Professor James Bashkin Honored By American Chemical Society’s St. Louis Section – UMSL Daily | UMSL Daily – UMSL Daily https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/professor-james-bashkin-honored-by-american-chemical-societys-st-louis-section-umsl-daily-umsl-daily-umsl-daily/ Professor James Bashkin’s lab works to develop polyamide drugs that can combat human papilloma virus, which is linked to cervical cancer. Bashkin, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, was the 2022 recipient of the St. Louis Award from the the American Chemical Society’s St. Louis Section. (Photo by August Jennewein) James Bashkin is the son of a physicist and had enough fondness for biology in high school and college that he declared it as one of his two majors. Bashkin never completed that biology degree while studying at the University of California, Irvine. He got too wrapped up in doing chemistry research to finish the double major. “Chemistry was just the level where I connected with science,” Bashkin said. “I didn’t take the last couple of courses I needed for the double degree – which I regret in some ways. But I don’t regret doing the research. That was a lot of fun, and I got a lot out of it.” Most notably, that research was the foundation for a career that has spanned nearly four decades and taken him from industry to academia and back – then back once more. Along the way, he’s made significant contributions to industrial, environmental, biochemical and medical problems, including the development of a green chemistry process, deployed in the rubber chemicals industry, to create an additive used in the production of automobile tires that dramatically decreases the amount of pollution generated from that process. Now a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Missouri–St. Louis as well as the co-founder of the company NanoVir, Bashkin’s research has shifted into pharmaceuticals. He’s been working to develop polyamide drugs that can combat human papilloma virus, which is linked to cervical cancer. UMSL Professor Keith Stine (at right) presents colleague James Bashkin with the St. Louis Award on behalf of the American Chemical Society’s St. Louis Section at an awards banquet last Friday night at Glen Echo Country Club. (Photo courtesy of James O’Brien) The American Chemical Society’s St. Louis Section honored him for his career full of accomplishments by presenting him with its St. Louis Award at a dinner Friday night at Glen Echo Country Club. The St. Louis Award was established with sponsorship by Monsanto in 1970 to recognize individuals who’ve made outstanding contributions to the profession of chemistry and demonstrated the potential to further advance the profession. Bashkin is the 11th faculty member from UMSL to receive the award, and he was nominated by his friend and UMSL colleague Professor Emeritus George Gokel, himself a past honoree. “Jim has had a varied and distinguished career,” Gokel said. “He has worked in industry, he partnered in a startup company, and he is currently an active researcher in academics. He has received a number of significant awards and has worked as a journal editor in addition to his numerous important contributions to the scientific literature. He richly deserved to be recognized with this award, and I was honored to nominate him.” Bashkin was humbled to receive the award. “It’s nice to be recognized by peers in the community,” he said, “so I certainly appreciate it.” Bashkin has been part of the chemistry community in St. Louis since 1985, when he accepted his first job at Monsanto. He’d always planned to go into academia like his father, who was a member of the physics department at the University of Iowa and later the University of Arizona when Bashkin was growing up. That remained his focus as Bashkin earned his DPhil from the University of Oxford , but he found himself suddenly drawn to a job in the industry as he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. “I worked in Monsanto corporate research for six years, and I really learned a lot there and had a very exciting time,” he said. “I had great mentors and friends, including Denis Forster, Sam Tremont, Pat Lennon, John Freskos, Joe Bozell, Wille Rivers, Clark Landis and Dave Sikora.” It was during his time at Monsanto that Bashkin helped invent a new process to make 4-aminodiphenylamine – often referred to as 4-ADPA – which can be used to make antidegradants that are used in automobile tires. The work was done through a joint venture between Monsanto and the European company AkzoNobel called Flexsys, and the new process generated 74% less organic waste, 99% less inorganic waste, and 97% less waste water than traditional methods. It has since been widely adopted around the world and helped eliminate hundreds of millions of tons of waste annually. After six years at Monsanto, Bashkin made the move to academia, taking a position as an assistant professor Washington University in St. Louis, where he focused