Sports World Showers Roger Federer With Praise After Retirement News NBC Southern California
Sports World Showers Roger Federer With Praise After Retirement News – NBC Southern California https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/sports-world-showers-roger-federer-with-praise-after-retirement-news-nbc-southern-california/ A legendary sports career is coming to an end. Roger Federer announced on Thursday that he is retiring from competitive tennis. Next week’s Laver Cup in London will be his final tournament on the ATP Tour. Federer, 41, is one of just three men’s tennis players to win at least 20 Grand Slam singles titles and he was the first to reach the milestone. His 20 Grand Slams only trail Rafael Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic (21) on the all-time list. Eight of Federer’s Grand Slam triumphs came at Wimbledon, which is a tournament record. The Swiss national spent 310 weeks as the world’s No. 1-ranked player. That included a record stretch of 237 consecutive weeks as the top-ranked player. He’s also the oldest player to ever sit atop the world rankings, as he claimed the No. 1 spot at 38 years and 10 months old in 2018.  Now, Federer will become the second tennis great to hang up the racket within the past month. Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, is evolving away from tennis following her third-round loss at the 2022 U.S. Open. From legend Billie Jean King to 2022 U.S. Open winner Carlos Alcaraz and many more, the sports world paid homage to Federer after the news of his impending retirement: Sports Get today’s sports news out of Los Angeles. Here’s the latest on the Dodgers, Lakers, Angels, Kings, Galaxy, LAFC, USC, UCLA and more LA teams. Roger has been one of my idols and a source of inspiration! Thank you for everything you have done for our sport! I still want to play with you! Wish you all the luck in the world for what comes next! @rogerfederer pic.twitter.com/k4xjyN3AAB — Carlos Alcaraz (@carlosalcaraz) September 15, 2022 Feel free to do your partisan debate list thing, but Roger Federer was the standard in tennis, either the one to fear at the beginning, the one to beat in the middle, and the one who recreated definitions of excellence. Pulled the sport into a new era. A titanic figure retires. — Full Dissident (@hbryant42) September 15, 2022 Cheers Roger. Thanks for the shared memories my friend. It was an honor to share time/experiences on the most hallowed grounds in our sport. Don’t be a stranger …. — andyroddick (@andyroddick) September 15, 2022 Roger, Where do we begin? It’s been a privilege to witness your journey and see you become a champion in every sense of the word. We will so miss the sight of you gracing our courts, but all we can say for now is thank you, for the memories and joy you have given to so many. pic.twitter.com/VDWylKvW86 — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) September 15, 2022 There have been few champions in the history of any sport as admired as Roger Federer – which is a testament to his class, sportsmanship and regard for the fans, every bit as much as his greatness. Thank you Roger, it was a pleasure to watch. pic.twitter.com/sBGjRKrYrg — Mike Greenberg (@Espngreeny) September 15, 2022

This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator The Merge Arrives The Drum
This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator The Merge Arrives The Drum
This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator, ‘The Merge’ Arrives – The Drum https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/this-week-in-the-metaverse-arrest-warrant-for-top-crypto-creator-the-merge-arrives-the-drum/ Things are moving fast in the metaverse, and in the wider world of web3 as a whole. Here’s what you need to know from this past week: Roblox — the immensely popular blockchain-based gaming platform — announced during its annual developer conference on September 9 that it will soon introduce an expanded advertising model and age guidelines in an effort to attract an older demographic and expand its income stream. According to data from Statista, approximately 67% of Roblox users were under the age of 17 – and the vast majority were under the age of 13 – in September 2020. Now that distribution appears to be shifting – there now appear to be more daily active users (DAUs) over the age of 13 than below. At the same time, Roblox has been falling short of its financial goals; the company’s most recent financial report shows that it missed both its top and bottom lines. Having derived most of its past income from an in-game currency called Robux, the company seems to be looking for new ways to expand its revenue stream. The company is reportedly hoping to solve both of these problems through the introduction of a new advertising model. According to reporting from The Verge, Roblox announced on Friday that it will soon implement immersive advertising options — such as virtual billboards — which will enable brands and developers to reach players across a vast-scope of in-platform games, or “experiences.” Advertisers will also reportedly soon have the option to create “portals” which will transport players from a game to a branded virtual space. The platform’s new advertising model is slated to be tested with a select group of advertisers later this year, followed by an official launch in 2023. The immersive ads will reportedly be labeled as such and accessible to users aged 13 and older. Roblox also plans to add guidelines to its platform, letting players and parents know which experiences contain potentially offensive or disturbing content. South Korea issues warrant for the arrest of Do Kwon, creator of TerraUSD and Luna A South Korean court issued an arrest warrant earlier this week for Do Kwon, the main builder of the cryptocurrencies TerraUSD and Luna, both of which crashed earlier this year and brought a significant portion of the broader crypto market down with them. According to one estimate, the collapse of the two coins led to investors worldwide losing a cumulative amount of around $42bn. The arrest warrant reportedly follows an extended period of search-and-seizure operations from South Korean authorities. “An arrest warrant has been issued for a total of six people, including Do Kwon, who are currently residing in Singapore,” a spokesperson for South Korean prosecutors announced in a statement on Wednesday. No reason was specified. Kwon announced in a public interview in August that he had moved to Singapore for his family’s safety. US authorities have also recently been cracking down on the crypto industry. In