US Navy Confirms It Has Multiple Videos Of UFOs They Can’t Show You – TweakTown https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/us-navy-confirms-it-has-multiple-videos-of-ufos-they-cant-show-you-tweaktown/ The US Navy has in its possession UFO videos that it cannot release to the public as the information would “harm national security“. 3 VIEW GALLERY – 3 IMAGES The surfacing of the undisclosed UFO videos comes after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was filed by the government transparency website The Black Vault was denied by US officials. The initial filing dates back to April 2020, which, according to reports, was only one day before the infamous three confirmed-to-be-UFOs videos released, which showed US Navy pilots filming an object that moved in ways impossible to humans. Per the FOIA request, The Black Vault requested that the Navy reveal any and all videos it has on UFOs. As you can probably imagine, the US Navy didn’t just hand over its classified UFO videos because it was kindly asked to. The request was denied, but the denial confirmed there are more videos that have not been seen by the public. Notably, Gregory Cason, deputy director of the Navy’s FOIA office, wrote in a response letter to the FOIA request that the release of the requested information “will harm national security” as it may provide adversaries valuable information regarding Department of Defense/Navy operations, vulnerabilities, and/or capabilities. Read more: UFO captured in extreme detail appearing after storm then vanishing Furthermore, Cason touched on why the US government released/confirmed the three UFO videos back in April 2020, and according to Cason, the Navy only declassified those videos because they were already leaked to the media and were avidly being discussed by the public. Additionally, Cason said that the Navy concluded that the release of those videos wouldn’t further damage national security. Judging by the responses from the US government over the release of new UFO videos, it can be assumed that officials are taking the subject incredibly seriously, as it seems officials are being forced to walk a tight rope between releasing UFO videos that won’t harm national security and providing the public with requested information. 3 It should be noted that in May 2020, the Department of Defense conducted its first public hearing on UFOs since the 1960s, where officials discussed a June 2021 Pentagon report that revealed US Navy pilots had reported 144 UFO sightings since 2004.

Latest News LIVE: Chandigarh University Closed Till Saturday Amid Protests – Business Standard https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/latest-news-live-chandigarh-university-closed-till-saturday-amid-protests-business-standard/ Chandigarh University protest (Photo: ANI) India reported 4,858 new Covid cases on Monday, taking the nation’s tally to 44,539,046. With 18 new deaths, including eight reconciled by Kerala, India’s toll from the pandemic has reached 528,355. A total of 4,735 people recovered from the Covid infection in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally of recovered cases to 43,962,664. A poll by Business Standard showed that the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is likely to lift the policy repo rate by 35-50 basis points (bps) on September 30 as it seeks to bring back elevated domestic inflation within its target range. Analysts said that a heightened pace of policy tightening by central banks in advanced economies is also seen as increasing pressure on the RBI to continue front-loading rate hikes to maintain adequate interest rate differentials. Chandigarh University was closed till Saturday amid the raging controversy over the alleged leaked objectionable videos of students. The university authorities on Sunday claimed that no objectionable video was made of the girl students except a personal video shot by a girl, which she shared with her boyfriend. The woman has been arrested and accused of voyeurism under the IT Act. Her 23-year-old boyfriend, Sunny Mehta, who works with a travel agency, has also been arrested from Shimla. A second man has also been arrested from Shimla. Outstanding dues of power distribution companies towards gencos declined sharply to Rs 713.29 crore on Friday from Rs 5,085.30 crore as of August 17 following a strict action against defaulter utilities. Restaurants V The Cost Of Living Crisis: How Will They Cope? – The Guardian https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/restaurants-v-the-cost-of-living-crisis-how-will-they-cope-the-guardian/ On Saturday 20 August, Bristol’s Casamia restaurant finished its final service after 23 years in business. “I’m 36 and most of my life has been Casamia,” says the chef-owner, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who, with his brother Jonray, turned what was previously their parents’ suburban Italian into a Michelin-starred destination. “But with my brother [who died in 2015, aged 32], I know life is short. Things can be taken away from you quickly and I’m not going to keep Casamia just to boost my ego. Nothing lasts for ever.” Pre-pandemic, Casamia was “just breaking even”, struggling to hit the industry standard gross profit margin of 70%. That is not unknown in fine dining. Such labour-intensive treatment of costly ingredients for small numbers of guests is a financially precarious form of self-expression. In the summer of 2020, Casamia underwent a “bold” relaunch intended to enhance its cutting-edge reputation and secure its future. Restyled as a dark, modish cocoon of loud music, lights and visuals, the dinner price increased from £119 to £180 (wine flight, £120), and to create a better work-life balance for staff services were cut to two lunch and three dinner sittings, running Thursday to Saturday. The plan was to make theatrical, 25-course menus of potato tempura, black garlic mayonnaise and pickled black garlic, or apple tart with smoked ice-cream, for just 16 people per service financially viable. “We wanted more exciting food, to expand the ingredient selection and hit 70%,” says Sanchez-Iglesias, who encouraged the use of, for example, langoustines and sea urchins. “There shouldn’t be many boundaries in doing something creative. Because of the price, we should give everything to customers. I don’t want to be held back.” For most of 2021, this reinvention worked. Pent-up pandemic demand exploded and Casamia, led by chef Zak Hitchman, was “super, super, super busy”. That faded abruptly last winter. Christmas was disrupted by Omicron and in February the war in Ukraine began, meaning already rising fuel and food prices suddenly rocketed. A significant chunk of Casamia’s target audience began to think twice about blowing money on eating out. Sanchez-Iglesias was seeing occasional empty tables in the evenings, and worse. “We would have the odd Friday lunch where it was just two people booked.” Casamia – which, in 2016, moved to Bristol’s regenerated harbour – had good weeks, but too many where it lost money, sometimes £200, £500 or even £1,000. “We can’t charge more,” says Sanchez-Iglesias. Reducing the price or adding more covers was not feasible. The situation was “getting worse and worse”. In May, Sanchez-Iglesias announced Casamia would close and the site reopen as a new Italian restaurant. He hopes this trattoria will replicate the success of his other Michelin-starred restaurant, Paco Tapas, a bigger, busy, more casual operation with flexible pricing. “You change or close,” says Sanchez-Iglesias. Larger fine-dining restaurants may “still make business sense with a 10%, 15% drop-off; every business is unique”. But with diners reining in spending, and energy and food costs spiking, smaller, niche restaurants are on a knife-edge. This is, says Sanchez-Iglesias, “the scariest it’s been since the 2008 recession. The whole industry at that level is under threat.” Others are less gloomy. “Luckily, we’re fully booked and people are spending better than ever. We’ve increased prices but guests don’t seem fazed,” says one London restaurateur, anonymously lest they seem “arrogant”. That owner operates in a rarefied world of bills of £300-£500 a head. But word has it business in London is mostly robust. For six weeks earlier this summer, Ed Thaw had to close at lunch on Tuesdays and reduce midweek covers at his Shoreditch restaurant, Leroy. But only because he lacked staff. “There’s plenty of custom but everyone is struggling with recruitment.” Last month’s trading update from D&D London, which operates more than 40 restaurants worldwide, was upbeat while noting an “uncertain economic backdrop”. Significant cost inflation (about 10% a year) has been “compensated by increased average spends” – and not just in London. D&D highlighted its Manchester and Leeds restaurants as strong performers. Such contradictory experiences are standard in hospitality. D&D’s buying power and marketing reach is very different to that of a small independent restaurant, and the experience can vary significantly. If one restaurant agreed a fixed, three-year energy contract in 2021, it will be far better placed than its neighbour who renewed this year, doubling or tripling its bill. One chef, who preferred not to be named, told me they had mothballed a new restaurant until spring 2023 after