on inorganic chemistry. Eight years later, in 1999, he found himself pulled into industry and returned to his old group at Monsanto. But the company was about undergo significant changes, merging with Pharmacia & Upjohn, which split its pharmaceutical and agriculture businesses. The pharmaceutical business then completed a merger with Pfizer in 2003. Bashkin remained on the pharmaceutical side of the business through those transitions but found himself laid off – “along with about 5,000 of my closest friends,” he said – in 2003. That’s when he moved to launch his own company, NanoVir, with a virologist Chris Fisher, a former Upjohn-Pharmacia-Pfizer scientist based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The company designed chemicals that bind to viral DNA sequences, disrupting viral DNA maintenance in infected cells and dramatically reducing the viral DNA load of cells harboring the virus. They’ve been directing these DNA-targeting therapeutics toward the treatment of HPV. “It’s nice to have the hope that that we might really make an impact on saving people’s lives and preventing diseases, such as cervical cancer,” Bashkin said. As he was founding NanoVir, Bashkin also reengaged with a research appointment he had at UMSL and started working in a lab on campus. In 2011, he became fully integrated into the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry as a professor and began training doctoral students. The university has proved to be an ideal setting to continue his work. “The students are marvelous for one thing, so it’s really inspiring to work with them,” Bashkin said. He’s also found supportive colleagues throughout the department. “They provide an atmosphere that is extremely enjoyable to work in,” he said. “I can learn a lot from them, and they’re there for me to ask questions of or to collaborate with, and I have collaborated with a number of them on grant proposals, especially with Cynthia Dupureur, whom I’ve published a lot of papers with. There’s a lot of work that never would have happened without the interaction with her.” Many of his UMSL colleagues along with friends, former co-workers and past students were on hand to celebrate with Bashkin at Friday evening’s awards dinner as a related symposium that afternoon on Nucleic Acid Function, Probes, and Therapeutics at Benton Hall. It was the largest award reception in memory. Bashkin expressed gratitude to them all, and to his early mentors. “Being with such outstanding people kept the bar high for me, and always made me try to be better,” Bashkin said. “That helped me achieve a lot of things in chemistry that I might not have otherwise.” Short URL: https://blogs.umsl.edu/news/?p=95401

Sleep: How Does Poor Sleep Affect Your Long-Term Health? – NDTV Doctor https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/sleep-how-does-poor-sleep-affect-your-long-term-health-ndtv-doctor/ In this article, we discuss the long-term effects of a lack of proper sleep.   By: Manya Singh  Updated: Oct 17, 2022 12:26 IST 3-Min Read Lack of proper sleep lowers immunity and makes us prone to infections Sleep helps our body reset, gain energy and get rest. We still don’t fully understand why our bodies require sleep after decades of research. We are aware that not getting the prescribed 8 hours of sleep each night might have a detrimental effect on our health. To perform at its best, your body needs sleep just as it does oxygen and food. Your body repairs itself and rebalances its chemicals as you sleep. Your brain creates new connections between ideas and aids in memory retention. Your brain and body’s processes won’t operate correctly if you don’t get enough sleep. Furthermore, it may significantly reduce your standard of living. In this article, we discuss the long-term effects of a lack of proper sleep. Here are some ways in which lack of sleep affects the body in the long run: 1. Mood disorders When people don’t get enough sleep they get irritated, but chronic sleep loss has also been related to clinical depression and a general lack of enthusiasm. In contrast, persons with depression frequently have erratic sleeping patterns. The hormone melatonin controls both sleep patterns and mood management. In fact, persons with depression and sleeplessness frequently have lower melatonin levels than healthy individuals. 2. Chronic cardiovascular diseases Lack of sleep increases the risk of severe cardiovascular conditions like stroke and heart attacks. The reason for this, according to medical professionals and academics, is that sleep deprivation may disturb brain regions that regulate the circulatory system or result in inflammation that increases the risk of blood clot development. 3. Poor brain functioning Mental abilities can significantly deteriorate when the brain is unable to relax sufficiently over a prolonged period of time. Our capacity to solve problems, control our emotions, and make decisions are all impacted by sleep deprivation. People who lack sleep also struggle with their balance, reflexes, and motor skills; as a result, they are far more prone to get an injury. One of the main causes of auto accidents is drowsiness. 