It’s been a while since I spent some quality gaming time with my mother, which is probably more than most people can say about their parents. She has always loved sharing my hobbies, but gaming sometimes seemed like a step too far. Yet for the first time, I felt these barriers fall away thanks to the PS5 and its revolutionary Activities feature.
We booted Astro’s Playroom – a platforming adventure that happens inside a fictional replica of your own gaming console. We used Activity Cards for the game, a side feature that comes included with select PS5 games. Not only do these Cards let you track the progress of your objectives, but you also pick up various clues and hints about completing any secrets or collectibles this game has to offer. Before long, it felt like all the obstacles to someone inexperienced with games had vanished.
The Activities are hard-wired into every possible trophy in a given game. Whether these trophies are unlocked by completing stages, finishing certain tasks, or gathering collectibles, there will be a small demonstration video to tell you exactly where to jump, what hidden walls to break, and what innocuous-looking boxes are hiding secret devices under them. You can also pin this video to the edge of your screen to accompany your playthrough without any nuisance to your immersion.
It was as if we had our very own personal assistant guiding us every step of the way. If I see something that’s high in the sky, or some walls that look suspicious in a level, I don’t have to think about whether they are just there for aesthetic purposes or not. With one click I can go to the Activities screen, and learn everything that has to do with that level. I can also skip that level and go back to it anytime by clicking on the activity card, so backtracking is not an issue anymore.
It might be hard to imagine this different perspective for younger gamers, but for complete novices like my mother, who’s not used to handling two analog sticks at once, or multitasking in general, it was a gateway into gaming. She’s the kind of player who has to move first, then jump, and is incapable of moving and adjusting the camera at the same time. For her, the act of gaming itself can be as exhausting as it is fun.
As experienced gamers, we make a lot of micro-decisions intuitively all the time – like moving forward or making a number of calculated jumps at some points – but these things don’t come so easily to everyone. Sometimes, gamers need to have clear and well-defined short-term goals, and the Activities feature whittles gaming down to the simplest of tasks while making them feel rewarding.
Activities provide one pivotal concept to accessibility in modern games: a framework. Sometimes your brain can get overloaded with vast amounts of tasks and quests, which in some cases take too long to accomplish. Activity cards break this experience into small chunks or tasks, and even state the time estimated to complete each of these tasks. They hold your hand with video demonstrations and notifications until you succeed in doing them.
Of course, plenty of games include a similar form of task management and a detailed record of all the available quests along with their requirements and rewards. The difference is that in-game quests like those in Astro’s Playroom give you orders but not solutions, and available hints many not always be clear or tell you what you need to know. Activity cards will show the most optimal way of interacting with the game pieces (Quests. Collectibles, Puzzles, Etc..), and ensure you are always keeping up with these tasks from start to end.
There was a certain icy section where the frozen platforms were so fragile that they would break as soon as you stepped on them. Normally, you would have gone through them a bunch of times until you memorized the route patterns, but for my mother who wasn’t able to multitask between traversal and creating these patterns, this kind of challenge was pretty much impossible. She would end up flustered and confused no matter how many times she challenged this level.
With Activities, that all changed. She learned the pattern of this specific route at her own leisure, and drilled it into her muscle memory. Then she would go about it easily and stress-free.
The gratification I witnessed on my mother’s face when she finished a stage on the first try along with discovering all its hidden secrets resonated with me. With each passing stage, she was getting more and more from her experience with the game. In-game quests tell you the rules but not always the solutions, and hints may or may not give you the full know-how, but Activities give you the pure applied knowledge and only ask you to have fun.
A lot of bad experiences in gaming are borne from blunders and miscommunication between developer and player. Activity cards are an open invite for the player to stop obsessing about the things they find hard or inapplicable, and enjoy the game with much more manageable goals.
There’s a nice Chinese expression that feels apt here: “Borrow a corpse to resurrect the soul” (借屍還魂, Jiè shī huán hún). It means that even if an idea is deemed inappropriate, it can be repurposed in a new way that changes the perception around it. In the same vein, Activities can change the perception of players who have avoided certain games before simply because they were too complex, or because of their own lack of experience.
If activities get integrated into more games, fledgling gamers will spend less time getting confused about the parts they don’t like in a game. Instead, they can focus on the parts they enjoy, opening up to them at their own pace, and most importantly, creating fond memories of the game and the time they spent with it.

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock’s Week 3 blasting of West Sioux caused a shift at the top of two classes in The Gazette’s post-Week 3 Iowa high school football poll.
First, it enabled the Lions to leapfrog Ida Grove OABCIG at the top of the Class 2A list.
Second, it created chaos in Class 1A.
Five different teams received at least one first-place vote among The Gazette’s panel of six. Dyersville Beckman was the lone team to receive multiple No. 1 votes, and enough poll points to assume the top spot.
Beckman compiled 51 points in this week’s voting. Co-No. 2 teams Pella Christian and West Sioux scored 45 apiece.
Pella Christian earned a first-place vote, as did No. 4 Van Meter, No. 5 West Branch and No. 6 Underwood.
West Sioux had been ranked No. 1 in 1A while Central Lyon-GLR was No. 2 in 2A last week. But the Lions’ 44-6 rout of the Falcons caused the top of both classes to shift.
CL-GLR edged Ida Grove OABCIG in 2A first-place votes (4-2) and poll points (56-55). OABCIG had been the top team in 2A since the preseason, and didn’t do anything to lose its spot. CL-GLR simply took it over with three straight high-quality performances.
Defending 5A state champion Southeast Polk assumed the big-school No. 1 slot after last week’s 42-21 win over Waukee Northwest, coupled with West Des Moines Dowling’s victory over Ankeny.
Dowling climbed to No. 2, with Pleasant Valley, Ankeny and Cedar Rapids Kennedy rounding out the top five.
For the fourth consecutive poll, Lewis Central is a unanimous pick at the top in 4A. The next four teams are extremely tight, with Waverly-Shell Rock at No. 2, Cedar Rapids Xavier and Indianola sharing the third spot and Bondurant-Farrar at No. 5.
Harlan maintains the top spot in 3A and is followed by Humboldt, Adel ADM, Mount Vernon and North Polk. ADM tipped North Polk last week, 29-20.
Williamsburg continues to follow the top two in 2A. The Raiders have gotten through the gauntlet of Iowa City Regina, Van Meter and Solon without a scratch, and will be heavily favored to roll through their district. West Marshall and Spirit Lake are fourth and fifth.
West Hancock’s win streak now stands at 16 straight games, and the Eagles remain No. 1 in Class A. Grundy Center and Woodbury Central are tied for second, with Lynnville-Sully and Hartley HMS at 4 and 5.
Remsen St. Mary’s is a unanimous choice atop the 8-Player class. Don Bosco and WACO are tied for second, with Newell-Fonda and Lenox completing the top five.