the annual electricity bill at an existing smaller site leapt from £3,500 to £11,500. “Winter will be quiet and expensive. If you can wait, why wouldn’t you?” Stark warnings of closures abound. The British Institute of Innkeeping has said energy bills could destroy many pubs. Businesses in big, draughty buildings that may make £50,000 annually (profits that owner-operators of small businesses often use to pay their “salaries”, as dividends) could see that profit disappear in gas and electricity costs. Procurement manager Regency Purchasing Group has warned of “hundreds of businesses forward-planning closures”, as energy contracts come up for renewal. Arguably, the fallout has started. In July, the accountants UHY Hacker Young reported restaurant insolvencies had risen 64% year on year. Last month, it calculated that a record 60% of the UK’s top 100 restaurants are making a loss. Some owners of healthy, successful businesses are opting out of this turmoil. In March, Aimee Turford and Alisdair Brooke-Taylor, who run the Moorcock Inn in Norland, West Yorkshire, announced that instead of renewing their lease they will leave the pub in January. The Moorcock is busy and acclaimed for its wood-fired, foraged and fermented food, but still reeling from the pandemic slog, enough was enough. “It was clear things were going to get worse before they got better,” says Turford. The Moorcock has been packed since. “We’re very lucky that people are turning out,” says Turford. “Businesses I like have announced they are closing. Many friends are scared about the near future. These places deserve to be open. It’s not that their business model wasn’t good. There’s an avalanche of circumstances beyond their control forcing them into closure.” Mapping the contours of that avalanche can be bewildering. We understand energy costs, but the way rising oil, gas and chemical prices contribute to increased food production costs – from transport and fertiliser to heating for barns and even the CO2 used to kill poultry – is an eye-opener for most diners. Fruit, dairy and fats are up more than 20% year on year. Chefs report crazy numbers: butter is up 50%, lamb neck has almost doubled in price. Photograph: Romas Foord/The Observer The cost of animal feed, particularly grain-based feeds for poultry and pigs, has risen sharply due to the war in Ukraine. Poultry feed has shot up 70% since 2020, says the National Farmers Union. The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board reports cattle prices are at record highs and sheep are selling at “significantly above the five-year average”. Pig prices surged in spring yet, incredibly, “have not reached the point where they cover estimated cost of production”. James Swift, owner of Monmouthshire charcuterie business Trealy Farm, says pig farmers are “falling by the wayside, left, right and centre”. In June, the CGA Prestige food-service index recorded a fifth month of double-digit inflation in ingredient costs, with fruit, dairy and fats up more than 20% year on year. Chefs report crazier numbers: butter up 50%, lamb neck almost doubling in price. “It’s not just food costs,” says Turford. “It’s printer ink, paper for menus, plumber callouts, napkins. Every aspect has gone up.” And then there’s staff costs. For too long the restaurant industry was sustained by cheap credit and cheap labour. Now, experienced staff are scarce and wages are rising fast. No one objects to that, at least not publicly, but it is another cost to absorb. From talking to owners, payroll is one of the most significant pressures, says Joe Lutrario, the deputy editor at industry website Big Hospitality. “Wage bills are spiralling and cutting into [profit] margins.” Given the multitude of problems, the industry has been urging the government to intervene. And it has now announced a six-month scheme offering “equivalent support” to what households will receive with further unspecified help beyond that for “vulnerable industries”, which should include hospitality. Of the people I spoke to for this feature, before Liz Truss became prime minister, some called for a cap on commercial energy tariffs. To ease cashflow, almost everyone would like the Treasury to reduce the 20% VAT rate on restaurant sales, as it did during the pandemic. “It blows my mind there isn’t a break, given the pressures are probably greater,” says Alex Rushmer, co-chef-owner of Cambridge’s Vanderlyle. Hospitality is gearing up to fight. “By definition, you’re an optimist if you’re in hospitality or you wouldn’t open a business,” says Candice Fonseca, owner of the award-winning Liverpool foodhall and restaurant, Delifonseca. After the pressures of Brexit and Covid, she views the current situation as “a cosmic joke”. Like many owners in the past two years, Fonseca has proven adept at overcoming challenging times. For example, Delifonseca has significantly expanded its corporate catering. “I’ll find a way to make my bits of business add up to something that works,” she says. In July, McDonald’s crystalised the momen...

By Chris Drummond cdrummond@Marshallindependent.com WABASSO- The Wabasso Rabbits volleyball team hosted an invitational which features several teams in the Southwest Minnesota region on Saturday. The tournament included a pool style type of play where the Rabbits would play three matches to see where they would fall in the bracket. Their were two different brackets to fall in, the Trixie and the Thumper bracket, name after both of the mascots for the school. The Rabbits ended up being the Trixie champion of the tournament After pool play, the Rabbits would play the Springfield Tigers and beat them in straight sets, advancing to the championship round of the Trixie bracket The championship match was the best of the day for the Rabbits. The Rabbits would play the Eagles and the Rabbits would win a closely contested first set, 26-24 behind libero Audrey Johnson and Alivia Olson. However, the Eagles winning the second set 23-25 by two points as both teams combined to score 48 points. With both teams tied at one set apiece, and the championship on the line, the Rabbits would be at their very best. Avery Carlson led the team in kills with 27 for the tournament and was instrumental in the third set getting key kill and serve points. The Rabbits went on to win 15-9 and head coach of the Rabbits Barb Johnson spoke on the team’s invitational performance. “I thought we had a very good tournament,” Johnson said. “We only lost three sets all day and that was against very good teams. Overall, I was happy with our play today.” Johnson added she wanted to focus on the positives for her team and reiterate to her team that they only dropped three sets in five matches. She wants her team to understand who they played and how well they’re playing. Audrey Johnson led the team in digs with 66 for the tournament and also had nine assists. Carlson added 41 digs in the tournament while teammate Kelsey frank added 72 assists for the invitational. The Wabasso Rabbits are (9-7) on the season and will host GFW next Tuesday evening. Banks Have Lost The Plot On Metaverse Analytics India Magazine
Banks Have Lost The ‘Plot’ On Metaverse – Analytics India Magazine https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/banks-have-lost-the-plot-on-metaverse-analytics-india-magazine/ On February 17, JP Morgan became the first bank to enter the metaverse. The largest bank in the US opened a virtual lounge on Decentraland, a metaverse built on the Ethereum blockchain, called Onyx. Set up in Metajuku district, it virtually mimicked the Harajuku shopping district in Tokyo. Anyone entering the lounge was greeted by a prowling tiger and a digital portrait of Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan that was lit up.  The move was a plain marketing ploy to create hype about the bank’s crypto and blockchain service with the namesake. Along with the announcement, JP Morgan released a report on the metaverse describing it as a money-maker that could generate no less than USD 1 trillion every year. In a segment discussing its skin in the game, JP Morgan stated, “We are building and scaling new emerging technologies to modernize infrastructure and business models including but not limited to tokenization and digital identity, as we strive for perpetual innovation and better ways to organize financial transactions and payments in the decentralized web.” Sign up for your weekly dose of what’s up in emerging technology. JP Morgan’s Onyx virtual lounge on the metaverse Herding to the metaverse Soon after this, other banks and institutional investors followed suit. In March, the UK-based financial services provider, HSBC Bank, bought virtual real estate on the decentralised gaming virtual world, The Sandbox. In a statement to the press, the chief marketing officer of HSBC Asia-Pacific, Suresh Balaji said that the partnership had “great potential” in creating “new experiences through emerging platforms”. Aside from the statement, HSBC posted a promotional GIF showing the HSBC stadium next to a virtual body of water on the metaverse. No other details apart from the statement were released.  