4. Obesity Persistent sleep issues might lead to fast weight gain. Cortisol, a stress hormone, is produced in greater proportions when people don’t get enough sleep, and the ensuing worry, stress, and frustration can lead to emotional eating and bad dietary practices. Another hormone known as ghrelin, which is made in the stomach and has been linked to chronic sleep deprivation, can actually make individuals feel more hungry. 5. Compromised immunity Our immune systems work best when we get enough sleep, just like the rest of our bodies. Long-term sleep deprivation has a similar effect to chronic stress. It can lower your immune system’s response and make you more susceptible to infections, including the common cold and flu. 6. High blood pressure A high rate of hypertension has been associated with getting fewer than 5 to 6 hours of sleep per night. Lack of sleep may exacerbate the negative consequences of stress on the body. As sleep assists our bodies to control the chemicals that create stress. Chronic sleep loss has been linked to elevated blood pressure, a faster heartbeat, and inflammation. Your heart is unnecessarily strained by all of this. Now that you understand how poor sleep can be detrimental to your health., make efforts to ensure you get enough sleep daily. If you are having trouble sleeping, speak to a professional. They can help you navigate how you can sleep better. As poor sleep may cause even more severe issues in the body. Disclaimer: This content including advice provides generic information only. Indian E-Commerce Giant Flipkart Launches Metaverse Shopping Experience TechCrunch
Indian E-Commerce Giant Flipkart Launches Metaverse Shopping Experience – TechCrunch https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/indian-e-commerce-giant-flipkart-launches-metaverse-shopping-experience-techcrunch/ Flipkart has launched a metaverse offering for consumers to discover and shop new products, the latest bet from the Indian e-commerce giant as it experiments with web3 offerings to supercharge its customer experience. The Walmart-backed Bengaluru-headquartered firm has partnered with eDAO, a Polygon-incubated firm, to launch the metaverse offering, which it is calling Flipverse. The offering is in the pilot stage and aimed to garner interest during the festive season this month. On Flipverse, which goes live on Flipkart’s Android app Monday, the company is offering “gamified, interactive and immersive” experiences for consumers where they will be able to collect the company’s loyalty points — Supercoins — as well as digital collectibles from partner brands. At a briefing Monday, Flipkart said “a wide range of brands” including Puma, Noise, Nivea, Lavie, Tokyo Talkies, Campus, VIP, Ajmal Perfumes and Himalaya are partnering to set up experience theaters on Flipverse. “The idea is to have millions of users experience Flipverse and open the doors to the future of shopping,” the company said. The company’s executives acknowledged that its web3 offerings are at an experimental stage, but they said they are confident that it has legs to eventually become a critical part of Flipkart’s future. Flipkart and its chief rival in India, Amazon, are increasingly broadening their offerings to reach new customers in the South Asian market and retain loyal base. Amazon launched a QVC-style livestream shopping in India late last month, bringing an army of more than 150 creators to host livestreams and plug products in the videos. “While we have only just begun to scratch the surface of what’s possible in the metaverse, we see e-commerce as one of the killer use cases. Combining top brands with Flipkart’s e-commerce expertise in a virtual environment stands to revolutionize online retail as we know it. Flipverse will be a vibrant, visible expression of the metaverse, and I’m proud that this activation is taking place on Polygon,” said Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, in a statement. The broader partnership with Flipkart is Polygon’s latest win to attract large brands. The Ethereum scaling platform has partnered with a number of firms including Stripe, Meta and Starbucks in recent months. (More to follow)

