Voters Can Do Civic Duty Early; Voting Has Begun – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/voters-can-do-civic-duty-early-voting-has-begun-warren-tribune-chronicle/ Early voting has begun. Get out and do your civic duty at the county boards of elections across the state. Indeed, the ability to vote should not be taken lightly. It is part of what makes our democracy so great. This general election will determine things like whether a Republican maintains control of the governor’s seat or a Democrat takes it. Of course, the race getting the most attention that will be decided this election is the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Tim Ryan and Republican J.D. Vance. The outcome could have a significant impact on which way the closely divided U.S. Senate swings next year. Statewide, we also will be deciding whether Republican Gov. Mike DeWine stays in office for another four years, or if we switch to a Democrat administration under Nan Whaley. Locally, voters will pick a Trumbull County and Mahoning County commissioner, representatives for Ohio’s Statehouse, the congressman who will represent our area in Washington for the next two years, along with so many other races and issues that could determine important factors such as how much taxes you will pay each year. Stephanie Penrose, director of the Trumbull County Board of Elections, expects turnout for the election to be about 55 percent. Tom McCabe, director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections, predicts turnout for this election to be about 54 percent in his county. Now is your chance to get ahead of the crowd and do your civic duty today. Early in-person voting is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday and Oct. 24 to 28. It is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29, a Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. Early voting on Nov. 5, the Saturday before the Nov. 8 primary, is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 6, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7. The Trumbull board is renting space at a vacant building at 2911 Youngstown Warren Road SE, Warren, for its early voting center. It is next door to the board offices. The Mahoning County Board of Elections is at 345 Oak Hill Ave., entrance A to Oakhill Renaissance Place in Youngstown. Get educated by reading about the candidates and issues in the this newspaper, and get out and vote, either now or Nov. 8. editorial@tribtoday.com Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

An Empty Metaverse? The Truth Behind DappRadars Report Of 30 Active Daily Users In Decentraland Jing Daily
An Empty Metaverse? The Truth Behind DappRadars Report Of 30 Active Daily Users In Decentraland Jing Daily
An Empty Metaverse? The Truth Behind DappRadar’s Report Of 30 Active Daily Users In Decentraland – Jing Daily https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/an-empty-metaverse-the-truth-behind-dappradars-report-of-30-active-daily-users-in-decentraland-jing-daily/ What Happened: As two of the metaverse’s major players, Decentraland and The Sandbox have become the go-to channels for luxury brands looking to build out their presence in Web3. But a viral report, published by decentralized finance (DeFi) analytic firm DappRadar, suggests that the online giants are apparently not as popular as once thought; according to the study, The Sandbox has only ever hit a maximum daily active user count of 4,503 and Decentraland has yet to exceed 675. Unsurprisingly, conversations surrounding the numbers blew up on crypto Twitter and had the public questioning the very future of Web3. News reports have also outlined that Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Horizon Worlds metaverse is also suffering from low user numbers, low retention rates and glitchy experiences.  But what does the news mean for luxury? Decentraland currently has collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Nike, and Sotheby’s, while The Sandbox has previously partnered with the likes of Balenciaga, Gucci, and L’Officiel. As crossovers like these continue to develop in the space, and as both platforms see a valuation at around $1.2-1.3 billion, the assumption would be that a much more active community would — and should — be present.  In February 2022, Gucci announced its partnership with The Sandbox to create an interactive virtual fashion experience. Photo: Gucci DappRadar goes on to state that as of October 10, Decentraland had just 30 active users in a 24 hours span. These shockingly low metrics, however, don’t disclose the full story, and DappRadar has begun rolling back on it’s calculations, to “recalculate”.    The Jing Take: The recent revelation might just deal another blow to an already wobbly Web3 industry, as luxury houses looking to buy or rent metaverse land for activations may opt to think again. Decentraland has since rebuffed the numbers, turning to Twitter to declare that, “Lately, there has been a lot of misinformation on the number of active users of Decentraland. Some websites are tracking only specific smart contract transactions but reporting them as daily active users DAU, which is inaccurate.” The company then goes on to post its September data, which equates to 56,697 monthly active users and 1,074 users interacting with smart contracts, alongside 6,315 wearables sold, 161 community events, and 148 DAO proposals.  DappRadar has also since clarified that its metrics come from the number of Unique Active Wallets, the number of transactions, and the volume of those transactions across different decentralized applications (DApps) — all of which are blockchain interactions that ignore off-chain activities, such as users simply utilizing the channel to explore the space. This confusion comes from defining “active participants” only as those making blockchain transactions on the platform, not considering more passive community members on the site as active users.  Decentraland and The Sandbox are often the starting points for many brands wanting to establish a digital foundation, meaning that education from both players is key. Luxury groups need to be open to learning and evolving alongside Web3-native communities. But cultivating a symbiotic relationship that has mass appeal is challenging, especially when the technology needed to move forward is evolving slower than the ideas.  As Daniel Langer, founder of luxury brand strategy firm Équité, reiterated during the Jing Daily X Équité Creating Luxury in the Metaverse webinar, “Crypto is the fastest adopted technology in history,” suggesting that these fashion labels need to be looking at Web3 through a patient and malleable lens. Those choosing to rush in without considering the importance of collaborative communities are not only at risk of a culture shock but also a financial loss, particularly brands that assume that their IP alone is enough to garner attention and sales.  As of today, the true value of Web3 doesn’t derive from the quick turnover of NFT collections — making headlines with some extortionate prices — but the ability to form direct connections with new audiences. With this in mind, platforms like The Sandbox and Decentraland should instead be perceived as workshops for creative brand expression rather than an end result. For metaverses built off the blockchain, numbers are far more assuring. Gaming platform Roblox, for example, reported having 52 million daily active users for Q2 this year, and 11.3 million monthly unique payers. The early adopters across the luxury industry, who are positioning themselves in these respective worlds, are designing the visual language of the digital future in Web3. CitiBank predicts that the digital industry will be worth $13 trillion by 2030, but this number can only be achieved if companies understand that the success behind Web3 boils down to its interoperability. As groups like Decentraland and The Sandbox continue to ride out the turbulence, it’s undeniable that they are, at the same time, slowly but surely setting the precedent for a collaborative virtual future ahead.  The Jing Take reports on a piece of the leading news and presents our editorial team’s analysis of the key implications for the luxury industry. In the recurring column, we analyze everything from product drops and mergers to heated debate sprouting on Chinese social media.