Worried about losing first-mover advantage, Indian banks queued up to join the metaverse. By July, the Union Bank of India, or UBI, launched its own version of the Metaverse Virtual Lounge like JP Morgan, called ‘Uni-verse’, as well as an Open Banking Sandbox environment. In the initial phase, UBI said that ‘Uni-verse’ would store information about the bank’s products and instructional videos.   In a statement released to the public, UBI stated that customers can roam around the virtual lounge, get details about the bank’s loans and deposits or government welfare schemes, and other digital initiatives. However, chief technology officer of the bank, Rajiv Mishra explicitly stated that the bank would not “move into the new phase where transactions and other services can be provided” due to regulatory constraints.  HSBC became the first Global Financial Services provider in The Sandbox, Source: Medium Is there an added value?  With all these announcements, there was a common thread running through them. Each one of them mentions “innovative customer experiences” without explaining much. None of them really offered clarity around what exactly customers may be able to do in the metaverse besides visiting a virtual lounge that looked bare bones. As the initial excitement around virtual exploration passes, banks seem to have been exposed—in that their metaverse promises at the moment look very empty.  Theo Priestly, CEO of cloud-based, game economy infrastructure platform, Metanomic questioned the motives behind the banking industry’s presence in the metaverse in a LinkedIn post. “It’s very much a case of ‘you were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, that you didn’t stop to think if you should,” he stated. Describing banks’ recent work on the metaverse as bland, Priestly said, “If you really wanted to create something then partner with Hasbro and build an immersive Game Of Life – Banking Edition experience that leads would-be customers on a financial and educational journey about money.” Instead of just promising innovative experiences, banks could really work on creating them. “Make it fun. Don’t build a bloody bank branch with a poorly animated tiger and expect people to engage it in,” he added.  Metaverse real estate prices rise by 700% in 2021, Source: Forbes Studies have also found that besides not adding anything of real value to customers, users also did not find these virtual banks very user-friendly. A Razorfish study noted that even GenZ gamers, who anyway spent a considerable amount of time in the metaverse, did not feel comfortable within these immersive experiences.  A partner at consulting firm Capco, Sandeep Vishnu spoke to ‘Banking Dive’ stating that while the banking industry can’t afford to opt out of the metaverse race, investing in it may not be the appropriate move for all financial institutions. “Banks need to consider their target demographic when considering how involved they want to be in the space,” he noted. Quite naturally, for a bank that caters to an older customer base, the metaverse may not quite sound like the promised land. “If you don’t have the customer base to serve in this interaction model, are you going to pivot and try to draw in a new set of customers? I think this has to be tied very much to the bank’s overall strategy and not be a one off,” he added. Like many others, banks too have launched avatar creation services and several marketplaces to buy NFTs but in the absence of interoperability, there is nowhere else to take them. JP Morgan report on ‘Opportunities in the metaverse’ Lured in by the endless possibilities of the metaverse, other institutional investors too have spent millions on buying land in the metaverse. Hong Kong’s Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) office also purchased a LAND in Sandbox for USD 10,000. A CNBC report stated that a house in real life costs approximately USD 2,80,000 (USD 287,148 to be exact). Coincidentally, this is the same as buying a virtual piece of land in the metaverse in an upwardly mobile society. This would mean that banks are spending a lot of real money to acquire virtual land to replicate the same experiences for users, virtually. Will these hollow advertisements on a virtual land with hyped value amount to real money?

Gearing Ourselves Up For The Change Of Season The Irish Times
Gearing Ourselves Up For The Change Of Season The Irish Times
Gearing Ourselves Up For The Change Of Season – The Irish Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/gearing-ourselves-up-for-the-change-of-season-the-irish-times/ The change in season is not just a chance to refresh the wardrobe but also a reminder to plan and get excited about the autumn days of running ahead. Photograph: iStock Signs of autumn are everywhere these days, but for me the change of season is most real once I replace running shorts with longer leggings. Now is the time to reluctantly accept that the sense of freedom and lightness of summer running is almost behind me for another year. But this change of running attire also marks a new beginning. It is not just a chance to refresh the wardrobe but also a reminder to plan and get excited about the autumn days of running ahead. Digging out memories As I unpack that bag of heavier running gear not worn since late spring, I reminisce about the miles these outfits have already travelled over their many years. I wonder where they will end up running this year and who I will share those miles with. The old race T-shirts remind me of challenges completed and great days out. The festive leggings have plenty stories to tell too. Even the impulse buys I bought but have not worn yet are staring back at me reminding me that I don’t need any more new gear. I can only wear so much. But somehow it keeps on multiplying. Shining bright While most of the leggings and long sleeve tops are still too heavy to wear, there is one item in the bag I need now. My hi-visibility vest will accompany me on every morning and evening run for the rest of this year and beyond. September running can be misleading when it comes to safety, particularly where daylight is concerned. We can start a run in bright sunshine and be surprised to finish in darkness. But from hi-vis vests to lights and gadgets that keep us illuminated, there are endless options on the market that are comfortable as well as practical for runners. Even though it may feel too warm still for an extra layer, this is one which we really need to prioritise from this week onwards. Staying cool With changeable autumn weather there can sometimes be a temptation to layer up when heading out, especially if the weather looks a little murky outside. But remember how quick you will warm up once running. It is not that cold yet. Your body has to work harder to keep you cool if you overdress so try to be practical. Light layers you can take off and tie around your waist are ideal if you cannot face those first few chilly minutes. Consider a warm-up indoors if that helps you avoid bringing too many extra layers. We will have plenty time in the depths of winter for all your heavy gear and once you are out the door the weather is always better than it looks from inside the window. So dress with the second half of your run in mind. Keeping hands free Being practical in the season of falling leaves and fading light means that the chances of slipping are higher right now. I always remind those I coach to run with their hands free for balance, posture and indeed safety. You are less distracted if your hands are free but also you can react quicker if you do slip or lose your footing. Most running gear has pockets for phones and keys, but if not, a small investment in a running belt to hold everything will stand to you right though the seasons. That is one item I would add to your shopping list. Taking stock As you refresh your wardrobe, now might be a good time to check to see if your essentials are still up to the job. While I don’t suggest you need to keep up with the fashions of the seasons, many of us forget to consider the basics of comfort in running in favour of the latest gadgets and outer layers. Check to see if your ageing sports bras might need to be tightened and refreshed or consider if your running shoes might need an upgrade. Don’t forget to protect your skin as well. The autumnal weather can be as wearing on our skin as the summer sun, so a good barrier cream on face, lips and hands will act as protection. Check to see if your aging sports bras might need to be tightened and refreshed or consider if your running shoes might need an upgrade. Photograph: iStock Off to a new home As part of this new beginning, decluttering might be on your mind. If you have great intentions of minimising your running wardrobe, be honest about which gear you will wear in the coming season. We probably all have good quality hardly worn items that we have kept for that just-in-case scenario. If you didn’t wear them last winter, what are the chances of you wearing them this year? If you have good quality items you know will remain on the shelf, why not give them a new running life. Contact your local branch of Sanctuary Runners who will help distribute these items to runners in direct provision. Dress for success As I pack away most of the summer gear, I could focus on what we will miss about the summer. But rather than be disappointed about the passing of the season, lets decide to celebrate the autumn instead, get out there and enjoy it. Only last month were we all complaining