CEDARBURG — The Cedarburg Mercantile is getting closer and closer to finishing its back patio with a wheelchair-accessible ramp.
Cedarburg Mercantile sells artwork from local artisans of various disabilities and works in tandem with Blossom IDD, a nonprofit that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Owners Cindi and Mike Purnell announced their plans to construct a ramp back in March on Facebook, noting how the lack of ADA accessibility creates a barrier to access for many of their vendors with IDD, who they call their “exceptional vendors.”

The project has expanded since its initial idea, almost doubling in size, said Samantha Bear, executive director of Cedarburg Mercantile and Blossom IDD.
The ramp was expanded and they are planning on adding a handicap parking spot.
“It’s going quite well, the ramp in full is completed,” Bear said. “We’re just in the final phase of the production.”
The railings on the ramp and the pergola still need to be added, along with other final touches. Bear said they hope the ramp can be used by the public by the end of September or early October.
With the expansion of the project comes a larger cost, approximately $100,000, said Bear, which the Purnells are taking on themselves.
The owners are asking the public to donate towards the project to help offset the cost.
So far Cedarburg Mercantile has raised around $1,000 for the project. The business will have a donation jar out during Wine & Harvest Festival Saturday and Sunday.
The Purnells want to thank Josh Elfein of JL Concrete & Masonry LLC, who donated a lot of his time and energy to help them with the project.

Orange Spain claimed to be the first company in the market to open a commercial space in the metaverse, advancing a broader move by its parent group to enable virtual commerce.
Material on Orange Spain’s website explains customers can access the metaverse store on PCs or using VR glasses at home or in its stores.
The virtual space offers access to a commercial area where products and services are displayed, a leisure area with competitions and games, and an amphitheatre for events.
Sales staff in the form of avatars are on hand to advise on products and services.
Orange Spain also indicated it will start selling new Meta Quest 2 VR devices after reaching an agreement with Meta Platforms.
Also on show in the metaverse store are products from Oppo, Honor, Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi and Google.

Instead, investors will need to pay for their Battle Infinity purchase with BNB tokens. With this in mind, this compressive step-by-step walkthrough of how to buy Battle Infinity will be catered to complete beginners.
Note: IBAT has since been listed on the LBank exchange, which is centralized. LBank supports debit/credit card purchases, which might be more suitable for first-timers. However, do note that debit/credit fees on LBank can be high.

Step 3: Transfer BNB to MetaMask Wallet
Now that MetaMask has been set up and the BSc network has been added, the next step is to transfer BNB to the wallet.
The reason for this is that in order to buy Battle Infinity on PancakeSwap, the purchase needs to be made with BNB tokens.
BNB is one of the largest and most trusted digital currencies globally, so most crypto exchanges support the token.
The fastest way to buy BNB is via Binance, as the platform offers a near-instant verification process which then enables investors to complete their purchase with a debit/credit card.
After buying BNB from an online exchange, request a withdrawal.
When asked to enter the destination wallet address, this needs to be obtained from MetaMask.
In the main MetaMask interface, the BSc wallet address can be found below ‘Account 1’.
By clicking on this address, it will automatically be copied to the user’s clipboard.
Therefore, the user can then paste the address into the exchange where the BNB tokens are located, and after confirming the transfer, the funds should appear in the MetaMask wallet within 1-2 minutes.
Step 4: Connect Wallet to the PancakeSwap Exchange
At this point of the process, the investor should have the following:
MetaMask wallet installed and set up
MetaMask connected to the BSc network
BNB tokens showing in the MetaMask wallet balance
As such, the next step is to connect MetaMask to the PancakeSwap exchange.
To do this, visit PancakeSwap.Finance website and look for the ‘Connect Wallet’ button. Then, click on ‘MetaMask. This needs to be done from the same device that the MetaMask wallet is installed on.
The reason for this is that PancakeSwap will now send a notification to the MetaMask wallet, asking for authorization for the connection. After providing authorization, the MetaMask wallet will then be connected to PancakeSwap.
Step 5: Search for Battle Infinity (IBAT)
On the PancakeSwap website, hover the mouse over ‘Trade’ and click on the ‘Swap’ button.
By default, the investor will see that:
BNB is set as the purchase currency. This is correct, so this can remain untouched.
CAKE is set as the receiving currency. This isn’t correct, so we need to change this to IBAT.
Click on ‘CAKE’ to reveal a search box. Type in ‘IBAT’ and click on the relevant result.
This will then replace ‘CAKE’ with ‘IBAT’ in the PancakeSwap order form.
Step 6: Buy Battle Infinity (IBAT)
The final part of the investment process requires the user to set up an order form. This is much the same as buying crypto from a centralized exchange, insofar as the user needs to specify the total trade size.
This can be done by typing in the number of BNB tokens that should be swapped for IBAT. As per the real-time exchange rate, the number of corresponding IBAT tokens will update.
In the image below, PancakeSwap tells us that a 3 BNB purchase will get us just over 240,000 tokens.
To proceed, click on the ‘Swap’ button.
In a similar nature to connecting the wallet to PancakeSwap in Step 4, the exchange will once again require authorization from MetaMask.
After proving authorization, the BNB/IBAT exchange will take place instantly.
Step 7: Add IBAT to MetaMask
Now that the purchase is completed, there is one final step to take. That is to say, the purchased IBAT tokens will not initially display in the MetaMask wallet balance.
Instead, the IBAT contract address needs to be added to the wallet for the tokens to appear.

Clicking on the ‘Import Tokens’ button
Pasting in the unique contract address for IBAT – which is:

The latest inflation data set for release on Tuesday is expected to show that price gains moderated further in August, easing the pressure on households and the Biden administration as falling gas prices paved the way to less financial pain.
But for policymakers at the Federal Reserve — who have been raising interest rates to slow the economy and try to tame recent rapid inflation — the expected cool down is probably not enough to convince them that price increases are coming back under control.
Economists anticipate that prices rose 8 percent from a year earlier, still a rapid pace of increase for consumers but a slowdown from 8.5 percent in July and 9 percent in June. Yet, at the same time, economists project that so-called core inflation picked up slightly in August. That measure strips out volatile food and fuel prices to give a better sense of underlying trends, and it tracks products like clothing and furniture along with an array of services.
The core gauge is expected to climb 6.1 percent in the year through August, compared with 5.9 percent in July. The reacceleration would come partly because the August price gains are being measured against a relatively weak reading from the same month in 2021. When inflation is measured against a lower year-ago number, or “base,” it tends to appear faster.
Omair Sharif, the founder of the research firm Inflation Insights, said the August numbers “will just be a very subtle reminder that we’re not out of the woods yet.”
That’s likely to keep the Fed firmly in inflation-fighting mode. Central bankers are waiting for a sustained slowdown in price increases to convince them that their policies are working to cool demand and nudge the economy back toward a healthy environment in which inflation is slow, steady and barely noticeable. Until that happens, officials have pledged to keep raising interest rates, moves that can slow borrowing, constrain consumer demand and tamp down hiring and wage growth.
Officials are widely expected to make a three-quarter-point interest rate increase when they meet next week, which would be their third supersize move in a row. Policymakers have been clear that they hope to slow the pace of rate moves eventually, but they have said the timing will hinge on incoming data.
“Inflation is far too high, and it is too soon to say whether inflation is moving meaningfully and persistently downward,” Christopher Waller, a Fed governor, said in a speech last week. “This is a fight we cannot, and will not, walk away from.”
Inflation in the United States has started to cool on an annual basis as a result of falling gas prices, but economists are looking for more evidence that the slowdown in price increases will become more widespread and pronounced.
So far, policymakers are receiving glimmers of good news, but the data remain far from conclusive.
Here are a few positive developments, a couple of worrying signs and a big, looming uncertainty that analysts will be paying close attention to in Tuesday’s Consumer Price Index data and in the months ahead.
Good News
Gas and other commodities. Falling prices at the gas pump have been pulling down annual inflation, and some food prices have also been easing, which could eventually seep through to retail prices. That’s good news for consumers, who tend to be sensitive to transportation and grocery costs. But for Federal Reserve officials, lower gas and food prices would be a welcome, but not decisive, development. Because those costs jump up and down, central bankers tend to look past them when trying to get a sense of where inflation is headed.
Cars and other physical products. A more meaningful positive development is taking place in goods prices, which are showing early signs of cooling off. Notably, price increases for used cars, which helped drive the pop in inflation that began last year, are beginning to pull back. Inflation for goods is slowing partly because consumers are shifting their spending away from products they snapped up during the pandemic and back toward services, like restaurant dinners and vacations. It is also partly because supply chain issues that have plagued producers for more than a year have shown signs of abating, though they are not back to normal.
Not So Good News
Services tied to the labor market. Even as price increases for some goods ease, services prices — including the cost of eating out or hiring child care — have been picking up quickly. That could be poised to continue, because those prices are closely linked to wages, which have been climbing notably as a result of a strong job market with low unemployment and worker shortages that span many fields.
Rent. The single most important service category is rent-related costs, which count for nearly a third of overall inflation. For the time being, economists expect those housing costs to continue increasing sharply. There are too few apartments to go around, especially as renters shy away from buying homes amid rising mortgage rates. And a big run-up in rents over the past year is still slowly feeding into inflation.
Uncertainties
War and disruption risk. Economists have repeatedly predicted that inflation was about to decelerate only to have those expectations scuppered. In fact, inflation did briefly recede last summer before rocketing back in the fall. With war in Ukraine still stoking uncertainty about supply chains and commodity markets, central bankers may be slow to declare victory on inflation. And even if price increases begin to pull back, a key question is: How much will inflation slow?
“The bigger question for the Fed is not: ‘Has inflation peaked?’ It’s: ‘What’s the destination?’” said Aneta Markowska, the chief financial economist at Jefferies. She thinks that without a notable slowdown in economic growth, it will be difficult to get annual price gains back under 4 percent. That would be far higher than the 2 percent annual average that the Fed aims for.

The price of gasoline fell steadily in August, easing pressure on American consumers as the cost of filling a tank continued to tumble from record levels reached earlier in the summer.
Regular unleaded gasoline in the United States averaged $3.97 a gallon in August, down nearly 13 percent from $4.54 in July, data from AAA show. The price in August was more than 20 percent below a June 14 peak of $5.02.
Gasoline prices are still higher than they were a year ago, but falling fuel costs were a big reason July’s inflation reading showed that month-to-month gains in consumer prices had stalled — a welcome development for policymakers trying to cool off the economy.
Gasoline prices have dropped for 91 straight days, and the national average stood at just over $3.70 a gallon on Tuesday, but analysts point to a few reasons this streak of declines is unlikely to continue.
Because they’re ultimately determined by oil prices, gasoline prices are also susceptible to everything from hurricanes that knock out drilling in the Gulf of Mexico to efforts to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine by curbing its ability to sell crude on the global market.
As winter approaches, other fuel prices could influence inflation data. The cost of heating a home with natural gas, the most common source of home-heating fuel in the United States, is expected to jump more than 25 percent from last year, to $952 for the six months from October through March, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association.
Stocks rose and U.S. government bond yields fell ahead of fresh inflation data that investors consider the final major data point ahead of the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates next week.
Futures for the S&P 500 rose 0.7 percent in premarket trading on Tuesday. Stocks have nudged higher in recent trading sessions, up 1.1 percent on Monday and gaining nearly 5 percent over the past week.
Investors are increasingly betting on the Fed’s ability to lower inflation by raising interest rates without slowing the economy to the point of tipping it into a severe downturn. Solid data on the labor market earlier this month pointed to the resiliency of the economy after several rate increases this year. Coupled with policymakers’ persistent message that they have yet to complete their task of lowering inflation through higher rates, investors have come to expect another big rate increase, of three-quarters of a percentage point, when the Fed meets next week. For a time, some bet on a half-point increase as the more likely option.
The two-year Treasury yield, which is sensitive to changes in the forecast path of interest rates, fell slightly on Tuesday, but remains near its highest level since 2007.
“It could be after all this consternation and hand wringing that 0.75 percentage points is just priced in and we move on,” said Tim Wessel, an interest rates strategist at Deutsche Bank. “I think inflation would have to move meaningfully to change that.”

New Project: Hyperledger Solang
The Hyperledger Technical Steering committee approved a new project, Hyperledger Solang, which is a compiler for Solidity source code and targets different blockchains. The Solidity programming language is the most popular language for smart contracts, and there is clear interest from many blockchains to have support for it. Although some blockchains emulate an EVM environment to maintain compatibility with Solidity built with Solc, they then cannot access features that are missing from Ethereum. Hyperledger Solan offers the ability to compile Solidity to the native execution environment, opening up access to new features and creating many possibilities for innovation in the Solidity language.

Hyperledger FireFly 1.1 Release
A new Hyperledger FireFly release, version 1.1, includes new functionality that makes it possible for FireFly users to deploy multiple blockchain applications connecting to multiple chains from a single console. The FireFly Supernode now supports two operation modes: Web3 Gateway and Consortium. Web3 Gateway mode configures the FireFly Supernode to connect to a number of chains with transaction orchestration and state indexing. A revamped and expanded connector framework now includes EVMconnect, a robust connector for simple connection management to public blockchains with templates available for Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, BNB Chain, and more. Creation of Hyperledger Cacti

Hyperledger Besu Client Incentive Program Kicks Off
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has opted to include Hyperledger Besu in the Execution Layer Client Incentive Program (ELCIP) to foster the community development of enterprise-grade blockchain software. The program, which kicks off with the Merge, will provide execution-layer client teams with locked ETH in the form of live validators to be released according to certain milestones, including post-merge performance and progress towards enabling withdrawals from the beacon chain.
Hyperledger Besu is one of the top three most popular Ethereum execution clients according to Ethernode. EF is making this strategic investment to engage the Hyperledger Besu community in ensuring a diversity of clients and overall health of the network.