Lenovo Legion 5i Pro Review: ‘i’ Stands For Impressive – Gadgets Now https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/lenovo-legion-5i-pro-review-i-stands-for-impressive-gadgets-now/ Powering this model of the Legion 5i Pro is Intel’s Core i9-12900H processor, which comes paired with RTX 3070Ti GPU from Nvidia for handling graphic-intensive tasks. Complementing the brain and brawn is 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a terabyte of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSD. It is possibly the best hardware you can get for its price, and we also have some numbers to solidify this further. In Cinebench R23, the Legion 5i Pro scores 1,928 and 15,767 in single and multi-core tests, perfect numbers for this hardware. In PCMark 10, the laptop got 7,950 points on productivity and 2,310 on storage tests. We also ran 3DMark, and we got a score of 11,686. Do note that we ran these tests in the performance mode. No points for guessing; the Legion 5i Pro did not break a sweat in day-to-day tasks. For context, we used to have around 20 tabs opened in Chrome, having YouTube, Google Docs, Twitter, and a few more apps running in the background. The Legion manages to deliver in the range of 80 to 90 fps while playing intense titles as the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers at high graphics settings. (Yes, we have a soft spot for Marvel games). In contrast, the less demanding titles, such as Apex Legends or Valorant, ran in the range of 150-180 fps. So, to conclude, the laptop is very much capable of running whatever game you want. Though, remember to turn on the performance mode and do not forget to plug it into the wall socket. Lenovo has a new cooling mechanism — CoolFront 4.0 — which promises to keep the temperatures down and works as said. We did not see the temperature going over 85 degrees, and the chassis remained cool even during the extended period of gameplay. Though, the sound of fans blaring can be irritating whenever the laptop gets a little hot. Lenovo’s Vantage app gives deep insight into the machine. You can get the current status of the CPU and GPU and even overclock them. Not just that, you can play a lot more with the hardware using the Vantage. Battery life has never been a strong suit of Windows laptops, and it has been the one major weakness of almost every gaming laptop out there. With 4 hours of life, the Legion 5i Pro is not different. And the 300W charger is so bulky that it gets hard to carry it everywhere with you, so it is a “portable work laptop.”

Walmart CTO Says Crypto Will Become A ‘major’ Payments Disruptor – Cointelegraph https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/walmart-cto-says-crypto-will-become-a-major-payments-disruptor-cointelegraph/ Suresh Kumar suggested that crypto will become an important payment tool across the Metaverse and social media, as these areas will be a major way customers discover new products. 1309 Total views 9 Total shares Walmart’s global chief technology officer (CTO) Suresh Kumar has tipped cryptocurrency to become a “major” area of disruption, particularly in how customers pay for virtual and physical goods in the future.  Speaking at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit on Oct. 17, Kumar outlined Walmart’s positive stance on digital assets, noting that “crypto will become an important part of how customers transact” for both physical and virtual goods. “I think that there are three major areas of disruption. Crypto falls in sort of the middle of it,” he said, explaining that “the way in which customers are getting inspired and discovering products” is changing. Kumar also suggested that a significant amount of customers will be marketed to through the Metaverse and live streams on social media apps, and that crypto could be an important payment option in these kinds of areas. “When you specifically talk about crypto, it is going to be about discovery of products, whether it is physical or virtual inside, either the Metaverse or upfront, and then how people transact.” Such may explain Walmart’s recent foray into the Roblox Metaverse, launching Walmart Land in late September. The company is hosting a range of virtual experiences there such as games, a DJ booth and Ferris wheel, while also offering virtual merchandise products called “verch” for users’ avatars. NFTs and crypto are not integrated with the Roblox metaverse at this stage, however Walmart has previously indicated in patent filings from January that it could look to create digital currencies, tokens and NFTs in the Metaverse space sometime in the future. “We want to make sure that we make it as friction free for customers to be able to transact, and to be able to buy, and how they are able to derive value out of it. And that is where– I think a lot of the disruption is going to start happening in terms of different payment methods, different payment options,” he said. Related: Facebook is on a quest to destroy the Metaverse and Web3 The multinational retail giant has been rumored to have been working on rolling out crypto payment support for a while, but so far only false alarms have arisen such as the fake deal with Litecoin (LTC) that was announced via a dubious press release from September last year. As it stands, there were around 200 Bitcoin (BTC) ATMs installed at Walmart stores across the U.S. in October 2021, with plans at the time to expand that number to 8,000 at an unspecified time in the future.