that it was too hot to run. It is now the optimal temperature and the most colourful and striking months in nature if we choose to look around when we go out. So it’s up to you. Pop on your hi-vis and get out the door. You won’t regret it. – Sign up for one of The Irish Times’s Get Running programmes (it’s free!) Report: Quebec’s Mohawk Council Of Kahnawake Seeks Energy To Power Crypto-Mining Opportunities – Mining Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/report-quebecs-mohawk-council-of-kahnawake-seeks-energy-to-power-crypto-mining-opportunities-mining-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ According to a report from Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative, members of the Mohawk Nation from Kahnawake are looking into using electricity from Hydro Quebec in order to power cryptocurrency mining operations. The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) created a new organization to research crypto-mining opportunities that could be added to the council’s economic development portfolio. Mohawk Council Members Create Kahnawake Blockchain Technologies, Group to Research Crypto-Mining Members of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) and the newly created Kahnawake Blockchain Technologies (KBT) are interested in expanding its economic development opportunities with cryptocurrency mining. Marcus Bankuti, a Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) reporter published an article on MCK seeking energy to produce a crypto mining unit. Bankuti quotes MCK chief Mike Delisle, the council’s economic development portfolio lead. Delisle believes crypto mining could provide an exciting revenue opportunity for Kahnawake residents. “With zero investment and an opportunity here to create a new industry, or at least a new industry within Kahnawake, it’s exciting for revenue generation and for the development of services,” Delisle said in a statement on Friday. MCK is applying for more energy from Hydro Quebec and the MCK is discussing a partnership with a company called Pow.re. The company details that the crypto mining project would not require funds from Kahnawake. “Our revenue generation and business development team has a mandate to sit down and formally negotiate terms of a possible agreement with Pow.re,” Delisle added. Pow.re Spokesperson Says Kahnawake Could Be Paid in Digital Currency for a ‘Free Roll on the Upside of the Price of Bitcoin’ Today, Mohawk Nation has roughly 16,200 members, and close to 3,000 members live off reserve. A great majority of Mohawk Nation members reside in Kahnawake, Akwesasne, and Kanesatake with most of the members (7,923) living in Kahnawake. According to Bankuti’s report, Pow.re’s local spokesperson, Paul Rice, said the “financial risk to the community is very minimal.” Rice claims the company and the MCK are focused on coming to an agreement that benefits the Kahnawake. Rice notes that mining rigs would be stored in shipping containers and Kahnawake could get a fixed percentage of the bitcoin (BTC) mined from the operations. The Pow.re representative further said that the land was already cleared and there would be “minimal impact to the grounds,” according to the LJI reporter. “What it allows for is basically a free roll on the upside of the price of Bitcoin,” Rice added. OneConnect Expands Its Presence In The Middle East, By Developing With Abu Dhabi Global Market A Digital SME Funding Platform – PR Newswire https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/oneconnect-expands-its-presence-in-the-middle-east-by-developing-with-abu-dhabi-global-market-a-digital-sme-funding-platform-pr-newswire/ , /PRNewswire/ — OneConnect Financial Technology Co., Ltd (“OneConnect” or the “Company”, Stock Code: 6638.HK), a leading Technology-as-a-Service (“TaaS”) provider, announced that it will help develop the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) SME Financing Platform, an integrated digital finance marketplace that will transform the financing services landscape for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Working with ADGM, the international financial centre in the capital of the UAE, the intelligent marketplace will help advance financial inclusion, enhance transparency, alleviate operational costs in SME finance and improve the overall customer experience for SMEs and funding organizations. The ADGM SME Financing Platform will be an open and inclusive digital finance platform that improves SMEs’ access to financing. As a marketplace connecting various key stakeholders such as SMEs, multi-lenders and data sources from government agencies, and supported by a robust loan origination process which enables seamless transfer of data, the platform will enable better, faster and more risk-appropriate financing decisions to be made. The entire loan application process is made agile and simplified through the use of digital tools such as e-contracts and e-signatures. As a result, SMEs will be able to access a wider range of financing options such as effective supply chain finance solutions. It will also give financiers such as banks and credit funds access to a wider pool of customers. Further, an intelligent recommendation engine will help SMEs identify the best-fit loan products available to them within the marketplace. “At OneConnect, we believe in creating long term value for our clients. We listen to our client’s needs and deliver next generation omni-solutions which can cater to not only their present needs but their future needs as well. With ADGM, this is our second project, which is a direct reflection of our deepened client relationships and trust. We believe that great things in business are never done by one person! We learn from all to build for all. We are excited to bring our expertise in developing digital financial solutions for SMEs within the UAE region and eventually to Middle East and North Africa(MENA) region” said Ms Tan Bin Ru, CEO (Southeast Asia) of OneConnect Financial Technology. Earlier, OneConnect had worked with ADGM to launch the Digital Lab in early 2021. The Digital Lab is UAE’s first Open API platform that allows financial institutions and FinTech innovators to collaborate and build the next generation of digital financial services. “SMEs are a key contributor to economic growth and are deserving of an open and transparent marketplace for financial products,” said Dhaher bin Dhaher Al Muhairi, CEO of ADGM Registration Authority. “With the new platform, SMEs will find more convenient, affordable and effective financing solutions that will further improve the competitiveness and diversification of the UAE economy and transform the financing landscape in the MENA region.” Despite challenges caused by the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, OneConnect has been successful in securing a new partnership building a strong relationship with ADGM. Through a comprehensive suite of technologies, a unique “Finance+Technology” business model and a customer-oriented approach, OneConnect will continue to explore future opportunities within the MENA region following the adoption of a cutting-edge platform by a leading financial centre and common law jurisdiction in the region. Gaming Is Very Much Here To Stay: Why Axe Body Spray Is Taking A Bigger Swing At Esports Marketing Digiday
‘Gaming Is Very Much Here To Stay’: Why Axe Body Spray Is Taking A Bigger Swing At Esports Marketing – Digiday https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/gaming-is-very-much-here-to-stay-why-axe-body-spray-is-taking-a-bigger-swing-at-esports-marketing-digiday/ Axe body spray is dedicating more ad dollars to esports, gaming and entertainment-based marketing channels to attract a bigger share of Gen Z shoppers. It’s a play for the Unilever-owned legacy brand Axe, which started repositioning itself last year, to stay relevant with the younger, ad-blocking generation as new competitors flood the market.  “That audience is obviously quite different to previous audiences in terms of media mix,” said Caroline Gregory, global brand director of Axe body spray. “Therefore, the approach of how we market them is quite different.” While linear television advertising remains the bulk of Axe’s marketing budget, the brand has spent the last year ramping up both spend and efforts in gaming, entertainment, streaming, digital commerce and social media, especially TikTok. It’s unclear exactly how much Axe spends on esports; Gregory declined to offer further details. “Because we’re a brand focused on guys, we spend more money in gaming, entertainment, streaming, digital commerce and a lot of money in social,” said Gregory. So far this year, Axe has spent more than $15.3 million on advertising, significantly down from the $148.6 million spent in 2021, according to Kantar. Those numbers do not include social spend as Kantar does not track those figures. The brand spent $8.4 million digitally to date, slightly down from the $11 million spent last year, according to Pathmatics. That digital spend has seen a major shift: Axe shelled out $1.8 million on TikTok this year as opposed to no budget last year. There’s also now $295,000 dedicated to Snapchat. Meanwhile, Facebook and Instagram spend decreased from $1.4 million last year to just over $560,000 this year. And spend for streaming skyrocketed from $612,000 to $3.8 million, Pathmatics reported. Axe experimented with gaming in markets outside of the U.S. before. But stateside, it’s a newer marketing channel, Gregory said. Over the summer, Axe marked its presence in Fortnite, partnering with world-famous streamer Kyle Giersdorf. And recently, e-sports adjacent platform Twitch has become a mainstay in the brand’s media mix, Gregory added. “We’ve seen great metrics as a result of the work in gaming, with increased purchase intent on the brand, increased awareness amongst that younger audience,” Gregory said. She did not disclose further details. Gaming marketing has been surging as brands look to the channel as a way to draw in new consumers, especially younger consumers who are averse to traditional advertising, says Nate Swift, chief strategy officer at OKRP ad agency.  “All in all, Gen Z is still open to advertising but it might not look or feel like traditional advertising,” he said via email. “It’s not seen as an interruption like traditional advertising can feel.” This year, eMarketer estimated that more than half of the U.S. population will become digital gamers with ad revenues expected to reach $6.26 billion this year, up from $1.43 billion five years ago. And ahead of the predicted economic downturn, marketers believe esports will weather the worst of it, according to previous Digiday reporting. “For brands, the sector doesn’t just offer an avenue through which to connect with a younger and sizable demographic, but also, new platforms to showcase their offerings, generate revenue, and fuel brand awareness,” John Reposa, technology lead at Barbarian ad agency, said via email.  For Axe, there are plans to continue riding the esports, gaming wave as long as it lasts. “Gaming is very much here to stay. So it’s certainly an area where we are going to continue and scale up,” Gregory said.  ‘Gaming is very much here to stay’: Why Axe body spray is taking a bigger swing at esports marketing

The BVI’s Jost Van Dyke Has Its First Luxury Hotel – Caribbean Journal https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-bvis-jost-van-dyke-has-its-first-luxury-hotel-caribbean-journal/ There’s a new luxury hotel on one of the most beloved little islands in the Caribbean: Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands.  Jost, as it’s affectionately known, has long been famous for its enviable collection of world-famous beach bars, from the renowned Soggy Dollar Bar to the legendary Foxy’s.  And while the island has always been home to a lovely collection of vacation rentals and, at times, some great minuscule beach hotels, there’s now something very different.  Yes, every villa has its own plunge pool. It’s called the Hideout, and it’s a seven-villa resort that’s a decidedly new level of accommodations for Jost.  It’s set on White Bay, meaning you can walk to all of the tiny coastline’s great beach bars, including, yes, Soggy.  But that’s not the biggest amenity.  Each one of the villas comes with its own private plunge pool, one of the most sought-after trends in travel today.  The villas are a mix of beachfront ocean-view units and hillside garden rooms, coming in either one or two-bedroom sizes.  The latter come with full kitchens, too.  And then there’s the party piece: the dining at Hideout is at Hendo’s Hideout, another Jost beach bar classic, from which the hotel gets its name. White Bay. There’s only one challenge — ever having to leave.  For more, visit The Hideout.  %

Overseas Investors Eyeing Up Local Firms, Investment Company Says – RNZ https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/overseas-investors-eyeing-up-local-firms-investment-company-says-rnz/ Navigation for News Categories JLL said there had been a marked increase in interest from offshore investors. Photo: 123RF Green shoots are appearing in the retail sector as Covid-19 restrictions ease and international visitors return. Property management and investment firm JLL said while retailers faced immediate economic headwinds, the medium-term outlook provided some positives. JLL local head of research Gavin Read said chief among the pressures were labour shortages, and he hoped the government would further ease immigration settings. But one positive was overseas investors eyeing up local firms, particularly after the border reopening, he said. “We have seen a marked increase in not only conversations but having meetings with offshore investors locally and finding out about where is New Zealand at. “That will be a continuation of what it we saw pre-pandemic.” Read expected more offshore capital looking for “a home in New Zealand” next year. While overseas interest had grown he had not seen many transactions so far this year. Elsewhere in the New Zealand property sector, mixed-use developments were on the rise. “Notable developments include Seascape Auckland, Britomart’s Barrington, Sofrana Buildings on Customs Street East and Galway Street, and 110 Carlton Gore Road by Manson,” Read said. He said the central business district retail sector’s recovery would also be fuelled by more workers returning to the office more regularly. “We see a real synergy between these two sectors, and retail developers and investors will be paying close attention to the ‘flight to quality’ that now defines New Zealand’s prime office market.” Get the RNZ app for ad-free news and current affairs

OPINION: Meditation — The Forgotten Key To A Healthy Life – N.C. State University Technician Online https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/opinion-meditation-the-forgotten-key-to-a-healthy-life-n-c-state-university-technician-online/ If someone asked you to imagine what it looks like to live a healthy life, what would you picture? A balanced diet, exercise, fresh air and regular checkups with a doctor? This is a typical response, but it fails to encapsulate all the habits that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. One of the most underutilized tactics to achieve a sound mind and body is meditation.  Our world is crammed with constant work and movement, forcing us to live at a fast pace with high expectations. When we lack time to process our activities or the information we consume, we experience a chronic disconnect between the outside world and the inner self. College students especially are under constant pressure to be doing something at all times, whether it be studying, joining clubs or going out with friends. Doing nothing is almost taboo. A few days of business might be doable, but living your life with so much intensity can quickly create anxiety and fatigue.  Intentionally taking time out of your day to do nothing is vital to maintaining stability against the constant movement of the world around you. Meditation allows for a mental reset, giving you time to take deep breaths and sit with yourself. You can use this time to reflect on your day or try to clear your mind of all worries. The ability to refocus or clear your mind is a helpful and easy method for reducing anxiety. According to the National Institute of Health, mindfulness-based tactics can help treat anxiety and depression. Though, keep in mind that meditation is not a replacement for medication or counseling. I like to use meditation to reconnect with my body. I turn my focus onto each body part for a moment, paying attention to how they feel, the contact they have with the ground or air, how they blend into the next body part. It’s easy to get caught up in your brain but grounding yourself in the rest of your body helps build a connection between the two.  Meditation is also the easiest outlet for spirituality. Having some level of spiritualism in your life can aid your physical, mental and emotional health. According to the Journal of Religion and Health, “Spirituality can serve as important coping mechanisms in this context by offering social support and inclusion in social networks, by sustaining lifestyle changes and by promoting positive emotions, such as forgiveness and an overall optimistic outlook.” While most spiritual outlets require a significant time or energy commitment, meditating is the most efficient way to add an aspect of spirituality into your daily routine without requiring any dedication to an established religious or devotional cause.  Along with creating a calming effect, mindfulness has physical benefits as well. Regular meditation can prevent the loss of gray matter in your brain as you age, reduce inflammation in the body and help maintain healthy blood pressure. You won’t notice these changes right away, of course, but consistent meditation compounds into tangible health improvements with time. If meditation still doesn’t sound appealing to you based on preconceptions of it, don’t let that deter you. This can be a very individualized process. If you don’t want to have to sit down, then you can meditate standing up or laying down. If you don’t want to sit in silence, then play music or white noise. You can think about your day or about the meaning of life or about nothing at all.  I believe everyone should get in the habit of meditating every day, even for just five minutes. It may be difficult or uncomfortable at first, but within weeks you will see improvements in your outlook on life. You can meditate anywhere, anytime, any way. You just have to choose to be mindful.