ONDA’s GMV(Gross Merchandise Value) increased by 100% YoY to $81 million in H1 2022. The number already exceeds last year’s total GMV ($76 million).
ONDA, a hospitality tech company, which has the largest accommodations affiliate network with over 42 online booking sales channel partners in South Korea has announced an H1 2022 earnings of $81 million, already exceeding last year’s GMV.
ONDA explained that its revenue doubled compared with 2021, along with a rapid increase in GMV. Both signs point to a healthy momentum for this hospitality tech startup.
ONDA’s growth was made possible through diversifying revenue sources and lowering dependence on small and medium-sized travel accommodations.
For instance, the percentage of sales from small and medium-sized accommodations such as vacation rentals, which made up most of ONDA’s GMV in H1 2019, fell to somewhere between 40% and 50% in H1 2022. During this period, ONDA was able to increase its hotel and resort sales from less than 10% of GMV in H1 2019 to about 30% to 35% in H1 2022. This upturn was accompanied by a boost in luxury accommodations earnings with its high ARPU(Average Revenue Per User), which accounted for 10% of GMV.
Another 2022 milestone for ONDA was expanding its online sales partners. The GDS (Global Distribution System), ONDA’s main revenue source, is a B2B platform that distributes hotel and travel accommodations to 42 domestic and overseas channels. It reported 107% growth YoY in H1 2022.
During the same period, ONDA’s GMV through its global channels such as Airbnb, Agoda, HotelsCombined, and Trip.com increased by 124.87% YoY. ONDA’s D2C (Direct to Customer) business that directly connects travelers and accommodation providers also increased its GMV by 193% YoY.
ONDA Select, a service providing a curated selection of accommodations, achieved a seven-fold increase of GMV in H1 2022. Notably, transactions by foreign users increased by 20%, proving increased demand for inbound travel and signaling the reopening of the Korean travel market.

Economists: petrol stabilisation fund to be scrapped
Economists and industry experts have voiced concerns over the petrol stabilisation fund continuing as a tool to keep prices down, deeming it too ineffective to make a real difference.
It is thought that Viet Nam’s prices will strongly fluctuate along with global prices for the foreseeable future as the country’s petrol supply could only meet 70 per cent of domestic demand.
While a stabilisation fund may suffice in the events of slight increases, it’s inadequate in responding to strong fluctuations. To make matters worse, it has proven to hinder bringing down prices as retailers lack incentives to improve sales during periods in which domestic prices are lower than the international market.
With the immediate target of bringing prices back to VND20,000-22,000 per litre to support business activities and keep inflation under control, they urged the Government to scrap the fund. At the same time, it should improve the country’s storage to the tune of millions of cubic metres, which may ensure a stable supply for up to half a year at the current consumption rate.
Continuous petrol price surges since the beginning of the year had driven prices up, especially in the key transport industry, said the former head of the General Statistic Office and economist Nguyen Bich Lam.
Lam said during the first six months of 2022, road transport costs increased by 5.94 per cent, waterways by 12.91 per cent, sea routes by 14.28 per cent and airways by 18.32 per cent, which had driven CPI up by 2.44 per cent from the same period last year.
According to industry experts, increased storage was a much better approach to price regulation, especially in light of current global volatile prices. However, a glaring weakness in the country’s lack of infrastructure for petrol storage was also a matter that needed to be addressed in any case.
Economists cited several successful models employed by economies around the globe in which strategic commodities such as oil and coal were purchased in large quantities when their prices fell. In the event of price surges, commodities could be used to maintain a stable price level domestically, minimising damage to businesses and the economy.
The method was widely viewed as a proactive and effective way to control petrol prices among international economists.
Experts once again called for the abolishment of special consumption taxes on petrol products. They stressed the importance of bringing prices down below VND20,000 and the tremendous stabilising effect it will bring to business performance and domestic consumption.
In addition, they urged the Government to consider shortening the current price adjustment period from ten to five days to help petrol retailers reduce expenses. Meanwhile, they should also focus on eliminating the middlemen and cutting costs in distributing resources.
Taiwanese firms eye investment in Hai Phong
The Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority (HEZA) on September 12 hosted a meeting with a business delegation from Taiwan (China) to introduce cooperation and investment opportunities in the northern city.
C.Y. Huang, head of the delegation, said Taiwanese businesses are tending to expand their investment globally and they are especially interested in Hai Phong.
In 2022, with HEZA’s support, Taiwanese businesses had a working session with representatives of VinFast automobile factory of Vingroup to expand cooperation in manufacturing spare parts for electric cars, he said.

Authentication system to prevent counterfeiting via QRCode
The Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency (iDEA), under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has put into operation a system of authenticating genuine goods via QRCode at truyxuat.gov.vn, to encourage people and businesses to use solutions to develop products in e-commerce transactions.
According to Do Dinh Tan, from iDEA, the authentication system provides the ability to retrieve information about product origin for consumers when purchasing products.
This will provide consumers with enough information about the origin of products and allow businesses to clarify product information, which helps solve the problem of counterfeit goods and creates great opportunities for the application of digital technologies.
VTR shares under restriction order
The Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) announced on September 13 that Vietravel’s shares, coded VTR, will be traded only on Friday on the Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM).
The HNX sent the order following a negative VND104 billion-plus in the equity of Vietravel, according to the semi-annual review report for the year 2022.
Accordingly, 17,294,833 shares, now sold at VND10,000 each, will be curtailed drastically on UpCoM, estimated at VND172,984,330,000.
The exchange of regular shares resumed normalcy after Vietravel managed to tackle the issue.
Like many other businesses in the travel and aviation sector, Vietravel took a heavy hit from the Covid-19 pandemic and has just revived since the end of Covid lockdowns and restrictions late last year.
In a general financial report in quarter two of 2022, the revenue of Vietravel is some VND1,000 billion, earning VND48.9 billion after tax, an increase over the pre-pandemic period.
However, the subsidiaries of the company saw losses of VND6.9 billion, mainly from the aviation sector.
On September 8, Vietravel Airlines and Asean Cargo Gateway signed an investment cooperation contract to launch a cargo air transportation service, named VUAir Cargo.
Vietravel will hold a 51% stake and Asean Cargo Gateway will fund the balance.
Delisting poor quality shares helps make market more transparent
Delisting shares on the stock market is a tool for market regulators to create a transparent investment environment, and filter and remove poor quality stocks that cause market manipulation, strengthening investors’ confidence in the stock market.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD), since the beginning of this year, 18 companies have cancelled their share listings on HOSE and HNX to switch to the Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM). Notably, there are more than 70 enterprises having their status as public companies cancelled and leaving the stock market.
Huynh Anh Tuan, General Director of Dong A Bank Securities Joint Stock Company, said that many of the delisting cases were related to information disclosure, business results seeing losses for three consecutive years, or accumulated total losses exceeding the amount of charter capital.
When a stock is in danger of being delisted, the stock price plummets and will reflect most of the intrinsic value of the business. When transferring the listing to UPCOM, shareholders will not have much access to information about the business. The UPCOM has low disclosure and financial reporting requirements. Most new businesses will have to publish financial statements after an entire year. However, there are still many businesses seeing their shares increase after switching to UPCOM.
Lawyer Nguyen Thanh Ha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SBLAW Law Firm, said that according to current regulations, shares are delisted, but still meet the condition of a public company, and must register for transactions on the UPCOM system.
Enterprises whose shares are subject to mandatory delisting may only register to list again after trading for at least two years on UPCOM and fulfilling the obligations of the listing organisation.
After a stock is delisted, two cases occur. With shares that will be transferred to other exchanges after being delisted, if they move to a larger exchange, the number of shares held by investors will be converted to the new exchange and traded normally.
If they are transferred to a smaller market, these stocks can still be registered for trading to maintain liquidity. However, if an enterprise’s business deteriorates and there is a risk of bankruptcy, the result will be a serious decline in liquidity.
As for unlisted shares that are not transferred to other floors, it is very difficult for investors to transfer their shares. At that time, there are two ways to protect investors’ interests. That is, the company issuing the shares must spend money to buy back these shares or the State Securities Commission will request that the shares be transferred to an unofficial or secondary exchange so that investors can continue selling them.