Ye Says He Bought Parler Because Instagram, Twitter Penalized Him – The Indian Express https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/ye-says-he-bought-parler-because-instagram-twitter-penalized-him-the-indian-express/ Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, said he was motivated to acquire the conservative social media service Parler by his belief that existing platforms like Instagram and Twitter are too restrictive when it comes to user speech. “When I got kicked off of Instagram and Twitter at the time, I knew it was time to acquire my own platform,” Ye said in an interview with Bloomberg News on Monday. “People had talked about it and mentioned this idea for years, but enough was enough.” The rapper and designer was recently restricted from posting on some major social media platforms for violating their content policies. Twitter Inc. removed an anti-Semitic post from Ye last week and locked his account just a day after he had returned to the platform for the first time in nearly two years. Meta Platforms Inc.’s Instagram also deleted posts over anti-Semitic language. Ye said Parler is for people like him, who have been penalized by much bigger platforms. “We’re using this as a net for the people who have been bullied by the thought police to come and speak their mind,” he said. “Express how you feel. Express what’s tied up inside of you. Express what’s been haunting you. I use social media as my therapist.” Billionaire Elon Musk, who has an agreement to buy Twitter for $44 billion, says he spoke with Ye last week after Twitter froze his account. Ye said Musk didn’t advise him on buying Parler in that conversation, and he came to the decision on his own. Ye said he is planning to have dinner with former US President Donald Trump this week, and will invite him onto Parler. Ye said he’ll join Trump’s own alternative network, Truth Social, too. He has not yet decided if owning Parler means he will fully abandon other social networks, like Instagram and Twitter, saying he plans to speak with his advisors about that. “The most important resource that our species has is knowledge,” Ye added. “This is the reason why the compression of thought and free thought has to be overcome to save the human race. It’s literally that serious. And that’s the reason why I am willing to put everything at risk because they’ve already taken enough from me for differences of opinion.” Ye has been at odds with corporate America, scorning his business partners in order to branch out on his own. His apparel deal with Gap Inc. is winding down after disagreements between the two parties and his sneaker arrangement with Adidas AG has been placed under review by the German athletic-wear maker. He also had a dust-up with bank executives at JPMorgan Chase & Co. Ye declined to share the terms of the agreement. An unaudited balance sheet of his finances reviewed by Bloomberg last year showed that he had $122 million in cash and stock at the time, with billions more in other assets including his lucrative Yeezy business. His company made nearly $191 million in royalties from the Adidas deal in 2020, Bloomberg previously reported.

One-On-One With Avalon Waterways President Pam Hoffee – TravelPulse https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/one-on-one-with-avalon-waterways-president-pam-hoffee-travelpulse/ In an interview with AGENTatHOME, Avalon Waterways President Pam Hoffee discusses a new ship debut, the line’s ongoing commitment to travel advisors and what distinguishes it from the competition. What are Avalon’s Plans to Expand its Fleet? In September, Avalon Waterways announced that it will make its debut on Portugal’s Douro River with a new itinerary and Suite Ship – the Avalon Alegria – in 2024. We’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to add Portugal to our robust vacation portfolio and that day has finally arrived. With the debut of Avalon View in April 2022, our total fleet in Europe has grown to 14 Suite Ships with two additional Suite Ships on the Mekong in Southeast Asia. We also provide our guests the opportunity to cruise the Nile, Ganges, Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. How has Business Fared this Year and What’s Your Outlook for 2023? As cruisers look for a big-ship alternative, river cruising is continuing to garner more interest and more bookings. Sales have been solid for 2022. We’re at 90 percent of the bookings we had in 2019 from the U.S. market and growing. In fact, in August we saw more bookings for 2022 than we received for August 2019. Early bookings for 2023 have us back at pre-pandemic sales with more opportunities for growth. What are the Key Selling Points for Avalon Waterways in Terms of its Ships, Itineraries and Excursions? Offering travelers “Classic,” “Discovery” and “Active” options on every river cruise itinerary, Avalon Choice presents guests with a variety of excursions and onboard activities each day – all engaging in their own way. We’ve put together as many as 28 included excursion choices on our Active and Discovery itineraries, placing the compass firmly in the hands of our guests to choose any direction – and any experience – they desire. Avalon’s ships feature two full decks of 200-square-foot Panorama Suites, each featuring an 11-foot-wide wall of floor-toceiling windows that open seven feet wide, the widest-opening windows in cruising. This wall of glass converts the room into an Open-Air Balcony. How Important are Travel Advisors to Your Business? Travel advisors are at the heart of what we do and every decision that we make. The majority of our bookings come from travel advisors, so we’re committed in every way to supporting them. One recent example of that commitment happened during COVID when we changed our policy to pay commission at the time of payment rather than the time of travel. It was our way to help advisors get much-needed funds flowing back into business. We have no non-commissionable fares, and pay full cruise commission on land extensions, which no other line does. Our team of business development managers are deployed around the country and ready to work with advisors to grow their business. What Advice Would you Give Agents on How to Sell Avalon Waterways? Become an Avalon Waterways Specialist and let your clients and potential clients know that you are a specialist in river cruising. We’re a platinum partner to ASTA and we will, once again, take part in the River Cruise Expo in Budapest in March 2023. Go and learn about all the river lines and see what makes each company unique. You will benefit from seeing our ships side-by-side. Qualify for and travel on one of our Suite Rewards fam cruises. Once you’ve booked your trip, build a group around your planned sailing. That way, you’re guaranteed to be there with your clients, regardless of how many you book. If you do earn enough to quality for a tour conductor [TC] credit, you get to keep the TC as extra commission.