Bears Vs. Packers Live Score Updates Highlights From NFL Sunday Night Football Game Sporting News
Bears Vs. Packers Live Score, Updates, Highlights From NFL ‘Sunday Night Football’ Game – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bears-vs-packers-live-score-updates-highlights-from-nfl-sunday-night-football-game-sporting-news/ NFC North foes rekindle their rivalry Sunday night as the Packers host the Bears. Green Bay, predicted by many to notch yet another divisional crown, was drab in its opening game. The Packers’ new-look receiving corps was ineffective against the Vikings, and Aaron Rodgers, seeking his third consecutive MVP, looked ordinary as the Pack fell 23-7 in Minneapolis. However, Matt LaFleur’s side got off to a similarly inauspicious start in 2021. Green Bay won 13 of its next 16 games to tie for the NFL’s best record. Chicago, meanwhile, got off to a great start in its 2022 campaign. Second-year QB Justin Fields appeared to take a step forward in his development as he faced the 49ers. In monsoon-like conditions, the Bears looked revitalized, grinding their way to a 19-10 victory. Now, they have a chance to take a game from their longtime rival. It’s easier said than done — Chicago hasn’t beaten the Packers in Green Bay since 2015. But losing streaks are made to be broken. And with the Pack embroiled in a bit of uncertainty for the first time in a while, Sunday is as good a time as any for Chicago to snatch the away victory. It’s the most-played matchup in NFL history. And the latest iteration is under the lights. What could be better?

Princeton Keeps No. 1 U.S. News Ranking For Twelfth Consecutive Year The Daily Princetonian
Princeton Keeps No. 1 U.S. News Ranking For Twelfth Consecutive Year The Daily Princetonian
Princeton Keeps No. 1 U.S. News Ranking For Twelfth Consecutive Year – The Daily Princetonian https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/princeton-keeps-no-1-u-s-news-ranking-for-twelfth-consecutive-year-the-daily-princetonian/ For the twelfth year in a row, Princeton ranks No. 1 in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best National University rankings. Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked second, while Harvard, Yale, and Stanford tied for third. Columbia University dropped to the 18th spot after claiming the second spot last year.  Princeton was also ranked No. 2 in Best Value Schools, after Harvard. In Best Undergraduate Teaching, the University was ranked third, tied with Rice University. In this category, Elon University and Brown University were ranked first and second, respectively.  U.S. News and World Report bases rankings on the following categories: Graduation and Retention Rates, Social Mobility, Graduation Rate Performance, Undergraduate Academic Reputation, Faculty Resources for the 2021-2022 year, Student Selectivity for the Fall 2021 Entering Class, Financial Resources per Student, Average Alumni Giving Rate, and Graduate Indebtedness.  To create the Best National University rankings, U.S. News and World Report uses 18 sets of statistics, from Pell Grant graduation rates to faculty compensation. These statistics are developed into individual rankings in 10 distinct categories, and then the U.S. News and World Report uses a formula to determine their final rankings.  This formula, however, has come under recent scrutiny. Dr. Michael Thaddeus of Columbia University exposed his own university in a blog post earlier this year, which found that Columbia had exaggerated its performance on a variety of metrics to inflate its evaluation. These inaccuracies and the resulting controversy may be part of the reason for Columbia’s dramatic drop in the rankings. U.S. News and World Report defines 443 universities as “National Universities,” and these schools are exclusively ranked against each other. In the 13 publicly available category lists on the Princeton University Rankings page, Princeton ranks in the top 10 in 10 categories (including Best Colleges for Veterans and First-Year Experiences). It is ranked in the top seven percent of all publicly available categories but one: Princeton is ranked 186th in Social Mobility, around the 58th percentile. DeSantis Gets Standing Ovation From GOP Voters After Flying Migrants To Martha’s Vineyard – CNN https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/desantis-gets-standing-ovation-from-gop-voters-after-flying-migrants-to-marthas-vineyard-cnn/ CNN  —  Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, speaking in Kansas on Sunday, gave every indication he intends to capitalize on the latest wave of attention that has followed from him sending migrants to Massachusetts last week. “This is a crisis. It’s now getting a little bit more attention,” DeSantis said, earning a standing ovation as he talked about the southern border and nodding to the headlines he instigated when he flew 50 migrants from the border to Martha’s Vineyard. The reception DeSantis received in Kansas enforced the perception that last week’s ploy accomplished more than raising awareness for the border crisis or diverting migrants who may have eventually ended up in Florida (though none said that was their destination). It also expeditiously thrust the Republican leader, who’s running for reelection this fall, into the national spotlight as he weighs whether to run for president in 2024. The rally in Kansas marked the fifth stop in a national blitz by DeSantis to boost a new generation of conservative candidates and test his political brand in a tour coordinated by the conservative group Turning Point Action. DeSantis’ road trip mirrors the state-by-state rallies that former President Donald Trump is holding in battlegrounds ahead of the midterms and his expected foray into another bid for the White House, and it has served as a prelude to a hypothetical primary battle between the GOP’s two biggest names. On Saturday, Trump held a rally for Republican Senate nominee J.D. Vance in Youngstown, Ohio, where DeSantis dazzled a large crowd last month. From Olathe, Kansas, DeSantis is expected to travel to Green Bay to stump for Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial nominee Tim Michels, about 90 minutes north of where Trump did the same in August. DeSantis’ action on migrants has galvanized the GOP base and won praise from fellow Republicans, some of whom have predicted it will pay off for DeSantis politically. Conservative radio host Pete Mundo, speaking earlier in the program, called the flights arranged by the Florida governor as “one of the most savvy political moves I’ve ever seen in my lifetime” and suggested sending protesters outside the event to Martha’s Vineyard. Kansas GOP Sen. Roger Marshall said in his remarks that he asked DeSantis backstage, “How I could get a ticket to drive one of those buses from the border to the Delaware beach?” The actions by DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who sent migrants to Washington, DC, were widely criticized by local officials in the cities where the migrants arrived unannounced, as well as by Democrats and the White House. President Joe Biden accused the Republican governors of “playing politics with human beings.” But in the days after migrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard, turning the wealthy vacation destination into a waypoint for asylum seekers overnight, DeSantis has doubled down on his decision to get Florida involved. He vowed to use “every penny” of the $12 million the Legislature budgeted to transport more migrants from the border, even though the state law says the money is intended to move people from inside his state. DeSantis told the Kansas crowd that his move laid bare the hollowness of sanctuary cities that advertise as welcoming to outsiders. The 50 migrants were “given basically a lottery ticket to get to the wealthiest sanctuary jurisdiction in the country,” DeSantis said, adding that there were “job listings” on the island and hotels where migrants could stay. “You’re talking about 50 people. Did they get them employed? Did they get them set up? No,” DeSantis said of the residents of Martha’s Vineyard. “They called out the National Guard and they deported those people off the island the very next day.” The migrants were moved by boat to Cape Cod 48 hours after arriving in Massachusetts to receive additional services. Despite no warning of the migrants’ arrival, the citizens there quickly mobilized food and shelter. “Now we see that’s just self-congratulatory virtue signaling,” DeSantis said. DeSantis’ recent actions – and many others – received a positive response from GOP candidates in deep-red Kansas. “I’m all for it,” said Derek Schmidt, the Republican state attorney general running for governor whom DeSantis was campaigning for in Olathe. Schmidt is challenging incumbent Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, a political outlier who is hoping to once again win in a state where Trump carried all but a handful of counties just two years ago. Schmidt’s odds are complicated by state Sen. Dennis Pyle, a former Republican running for governor as a conservative Independent. Despite the toss-up nature of the race, it has largely flown under the national radar compared to other closely watched contests for governor and US Senate. Kansas made headlines last month when voters overwhelmingly rejected a ballot measure that would have allowed lawmakers to ban abortion in the state, which has contributed to Democratic enthusiasm across the country about running on the issue in November. DeSantis’ visit to Kansas was illustrative of his growing influence in all