As the name suggests, the latest TP09 model focuses on cleaning the surroundings of formaldehyde (CH2O). Most simple yet most reactive of all aldehydes, the colorless gas at room temperature has a pungent smell and is mostly caused by modern furnishings such as wooden products containing (plywood and fibreboard), paint, wallpapers, varnishes, and household cleaning products. Carcinogenic to humans, indoor pollutants can affect nasal passages, respiration, and eyes.
To act on the pollutant, Dyson has equipped the new purifier with a dedicated solid-state formaldehyde sensor that works in sync with a unique catalytic filter to continuously clean the formaldehyde from indoors.
Additionally, the TP09 has HEPA H13 and activated carbon filters that act on dust, allergens, gases, and other ultra fine pollutants, which human eyes cannot see.
Similar to previous Dyson air-purification machines, the TP09 also applies Air Multiplier technology to purify indoor air.

The package contains the air-purifier machine, a set of filters, a quick-start guide, and a remote controller. Installing the filters in the base cylindrical body hardly takes a fewminutes.
Push the carbon filters into place on the machine.
Push the HEPA filter into the outer cover.
Put the outer covers into position on the base and push firmly until they both click securely into place.
Once you plug in the machine to the electricity supply, you can start operating it with the bundled remote or can use the smartphone app.
The Dyson app is available on both Android and iOS and is very neatly designed. All you need is to add the new machine to the application to start using the features. The app allows you to switch on/off the purifier remotely, change modes, check AQI levels, and other critical insights. Besides, you can also change the oscillation angle of the airpurifier, provided that you have enabled the same from the physical remote controller.

Dyson airpurifiers are easily recognizable with their simple yet effective design. Like any previous Dyson air-purifier, the new model also comprises a cylindrical base unit and an elongated oval top with hidden blades that clean the polluted air sucked in by the 360˚ filters beneath. The top portion is capable of up to 350˚ oscillation to project clean air around the room. A small circular LCD is also positioned on the front to offer critical insights about the air quality, filer life, humidity, airflow speed, etc.
As it goes with most Dyson products, the new air-purifier has a solid build quality and looks aesthetically pleasing. The TP09 air-purifier is 105 centimeters tall, 22 centimeters wide, and weighs 4.86 kg. It is available in two colors- White and Gold. The gold color that we are evaluating looks elegant with its dual-tone color treatment. It goes perfectly with wooden furniture and copper color interiors.
Lastly, the curved and magnetized remote controller sits neatly on top of the machine, which is again a smart design approach as losing such tiny remotes is quite common.
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Performance
The most interesting upgrade is the new setup consisting of the solid-state formaldehyde sensor and the catalytic filter that continuously traps and breaks down formaldehyde molecules into water and CO2. According to Dyson, the catalytic filter uses an electrochemical cell to detect formaldehyde molecules – 500 times smaller than 0.1 microns.
To test the performance, we kept the air-purifier in a room with newly kept furniture, which was reeking of apungent smell, mostly because of the formaldehyde. We kept the machine running throughout the night in auto mode. The airflow speed was increased to the maximum to ensure better performance.
Effective Filtration
The next morning, the room had very little or no presence of the foul smell. Usually, the same pungent smell stays for a few weeks and keeps polluting the indoors. According to Dyson, the Purifier Cool Formaldehyde detects and destroys formaldehyde and continuously removes 99.95% of particles as small as 0.1 microns.
The fully-sealed 360° HEPA filter captures 99.95% of ultra fine particles from the air including the PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants. Combined with activated carbon, it also removes odors and potentially harmful VOCs.
No Heater Mode
The new model is priced almost similarly to Dyson’s Hot+Cool air-purifier; however, it lacks the heater mode. The heater mode is an extremely handy feature if you live in a city like Delhi wherein winters can be pretty cold. At its asking price, Dyson could have included the feature in the new mode.
Moving on, Dyson hasn’t specified the exact coverage area of the new model. Based on our experience with the previous Dyson machines and test results of the new mode, it would easily clean an indoor space with a coverage area of 600-700 sq. Ft. The new model would be projecting 290 liters of purified air per second in the room, which is quite impressive. And the air projected also addresses the annoying humidity in the spaces.
No Replacement Required For Formaldehyde Setup
The interesting bit is that the new formaldehyde sensor and the filter never need replacing, so you can rest assured of the replacement process. However, you would be required to replace the regular filters from time to time and they cost Rs. 6,000.
Silent Performance & Diffused Mode
Despite offering the same powerful airflow, the new TP09 model is fairly silent and doesn’t produce much noise. It won’t trouble you with any annoying humming noise, provided that the fans are set to run at medium speed or the machine is set to run at night mode.
Dyson has also added a new ‘Diffused Mode’ in the new model. It is recommended when you want to purify the room, without feeling the cool airflow. The purified air is diverted through the back of the purifier and dispersed into the room, without creating any cooling effect. This mode is recommended in the winter season.
The new Dyson air-purifier also supports voice commands and is also compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri. If you have an Amazon smart speaker at home, all you need is to enable the Dyson skill to control the air purifier. You can also set routines that automate the machine’s synergy with other devices in your home.

By this, we mean that each virtual pet is uniquely represented by a non-fungible token (NFT). As a result, players are motivated to look after their virtual pet with the long-term aim of increasing its capabilities.
The reason for this is that virtual pets in the Tamadoge ecosystem can enter battles. By winning a battle, the player will earn crypto rewards. Similar to other P2E games in this industry, rewards are distributed in the project’s proprietary currency. In this case, TAMA tokens.

