, 55, on Friday became the U.K.’s fourth Treasury chief this year. It’s a return to power for a man who twice ran unsuccessfully to lead the Conservative Party. Hunt, a centrist, has served in top government posts before, including foreign secretary and health secretary. Scholz overrides allies, keeps 3 German nuke plants running BERLIN (AP) — Chancellor Olaf Scholz has ordered his ministers to prepare to keep all of Germany’s three remaining nuclear plants running until mid-April to fend off a possible energy crunch over the winter. Scholz’s office said the German leader announced the decision Monday in a letter to the Cabinet. The move overrides the views of two coalition partners who had been locked in a bitter debate over the issue. Economy Minister Robert Habeck of the environmentalist Greens had argued that only two should continue operating beyond the scheduled shutdown on Dec. 31. Finance Minister Christian Lindner of the pro-business Free Democrats had suggested all three nuclear plants could continue operating even beyond April. Germany is facing a possible energy crunch due to cuts in Russian supplies. Maryland judge strikes down nation’s first digital ad tax ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland judge has struck down the nation’s first tax on digital advertising as unconstitutional It’s a case attorneys for Big Tech have argued unfairly targets their clients. Judge Alison Asti of Anne Arundel County Circuit Court said the Maryland law violates the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition on state interference with interstate commerce. She also ruled that it violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act, which prohibits discrimination against electronic commerce. Raquel Coombs, a spokesperson for Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, whose office is defending the law, said the office is reviewing the decision to determine next steps. Kanye West to buy conservative social media platform Parler The rapper formerly known as Kanye West is offering to buy right-wing friendly social network Parler. The announcement comes shortly after West was blocked from posting on Twitter and Instagram for antisemitic posts. West, who is legally known as Ye, was locked out of Twitter and Instagram a week ago over antisemitic posts that the social networks said violated their policies. In one post on Twitter, Ye said he would soon go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” according to internet archive records, making an apparent reference to the U.S. defense readiness condition scale known as DEFCON. The potential purchase of Parler would give Ye control of a social media platform and a new outlet for his opinions with no gatekeeper. US businesses propose hiding trade data used to trace abuse A group of major U.S. businesses wants the government to hide key import data — a move trade experts say would make it more difficult for Americans to link the products they buy to labor abuse overseas. The proposal obtained by The Associated Press was made by an advisory panel comprised of executives from 20 companies, including Walmart, General Motors and Intel. If adopted, it would shroud in secrecy customs data on ocean-going freight responsible for about half of the $2.7 trillion in goods entering the U.S. every year.  Human rights activists say it flies in the face of government commitments to be more transparent on trade. Student loan forgiveness application website goes live WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has officially kicked off the application process for his student debt cancellation program. He announced Monday that 8 million borrowers had already applied for loan relief during the federal government’s soft launch period over the weekend. Biden is encouraging the tens of millions eligible for potential relief to visit studentaid.gov and touting the application form, which he says will take less than five minutes to complete. He says an early, “beta launch” version of the online form released late Friday handled the early stream of applications “without a glitch or any difficulty.” Copyright © 2022 . All rights reserved.