Pound, UK Bonds Rally; Stocks And US Futures Rise: Markets Wrap – Yahoo Finance https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/pound-uk-bonds-rally-stocks-and-us-futures-rise-markets-wrap-yahoo-finance/ (Bloomberg) — The pound rallied and UK bonds surged amid expectations that more of Prime Minister Liz Truss’s package of unfunded tax cuts may be reversed. European stocks climbed while US equity futures were higher. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is due to make a statement later on Monday on measures to support fiscal sustainability, a UK official said. It’s the start of what may be a particularly torrid week for UK assets, with the beleaguered Truss battling to rescue her premiership after the Bank of England ended its emergency bond-buying program on Friday. Utilities and energy stocks led gains as Europe’s Stoxx 600 Index climbed. Contracts for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 rose after tumbling Friday amid elevated Treasury yields and expectations for faster inflation. US yields trimmed that move on Monday. A gauge of Asian stocks slumped about 1%, led by technology companies in Hong Kong. The dollar eased against its Group-of-10 counterparts, providing a touch of respite to harried currency markets, with the pound rallying on expectations that Britain may reverse more of its unfunded tax cuts. Traders remained on guard for possible intervention to support the yen, which is near a 32-year low and within reach of the key 150 level versus the greenback. The outlook for consumer prices in the US continues to fuel bets that the Federal Reserve may make jumbo rate hikes at its next two meetings, weighing broadly on the outlook for global economic growth and markets. Against this negative backdrop, investors have to contend with news from Beijing, where President Xi Jinping said China’s global power had increased while warning of “dangerous storms” ahead. There were few signs of any let up in the Covid-Zero campaign or housing market policies that are weighing on the economy. Xi also said China would prevail in its fight to develop strategically important technology amid rising tension with the US. The offshore yuan extended gains versus the dollar after China’s central bank halted its cash withdrawal via medium term loans for the first time in three months in a bid to boost the economy. Fed officials in their latest comments suggested they were ready to hike rates higher than previously planned. Kansas City Fed President Esther George said the terminal rate may need to be higher to cool prices. San Francisco Fed’s Mary Daly said she’s “very supportive” of raising to restrictive levels and to between 4.5% and 5% “is the most likely outcome.” “Sticky, persistent, and broad-based inflation means the Fed has to continue to hike rates aggressively,” Victoria Greene, founding partner and chief investment officer at G Squared Private Wealth, wrote in a note. “Bonds continue to be a difficult investment due to the rapid Fed rate hikes, but we have seen a lot get priced in and market expectations are improving.” Elsewhere in markets, oil clawed back some losses after a weekly slump as fears over an economic slowdown continue to weigh on the outlook for demand. Gold edged up on weakness in the US dollar and as rising fears of a global economic slowdown boost the precious metal’s haven status. Omni3D Gains US Patent For Unique FFF Extruder-Cooling Technology 3D Printing Industry
Omni3D Gains US Patent For Unique FFF Extruder-Cooling Technology 3D Printing Industry
Omni3D Gains US Patent For Unique FFF Extruder-Cooling Technology – 3D Printing Industry https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/omni3d-gains-us-patent-for-unique-fff-extruder-cooling-technology-3d-printing-industry/ Polish 3D printer manufacturer Omni3D has patented a technology called the ‘Omni3D Cooling System’ that enables users to cool their Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) machine’s extruders more effectively.  By stabilizing filament temperature during feeding and deposition, Omni3D says its combined extruder, printhead and assembly system delivers parts with “significantly better quality.” Having been awarded a US patent for the technology, the company now expects it to gain traction in a market with an already lucrative FFF 3D printing sector.  “At Omni3D, we want to deliver the best in class 3D printing solutions needed to produce prints with exceptional dimensional accuracy and stability,” says Paweł Robak, CEO of Omni3D. “I’m proud that we can bring additional value to the 3D printing community, and our product is now approved for the US market. We believe our solution represents an important improvement to the extrusion process.”  A printhead featuring the Omni3D Cooling System. Photo via Omni3D. Omni3D’s FFF printing portfolio  Since being founded in 2013, Omni3D has expanded its reach dramatically, and its client base now ranges from multinationals such as Siemens and MAHLE, to defense contractors like BAE Systems. At present, the firm’s offering includes multiple versions of its Omni200, Omni500 LITE, OmniSTART and Factory 2.0 units, as well as filaments, designed to meet industrial, automotive and educational needs.  With its Omni3D series machines, the company has launched a set of user-friendly systems with scaling capabilities and capacities, so that adopters can choose the one that best suits their use case. While the entry-level OmniSTART has a 200 x 200 x 150 mm build volume and maximum printhead temperature of 260°C, the more capable Omni500 is larger, and its printheads can safely operate at 360°C.  