Yup Bucs vs Aints. There it is. Stupidity of the highest order ensues. We are just never good enough to make the plays here. I’m numb to it. I laugh but just find myself in awe each time. How will the Bucs eff it up. Oh flub a basic snap a la USF last night. Gotcha. That’s good. Looking great O Line. Barely hanging on by a thread and getting mutilated in the run game. I’ll stick an effing fork on us in N.O. We are for some reason incapable of the most basic functioning football tasks. Alright off to see more who knows what. BucsBro Says: September 18th, 2022 at 1:22 pm Come on Hainsey! Offense has the right formula. Using the run to set up the pass, and using short passes. None of the Risk It, Biscuit stuff. We are going to throw 1st down away every time. cmurda Says: September 18th, 2022 at 1:23 pm It doesn’t matter who’s actual fault it is. That doesn’t happen. This O Line has got to be better than they should be. That is just basic stuff. No chance against a great defense with that ridiculousness. Ethereum Merge Hard Forks Reveal Competing Proof-Of-Work Projects – Decrypt https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ethereum-merge-hard-forks-reveal-competing-proof-of-work-projects-decrypt/ The Ethereum merge removed the network’s reliance on miners without a hitch, but the path forward for those that decided to stay with proof of work is not crystal clear. Many Ethereum miners who wanted to keep mining joined a prominent faction led by Chandler Guo to create ETHPoW and ETHW. While their hard fork hit some speed bumps, it’s running and trading at $5.26, down 35% in the past 24 hours as of this writing, according to CoinMarketCap. But before there was ETHPoW, there was EthereumFair, another faction committed to preserving the proof-of-work model for Ethereum with ETF, formerly ETHF. But EthereumFair has garnered only a fraction of the attention of EthereumPoW. EthereumFair claims on Twitter that it was the first PoW token to become forked from Ethereum. The account, which was created in January 2020, has about 14 thousand followers. Despite a two year head start, that’s less than the Twitter account for EthPoW, which amassed just over 15 thousand followers since it was created in July. EthereumFair is led by a group of Chinese miners, with its core documentation provided in the Chinese language. Only this weekend did organizers focus on creating Telegram groups for different languages. Welcome to establish telegram groups in various languages, we will give incentives and support. — EthereumFair(#ETF) #ETHPOW #ETHEREUMPOW (@EthereumFair) September 17, 2022 According to EthereumFair’s block explorer, ETF has 6.7 million total transactions and 1.8 million wallet addresses. The currency is currently trading at $6.43, down 30% in the past 24 hours as of this writing, according to CoinMarketCap. By comparison, ETHW has logged 1.7 billion total transactions, with tokens held in 86.3 million addresses. Meanwhile, Ethereum Classic, created back in 2015 during a separate fork, saw its hash rate spike following the merge as miners transitioned over to mining that currency as well, according to 2miners.com. The most prominent exchange backer of ETF was Poloniex, which first announced that it would support EthereumFair “based on the market situation, consensus of users and the community.” Poloniex, which also renamed ETHF to ETF, subsequently added ETHW support as well. Users that purchase ETF on Poloniex won’t have to pay any fees if they’re exchanging Tron’s USDD stablecoin for the cryptocurrency, which doesn’t apply to purchases made with other stablecoins including Tether’s USDT or Ethereum. The exchange ranks 23rd on CoinMarketCap’s list of top exchanges, seeing $32 million in trading volume over the past 24 hours. The coin is also currently being traded on crypto exchanges Huobi and BitCoke. Among the exchanges trading ETHW are OKX, XT.COM, Deepcoin, Bybit, and CoinW. Hurricane Fiona Causing catastrophic Flooding In Puerto Rico As The Territory Remains Without Power CNN

Hurricane Fiona Causing ‘catastrophic’ Flooding In Puerto Rico As The Territory Remains Without Power – CNN https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hurricane-fiona-causing-catastrophic-flooding-in-puerto-rico-as-the-territory-remains-without-power-cnn/ (CNN)Hurricane Fiona made landfall along the extreme southwestern coast of Puerto Rico, near Punta Tocon, at 3:20 p.m. ET Sunday with winds of 85 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The hurricane is already causing catastrophic flooding as it moves just west of Puerto Rico and heads for the Dominican Republic, the center said in a 5 p.m. update. The hurricane center is forecasting 12 to 18 inches of rainfall with a local maximum of 30 inches, particularly across eastern and southern Puerto Rico. Four to 8 inches of rainfall is expected for northern and eastern parts of the Dominican Republic, with a local maximum of 12 inches possible along the northeast coast. “These rains will produce life-threatening and catastrophic flash and urban flooding across Puerto Rico and the eastern Dominican Republic, along with mudslides and landslides in areas of higher terrain,” the hurricane center said. All of Puerto Rico lost power earlier Sunday, according to PowerOutage.us, as the Category 1 storm approached the islands. Many rivers on the eastern side of the territory are in moderate to major flood stage. One river in the southeast has risen over 12 feet in less than seven hours and is now over 25 feet, breaking the previous record of 24.79 feet set in 2017 during Hurricane Maria. Hurricane Fiona is the third of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season and forecast to become a major hurricane — a storm of Category 3 or higher — in about 48 hours, east of the Bahamas. Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach portions of the Dominican Republic within the next few hours and then in the Turks and Caicos Islands and portions of the southeastern Bahamas by early Tuesday. The government of the Bahamas issued a tropical storm warning for the Turks and Caicos and for the Southeastern Bahamas, including the Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay, the Inaguas, Mayaguana and the Ragged Islands. The storm’s impacts have already been felt: At least one death has been reported in Basse-Terre in the French territory of Guadeloupe, according to the vice president of the territory’s environmental agency, who said the capital had been devastated by flooding. Puerto Rico without power as hurricane lashes the islands Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Pierluisi confirmed the territory-wide outage in a tweet, noting the entire electric system was out of service and officials have activated the proper protocols to work to restore power. The Authority of Electric Energy and LUMA Energy, which operates Puerto Rico’s power grid, continue to work on the island-wide power outage that is impacting nearly 1.5 million customers, according to Pierluisi. The blackout — which followed hours of progressively worsening power outages — comes five years after Puerto Rico’s power grid was devastated by Hurricane Maria in September 2017, leaving many residents without electricity for months. But officials have stressed it won’t be like last time: Not long before the lights went out, Abner Gomez, head of public safety and crisis management at LUMA Energy, said utility authorities plan to repair and restore electricity with the help of local government agencies. “This is not Maria, this hurricane will not be Maria,” Gomez said. President Joe Biden on Sunday morning approved an emergency declaration for Puerto Rico, freeing up federal resources, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, for emergency response and disaster relief efforts. There are over 300 FEMA responders on the ground working “hand and glove” with the commonwealth and their emergency management structure, Anne Bink, FEMA’s Assistant Administrator for Response and Recovery, told CNN Sunday. “Our heart goes out to the residents that are again going through another catastrophic event five years later,” Bink said, noting Fiona has hit close to Hurricane Maria’s five-year anniversary. Bink said that FEMA’s response is dual focused, including emergency generation and power missions for critical facilities and ensuring command and control structure is in place for things like search and rescue, emergency power generations and long-term needs once the island moves into recovery. Fiona’s winds are expected to increase along the immediate coastline, while conditions are forecast to deteriorate throughout Sunday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service’s office in San Juan. Already, authorities have responded to one landslide: Emergency officials responded Saturday evening to a landslide around 8 p.m. ET at an apartment complex in Guaynabo, according to fire and public safety officials. There were no initial reports of injuries. Around 120 shelters with 25,000 cots have been opened for those in need, the governor said. Classes Monday have been canceled and government workers — save emergency workers — should stay home, too. A hurricane warning — indicating hurricane conditions are expected — was issued for Puerto Rico, including the islands of Vieques and Culebra, and later expanded to include the eastern Dominican Republic from Cabo Caucedo to Cabo Frances Viejo. The Dominican Republic’s northern coast, from Cabo Frances Viejo west to Puerto Plata, were under a hurricane watch Sunday morning, meaning hurricane conditions are possible in the next 48 hours. CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam contributed to this report.

2023: Yakubu Assures On Appropriate Technology Deployment – – The Tide https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/2023-yakubu-assures-on-appropriate-technology-deployment-the-tide/ Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has tasked states and local government councils across the nation to intensify and step up efforts to avert flood related disasters in their domains. The Director General, NIHSA, Clement Nze,  in a statement issued on Friday, said the flooding situation still persists following the continued buildup of Rivers Niger and Benue system. NIHSA reminded Nigerians that the country is at the lowest point of River Niger Basin, explaining that once the upper catchment of the Basin gets flooded, Nigeria should be prepared to experience flooding. It added that, “As at Friday, 16th September, 2022, the flow of River Niger at Niamey, Niger Republic, upstream of Nigeria, is within the normal limits”. On the River Benue Basin, however, NIHSA said the release of excess water from Lagdo dam, which started on Tuesday, 13th September, 2022, will be a continuous process till the inflow into the Lagdo reservoirs recedes. According to the agency, the water releases from Lagdo dam has contributed to the increase in volume of flow of River Benue and its tributaries; such as River Faro and Mayo Belwa which in turn contributed to the recent flooding in some parts of Wuroboki, Yola, Jimeta, Numan and Madagali in Adamawa State “Therefore, NIHSA wishes to inform the State Governors, Public and Stakeholders alike that the situation at the country’s inland reservoirs (Kainji, Jebba, and shiroro) and the Lagdo Dam, present a likelihood of River flooding between now and October ending. “Hence, the need to put in place adequate measures and enhanced preparedness to mitigate any eventual flooding, particularly, in all the states and communities that are on the main course of Rivers Niger and Benue System, namely: kebbi, Niger, Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Cross river, Rivers and Bayelsa”, it appealed.

