Filament Storage Drawer by sbtern MakerWorld: Download Free 3D Models
Inspired by the ‘Modular Filament Drawer System’ by Robert Cowan (@RCDIY_187541), I designed my own system to fit the print bed of a Bambulab X1C. Just like the original, the units are modular. Since I live in Germany, the system uses metric units. The purchased elements are available on the German and hopefully also on the European market.I originally designed the system with the aim of using a frame made of aluminium profiles. I wanted to be able to seal this frame as well as possible to keep humidity outside. To keep the air inside dry, a drawer for desiccant and a fan were added. The use of seals and desiccant is optional.I realised the system with OSB boards. They were much cheaper than aluminium profiles. I had the OSB boards cut to size, glued and screwed together. The lid is only screwed on in case I need to get to the inside again. Some of the pictures no longer show the most recent objects. I made a few optimisations before I uploaded the files here. Robert Cowan's model convinced me with the following points:ModularThe length of the drawers can be determined by the full-extension runner usedLabelling on the handleBut my printing plate was too small and I didn't have easy access to components with imperial dimensions. So I redesigned the system and added the following features:Suitable for printing chambers (L x W x H) from 256x256x200 mm³Suitable for enclosuresSuitable for aluminium profile 5Grooves for sealsModule for desiccant and internal fanIncreased modularity thanks to stronger connectionsScrew connections with threaded insertsUse of metric componentsAdditional information:Guaranteed suitable for spools up to 200 mm diameter. Every 700g - 1kg spool has fitted so far.No supports necessaryDimensions of the largest partsFrame 228x228x20 mm³Front 226x226x12 mm³Desiccant container 130x130x197 mm³Recommended material: As the prices for PLA and PETG are the same, I tend to favour PETG. You need per module (data may contain errors):~330g filament16x M3x42x M3x614x M3 washers18x M3S threaded inserts (4mm long)8x 12x3mm magnet~2m 4mm sealing2x full extensions2x 10mm aluminium/plastic tubes in the length of the pull-outs (-5 cm)Hygrometer if you wishThreaded inserts and screws to connect the frames to each other are not included in the list. When assembling in an aluminium frame, you will also need slot nuts for M4 screws and M4x6 screws. If you are using shorter pull-outs, one support element on each bar may be sufficient. This will save you 4x M3x4 screws. The additional parts for the desiccant assembly (information may contain errors):28x M3x628x M3S threaded inserts~0.2m 4mm sealing tape120mm case fan PWMPWM fan extension cableFan controllerPower supply unit (suitable for fan)About the parts:Make sure the heads of the screws are flat. High screw heads can impair the function of the pull-outs. For all other parts, the height of the screw head should not matter.I bought my 550 mm slides from Junker-Slides. All 25kg slides with a height of 35 mm should be compatible.Other slides may not fit into the cut-outs in the frames. You can find exact dimensions for comparison at Junker-Slides.When buying threaded inserts, make sure you buy the short ones (4 mm). I used the M3S from Ruthex. The hygrometer used is one of those standard things. The fan used is from Noctua (NF-F12 industrialPPC-3000 PWM) You must remove the rubber corners from Noctua fans. The control for the fan is this. Similar variants should work in the same way. Make sure you have the right voltage for your fan and the terminals for the power supply.I bought a 12V power supply with a hollow plug. Make sure the power supply has the correct voltage for the fan and controller, as well as enough current if you want to run more than one fan.To connect the power supply to the controller, you can either cut off the hollow plug or buy a socket with a cable. I opted for the socket  and placed the controller in its own housing..How long should the drawers be?Well, that depends on how much space is available and how many rolls of filament are to be stored. The length of the drawer determines the length of the drawer and therefore the space required and the possible number of spools. The required space can be estimated. Add 5cm to the length of the drawer to obtain the depth without the housing. Each frame is 228mm wide and high. This can be used to calculate the exact size of the respective body. Add the material thickness of the housing in all directions (except the front) and you're done. The parts list file can also calculate the housing size. Most ~1kg spools are not wider than 70mm. This means that 7.85 coils would fit on a 550mm extension. So you can assume that either 7 or 8 coils will fit in the drawer, depending on the actual width. Bambulab bobbins are approx. 68mm wide. So 8 pieces fit in one drawer. I have summarised the results for the available drawer lengths. Pull-out lengthNumber of spools68mm70mmAmount of fitting spools250 mm3,683,573300 mm4,414,294350 mm5,1555400 mm5,885,715450 mm6,626,436500 mm7,357,147550 mm8,097,867-8 Construction:My current setup uses 550mm extensions and is printed almost entirely from white Elegoo PETG Pro. Only the labels are made of black and grey eSun ePETG+HS. There is space for up to eight rolls of filament on each drawer. This means that my assembly offers space for up to 64 rolls of filament.Assembly instructions can be downloaded. To the unpleasant things: The assembly as it stands cost me around €300.If you are still interested in building your own housing, I would be very pleased. What's next? The files uploaded here do not yet cover everything I have designed for the system. They will follow soon:Controller housingSealing cable entryFlat feet for wooden frameI already have a few ideas for expanding the system. Some of them are very vague and not for immediate use. Faking an IR remote control using ESPHome
ESPHome offers the Remote Receiver and Remote Transmitter components to interact with IR remote controls and IR remote receivers. In this guide I will show you how to control IR receiver units (like TVs or LED controllers) by sending fake signals from ESPHome. The demo object here will be this simple LED controller with a 44 key infrared remote. (There is also a 24 key version that uses the same protocol but different command codes.) But the information in this guide can be applied to any oth...