For engineers seeking an FFF 3D printer that can take on more demanding applications, Omni3D’s Factory 2.0 machines are even bigger. These feature 500 x 500 x 500 mm build volumes, and come fitted with enclosed heating chambers. As a result, the Factory 2.0 is capable of creating large-format prints from the engineering-grade Thermec Zed, in addition to ABS and CPFA industrial thermoplastics.  Previously, the firm’s technology has been applied to 3D print prototypes for the Hussarya, a Polish supercar that was constantly redeveloped, going from an initial design to a road-legal GT3 race car in eight years. In more end-use applications, Omni3D has also partnered with the Cyprus University of Technology, to develop a 3D printed biofuel reactor capable of turning carbon dioxide into alternative fuels.  Omni3D’s Factory 2.0 NET. Image via Omni3D. The Omni3D Cooling system Despite FFF being the most popular form of 3D printing on the market, Omni3D says there are still many areas of the technology that require further research. One area in particular that the firm has identified as a nuisance to users is extruder overheating. In the absence of cooling, the company points out that filaments can heat to softening temperature, causing them to deform inside an extruder’s feeding zone .  This, in turn, could lead an extruder’s gear system to ‘bite’ into materials, in a way that effectively changes the amount fed, culminating in inconsistent prints. To get around this overheating problem, Omni3D has come up with a way of cooling the extruder at the point in which the filament is ‘gripped’ between pressure bearing and gear, that facilitates stable and repeatable plastic extrusion.  In the process of doing so, the company discovered that the key to stabilizing extrusion temperatures is improving the working conditions of FFF machines’ knurled-filament-clamp systems. These need to stay cool enough to ensure the right force is used to press filaments into printheads, thus to make this possible, Omni3D has developed an extruder design with a body that also takes the role of heat sink.  Effectively, the firm’s extruder works by absorbing thermal energy via its body, before transmitting this through cooling liquid to a cooler, which ejects any excess heat out into the environment. By creating the system from titanium and aluminum, and bypassing the need for a dedicated heat sink, Omni3D has managed to make it both lighter and more compact, benefits that have also increased its throughput.  At the same time, the extruder works to minimize the risk of materials softening at the wrong stage, reducing the chances of over or under-extrusion, while improving the operation of FFF printers’ motors. Compared to just using g-code material settings, the system is also said to provide users with greater control over filament feed quantity and print accuracy.  “The basic idea of the system was to lower the temperature of the filament in the heated chamber,” explains Krzysztof Kardach, Chief Technologist of Omni3D. “By stabilizing it at a temperature far from being softened, the filament is transported more stably by the extruder to the nozzle. This functionality allows our printers to work with a variety of filaments and allows greater control over the feed pressure of the plasticized filament.” “By cooling the extruder in the place where the filament is ‘caught’ between the pressure bearing and the extruder gear, we obtain a very stable and repeatable amount of extruded material,” he adds. “In the absence of cooling, the filament in the extruder may heat up to the softening point. The heated filament after compression in the extruder may deform from a circular cross section to an elliptical, and the gear will ‘bite’ more; thus changing the effective amount of material fed.” A diagram of the Omni3D Cooling System. Image via Omni3D. A US-patented extruder design  Having integrated this extruder design into its 3D printers, Omni3D has now patented it in the US as well. Awarded under patent number ‘US 2019/0184633 A1,’ the firm’s first patent in the country not only covers its heat-dissipating extruder design, but a modular head assembly system that works to further protect against potential print errors.  In practice, the device’s dual-head layout does so by making it easier to switch printheads, while enabling users to control the softening temperature parameters of two filaments simultaneously. In addition to enabling different types of materials to be used for a part’s base and supports, the system also helps keep them cool both before and during feeding, in a way that yields better process stability.  “Thanks to the use of this patented technology, the Omni3D system is not only one of the most versatile in its application, but through its cooling elements, we stabilize the operation of the entire printer,” concludes Tomasz Garniec, Global Sales Manager of Omni3D. “This, along with the technological aspect, makes equipped Omni3D printers devices that have a greater feeling of the process, and guarantee stability for many hours of printing.”  