EDT | Business News | Kentuckytoday.com – Kentucky Today https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ap-business-summarybrief-at-759-p-m-edt-business-news-kentuckytoday-com-kentucky-today/ How much ‘pain’? Fed to signal more rate hikes ahead WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell bluntly warned in a speech last month that the Fed’s drive to curb inflation by aggressively raising interest rates would “bring some pain.” On Wednesday, Americans may get a better sense of how much pain could be in store. The Fed is expected at its latest meeting to raise its key short-term rate by a substantial three-quarters of a point for the third consecutive time. Another hike that large would lift its benchmark rate — which affects many consumer and business loans — to a range of 3% to 3.25%, the highest level in 14 years. How to get a student loan refund if you paid during pandemic NEW YORK (AP) — When President Joe Biden announced a plan to forgive student loan debt, many borrowers who kept making payments during the pandemic wondered if they’d made the right choice. Borrowers who paid down their debt during a pandemic freeze that started in March 2020 can in fact get a refund — and then apply for forgiveness. But the process for doing that hasn’t always been clear. The Department of Education says borrowers who hold eligible federal student loans and have made voluntary payments since March 13, 2020, can get a refund. Bill Clinton: ‘The world’s on fire,’ but teamwork can help NEW YORK (AP) — President Bill Clinton says he is amazed by the massive response to the return of the Clinton Global Initiative. That’s the meeting of international leaders from politics, business and philanthropy set to gather in New York for the first time since 2016. Interest in the two-day meeting – which convenes a broad spectrum of luminaries, was so large that the Clinton Foundation had to turn more than 1,000 potential attendees away. Clinton says there’s a “longing” for people to get together and make good things happen. The initiative has helped people in more than 180 countries since it was established in 2005. Ukraine war thrusts German climate action into spotlight UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Germany’s climate envoy says the country remains committed to phasing out coal as a source of power by 2030 even as it reactivates coal-fired power plants. The country says it has taken this step to get through the coming winter amid energy shortages as a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Ten months ago, in her role at Greenpeace, Jennifer Morgan chastised world leaders for being “weak” on phasing down coal rather than phasing it out altogether. More circumspect as a government official, she now says the dirty fuel is bitter medicine that her country is forced to take this winter. US stocks rise ahead of expected interest rate hike by Fed Stocks closed higher on Wall Street after swaying between small gains and losses much of the day as investors brace for another big interest rate increase this week from the Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq also gained ground. Treasury yields moved higher. Markets were looking ahead to Wednesday, when the Federal Reserve will announce its latest decision on rates. It’s expected to raise its benchmark rate, which influences interest rates throughout the economy, another three-quarters of a percentage point in its fight against inflation. Beyond Meat exec accused of biting man’s nose outside a game FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Officials say a vegan food products company executive has been charged with felony battery and making a terroristic after a fracas outside a football game in which he’s accused of biting a man’s nose. Beyond Meat Chief Operations Officer Doug Ramsey is accused in the road rage attack outside Saturday’s game in Fayetteville between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Missouri State Bears. A police report says the 53-year-old executive attacked a man who tried to pull in front of him in a parking garage traffic lane and made contact with a wheel on Ramsey’s SUV. Beyond Meat has not responded to messages seeking comment. Parts shortage forces Ford to cut its 3Q earnings forecast DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — A parts shortage that has thousands of Ford’s most-profitable vehicles sitting on lots waiting to be fully assembled has forced the automaker to slash its third-quarter earnings forecast. Ford said Monday it is expecting to be missing the necessary parts for as many as 45,000 vehicles. Most of them are SUVs and popular truck models, some of Ford’s biggest money makers. The company based in Dearborn, Michigan, now expects third quarter earnings before interest and taxes to be between $1.4 billion and $1.7 billion. It reported adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of $3.7 billion in the second quarter. Volkswagen sets Porsche IPO at up to 9.4 billion euros FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Volkswagen has set the price range for the multibillion-euro sale of a minority stake in luxury brand Porsche. The deal will reap billions to fund the German automaker’s investments in new technologies and businesses including electric cars, software and services. The company said it aims for a listing on the Frankfurt stock exchange on Sept. 29 after it places a minority stake with investors, including the Qatar Investment Authority. The price range for preferred shares translates to 8.71 billion to 9.39 billion euros. Volkswagen has launched a major push into electric vehicles and says future profits will increasingly come from investments in electric cars, software and services as traditional internal combustion cars take a smaller share of the market. JBS to pay $20 million in pork price-fixing settlement OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — JBS has agreed to pay $20 million to settle a lawsuit with consumers that accused the giant meat producer of conspiring with other meat companies to inflate pork prices. Even though the Brazilian company didn’t admit wrongdoing, the latest settlement will only reinforce the concerns that the White House, members of Congress and trade groups have raised about how the lack of competition in the industry affects prices. A federal judge in Minnesota approve this latest settlement last week, but the judge also ruled that nearly $7 million of the settlement will go to the plaintiffs’ lawyers. It’s not yet clear how much individual consumers might receive. Europe’s central bank to use climate scores as it buys bonds FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The European Central Bank says it will give corporations climate scores before it buys their bonds and intends to prioritize those doing more to reveal and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The announcement Monday fills in details of the bank’s efforts to help Europe meet its environmental goals. The Frankfurt, Germany-based central bank said it was taking the step to support the European Union’s climate goals. The companies’ scores would measure progress in reducing past emissions, plans to reduce them in the future, and completeness of reporting the amount of greenhouse gases they are emitting. Both the ECB and the Bank of England have taken climate change into account more than the U.S. Federal Reserve. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Alibaba Dives Deeper Into The Metaverse With New Immersive Luxury Shopping Experience – NFTgators https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/alibaba-dives-deeper-into-the-metaverse-with-new-immersive-luxury-shopping-experience-nftgators/ Quick take: Alibaba has launched a new immersive luxury shopping experience in the metaverse. Dubbed the Tmall Luxury Pavilion, the luxury shopping platform has been upgraded to host an AR fashion show accessible via a brand-exclusive gate pass Meta Pass. Alibaba’s immersive shopping experience currently offers try-on for products, digital avatars and digital collectibles. Alibaba has launched the Tmall Luxury Pavillion, a deeper immersive luxury shopping experience. The shopping platform will host an AR fashion show accessible to select brands. The platform will be updated with a series of digital upgrades and events this month. China has been one of the leading early adopters of the metaverse, with its largest technology companies driving the adoption. Its two largest cities Shanghai and Beijing have already rolled out plans for the citywide deployment of web3 products, including incubation programs for early-stage startups. Alibaba’s investment in the extended reality market picked up steam at the end of March this year after leading AR glasses maker Nreal’s $60 million funding round. And now, the company seems set on utilising that technology to onboard luxury brands to its intuitive metaverse platform. Commenting on her company’s new immersive luxury shopping experience, Janet Wang, head of Alibaba’s luxury division said: “Before “metaverse” became a buzzword, we had already transformed this buzzword into a commercial reality.” Wang was referring to the Tmall Luxury Pavillion, which marked its 5th-anniversary last week. Leading brands like Richemont, Kering, LVMH and OTB have already showcased their products on the platform allowing visitors to try the, on in an immersive XR experience. The company has now scheduled an AR fashion show in collaboration with Vogue China and a list of top artists on September 22. The company will hand some of the followers of fashion within Alibaba’s ecosystem a free Meta Pass, giving them entry into the company’s metaverse. “The digital world can provide consumers with the same, or even better, shopping experiences and luxury-brand identities than in the real world,” Wang added. The metaverse has become a focal point of retail brands, especially those involved in the fashion industry. Companies are leveraging its rapid adoption by consumers to form deeper connections with their customers whilst exploring alternative revenue channels. Nike has already demonstrated how companies can achieve success by combining their brand authority with NFTs. Overall, the metaverse is predicted to reach a market value of about $5 trillion by 2030 according to a report published by Mckinsey in June. 5 Ways To Convert Your Home Movies To Digital AARP
5 Ways To Convert Your Home Movies To Digital AARP
5 Ways To Convert Your Home Movies To Digital – AARP https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/5-ways-to-convert-your-home-movies-to-digital-aarp/ The important thing is to do this sooner rather than later. Then you can organize them effectively. And you have options. 1. Connect to a computer If you still have a working VCR or camcorder, you can connect it to your computer using a “middleman” gadget. They’re often called a video capture card or analog video-capture device, and you plug them into the back of your playback machine. See more Technology & Wireless offers RCA cables — yes, the company you grew up with invented these connectors — are included: yellow for video, and red and white for left and right audio. The other end of this gadget has a USB connector you plug into your PC or Mac. Some also have an HDMI cable that plugs into modern TVs. These products can cost as little as $16, though more premium offerings with extra conversion features may be closer to $70. If these products don’t come with software to record the video on your computer, you’ll need to download an application on your own. Before you pay, try a free version to see if it does the trick, such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Studio, VirtualDub or VideoLAN Client (VLC), Alternatively, Microsoft Video Editor is part of Windows 10 and Windows 11, and iMovie is already on your Macintosh computer or available as a free download. 2. Record directly onto memory cards If you don’t own a computer or prefer to bypass the computer directly, there are gizmos that plug into the back of your H8, MiniDV camcorder, VCR or Betamax machine. That way you can record directly onto a flash storage device, such as an SD memory card or a USB stick. Products such the Hi8 VHS VCR to Digital Converter 3.0 ($116.99) or the ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 2.0 ($159.95) include a small display so you can view what you’re digitizing. You’ll need to pick up SD memory cards or USB drives on your own, but they’re relatively affordable. Once your home movies are stored on flash drives, you can insert them into a computer to view and copy them onto an external hard drive. Many TVs have a USB port, so you may be able to watch them on a big screen. 3. Use a DVD recorder While not as popular as a few years ago, “ripping” your old tapes onto recordable DVDs is still a viable option. As long as you have a DVD or Blu-ray player, a computer with a DVD drive, or a video game console such as one in the PlayStation or Xbox family, you can watch DVDs packed with your memories. Along with a DVD recorder or a DVD recorder drive on your computer, you’ll need to pick up some blank DVDs. Because DVD recorders can be tougher to find these days, you might consider buying a used one on Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace or Nextdoor. Remember to review the seller’s rating or reputation before you buy.