Sept 13 (Reuters) – UK’s main index ticked up in choppy trading on Tuesday on gains in commodity linked shares, while mixed labour market data pointed to more headache for the Bank of England looking to rein in surging inflation.
Global investors are also closely tracking crucial inflation figures from the United States ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting next week. Hopes that the reading would add to recent indications that inflation had peaked buoyed Asian markets earlier in the day.
The benchmark FTSE 100 index (.FTSE) rose 0.2% at 8:15 GMT.

Mining stocks (.FTNMX551020) added 1.1% to extend a three-day rally as a weaker dollar boosted metal prices.
Oil majors BP (BP.L) and Shell (SHEL.L) gained 1.3% and 0.8% respectively, as crude prices climbed on concerns over tight supply.
Data on Tuesday showed Britain’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest since 1974 at 3.6% in the three months to July as more people left the labour market, while wages picked up pace adding to signs of price pressures. read more

A research team has confirmed the existence of lonsdaleite, a rare hexagonal form of diamond that could be stronger than conventional diamonds, in ureilite meteorites that originated from the mantle of a distant dwarf planet.
The team consists of scientists from Monash University, RMIT University, CSIRO, the Australian Synchotron and Plymouth University and their research has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
In a press statement, RMIT Professor Dougam McCulloch, a member of the team, said the researchers predicted that the hexagonal structure of lonsdaleite’s atoms could potentially make it harder than regular diamonds, which have a cubic structure. According to scientists, the lonsdaleite may have formed from the collision of the dwarf planet with a large asteroid about 4.5 billion years ago.
“This study proves categorically that lonsdaleite exists in nature. We have also discovered the largest lonsdaleite crystals known to date that are up to a micron in size – much, much thinner than a human hair,” added McCulloch, who serves as the director of the RMIT Microscopy and Microanalysis Facility.
The research produced strong evidence that there the lonsdaleite was formed by a supercritical chemical vapour deposition process that happened on the dwarf planet shortly after a “catastrophic collision.” Interestingly, this chemical vapour is one of the ways used to make “lab-grown” diamonds.
The team proposes that the lonsdaleite was formed in the meteorites from a supercritical fluid that existed at a high temperature and moderate pressure. During the process, the original shape and textures of the pre-existing graphite would have been preserved. Later, after the environment cooled and the pressure decreased, the lonsdaleite could have been partially replaced by the conventional diamond that the researchers also discovered in the meteorite.
“Nature has thus provided us with a process to try and replicate in industry. We think that lonsdaleite could be used to make tiny, ultra-hard machine parts if we can develop an industrial process that promotes the replacement of pre-shaped graphite parts by lonsdaleite,” said geologist Andy Tomkins, who led the study, in a press statement.

— A caller at 11:16 p.m. Thursday reported someone in a late model white Ford minivan with a black stripe struck a mailbox with a baseball bat on Lusk Lock Road in Elk Run Township. The vehicle turned around and was traveling south towards state Route 154.
— Deputies were called for suspicious activity on Latta Road, East Palestine at 4:18 a.m. Sept. 7 with a moving truck in the driveway, lights on and the garage door open. The lights were off and door was located.

— An officer responded to a Main Street business at 10:37 a.m. Monday where an employee reported a man only comes in when she is working and that she did not see him inside the business on Saturday. However, she said he was waiting in a vehicle outside and drove by her saying he thought she had car trouble then left the parking lot in the direction she drives home. A review was sent to the county prosecutor’s office for possible stalking charges.
— An officer responded to a Washington Street home at 2:20 p.m. Friday to check the well-being of the resident after Columbiana police reported she was making threats to harm herself. The resident was voluntarily transported to the Salem hospital for evaluation.
— A Walnut Street resident reported at 1:07 p.m. Friday a man who had dated her mother was continuously bothering her about where her mother was despite being told numerous times she does not live with her and not to return.
— Columbia Gas needed a vehicle moved so employees could work on a pipeline in the 100 block of High Street at 8:17 a.m. Friday. The vehicle plate was expired and the owner was under suspension. The owner had her son move the vehicle and she was warned not to be driving the vehicle herself.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of West State Street at 3:49 p.m. Sunday for a speak with officer. The caller advised her child’s four-wheeler was taken from the residence by her ex-spouse without her permission. The man advised he took the four-wheeler to get it fixed but was unable to provide a shop name or location. Officers advised the four-wheeler was to be brought back to the residence.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Elberon Avenue at 11:58 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check on a man who was reported to be intoxicated and destroying the residence. Officers could not make contact at the door and had to be let into the residence by the caller. Once inside officers learned that the situation was a domestic dispute between mother and son with the mother claiming to have been assaulted by the son. The son denied these allegations and no physical injuries were observed on the mother. The mother refused to provide a statement and signed a refusal to prosecute form. Both parties were separated for the day and told to speak with each other again when they’d both calmed down.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Allen Road at 8:01 p.m. Saturday for a report of a suspicious vehicle driving slowly past a house multiple times. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Plymouth Place at 4:50 p.m. Saturday to assist Salem police with recovering stolen property. Officers were given permission to check the backyard and a detached shed for the property. The property was not recovered.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of West State Street at 10:58 p.m. Friday for a medical alarm. When officers arrived, it was advised it was an accident and everything was fine.
— Officers responded to the area of West State Street and Benton Road at 8:42 p.m. Friday for a report of a suspicious person pushing a stroller in the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
— While on patrol at 7:36 p.m. Friday officers were flagged down by a juvenile who stated he was lost. Officers had him contact his grandparents who he was staying with and stayed with the juvenile until his grandparents arrived on scene and took him home.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 5:12 p.m. Friday for a possible domestic issue. Officers found the matter to be civil and advised the parties of their options.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 1:17 p.m. Thursday in reference to unwanted phone calls and texts that she had been receiving for over a month. She advised she had already asked the person to stop. A report was taken and the woman was advised to block the number and advise further if calls continue.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:27 p.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious person wearing all black and pushing a bicycle. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate them.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Hampton Place at 6:36 p.m. Thursday for a report of possible sexual acts involving a minor. Officers spoke with the caller who only had third party information and took a report. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Allen Road at 1:23 a.m. Thursday for a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that he saw a vehicle enter the field behind his residence. Officers checked the area and all fields within the property, not locating any vehicle or property that was disturbed.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Stewart Road at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a suspicious vehicle driving down the road, stopping and taking pictures of several residences in the area. Officers were advised that this has happened before and when questioned by residents in the area the man advised he was a mortgage broker. Officer checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to Hickey Metal Fabrication at 10:02 a.m. Wednesday for a medical call. The caller advised he believed his live-in girlfriend had poisoned his coffee. KLG was already on scene when officers arrived. The caller stated he had felt fine until he drank his coffee, and officers spoke with employees that work with the caller who advised he had been acting strange that morning and it was not his normal demeanor. Officers retrieved the coffee mug from the man’s vehicle, and KLG transported him to the Salem Regional Medical Center.