July, for example, The New York Times reported that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control was probing the crypto exchange company Kraken for allegedly violating US sanction law by making its services available to customers in Iran, Syria and Cuba. ‘The merge’ finally arrives This afternoon, at around 3 pm ET, the Ethereum network is schedule to transition away from a “Proof-of-Stake” (PoS) system and onto a “Proof-of-Work” (PoW) system — a highly anticipated event known in the crypto community as “the merge.” If everything goes according to plan, the pivotal event could lead to as much as a 99% reduction in the amount of energy that Ethereum requires to run. It could also turn Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, Ether (or ETH), deflationary — meaning the supply will hypothetically decrease over time — which could in turn attract more investors and raise its price. For a more detailed explanation of the merge and why it matters, click here. iHeartMedia sets up shop in Roblox Media company iHeartMedia announced on Wednesday that it has cut the ribbon on iHeartLand on Roblox, a new virtual experience designed to establish the brand “as a go-to destination and pioneer in the rapidly-expanding metaverse,” pera press release. iHeartMedia has partnered with Intel and State Farm for its new Roblox activation; the famous Jake from State Farm will also be (virtually) present – presumably wearing khakis. The media company appears to be trying to attract a younger audience to its new virtual landscape through musical appeal. Visitors will be challenged to collect “song energy” rewards in an effort “to power their own [virtual] customized music studio as well as unlock upgrades, fan experiences and rewards,” per the press release. A pre-recorded performance from the singer-songwriter Lauv will play this Friday from the State Farm Park — described as “the epicenter of iHeartLand” — and fans can take pictures of an avatar of Lauv (that won’t actually be controlled by anyone). iHeartLand on Roblox will also host an album release party for singer-songwriter Charlie Puth on October 7, “a special podcast event” with The Trap Nerds and several other scheduled “can’t-miss events in the next year.” “We’re always looking for more ways to connect with our audience and provide the kind of unique experiences only iHeartMedia can offer, and we’re thrilled to expand our footprint in the metaverse by opening iHeartLand on Roblox,” Conal Byrne, chief executive of the iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group, said in the press release. “Our scale and reach across all forms of entertainment give iHeart an elite position to bring the hottest artists, freshest music and biggest podcasts to Roblox. iHeartLand on Roblox is set to blow all expectations away.” iHeartMedia debuted iHeartLand in Fortnite less than one month ago. Kingship partners with Grammy-winners James Fauntleroy and Hit-Boy Kingship is hoping to make some hits in the metaverse through a new collaboration with Hit-Boy and James Fauntleroy, both of whom have signed on as co-executive producers and songwriters for the band. Hit-Boy is a Grammy-winning hip-hop producer who’s worked with industry giants like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nas, Beyonce and many others. Fauntleroy is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer who has also worked with some of the GOATs. “I’m always looking to push things forward musically,” Hit-Boy said in a press release, “and this is a great opportunity to do something new in the web3 space.” The faces of Kingship are three Bored Ape NFTs and one Mutant Ape NFT, giving them – at least optically – a Gorillaz vibe. The band was launched by 10:33pm, Universal Music Group’s web3 label. News of the band’s collaboration with Hit-Boy and Fauntleroy arrives less than one month after the band announced a partnership with Mars, International, which featured M&Ms emblazoned with the bandmembers’ cartoon-simian faces. According to the press release, Hit-Boy and Fauntleroy will be working with Arnell, the Mutant Ape member of the band who’s also Kingship’s DJ. 5 Reasons Why Cloud Mining Is Set To Remain Profitable For The Coming Years – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/5-reasons-why-cloud-mining-is-set-to-remain-profitable-for-the-coming-years-cryptonews/ Crypto mining requires miners to own expensive hardware and generate high energy consumption to verify blocks. Cloud mining provides a cheaper, more convenient platform. 5 Reasons Cloud Mining Will Remain Profitable Let’s explore the reasons cloud mining is on course to remain profitable for the near future. 1. Low Fees and Investments The exorbitant fees some platforms charge magnify losses and decrease profits significantly. The advantage of using cloud mining is that fees are affordable and unhidden.  The high startup costs of buying hardware and software to mine increase the barriers to entry, making it unaffordable for many users. The initial investment for cloud mining is little to none as platforms provide all the required mining equipment. 2. Mine Various Coins Opting for cloud mining provides you access to several coins. Mining a certain coin the traditional way requires specific hardware and software. If you want to mine a different coin, it may be necessary to purchase new equipment. Cloud mining prevents additional costs for mining various coins by offering them on one platform.     3. Impressive Revenues  Cloud miners generate impressive revenues, and the good news is that rates are set to increase. That enables miners to increase their incomes by exerting the same effort and time as before. 4. Energy Consumption High energy consumption is required to mine using your own hardware. Some miners pay several thousand dollars annually for utility bills. Cloud mining completely eradicates the electricity cost for miners or charges them much lower rates than other forms of mining. 5. Bonuses Verifying transactions isn’t the only way miners can earn on cloud mining platforms. Some platforms offer bonuses for referrals.  Bonuses can be a certain amount or a percentage of profits earned by the person you referred. Cloud Mining Platform Copium is a cloud mining platform currently hosting a presale of Copium Coin — ERC-20 token powering the Copium Protocol ecosystem. It’s a deflationary token as the purchased Copium Coins from the open market are sent to burn addresses to reduce supply. The presale offers 50 million tokens and ends in 52 days or until the hard cap is reached. Copium Coins are available from Copium’s website.