Bank Of Italy Official Calls For New Rules Taxing Crypto Assets – Bloomberg Tax https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bank-of-italy-official-calls-for-new-rules-taxing-crypto-assets-bloomberg-tax/ By Janna Brancolini Italy needs a dedicated law clarifying and expanding its rules for taxing crypto assets, the head of the Bank of Italy’s tax analysis division said Monday. Crypto activity is currently regulated by a patchwork of rules from different sources, including Europe’s value-added tax laws, Italian tax authority circulars and European court decisions, Alessandra Sanelli said. But even those fail to address key revenue sources, such as cryptocurrency mining and non-fungible tokens, she added. “This is a world in constant evolution,” Sanelli said. “Therefore, the tax legislation that emerges should be as flexible as possible, to allow adaptation and accommodate … © 2022 The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. Two Turkish Banks Suspend Russian Mir Payments After U.S. Sanctions – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/two-turkish-banks-suspend-russian-mir-payments-after-u-s-sanctions-reuters/ Headquarters of Isbank is seen next to Isbank Towers in Istanbul, Turkey, February 13, 2020. REUTERS/Murad Sezer Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com ISTANBUL, Sept 19 (Reuters) – Turkish lenders Isbank and Denizbank have suspended use of Russian payment system Mir, the banks said on Monday, following a U.S. crackdown on those accused of helping Moscow skirt sanctions over the war in Ukraine. The moves, announced separately, came after Washington expanded its sanctions last week to include the head of the entity running Mir, which is popular with the tens of thousands of Russian tourists who arrived in Turkey this year. The suspensions by two of the five Turkish banks that had been using Mir reflect their effort to avoid the financial cross-fire between the West and Russia, as the Turkish government takes a balanced diplomatic stance. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Isbank (ISCTR.IS), whose shares tumbled 10% on Monday, said it halted Mir payments and is evaluating the U.S. Treasury’s new sanctions. Isbank also said it was keen to comply with national and international laws, regulations and commercial business principles. Asked for comment, Denizbank said: “We are currently unable to provide service” in Mir. The bank “acts in accordance with international sanction regulations,” it had said earlier on Monday. NATO member Ankara opposes Western sanctions on Russia on principal and has close ties with both Moscow and Kyiv, its Black Sea neighbours. It also condemned Russia’s invasion and sent armed drones to Ukraine as part of its diplomatic balance. Yet Western nations are growing concerned over increased economic ties between Turkey and Russia, diplomats say, particularly after several meetings between leaders Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, including last week in Uzbekistan. Last month the U.S. Treasury sent a letter to big Turkish businesses warning they risked penalties if they maintained commercial ties with sanctioned Russians. Turkey’s Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati at the time called concerns over the letter “meaningless.” In April, he said Russian tourists – critical to Turkey’s beleaguered economy – could easily make payments since the Mir system was growing among Turkey’s banks. read more Many Russians have gone to Turkey since the February invasion left them few other travel options, and sanctions cut off their use of major U.S. credit cards. Russia calls its actions in Ukraine “a special military operation.” After the two private lenders suspended Mir, it is still operated by state lenders Halkbank (HALKB.IS), Vakifbank (VAKBN.IS) and Ziraat. Istanbul’s banking index tumbled sharply last week and shed more than 9% Monday, triggering circuit breakers halting trading. One banker said worries that so-called secondary sanctions could target Turkish banks or firms affected markets. The expanded U.S. sanctions last week targeted the chief executive of the Bank of Russia’s National Card Payment System (NSPK), which runs Mir. Delta Vacations Promotes Diversity In Ad Images Travel Weekly
Delta Vacations Promotes Diversity In Ad Images – Travel Weekly https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/delta-vacations-promotes-diversity-in-ad-images-travel-weekly/ Delta Vacations is spearheading a new initiative to change the face of travel marketing — literally.  Delta Vacations and Adobe have partnered to launch Faces of Travel, a campaign to make the imagery used in travel advertising and on social media more inclusive of the diverse travelers who make up the brand’s client base.  “Traditionally when you look at travel photos, it doesn’t show a broad representation of all of our customers and our customer bases,” Delta Vacations president Kama Winters said. “We’ve just launched a partnership that we’re really excited to leverage for on behalf of our travel advisors.” Related: Addressing microaggressions in travel The initiative consists of a digital media library containing 100 images of diverse travelers enjoying their journeys in scenes all over the world. The media library is free and available to use by the public and the travel industry — including other businesses — for social media, advertising and other types of content creation. It is currently available via Adobe Stock.  “It’s for anybody to use. Our competition can use it,” Canning said. “What we want to do is be a more diverse company and we want to make sure that we spread that message.” The company is also working on another project aimed at inclusivity — making their vacation packages more accessible to clients who want to pay in installments.  Delta Vacations is partnering with financial company Affirm to give customers the option to buy now and pay later. Affirm’s interest rate on monthly payments is typically much lower than the interest rate on a credit card. “We think that’s going to be a really nice addition to travel advisors’ offerings,” Winters said. “It’s just another opportunity for advisors to close that sale or give that customer a little bit more flexibility.” %

4 Things Retailers Can Do To Prepare For Holiday Shoppers 69News WFMZ-TV
4 Things Retailers Can Do To Prepare For Holiday Shoppers 69News WFMZ-TV
4 Things Retailers Can Do To Prepare For Holiday Shoppers – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/4-things-retailers-can-do-to-prepare-for-holiday-shoppers-69news-wfmz-tv/ Even though we’re only at the tail end of summer, retailers have already spent months gearing up for the holiday shopping season. And due to a tornado of factors — including inflation, supply-chain woes and consumer spending habits that changed during COVID-19 lockdowns — retailers are looking ahead to a shopping season that promises to be even more challenging than usual. It’s critical to prepare for the holiday season, because Black Friday and the weeks beyond can make or break a brick-and-mortar store, says Richard Rizika, partner and co-founder of Beta Agency, a commercial real estate agency based in greater Los Angeles. Rizika was also a vice chair in the retail services group at CBRE, one of the world’s largest commercial real estate investment firms. “Many of the merchants haven’t made money this year and are counting on that push through the holiday season to produce the profits,” Rizika says. “If things fall flat, or you miss the merchandise or the consumer just doesn’t show up, it can be tragic.” Thankfully, there are things business owners can do to set themselves apart amid a shopping environment that’s even more cutthroat than usual. 1. Get the word out about holiday sales early Gone are the days of customers idly wandering the neighborhood or the mall and popping into stores. Today’s consumers are doing far more research before stepping foot into a store than they ever have, says Sean Turner, co-founder and chief technology officer of Swiftly, an e-commerce technology company. “I think the biggest thing is being able to get the word out to consumers effectively to celebrate the savings and deals that they have,” Turner says. “Consumers have gotten a lot more planful.” It’s a smart strategy for retailers to advertise their upcoming holiday sales as much as possible: through in-store signs, yes, but mostly through their websites and social media presence. Those are the platforms customers are checking before they choose whether to visit a store, especially if they’re planning to spend more than they typically do on nonessential items. “Show them great savings and deals to drive that trip,” Turner says. 2. Better yet, launch sales earlier than your competitors Sure, you can get customers excited about your upcoming sales. You could also roll out those sales earlier than your competitors, and even before the holiday season unofficially kicks off with Black Friday (Nov. 25 this year). “Don’t be afraid if you’re a retailer and a good operator to make those deals available earlier than you have in the past,” says Jason Baker, principal at Baker Katz, a Houston-based retail brokerage. Even if you can’t roll out your landmark sales before the holiday season, consider offering smaller sales now to entice shoppers into your store. If they aren’t familiar with your brand, those sales could bring customers back to complete their holiday shopping with you in a couple of months. “Retail’s an early-bird game,” Turner says. “The first place you see the deal and you decide to buy it — guess what? That’s a product you’re not buying at another retailer.” 3. Have a top-notch website If your store doesn’t already have a website, it’s too late to make that happen before this year’s holiday season, Baker says. If you have one, make sure it’s at least fully operational, user-friendly and completely up to date on your current inventory and availability. It’s a good time to polish your social media presence as well. Retailers can optimize their website for heavy holiday traffic by “clearly marking which merchandise is out of stock or unavailable and sharing delivery options upfront,” says Peter Messana, CEO of Searchspring, an e-commerce software company. Of course, these improvements aren’t needed just for the holiday season. Roughly 17.2% of all retail sales happen online, excluding cars and restaurant purchases, according to CBRE. And around 80% of shoppers first search for a store’s website before visiting the brick-and-mortar storefront, according to a 2021 survey conducted by Visual Objects, a creative design directory. The best retailers, Rizika says, are “not only engaging while they are open — they’re engaging while they are closed.” “Talk to the consumer and sell to the consumer while your doors are closed, through your ability to engage with them online, whether that’s with a great website or social media,” Rizika says. 4. Create an inviting place that’s more fun than online shopping No longer is it enough for brick-and-mortar storefronts to showcase top-notch products and services. Today’s businesses need to make the store a destination that’s even better than the conveniences of online shopping. “To use the store as a competitive advantage to me is something that the small business has to learn how to do,” Rizika says. These improvements don’t have to be huge. If you’re in a temperate climate that allows year-round patio seating, consider setting up a couple of chairs or tables outside your store if that’s permitted. Maximize your store’s natural lighting. Set up some pretty, place-making plants around the store. Heck, see if there’s room for a comfy couch or some stylish chairs at the front of the store. The point is, think about small ways to activate the space. “Owners thinking about their places as brands, and trying to connect their brand with the consumer, is something you’re seeing great retailers have done for a long time, and more and more retailers are starting to recognize that trend,” Rizika says. “All these things that have become more and more important to us as consumers.” The article 4 Things Retailers Can Do to Prepare for Holiday Shoppers originally appeared on NerdWallet.