During the stop K-9 Simon was deployed and indicated the presence of narcotic odor. Contraband was recovered from the vehicle and a passenger, Marie Selig, 38, was arrested, charged with drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instrument. The driver was given a written warning for the traffic violation.
— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 8:24 p.m. Sunday conducted a stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. During the stop a search of the vehicle found trace amounts of contraband. The driver was given a warning for the equipment violation.

Yet, sure, when you’re looking for a big home to rent with a whole group, it’s one of the best places to start looking. Yet what if you want to have a party trip instead of a normal vacation? Well, then, you’re not welcome any longer.
The whole party ban on Airbnb started during the pandemic. As people were forced to stay at home, as we weren’t allowed to see friends nor family, some tried to avoid the rules by renting a big, remote house and inviting all their friends for a good old party. Resulting in a rise in infections and causing quite a bit of commotion. Because who were these people that were so reckless amidst a global health crisis? Airbnb therefore explicitly started to forbid any parties at their rentals and even after the pandemic, things aren’t about to change. On the contrary.
Party animals, beware
Of course, organizing a party when you’re on holiday is a very fun idea. You get to invite friends and family and with a bit of luck you get to know new people. Yet if you do so in a house that isn’t yours, this can be quite annoying for the owners. Maybe you’re someone who cleans up after yourself but this isn’t the case for everyone – at all. Some even rent a place for the night, just to leave it in pieces the day after, because their party got out of hand.
That’s why Airbnb is now testing a new algorithm meant to eliminate those party beasts. The technology takes into account different data, such as the number of comments on your profile, the average length of your stays, the distance between your home and the location you’re renting… All of these can be indicating you’re just in it for the party rentals and if the algorithm thinks you’re such a party beast, it will now limit the listings you get to see. The tool has already been test running in Australia for a couple of months and – according to Airbnb – has caused a decrease of 35% of non-authorized parties. The algorithm will now be tested in the United States and Canada for further research.

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stocks followed Wall Street higher on Tuesday ahead of data traders hope will show surging U.S. inflation eased in August, reducing pressure for more interest rate hikes.
Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney advanced. Oil prices edged lower.
Wall Street’s benchmark S&P 500 index gained 1.1% on Monday for its fourth daily rise.
Investors were waiting for U.S. government data they hope would say inflation peaked at a four-decade high of 9.1% in June and has fallen further after declining to 8.5% in July.
Such a decline might help the Federal Reserve avoid having to raise interest rates further to a level that might tip the U.S. economy into recession.
The report “will likely show pricing pressure relief but will not change the Fed from maintaining an aggressive stance,” Edward Moya of Oanda said in a report.
The Shanghai Composite Index gained less than 0.1% to 3,253.92 and the Nikkei 225 in Tokyo added 0.2% to 28,614.53. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong rose 0.4% to 19,442.89.
The Kospi in Seoul soared 2.9% to 2,452.69 and Sydney’s S&P-ASX 200 rose 0.7% to 7,013.70.
India’s Sensex opened up 0.6% at 60,504.83. New Zealand declined while Southeast Asian markets gained.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 rose to 4,110.41. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.7% to 32,381.34. The Nasdaq composite rallied 1.3% to 12,266.41.
On Wednesday, the U.S. government is due to report August inflation at the wholesale level.
Fed officials have affirmed support for substantial rate hikes and to keep borrowing costs elevated for long enough to make sure inflation is extinguished.
Investors hope receding inflation pressures might prompt the Fed to back off. Similar hopes earlier were dashed when chair Jerome Powell said in August that rates would stay high.
Surveys show traders expect the Fed this month to raise rates for the fifth time this year and by 0.75 percentage points, three times its usual margin. Then, traders expect the U.S. central bank to hold rates steady through the first half of 2023.
In energy markets, benchmark U.S. crude gained 14 cents to $87.92 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 99 cents to $87.78 on Monday. Brent crude, the price basis for international oil trading, added 9 cents to $94.09 per barrel in London. It gained $1.16 the previous session to $94.
The dollar eased to 142.11 yen from Monday’s 142.73 yen. The euro rose to $1.0150 from $1.0117.

University of Massachusetts Lowell recently took action to highlight its commitment to promoting health and wellness. The university adopted the Okanagan Charter, a document in which post-secondary schools pledge to embed health promotion in all aspects of campus life and culture, and to help lead efforts to further it locally and globally.
UMass Lowell becomes the first New England campus to sign the charter. Created at an international conference in 2015, the charter is intended to give colleges and universities a framework to more thoroughly and systemically promote health and wellness.
UMass Chancellor Julie Chen cited the university’s ongoing efforts to encourage healthy living and general well-being, including its creation of an Office of Student Life & Well-being last year. But she said, “By signing the Okanagan Charter, we commit ourselves to viewing everything we do through a lens of promoting the health of our students, faculty, and staff — from individual practices to the policies we put in place across the university.”

Rebels game called off
COLUMBIANA — The Crestview football team is dealing with having a game canceled for the third straight year.
The Liberty at Crestview game scheduled for Friday was called off due to COVID-19 in the Leopards program.
Liberty is 0-4 and has been outscored a total of 157-34, which includes a season-opening 41-20 loss at Western Reserve.
Crestview coach Paul Cusick said the Rebels are trying to another opponent for Firday.
Rebels, Tigers in state poll
COLUMBUS — Two area volleyball teams are ranked in the first state poll released Monday by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
Crestview is 10th in Division III and Wellsville is 14th in Division IV.
The Rebels are off to a 6-0 start heading into today’s match at LaBrae.
The Tigers are 8-1 and will host United today.
Girard (7-1), coming off a three-game win at South Range last Tuesday, is ranked ninth in Division II.
Southern HOF induction
SALINEVILLE — The Southern Local Athletic Hall of Fame induction breakfast will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Apple just made its most significant update ever to the iOS lock screen, with a lot of features to be excited about. The theme of this upgrade is customization, giving you complete control over the look and functionality of your iPhone’s lock screen.
The new lock screen capabilities are available in iOS 16, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be hitting iPads until next year, likely with iPadOS 17. There are many new wallpaper options, cool effects, Focus integration, and data-rich widgets, to name a few of the new features.