Marquette Law School Poll To Release Results Of National Surveys On U.S. Supreme Court, Political Topics, Sept. 21-22 // News Center – Marquette Today https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/marquette-law-school-poll-to-release-results-of-national-surveys-on-u-s-supreme-court-political-topics-sept-21-22-news-center-marquette-today/ Sept. 15, 2022 MILWAUKEE — The Marquette Law School Poll will release the results of its next national survey of public opinion over two days, Sept. 21-22. Although several programs offered in the Law School’s Lubar Center have resumed in person, these national results will be released online only via written releases and video conversations between poll director Charles Franklin and Alan Borsuk, senior fellow in law and public policy. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Marquette Law School Poll will release results pertaining to public opinion about the U.S. Supreme Court. The survey looks at reaction to the Court’s major decisions in June, as well as opinion about the direction of the Court over time and perception of the justices. With the Court’s October 2022 term about to begin, the poll also asks about several cases to be argued in the near future. This is the 10th installment in a series of nationwide surveys, begun in 2019, measuring public understanding and opinion of the nation’s highest court. The second release, on Thursday, Sept. 22, will concern findings of the Marquette Law School Poll’s national survey of policy preferences and political topics. This release will examine public opinion across the country on abortion policy, student loan forgiveness, laws on concealed carry of handguns, political engagement, and favorability of select public figures, including President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The survey also looks at opinions about other potential 2024 presidential contestants. Each video and written release and corresponding data will be available at 6 a.m. ET (5 a.m. CT) on the Marquette Law School Poll website. Embargoed written releases of these national surveys will be available to members of the media who formally register their interest in advance online and agree to stated embargo policies. Reporters who have registered for previous embargoes do not need to register again. Interviews with Franklin following the poll’s releases are available on request by contacting Chris Stolarski at christopher.stolarski@marquette.edu. Further details about each day’s release follow. National poll on the U.S. Supreme Court – Wednesday, Sept. 21 The new Marquette Law School Poll Supreme Court survey will report on national public opinion concerning the Court’s June rulings on abortion and on Second Amendment rights. Past decisions by the Court on same-sex marriage and federal statutory protection of LGBT rights against job discrimination are also the topics of survey questions. The survey also asks about upcoming cases concerning affirmative action in college admissions and whether business owners’ religious beliefs can appropriately justify refusing some services to gay people. The survey continues to examine public approval of how the Court is handling its job, confidence in the Court as an institution, views of the justices, public perception of the Court’s ideological balance, and perceptions of recent shifts on the Court.  National poll on political topics – Thursday, Sept. 22 The same national survey will form the basis of a second release the next day, focusing on preferences among potential policies about abortion, support for concealed carry of handguns, and student loan forgiveness. The poll asks about motivation to vote and likelihood of voting in the November midterm elections. The poll continues to monitor views of several public figures including Trump, Pence, and DeSantis, along with opinion of Biden and a possible Trump candidacy in 2024. The survey includes trends in confidence/doubt about the accuracy of the 2020 presidential election and how that is related to other political views. Begun in 2012, the Marquette Law School Poll is the most extensive statewide polling project in Wisconsin history. Since 2019, the Law School’s surveys of national public opinion about the U.S. Supreme Court have expanded the work of the poll both geographically and to a new set of topics of broad importance, and more recently the national survey has included political topics. Franklin has directed the poll since its inception and is a professor of law and public policy at Marquette Law School. His academic articles on partisanship, public opinion, the Supreme Court, and U.S. Senate elections have appeared in major journals and as book chapters. Tech Tracker: Picnic Announces More Plans To Automate Kitchens – Nation’s Restaurant News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/tech-tracker-picnic-announces-more-plans-to-automate-kitchens-nations-restaurant-news/ Automation technology is king these days, from flashy robots to Starbucks’ recent announcement that they would be investing in more automation to help cut down drink-making time. Not only can automation help with the ongoing labor crisis, but human-free tech can also improve speed and convenience: two consumer needs that have become more important in the post-pandemic world. This month, the robot tech news keeps rolling in as pizza robot-maker Picnic, announced multiple new partnerships, including one with Domino’s International and one with Minnow Technologies to introduce an automated pickup pod. In other news this month, DoorDash is adding a new merchant suite to help boost small businesses and Lunchbox is introducing a new integration network that helps solve the age-old problem, “why won’t these tech vendors play nicely together?” Tech Tracker rounds up what’s happening in the technology sector of the restaurant industry, including news from restaurants, vendors, digital platforms, and third-party delivery companies. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know and why: Picnic picks up more partnerships with Minnow Technologies, Domino’s, and more Robot technology company Picnic has been busy this month. The pizza automation company announced a partnership with Seattle-based Minnow Technologies, which developed a self-service pickup pod (aka smart food lockers) for foodservice operators. Both companies envision the partnership working especially well for end-to-end automation in commercial kitchens, large franchises, sports stadiums and universities. A customer will be able to place a mobile order, which is then picked up and created by Picnic’s pizza-making technology and placed inside a heated pickup pod for the customer to retrieve at their convenience. But that’s not all: Picnic also announced a partnership with Seattle-based Moto — a pan-style pizzeria known for its unique pizza concepts like clam chowder and chop cheese — to deploy the Picnic pizza station Otis inside the burgeoning pizzeria. “Moto was founded on the notion that our food should be nutritious and sourced near us to deliver the highest quality meal,” Lee Kindell, Founder of Moto said in a statement. “With more and more people desperate to get their hands on [our pizzas], we’re looking forward to Picnic helping us produce a higher volume of the peculiar pizza Seattle desires, without any sacrifice to taste.” Perhaps one of the most intriguing partnerships Picnic announced is with Domino’s International, where the company will be testing the kitchen of the future at a Domino’s store in Berlin, Germany. While this is just a test demonstration, the Picnic partnership with international franchisee, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Ltd., Is a multi-year partnership that could lead to more automation solutions for the company in the future. DoorDash launches a new merchant suite to boost indie restaurant performance Following in the trend of third-party delivery companies expanding beyond their original capabilities, DoorDash has launched a new merchant suite meant to help boost performance of neighborhood restaurants. This reorganization of DoorDash’s current merchant capabilities lets operators easily see the solutions available to them in one place based on needs like “grow online” “attract new customers,” or “increase order volume.” Customers will also have access to customer data, like a heat map of locations and zip codes of where their biggest customers are located. Limited access to customer data has long-been a criticism of third-party delivery companies and they are slowly trying to change their reputation for being possessive of merchant data. DoorDash also is launching a learning center where operators can learn skills and methods for how to increase their online orders. “Our goal is to give restaurants more opportunities to grow, be more profitable, and operate efficiently in today’s online convenience economy,” Tom Picket, chief revenue officer at DoorDash said in a statement.  “We’re only successful when our partners are successful — we hope this new framework gives them the guidance they need to grow.” Lunchbox introduces a new integration network As the number of tech vendors continue to multiply, it can become more and more challenging to figure out how to get them to play nicely with one another. Lunchbox’s latest capability — Lunchbox Open — claims to take vendor integration to the next level with a singular platform that integrates features from many of the major vendor companies including Toast, all major DSPs, Square, Facebook, Google Ads, Brink, and LevelUp. The integrative technology also removes block on entry from legacy providers like Olo. “Our mission is to help restaurants in every avenue and the best way to do that is by giving them access to pick and choose the integrations that make sense for them and their restaurant,” Lunchbox cofounder Hadi Rashid said in a statement. “We’re also opening up the race for integration partners.” Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant enters the metaverse The metaverse isn’t just for hot membership clubs or fast-food integrations anymore. Chicago-based Scott Harris Hospitality is launching an NFT membership program at Michelin bib Gourmand-recommended restaurant Joe’s Imports. The digital NFT artwork will pay homage to the eponymous, late Joe Fiely, or “Smiley Joe Fiely” and will give partial proceeds of the NFT purchases back to the community. Like many of the NFTs we’re seeing lately, the Joe’s Imports membership program will be a membership program, offering three levels of participation, ranging from $100  to $1,750 per year. Membership will include access to VIP events, discounts on meals and wine, free happy hours, exclusive events, and a private locker inside the Joe’s Imports wine cellar. The latest batch of tech vendor funding In the world of technology startup funding, virtual workforce company, Bite Ninja continues to be popular with another round of funding: this $11.3 million bridge funding round brings the company’s total raised to date to $15.4 million. The funding will be used to help expand the company’s technology capabilities, and key investors this time around included Manta Ray Ventures, Owl Ventures, Agfunder, Pioneer Fund and TRAC Unicorn fund.   Byte Kitchen, a restaurant technology company that helps scale restaurants through virtual food halls, just closed a $6 million round of funding. This fundraising round was led by Crosslink Capital, Emergent Ventures and Kevin Mahaffey, and will be used to expand locations, invest in the technology, and grow the team. ConverseNow — a technology company known for creating voice-based AI ordering assistants — received a $10 million investment in partnership with Danny Meyer-founded private equity firm, Enlightened Hospitality Investments. Combined with their $15M Series A funding, which closed last year in partnership with Craft Ventures, that brings ConverseNow’s total funding to $28.8M. The company currently operates its technology in 1,200 restaurants across the country, including Domino’s Pizza, Fazoli’s and Blake’s Lotaburger.

Southwest Forecasts A Slower Recovery In Business Travel The Washington Post
Southwest Forecasts A Slower Recovery In Business Travel – The Washington Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/southwest-forecasts-a-slower-recovery-in-business-travel-the-washington-post/ DALLAS — Southwest Airlines said Thursday that corporate travel is recovering more slowly than the airline had expected, although that is offset by continuing strong demand from leisure travelers even after the end of the traditional summer vacation season. Southwest said revenue from “managed” business travel in the quarter ending Sept. 30 will be down 26% to 28% from 2019 levels. That’s a retreat from Southwest’s earlier forecast of a 17% to 21% decline, which the airline attributed to “softer” last-minute business-travel bookings since late July. The Dallas-based airline said, however, that business travel has picked up after Labor Day — as it usually does — echoing similar comments by Delta Air Lines on Wednesday. Southwest caters mostly to leisure travelers but has been making a big push to attract more corporate business, putting it in more direct competition with American, Delta and United. Southwest offered the third-quarter commentary in a securities filing that generally repeated previous forecasts, including that overall revenue will be about 10% higher than the same period in 2019. Southwest said it had a good Labor Day weekend and revenue is still trending higher than in 2019. “Although early in the booking curve, the company continues to experience strong revenue trends in fourth quarter 2022,” it said. Shares of Southwest fell more than 2% in late-morning trading, while other major U.S. airline stocks rose by 2% to 3%. %

8 Roguelikes Available On PS Plus Extra – TheGamer https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/8-roguelikes-available-on-ps-plus-extra-thegamer/ The definition for what makes a roguelike game is becoming more muddied and has grown to become something else entirely from its early humble retro roots. Nowadays, good roguelike games usually contain endless procedurally generated levels, unique loot that affects each run, permadeath, and some element of meta-progression. Roguelikes have dominated the indie scene for a while now, but it has become so popular that it has begun to permeate flashy triple-A blockbusters too. With Sony’s PS Plus service’s growing list of games, there are quite a few options for you to experience the deeply compelling gameplay loop of the roguelike genre. There are plenty of roguelikes on PS Plus Extra, but which are worth your time? 8 Fury Unleashed Fury Unleashed takes the gameplay elements from the frenetic side-scrolling bullet-hell platformers of old and chucks them straight into a procedurally generated comic-book-inspired world, with all the meta-progression upgrades you can imagine. The game is like a fun mix between Contra and Dead Cells, and includes an intriguing combo system that offers rewards for unbroken chains of kills. It all helps to keep the action flowing while increasing your score. The moment-to-moment gameplay feels great as you have access to an impressive arsenal, with plenty of dashes and double jumps to keep the combo going. The game also allows you to bring a buddy along for co-op, which makes for twice the bombastic fun. 7 Everspace Most games set in space tend to go for a slower-paced and more explorative type of experience as you delve into the vast lonely depths of the unknown. Everspace does away with all that tranquil nonsense and looks to emulate the action-packed space shooters of old, in addition to introducing a cool story and some interesting roguelike elements. It is a solitary experience that has you engaging in run after run of hair-raising combat, which can change quite dramatically based on the type of ship and upgrades you’ve opted for. The story is told in quite a simplistic way, but the fact that it’s there at all is a welcome surprise as it will keep you engaged enough to see it through. 