How To Set And Achieve Personal Goals—It’s Easier Than You Think With This Simple Framework – Parade Magazine https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-to-set-and-achieve-personal-goals-its-easier-than-you-think-with-this-simple-framework-parade-magazine/ Have you ever been overwhelmed by all of the ideas floating around in your head about what you want to accomplish in life? You have all kinds of great thoughts but then daily life happens and those ideas get forgotten. You end up staying stuck in your current position wishing you achieved more. This doesn’t feel good, and it actually happens to a lot of people. What we all need to learn is how to set personal goals and how to achieve those goals in order to keep moving forward. When we don’t set goals, we tend to lose direction. We need a map for life to keep us on track. This doesn’t mean we can’t have a detour every now and then—sometimes new ideas or opportunities hit us that require a new map. It’s also highly possible that we will have situations that are beyond our control. At these times, we will need to find a way to adjust and adapt. However, if we never start tracking our plan, we run the risk of getting completely lost.  Nobody wants to feel lost. It can be scary and stressful to simply leave our lives up to chance. You will want to take control of your life, where you can, to do what is right for you. Luckily, these guidelines on how to set and achieve personal goals provide all of the necessary steps to keep us focused on our plans.  Related: 10 Free Printable Goal-Setting Worksheets That’ll Help You Achieve Anything How To Set Personal Goals Setting goals for yourself may seem like the easiest part—you can start by writing down everything that you want to accomplish for yourself. However, you can’t stop there! You may have a lot of ideas and a huge list isn’t going to be much better than all those ideas in your head. The list needs to be broken down. Make Sure That Your Personal Goals Are SMART As you look at your big list of goals, you will first want to cross off any that don’t fit the SMART criteria. What is SMART?  S – Specific M – Meaningful A – Achievable R – Realistic T – Trackable A specific goal is something very identifiable. If your goal is to be rich someday, that is much too broad and therefore, probably won’t be achieved. A better goal would be that you want to find a better-paying job in the next 3 months.  Now, are your goals meaningful? You want to be true to yourself. Make sure your goals align with your interests and motivations. It isn’t a good idea to make goals that you think other people would want for you. That would be a hard goal to achieve. Just how achievable are all of your goals? Do you have the skills, time and desire to do what it takes to accomplish them? Don’t put something on your list that would practically take a miracle to accomplish in your timeline. For instance, if you want to lose 50 pounds in 3 weeks, it’s probably not going to happen. Instead, make a goal of losing a couple of pounds per week with a healthy diet and exercise.  (scroll to keep reading) Realistic goals go hand in hand with achievability. If you have a goal to become a doctor but have no desire for schooling, your goal is unrealistic. Finally, can you track your goal? Most goals are a process and if you can see small increments of success it will keep you motivated to stick with your goals. Related: 150 Goals Quotes That Will Help You Turn Your Dreams Into Reality Set Priorities For Your Personal Goals Now that you’ve shortened your list a bit, it’s time to prioritize what is left. Read through your list and mark the most important goal to you as number one. Continue with all of your goals until you have a prioritized list. Set Up Personal Goal Timeframes If you have a nice long-term list of goals, you will want to set up a time that each goal could be accomplished. Remember to be realistic! Start by categorizing your list by things you want to accomplish in a week, a month, a year and even a decade. Don’t be shortsighted by immediate needs. How To Achieve Personal Goals Once you set all of your goals, you need to work to achieve them. You will be surprised at how easy it is to start working on your plan when you actually have one. Take small steps at a time and before you know it, you have several goals accomplished. It’s a big help to see your timeline and it feels good to start seeing some of the easier goals getting accomplished. Just like reading a map, when you reach one goal you can continue forward through your timeline of goals until you reach your destination. Related: 25 Long-Term Goals to Make—Plus, Tips on How to Stick to Them Examples Of Personal Goals If you are still struggling with what you want to set as your goals, here are some life topics that may help you fill that blank paper you are staring at. Financial/Career Goals – Think about things that you wish to accumulate and what your budget is. Most people tend to want more than what they have money for. You will first need to determine what you really want or need. The more you want, the more you have to work and the more stress you might have. What is truly most important to you? That will help you determine if you want a goal of a second job, a better paying job, more time off work, less stress or a healthy work/life balance. Remember to be true to yourself and not feel the need to keep up with the Joneses when you are setting any type of financial or work goal. Relationship Goals – Do you want to strive to have more friends or to be in a romantic relationship? This may spur on a goal to join a club or a church where you have more opportunities to meet people. Health Goals – Are you living a healthy lifestyle? Think about things that you are doing that may not be so good for your health that could be changed. Some ideas may be to lose weight, quit smoking, quit drinking, start exercising, start meditating or eat healthier foods. Vacation Goals – Getting away for a break now and then is important and vacation goals are fun. You may want to do more than just take an allotted time off of work. Think about places you would like to visit or things you want to do and set that goal! Learning Goals – There is always something new to learn and it’s a fantastic way to keep the brain fresh. Whether you want to take a class or read up on a topic you enjoy, make sure you take the time for discovery. You may also learn a little bit more about yourself. Important Tips For Staying Motivated With Your Goals Have an Accountability Partner – Even with a good plan, there will be times when we stray away from it. It helps to tell at least one person what you are trying to accomplish. A good friend or family member can help to remind you of your goal when you begin to lose your focus. Reward Yourself – Sometimes we need a little extra encouragement along the way. Don’t hesitate to celebrate the smaller accomplishments. Whenever you are moving in the right direction, it’s a good thing! Add In Small Steps – Maybe your original goal seems a little too intimidating. Try breaking down that one goal into even smaller steps that you can slowly accomplish. Accomplishing those small goals will keep you motivated to continue. Next up, 101 uplifting confidence quotes!