Nominations for the 2022 3D Printing Industry Awards are now open. Business News At 09:30 Am On 17th October 2022 – The Financial Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/business-news-at-0930-am-on-17th-october-2022-the-financial-express/ Let’s begin. India’s WPI inflation came down to 10.7 per cent per cent in September, from 12.41 per cent in August, aligned with the analysts’ sentiment. The ease off in the wholesale price index-based inflation was primarily aided by fall in the global commodity prices, the data released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry showed. However, despite the cool off, the WPI has remained in double digits for the 18th month in a row, starting from April 2021. The WPI inflation levels have been on a downward trend since the spike witnessed in July when it spiked to 13.93 per cent. On the contrary, earlier this week, the retail inflation saw an upsurge and came in at a 5-month high of 7.41 per cent. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is being investigated by federal authorities over his conduct in his $44 billion takeover deal for Twitter Inc, the social media company said in a court filing released on Thursday, a Reuters report said this week. While the filing said he was under investigation, it did not say what the exact focus of the probes was and which federal authorities are conducting them. Twitter, which sued Musk in July to force him to close the deal, said attorneys for the Tesla Inc CEO had claimed “investigative privilege” when refusing to hand over documents it had sought. In late September, Musk’s attorneys had provided a “privilege log” identifying documents to be withheld, Twitter said. The log referenced drafts of a May 13 email to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a slide presentation to the Federal Trade Commission. Moving on. A total of 65 per cent Indians prefer to invest a part of their income in one form of the other and among all the ways of investment, gold emerged as the popular choice of investment. According to the Axis My India Survey, 53 per cent people preferred gold as an investment tool, 35 per cent of the population showed awareness towards digital gold and 10 per cent had already invested in digital gold. In terms of age group, 15 per cent of people in the age group of 18-24 years showed interest to invest into digital gold. The awareness for digital gold, it maintained, is coming from social media, followed by mass media like TV/print/outdoor, families & friends. “85 per cent of population was aware that digital gold is a new age investment instrument that allows you to invest in 24 Karat Gold, 73 per cent knew that it could be redeemed for physical gold and 64 per cent was aware that it can be purchased at Re 1 through their phones,” the survey said. Now some good news for tech lovers. Xiaomi launched the entry-level Redmi A1 Plus smartphone in India today. The Redmi A1 Plus is essentially the Redmi A1 with a fingerprint reader on the back. You can also get it in multiple RAM options unlike the Redmi A1 which comes in just one configuration at the time of writing. Just like the Redmi A1, the Redmi A1 Plus is designed for first-time smartphone users. It comes with a nice and clean –and attractive— design and clean Android 12 (Go) software for a nice and fluid experience. You get a sizeable 5,000mAh battery in this phone and dual cameras on the back. Xiaomi is also touting features like built-in FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack, and micro-SD storage expansion. In some more exciting news, Netflix is finally launching its affordable subscription plan with ads. The popular streaming service this week announced ‘Basic with Ads’ – it’s first-ever ad-supported affordable video streaming plan priced at $6.99 a month which is roughly Rs 500. The new plan will go live on November 3 at 9am. The company on its blog post said, “Basic with Ads will launch just six months after we first announced the option of a lower priced ads plan. None of this would have been possible without our team’s hard work or Microsoft’s extraordinary partnership. The switch from linear is happening at an ever-increasing speed, with streaming now surpassing broadcast and cable in the US. We’re confident that with Netflix starting at $6.99 a month, we now have a price and plan for every fan.” And lastly, let’s hear how the stock market performed today. Indian equity markets bounced back on Friday, tracking gains is US and Asian markets. The BSE benchmark index soared to a high of 58,435, up over 1100 pts in intra-day, led by strong gains in IT major Infosys, HDFC and HDFC Bank. Both indices surged nearly 2 per cent intraday, but pared gains in the latter half of the trading sessions. The Sensex ended 685 points higher at 57,920, and NSE Nifty 50 index rallied past the 17,300-level in early deals, but finally settled at 17,186, up 169 points.