$275M Verdict For Toxic Exposures At Washington School – Kentucky Today https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/275m-verdict-for-toxic-exposures-at-washington-school-kentucky-today/ MONROE, Wash. (AP) — A jury in King County has awarded $275 million to ten students and parents who say they suffered serious neurological injuries from chemical exposure at a school northeast of Seattle. The lawsuit against Bayer Pharmaceuticals is the fourth to result in a multimillion-dollar verdict, The Seattle Times reported. The company owns chemical giant Monsanto, the manufacturer of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs. The first three lawsuits resulted in jury verdicts of $268 million distributed to 14 plaintiffs. One lawsuit is ongoing and 16 more await trial. More than 200 students, parents and teachers from the Sky Valley Education Center, an alternative school in Snohomish County, have sued Monsanto over environmental contamination. They say Monroe School District knew PCBs were found on the campus, but, despite cleanup efforts, toxins were still being found into 2019. Exposure to the PCBs led to health effects including neurological problems, skin lesions, cancer, hormonal diseases and other illnesses, plaintiffs said. PCBs were banned by the EPA in 1979 but still remain in some structures including in lighting ballasts at Sky Valley before they were replaced. Bayer Pharmaceuticals said in a statement that it disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal, as it has with prior verdicts. Bayer also claims failures on the part of the Monroe School District. In early 2022, the school district agreed to pay $34 million in a settlement with parents and students exposed to PCBs. The district did not accept responsibility for hazardous conditions on campus and said it acted appropriately to remove toxicants and inform parents. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. Six Steps To Create An Effective Community Health Program UrbanMatter
Six Steps To Create An Effective Community Health Program UrbanMatter
Six Steps To Create An Effective Community Health Program – UrbanMatter https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/six-steps-to-create-an-effective-community-health-program-urbanmatter/ In recent years, the number of people suffering from chronic diseases has increased alarmingly. This has led to a growing need for community health programs promoting healthy living and preventing chronic diseases. The global burden of chronic disease is now estimated at 38% of all deaths. More than three-quarters of these occur in low- and middle-income countries. A community health program is an organized effort by a government, non-governmental organization, or group of citizens to improve the health of a defined group of people. An effective community health program strives to address the health needs of its target population through a comprehensive and coordinated approach. It should be based on thorough needs assessment and be informed by the latest evidence on effective interventions. Here are six steps to creating an effective community health program: Conduct a needs assessment The first step in creating an effective community health program is to conduct a needs assessment to identify the health needs of the target population. It can happen through various methods, including surveys, focus groups, and interviews with key informants. The needs assessment should consider health’s social, economic, and environmental determinants. Also, consider the availability of resources, including human and financial resources. In addition, be sure to consult with relevant stakeholders, such as community leaders, healthcare providers, and local officials. Professionals with experience in conducting needs assessments can provide valuable guidance.  Aspiring candidates can enroll in online public health degree programs to learn more about conducting needs assessments. For instance, the DrPH online provides students with the skills and knowledge to assess population health needs effectively.  Set realistic goals and objectives Based on the needs assessment, the next step is to set realistic goals and objectives for the program. The goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. They should also be aligned with the resources available and the capacities of the implementing organization. As you may know, setting unrealistic goals can lead to disappointment and can undermine the program’s credibility. Indeed, it is important to set ambitious yet achievable goals to rally people around the program and generate support for it. However, if the goals are too ambitious, they may not be realistic and could jeopardize the program’s success. Moreover, the goals and objectives should be reviewed and updated regularly to remain relevant. Develop an evidence-based intervention The third step is to develop an evidence-based intervention. To do this, you will need to identify the risk factors for the health problems you are trying to address. Then, select the interventions that are effective in addressing these risk factors. Be sure to consider the target population‘s local context and preferences. In addition, make sure that the interventions are feasible and affordable. And finally, ensure that there is adequate capacity to implement the interventions. However, it is essential to note that evidence-based interventions alone are insufficient. The intervention must also be tailored to the needs of the target population. Another reason an evidence-based approach is necessary is that it helps secure funding for the program. Indeed, donors are more likely to support a program with a sound evidence base. Create a program plan The fourth step is to create a program plan that outlines how the program will be implemented. The program plan should include a detailed description of the activities, timelines, resources, and personnel involved. It should also specify the roles and responsibilities of each individual and organization involved in the program. The program plan should be flexible to allow for adjustments based on the evolving needs of the target population. In addition, the program plan should be reviewed and updated regularly. Also, consult with relevant stakeholders when developing the program plan. However, remember that the program plan is not set in stone and should be adapted as needed. Therefore, be sure to build in flexibility and allow for adjustments. Indeed, the program plan should be viewed as a living document updated as the program evolves. Most importantly, the program plan should be designed to meet the specific needs of the target population. Hence, it is crucial to involve the target population in the planning process. Implement the program The fifth step is to implement the program. You will need to mobilize the necessary resources and personnel to do this. Make sure that everyone involved understands their roles and responsibilities. Also, monitor the program’s progress and assess its impact. Be sure to document the lessons learned during implementation. These lessons can be used to improve the program in the future. In addition, consult with relevant stakeholders during implementation to get their feedback. And finally, make sure to adjust the program as needed. The most important thing is to be flexible and adapt the program based on the needs of the target population. Evaluate the program The final step is to evaluate the program. Evaluation is vital to determine the program’s effectiveness and to improve its future design. There are different types of evaluation, such as impact evaluation, process evaluation, and output evaluation. Be sure to consult with relevant stakeholders and consider the resources and time available when planning the evaluation. And finally, use the results to improve the program. Once you