MLB Power Rankings: The Nine Most Important Series Remaining In Final Weeks Of 2022 Regular Season – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/mlb-power-rankings-the-nine-most-important-series-remaining-in-final-weeks-of-2022-regular-season-cbs-sports/ Two-and-a-half weeks. That’s all we have left in the 2022 Major League Baseball season. It’s flown by, right?  Or has it? I’m convinced there’s a paradox in each baseball season for those of us who live and breathe with it on a daily basis.  On one hand, it’s easy to say something like “it seems like just yesterday it was Opening Day!” I don’t have a strong argument against it. I remember back in March when I was actually worried about the season being shortened, perhaps even drastically. It doesn’t seem all too long ago that a deal was finally struck and the owners ended their voluntary lockout of the players. We rejoiced.  Like I said, it doesn’t feel like that long ago.  Then again, remember debating whether or not Clayton Kershaw should have been removed from his perfect game after seven innings? Doesn’t that feel like ages ago? It really does for me. It feels like a looooooooong time ago. It was April 13. By the end of the World Series, the beginning of the season will have seemed exponentially further back.  It’s a grind that goes quickly and such a statement only makes sense to those of us still paying close attention. If you know, you know. With the limited time left in the regular season, here are the nine best series with playoff implications for both sides. We’ll focus on the games where both teams are likely to have something to gain and something to lose, so you won’t find a team like the Dodgers or Astros listed. (The series are listed in chronological order.) They are now a serious threat to the Padres and Phillies for a wild-card spot. And the Mets, well, they are in a fight to the finish with the Braves. Big one here to start the week.  2. Blue Jays at Phillies, Sept. 20-22 – In all likelihood, both teams are safely in the tournament, but a collapse could doom either and there’s jockeying within the wild-card spots for seeding. The Jays could be looking upward, too, and we’ll get to that in a second.  3. Guardians at White Sox, Sept. 20-22 – The two teams only have three games remaining against one another. The White Sox desperately need to damage the Guardians before Cleveland finishes with a six-game series at home against the hapless Royals.  4. Braves at Phillies, Sept. 22-25 – It’s not head-to-head in the sense that they would be fighting for the same spot, but the Phillies could harm the Braves’ chances to take the NL East while the Braves could make the Phillies fall out of playoff position. Hurting a rival is always fun, right? And both need to keep winning in their own right.  5. Blue Jays at Rays, Sept. 22-25 – It’s a four-game series, so while it looks like both teams will safely grab wild-card spots, there’s always the chance a sweep here opens the door for the Orioles to climb back into the picture.  6. Yankees at Blue Jays, Sept. 26-28 – It could be over by the time this series is played. The Yankees might not be totally out of the woods, though. The lead right now is 5 1/2 games. If the Blue Jays can have it around four or five games and then sweep the Yankees, all of a sudden it’s a race to the finish.  Royals at Tigers, Sept. 27-29 – Just kidding. Two bad teams and I certainly wouldn’t expect Royals fans to ever pay attention unless their team is in the playoffs. Can’t stray from their brand.    7. Rays at Guardians, Sept. 27-29 – This is the last time the White Sox could get help — and they desperately need it — with the Guardians playing a worthy opponent. Also, the Rays could, possibly, be fighting for either a playoff spot or the AL East crown. At the very least, seeding will matter and it could lead to this being the exact same matchup in the wild-card round on a quick turnaround.  8. White Sox at Padres, Sept. 30-Oct. 2 – The White Sox could be eliminated by this series, but if they are breathing down the necks of the Guardians — or, somehow, leading the AL Central — this is a big one. The Padres could be dealing with the Brewers and/or Phillies for the final playoff spot, too. Maybe do-or-die games for both teams? That would be fun.  9. Mets at Braves, Sept. 30-Oct. 2 – Here we go. The best remaining series baseball has to offer. Assuming it stays this close (), it’ll be somewhat similar to a playoff series. Sure, the loser still makes the playoffs, but the stakes are high. Can we get greedy? Let’s get greedy. Please, Baseball Gods, let these two teams be tied heading into the series. We don’t ask you for much!  Obviously, these aren’t the only series worth watching and there are plenty of possible playoff previews (the Rays and Astros square off twice and the Dodgers play the Cardinals, for example).  The point is, while the grind is winding down and playoffs feel imminent, there are still plenty of regular-season series worth our attention.  Biggest Movers Rk Teams   Chg Rcrd 1 Dodgers From the 1884 Brooklyn Atlantics through the 2016 Los Angeles Dodgers, this franchise had seen six 100-win seasons. Since then, there have been four 100-win efforts out of five full seasons. — 101-44 2 Astros The Astros are very likely to join the Dodgers with four 100-win years out of the last five full seasons. This franchise previously had just *one*. — 96-51 3 Braves I have an NL Rookie of the Year vote this season and I’m having a blast tracking the top two. Looks like a fight to the finish. — 91-55 4 Mets It’s easy, and, yeah, obvious that the Mets should have to pay for getting swept at home by the Cubs in the midst of a furious divisional race. But the Braves barely even made them pay for it! The Mets really might’ve dodged a bullet there before getting right against the hapless Pirates. — 93-55 5 Yankees We’re officially in “watch every single Aaron Judge plate appearance” territory. I mean, you should have been doing it the last few weeks anyway, but now it’s as serious as it gets. Also, in addition to the homers, he’s now slugging .701. No one has slugged over .700 in a full season since Barry Bonds in 2004 (.812, which … lol). 1 88-58 6 Cardinals There’s been so much focus on Albert Pujols’ pursuit of 700 homers and then this past week, rightfully, on Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina setting the MLB record for most games together by a battery that Paul Goldschmidt’s unreal season has been a bit on the backburner. The MVP frontrunner is still within striking range of the first NL Triple Crown since Hall of Famer Joe “Ducky” Medwick in 1937. 1 87-61 7 Blue Jays Blowing that game Sunday did some serious damage to their chances at the AL East. 1 83-64 8 Rays Great to see Shane McClanahan return, but even greater to see five scoreless innings against the Blue Jays. 1 82-64 9 Padres It’s been six outings since Josh Hader’s last meltdown. He’s struck out seven in six innings with only one walk and three hits in that span. Juan Soto had two hits, including a home run, Sunday, too. Maybe things are trending the right way. 3 81-66 10 Guardians They’ve won 11 of their last 14 and have effectively knocked the Twins back to where they shouldn’t matter. Can the Guardians finish? 1 80-67 11 Mariners I didn’t even mention the Mariners in the intro, but it wasn’t an oversight. It’s because the rest of their schedule is pathetically weak (A’s, Royals, Rangers, A’s and Tigers). Should be smooth sailing. Then again, they just got swept by the Angels. 4 80-65 12 Phillies That’s now four straight losses and they have to deal with the Blue Jays and Braves this coming week. They better stop messing around or they’ll be left out. 2 80-66 13 Brewers They’ve won seven of their last 10. They do have series against the Cardinals and Mets remaining, but four against the Reds and Marlins each should bode well for their chances to keep pushing the Phillies and Padres. — 78-68 14 Orioles Of the top eight in bullpen ERA this season, the Orioles look like the only team that won’t make the playoffs. This was a group full of retreads or “never-will-bes” heading into the year. The closer was traded in late July. If this is a glimpse of how they’ll develop pitching, they could be scary good down the line. 1 76-69 15 White Sox Feels like they probably need to sweep the Guardians, right? It’s the last head-to-head chance and you’d prefer needing minimal help from other teams. 1 76-71 16 Red Sox Xander Bogaerts could be the one preventing Aaron Judge from winning the Triple Crown. I guess that’s what they have left to play for. — 71-75 17 Twins I did not include the Twins in the intro, as they are six games out. A win Monday gets it to five and the Twins do have six games left against the White Sox. They’ll need a lot of help, but they aren’t dead. — 73-74 18 Giants I realize that almost everything that could have possibly gone their way last season did, which is how they won a ridiculous 107 games. Still, to go from that to *this* means they should be prepared for a very aggressive offseason. They can start with an effort to bring Aaron Judge home. — 69-77 19 Diamondbacks They’ve got some really nice, foundational pieces here....