(Image: Shutterstock) Heart health is extremely important and thus it is necessary that one takes good care of it, read on to know about a few drinks that you can include in your daily diet for the same- Heart health is crucial, yet often ignored aspect of our general well-being. Neglecting the care of this organ is likely to put one at risk of multiple cardiovascular complications. A poor heart could result in serious conditions such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and atherosclerosis. But with a diet rich in nutrients, you can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and promote optimal cardiovascular function. Here are the five effective drinks that help you to boost your heart health: Whole fruit juice When shopping for juice, choose 100% whole fruit juice that has no added sugar. The daily recommended amount is one small glass (equivalent to one serving). You can also purchase a sterol-fortified version, which will aid in the reduction of high cholesterol levels as well as inflammation. The latter is a significant contributor to the development of heart disease. Smoothies If you’re looking for a healthy morning drink, have an antioxidant, protein, omega-3, and fibre-packed smoothie for breakfast. Omega-3 fats found in nuts and seeds have been linked to lower blood pressure and stroke risks. Antioxidants found in blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries help the body rid itself of free radicals- compounds that can harm the body in high concentrations. Fibres found in oats or whole grains have a low glycemic index, which can support a slow rise in blood sugar rather than quick spikes and crashes. Hibiscus tea Hibiscus tea, which is rich in antioxidants, may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It aids in the prevention of free radical damage and the reduction of high blood pressure. Studies show that Hibiscus tea can help lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Allow dried hibiscus petals to infuse in boiling water. Strain, then add lemon juice and honey to taste. And you are done! Green Juice Green juice is a juice made of green leafy vegetables. It can benefit your heart health regardless of whether you make it at home, buy it bottled, or mix a powdered green supplement into water. NEWVILLE –Mifflin County’s girls cross country team was hungry for medals in the Mid-Penn Championships and Tim Cook Memorial races Saturday. In the end, the 14 runners that participated came home with six medals. The varsity team secured a seventh-place finish among 17 Class 3A teams, led by Adeline Leason (20:50) and Addie Parson (21:04), who finished 30th and 32nd overall, respectively. “They continue to run strong for our team and have their eyes on districts, which will take place on Oct. 29 on our home course. I would love to see both of them qualify to head to states on Nov. 5 in Hershey,” girls coach Neil Breneman said. “Amilia Coffey is closing in on our top two as well, running a PR today at 21:30. What I love about Amila is that she is talented, determined, and a hard worker.” Rounding out the scoring were Ava Harris (22:59) and Justice Sheaffer (23:09). The Mifflin County boys placed 11th out of 18 teams in the Class 3A field. The Huskies were paced by Conrad Coffey, the only member of the team to crack the top 50 at 17:43. Studio X Has Served Scores Of Metaverse Newbies, Annual Report Shows – Campus Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/studio-x-has-served-scores-of-metaverse-newbies-annual-report-shows-campus-times/ The basement of Carlson Library houses rollercoasters, a medieval alchemical laboratory, and a futuristic musical lightsaber performance space. Somehow, that sentence is 100% true — and it is all thanks to Studio X, the University’s half-library, half-experimentation zone dedicated to augmented and virtual reality, known together as extended reality (XR). The studio released its first annual report earlier this month recapping the studio’s soft launch year, which was full of projects, workshops, and competitions centered on getting students exposed to these budding technologies and exploring their horizons. According to the report, the space served 529 first-time users of XR technologies and facilitated 520 equipment bookings across 48 departments and six schools in the 2021-2022 academic year. Senior Waleed Nadeem, a Karp Library Fellow and brand ambassador for Studio X, said the exposure for first-timers was a huge achievement. “It is always such an incredible experience when you put on a headset on a new user and see their face light up with wonder,” he wrote to the Campus Times. “Every user has a different emotion before they wear the headset ranging from hesitation to excitement and it’s always fun to hear them shout or laugh when they see the virtual world. Every time a new user wears the headset it allows me to relive the excitement and fall in love with it once again.” Studio X also hosted nine student-led workshops covering a wide range of topics, many with titles descended from clickbait heaven. From a “Create Your Own VR Escape Room” session to “VR Music Composition in Unity” and “Create Your Own VR Flappy Bird” — there was a clear popular audience in mind. Alongside student-led workshops, the report also highlights how Studio X has helped integrate XR technologies into classroom instruction and scholarship. Assistant Professor of Computer Science Zhen Bai, for instance, brought her XR class into Studio X to help them overcome difficulties they had developing programs for VR headsets due to their lack of availability.  