1. Lock Screen Switching
Apple’s iOS 16 lets you create multiple lock screens that you can switch between whenever you want, and you don’t even have to leave the lock screen to do it.
To change lock screens, tap and hold the image, date, or time on the lock screen, then swipe left or right and tap the theme you want. This is the only way to switch between lock screens since there isn’t a switching option in Settings – Wallpaper. However, you can visit the “Wallpaper” settings to add a new wallpaper, which will switch the lock screen to whatever you create.
2. Lock Screen Gallery
To create a new lock screen, open the lock screen switcher. Then, either swipe to the end and choose the “Add New” option or tap the plus button at the bottom. If you only have the one default lock screen, you can select “Customize” then “Add New” from the actions menu.
You can also unlock your iPhone and visit Settings – Wallpaper, then select “Add New Wallpaper. And if you only have the one default lock screen, you can choose “Customize” under the lock screen image, then tap “Add New.”
The new lock screen gallery should appear where you can choose from any wallpaper theme available or a custom one.
3. Real-Time Weather Wallpaper
If you want to see the latest weather conditions whenever you look at your iPhone, the new live weather wallpaper can help. Select it, and it will visually show you the current local conditions in the background, like clouds moving or rain falling, and it will also provide weather stats around the date and time.
4. Real-Time Astronomy Wallpapers
There are also astronomy wallpapers that update in real time. You can choose between seeing close-up details of Earth, the whole planet, close-up details of the moon, the entire moon, or the solar system. As the astronomical conditions change, so will your wallpaper.
5. Emoji Wallpapers
Your wallpaper can also be all emoji if you want. Choose a premade look or select the emoji button. You can switch out or choose between one and six characters to include in the graphic. You can then change the background color and switch between different views, including small, medium, and large grids, rings, and a spiral design.
6. Gradient and Solid Color Wallpapers
You can also pick a new colored wallpaper. There are a few premade options in the “Color” section, but you can also tap “Color” up top to pick your own background color, intensity, and filter. There are bright, deep, tone, vapor, and vibrant filters, as well as a solid option if you don’t like gradients.
7. More Apple-designed Wallpapers
There are more premade options under the “Collections” category. Here, you’ll see the default iOS 16 look, dynamic options, timely themes such as pride and unity, and other designs.
8. Original iPhone Wallpaper
As a special surprise in the “Collections” category, there’s a new clownfish wallpaper. While I say new, the still image of it is pretty old but never was released to the public. It only appeared on the iPhone when Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone, so it’s quite a treat.

9. Photo-shuffling Wallpapers
While you can choose to upload one of your own photos as your lock screen wallpaper, you could select “Photo Shuffle” to make iOS 16 automatically change the background every hour, every day, every time you wake your iPhone, or any time you tap the lock screen. You can choose between a suggested them like “Nature,” use “Featured Photos,” or opt to select images manually.
10. Photo Wallpaper Suggestions
If you want just a single photo to be your lock screen wallpaper, choose “Photos,” You’ll see new suggestions that iOS 16 intelligently picks from your Photos library under the “Featured” tab. You may see other tabs, such as “Nature,” to help you quickly select a suitable background. You can also just hunt for the image you want, like before.
11. Intelligent People Album
While you could always use images of people before for your lock screen wallpaper, now they’re easier to find. On iOS 15, it would not show the intelligent “People” album from Photos when browsing images in the Wallpaper settings. The lock screen gallery in iOS 16 does offer it — select the “People” button to see everyone in your library. You should also be able to find the people category from the “Photos” button.
12. Photo Wallpaper Styles
When using an image uploaded from your Photos library, you can swipe left or right to choose a stylized look for the wallpaper. You can keep the image in its natural state or use a black and white, duotone, color wash, studio lighting, or color backdrop filter, depending on the type of photo and the composition.
13. Multilayered Photo Effects
You may notice that some of the available lock screen wallpapers, and even some of your own photos, contain elements that dynamically overlap the time and date when no widgets are there. The default iOS 16 wallpaper does it, and so does the striped wallpaper and some of the astronomy ones. For your own images, it works best in portrait photos.
This effect works on iPhone XS and newer iPhone models.
14. Date/Time Font and Color Picker
The data and time shown on the lock screen were WYSIWYG before iOS 16. Now, you can change between six different fonts, many different colors, and even characters in other languages. When you change the font color, it also changes the colors of all the widgets (which we haven’t even gotten to yet!).
15. Lock Screen Widgets
Now for my favorite part: widgets. You’ll see widgets already on your lock screen if you choose one of the available designs in the gallery that has them, but you can edit the ones you see whenever you want. Plus, you can add widgets to any lock screen design.
Widgets display frequently updated data from their primary apps. For example, the Weather app has a widget that shows the weather in any you choose, and the Calendar app has a widget to display the date or the next event. You can tap on most widgets when your iPhone is unlocked and on the lock screen to jump you to their associated apps.
You can put widgets above and below the time. The top widget space where the date resides can be customized to include moon events, calendar events, Activity ring progress, and other widget stats. The date will always remain in the same box sans the month name.
The bottom widget space lets you add up to four small widgets. Some medium widgets take up two spots, so you can have up to two of those. Right now, you’ll see only Apple widgets for Batteries, Calendar, Clock, Fitness, Home, News, Reminders, Stocks, and Weather.
However, a lot of Apple’s widgets for the home screen are missing here, including App Store, Books, Contacts, Files, Find My, Game Center, Mail, Maps, Music, Notes, Photos, Podcasts, Screen Time, Shortcuts, Siri Suggestions, Smart Stack, Tips, TV, and Wallet.
16. Third-Party Lock Screen Widgets
Like Apple did with Today View widgets in iOS 8 and home screen widgets in iOS 14, third-party developers can create lock screen widgets for their apps using the new WidgetKit API. Widgets will follow a textual, circular, or rectangular format. A few apps you can try out right away include TickTick and Countdowns.

17. Lock Screen and Focus Pairings
When creating a new lock screen, tapping “Focus” on the wallpaper preview lets you link one of your focuses. You can choose between Do Not Disturb and any custom focuses you set up.
When you link a Focus mode to a specific lock screen theme, it automatically switches to that theme when you turn on that Focus mode. Likewise, if you switch lock screens to another one with an associated Focus mode, that Focus mode will activate.
For example, in the screenshots below, I have Do Not Disturb assigned to one of my color themes. It automatically syncs the wallpaper, font, and widgets to that theme whenever DND is enabled. If you set a specific Focus mode to multiple lock screens, the first lock screen associated with it will be the default.
18. Add New Lock Screens from the Focus Menu
You can link a focus from the lock screen switcher, but you can also do so from Settings – Focus. Tap the focus you want, and you’ll see a “Customize Screens” section that shows your currently assigned lock screens. Tap “Edit” to set another lock screen or remove one, or tap “Choose” if none are assigned yet.
From the lock screen picker that appears, you’ll see suggested lock screens that would work well for the focus, but you can also open the gallery to see more or use an existing lock screen.
19. Add New Lock Screens from Wallpaper Settings
While it’s most convenient to add and switch between lock screens from the lock screen, you can also go to Settings – Wallpaper, where you can tap “Add New Wallpaper” to pick a new background from the lock screen gallery. If you are currently using a custom lock screen, you can tap “Customize” under the lock screen preview to change widgets, colors, and more.