Zulu, whose birth name is Ahmed Obafemi, walked into Fulton County Jail to turn himself in Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Police Department. He was arrested the same day and charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during certain crimes, and simple battery. The 52-year-old was released after paying his bond of $200,000, according to jail records. R. A man was killed and another man was also injured in the incident. (AP Photo/John Amis, File) John Amis/AP Police reported that three men, including Zulu, were shot on June 26 during an altercation outside a strip mall in Atlanta. Artez Benton, 23, died of his injuries at a nearby hospital after being shot by Zulu. “A close review of all of the evidence, including the surveillance footage and eyewitness interviews, reveals that Mr. Zulu was attacked and jumped from behind by a gang of at least four individuals (sadly including the decedent) and was forced to defend himself after this gang repeatedly stomped, punched, and kicked him while he was on the ground in a defenseless posture,” Zulu’s attorney, Gabe Banks, wrote in a statement. “It is not lost on Mr. Zulu that someone lost his life, but had Mr. Zulu not lawfully defended himself, Mr. Zulu would have been killed that night.” Banks, a managing partner at law firm Banks Weaver, is citing self-defense as Zulu’s justification for the shooting. Zelenskyy Promises No lull In Taking Back Ukrainian Towns 69News WFMZ-TV
Zelenskyy Promises No lull In Taking Back Ukrainian Towns 69News WFMZ-TV
Zelenskyy Promises No ‘lull’ In Taking Back Ukrainian Towns – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/zelenskyy-promises-no-lull-in-taking-back-ukrainian-towns-69news-wfmz-tv/ KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised his country there would be no letup in the counteroffensive that has reclaimed towns and cities from Russian troops, as shelling continued Sunday across a wide stretch of Ukraine. Zelenskyy ran through a list of towns that Ukraine has taken back in its lightning push across the northeast. “Maybe now it seems to some of you that after a series of victories we have a certain lull,” he said in his nightly video address. “But this is not a lull. This is preparation for the next series… Because Ukraine must be free — all of it.” Ukraine’s military command said its forces secured the eastern bank of the Oskil River on Saturday. The river, which flows south from Russia into Ukraine, had been a natural break in the newly emerged front lines since Kyiv’s counteroffensive began. As Russian shells hit towns and cities over the weekend, the British defense ministry warned that Moscow is likely to increase attacks on civilian targets as it suffers battlefield defeats. “In the last seven days, Russia has increased its targeting of civilian infrastructure even where it probably perceives no immediate military effect,” the ministry said in an online briefing. “As it faces setbacks on the front lines, Russia has likely extended the locations it is prepared to strike in an attempt to directly undermine the morale of the Ukrainian people and government.” Russian fire killed four medics attempting to evacuate a psychiatric hospital in the Kharkiv region on Saturday, said governor Oleh Syniehubov. Two patients were wounded in the attack in Strelecha, he said. Overnight shelling also hit a hospital in Mykolaiv, a significant Black Sea port, regional governor Vitaliy Kim said. And five people had died over the past day in Russian attacks in the Donetsk region, one of two Ukrainian regions that Russia recognizes as sovereign states, governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said. The separatist forces that control much of Donetsk said Ukrainian shelling of a prisoner-of-war colony in Olenivka killed one prisoner and injured four. More than 50 POWs were reported killed in a July attack on the Olenivka prison; Russian and Ukrainian authorities blame each other. A Washington-based think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, said Russian forces in Donetsk continue to conduct “meaningless operations” on villages as opposed to reinforcing the front line. A top Vatican envoy and his entourage came under fire as they were distributing humanitarian supplies in Ukraine, the Vatican news service said on Sunday. It reported no injuries. The incident took place near the city of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, and forced Vatican Almoner Cardinal Konrad Krajewski and others to take cover. “For the first time in my life, I didn’t know where to run. Because it is not enough to run, you have to know where to go,” said the Polish-born cardinal, whose office makes charitable contributions in the pope’s name. Three people were wounded in nighttime shelling of Nikopol, across the river from Europe’s largest nuclear power station, said regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko. The six-reactor Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was captured by Russian forces in March, but is operated by Ukrainian engineers. Its last reactor was switched off a week ago after repeated power failures because shelling put crucial safety systems at risk. Meanwhile, prosecutors in Kharkiv are accusing Russia of torturing civilians in one village that was recently freed. In an online statement, they said they found a basement where Russian forces allegedly tortured prisoners in Kozacha Lopan, near the border with Russia. In images they released, they showed a Russian military TA-57 telephone with additional wires and alligator clips attached to it. Ukrainian officials have accused Russian forces of using the Soviet-era radio telephones as a power source to shock prisoners during interrogation. It was not immediately possible to verify the Ukrainians’ claims. Follow AP’s coverage of the war at https://apnews.com/hub/russia-ukraine Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Is Back – Details And Where To Watch – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/dont-hug-me-im-scared-is-back-details-and-where-to-watch-cbr-comic-book-resources/ Few YouTube videos have the staying power that Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared does. From the first video’s release on YouTube in 2011, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared (referred to colloquially as DHMIS) made a reputation for itself by appearing – on the surface – to be a spoof of children’s television shows like the American Sesame Street or British Fingerbobs. Its bright colors and cheerful song about ”being creative” quickly descended into gory carnage for seemingly no reason at all, but this juxtaposition of the innocent and the horrific is what gave DHMIS its online cult status. Subsequent episodes had the same formula, and bore hours upon hours of analyses on YouTube and Reddit. DHMIS creators Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling have long wanted their series to make the jump into television. The six existing episodes, released from 2011 to 2016, were entirely crowd-funded which is why they took so long to produce. But in 2018, Sloan and Pelling announced via the teaser ”Wakey Wakey” that DHMIS was making the jump to television, with funding from heavy-hitters Blink Industries, Conaco and Super Deluxe. The new series showed its pilot at Sundance Film Festival in 2019 before getting picked up by Channel 4 for six episodes in 2020. After six years of waiting, longtime fans of DHMIS will finally get to see those six episodes on Sept. 23. The History of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared DHMIS began life as a standalone video, but its runaway success and induction into the metaphoric Internet hall of fame for its shocking, surreal visuals quickly spawned five sequels. The main medium of the series was, and still is, puppetry with some animated and live-action elements – owing to Sloan’s background in fine arts and Pelling’s in animation. In fact, they met during art school and joined the This Is It Collective, who helped produce the initial viral video. The wild success of the first video, uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo ”on a whim,” led to an invitation from Sundance and financial backing from British-based Channel 4’s Random Acts to make more. The series has a reputation for being remarkably well-produced and high-quality despite its lack of corporate backing or sponsorships. Subsequent episodes took on the same storyline as the original: the three main puppets, known in the fandom as Red Guy, Duck and Yellow Guy, all sit around in their home and a question about the time or researching led to a visit from a ”teacher” character, who delivered a lesson in song format. Children’s shows often follow this format, with the protagonists and teachers joining in a song together to learn about different aspects of the world and relationships. The six existing episodes include songs about creativity, time, love, computers, healthy eating and dreams before they turn into a bloody, terrifying nightmare with the protagonists getting dissected (or in one case, eating each other). The reasoning for puppets and the spoof on children’s television programming is quite simple: the creators have a background and interest in both subjects, and wanted to incorporate it into their art. But any discussion about DHMIS‘ impact on online spaces and legacy would be remiss if it excluded what made it such a fixation in the years between releases. The seemingly meaningless spiral into carnage and gore every episode despite its candy-colored, infantile aesthetic gave birth to endless theorizing and discussion about what DHMIS is about. The most popular and well-known theory by far is dubbed ”the media theory” in online spaces, cropping up in 2013 and popularized by FilmTheory on YouTube. The media theory argues that Sloan and Pelling are attempting to tell a story about how the media brainwashes viewers – especially children – into certain political or social beliefs and being hostile towards critiques or questioning. Inside A Mind posits another theory that’s gaining traction in DHMIS fan spaces: that the series is a metaphor for growing up and learning to let go of childhood. The speculation about DHMIS‘ ”deeper meaning” – if art can have a deeper or objective meaning at all – in conjunction with Sloan and Pelling’s reluctance to give an answer to that question is no doubt part of why the series has such a hold on the Internet. DHMIS‘ transition to television might mark the end of the ever-popular media theory, given that a big part of the media theory centers around creators “selling out” to media corporations and losing authenticity. Where to Watch Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared DHMIS‘ six new episodes will stream exclusively through Channel 4’s on-demand service All 4 starting Sept. 23. However, fans living outside the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland aren’t so lucky – viewers need an address in one of the two countries to sign up for All 4. There’s no word yet if the series will ever get released on YouTube or Vimeo like past episodes of DHMIS, which is one of the more tragic consequences of the series getting more funding. As for what the series will be about, details are scant but its Sundance description from 2019 offers a clue for what the pilot, at least, entails: ”In the small town community of Clayhill, roommates Red Guy, Yellow Guy and Duck live simple, uneventful lives – until Mayor Pigface disappears.” It’s uncertain if the new series will tangibly connect back to the YouTube episodes, but it’s safe to assume that it will take place in the same universe, perhaps in between the other episodes or as a prequel. The new episodes will, without a doubt, spark interest in the cult classic again and reinvigorate an already active, dedicated fanbase once more – and hopefully lead to more Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared in the future. You can catch Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared exclusively on Sept. 23 through All 4.