have completed these six steps, you will have created an effective community health program. However, it is essential to note that this is an iterative process. Redhill Beefs Up Metaverse Offering With Pixel Canvas Tie-Up – Marketing Interactive https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/redhill-beefs-up-metaverse-offering-with-pixel-canvas-tie-up-marketing-interactive/ Redhill is expanding into the metaverse scene by collaborating with US-based enterprise metaverse platform Pixel Canvas for interactive and immersive brand experiences. The agency will leverage Pixel Canvas’s platform and technologies in brand campaigns and communications strategies, adding a new dimension to omnichannel storytelling for clients. Redhill hopes to transform customer experience and deliver real business outcomes through the partnership. Jacob Puthenparambil, founder and CEO of Redhill, said its metaverse offering is designed to help its clients understand and capitalise on this next massive wave of disrupting businesses and industries and arm them with the strategies and technologies they need to fully capitalise on these new virtual worlds. Through using programming, connected animation, and gamification, Redhill will enable its clients to create immersive brand experiences by organising experiential conferences, events, client presentations, and product launches to drive enhanced user engagement. Formerly a VR game company, Pixel Canvas began designing and delivering 3D virtual event prototypes to Fortune 500 companies such as Verizon and WarnerMedia. As interest in the metaverse rose and demand grew for immersive and visually appealing virtual experiences, Pixel Canvas pivoted to developing a full platform capable of delivering enterprise-grade metaverse experiences that were highly customisable, scalable, interactive, and accessible. One of Pixel Canvas’ projects to date is “Unlockverse” 3, a virtual mall experience built for Unlock Venture Partners. Users could visit each of the venture capital firm’s portfolio companies in their own virtual space and view product images and company information, as well as watch real-time discussions and, have live chats with staff. Pixel Canvas’s platform is powered by Unreal Engine 5 – touted as an advanced real-time 3D creation tool for photorealistic visuals and immersive experiences – resulting in lifelike experiences that invite better immersion and engagement than existing metaverses. To date, Pixel Canvas’s library contains over 25 templated environments, 30 minigames and five escape rooms that can all be fully reskinned to meet a brand’s needs, complemented by a full set of networking features such as video and text chat, live streaming and more. Additionally, these experiences are cloud-rendered for scalability and browser-based to be accessible by any connected device. “Through our partnership with Redhill, our companies will be able to deliver immersive experiences to transform how brands connect, collaborate, and communicate in a fully realised metaverse,” Joey Lee, founder and CEO of Pixel Canvas, said. The company also looks forward to working with Redhill to explore creative opportunities in the fast-growing Asia Pacific region. This latest news builds on the other offerings that Redhill has launched in the past year. Most recently, Redhill acquired Singapore-based Vision Strategy Storytelling as part of the agency’s efforts to further strengthen its sustainability offerings, providing creative visual storytelling solutions centred around social impact and sustainability for the agency and its clients. Earlier this year, the agency established a new creative technology and design unit – Redhill Studio – that offers creative design, video and podcast production, and website and web application development. This is in addition to Redhill providing the entire suite of end-to-end integrated communications solutions, including strategic counsel for public relations, digital narratives, crisis management, marketing, internal communications, and branding across industries and sectors. More recently, Redhill officially launched its global headquarters in Singapore, with the new 5,000 square feet office being able to accommodate up to 150 employees. The agency was founded in 2014. Some gadgets break things, exploiting cracks in our digital systems, prying them open, and crawling inside. Most often used by penetration testers — a kind of white-hat hacker hired to test a company’s security by breaking in themselves — these gadgets serve as a kind of road map to the most common vulnerabilities in our digital world. For the most part, they’re commercialized versions of tech that already existed in a scrappier form, leaning on open-source software projects and decades of work developing attacks. But most importantly, they’re available, so if you decide you want to try out one of these attacks, the equipment is only a click away. Please use them only for good.

Crypto Won’t See Bull-Run Anytime Soon, This Expert Explains Why – NewsBTC https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/crypto-wont-see-bull-run-anytime-soon-this-expert-explains-why-newsbtc/ The crypto market is stuck in a tight range as larger cryptocurrencies are unable to break above key levels of resistance. The sector has been mostly inclined to the downside since September when Ethereum completed “The Merge”. At the time of writing, Bitcoin (BTC) trades at $19,500 with a 2% profit in the last 24 hours while Ethereum records a 3% profit over the same period. Other cryptocurrencies follow a similar trajectory during today’s trading session with XRP and Cardano amongst the worst-performing assets in the sector. BTC’s price moving sideways on the daily chart. Source: BTCUSDT Tradingview Crypto And Global Markets Close To A Bottom, But Far From A Bull The successful completion of “The Merge” left the crypto market without a narrative of its own. Thus, the nascent asset class has been moving in tandem with traditional equities and major indexes. Macroeconomic forces have been dominating the price action in risk-on assets, most of crypto and equities, as the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) rushes to slow down inflation. The financial institution has been hiking interest rates unleashing a bear market that has rippled across the financial world. In this situation, every market participant wants to know when crypto will finally bottom out. In order for this to happen, equities must find a bottom first, and according to Jurrien Timmer, Director of Macro for Fidelity, this might be close to happening. Via his official Twitter handle, Timmer compared the current situation with the 1940 to 1947 inflationary periods in the United States. The North American country was going through a period of high inflation after World War II. Timmer referred to this situation as a fiscal/monetary cocktail, the country was recovering from a major conflict with most of the world in ruins, still hurting from the massive expending and low resources. At that time, the S&P 500 saw a 30% decline. Right now, this index is approaching those lows as it follows a similar trajectory. As seen in the chart below, the S&P 500 proceeded to move sideways for multiple years as inflation peaked at 19.6%. In comparison, today’s inflation stood at 8.9% at its highest month-to-month metric. Timmer said: The 1946-49 bear market had a nominal decline of 30% and a real decline of 46% (amid 20% inflation). It was entirely a driven by valuations. The analog suggests we are near the bottom, but a long way from the next bull. Source: Jurrien Timmer via Twitter Other experts expect a similar scenario for Bitcoin and the crypto market. This might be positive news for long-term holders looking to accumulate at current levels, but not for those betting on a new bull run in 2022 or even 2023.