6 Moonlighter Has it ever crossed the minds of all those warriors committing heroic deeds what the humble town merchant gets up to when they’re off on their world-saving adventures? Moonlighter looks to answer that very pertinent question and will broaden your understanding of what it means to be an unsuspecting merchant. After inheriting a modest shop as part of the family business, you must delve into dark dungeons to find various trinkets and treasures to sell in order to maintain a healthy profit. Moonlighter is part shop-management sim and part roguelike dungeon crawler, which echoes the likes of The Legend of Zelda and The Binding of Isaac. What follows is an engaging loop of heading into the dungeons to find loot at night, then returning home to sell your plunder during the day. These two genres feed into each other in such a complimentary fashion, that it’s hard to believe it hasn’t been done before. 5 Children Of Morta Children of Morta bucks the ever-pervasive trend of roguelikes having a barely non-existent story by including a very well-thought-out narrative with a cast of lovably unforgettable characters. You take control of the noble Bergson family as they fight to uncover the mystery of the growing Corruption that is taking over the land. In addition to having distinct personalities with their own backstories and character arcs, each family member has unique abilities that can be boosted between runs. You have the option to permanently upgrade damage and armor, but there’s also a huge variety of other boons and pickups that will help you along the way. After dying, you’ll be rewarded with some deeper narrative insights, giving further detail into the background of each character and their relationships with each other. It’s a refreshingly unique take on the genre, and the delightfully colorful pixel-art graphics are a treat for the eyes. 4 Deathloop Arkane Studios pulled another one out of the bag when it released Deathloop, a stylish high-octane first-person shooter that has you vying to assassinate a variety of nasty baddies in a continual time loop. Arkane has definitely taken inspiration from their popular Dishonored series, as the combat is just as polished and slick. Admittedly, this isn’t a traditional roguelike game, as it incorporates mechanics from a variety of different genres. Where it does share its similarities is with its continual repetition of the same levels, where you will learn to improve your skills to better tackle each run. The environments vary depending on the time of day, allowing you to plan the best route possible for the most stylishly effective form of assassination, sort of like the Hitman series. Although not the most traditional of roguelike experiences, it shares enough with the genre to give its fans a good time, and the game is a fantastic experience in its own right. 3 Enter The Gungeon The tremendous success of Dodge Roll’s Enter The Gungeon is very well deserved as it’s one of the very best roguelike twin-stick shooters ever made. The number of guns you have at your disposal is tantalizingly overwhelming, with each weapon having its own unique abilities and distinct gameplay quirks, including a gun that shoots literal black holes. At its heart, the game is its dungeon (or gungeon) crawling, with each procedurally-generated level spawning a variety of bullet-themed enemies, items, and lore to discover. Each of the eight playable characters feels distinct and have their own perks and abilities, which helps to keep runs fresh. The game is very tough and will likely take you many playthroughs to get to the end bosses – although it’s such a joy to play, you probably won’t even notice. 2 Dead Cells With a slew of free updates, four sizable chunks of paid DLC, and a variety of continually added levels, bosses, and enemy types, there really is no end in sight for Dead Cells’ reign as king of the 2D roguelike. It is so much more than a simple action platformer by cleverly borrowing from Soulslikes and Metroidvanias. While navigating the procedurally generated levels, you’ll jump and dodge-roll your way through the game’s punishing combat. During each run, you are given the option to spec your character according to your chosen play style. You have access to a huge assortment of weapons and gadgets, making each play-through feel unmistakably different from the last. This is a roguelike experience that will likely be enjoyed by gamers for years to come, and if you’ve yet to get your hands on it, picking it up on PS Plus is a no-brainer. 1 Returnal Returnal was the first game that truly showcased what the PS5 is capable of, by flaunting its impressive 3D audio and the DualSense’s impressive adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. By drawing on its experience with frantic twin-stick indie shooters, developer, Housemarque’s, first foray into the triple-A space is a thrilling, bullet-dodging ascent into hell. With every death, you start again at your crashed ship to face the challenge anew, with access to a whole host of weapons and upgrades to aid you in your journey. In true Housemarque style, the shooting feels phenomenal, and the snappy traversal feels great when weaving in and out of the constant onslaught of bullets. It’s one of the most polished roguelike games out there, with a rich and engaging story that will have you happily die again and again to solve the mystery contained within. Anyone who owns a PS5 owes it to themselves to give this one a try. Next: Best Co-Op Games On PS Plus Extra

FACT SHEET: U.S. Actions To Promote Caribbean Energy Security, Access To Finance, And Food Security – The White House https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/fact-sheet-u-s-actions-to-promote-caribbean-energy-security-access-to-finance-and-food-security-the-white-house/ As follow-up to President Biden and Vice President Harris’s commitments in their meeting with Caribbean leaders at the Summit of the Americas in June 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration is partnering with Caribbean nations to promote energy security, access to finance, and food security in the Caribbean—three areas that Caribbean leaders identified as their top priorities.  President Biden and Vice President Harris agreed at the Summit to establish three High-Level Action Committees, each co-chaired by Caribbean and U.S. representatives to develop concrete, near-term solutions to these three pressing challenges in the region.    Co-chaired by the United States, CARICOM member states, and the Dominican Republic, the Action Committees have held nearly a dozen technical and high-level meetings since June to formulate action plans.   Vice President Harris will meet with Caribbean leaders on September 15, 2022—President Chan Santokhi of Suriname, chair of CARICOM; Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados, co-chair of the finance committee; President Dr. Irfaan Ali of Guyana, co-chair of the food security committee; Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago, co-chair of the energy security committee; and President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic—to review the progress they have made. Taken together, integrated efforts under the Joint Action Plans will leverage high-level engagement, U.S. technical assistance and support, U.S. capacity building and training programs, collaborative working groups, regional conferences, and public-private partnerships to strengthen energy security, improve access to finance, and enhance food security in the Caribbean.   