Guy Who Invented The Word “Metaverse” Building His Own Metaverse – Futurism https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/guy-who-invented-the-word-metaverse-building-his-own-metaverse-futurism/ The science fiction icon who coined and popularized the term “metaverse” is pausing his literary career to build his own. As revealed by Wired, “Snow Crash” author and cyberpunk pioneer Neal Stephenson is working with a crypto bro to create an open metaverse platform that will, its creators hope, be a more decentralized version of the types of Big Tech metaverses like those run by Fortnite and Facebook. “It’s like Neal is coming down out of the mountains like Gandalf, to restore the metaverse to an open, decentralized, and creative order,” said robotics and augmented reality entrepreneur Rony Abovitz, who is also acting as a strategic advisor to Lamina1, the company Stephenson is cofounding with Bitcoin Foundation head Peter Vessenes. As Vessenes told Wired, he was initially concerned that the science fiction titan was “Kardashian-ing,” or profiting from his own self-created hype. “That’s potentially the first question,” the career Bitcoin evangelist said. “Is Neal selling his brand out to some fucking metaverse company?” Once people speak with the Lamina1 pair, Vessenes claimed, “they conclude this is a principled effort” and then begin asking how they plan to do it. The answer to that subsequent question, it seems, will be figured out along the way. “The economics are tied to adoption,” Vessenes said, without adding much more detail. “The more people use it, the more valuable it is.” Execution might be a sticking point. Back in 2021, Stephenson raised a half million dollars to create an incredibly ambitious swordfighting game called “Clang,” complete with its own new motion capture hardware, but the project disintegrated the next year without delivering anything. Now, Stephenson and co are describing a much more ambitious project, similar to the unified internet. In other words, it sounds way more ambitious than “Clang.” Resources could be thin as well. Wired reports that the company currently only employs three engineers, though they intend to hire many more as they build out their tech. Adding to the stakes, Stephenson says he doesn’t intend to take much of a break from writing novels: the cyberpunk king said that “when the calendar turns over to 2023, it’s going to be back to the usual.” “My publisher will send a hit man after me if I don’t fulfill my obligations,” he told Wired. Quotes: Coach Brian Daboll, S Julian Love, RB Gary Brightwell – Giants.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/quotes-coach-brian-daboll-s-julian-love-rb-gary-brightwell-giants-com/ Head Coach Brian Daboll Q: I want to ask you about (cornerback) Adoree’ (Jackson). When you have a corner playing at the level he’s at, what does that do? How important is that for you guys’ defense? A: It’s important. He’s really done a good job since we’ve been here. I think he’s bought into what we’re trying to do. I think he’s had a really good camp, and that’s led into a strong start to the season. I have a lot of confidence in him, and I’m glad he’s part of our team. Q: And just specifically, the way you guys are going to play with so much pressure and so aggressive, you really can’t do that probably if your corners aren’t capable of f playing on an island. Like some systems, you maybe hide a corner; it feels like here you probably can’t. A: I think (defensive coordinator) Wink (Martindale) does a good job though of mixing up. There’s a variety of way to play to pressure, as I know Wink has talked to you about. You can bring only four guys and consider it a pressure and do different things on the back end in terms of your coverage systems. I think Wink does a good job of mixing that up, and Adoree’s been a very dependable player for us. Q: I wanted to ask you about the start of the last two weeks. The offense has kind of gotten off to a slow start as compared to the second half of the games. What can you do to maybe expedite things a little bit, get them going on a faster tempo and being more productive as far as scoring opportunities? A: That’s an important part of the game for us is trying to get off for a fast start. That doesn’t always happen. The last two games are the only two games to go by in terms of the regular season. So, we’ll continue to work at that and put together some good openers. It takes everybody – the coaching, the playing – everybody. And it’s something we’ll work on. Q: Is it possible that you might consider like an up-tempo or a no huddle offense to kind of jump start things? A: I think we go into the week and the game trying to put together the best plan we can. And I think the offensive coaches do a really good job. Again, we haven’t had the results that we’re hoping for, but I believe in the process and the preparation that those guys do. We’ll continue to try to do a better job at that. Q: I know you’ve been talking about competition and that leading into playing time and the way players are used in the games since training camp. A lot of coaches talk about that, not a lot of coaches always follow through on that. It seems like they just throw everybody out there the way things were. A – do you think that players believed you before the season started, that that’s the way you were going to treat things? And two – is it difficult for the players to accept that kind of role? A: I think those are two good questions; I think they’re best questions for those guys. All we try to do is the very best we can as a coaching staff; we have high standards in terms of going out there, preparing well, practicing well. Each week is a different week. I know we talked about this yesterday. The receivers, Slay (wide receiver Darius Slayton), he was active but had a few reps. Kenny (wide receiver Kenny Golladay) didn’t have a lot. And if you look at the defensive side, sometimes it’s planned. You know, (inside linebacker Austin) Calitro had five. In the previous week, he had 40-plus. So, we’ll try to do what we think is best for our football team. I think that’s the most important. I think you just are open and honest with the players of what their role is, what they need to do to improve and let those guys go out there and compete it off each week. Again, we’re kind of at the introductory stages of our program and what we’re trying to do, and I think competition is the best thing for everybody. Q: When you make a decision when it pertains one of the highest paid players of the team, do you have to check above you to make that call? I’m talking about Kenny, obviously. Do you have to check with (general manager) Joe (Schoen) or (president and chief executive officer) John (Mara) and make sure that’s okay? A: Joe and I collaborate on pretty much everything in our building. I bounce ideas off of him; he bounces ideas off of us. I think something we want to create is as competitive of a team as we can. And regardless of where you’re drafted, how you got here, how much money you make, we believe in everybody goes out there and competes, and we play the guys that earn the right to play that week. Q: Any (defensive lineman) Leonard Williams update? A: It’s his knee. But it’s better than it could be. So, he’s day-to-day. He said he feels a lot better than he did yesterday. He’s walking around, so we’ll just take it like we normally do with these things each day. So, hopefully he’s a fast healer. Q: So that day-to-day means? A: Day-to-day. Q: Another defensive question for you, I guess two parts. What did you think of the way Dane Belton (safety) played, and how did his play allow you to do some different things defensively with (safety Xavier) McKinney and (safety Julian) Love? A: It was good to have him out there. I thought he played fast. It was his first NFL play, and he recovered a fumble there on the kickoff. He’s been a guy, as a young player, that’s been right in the back hip of those guys when he was injured. You can tell his preparation paid off. Just like a lot of the guys, there’s certain things he can improve on, like all of us. I thought he played fast. It was good to have him out there in terms of the defensive packages. I think that’s something each week. You go into a game, offensively you look at things. What do you like to do? How do you like to match up? We certainly do that there, and Wink does a great job, along with the defensive staff, of figuring out what we need to do for that particular week. So, for this week, it was good relative to how Carolina played the weapons that they had and the matchups we thought were in favor of us if we played it a certain way. Q: A bunch of your players in the locker room, and you said it before, they said one of the keys to this team is they’re not afraid of failure. I’m not 100 percent sure what that means, but are there examples of that that you coached in yesterday’s game that show us that you’re not afraid of failure? A: Well, I think that you can get bogged down in this league pretty quick by making a mistake and letting it affect the next play. The other thing I think for play callers is you put together a plan you prepare during the week. You explain it to the players, and then when you get into that situation, I’ve been there before, (you think), ‘Oh boy, should I really call this?’ I think (offensive coordinator) Mike (Kafka) – I think that was a great example at the end of the game there with the pass play that Mike called and put it in DJ’s (quarterback Daniel Jones) hands. I think we really had good communication from Mike to the quarterback. Again, that was discussed probably a couple plays before. He knew the play he wanted to go to. And then those two plays, back-to-back plays, where (safety) Tony Jefferson made the tackle on (Panthers running back) Christian McCaffrey. That was a great play; one of the plays of the game that allowed us to get to third-down and get that sack with Julian (Love). Pretty aggressive play calls, I’d say both on Mike’s end and on Wink’s end. So, again, I want them to be themselves, play fast, play free, move onto the next play. We all make mistakes. I’m probably the leader of that. Once you make them, don’t let it linger. Move onto the next play. The next step is the most important. Q: Would an example of that (be) – tell me if I’m on that mark with this or not – about maybe not worrying about consequences and have the conviction. You call for (running back) Gary Brightwell, Mike makes that call. (Running back) Saquon (Barkley) is in the backfield. So, if Gary Brightwell drops the ball or gets stopped for no gain, it’s easy for me to come to you and say, ‘Just give it to Saquon.’ Isn’t that the easiest thing to do? Why do you give it to a guy that has one career rush? So, is that also like, ‘I’m not afraid to fail in that situation because I believe in this play?’ A: Yeah. I think – well again – our job as a coaching staff is to do the very best we can to prepare those guys and put plays in that we think are going to work. You’re never sitting up there at night drawing up a play going, ‘Boy, let’s call this play. We only got probably about a 10 percent chance to hit it.’ You spend a lot of time on it. Do they all work? Absolutely not. There’s been times where – let’s just call it a gadget-y play or a trick play or maybe something’s that a little bit unique that I’ve called – that it hasn’t worked. And you can’t worry about the criticism that you’re going to get with it if you believe in that play and you think that’s the right thing. And that happens quite a bit, but you have to, again, have conviction in it. That’s why you’re putting the play in or the defense in or the special teams play in, and you just don’t pick it out of a hat. You work at it. You evaluate it. You practice it. There’s been times where you think it’s going to work. You go out there and practice it a couple times during the week, and by Friday night or Friday after practice, you’re throwing it away. So, that’s the job of the coaching staff. That’s what we’ll always try to do here. And I’m pleased with how those guys prepare and the preparation that they put in, much like the players. Q: How difficult is it as a play caller when you’re not having success with the run to stick with it in the second half, and how would you evaluate Saquon’s game yesterday? Obviously, it wasn’t the same numbers as the first game, but in many ways, it w...