corners of the Republican Party. Not only did he draw a sizable crowd, but Schmidt made clear that if elected he would model his governorship after DeSantis. “I want a future for our great state of Kansas that looks a whole lot more like Ron DeSantis has in Florida than like where Joe Biden and Laura Kelly want to take this country,” Schmidt said. Schmidt highlighted DeSantis policies he would adopt, many modeled off the divisive social battles that Floridians have experienced in the past two years. He promised Kansas would have a parents bill of rights, that he would ban sexual orientation and gender identity instruction in the classroom and would prohibit transgender women and girls from participating in scholastic female athletics – all actions DeSantis has already taken. “You have a legislature here that will produce a lot of good legislation,” DeSantis said. “You just need a governor that will sign the legislation. And you guys can make that happen.” Ahead of the planned rally in Wisconsin, Democratic Gov. Tony Evers panned Michels and DeSantis for holding a rally a couple miles from Lambeau Field just before the Green Bay Packers kicked off their home opener against the Chicago Bears. “Wisconsinites don’t want an out of touch, out of state radical ruining their Sunday — and they don’t want Ron DeSantis here either. Tim Michels continues to show Wisconsin voters that he’s wrong for our state, and holding an event just before a Packers game with one of the most divisive politicians in the country is another red flag,” Evers said in a statement. Meanwhile, in Kansas, Republicans assured the audience that they made sure the event wouldn’t conflict with a Kansas City Chiefs game. The city’s much-loved professional football team played on Thursday night. DeSantis joked, “(Organizers) said they wanted to do it on a Sunday afternoon and I said, ‘the Kansas City Chiefs better not be playing.’” %

The dollar is hovering close to its highest level in more than two decades against a key index measuring six major currencies. Many professional investors don’t expect the dollar to ease off anytime soon. Its rise makes an impact on nearly everyone, even those who will never travel beyond U.S. borders. The strength helps to limit inflation, but it can also hurt profits for many U.S. companies. EU proposes to suspend billions in funds to Hungary BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union’s executive branch has recommended that the bloc suspend around 7.5 billion euros (dollars) in funding to Hungary. The European Commission is concerned about democratic backsliding and the possible mismanagement of EU money. EU Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn said Sunday that despite measures Hungary has proposed to address the deficiencies, the commission is recommending the suspension of funds “amounting to an estimated amount of 7.5 billion euros.” Hungary has until Nov. 19 to address the concerns. The commission has for nearly a decade accused Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of dismantling democratic institutions. He denies the accusations. First public global database of fossil fuels launches On Monday, the world’s first public database of fossil fuel production, reserves and emissions launches. Called The Global Registry of Fossil Fuels, it was developed by the groups Carbon Tracker and the Global Energy Monitor, and contains data on over 50,000 oil, gas and coal fields in 89 countries, covering 75% of global production. It shows that the United States and Russia have enough fossil fuel reserves to exhaust the world’s remaining carbon budget to stay under 1.5 degrees Celsius warming. And it shows that if burned, the world’s reserves would generate 3.5 trillion tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than all that’s been produced since the Industrial Revolution. Zelenskyy promises no ‘lull’ in taking back Ukrainian towns KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised his country Sunday there would be no letup after a series of Ukrainian victories taking cities and towns back from Russian troops. He said there would be no lull until all of Ukraine is freed. Russian shelling hit cities and towns across a wide stretch of Ukraine over the weekend. The British defense ministry warned that Russia is likely to increase attacks on civilian targets as it suffers battlefield defeats. A Vatican envoy distributing humanitarian aid was among those who came under fire. There were no injuries. And prosecutors in Kharkiv are accusing Russia of torturing civilians in one village that was recently freed. Royal fans give London tourism a bump amid UK economic woes LONDON (AP) — Hotels, restaurants and shops are packed as royal fans pour into the heart of London to experience the flag-lined roads, pomp-filled processions and brave a mileslong line for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to bid adieu to Queen Elizabeth II. Visitors crowding into central London from as far away as the U.S. and India for the historic moment are giving a boost to businesses at a time when the British economy is facing a cost-of-living crisis fueled by the highest inflation in four decades and predictions of a looming recession. The overall economic boost might be limited because Monday has been declared a public holiday for the queen’s funeral. But experts said renewed interest in the royal family could sustain tourism demand. Prospect of far-right female premier divides Italian women ROME (AP) — Italy could be on the verge of electing its first woman premier. That prospect delights some Italian women, but others are dismayed by her conservative beliefs and policies. Giorgia Meloni and the far-right Brothers of Italy party she co-founded less than a decade ago will triumph in the Sept. 25 parliamentary election if opinion polls prove on the mark. Meloni might then be tapped by Italy’s president to try to form a new government. Some women worry that Meloni might erode abortion access. Supporters laud her conservative agenda in favor of “God, homeland and family.” Treasury recommends exploring creation of a digital dollar WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is moving one step closer to developing a central bank digital currency, known as the digital dollar. Administration officials say it’d help reinforce the U.S. role as a leader in the world financial system. The White House said Friday that after President Joe Biden issued an executive order in March calling on agencies to look at ways to regulate digital assets, the agencies came up with nine reports. One Treasury recommendation is the U.S. “advance policy and technical work on a potential central bank digital currency.” The Atlantic Council nonpartisan think tank says many other countries already are exploring or have created a central bank digital currency. Maggots key to crisis-time fertilizer for Ugandan farmers KAYUNGA, Uganda (AP) — Moses Wamugango peered into the plastic vats where maggots wriggled in decomposing filth, the enviable project of a neighbor who spoke of the fertilizer problem he had been able to solve. The maggots are the larvae of the black soldier fly, an insect whose digestive system effectively turns food waste into organic fertilizer. Farmers normally would despise them if they weren’t so valuable. Uganda is a regional food basket, but rising commodity prices blamed on the war in Ukraine are hurting farmers. Fertilizer prices have doubled or tripled, with some popular products hard to find on the market. DOJ to use ‘carrot and stick’ approach on corporate crime WASHINGTON (AP) — A top Justice Department official has announced new incentives for companies that cooperate with corporate criminal investigations and a $250 million Congressional budget request to expand its work. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said Thursday there has been a decline in the number of corporate criminal prosecutions over the last decade. To help address that, she is directing every division that prosecutes corporate crime to develop programs that incentivize companies to report misconduct.  In some cases, no one will have to plead guilty to criminal charges if the violation was self-reported and the company fixed it. Companies will also be required to come forward more quickly with evidence of suspected misdeeds to get leniency. China’s consumer, factory activity improve but still weak BEIJING (AP) — Chinese official data show consumer spending and factory output improved in August but were still weak. Forecasters warned the world’s second-largest economy is vulnerable to disruption from repeated shutdowns of cities to fight virus outbreaks. Housing sales plummeted while prices edged lower. That adds to a slide in real estate activity under pressure from a government campaign to control debt that set off an economic slump in mid-2021. Chinese leaders are trying to prop up economic growth that sank to 2.5% over a year earlier in the first six months of 2022, less than half the official 5.5% target. Copyright © 2022 . Heres Why Eating Healthy Is Getting More Expensive Stuff