Lyon Vs. PSG Result: Early Lionel Messi Goal Somehow All Parisians Need To Reclaim Top Ligue 1 Spot – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/lyon-vs-psg-result-early-lionel-messi-goal-somehow-all-parisians-need-to-reclaim-top-ligue-1-spot-sporting-news/ PSG moved back in possession of first place in Ligue 1, but it took an absolute war to get there as they hang on for a 1-0 victory over Lyon, with Lionel Messi’s sixth-minute opener as the game’s only goal. It’s baffling how the game ended just 1-0, with both sides having numerous chances on the opposition goal. Alexandre Lacazette had the best chance for the hosts to equalize, missing a wide-open header in the first half that he should have deposited in the back of the net. PSG also had a number of opportunities to add to the lead, but Anthony Lopes stood tall to deny Messi a second, while Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were also turned away. Thiago Mendes was also stellar for Lyon, producing a number of goal-denying blocks and tackles throughout the second half. The final result proves that PSG can battle with the best that Ligue 1 has to offer, and a result of this kind is a boost to Christophe Galtier as he fights not just Europe’s best clubs but also the internal strife and head-butting that has so often brought PSG down in the past. Today, it was the Parisians who rose above the adversity to come away with all three points. There was one downside to the victory, however, as PSG lost midfield maestro Marco Verratti to a second-half injury. It appeared to be his knee he was favoring around the hour mark, and the Parisians will be sweating his health boasting very little midfield depth. MORE: How PSG came from behind to beat Maccabi Haifa The Sporting News will be following the match live and providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen. Lyon vs. PSG final score   1H 2H Final Lyon 0 0 0 PSG 1 0 1 Goals: 6th min — PSG — Lionel Messi Lyon vs. PSG post-match analysis PSG show ability to shove adversity aside in gritty battle On another day, the visitors at Groupama Stadium would have collapsed under the pressure and adversity. Anthony Lopes was a monster in the Lyon goal, and the combo of Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar were struggling to get by him and the monstrous Thiago Mendes. Add in the Verratti injury, and it was a recipe for a typical PSG collapse. Instead, today, PSG held firm, showing a grit and toughness that they’ve not necessarily always displayed the past few years. It’s a good sign that PSG could boast an additional toughness in Champions League play, where they’ve typically crumbled under the slightest sign of adversity in the past. Verratti injury a major worry for Galtier and PSG Marco Verratti, at 29 years old, remains one of the five best midfielders in the world. The Italian has proven time and again this young season that he remains in his prime, today delivering 88 of 92 passes successfully plus a completed tackle and a successful dribble in an hour of work. Unfortunately, he was a gimpy mess by his withdrawal in the 64th minute, holding his knee and unable to continue. With the departure of Leandro Paredes on loan to Juventus in the summer transfer window, that leaves just Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz left as top-class No. 8 midfielders on the PSG roster. Carlos Soler is with the squad on loan from Valencia but expecting him to replace the Italian is a major ask, while Renato Sanches is hurt and Warren Zaire-Emery is just 16 years old. The loss of Verratti could be a major problem for Galtier as he pushes forward into the heart of the Champions League schedule. It would be a worry for Italy too just weeks before the start of the World Cup, but, you know… Lyon vs. PSG live updates, highlights, commentary FULL-TIME: Lyon 0-1 PSG It’s utterly mind-blowing that this game has ended at 1-0. Lionel Messi’s early opener somehow holds up the entirety of the match, despite both teams peppering the opposition goal. Interestingly, the expected goals back up the final scoreline somewhat, as it ends 0.99 for Lyon and 1.09 for PSG. The hosts probably should have found the back of the net, but it also felt like Anthony Lopes did well to deny the visitors another. For a game with 27 total shots between the two teams, a final scoreline featuring one lone goal is stunning. Credit PSG for their grit in seeing this one out! 90+1 min: With four minutes of added time coming, Vitinha earns a dangerous set-piece opportunity for PSG as he’s fouled at the top of the box following a fabulously creative pass from Achraf Hakimi. On the delivery… Chance, PSG! WOW!!! This game!! Messi’s free-kick is a stunner, and it clangs into the corner of the post, or maybe Lopes got a touch on it. Either way, it’s somehow kept out. The ball falls to Sergio Ramos at the goal mouth, and he slams it into the open net with the goalkeeper down, but he’s flagged for offside. HOW is this game still 1-0?! 86nd min: Galtier takes off Neymar for Carlos Soler, who comes on hoping to get the service to kill off the game, and contribute defensively as well. 78th min: Chance, PSG! Lopes denies Messi! Both teams trading blows! Messi goes for a similar effort to his early goal, a low curler inside the left post, but this time the OL goalkeeper is there to make an acrobatic stop. Moments later, Mendes has to make yet another sliding stop, his third of the match, to stop a Neymar shot. It’s still 1-0, but how, we’ll never know! Thiago Mendes was being crucified before this game, but he’s been excellent tonight. A couple of really vital blocks to keep OL competitive at 1-0. — Robin Bairner (@RBairner) September 18, 2022 77th min: Chance, Lyon! Somehow, the game isn’t level! Donnarumma goes down low to stop a cross, but he can’t handle it. The ball pops up for Toko Ekambi, whose header is denied by Marquinhos leaping into the air for the block. The ball bobbles around in the penalty area, and is eventually cleared. A nervy moment for the hosts! It’s stunning that Messi’s early goal is the only strike of this match. 75th min: Lyon makes a double change, with Tete removed in favor of Rayan Cherki, while Jeff Reine-Adelaide comes on to take the place of Maxence Caqueret. Tete in particular was poor, not involved in any of Lyon’s ventures forward. 72nd min: Chance, PSG! How has Neymar not scored?!?!? The goal is GAPING and somehow he puts his first-time shot in range of Lopes who makes a stunning save, leaping from his spot at the near post. Neymar’s chance came on a cutback from Nuno, who continues to cook down the left. That should have been the game-killer, can Lyon take advantage of the mistake? Messi está jogando o fino da bola nessa temporada. Não será o Messi de 4, 5 anos atrás, mas desequilibra muito. — Arthur Quezada (@ArthurQuezada) September 18, 2022 69th min: A couple of stunning last-ditch tackles from Thiago Mendes are the only thing standing in the way of a second PSG goal, the most recent of which dispossesses Nuno Mendes on the edge of the penalty area. Then Lopes has to punch away a cross from that flank moments later. It feels that the visitors are beginning to gain the advantage, and a second could be coming… 61st min: Marco Verratti appears to be struggling with an injury. He was swarmed at the top of the Lyon box a few minutes prior, and replays showed he came out of the tussle holding the back of his leg. Instead of collapsing to the ground, he’s gutting it out for a few minutes, and now he goes down once the ball goes out of play. Galtier used his midfield substitute already, just minutes earlier, so it’s Nordi Mukiele who will come on. We’ll have to see how the formation is situated, but likely Mukiele will go into defense while Danilo pushes forward into midfield. The loss of Verratti is a brutal blow in midfield, especially after the departure of Leandro Paredes. 57th min: The game has gone back and forth early in the second half, but neither side has unlocked the opposition defense since the Messi chance. PSG will make a chance, with Fabian Ruiz replaced by Vitinha. It’s a like-for-like change, with Galtier hoping to inject energy and fresh legs into the visiting midfield. 47th min: Chance, PSG! Just after the restart, PSG are into the attack down the left, and it’s cleared off the line! Messi sends the goalkeeper to ground with a fake shot, then looks to chip into the net, but there is 19-year-old Castello Lukeba to head the ball away right on the goal line! What a start to the half! And what a move by Messi to send the goalkeeper and a defender to the ground with his fake. He’s only foiled by the young defender on the goal line. Messi il avait avalé le gardien et le défenseur en une mini feinte — Sam’s (@SamsOfficiel) September 18, 2022 46th min: Back under way for the second half. Hosts make a change, with former Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso withdrawn in favor for Johann Lepenant. It’s a surprising move, as Tolisso was solid in the first half, helping Lyon present a stiff test to the PSG midfield as the half drew on. Maybe an injury? HALFTIME: Lyon 0-1 PSG The visitors got off to a perfect start, with Lionel Messi delivering a sixth-minute opener, but it was a war after that. Lyon had a great spell of attacking possession around the half-hour mark, and were unlucky to come away empty-handed. Lacazette was bright up front, but missed his best opportunity. We’re in store for an intriguing second-half in a game where the next goal will be pivotal. 5 – Lionel Messi and Neymar have given each other five assists in Ligue 1 this season, more than any other duo. Bromance. #OLPSG pic.twitter.com/vfKkC1rkwd — OptaJean (@OptaJean) September 18, 2022 39th min: Marco Verratti earns his customary yellow card after he scythes down Malo Gusto. It’s a clear yellow, but the Italian is furious that a foul wasn’t called on a tackle of Neymar moments earlier. Verratti’s hack appeared to be a bit of retalia...