Bank Of America Market Strategist Says ‘Summer Rally Is Over’ As Crypto And Stocks Slide Ahead Of Fed Rate Hike This Week – Economics Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bank-of-america-market-strategist-says-summer-rally-is-over-as-crypto-and-stocks-slide-ahead-of-fed-rate-hike-this-week-economics-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Digital currency markets, precious metals, and stocks dropped another leg down on Monday following the drop markets saw last Tuesday. Last week’s fall was one of the worst weeks in more than three months as market strategists believe a sizable Fed rate hike is coming this week. Bank of America’s analysts led by Savita Subramanian believes the U.S. Federal Reserve “has more work to do,” and an aggressive central bank may be “anathema for stocks that have benefited from low rates and disinflation.” Crypto, Precious Metals, Equities Show Volatility Ahead of Fed Rate Hike — Pseudonymous Analyst Plan B Says Bitcoin and the S&P 500 Are Correlated but Are ‘Completely Different Worlds’ A hawkish Fed may be like repellent or kryptonite to assets that profited from easier monetary policy and stimulus, Bank of America’s market strategists led by Savita Subramanian said in a note this past weekend. Global assets are having a rough start on Monday as all four major stock indexes on Wall Street started the day (9:30 a.m.) lower following a gruesome week of trading activity last week. By 3:00 p.m. (ET), benchmark stocks saw a slight rebound showcasing extreme market volatility and uncertainty. Subramanian and his team predict the S&P 500 will lose another 8% this year, and he further stressed that the “summer rally is over.” On Monday, digital currency markets slid 1.61% in the last 24 hours, and the crypto economy is now just above the $900 billion mark at $933.17 billion. Bitcoin (BTC) has lost 1.67% and ethereum (ETH) shed 1.79% against the U.S. dollar during the past 24 hours. Precious metals like gold and silver saw losses as well on Monday, as gold shed 0.12% and silver dipped by 0.74% against the greenback. Bitcoin markets have been extremely correlated with U.S. equities, but some BTC market analysts believe bitcoin is a very different animal. “[Bitcoin] and S&P 500 are correlated,” the pseudonymous analyst Plan B tweeted on Monday. “However, in the same period that S&P increased from ~$1K to ~$4K, [bitcoin] jumped from ~$10 to ~$20K. 4x versus 2000x … completely different worlds. Short-term moves are noise, long term trends are the signal.” Chart shared by Plan B on September 19, 2022. Bank of America Market strategists: ‘The Fed Has More Work to Do’ — Greenback Jumps Higher, 10-Year Treasury Notes Tap an 11-Year High In the meantime, economists and analysts suspect the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise the target federal funds rate by 75 basis points this week. Bank of America’s Subramanian detailed that “the Fed has more work to do” and lessons from more than four decades ago can tell us a lot about combating inflation. “A hawkish Fed may be anathema for stocks that have benefited from low rates and disinflation (i.e. most of the S&P 500), but lessons from the ’70s tell us that premature easing could result in a fresh wave of inflation—and that market volatility in the short-run may be a smaller price to pay,” the Bank of America strategist’s note explains. Subramanian’s opinion follows the report Bank of America economists revealed in mid-July. If the Fed’s not careful something is going to break. pic.twitter.com/inTtO7CZaP — Sven Henrich (@NorthmanTrader) September 16, 2022 At the time, the bank’s economists said it previously expected a “growth recession,” but the summer forecast suggested a “mild recession in the U.S. economy this year.” On Monday, market analyst Sven Henrich quoted Fed chair Jerome Powell’s statement during a press conference last June, when Powell said: “Clearly, today’s 75 basis point (bps) increase is an unusually large one, and I do not expect moves of this size to be common.” Henrich then mocked the Fed chair by noting the central bank is proceeding to execute the third 75bps rate hike in a row. While nearly every asset class under the sun is showing a strong connection to inflationary pressures and the Fed’s monetary policy, the U.S. dollar has continued to skyrocket against other fiat currencies. The U.S. Dollar Currency Index (DYX) tapped 109.756 on Monday afternoon (ET) and the euro has met parity with the greenback once again. A single Japanese yen equals $0.0070 per yen, and 10-year U.S. Treasury notes tapped an 11-year high at 3.518% on September 19. REUTERS/Kim Hong-Ji Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com SEOUL, Sept 20 (Reuters) – South Korea’s opposition to new rules governing U.S. subsidies for electric vehicles will overshadow President Yoon Suk-yeol’s first official trip to the United States, disrupting a recent display of alliance strength with Washington. Yoon, who was in London for the funeral of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, departed for New York late on Monday to attend the U.N. General Assembly. He will fly to Canada on Thursday for the last leg of his trip before returning home on Saturday. read more In New York, Yoon will hold a summit with U.S. President Joe Biden where both leaders are expected to discuss North Korea’s growing weapons threats, and mounting concerns in South Korea over the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), signed by Biden last month. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The new law eliminates federal tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) made outside North America, meaning companies like Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) and its affiliate Kia Corp (000270.KS) will no longer be eligible for such subsidies. read more The law has sparked complaints from government officials in Seoul, who see it as a betrayal of Biden’s vows to boost bilateral economic ties after South Korean companies agreed to make major investments and build factories in the United States. Seoul officials have said the law may violate a bilateral free trade agreement, and they have asked Washington to postpone the new rules until Hyundai completes building its Georgia factory in 2025. Yoon is likely to reiterate that request during the upcoming summit. A number of high-level South Korean officials have been mobilised in recent weeks to relay concerns to their U.S. counterparts and press for exemptions, though solutions are far from clear. U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan told his South Korean counterpart Kim Sung-han early this month that the IRA would bring “more pluses than minuses” to Korea but promised to review the impact of the new rules. read more “It’s structurally quite complicated because it’s already signed into law, but there is a way to go about it,” a senior South Korean official closely involved in the discussions said on condition of anonymity due to the diplomatic sensitivity of the issue. When asked about the IRA, Yoon’s senior economic secretary, Choi Sang-mok, said neither side had yet set an agenda for the summit but could discuss the issue in light of its importance. Yoon has also been struggling to make headway on other key diplomatic and security issues such as improving relations with Japan and enticing North Korea back to denuclearisation talks. Yoon’s office said he plans to hold his first bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in New York, though some Japanese media reports suggested the meeting may not happen as legal fights over historic disputes remain unresolved. read more According to a senior official at Yoon’s office, the president also plans to use his speech to the U.N. General Assembly to reiterate the need for North Korea’s denuclearisation, with Pyongyang rejecting Seoul’s recent overtures and talks remaining stalled. A diplomatic source told Reuters that Seoul and Washington are exploring how to reopen denuclearisation talks without another major weapons test or provocation by the North. “Our responses to the North’s recent moves have been low profile, which is intended in order to not give the level of attention they want,” the source said, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue. “But we’re sending a clear message that another nuclear test would trigger real repercussions, even harsher than the biting resolutions and measures taken after the sixth test and long-range missile launches.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Reporting by Hyonhee Shin; Editing by Josh Smith and Ana Nicolaci da Costa Our Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

Clean Technology, Energy Resources And Microgrids Legal News – The National Law Review https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/clean-technology-energy-resources-and-microgrids-legal-news-the-national-law-review/ Monday, September 19, 2022 There is a lot of buzz around clean technology, distributed energy resources (DERs), microgrids, and other technological innovations in the renewable energy and clean transport industries and how these developments can contribute to solving longstanding environmental justice issues. As these innovations develop, energy markets will undergo substantial changes to which consumers and industry participants alike will need to adapt and leverage. Every other week, K&L Gates’ The Energizer will highlight emerging issues or stories relating to the use of DERs, energy storage, emerging technologies, hydrogen, and other innovations driving the energy industry forward. To subscribe to The Energizer newsletter, please click here.  DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY PROVIDES US$2.5 BILLION TOWARD NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY CELL MANUFACTURING FACILITIES On 25 July 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Programs Office (LPO) announced that it would provide a first-of-its-kind US$2.5 billion loan as a conditional commitment to General Motors (GM) and LG Energy Solution’s joint venture: Ultium Cells LLC (Ultium) for the construction of electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing facilities. The financing will support three facilities: one in Ohio, one in Tennessee, and one in Michigan. That funding will come from LPO’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program, which supports domestic manufacturing of fuel-efficient vehicles and components.  Ultium’s facilities are slated to create more than 5,000 jobs and will manufacture lithium ion battery cells that utilize a nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum chemistry. The battery cells will be used to support GM’s manufacturing of light-duty electric vehicles and will assist in meeting its goals of creating capacity to produce one million electric vehicles by the end of 2025 and eliminating 100% of tailpipe emissions by light-duty vehicles by 2035. The funding of new domestic battery manufacturing facilities complements the US$7 billion of funding made available under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act intended to accelerate the supply chain for critical battery minerals and a circular economy. The funding also furthers the goals outlined in the National Blueprint for Lithium Batteries 2021 – 2030 that was issued by the Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries in June 2021. U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WILL CERTIFY FIRST SMALL NUCLEAR REACTOR On 29 July 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced that it would certify a small modular reactor designed by NuScale for use in the United States. The NRC must first publish a final rule in the Federal Register approving the design; the certification will be effective 30 days from publication of the final rule. NRC’s certificate verifies that the small modular reactor designed by NuScale meets the federal agency’s safety requirements. NuScale submitted its initial application for certification in 2016, and the design has been undergoing technical review since that time. The small modular reactor is an integral pressurized-water reactor, and the design is based on a Multi-Application Small Light Water Reactor developed at Oregon State University in the early 2000s. The NRC’s certification is the next step in NuScale’s plan to begin operation of the first small modular reactor power plant in the United States, which will be located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The planned power plant is part of the Carbon Free Power Project, a consortium headed by the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems. The goal of the Carbon Free Power Project is to provide reliable, safe, and competitive carbon-free energy to communities across the Intermountain West.  David Wang also contributed to this article.