Many of these actions build on and will accelerate implementation of the U.S.-Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis (PACC 2030), an initiative that Vice President Harris launched at the Summit of the Americas to strengthen energy security and climate adaptation in the region.   A summary of key actions follows.    Actions to Promote Energy Security:   The U.S. government will send a multi-agency delegation to the region in October 2022 to develop technical assistance packages and prepare viable energy projects that are attractive to investors. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will host an energy procurement orientation visit for Caribbean officials in October 2022 to share best practices with key stakeholders and support the region’s energy infrastructure development goals. The U.S. Departments of Commerce and State will host a Caribbean regional trade mission as well as business conferences and roundtables in October 2022 to facilitate executive-level matchmaking between project developers, technology providers, and government officials.  Actions to Promote Access to Finance: During Fall 2022, the Administration will continue work to expand access to U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) financing for private sector-led projects in the Caribbean. The U.S. Treasury Department will intensify its engagement with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in Fall 2022 in an effort to expand access to development finance for Caribbean countries, including by exploring temporary access to World Bank Group (WBG) resources for climate vulnerable International Bank for Reconstruction and Development graduates following extreme events, exploring options to expand the use of MDB debt deferment clauses, and launching negotiations to double the capital for the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB Invest). The U.S. Treasury Department will explore U.S. membership in the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), including through consultations with the U.S. Congress and discussions with the Office of Management and Budget and consistent with U.S. standards for membership in multilateral development banks, in Fall 2022. The U.S. government will elevate engagement with Caribbean nations to improve access to correspondent banking, including by convening a correspondent banking working group in Fall 2022, reestablishing the U.S.-Caribbean Public-Private Bank Dialogue in late 2022/early 2023, and helping Caribbean nations establish a single bank to consolidate cross-border flows across the region. Actions to Promote Food Security: The following near-term actions will be carried out under the new Zero Hunger Caribbean Plan.  Conversations will continue regarding additional work in the medium- to long-term under the Zero Hunger Caribbean Plan. As follow-up to commitments at the Summit of the Americas, the U.S. Government is providing the Caribbean with $28 million in assistance to address urgent food security needs.  This fall, USAID will deploy five advisors to the Caribbean region. Consultants will be mobilized in the following areas: efficient use of fertilizer; biofertilizer production; nutrient management; crop insurance feasibility; and to develop an operational logistics and supply chain model to streamline intraregional trade. In response to feedback from Caribbean interlocutors, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting three capacity building training sessions to promote pesticide management and strengthen food security. USAID launched a project in August 2022 and for the next five years will work with Caribbean officials to address non-tariff barriers that restrict the movement of food and exacerbate food insecurity in the region. USAID will launch a climate adaptation project to incorporate climate smart technology into food production systems on/about December 2022.  USAID is actively collaborating with CARICOM and the Dominican Republic to develop the medium- and long-term action plan that will guide ongoing efforts to enhance food security in the region.

They are so obsessed with cutting the flab that they often consult nutritionists to know how many rotis or what amount of paneer or chicken they should eat during a meal. To answer questions related to weight loss, nutritionist Pooja Malhotra has shared an update on her Instagram account. She says our body gives us signals and we need to pay attention to them. One of the signals it gives us is the feeling of fullness after a meal. But how do you identify these signals that our body sends to our brain? Pooja Malhotra said that identifying these signals is “fairly simple”. The first and most important thing to do during a weight loss journey is to put the gadgets, including the mobile phone, away. “Also when you sit down to eat, make that connection between your gut and your brain. Eat mindfully and chew slowly, so that you give your body the time to process what’s happening and give you that fullness signal,” she added in an Instagram video titled, “The secret to weight loss”. Take a look: The nutritionist also shared a pro-tip: never eat 200 percent of your perceived capacity. Sometimes it happens. We tend to eat a delicious and mouth-watering meal more than we need or could digest and then we start feeling uncomfortable. Pooja Malhotra regularly shares tips on how to improve our overall health by identifying what our body needs and how to eat the right food. She recently shared tips to control sugar cravings, a major factor in controlling weight gain. Her measures included: increasing intake of water, using distraction as a tool, and choosing foods that are naturally sweet over those that are made by adding refined sugar. Kyoto University Aims To Build A Buddhist Metaverse Teraverse Crypto Times
Kyoto University Aims To Build A Buddhist Metaverse “Teraverse” – Crypto Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/kyoto-university-aims-to-build-a-buddhist-metaverse-teraverse-crypto-times/ The Kyoto University’s Institute for the Future of Human Society (IFOHS) is developing “Teraverse”, which aims to bring Buddhism to the forthcoming metaverse.  The Teraverse project will bring Buddhist art, philosophy, ritual, and practice to a globally available online community in the metaverse. According to a press release, the Teraverse features temples of all shapes and sizes. Visitors can shoot lasers out of their faces too in this digital landscape. The prefix “tera” can refer to the Japanese term for temple, or the Greek-derived term for trillion used in the metric system. The Teraverse may refer to the online platform for temples to reach new people or the vastness of the upcoming Buddhist digital landscape. Seiji Kumagai, the associate professor of Buddhist Studies and Tibetan Studies at Kyoto University said that the Buddhist metaverse was aimed at offering “new ways to blend traditional knowledge and science.” He further said, “As an option in today’s diversified society, we hope they can bring understanding and enjoyment to people, creating new vitality and hope, and building a more vibrant society.” Before Teraverse, came the “Buddhabot”, which uses AI to interact with users. The Buddhabot is trained on the Buddhist scriptures Sutta Nipata and Dhammapada using Google’s BERT machine learning algorithm. The bot appears on the user’s mobile device screen overlaid on their actual surroundings as captured by the device’s back-facing camera.  Kumagai said, “Buddhist circles face a harsh reality with the income of temples waning, while people’s anxiety and suffering are growing amid the coronavirus pandemic and other crises. We’d like to respond to both challenges by combining traditional wisdom with AI and the metaverse.” Both Buddhabot and Teraverse are not available to the public yet. The developers are being cautious and ensuring that the software and its use of the Buddha image are executed respectfully as they plan further releases of the system.  For more Metaverse related news, subscribe to The Crypto Times. Intel Fights Back Against Apple By Trying To Get Inside Your Head ZDNet