Tamas Kadar: CEO At SEON Comments On Fraud In The Metaverse, Latest NFT, Fintech Trends – Crowdfund Insider – Crowdfund Insider https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/tamas-kadar-ceo-at-seon-comments-on-fraud-in-the-metaverse-latest-nft-fintech-trends-crowdfund-insider-crowdfund-insider/ We recently connected with Tamas Kadar, CEO and co-founder at SEON., which aims to harness the power of AI to protect your business from fraud, get a 360° view of customers, and increase conversion rates. Kadar talked about the latest issues involving e-commerce fraud. His company just closed a $94 million Series B round in April and is focused on expanding their fraud prevention services for U.S. businesses. During our conversation, Tamas talked about fraud in the Metaverse, the latest in crypto-related developments, NFTs, blockchain & fraud, and BNPL fraud. Our discussion with Tamas Kadar is shared below. Crowdfund Insider: Crypto exchanges are already considered high risk. What are some ways companies are combating crypto exchange fraud? Tamas Kadar: At SEON, we understand the risks of cryptocurrency exchange fraud better than most. Along with my co-founder, Bence Jendruszak, I started a cryptocurrency exchange some years ago, while at university. Not long after, the exchange was targeted by fraudsters, which led to us building the first iteration of what would later become SEON. In the years since, crypto exchange fraud has become even more rife. For the most part, fraudsters use stolen credit card numbers to purchase cryptocurrencies, which triggers chargeback requests from the legitimate cardholder. Fraudsters also use fake IDs to bypass any KYC checks that might otherwise stop them. Crypto exchange platforms need to have protocols in place, which allow them to: ● Safely onboard genuine users ● Process fiat payments to buy crypto ● Secure storage and transactions One of the best ways to do this is to improve the ID & verification techniques within the sign-up process. However, it’s important to do this in a way that doesn’t add friction to the customer journey. This is often easier said than done, especially as crypto users tend to not like giving away personal data as it goes against some of the sector’s core principles. That’s where data enrichment tools come in. Such tools allow crypto exchanges to get more info about their customers, without having to ask for it. Data enrichment solutions, such as the one we offer at SEON, allow companies to get a full picture of who their users are before they sign up, and in doing so, can identify risky actors before they’re able to commit fraud. Crowdfund Insider: How is the metaverse creating new forms of fraud and deception? Tamas Kadar: There is always a new opportunity to scam, and fraudsters are always ready to figure out how – especially when it involves a monetary transaction. As such, the metaverse offers an abundance of potential new avenues for fraud. Primarily, many metaverse solutions are vulnerable as they’re unable to stop people establishing more than one account. Having multiple accounts on a metaverse platform allows fraudsters to take advantage of ‘free credit’, discounts or money back promotions designed for new users. Simply put, this may seem like an easy and even innocent loophole, but setting up multiple accounts to benefit from promotions is still fraud. Likewise, metaverse platforms must watch out for influencer fraud, which has previously affected social media platforms, like Twitter. This type of fraud can result in people following fraudulent links or entering sensitive data to enter promotions they believe to be endorsed by trusted or well-known, established users. Crowdfund Insider: New tech brings opportunistic bad actors. What are the risks of NFT fraud and how do you stop it? Tamas Kadar: It’s still only early days in the world of NFTs, but you’re beginning to see the size and scope of the nascent sector’s fraud problem. NFT fraud can take many forms, whether it’s people minting artwork they have no legal ownership of, to laundering money through fake NFT sales. Sadly, there’s no ‘silver’ bullet solution on offer to fix all of these issues. Preventing NFT fraud requires action from all involved parties. For one, end users need to become even more aware about the risks of fraud and ensure they’re always doing their due diligence before purchasing NFTs. Similarly, companies dealing with NFTs should look to refortify fraud prevention protocols to ensure they’re getting the best protection. In practice, this can mean layering existing defence systems with things like two-factor authentication and machine learning to boot out inauthentic users, bots and high-risk ‘online personalities’. As with the metaverse, enabling browser and device fingerprinting can also make a huge difference in aiding this effort. Crowdfund Insider: Why is money laundering a problem in crypto? Tamas Kadar: It’s a big problem, and cryptocurrency firms are now under increasing pressure to meet new anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. If they fail to do so, companies in the sector are liable for big fines, legal issues, and damage to their business reputation. The good news is that transaction monitoring solutions now offer a way to mitigate the risk. Full end-to-end fraud tools, like that provided by SEONallow companies in the crypto space to monitor user and transaction data. In turn, this data can be logged, scored via fraud detection risk rules, and used to decide if a business should flag the account as a potential risk, before automating next steps. In fact, our solution is able to check an individual’s digital footprint in real time, analyzing more than 50 social and online platforms to ensure new accounts can be verified effectively. Crowdfund Insider: BNPL is attracting the attention of cybercriminals and fraudsters. What is the best way for merchants to reduce the risk of BNPL fraud? Tamas Kadar: BNPL companies inherently take a risk with every new customer they onboard. Like with crypto, fraud in this area can take many forms, but there are some simple measures, which can be implemented to reduce its success. As with everything else, gathering data during the onboarding stage makes fraud prevention swifter and simpler. Most BNPL companies probably already perform basic KYC checks and fast credit scoring. However, it’s important to move to more robust tools like device fingerprinting, IP address checks and velocity rules. I’d also recommend that companies take advantage of digital footprint analysis, which allows them to find out a wealth of information without any additional friction. Finally, considering recent measures, it’s probably now time for companies to go even further and to utilise data enrichment solutions to help them build more complete pictures of users, without adding extra friction to the onboarding process. In doing so, companies are able to get more information about their customers from basic points of information.

A new liquid metal called chrome has entered Fortnite and infected some of the guns. The first gun ruined, or enhanced, by chrome is the EvoChrome Shotgun. The EvoChrome Shotgun has a wide-spread shot but is very powerful at close range. Next up is the EvoChrome Burst Rifle. This new rifle is a two-shot burst weapon that, like the shotgun, can be devastating if you land your shots. Both the EvoChrome Shotgun and the EvoChrome Burst Rifle have the ability to evolve, or become upgraded versions of themselves, with use. All you need to do to upgrade these weapons is deal damage to opponents and get kills with the weapon, which will also help you grind XP. ApeCoin (APE) Shows Signs Of Recovery But Mini-Rally Could Be Short-Lived NewsBTC
ApeCoin (APE) Shows Signs Of Recovery, But Mini-Rally Could Be Short-Lived – NewsBTC https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/apecoin-ape-shows-signs-of-recovery-but-mini-rally-could-be-short-lived-newsbtc/ ApeCoin has had a long and complex history. When it was first released on March 17, it was immediately put to the test by the same market forces that were responsible for the general crypto market’s slump. The coin’s price has broken through the resistance of a head-and-shoulders pattern, rising to a new all-time high of $5.63. This may portend an impending upswing, but technical signs are pointing in the opposite direction. Overall, both bulls and bears have been able to make little gains in APE coin, making the overall trend neutral. There is a double bottom pattern on the coin as well. This pattern could foretell a continuation of the current downward trend. ApeCoin: Robust Buy Signals Likely However, this downward tendency has not materialized, yet. The current APE coin mini-rally may be a short-lived upsurge following the decline that began on September 13. There have been double bottoms and single bottom reversals in the price of APE coin recently. Bearish feeling among investors can only be reversed if the price is able to sustain itself at the 78.60 percent fib level. The result may be more robust buy signals for market participants. We anticipate that APE’s price will rise when the crypto market recovers alongside the broader financial sector. And that’s if the cryptocurrency market can ignore the impending bad CPI news and interest rate increase. The value of alternative cryptocurrencies like APE coin is highly correlated with Bitcoin’s market price. This coefficient is now at 0.73 as of this writing. A high degree of correlation between the two currencies indicates this. Short-Term Performance: Finding Support  The short-term performance of the ApeCoin is “acceptable,” but only with access to real-time data. As of this writing, the cryptocurrency is trading above the 78.60 Fib level and attempting to find support there. Taking the coin’s track record into account, this may just be a momentary victory. The APE coin’s value will rise as a result of a general uptick in the economy and financial markets. Critical aid can be found between $4.24 and $4.60. Both the price drops and price increases that the coin has seen have been maintained and sustained by these two factors. The $4.60 support level is where the price can find a floor before falling to the $4.24 area. However, the recovery of APE coin may fail if bears also break through the $4.24 support. However, recent market data indicates that APE currency is showing signs of recovery. At the 1-hour time frame, the coin has firmly established above the 78.60 fib level. As the cost levels off, dealers and investors may gain confidence. Chuck Schumer wants another $12 billion in US aid for Ukraine — saying Sunday that the massive amount is necessary to help defeat Russia “during this critical moment of Ukrainian momentum.” The New York Democrat and Senate leader said he will push to include the additional money in an upcoming budget deal that needs to be reached by the end of the month to keep the federal government open. The move comes after Ukraine recently notched astonishing gains in its war against invader Russia. The US has sent over more than $15 billion in aid so far, but Schumer says now is the time to strike with even more American financial help. “According to all the reports, Russia’s recent retreat in northeast Ukraine was its largest military defeat since the withdrawal of Russian troops from areas near Kyiv more than five months ago, and I am here to affirm that support by the US and other allies has worked and that we must help keep this momentum going,” the senator said in a statement. “This dramatic shift in momentum for Ukraine has been fueled by our bipartisan work in Congress, and I aim to continue that in the upcoming budget we will vote on next week. “I will push to add at least $12 billion in aid for Ukraine to the budget, and I expect we’ll get the bipartisan support to see it through.” Ukrainian service members unpack Javelin anti-tank missiles, delivered by plane as part of the U.S. military support package for Ukraine. Whistleblower Claims May Not Free Elon Musk From His Twitter Hook – The Guardian https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/whistleblower-claims-may-not-free-elon-musk-from-his-twitter-hook-the-guardian/ As the Twitter whistleblower Peiter Zatko was telling US lawmakers of “egregious” security failings at the company last Tuesday, shareholders in the social media platform overwhelmingly voted to hand those problems over to someone else: Elon Musk. It is unlikely that the Tesla CEO, who owns more than 9% of Twitter and agreed to buy the company in April, was among the 99% of voting shareholders who backed that $44bn (£38.5bn) deal, given he is now determined to abandon it. A Delaware judge will decide at a trial beginning on 17 October whether Musk gets to walk away, or be forced to acquire the business on the terms that he had agreed upon. Hedge funds, financial firms that like to take big bets on certain market outcomes, also appear to be on the side of (the majority of) Twitter shareholders. David Einhorn, founder of the Greenlight Capital fund, bought a new stake in Twitter last month reflecting his view that the Delaware chancery court will “follow the law” and “apply it here” by forcing Musk to complete the deal at $54.20 (£47.46) a share. Pentwater Capital Management, a hedge fund that became a significant shareholder in Twitter this year, has also said it expects Twitter to prevail. Zatko, nonetheless, has given Musk a chance in Delaware with a whistleblower complaint that alleges a wide range of security failings at the company. In his testimony, the former head of security at Twitter, who joined in November 2020 and was fired in January this year, said he had uncovered “extreme, egregious deficiencies by Twitter in every area of his mandate” including interference by foreign governments and poor control of employee access to user data. Previously, Musk’s case had largely been relying on a claim that Twitter was deliberately underplaying the number of spam accounts – which are not operated by humans and disrupt the platform – among its monetisable daily active users (mDAU), a key commercial metric for the company. Zatko’s appearance last week could be viewed as a proxy for the testimony that really matters to Musk: a deposition to his lawyers on 9 September that will be used in the court case. The broad lines of what Musk is expected to argue were reflected in Zatko’s opening statement. “I am here today because Twitter leadership is misleading the public, lawmakers, regulators and even its own board of directors. What I discovered when I joined Twitter was that this enormously influential company was over a decade behind industry security standards,” he said. Musk has been granted permission to expand his lawsuit to include Zatko’s revelations, which he argues constitute a “company material adverse effect” that substantially alters the business’s value and therefore renders the deal invalid. Zatko also argues in his complaint that Twitter has broken the merger agreement between the company and Musk by making false representations – a statement of fact designed to reassure the counterparty in a deal – about its security arrangements and other matters. Nonetheless, experts say that Musk will still struggle to scrap the deal even with Zatko’s support. Brian Quinn, a professor at Boston College law school, says that prior to the deal being struck the company had made broad disclosures in its results about a risk of “actual or perceived” security breaches and errors or vulnerabilities in its software. “To the extent there are already broad disclosures that there are risks to the company surrounding cybersecurity and data privacy issues, the recent testimony doesn’t really add to the overall mix and certainly doesn’t cause the representation to fail,” says Quinn. Howard Fischer, a partner at US law firm Moses Singer, says Delaware courts are very wary of endorsing claims of a material adverse effect. Zatko’s complaint claims that Twitter executives are not incentivised to hunt down bot accounts and that it does not do a good enough job tackling bot accounts that lurk on the platform, although it doesn’t count them in its mDAU total. This is slightly different to Musk’s argument, a key reason for quitting the deal, which is that Twitter deliberately undercounts the number of bots in its mDAU numbers. “Twitter might be an ill-governed and poorly managed mess, but the desire to give Twitter better management was one of the reasons Musk claimed he wanted to buy the platform,” says Fischer. “And the statements about bots do not really bolster Musk’s claims. Given the extremely sceptical eye Delaware courts cast upon those claiming a material adverse effect, I doubt these will qualify.” Anat Beck, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, adds: “The bar is very high to meet a fraud or material adverse effect standard, and I do not think that we are quite there unless we find anything else.” John Coffee, a professor of law at Columbia University in New York, says any errors pointed out by Zatko can be corrected by the new owner, adding that Delaware – the state where Twitter is incorporated – is inclined to supporting agreed deals such as Musk’s. “Even if Twitter erred, Musk could correct those alleged errors without their adversely affecting the value of Twitter,” he says. “Thus, he has not been irrevocably damaged. Zatko has raised an issue that Musk does not previously seem to have cared about and whose financial impact may be minimal. Given Delaware’s strong commitment to ‘deal certainty’, I do not see this as likely to give Musk a victory. It will, however, add confusion to an already complicated case.” A settlement between both parties has always lurked in the background and Zatko’s testimony gives a slight increase in the chances of that happening, says Carl Tobias, Williams chair in law at the University of Richmond. “I think that the Zatko whistleblower complaint and judiciary committee testimony marginally strengthen certain Musk criticisms of Twitter. However, the complaint and the hearing do not show the type of material adverse effect that Musk needs to win the case. Thus, there remains a possibility that the case will settle, although Musk has a lengthy record of not settling legal disputes.”