Tom Waterman 11 Named Assistant Commissioner Of The Atlantic 10 Conference Today At Elon
Tom Waterman ’11 Named Assistant Commissioner Of The Atlantic 10 Conference – Today At Elon https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/tom-waterman-11-named-assistant-commissioner-of-the-atlantic-10-conference-today-at-elon/ Eleven years after landing an internship with the NCAA Division I conference, the Elon alumnus takes on a new title and will continue facilitating Olympic sports regular season events and championships. What began as an internship continues to yield professional success for Elon alumnus Tom Waterman ’11. Tom Waterman ’11 was recently promoted to assistant commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Following more than a decade of service to the Atlantic 10 Conference, Waterman was promoted to assistant commissioner, according to a Sept. 6 news release. In his new role, Waterman will continue to serve as the league’s primary administrator for Olympic sports regular season events and championships. Additionally, his responsibilities include scheduling, officiating oversight and championship management and execution, as well as management of conference signage and awards. The Atlantic 10, widely known as the A-10, is an NCAA Division I collegiate athletics conference featuring 15 colleges and universities stretching from New England to the Southeast and Midwest across 22 sports. Since joining the league in 2011 as the communications intern, Waterman has held several roles, including operations assistant and director of operations. Most recently, he spent the last three years as senior director of championships. “The most exciting part about the role is the continued opportunity to be able to provide high-level championship experiences to the A-10’s student-athletes and coaches,” Waterman said. “The A-10 has been a great fit for me both personally and professionally. In my 11 years here at the A-10, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work in a variety of areas and gain meaningful experience in a profession that I am truly passionate about.” In the news announcement, A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade applauded Waterman’s professionalism, dedication and contributions. “Tom has worked tirelessly throughout his tenure,” McGlade said. “His commitment to excellence has earned him respect from his colleagues in the A-10 membership, and his positive attitude and teamwork are an asset to our staff. I commend him on this well-deserved promotion.” Waterman got his start with the Atlantic 10 Conference as a communications internship and has steadily risen through the NCAA Division I collegiate athletics conference. As an Elon undergraduate studying media arts and entertainment, Waterman worked extensively in the School of Communications and Elon Athletics, serving as sports director at WSOE 89.3, where he called games for the women’s basketball program. Additionally, he completed a media internship with the Greensboro Grasshoppers minor league baseball organization. “My experiences at Elon really helped prepare me for the professional world in numerous ways,” Waterman said. “The opportunities afforded to me at Elon through the School of Communications and the different student media organizations I was involved with provided me the ability to pursue my interests and develop relationships and skills that still benefit me today.” When reflecting on his time under the oaks, Waterman charged current students to take advantage of the school’s programs and initiatives to gain real-world experience – and to not delay the process. “I would encourage any student interested in pursuing a career in sports in any capacity to get involved early in your academic career and to take advantage of the countless opportunities available at Elon,” Waterman said.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Networth Down $71B This Year As ‘Metaverse Tax’ Hits Home – NFTgators https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/mark-zuckerbergs-networth-down-71b-this-year-as-metaverse-tax-hits-home-nftgators/ Quick take: Mark Zuckerberg’s massive bet on the metaverse is beginning to have a significant impact on his wealth. According to Bloomberg, the Meta Platforms CEO’s net worth is down $71 billion since the beginning of the year. Zuckerberg is now down to 20th on the billionaires list down from sixth in January based on the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth plummeted by a whopping $71 billion in 2022. The Meta Platforms founder’s massive bet on the metaverse seems to be coming back to haunt him with his wealth suffering more than his tech peers’ from the current market downturn. The billionaire social media magnate has now slipped to the 20th spot on the list of the world’s richest people, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Zuckerberg ranked sixth in January. The billionaire entrepreneur’s net worth stands at $55.9 billion, down from $126.9 just over eight months ago. The Facebook founder’s wealth peaked at $142 billion in September last year, before plummeting to the current levels. Zuckerberg’s net worth has been on a downhill since his company Facebook rebranded to Meta in October last year, the corporate name that also houses Instagram, Facebook Messenger Oculus VR, and Whats App, among others smaller companies. Zuckerberg has been at the forefront of the campaign championing the adoption of the metaverse since October last year. His commitment to pursuing opportunities in this burgeoning industry has contributed to the rapid growth of the market. But not without challenges. Zuckerberg revealed in February this year while announcing the fiscal fourth quarter and full year 2022 results that Facebook struggled to add to its monthly active users. The company also announced a significant decline in the net income due to its $10 billion bet on the metaverse. Since then, the stock price has plummeted to the current level of about $148 per share down from $323.00. Source: Google In May, Zuckerberg told shareholders that they should expect more cash burn as the company continues to invest in the metaverse. The Meta Platforms stock is down 56.23% this year, with Zuckerberg’s wealth suffering the full effect of that decline. Although he seems to be making progress on the NFT front after rolling NFTs globally for Instagram and Facebook users, his primary product, the metaverse is far from enjoying similar success. Last month, Meta’s leading metaverse product Horizon Worlds was ridiculed online for having basic graphics. In July, the Federal Trade Commission sued Meta to block its acquisition of virtual reality company Within amid fears it will make the Facebook parent too powerful in a burgeoning industry. Earlier in August, Vitalik Buterin predicted Meta’s gung-ho approach to the metaverse will likely “misfire” because the company does not know what the people want. The “metaverse” is going to happen but I don’t think any of the existing corporate attempts to intentionally create the metaverse are going anywhere. https://t.co/tVUfq4CWmP — vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) July 30, 2022 Nearly all of Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth is tied to Meta. According to a recent proxy statement, Zuckerberg holds 350 million shares of Meta, valued at about $51.86 billion ($148.19 per share) as of this writing. TrainND Northwest Helps First Student Fly Beyond Visual Line Of Sight – KFYR https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/trainnd-northwest-helps-first-student-fly-beyond-visual-line-of-sight-kfyr/ WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) – Anyone can fly a drone with a remote control and some education, but learning to fly beyond their line of sight takes some additional work. That’s what TrainND Northwest is teaching operators with their drone academy. Tate Betts loves new technology, especially drones. “I’ve always been interested in all the tech gadgets out there, but these are really cool because you get to fly,” said Betts. He owns his own drones and has a part 107 license, but nothing compares to the Censys Senatero, a commercial drone he flies as a student at TrainND Northwest’s Ascent Unmanned Aeronautical Academy. “Flying these big commercial, professional ones are a step beyond that. It’s awesome,” said Betts. Betts is learning to fly the Senatero beyond visual line of sight, which will allow him to cover more distance commercially. As part of this four-week course, he charts a path through a computer, communicates with a grounds crew, and deals with real-life scenarios that will come up during his flights. Instructor Jim Ager says flying beyond visual line of sight allows limitless possibilities for drones, such as package delivery and pipeline inspection. “Everybody is coming to the consensus that the technology exists today to be able to integrate unmanned aircraft safely into our airspace. It’s wide open right now and there’s several directions that this could go,” said Ager. Betts’ last flight with the program was Friday, where he passed with flying colors. He says he plans on heading an oil and gas inspection operation for the company he works for. Crypto News: Russia Looks To Crypto To Evade Sanctions – InvestorPlace https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/crypto-news-russia-looks-to-crypto-to-evade-sanctions-investorplace/ Source: Trismegist san / Shutterstock.com Crypto news is already hot this month. Ethereum (ETH-USD) and Cardano (ADA-USD) are bringing in massive new upgrades, Ripple is winding down its SEC lawsuit and Voyager Digital (OTCMKTS:VYGVQ) is finishing up its bankruptcy auction. Crypto is also a hot topic in the realm of international affairs. Indeed, in a move that adds to its policy flip-flop, Russia is planning to introduce a bill that would allow it to evade sanctions. Russia has issued varying, contradicting opinions on crypto. It isn’t interested in a central bank digital currency (CBDC), nor does it want to allow Russian citizens to trade or transact with crypto assets. However, President Vladimir Putin has shown interest in mining crypto on an industrial scale. This hodgepodge of stances have culminated in a hardline ban on crypto trading within Russia. Meanwhile, the country continues to embrace the crypto miners operating within its borders. This all could be changing. When Russia first invaded Ukraine, many countries levied sanctions against it. Many feared early on that Russia would turn to crypto to evade these sanctions. While others assert that this isn’t — and hasn’t — been the case, the Russian government could prove otherwise. Crypto News: Russia to Entertain New Crypto Bill The U.S. might be moving forward on its own crypto regulation this month, but the big crypto news of today lies elsewhere. Russia’s incoming crypto bill is a big deal, because it follows in the footsteps of another U.S. adversary and could help the nation evade sanctions over blockchain. Russian Finance Ministry head Ivan Chebeskov says that the country is drafting a new bill to amend its previous ban on crypto trading. This new bill will give businesses the opportunity to conduct transactions using cryptocurrency. The draft bill comes just weeks after the Russian central bank flipped its stance on crypto. Previously anti-crypto, the Bank of Russia came out in favor of legalizing crypto payments for cross-border transactions only. This recent change of heart follows Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s bullish comments on crypto. Just last week, Mishustin tasked the Bank of Russia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the country’s tax and financial monitoring branches to come to agreement over whether or not to legalize these cross-border payments. All of this news comes, perhaps unsurprisingly, just after the Iranian government gave its own local businesses the legal right to import goods with crypto payments. It recently imported $10 million worth of vehicles into the country, the first such import order ever. These imports also mark a successful move to evade trade sanctions. It seems that Russia has taken Iran’s success into account. Investors would be wise to keep an eye on the policy and legislation news coming out of the nation this week. US 6th Fleet Gets New Commanding Officer – NavyTimes.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/us-6th-fleet-gets-new-commanding-officer-navytimes-com/ Vice Adm. Thomas Ishee took over as commanding officer of U.S. 6th Fleet and Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO Sept. 15, relieving Vice Adm. Gene Black III. Ishee, who previously served as the director of global operations for U.S. Strategic Command, leads 6th Fleet as the Navy continues to ramp up its presence in the European theater following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. For example, the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman, which deployed in December and was scheduled to spend some time in the 5th Fleet, remained in the 6th Fleet in response to Russia’s actions while embarked Carrier Air Wing 1 completed NATO enhanced air policing missions. The carrier later conducted dual carrier operations with its successor, the USS George H.W. Bush, in August before heading back to Norfolk. “History is unfolding before our eyes, and our nation, the alliance, other allies and our partners around the world are relying on Sixth Fleet and STRIKFORNATO to maintain freedom of navigation, defend our nations and the alliance, and support our partners,” Ishee said in a Navy news release. “We will continue to build these enduring relationships through training and exercises, common values, and shared experiences and vision.” Ishee, originally from Georgia, has also previously served as the director of operations for U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, and as the deputy commander for 6th Fleet. RELATED Under Black’s leadership, the Truman was placed under NATO operational control in January for the first time since the Cold War for a new maritime exercise, called Neptune Strike, that focused on maritime maneuvers, anti-submarine warfare training, and long-range strike training in the 6th Fleet. Additionally, 6th Fleet also stood up Task Force 61 Naval Amphibious Forces Europe/2d Marine Division in April to consolidate Blue-Green forces in Europe. “Gene has sustained an unprecedented level of activity as the fleet commander for the Euro-Atlantic area, recalibrating our combined forces for dynamic operations, as the tenets of strategic competition dictate, to deter Russian aggression and stand ready to defend NATO,” said Adm. Stuart Munsch, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, in the release. “No one can look at the tenor you’ve set and argue that our adversaries haven’t factored your warfighting command of Sixth Fleet and STRIKFORNATO into their calculus.” Black, who served as the 6th Fleet commanding officer since June 2020, is now headed to Washington, D.C., where he will serve as the deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans and strategy. The change of command was held on U.S. Naval Support Activity Naples in Italy.