Casey DeSantis Is ‘shaking The Trees’ For Donations To Hurricane Ian Fund – Florida Politics https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/casey-desantis-is-shaking-the-trees-for-donations-to-hurricane-ian-fund-florida-politics/ First Lady Casey DeSantis is highlighting the generosity of Floridians in the wake of Hurricane Ian, while saying more must be done still. DeSantis visited a Harley Davidson dealership in Jacksonville where she spotlighted the Florida Disaster Fund, a vital resource for those who suffered loss during Hurricane Ian. Despite the $45 million raised from 62,000 donors, a “record” amount, DeSantis said “the work has only begun.” She promised to return to Northeast Florida “as much as possible, shaking the trees” for more donations. “We’re not going to lay off the gas,” DeSantis said, noting the fund is “raising as much money as humanly possible.” And the fundraising beat goes on even at rock and roll concerts, she noted during Monday’s event. The Van Zant brothers, whose anthemic Sweet Florida is the official song of the re-election campaign, donated $100,000 at a Hollywood gig last night. The Seminole Tribe also donated $100,000. This money and much more is necessary, DeSantis said, to help people get “pathways to rebuild” after the “500-year flood” Hurricane Ian brought to much of the peninsula. Donors big and small attested to the work being done and their commitment to the cause. Florida Blue North Florida Market President Darnell Smith spoke of his company’s $1 million contribution as just part of the help the health care giant is offering storm victims. “At CSX we care deeply about the communities that welcome us each day, but none more than those here in the state of Florida,” said CSX’s Brian Tucker, extolling the rail giant’s commitment. The Harley dealership that hosted DeSantis Monday also is in the charitable spirit: 100% of proceeds from its “Florida Rides Together” T-shirts will go to the fund. Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo explained how her agency works with nonprofits “on the ground” to help with recovery efforts, where the “long-term effects” of the storm are felt. “We in Florida are all in this together,” Tamayo said. “When (Federal Emergency Management Agency) dollars run short, the fund can supplement,” added DeSantis, underscoring a reality that for many people who won’t be made whole by federal help or private insurance, the Florida Disaster Fund is a lifeline of importance. Oregon Coast – Oregon Coast Beach Connection https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/the-lil-cannon-beach-cottage-that-could-whimsical-yet-historic-rental-on-n-oregon-coast-oregon-coast-beach-connection/ The Lil’ Cannon Beach Cottage That Could: Whimsical Yet Historic Rental on N. Oregon Coast Published 10/17/22 at 5:54 PM By Oregon Coast Beach Connection staff (Cannon Beach, Oregon) – Have you ever dreamed of a white picket fence and a historic home-away-from-home on the Oregon coast? Say, in some much-revered coastal burgh as Cannon Beach? Are you hankerin’ for a bit of history? Does a heaping helping of times-gone-by along with sleek, modern conveniences in a quiet spot where you can the waves sound appealing? What about a robustly-shaded yellow door? OK, that’s random. But it works in this scenario, because just this vibe exists in the north Oregon coast town with a little place called Lil Bird Cottage. It’s a diminutive vacation rental that’s big on captivating, and just close enough to the beach to hear the lull of the ocean. Offered up by Beachcomber Vacation Homes in the lovely little town, the wee charming elder statesman on the street sleeps four and gleefully allows your furry friend to join in (for a fee). Cannon Beach (photo copyright Oregon Coast Beach Connection) Historic homes in Cannon Beach are a special breed, enough to create a tour of them each fall. They range from stately and almost sprawling to smaller sweet talkers like this one, whispering intriguing tales of the town’s early days when it was called Ecola (but rather embarrassingly had to change because townfolk’s mail bundles kept going to a little town named Eola near Salem). Or maybe back when it had a natatorim (a heated salt water bath) – or maybe even the chilling tales of Cannon Beach’s Bandage Man spook. Lil Bird Cottage is in rich in time travel vibes at first glance, even slightly whimsical, with the vine-covered white gate. That’s only a brief taste, however, as one of the cottage’s chief attractions is one heckuva of a lush garden. Spring almost springs eternal here, with major blooms when in-season and plenty of greens hanging out the rest of the year. That characteristic and eye-catching weathered wood that typifies this north Oregon coast town stands out quickly – and then there’s the wild yellow, ebullient door. Spry, bold and definitely a head-turner, it’s a nifty addition and playful contrast to the wood. Spoiler alert: there’s another on the opposite side of the building. There, the backyard is a generous chunk of manicured lawn, a feature which your furbaby will love. Zoomies are even better on the Oregon coast, dogs say (or at least they would, if they could). Lil Bird Cottage sits on a quiet spot on the cusp of midtown and on the edges of downtown, making it close walking distance to the excellent grub found in both areas, as well as Cannon Beach’s bursting-at-the-seams art scene. That puts the cottage not too far from famed Haystack Rock, and only a bit of a distance to the slightly less-trodden sands of the northern edges of town. Inside, the cottage boasts details with a definite old-timey slant but in sleek, modern paint, giving it subtle yet unmistakable historic vibes. You wonder what these walls saw. Sons returning home from World War II? The end of Prohibition? Families around the dinner table arguing over Flower Power in the ’60s? There’s plenty of wi-fi, so you’re firmly grounded in all the modern necessities, like binging the new Interview With A Vampire series or Law & Order in between jaunts to the waves. A gas fireplace graces the living room, and the two bedrooms are packed with plenty of upbeat colors and snazzy stylings. There’s one bathroom with a shower and another with a claw-foot bathtub. Outdoors, a barbecue on the back deck caps off that richly-green lawn. All of these goodies are found through Beachcomber Vacation Homes, 503-436-4500.