EXPLAINER: Buhari And Osinbajo Will Be Abroad On Monday — Who Will Be In Charge Of Nigeria? – TheCable https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/explainer-buhari-and-osinbajo-will-be-abroad-on-monday-who-will-be-in-charge-of-nigeria-thecable/ President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo are currently both out of the country. While Buhari left Nigeria on Sunday for the 77th United Nations general assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA, Osinbajo has since arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of the burial ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II. The queen died on September 8. Following the news on Buhari and Osinbajo, there have been questions on who will be in charge of the country’s affairs. In 2016, the president handed over power to Osinbajo for five days when he embarked on a “short vacation”. In line with section 145 of the Nigerian constitution, Buhari informed the two chambers of the national assembly of his vacation through a letter. The development made Osinbajo acting president. This was the first time in close to 30 years that a leader of the Nigerian government would hand over power to his deputy. The last time that happened was in 1987, when Ibrahim Babangida, a former military ruler, went for a medical procedure in France. Buhari’s trip to the US for the UN general assembly will see Nigeria and other countries hold bilateral or multilateral meetings on the sidelines. These types of agreements — ranging from discussions on agriculture, climate change, oil and gas, to mention a few — are aimed at mutually benefiting the countries involved. DOES THE PRESIDENT OR VICE-PRESIDENT NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT TO GOVERN? The constitution does not expressly state that a president or vice-president has to be in the country at all times to carry out their duties. Section 145(1) of the 1999 constitution states: “Whenever the president transmits to the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the vice-president as acting president.” The aforementioned provision suggests that there is only a vacuum if the president is proceeding on vacation or is unable to discharge the duties of the office owing to ill-health or death. Buhari and Osinbajo currently do not fit the aforementioned categories, implying that they can discharge the duties of their offices from any part of the world. ‘THERE IS ONLY A VACUUM IF THE PRESIDENT TRANSMITS LETTER TO THAT EFFECT‘ Timi Olagunju, a lawyer and policy analyst, said the constitution is not specific on the president transmitting power every time he is out of the country. “The constitution does not specifically state that any travel means that the president must transmit power. That is why there is a clamour for the parliament to review the law according to global standards, because section 144 talks of incapacity, while section 145 talks of vacation or ill-health, and sticks it to the parliament. That implies transmitting the power to the vice-president as acting until he sends another letter to say he is back,” he said. “The constitution does not provide for a vacuum, except the president says there is a vacuum. The president has to transmit an official letter. There are two instances in which this section has been raised — Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari’s excessive stay in London. In the case of Goodluck, there was no transmission from Yar’Adua to him, but the parliament had to use the doctrine of necessity. “If the president does not transmit officially, there cannot be said to be a vacuum. It means by implication that the president is still acting even though he has travelled. On a lighter note, he can preside virtually. “If you say ‘every time the president travels abroad’, it becomes a geographical thing rather than a legal matter — that means if he goes to Niger Republic, he has to transmit power. “For presidential decisions, that is why we have the federal executive council (FEC).” Meanwhile, according to section 146(2) of the constitution, if Nigeria suddenly finds itself without a president and vice-president, the senate president automatically takes charge of the country for three months during which an election will be held to fill the vacuum. Since Buhari did not initiate any communication to the national assembly in line with section 145 — and is not unable to discharge his duties — he is fully in charge of the country despite his absence and that of the vice-president. %

AP Top 25 Poll: Penn State Makes Big Jump, Washington Joins College Football Rankings – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ap-top-25-poll-penn-state-makes-big-jump-washington-joins-college-football-rankings-cbs-sports/ Week 3’s results have provided some opportunity for movement in the new AP Top 25 college football rankings, and Penn State was ready to take advantage after an impressive win at Auburn on Saturday. The Nittany Lions were methodical early and explosive late in a 41-12 rout of the Tigers, and the AP Top 25 voters took note and have James Franklin’s squad up eight spots to No. 12 in the latest poll. Georgia remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll after its thorough dismantling of South Carolina, followed by Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan all holding their spots following equally lopsided results. In fact the entire top 10 remained the same with every team in its same position from last week except for Kentucky (No. 9 to No. 8) and Oklahoma State (No. 8 to No. 9) swapping spots. The Nittany Lions move to No. 14 now has them positioned as the third-highest ranked team from the Big Ten, a note that also impacted by Michigan State’s fall from No. 11 to unranked after losing 39-28 at Washington. In terms of ranking movement that result did more for the Huskies, who did not have a single voting point in last week’s balloting but makes their 2022 AP Top 25 debut at No. 18 after the win. The Pac-12 picked up another impressive non-conference win with Oregon’s 41-20 win against BYU, and that victory shot the Ducks up 10 spots to No. 15 and sent the Cougars down seven spots from No. 12 to No. 19. Other notable movers in the AP poll were No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 NC State and No. 16 Ole Miss, all teams who moved up four spots thanks to some of the shake-up inside the top 20. Part of that shake-up was a dramatic 12-spot fall for Miami down to No. 25 following its road defeat at the hands of Texas A&M. Let’s check out the full top 25 from the AP voters (first-place votes in parenthesis):  Week 3 AP Top 25 poll 1. Georgia (59) 2. Alabama (3) 3. Ohio State (1) 4. Michigan 5. Clemson 6. Oklahoma 7. Roblox Minecraft Fortnite: The Worlds Future Superpowers? Big Think
Roblox Minecraft Fortnite: The Worlds Future Superpowers? Big Think
Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite: The World’s Future Superpowers? – Big Think https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/roblox-minecraft-fortnite-the-worlds-future-superpowers-big-think/ MATTHEW BALL: With a better understanding of the Metaverse, it should be no surprise that gaming companies are at the forefront. And that’s because of how they’ve been trained for decades, not just in design, but in ethos, in philosophy, in feel. There’s lots of things we do because we have to, because we can’t help ourselves.  But we don’t play games we don’t enjoy. So many believe that gaming companies moving to the forefront of our economy as opposed to enterprise, SaaS, or tech and productivity companies is positive because it means that we have people who are designing so that we feel good, not designing so that we do something.  Almost all technologies are defined by constraints, either those which affect them or those which they relieve. And so, what’s fascinating about the Metaverse is the ways in which it seems to be originating from a relatively small segment of the economy: consumer leisure. And at that, a niche one, video gaming. How is it that consumer products were typically last to enter the internet era, yet could be first to the Metaverse?  And the answer is that the constraints that affected all prior waves, meant that you couldn’t do much entertainment with them. If you couldn’t send an image, but you could send a document, then of course it’s going to be for business, it’s not going to be for consumers. That happened with the early internet, with early computers, and then with smartphones. But in gaming, the historical constraint was ‘Simulation fidelity.’ And what that meant is that the utility of a real-time-rendered simulation, 3D or 2D, wasn’t good enough.  A healthcare professional couldn’t use it. The military couldn’t use it. The government rarely used it. But it did work for “Pong.” It worked for “Space Invaders.” It worked for “Legend of Zelda.” And so the accumulated consequence is that for close to 70 years, all of the expertise that is now relevant for the Metaverse has been built and incubated in the gaming sphere. That’s not just design principles, obviously they’re best at building a virtual world, but it’s also more nuanced.  They have constructed complex marketplace economies, and most importantly, all of the hardest technological problems for the Metaverse- the challenges of networking globally- the constraints of having affordable but super powerful hardware to actually produce a real-time-rendered simulation- the world’s best expertise comes from the gaming sector.  Today, when we think about the closest experiences to the Metaverse, we typically identify platforms such as “Minecraft,” “Roblox,” or “Fortnite.” The scale of these services is really astonishing. Roblox has, on the average day, about 55 million users. By the way, about 65% of them are over the age of 13. We also have Minecraft, which is about 80% that size. And Fortnite has about 70 to 80 million estimated monthly users, and even more engagement time.  All together, there’s roughly 800 million people on the average day, who are spending hours in these virtual social worlds. One of the most fascinating things about the development of the Metaverse in contrast to the “gaming industry,” is that we can distinguish them by their focus.  They focus not on game-like objectives- win, kill, shoot, defeat, score- but non-game-like objectives. Instead, the goal is: identify, express, socialize, build, explore. And that’s one of the ways in which many of us have belief that this is a scalable experience, because it meets a human want, and it demonstrably brings many people together.  And we saw this, especially during the pandemic. That COVID positively affected the gaming industry, it’s growth rate and adoption, is self-evident. It destigmatized what many previously considered to be antisocial, and certainly not aspirational behavior. There were many schools in the United States which celebrated a graduation, a birthday, inside of “Animal Crossing.”  There were talk shows hosted in these environments. Others just saw the ways in which this was actually a viable educational forum, or at minimum, one for socializing. Not everyone was convinced, but many parents saw this and they now understood its benefits- not just that it wasn’t pernicious. That’s more profound than any short-term acceleration. There’s a famous line from the former Department of Commerce chair in the United States, where he said, “Today’s supercomputer is tomorrow’s PlayStation.”  Supercomputers were not designed for everyone, but in video gaming, the constraints have been relaxed so that those technologies and that expertise is applicable everywhere. John Hopkins University is now performing live-patient spinal surgery using game engine-rendering technology.  The U.S. and British militaries are using unreal engine for simulation training for active combat. We have reached the point in which the constraints to simulation fidelity and functionality have relaxed enough that the expertise in gaming can be applied elsewhere, such as the Metaverse. And this is one of the reasons why we see not just the world’s largest technology companies rushing into category, but we see plausible arguments that the leaders of tomorrow are today’s gaming companies. Institutions Are Still Wait-And-See With Ethereum CoinDesk