Intel Fights Back Against Apple By Trying To Get Inside Your Head – ZDNet https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/intel-fights-back-against-apple-by-trying-to-get-inside-your-head-zdnet/ Yes, Intel now delivers tacos. (A screenshot from the Intel ad.) Screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/Intel Not so long ago, having Intel inside was such a reassurance. You weren’t completely sure why, but you felt it was good. Then Apple turned on Intel and cast it outside, there to fend for itself without Tim Cook’s beatific benevolence. This wasn’t sad for, say, M1 MacBook Air users. With Apple’s own chips, laptops suddenly had more speed and more battery life. Intel, however, was quite upset. It sniffed that Apple laptop users were entirely clueless. Which seemed a touch extreme. Now the company may have calmed its own heart in order to win yours. It’s just released an ad that tries to persuade you that Intel is inside so very many things. Also: The worst thing about eSIM-only iPhone 14s The ad’s true purpose, however, is to get you back to the bong. Well, four bongs to be precise. The four bongs that used to tell you instantly that Intel was inside your gadget. Oh, perhaps it wasn’t as much of a bong for you as a bum bum bum-bum. Here, though, are so many ordinary, busy, positive people choosing to intone the four notes that were so famous before the Apple apocalypse. When I say ordinary people, I do of course mean ordinary actors and ordinary celebrities such as Aespa, the K-pop band, and Ninjayla, the Twitch ambassador. “,”provider_name”:”YouTube”,”provider_url”:”https://www.youtube.com/”,”thumbnail_height”:360,”thumbnail_url”:”https://i.ytimg.com/vi/veOKlUTsMN0/hqdefault.jpg”,”thumbnail_width”:480,”title”:”How Wonderful Is That? | Intel”,”type”:”video”,”version”:”1.0″,”width”:200}” rel=”true” size=”large” start=”0″ url=”https://youtu.be/veOKlUTsMN0″ You didn’t know that Intel was so young, so cool, and so much everywhere in all sorts of wonderful gadgets, did you? Now, Intel would adore it if every time you see, say, an automatic dog-feeding machine, you performed the four bongs in your head — or preferably out loud. There’s even a pregnant woman staring at her growing child-to-be on an ultrasound screen. Is she moved to think about what the child will be called? I don’t think so. She’s too busy stifling her longing and praising Intel by four-bonging. Autopilots and fast-food delivery robots are also adorned with Intel technology, which will surely make so many well up with gratitude. Also: NASA says space junk is one of the great challenges of our time Especially as, at the end of the ad, Intel pleads for admiration: “How Wonderful Is That?” And really, why not? It’s a perfectly wise strategy to suggest that Intel isn’t just inside dull old laptops — though a couple do make an appearance here — but in all sorts of wild, future-focused piece of technology. The question, though, is whether enough people will still be moved to sing the bong. Or whether it’s all a little passé. Being cool is hard. Being cool for a long time is really hard.

XRP Price Prediction: No, It’s Not A Security And Yes Its Price Could Explode – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/xrp-price-prediction-no-its-not-a-security-and-yes-its-price-could-explode-cryptonews/ The price of ripple (XRP) has barely moved today amid a stagnant market, with its current level of USD 0.336641 representing a 0.5% fall in the last hour and a 0% move in a day. At the same time, it’s down by a very modest 0.3% in a week, up by 2.5% in a fortnight, and down by 10% in the last 30 days. These are hardly awe-inspiring movements for a cryptocurrency that happens to be the seventh-biggest by market cap, yet crypto also happens to find itself in hardly awe-inspiring macroeconomic conditions at the moment. Global stock markets have fallen in the face of negative inflation data, while Ripple continues to fight a nearly two-year-long legal battle with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US, something which conspires to keep XRP’s price suppressed. Nonetheless, hope for a long-awaited end to this legal case has increased in the past 24 hours, after the presiding US court approved joint scheduling proposals concerning the redaction of parts of key SEC documents. When combined with other positive developments and rulings for Ripple over the past year, this suggests that a positive end to this legal tussle may be near, and that XRP could explode as a result. XRP Barely Budges Following Judge Torres Judgment The latest judgment in the Ripple-SEC case has come from Judge Torres, who has delivered several other rulings viewed favorably by people in the Ripple camp in previous months. In this particular instance, she simply approved a plan that had been jointly agreed by Ripple and the SEC, setting out a schedule for summary judgments on key parts of the case. As illustrated in the tweet below from attorney James K. Filan, this schedule runs from now to the end of December. This likely means that the case will not end until the beginning of 2023 at the very earliest. However, crypto-specialized lawyer Jeremy Hogan expressed approval at the fact this plan will speed up the resolution of the case, given that it sets a clear timeline for the delivery important documents and decisions. It shows that both parties now want to bring things to a head, with Judge Torres agreeing with their wishes. But while this is a positive development in the legal saga, it hasn’t really had a tangible effect on the price of XRP. The latter is still down across most timeframes, and also remains 70% down in the past 12 months.  Despite the lack of movement, XRP’s chart shows it hit a bottom some time ago and is now simply biding its time until another rally. Its RSI has been below 40 for much of the past week, while its 30-day moving average remains far below its 200-day. Of course, XRP needs to wait for the overall economic picture to improve before any real gains can happen. But when such improvements do occur, and when the case is finally resolved, its supporters are expecting it to post some fairly eye-watering returns. Will Ripple Win? The big question is whether Ripple will actually secure a positive judgment when the time for a final ruling comes. This is ultimately for the courts to decide, yet previous developments in the case suggest that Ripple has good prospects. In Jananury of this year, Ripple won the right to access important emails from 2018, concerning a speech delivered by the SEC’s William Hinman in which he declared that neither ETH nor BTC was a security. It then secured another favorable judgment in April, in which the court denied the SEC’s right to withhold some of the aforementioned important emails. On top of this, various legal experts have gone on record to say they expect a settlement — rather than a ruling against Ripple — to be the likeliest outcome. This is in addition to positive statements from more crypto-sympathetic lawyers, as well as from Ripple’s own executives.  The future therefore looks bright for Ripple, with the company actually planning to list publicly following the case’s close. Together with the ending of regulatory pressure, and with the relisting of XRP on exchanges such as Coinbase, this could result in the altcoin’s price surging dramatically. In this respect, it’s worth remembering that XRP was one of the few major cryptocurrencies that didn’t set a new record high in 2021, and that still has an ATH dating from 2018. So at the very least, the market could expect XRP to rally to this ATH — of USD 3.40 — in the event Ripple gets what it wants.