The winner will take on the Houston Astros in the ALCS. The loser goes home. Here’s how you can watch Game 5. Due to rain in New York, however, the start of Game 5 has been delayed. A rescheduled time for first pitch has not yet been announced, and it’s possible the game is postponed until Tuesday. MLB makes all weather-related decisions in the postseason and the league has been meeting every hour or so since 6 p.m. ET. First pitch was originally scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET.  “I think everybody was on the same page when we spoke,” Guardians manager Terry Francona said about MLB’s afternoon calls with the two teams. “As long as we can play the game and not have it look like it’s going to get interrupted and have that force a little bit of an outcome, (we’d) like to play.” Game 2 of the ALDS was postponed due to rain, forcing the Yankees and Guardians to play Games 2-5 on four consecutive days. From CBS News New York: There is rain in the forecast for ALDS Game 5. CBS News New York In the event Game 5 is postponed, it would be played Tuesday, during what is currently a scheduled off-day between the ALDS and ALCS. That could very well be an afternoon game since the winner has to travel to Houston for Game 1 of the ALCS on Wednesday. The Yankees will start righty Jameson Taillon (14-5, 3.91 ERA) in Game 5. The Guardians will counter with righty Aaron Civale (5-6, 4.92 ERA). Both starters are expected to be on a short leash. Here’s how each team’s bullpen is set up for Game 5.

U.S. FAA Says Some Boeing 737 MAX 7 Submissions Incomplete, Need Review – Reuters https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/u-s-faa-says-some-boeing-737-max-7-submissions-incomplete-need-review-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Oct 17 (Reuters) – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told Boeing Co (BA.N) that some key documents submitted as part of the agency’s ongoing certification review of the 737 MAX 7 are incomplete and others need a reassessment by the U.S. planemaker. In an Oct. 12 letter to Boeing from FAA official Ian Won seen by Reuters, the agency asked Boeing to reassess some assertions that hazards classified as catastrophic “do not contain human factors assumptions.” The FAA also said it was unable to complete some reviews of Boeing submissions “due to missing and incomplete information regarding human factors assumptions in catastrophic hazard conditions.” The new letter intensifies concerns about the company’s timeline for beginning deliveries of the smaller variant of the best-selling MAX. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Boeing faces a late December deadline for the FAA to certify the MAX 7 and MAX 10 or it must meet new modern cockpit alerting standards that could significantly delay the airplanes unless the company receives a waiver from Congress. The requirements were approved by Congress in late 2020 as part of FAA certification reforms after two fatal 737 MAX crashes killed 346 people and led to the bestselling plane’s 20-month grounding. Reuters first reported on Oct. 3 Boeing does not anticipate winning approval for the MAX 10 before next summer, citing an FAA sent to Congress. Boeing said in a statement Monday it “is focused on meeting all regulatory requirements to certify the 737-7 and safety remains the driving factor in this effort.” Certifications of planes require extensive paperwork submissions and detailed review of safety assessments by the FAA. In a Sept. 19 letter to Boeing, the FAA expressed concerns that the planemaker would not be able to win certification for the MAX 7 this year. Boeing must get approval for the MAX 7 first as the MAX 10 approval is contingent on some MAX 7 documentation, Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun said last month. The planemaker added it will “continue to prioritize being thorough and transparent in our documentation and interactions with the FAA.” Human factors analyses refer to how pilots respond to cockpit emergencies. The FAA letter said Boeing must as part of its review assure the agency “that those safety assessments do not contain human factors assumptions” and if there are others it must identify them and submit them for review. A December 2020 Senate report into the MAX concluded the FAA and Boeing “had established a pre-determined outcome to reaffirm a long-held human factor assumption related to pilot reaction time … It appears, in this instance, FAA and Boeing were attempting to cover up important information that may have contributed to the 737 MAX tragedies.” The Wall Street Journal reported the letter earlier. The Student Loan Forgiveness Application Is Official. 6 Things To Know. – The Washington Post https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/the-student-loan-forgiveness-application-is-official-6-things-to-know-the-washington-post/ After weeks of waiting, student loan borrowers can now apply for President Biden’s program to receive up to $20,000 in debt cancellation. Biden officially launched the application Monday after the Education Department opened the form over the weekend as part of a beta test, hoping to find and remedy any glitches on the site. Eight million people have applied to date, the president said. He estimates that the White House has received some 10,000 letters from borrowers praising one of his signature economic policies. “My commitment was if elected president, I was going to make government work to deliver for the people. This rollout keeps that commitment,” Biden said at a press event. “Just as I am keeping my commitment to relieve student debt as borrowers recover from this economic crisis caused by the once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.” Biden’s plan is to cancel as much as $10,000 in federal student loan debt for people earning less than $125,000 a year, or less than $250,000 for married couples. Those who received Pell Grants, federal aid for lower-income students, could see up to $20,000 forgiven. The policy has ushered in a series of lawsuits from conservative groups and Republican-led states alleging the president overstepped his authority with mass cancellation. Biden rigorously defended the debt relief policy on Monday. “Republican members of Congress, Republican governors are trying to do everything they can to deny this relief even to their own constituents,” Biden said. “As soon as I announced my student debt plan, they started attacking it. Their outrage is wrong, and it is hypocritical.” Here is what you need to know about the application process.

