How Large Language Models Work
From zero to ChatGPT
The Scale of the Brain vs Machine Learning
Epistemic status: pretty uncertain. There is a lot of fairly unreliable data in the literature and I make some pretty crude assumptions. Nevertheless, I would be surprised though if my conclusions are more than 1-2 OOMs off though. The brain is currently our sole example of an AGI. Even small...

The Stilwell Brain
There are 100 billion individual neurons in the human brain. Working together, they allow us to make sense of, and move through, the world around us. Scientists have built replicas of the human brain with computers, but no one has ever successfully made a brain out of humans. On this episode, I’ll travel back to my hometown of Stilwell, Kansas, and turn it into a working brain!Available with YouTube Premium - https://www.youtube.com/premium/originals. OpenAI and Meta ready new AI models capable of ‘reasoning’
Speaking at an event in London on Tuesday, Meta’s chief AI scientist Yann LeCun said that current AI systems “produce one word after the other really without thinking and planning”.
Because they struggle to deal with complex questions or retain information for a long period, they still “make stupid mistakes”, he said.

Have We Reached Peak AI?
Last week, the Wall Street Journal published a 10-minute-long interview with OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, with journalist Joanna Stern asking a series of thoughtful yet straightforward questions that Murati failed to satisfactorily answer. When asked about what data was used to train Sora, OpenAI's app for generating video with AI,
The growing backlash against AI
While the crowd at sxsw2024 booing a sizzle reel of people either promising the beauty of the future "AI" will bring or claiming it to be "without alternative" is funny and went viral for all the right reasons, this event speaks to a deeper shift in perception.

Introducing Sora — OpenAI’s text-to-video model
Introducing Sora, our text-to-video model.Sora can create videos of up to 60 seconds featuring highly detailed scenes, complex camera motion, and multiple characters with vibrant emotions. We’ll be taking several important safety steps ahead of making Sora available in OpenAI’s products. We are working with red teamers — domain experts in areas like misinformation, hateful content, and bias — who are adversarially testing the model. All the clips in this video were generated directly by Sora without modification.Learn more about Sora: https://openai.com/soraChapters:00:09 Dancing Kangaroo00:22 Snow Dogs00:43 River Birds00:55 Petri Dish Pandas01:08 Big Sur01:21 Movie Trailer Astronaut01:40 Coffee Pirates01:57 Tokyo Snow02:09 Cyberpunk Robot02:30 Candle Monster02:43 The Offroader03:04 Paper Origami03:27 Nosy Cat03:38 Woolly Mammoths03:51 Lagos04:14 Television Gallery04:37 Cloud Reader04:59 Miniature Construction 05:11 Gold Rush Aerial 05:38 Fairytale Furball 05:49 Amalfi Coast Aerial06:12 Tokyo Tourist06:31 Blossoming Flower06:42 Art Museum 07:05 Solemn Gentleman07:28 Eye Close-up07:47 Chinese New Year07:58 Surfing Otter08:17 Dalmatian in the Window08:31 Tokyo Train08:42 Zen Garden Gnome08:53 Flock of Paper Planes09:16 Lost Lone Wolf