Institutions Are Still ‘Wait-And-See’ With Ethereum – CoinDesk https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/institutions-are-still-wait-and-see-with-ethereum-coindesk/ Lawrence Lewitinn is CoinDesk’s managing editor of global capital markets. The Merge has finally happened, and while bitcoin remains the preferred cryptocurrency of institutions (and one nation-state, El Salvador), Ethereum’s new consensus mechanism – and the scalability that is supposed to go with it – may attract some interest away from its bigger, older brother as the biting cold of the crypto winter continues. Still, institutions may be hesitant to jump all in on ether just yet. One reason is regulatory uncertainty. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler said proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies may be viewed as securities, though the regulator said he wasn’t talking about any specific coins. Nevertheless, his comments helped cause ether’s price to take a hit Thursday. Meanwhile, it seems that if there were any flows from bitcoin to ether, much of that was stanched with the onset of the Merge. You’re reading Crypto Long & Short, our weekly newsletter featuring insights, news and analysis for the professional investor. Sign up here to get it in your inbox every Sunday. At the start of the day – Sept. 15 – that the Merge happened, ether was trading for roughly 0.0817 BTC on Binance, according to data from TradingView. Fifteen hours later, it was changing hands at 0.0746 BTC and continued falling. Ethereum/Bitcoin price chart past five days (TradingView) That’s a depressing chart, one may think. Except that’s only five days of data. Let’s step back and look at how ether has been trading against bitcoin since the early days of the former’s life. The Beacon Chain bottom and other ratios The Beacon Chain, with which Ethereum ultimately merged, was launched Dec. 1, 2020. At the time, ether cost 0.0313 BTC. Thus, it has more than doubled in value since then. Ethereum/Bitcoin monthly chart (TradingView) Still, that doesn’t say anything about institutional interest. After all, prices can move based entirely on retail interest. Trying to gauge institutional interest may be a bit tricky. For instance, using futures volumes isn’t as clear as one may expect. We see that, on a ratio of dollar volume basis, ether futures have been regularly outpacing bitcoin futures since July, according to data from Skew.com, though it recently took a hit. ETH/BTC futures volume (TradingView) That doesn’t tell us much about institutions because some of the exchanges Skew uses for data cater to retail investors with high risk tolerance. There is at least one futures exchange, of course, that might be a good proxy for Wall Street’s interest and that’s the CME. The ratio of volumes between the two cryptocurrencies is way different: CME’s ETH/BTC futures volumes (TradingView) The CME’s ratio of ether to bitcoin futures is decidedly all over the place, but it’s evident that dollar volumes for ether contracts on the CME have yet to surpass that of bitcoin futures contracts. In the spot market, though, exchanges themselves can get a sense of the players interested in a currency. “In terms of the volume increase in ETH this week, it was actually led by institutions, and that’s a significant part of our exchange business,” said Bitstamp USA CEO Bobby Zagotta on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Friday. There was “about 56% increase in volume from institutions versus, I think, [a] 35% increase in volume from retail users.” A lot of that, Zagotta said, could be attributed to investors “selling the news” with the success of the Merge. Meanwhile, ether’s drop in price didn’t just happen against bitcoin; it happened versus the U.S. dollar as well. Though the drop disappointed HODLers this past week, there are those who aren’t ruling out enormous upside down the road. Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s head of digital assets research, likens ether’s performance versus USD after the Merge to what happened to bitcoin after significant changes. “There are plenty of examples of big crypto developments, including bitcoin halvings, where the price traded in a range for weeks or months,” Sigel said on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Thursday. “It just takes one major stakeholder to make a decision to buy after some stability in the network. That can take days, weeks, months – who knows?” Sigel, who has a five-year price target on ether of $8,000, noted four times as much ETH was staked on the Ethereum network in the six hours after the Merge than in the entire history of the Beacon Chain prior. “It seems pretty clear that those who are in the markets are now making the decision to commit and lock up that liquidity,” he said. “That’s probably a trend that will continue over time, so the early results are, I think, pretty encouraging notwithstanding the price action.” Sign up for Market Wrap, our daily newsletter explaining what happened today in crypto markets – and why. The team finished on a final score of 100.3 behind the German team who took gold on a 95.2. New Zealand followed closely in third on a combined total of 100.7. Led by Chef d’Equipe Bobby Costello, the team stayed composed and focused as the technical track designed by Uliano Vezzani (ITA) proved challenging with rails coming down throughout the course. The final phase was incredibly influential, changing the team standings multiple times as the top 25 combinations concluded the end of the day, making for an exciting championship finale. All five U.S. combinations finished yesterday’s phase in the top 25 and jumped in the second session of competition on the grass field at Centro Equestre Federale. Of the team’s performance, Costello elaborated on the work and commitment from the athletes, their staff, the owners, and all the support team to produce a historic result for the U.S. “It was just such a crazy day. I had a feeling when I walked the course that it was going to be very influential. I’d never seen such a consistently big and very technical track and have those three lines, all single jumps to combinations, with three completely different distances. It was a real important phase, and no team went unscathed, and you had to keep fighting to the end,” said Costello. “I hope this means great things for the future. I feel the program has been on the slow burn of the swing for a couple of years and I think there was still something missing. My number one priority when I took this interim position was to try and change the culture and really make sure that everyone had each other’s backs and building trust among the riders,” he added. “The riders, the owners, the staff, people have never given up on the sport and I’m so happy for everyone, even those at home, who get to watch and get to be proud, so really good just all around for us.” Will Coleman and Off The Record produced the only clear round for the team, managing the questions asked throughout the difficult track with poise, demonstrating the scopiness, rideability, and talent of the 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by The Off The Record Syndicate. The pair finished as the highest placed U.S. combination, taking seventh place overall on a score of 27.2. Coleman purchased the gelding as a four-year-old and has developed him throughout his career, noting that the progress and accomplishments of their partnership is something he continues to cherish. “It was great. I’m so thrilled. It was par for the course for this entire week for us to be honest. I feel like he’s punched above his weight in every phase and I’m just so happy with him,” said Coleman. “I’m so proud of my horse and my team and everyone involved with this program. I’ve had him since he was four and produced him myself and it’s cool to see him go in there and rise to the moment.” Lauren Nicholson and Vermiculus were the trailblazers for the team and finishing in 19th place overall on a final individual score of 41.1. The pair had two down and finished slightly over the optimum time to add 8.4 to their score following their sharp cross-country round yesterday. “He tried his heart out for me out there. We had the two down that have caused loads of people problems at the end of the course, but he’s come out of this week feeling good. This was a really tough track. It’s super technical and a real show jumping track. He jumped well and feels great, so I’m really happy with him overall.” In a notoriously challenging phase for Boyd Martin and Tsetserleg TSF, a 2007 Trakehner gelding owned by Christine Turner, Tommie Turner, and Thomas Turner, the pair dropped four rails for a total of 16 faults, for a final score of 41.2 to finish in 20th place overall. Of the team camaraderie, Martin spoke of the drought the U.S. program has had since their last team podium at a world championship and how much energy and excitement he can feel as the program looks ahead to the future. “I’m very proud to be an American today. Having five clear rounds yesterday in the cross-country was awesome, and just looking at the results here, any three of the five of us could have gotten a team medal,” said Martin. “I’ve been on many of these teams, and we’ve been so close over and over again, and it’s a massive sigh of relief. I’m really thankful for this team and proud to be here with these guys sitting next to me.” As the last combination to contest the course, Tamie Smith and Mai Baum, a 2006 German Sport Horse gelding owned by Alex Ahearn, Ellen Ahearn, and Eric Markell, added eight faults to their original score of 24.0 to finish on a 32.0, to take ninth place individually. Smith, while disappointed to be out of the individual medal running after her round, said the focus was always on the team result and their overall performance throughout the week meant more than an individual medal. “We came here to do our best and I have to say, we all knew that potentially we could medal, and I think we’re pleasantly surprised and we’re less than a point away from third and it shows to the quality of the field and the riding. It’s impressive and I’m just so honored to be here,” said Smith. “I’m very proud of my horse. I feel like it just wasn’t meant to be and that’s okay. We’re here and we got the silver medal and that’s what we came here for. I have to push that to the side that this isn’t about my individual performance, it’s about the team performance, and I’m ecstatic with our result.” Ariel Grald (Southern Pines, N.C) noted yesterday that her goal was to finish the championship on her dressage score of 32.5, which is exactly what she did. Aboard Leamore Master Plan, a 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Annie Eldridge, Grald guided the stunning gelding to a masterful clear round inside of the time. In her first championship appearance for the stars and stripes, Grald felt that it was her moment to prove that she deserved to be on the world stage, while also taking in every piece of knowledge and learning she could to help continue to prepare her for the future. “I was a bit nervous going in and he’s such a great show jumper. I just have to trust him and trust that he’s going to go in and try, and I knew after the first fence that he was good. The combinations can be hard for him because he has such a huge step, but all credit to my horse. I really have to mess up as a jockey for him to not jump clear, so it’s a lot of pressure of me to give him a good ride. He’s absolutely brilliant. I wanted to finish on my dressage score and we did, so I couldn’t be happier for him and that’s all you can ask for.” Results Learn more about the 2022 FEI Eventing World Championships at pratoni2022.it/en/. GEORGE — A string of incidents reported at one of Utah Tech University’s student housing units early Tuesday morning ended in arrest for a Washington City teen accused of burglary of a dwelling and aggravated assault for reportedly pulling a knife on two other students. 