Activists Seek 20K Signatures For Justice And Police Reform Initiative For 2023 Ballot San Antonio Report
Activists Seek 20K Signatures For Justice And Police Reform Initiative For 2023 Ballot San Antonio Report
Activists Seek 20K Signatures For Justice And Police Reform Initiative For 2023 Ballot – San Antonio Report https://bexarcountynewsonline.com/activists-seek-20k-signatures-for-justice-and-police-reform-initiative-for-2023-ballot-san-antonio-report/ San Antonio and statewide activists will launch a citywide petition campaign on Tuesday that, if enough signatures are collected, will give voters in May 2023 the opportunity to decriminalize marijuana and abortion, ban police from using no-knock warrants and chokeholds as well as expand the city’s cite-and-release policy for low-level, nonviolent crimes. The proposed charter amendment is “focused on reducing unnecessary arrests and fighting mass incarceration, saving scarce public safety resources as well as pushing police accountability to build a safer San Antonio for all,” said Ananda Tomas, executive director of ACT 4 SA, a local police reform group. The group will formally launch its petition drive Tuesday at 11 a.m., on the steps of San Antonio City Hall. The proposed changes, if the petition is successful, will appear as a single ballot initiative alongside mayoral and city council races on the May 2023 ballot. ACT 4 SA will work with Ground Game Texas, a group that pushes for progressive legislation in communities across the state, and other organizations to collect the required 20,000 verified signatures of registered San Antonio voters to get the “Justice Charter,” as Tomas calls it. Changes to the city charter can only be attempted every two years. It requires the petition to be signed by a number of qualified voters equal to at least 5% of the number of qualified voters of the municipality (about 60,000) or 20,000 — whichever number is smaller. The group aims to collect 35,000 signatures — anticipating that some won’t be verified — to submit to the City Clerk before the early January deadline. The group said it has done polling, performed by the Democratic political research group YouGov Blue, showing support for each measure ranging from 51% favorability for a ban on police use of neck restraints to 64% for a ban on no-knock raids. The proposal overall polled at 67% approval. “These are all things that, for whatever reason, the city government hasn’t accomplished even though there’s public demand for them,” said Mike Siegel, political director and co-founder of Ground Game Texas. “That’s the beauty of this direct democracy tactic — the initiative tactic — where we can take something that’s popular with the people and the people can legislate directly.” Conversations around the initiative started late last year as local activists grew frustrated with the slow-moving wheels of reform at city hall about expanding and codifying the cite-and-release policy. “If we know that this is something that the community wants, that has been beneficial to the community, but we’re having a problem at the legislative level,” Tomas said, “why don’t we just take this to the community for a vote?” The proposed charter change would turn that existing policy — which law enforcement and the district attorney voluntarily follow, with discretion — into law and expand which non-violent, low-level offender would receive a citation rather than arrest. The existing cite and release policy saved Bexar County $4.7 million in jail booking costs in its first year, officials have said. While City Council recently passed a resolution that “de-prioritizes” investigations into abortion crimes, the proposed charter change would prevent them entirely, except in cases where “coercion or force is used against a pregnant person” or “in cases involving conduct criminally negligent to the health of the pregnant person seeking care.” Right now, enforcement of that resolution is “entirely dependent on the police chief and potentially rank-and-file police officers following through on this policy,” Seigel said. “We think de-prioritization is way too squishy. It doesn’t actually guarantee the level of safety that the community wants.” The proposed charter change would also end enforcement of low-level marijuana possession, except in a few limited situations. This language is similar to Austin’s marijuana decriminalization, which was approved by 85% of that city’s voters earlier this year. The proposed San Antonio amendment adds that police can’t use the “odor of marijuana or hemp to constitute probable cause for any search or seizure.” The initiative in Austin, also organized by Ground Game Texas, included a ban on no-knock warrants — when search and arrest warrants are executed without police officers announcing their presence. An investigation by The New York Times found that 81 civilians and 13 law enforcement officers were killed in no-knock and quick-knock raids between 2010 and 2016. In San Antonio, no-knock search and arrest warrants and chokeholds are already banned by department policy — with exemptions. The proposed charter changes would legally ban them and provide rules surrounding “quick-knock” warrants — a kind of loophole to the no-knock ban that allows very little notification time, Siegel said. “What this policy does is lay out, essentially, how search warrants should be executed.” “No police officers may gain forcible entry into a premises, absent circumstances in which there is verified, imminent threat to human life,” the proposal reads. “A knock and announcement shall be provided in a manner reasonably expected to be heard observed and understood by occupants of the premises to be searched based on the size and nature of the location.” The proposed charter amendment includes measures that have been implemented in cities across Texas and the U.S., said Seigel, a civil rights lawyer who previously served as an assistant city attorney for the City of Austin. “These are both popular and enforceable. … We know this is doable. We know the police are able to administer policies like this in a way that doesn’t negatively impact public safety.” The sixth charter change would require the city to appoint a “justice director” to oversee the implementation of these changes. That director would also monitor “future city legislation related to criminal justice, policing, all of that,” Tomas said. “An impact report needs to be made to make sure that we are staying on track as a city.” In 2018, voters approved changes that capped the tenure and compensation for future San Antonio city managers and changed rules regarding arbitration for the firefighters union labor contract. In 2021, voters approved a change that allowed bond money to be spent on affordable housing. That same year, voters narrowly rejected a measure that would have changed the police union’s contract bargaining rights. That proposition was not a charter amendment, but an attempt to repeal local law. Tomas helped lead the campaign that collected signatures and lobbied for votes, Fix SAPD, which required 19,337 signatures and fundraised about $930,000. “I don’t foresee [the Justice Charter] getting close to the million-dollar mark,” Tomas said. These changes are straightforward demands for the community, she said. “This isn’t just us implementing our thoughts and opinions, this is from what we’ve heard from community and where they’re at.” More from San Antonio Report