Here’s Why Eating Healthy Is Getting More Expensive – Stuff https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/heres-why-eating-healthy-is-getting-more-expensive-stuff/ Kathryn George/Stuff Fruits and vegetables have risen in price faster than unprocessed. Bad news if you’re trying to eat healthier – the price of processed food is increasing at a slower rate than unprocessed options, such as fruit and vegetables. Stats NZ’s latest food price index showed food prices lifted 8.3% in August compared with the same time a year earlier, the largest year-on-year increase since July 2009, when prices were up 8.4%. Fruit and vegetable prices increased by 15% and meat, poultry, and fish prices increased by 7.6%, while bread and cereals increased by 7% over the year and preserved, prepared, and processed meat increased only by 6%. Pastry was the only processed food that increased above the less processed options, with an increase of 23%. READ MORE: * Why getting your five-plus a day cost more in 2020 * Record prices for zucchini and cucumbers during Australian imports ban * Opposition mounts to watered down labelling rules Vegetables had the largest impact on the monthly rise, influenced by higher prices for tomatoes, capsicums, and cabbage. Briar Mills and Sarah Asmussen, who are completing post-graduate work in advanced nutrition practice at Otago University, said price increases were smaller for most processed food products. “Over the last year, there has been an increase in the cost of both processed and unprocessed foods,” Mills said. 1 NEWS Some Kiwis say they’re thinking more carefully about the amount of food they’re wasting amid high prices. (Video first published in June 2022) Processed foods were foods that have been changed from their natural form, such as flour into a biscuit. But food can be processed to different degrees. A whole pineapple could be unprocessed, but if it was cut into pieces, it would be minimally processed. If it was tinned, it would be processed, and if it was turned into sweetened pineapple juice, it would be classed as ultra-processed. “Minimally processed foods are processed for safety or preservation, such as cooking chicken and heat-treating milk to make it safe, or freezing fruit and vegetables to increase shelf life,” Asmussen said. In comparison, creating highly processed or ultra-processed foods often involves the addition of sugar, salt, and saturated fat, she said. “The higher degree of processing often means the products have lots of calories but not many nutrients. High consumption of these can lead to an increased risk of non-communicable diseases like heart disease. Therefore, eating more whole foods and minimally processed foods, and less heavily processed foods, is recommended,” Mills said. Mills said unprocessed foods were affected more significantly by Covid-19 lockdowns, labour shortages, the war in Ukraine, and extreme weather events, which were the main contributors to the rising cost of food, as the cost to produce it was greater than unprocessed foods. The rising cost of living meant people would be reaching for cheaper, more processed foods. “A lack of time can also lead people to opt for more convenient food options, which are often heavily processed and energy dense,” she said. Mills said if some unprocessed foods were getting too expensive, sticking to minimally processed foods would offer nutrients. “Frozen vegetables still contain the nutrients that fresh vegetables do and can be a cheap alternative.” Growing your own fruit and vegetables would help you save, as well as planning meals ahead and buying in bulk.

What Is The Metaverse Today? Heres What Investors Need To Know Forbes
What Is The Metaverse Today? Heres What Investors Need To Know Forbes
What Is The Metaverse Today? Here’s What Investors Need To Know – Forbes https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-is-the-metaverse-today-heres-what-investors-need-to-know-forbes/ Getty Images Key Takeaways The metaverse offers a new spin on a digital world You can participate in the metaverse as an avatar It’s easy to expose your portfolio to the metaverse with a Q.ai kit You’ve heard the term “metaverse” thrown around casually, at work, and everywhere in between. Although this term is commonly used, you might not be entirely clear on what the metaverse is in its current state. Let’s jump right in to explore what the metaverse really is right now and what it might mean for your investment portfolio. What is the Metaverse today? Although coined in the early 1990s in a Neal Stephenson novel, the early phases of the metaverse are now a reality. When you hear about the metaverse, it’s often portrayed as the next frontier in the technology industry. The metaverse is a collection of digital platforms focused on virtual and augmented reality opportunities. Of course, the focus of the metaverse is the virtual realm. But some people envision the metaverse including hardware, primarily headsets and smartphones. The ultimate goal of this digital space seems to be the creation of an individualized experience for the user. In the future, you might be able to explore far flung destinations through a VR headset or connect with others in entirely new ways through the digital network of the metaverse. The foundation of this digital realm is the blockchain. Examples of popular Metaverse games As of now, the metaverse is most widely accessible through integrations within other online attractions, like video games. A few of the most popular video games currently in the metaverse include: Sandbox: Within Sandbox, you can create any number of things, including avatars, vehicles, tools, and more. When you create within Sandbox, you’ll have the option to sell your creations to other users. The main currency used within this platform is Sand, which can be used to purchase pieces of digital real estate. Decentraland: Decentraland gives users the opportunity to create avatars, purchase wearables for your avatar, and buy a piece of digital real estate available for sale. It’s even possible to earn an income in this world by setting up a business on your slice of digital real estate, which is powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Farmers World: Farmers World launched in 2021. You can purchase a piece of digital property to farm for an income. A few ways to earn within this world include mining gold, breeding livestock, and building homes. As your plot of land creates goods, you can trade with other users. Axie Infinity: This corner of the metaverse was inspired by Pokemon. Within the game, virtual pets and items are available as NFTs. At first glance, it’s easy to confuse regular video games with the metaverse. But in general, most agree that the metaverse must be tied to the blockchain in some way. With that distinction, it’s possible to differentiate between the two. Metaverse cryptocurrencies and ETFs Although no one can predict the future, many are making big bets on the future of the metaverse. For example, Mark Zuckerberg from Meta is pushing the company’s direction and investment deeper into the metaverse. In 2021 alone, Meta spent $10 billion dollars designing its own metaverse. That’s an immense amount of capital to invest in the future of the metaverse. The company envisions profits at the end of the tunnel in the form of a platform where creators buy and sell digital products. As major companies, like Meta, move towards the metaverse, there are more opportunities to include exposure to the metaverse in your investment portfolio. One example includes Fidelity’s FMET ETF, which includes exposure to Alphabet, Apple, Nintendo, Meta, and more. Is Metaverse real estate worth anything? If you are looking at the metaverse as a digital real estate investment opportunity, you aren’t alone. Many investors consider the metaverse the next frontier in real estate investing. If the idea of digital locations entirely online comes to fruition, digital real estate could provide an opportunity for creators to build an income stream by selling to others in the metaverse. For example, you could purchase a piece of digital real estate and sell tickets to virtual events or sell digital art for those within the metaverse to enjoy. There are a lot of different opportunities to find your footing in the metaverse, and it’s possible that more and more platforms will appear, hoping to get you involved. What’s unclear still is which platforms will become the most popular. And because of that, it can be challenging to determine what real estate in the metaverse will be worth a significant amount in the future. Many are looking to platforms with market caps as those with the most potential upside. Decentraland and The Sandbox both have market caps in the billions that offer an encouraging opportunity for some investors. A cap on the number of parcels introduces an upper limit for the supply. So, if demand increases for this digital real estate, the price for a parcel will likely increase. Before you jump into any digital real estate investments, it’s worth pointing out that these assets come with extreme risk. Although it’s possible for real estate in the metaverse to grow in value, a decline in value is also possible. With that, this opportunity is most enticing for those with a high risk tolerance. If you are unable or unwilling to meet the high risk demanded from this investment, then it’s likely not the right option for your investment portfolio. Bottom Line The metaverse isn’t just a buzzword. It’s facilitating a new way for people to interact on the internet, manifesting now in gaming and social platforms. If you want to add exposure to this new type of asset into your investment portfolio, it can take some time to get up to speed on all the ins and outs of the industry. Fashion and apparel brands, like Nike, have also launched right in on the Metaverse – Nikeland has drawn in users with more than just digitally remastered shopping experiences, tapping top talent like LeBron James for appearances. This is likely to be the next wave of the Metaverse, where lifestyle takes on entirely new meaning.