2019 stock photo of the Nisson Towers on the campus of Dixie State University, St. George, Utah, Aug. 26, 2019 | Photo by Mori Kessler, St. George News The investigation was prompted by a call Tuesday shortly before 7 a.m. to the UT Police Department, reporting a man arguing with one of the occupants outside of one of the student housing units off of 100 South in St. George. The initial report also indicated the suspect had brandished a knife during a verbal altercation, which is when several St. George Police officers also responded to the scene to assist. Ron Bridge, UT’s police chief, told St. George News that officers from St. George responded as a matter of policy, since there were reports of a weapon being involved. As such, the situation was considered a major incident that requires more than one or two officers, so additional officers were called in to assist. Officers arrived to find three men sitting to the south of the tower, including 18-year-old Christian Quintana, and during a search of Quintana officers recovered a knife from the front pocket of his pants that was later determined to be the weapon that was reportedly pulled on the other teens. Earlier that night, the report states, the trio was in one of the apartments and just as two of the occupants were going to sleep, they were awakened by Quintana “spazzing out” with a knife, prompting one of the occupants to whisper to the other to call police. The suspect left the apartment and while outside, the teen started yelling, which awakened the housing assistant who went outside thinking someone was in danger. The assistant found Quintana and asked if he was okay, which is when he pulled a knife and confronted the assistant. Undaunted, the occupants and the resident assistant continued their efforts to talk Quintana down, while a third teen called 911. Responding officers determined that Quintana was the alleged aggressor, while the other two teens were a student and a resident assistant. The suspect was transported to the St. George Police Department while investigators processed the scene. Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that a burglary had been reported earlier that evening. Stock photo of University of flag posted in front of Utah Tech University Police Department in St. George, Utah, Aug. 12, 2022 | Photo by Cody Blowers, St. George News During the earlier incident, the reporting party was sleeping and awoke to find a man in his dorm room who “stood there for a while” and then left. The occupant also said that once the suspect was gone, he noticed that his room and car keys were missing. When the occupant went outside, they found the keys lying on the ground a short distance from the apartment. The suspect described by the witness matched Quintana, the report states, and he was arrested by police. Bridge said Quintana was not a student of the university when the incidents took place, adding he was trespassed from the property shortly after his arrest. The suspect was then transported to Purgatory Correctional Facility and booked on multiple charges, including second-degree felony burglary and three third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault. Bridge said the incident serves as an example of the police department’s efforts in addressing criminal behavior quickly to keep the students safe. He went on to say it is the partnerships that exist between the campus police department and their law enforcement partners, including the St. George Police Department, that has made policing across the campus so effective, and is likely one of the reasons Utah Tech was rated as one of the safest schools in the country. In fact, in 2020, Utah Tech University Department of Public Safety was ranked third in the top 25 list for accomplishments in improving campus safety, out of more than 4,200 schools that were eligible. Following the arrest Tuesday, Quintana remains in custody without bail. Copyright St. George News, SaintGeorgeUtah.com LLC, 2022, all rights reserved. Central Washington Priest Pleads Not Guilty To Raping A Friend – Bigcountrynewsconnection.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/central-washington-priest-pleads-not-guilty-to-raping-a-friend-bigcountrynewsconnection-com/ A Tri-Cities priest pleaded not guilty last week to charges he raped a friend after he invited her to lunch. Prosecutors charged the Rev. Tomás Vázquez Téllez, 49, with third-degree rape with the aggravating circumstance of abusing his position of trust. Vázquez Téllez has been released from Benton County jail on a $30,000 bond while he awaits his Nov. 28 trial. He has turned over his passport, but there were concerns that he might have a second passport, Deputy Prosecutor Anita Petra told a judge on Thursday. And Judge David Petersen ordered him to turn over the possible second passport. Vázquez Téllez also has resigned from his position at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick, according to the Diocese of Yakima. The diocese had allowed him to serve in the Diocese of Spokane at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Pasco before leaving on a three-month study program in Jerusalem. The diocese has since revoked that permission, so he’s not practicing in any church.

15 Amazing Door County Experiences That Are Better In The Fall TravelAwaits
15 Amazing Door County Experiences That Are Better In The Fall TravelAwaits
15 Amazing Door County Experiences That Are Better In The Fall – TravelAwaits https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/15-amazing-door-county-experiences-that-are-better-in-the-fall-travelawaits/ One of the most popular vacation spots in the entire Midwest is Door County, Wisconsin. A narrow peninsula that juts 70 miles into Lake Michigan, Door County is bordered by 300 miles of shoreline and dotted with dozens of parks and nature preserves. It’s a scenic destination beloved by outdoor enthusiasts, serenity-seekers, and foodies alike. From my home base in suburban Chicago, I’ve been a frequent visitor to Door County during all four seasons on both personal and media trips. Fall is my favorite time of year, and for great reasons: The crowds and vehicular traffic are thinner than in summer, the foliage is brilliant, the attractions and eateries haven’t shut down for winter yet (if they do), and the pace is more relaxed. The air is comfortably crisp, so pull out your favorite fleece jacket or Nordic sweater, and you’re good to go. Door County is located in southeastern Wisconsin, about 155 miles north of Milwaukee and 180 miles northeast of Madison. Within the county are 17 charming towns and villages, each boasting its own personality and allure.  Here are my picks for amazing fall experiences sure to warm your heart and body in Door County: Fall foliage at Peninsula State Park Photo credit: Destination Door County The Best Places For Leaf-Peeping In Door County Within Door County are 5 state parks, 19 county parks, and many preserved natural areas, so you’ll be surrounded by colorful foliage as the leaves turn from green to golden yellows and brilliant reds. There are many ways to experience the autumnal splendor, from on the ground to high above it all. The ramp going up to Eagle Tower at Peninsula State Park Photo credit: Pamela Dittmer McKuen 1. Eagle Tower Get a bird’s eye view from Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek. The tower, opened in 2021, is a 60-foot-tall wooden structure with an observation deck high above Green Bay. Climb the 100-stair steps to get to the top, or stroll the gentle, winding, wheelchair-accessible ramp. Or do as I did, take the ramp up and the stairs down. Two more dramatic vista overlooks in Peninsula State Park are Sven’s Bluff and Eagle Panorama.  2. Hike The Sentinel Trail From the Eagle Tower, you can hop over to Sentinel Trail, which makes a leisurely 2-mile loop canopied by beech, maple, and red pine trees.  3. Bike On The Sunset Trail Also in Peninsula State Park is Sunset Trail, a scenic, mostly flat, 10-mile bicycle trail flanked by cedars and maples. I hadn’t ridden a bike in years, but a battery-assisted rental from Nor Door Sport and Cyclery in Fish Creek gave me the extra oomph I needed to navigate the pathway.  4. The Ridges Sanctuary A densely forested nature preserve, The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor is intersected by four easy trails through a diverse ecosystem. The first, 0.3 miles from the main building, the Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center, is a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk. Don’t miss the spur to the iconic Baileys Harbor Range Lights, a two-level lighthouse built in 1869. Trek on your own or with a guide.  Pro Tip: Door County’s leafy color show typically peaks in mid-October, but Mother Nature often has a mind of her own. Look for apples, cherries, pumpkins, and garden produce — and loads of filling comfort food. 11. White Gull Inn Perhaps Door County’s most iconic cuisine is the fish boil, a mix of freshly caught whitefish and red potatoes boiled outdoors in a huge pot. Salt is the only added ingredient. The grand finale is when the boiler master tosses a bit of kerosene onto the flames, causing a spectacular spillover and burning off greasy fish oils.  Fish boils take place all year, but there’s something super energizing about sitting around an open fire when the sky is dark and the air is chill.  At the historic White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, your fish boil meal is served with lemon and tartar sauce in the handsome indoor dining room. Dessert is included — a slice of Door County cherry pie, of course. 12. The Surprising Truth About The Future Of Social Security 69News WFMZ-TV