For The U.S. Air Force’s 75th, We Look At Its Role In National Defense And How It Can Maintain Its Edge In The Aerial Battlefield – Government Accountability Office https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/for-the-u-s-air-forces-75th-we-look-at-its-role-in-national-defense-and-how-it-can-maintain-its-edge-in-the-aerial-battlefield-government-accountability-office/ Sunday marks the 75th Anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. Established by the Department of Defense on September 18, 1947, the Air Force has played a critical role in our national defense and has also become integral to American air superiority with its fighter jets, bombers, and advanced technologies that will shape the battlefields to come. In honor of the Air Force’s anniversary, today’s WatchBlog post looks at how the Air Force maintains that air superiority, including incorporating leading technologies, and our work on the challenges it could face in these efforts. Equipment maintenance and modern aircraft challenges The Air Force spends tens of billions of dollars annually to maintain its weapon systems and ensure they are available to support today’s military operations and maintain the capability to meet future defense requirements. The Air Force is built around an aerial fleet of fighter jets, bombers, refueling tankers, command and control aircraft, among others. But in a June report, we found that the Air Force has struggled for years to maintain its aging fleet because of lack of parts, maintenance delays, and other problems. In fiscal year 2021, only two of 22 Air Force aircraft met internal mission readiness goals. To help the Air Force address these issues, which impact national defense, we have identified trends in costs and some of the cost drivers—such as the size of their fleets and particular challenges associated with each aircraft. We also found that the Air Force’s efforts to maintain its fleet could be aided by further development of plans to address maintenance needs, including the risks of delaying maintenance and challenges in addressing needs quickly. Moreover, having a plan would provide Congress with a better understanding of current sustainment challenges, and what the Air Force needs to do in an effort to prevent further complications. The F-35 fighter jet is here, but faces challenges To help replace older aircraft and provide advanced capabilities, the F-35 was introduced as the newest fighter jet for the Air Force, Navy, and Marines Corps. It is one of the most modern weapons systems in the world, with stealth capabilities, advanced sensors, and computer network technologies, such as its Autonomic Logistics Information System. But this technology comes with a hefty price tag. The F-35 is one of the most expensive aircraft for the Department of Defense (DOD) to sustain. We found that the estimated F-35 life-cycle sustainment costs since 2012 have increased steadily from $1.11 trillion to $1.27 trillion, despite current efforts to reduce existing sustainment costs. The military services collectively face tens of billions of dollars in sustainment costs that they project will be unaffordable. For example, the Air Force needs to reduce estimated annual per-plane costs by $3.7 million (47%) by 2036, or costs in that year alone will be $4.4 billion more than it can afford. GAO suggested that Congress, among other things, consider making future F-35 aircraft procurement decisions contingent on DOD’s progress in making the F-35 more affordable. In the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022, Congress took steps to limit the quantity of F-35s procured by the military services beginning in fiscal year 2029 based on their ability to achieve affordability cost targets. In April, we testified before Congress that the F-35 fleet’s average mission capable rate—the percentage of time during which the F-35s can fly and perform at least one mission—were well below program goals. One major reason is that an increasing number of F-35s have not been able to fly because they don’t have a working engine. We recommended that DOD should make changes to its F-35 engine sustainment strategy. In addition, we identified numerous uncertainties facing the future of F-35 sustainment that DOD must grapple with in the coming years. The flight path forward The Air Force faces difficult decisions regarding how best to address continuing operational demands while preparing for future challenges. An important aspect of this is determining an appropriate balance between maintaining and upgrading and procuring weapon system platforms. As it plans for the future, the Air Force will need to balance sustaining its existing force with its desire to grow and modernize. We have made recommendations related to readiness, force structure, sustainment and weapon system development, and procurement to the Air Force. DOD and the Air Force have agreed with and implemented some of these recommendations. Continued attention to these recommendations can assist and guide the Air Force moving forward for its next 75 years. Comments on GAO’s WatchBlog? Contact blog@gao.gov.

Microsoft’s $69 Billion Activision Deal In UK’s Crosshairs | Technology News – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/microsofts-69-billion-activision-deal-in-uks-crosshairs-technology-news-the-indian-express/ Microsoft Corp.’s planned $69 billion purchase of computer games developer Activision Blizzard Inc. faces an in-depth probe in the UK after regulators said the deal could hamper competition. The Competition and Markets Authority said it decided to kickstart a longer review after Microsoft turned down the chance to offer remedies to address its concerns. “Microsoft informed the CMA that it would not offer such undertakings,” the regulator said in its decision. The move was expected after the CMA previously flagged concerns the deal could lead to a substantial lessening of competition in the gaming console, subscription and cloud markets. The regulator now has until March 1 to come to a final decision. The combination with Activision — which owns some of the most popular franchises including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero — will make Microsoft the world’s third-largest gaming company and boost the Xbox maker’s roster of titles for its Game Pass subscribers. “We’re ready to work with the CMA on next steps and address any of its concerns,” Brad Smith, Microsoft president and vice chair, said in a Sept. 1 statement.