M Corp Hires Veteran Technology Executive Bill Cody As Director Of Sales For Professional Services – Business Wire https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/m-corp-hires-veteran-technology-executive-bill-cody-as-director-of-sales-for-professional-services-business-wire/ SACRAMENTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–M Corp has hired veteran salesman Bill Cody to serve as Director of Sales for Professional Services. Cody has more than 30 years of experience in IT, representing major brands in hardware, software, services, security, and cloud. “Bill has a proven track record of success. We are pleased for him to join our team as M Corp pushes the boundaries beyond risky, outdated models toward modern digital services,” said M Corp CEO Alex Castro. “By focusing on data-driven outcomes instead of code-heavy, legacy system upgrades, we are raising a paradigm that puts our clients on the precipice of greatness.” With more than 30 years in executive roles in the technology industry, Cody has built sales teams and represented some of the world’s most recognizable brands, such as Symantec, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, ServiceNow, Splunk, VMWare, and Delphix. Much of his career has been focused on California State Government, where he worked on emerging and disrupting technologies and how to deliver better outcomes for the public sector. “I look forward to working with the M Corp team to offer innovative products such as ReM Score and MissionNXT that will help our clients succeed and forever change how agencies approach complex digital service projects,” said Cody. “After spending the past five years delivering technology solutions to state governments in the Western US, I am elated to be back focusing on the State of California.” As Director of Sales for the Professional Services Division, Cody will lead sales for new and existing clients of the firm’s consulting practice. Launched nearly 20 years ago, M Corp has earned respect in a highly competitive field among international firms. Senior Vice President Tom Larson leads the division with numerous longtime California state agency clients. This spring, M Corp announced its growing team of 200+ associates has formally established a new division dedicated to transformative “as-a-service” products. The suite of solutions, including the company’s flagship readiness assessment product, ReM Score, is the result of the company’s 19 years of experience in the modernization industry, as well as research into what does– and does not– move organizations closer to achieving their mission and vision. Recently launched, MissionNXT allows programs to deliver custom digital services to constituents without the headache of overseeing major projects, capturing and managing data, or worrying about going over budget. It’s a subscription-based service that frees program staff from the burdens of manual data collection and elevates them to focus on mission-based work. M Corp contends that the industry is due for disruption, and a thoroughly modern approach is necessary to power clients’ modernization ambitions. And while the not-so-simple act of implementing a new system may look like progress from the outside, it often fails to move the needle on an organization’s strategic agenda and instead perpetuates the cycle of technical debt. With clarity of intention to discard this model, M Corp’s new approach changes everything.

Vrbo’s Top 5 Fan Caves For College Football Fans Are Making Us Nostalgic – The Manual https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/vrbos-top-5-fan-caves-for-college-football-fans-are-making-us-nostalgic-the-manual/ Nothing says post-pandemic college football season for college football fans more than hitting the road to catch favorite college football teams. Vrbo is on board, recently revealing the best fan caves — unique vacation rentals that immerse superfans in team spirit and lore. Next Door Photos Appetites for sports travel are booming, according to Vrbo. In a recent news release, the travel rental company revealed that its demand for vacation homes across the country has more than doubled in several major college towns since 2019. For fans who travel in packs, Vrbo collated this data to compile a list of popular private vacation homes that scream school spirit. Whether it’s the B1G or the SEC, the Big 12 or the Pac-12 or any other conference country, these Vrbos are ideal for families or groups of friends who root together and use them as a home base on game weekends. Be it the Tiger Lover’s Cottage in Clemson, South Carolina, the modern Notre Dame getaway in South Bend, or the Duck Den in Eugene, Oregon, fans can gather around TV screens or use these getaways as a home base for wild weekends. The Oregon House The UOregon blog informs us that the university adopted its first nickname, the Webfeet, as an embrace of an insult to the people living in the wet, waterlogged Willamette Valley. That spirit remains alive today in Eugene where “it never rains at Autzen Stadium.” This TrackTown home is “fit for World Record holders.” Inside, there are Ducks memorabilia galore, paying homage to Eugene’s rich racing roots in addition to former Duck athletes of all stripes. This one-of-a-kind opportunity to revel in the University of Oregon’s past and present is custom-designed by current Oregon athletes, and you can tell: the decor, sports gear that matches player playlists, favorite athlete’s snacks, and more can be found inside. The cherry on top? An immersive Duck experience as a welcome gift to guests. Book Now VA Tech Hokie House The ‘hokie’ originated not as the name for a turkey, but as a cheer for the Gobblers in the early 20th century. The mascot’s name was finally officially changed in 1978. You can explore this lore and more at the VA Tech Hokie House. The charming mid-century Cape Cod blends old-school warmth with modern convenience in the center of the Blacksburg university community. Featuring a ten-minute walk to Lane Stadium, and a 15-minute stroll to downtown, the Hokie House location offers a hub for Hokie game-day activity, access to the urban downtown, a 50-foot deck, and two outdoor grills overlooking a big backyard, perfect for a halftime round of touch football. Inside, it’s Hokie Heaven with games, couches, and beds galore, sleeping up to ten rabid turkey fans. Book Now Pig Sooie Porch For those who don’t know, “Woo Pig Sooie!” is the classic University of Arkansas cheer. Shouted at Razorback sporting events, the “hog call” is a U of A tradition dating back to the 1920s. For Hog lovers, this place can serve as Shangri-la for game day weekends. Kick back with your best buds and family members on a plush sectional sofa. Chant along with the UA fight song as you take in the Razorbacks on a 75-inch smart TV. A large island and kitchen bar top give ample space for a fully equipped kitchen where pilgrims can put together the best football fixings. Step outside onto double-decker front porches that sport unbeatable views of Razorback Football Stadium. Adventure awaits on campus or recreating in the yard. At the end of the day, the massive home sleeps 15, spreading them across six luxury bedrooms. Book Now Tiger Lover’s Dream Cottage Hardcore Clemson fans will know that their cheerleaders pay respect to IPTAY with a ‘Tiger Rag’ on their left wrist. Standing for, “I pay ten a year,” this is one of the country’s oldest and most successful student/alumni athletic support organizations. Big-time Tiger fans can get a glimpse in person on a pilgrimage to Clemson’s Memorial Stadium. They can wrap the ultimate game weekend at the Tiger Lover’s Dream Cottage. This quaint, 500-square-foot cottage features furniture painted in purple and orange to match the Clemson decor. Sleeping four, this spot sports all the classic Clemson souvenirs and remembrances fans need to immerse in a great weekend in Tiger country. Situated in the iconic Patrick Square neighborhood, restaurants like Rick Erwin’s, Joe’s New York Pizza, and Sunny Side Cafe sit just blocks away. Book Now Modern Notre Dame Getaway In Rudy, the movie memorializing Notre Dame football walk-on Rudy Ruettiger, we see Notre Dame teammates exiting a legendary stairwell, hands raised to smack the “Play Like a Champion Today” sign in the early 1970s. This is wholly historically inaccurate. Instead, the placard was installed by coach Lou Holtz in 1986 to reinstate the energy and legacy of Irish football. The motivational sign still marks one of the country’s most distinct football traditions. Returnees to sacred South Bend to catch champions play can find cozy confines at the Modern Notre Dame Getaway. Remodeled in 2018, the home is a sprawling ranch, spreading from a gleaming open-concept kitchen and dining room, a broad living room to catch the game, and plenty more room to spread out. With three upstairs bedrooms and a finished basement that offers three more couches and three more beds, the space sleeps a crew of up to 12 people. Situated at Wooded Estates, the getaway is just a short walk to the leafy, tree-filled classic campus. Book Now Don’t see your team’s home city on the list? This is but a preview of Vrbo’s college town offerings. Whether it be Pasadena, Madison, Orono, or Honolulu, there is bound to be a bounty of places for your friends and family to crash on journeys back to university roots. %