The Surprising Truth About The Future Of Social Security – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-surprising-truth-about-the-future-of-social-security-69news-wfmz-tv/ Here are some scary headlines you may have run across that give the impression that Social Security is on its way to being a thing of the past: “Social Security Is Projected to Be Insolvent a Year Earlier Than Previously Forecast” (The New York Times, 2021) “Why Is Social Security Running Out of Money?” (Investopedia, 2022) “Go-Broke Dates Pushed Back for Social Security, Medicare” (Fox Business, 2022) They’re misleading, though — because the vital safety-net program is not disappearing any time soon. There is some trouble ahead, but it’s likely to be not as bad as you think. Image source: Getty Images. There’s already one big problem While much of the media attention on Social Security focuses on its fiscal health, little is paid to how well it’s serving seniors. For example, its cost-of-living (COLA) increases haven’t sufficiently kept up with inflation. As my colleague Trevor Jennewine has noted, “Social Security benefits have increased 64% due to COLAs since 2000, but the expenses of a typical senior have grown more than twice as fast. As a result, Social Security has lost 40% of its buying power over that time period, according to The Senior Citizens League.” How does 80% sound? But let’s get back to the solvency issue. Understand that Social Security works by taking in taxes from working people and using them to pay beneficiaries their due. The system worked fine for a long time, as there have been far more workers than beneficiaries. But over the past few decades, people have been living longer and retiring earlier. Per the Social Security Administration (SSA), this is how the ratio of covered workers to beneficiaries has changed over time: Year Ratio of Covered Workers to Beneficiaries 1945 41.9 1955 8.6 1975 3.2 1985 3.3 1995 3.3 2005 3.3 2015 2.8 2020 2.7 Source: Social Security Administration. You can see that things are not moving in an auspicious direction. We’re nearing the point at which not enough will be coming in to cover benefits needing to be sent out. According to the 2022 Social Security Trustees Report, the current Social Security surplus will be depleted by 2035. That doesn’t mean that the program will suddenly be “broke,” unable to pay any benefits. Rather, there will be enough to only pay beneficiaries most of what they’re due — 80%, in fact, according to the latest estimate. That’s certainly not good news, but it’s not 0%, either. The good news Despite this worrisome scenario, there is good news: The Social Security program can be strengthened if Congress chooses to do so. (Let your representatives in Washington know that you’d like them to!) One fairly easy fix is to simply increase the tax rate that we pay for Social Security, which is 6.2% of our income up to $147,000 (for 2022), plus another 6.2% contributed by our employers. Everyone might pay a slightly higher rate, or that cap might be raised or eliminated so that higher earners get taxed more. Another possibility is raising the full retirement age, at which we’re entitled to start collecting the full benefits we’re due, based on our earnings record. That’s currently 67, at most. Raising it would mean fewer benefits would end up being paid in total. There are other possible fixes, as well. So don’t worry too much about Social Security shrinking or disappearing. Your future benefits may indeed be smaller, but there’s a very good chance that that won’t happen because it would upset many voters. The average monthly Social Security retirement benefit check was recently about $1,671 — about $20,000 over the course of a year. If that doesn’t seem anywhere near what you were hoping for, learn about ways to increase your Social Security benefits. And in the meantime, be conservative, factoring Social Security into your retirement plans. Expect less money and hope for more. The $18,984 Social Security bonus most retirees completely overlook If you’re like most Americans, you’re a few years (or more) behind on your retirement savings. But a handful of little-known “Social Security secrets” could help ensure a boost in your retirement income. For example: one easy trick could pay you as much as $18,984 more… each year! Once you learn how to maximize your Social Security benefits, we think you could retire confidently with the peace of mind we’re all after. Excited and smiling, the students greeted the adult staff as they walked past the handicap-accessible front-load washer and dryer, past the kitchen, and into the main living area where an adapted physical education lesson was slated to begin. Cave encouraged the students to imagine what a fit and healthy lifestyle could look like after high school. “Let’s imagine this is your living space. What could you use around you to exercise?” A student suggested weights, but Cave redirected their focus back to the space, demonstrating an equipment-less squat using the sofa.  The students in Cave’s group are among more than 300 students with cognitive and physical disabilities in St. Tammany Parish public schools who spend part of their schools days learning life skills in apartment-like settings at Mandeville High School and in Slidell next to Brock Elementary School. Live after high school Called “Thrive,” the program uses the centers to provide learning opportunities that supplement academic instruction, helping students prepare for independent living. “In addition to the home living skills they work on here, there’s also a training lab,” said Susan Munster, the St. Tammany Parish school district’s assistant director of Students with Exceptionalities. “They may learn office work like filing or how to alphabetize. They may learn how to work a cash register. It’s a myriad of skills.” Mandeville High School teacher Angie Dolese, back left, watches Karley Draper wash her hands before she helps make cupcakes in a special education classroom on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. He broke down each step of the washing process before leading the students to the kitchen. “The most important thing is to clean the kitchen before we do any cooking,” Davenport told the group as a student in a wheelchair maneuvered around him. The biggest stories in business, delivered to you every day. Sign up today. “Excuse me, sir. Don’t want to run over your feet,” the student said, prompting Davenport to jokingly respond it happens all the time.   Kitchen skills Then, a debate broke out over what to cook — French toast or peanut butter sandwiches. Davenport presented different methods of cooking, ranging from the stovetop to the microwave, but one student thought there should be more options. “I like cooking in the air fryer!” he shouted. “I think sometimes as parents, we think that kids just get things through osmosis, because they’ve seen us do it so many times. But they really don’t,” said Kerri Soo, the district’s director of Students with Exceptionalities. (Photo by Chris Granger | The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate) STAFF PHOTO BY CHRIS GRANGER The Thrive program was implemented a year ago, adding to a long list of services and resources within the department. The program’s start followed a year of remote learning that ended with a complaint against the school district to the state Department of Education. The complaint filed by Loyola Law Clinic and lodged by the parent of a disabled student alleged that students with disabilities suffered large scale learning loss due to inadequate instruction with remote schooling during the pandemic. An agreement that settled the complaint set guidelines on whether students with disabilities qualify for additional learning opportunities. District officials said they had been working to recoup learning loss since August 2020 through progress screenings and interventions.  In a video on the school district’s broadcast network, a parent lauded the Thrive program’s impact. “I think practical application is important and helping them apply that in a normal setting. We all need to thrive in order to survive and that’s what these kids need,” said Vera Chauhan.

September 18, Indian Sports Wrap: Diksha Finishes At Third Place In France, Thanks Father – Sportstar https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/september-18-indian-sports-wrap-diksha-finishes-at-third-place-in-france-thanks-father-sportstar/ GOLF Indian golfer Diksha Dagar produced a sizzling seven-under 64 in the final round to sign off at the third place, her best result of the season, at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France. The result also carried her to 45th spot in the Race to Costa del Sol standings for LET. Diksha finished third behind Ines Laklalech and Meghan MacLaren, who were involved in a play-off hole, which was won by Laklalech on the par-4 18th, at Golf Barrière. An elated Diksha thanked her father, Col Naren Dagar, for his guidance as her caddie during the tournament. “I’m very happy to see the direction that my game is heading in. Unfortunately, on the first day, I had six birdies but (also had) a number of bogeys, so I was thinking that I needed to cut down the bogeys,” she said. “I didn’t know the course very well but then I learned more about the clubs I should be selecting. Me and my dad had very good team work today and we selected the clubs well together and finally my putts started to drop.” Starting the day at 4-under and in T-12 place, Diksha hit three straight birdies on first three holes. She added two more on seventh and ninth to turn in 5-under 30. A day earlier she played the same stretch in 6-under 29. On the back nine, Diksha added birdies on 10th, 13th and 14th to go to 8-under and in going for one more on the 18th she dropped her only bogey of the day and finished at 64. Laklalech has made history by becoming the first Moroccan, first Arab and first North African woman to win a Ladies European Tour title. Her husband, Ali, was her caddie. The 24-year-old from Casablanca defeated Meghan MacLaren with a bogey five on the first play-off hole, the par-4 18th, at Golf Barrière. -PTI Aditi drops to 59th after disappointing third round in Portland Portland (US): India’s Aditi Ashok endured a disappointing third round of 4-over 76 that saw her plummet to tied 59 with one more round to go in the AmazingCre Portland Classic here. Two bogeys on either side of the course at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club made it rough and there were no birdies either. With Aditi having shot 69-71 on the first two days, the 76 dropped her to even par for three rounds. Lilia Vu, who has never held a lead or co-lead after any round on the LPGA Tour will tee it off in the lead group for the final day. She shot 69 and shared the lead at 13-under with Ayaka Furue (67) and Andre Lee (67). Vu got off to a rocky start with a bogey on the first hole, but she turned it around on the back nine with four birdies in the first six holes. Her 3-under round was enough to maintain the co-lead at -13. Joining Vu in the tie for first were 2022 Rolex first-time winner Ayaka Furue and Andrea Lee. Furue and Lee both shot 67s on Saturday, with the former earning five birdies in a bogey-free round. A 2022 rookie, Furue won the Scottish Open in July. The low round of the day belonged to Swede Frida Kinhult, who shot -7 with six birdies and an eagle and a bogey. She was joined by fellow Swede Maja Stark and Oregon native Caroline Inglis in a tie for 10th. -PTI Indian American Theegala remains in top 10 at Napa Indian American Sahith Theegala stayed in the top 10 despite a 1-under 71 on the third day, when he was expecting to move up from his overnight fifth place at the season-opening Fortinet Championship on the PGA Tour. He slipped to tied ninth and was 9-under for 54 holes. Theegala found just over half the fairways, 8 out of 14, but was better in getting to the greens in regulation with 12 out of 18. His putting held out, especially on the front nine and then closing holes. Theegala, who had two bogeys against one birdie on the front nine, made up somewhat on the back nine with birdies on 11th and 17th. He holed a 23-footer on 17th to stay inside top 10. Justin Lower was in lead at 13-under with defending champion Max Homa and Danny Willett a shot back after even-par 72s. They were tied second at 12-under. Byeong Hun An celebrated his 31st birthday with a 71 to get to 11 under. It wasn’t quite the birthday to remember as An was disappointed with his haul on the par-5s at Silverado Resort and Spa North course in Napa. He was 2-over for the Par-5s in his 1-under 71 as he also sank three birdies and one eagle. China’s Marty Zecheng Dou sank four birdies against two bogeys for a 70 and was tied 13th at 8-under, five back of the leader. The 25-year-old, who is starting his second stint on the PGA TOUR after his debut in 2018, is seeking a first top 10 in what is his 28th start this week. Korean rookie S H Kim carded a 71 for 7-under and will enter Sunday’s final round, whose tee times have been brought forward due to impending poor weather, in a share of 17th position. -PTI TENNIS Haritashree Venkatesh beat top seed Rituja Saha 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the girls title in the Asian under-16 tennis tournament.