However, the report also notes that the studio’s successes came amid setbacks. “Supply chain issues delayed our technology,” Studio X Director Emily Sherwood said in the report. “And like many units across the University, we were short-staffed and had trouble filling positions and finding people with the skills we needed. Although we have assembled a team of dedicated and skilled students, we see our team as a work-in-progress. Case in point: we still don’t have the staff to fully meet faculty needs. Finally, as is true with all new spaces, we discovered physical and technical limitations, which sometimes forced us to rethink our strategies for programming and events.” Nadeem added that he thinks Studio X could be improved if it were given a full dedicated computer lab. Currently the studio has a few desktop computers, but their setup is smaller than the Rettner and IT Center computer labs. Nadeem said he was optimistic about change because the studio is a “student led space.” Overall, Nadeem said he felt the most meaningful work he has done with Studio X is to “represent possibility” for students who may feel that they do not have a role in the growing XR sector. “I am not a computer science major,” he wrote. “I am a business information systems and Digital Media Studies student and if I can make these experiences and work on these novel immersive technologies, then so can anyone else. Studio X is for everyone regardless of your major or experience, all you need is a passion for learning.”

CFTC Action Shows Why Crypto Developers Should Get Ready To Leave The US – Cointelegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cftc-action-shows-why-crypto-developers-should-get-ready-to-leave-the-us-cointelegraph/ Considerable anxiety exists in the world of Web3 related to regulation and the legal status of cryptocurrency projects. It’s particularly apparent in the United States, where the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) fueled concerns in September with an announcement that it was imposing a $250,000 fine on a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), Ooki DAO, and its investors. The fine was particularly ominous, considering DAOs are intended to be “regulation proof.” The CFTC said in its statement on the issue that Ooki DAO’s bZeroX protocol offered illegal off-exchange trading of digital assets. The agency took issue with the fact that the founders, Tom Bean and Kyle Kistner, tried to use the existing bZeroX protocol within the DAO to put it beyond the reach of regulators. “By transferring control to a DAO, bZeroX’s founders touted to bZeroX community members the operations would be enforcement-proof,” the CFTC said. “The bZx Founders were wrong, however. DAOs are not immune from enforcement and may not violate the law with impunity.” The fine is not all that surprising. The CFTC and other regulators are not going to abide by a veil of decentralization. But, there is something within the ruling that is extremely worrying to Web3 lawyers and developers. The agency’s complaint indicated that the voters within a given DAO could be distinctly liable. In other words, no longer will only founders be targeted, as users who take part could also be liable. This is sure to have a chilling effect on turning people away from DAOs and Web3 in general. After all, the whole point is to avoid this kind of targeting and to create new ecosystems where all parties can vote in peace on issues that concern them. Related: Biden’s cryptocurrency framework is a step in the right direction And, it’s not a standalone case. The Securities and Exchange Commission is vying with the CFTC for authority over the world of Web3. Crypto libertarians would dispute whether centralized authorities should have a say at all in an ecosystem that they have only attacked and never aided. The Stabenow-Boozman bill, a proposal in the U.S. Senate, would potentially give the CFTC direct oversight of tokens that qualify as digital commodities. This means that exchanges and online Web3 providers would potentially register with the CFTC, further enmeshing decentralized finance (DeFi) within a centralized web that it was engineered to escape. Monitoring wallets, targeting smart contracts and more The SEC has traditionally sought to regulate cryptocurrency as much as possible. The agency plays a useful role as it is able to pursue instances of outright fraud and Ponzi schemes, which are rampant in Web3. But, there is a stark difference between going after instances of fraud and regulating or governing the industry with regulations that are inapplicable. There are too many question marks related to crypto regulation. One example is related to microtransactions and airdrops. Such transactions take place on many different exchanges over many years, with various price fluctuations. This is impossible to report on from a tax perspective, especially when many platforms are no longer operating. Along with rewards for staking and even derivative tokens liquid staking, it becomes almost impossible to account for. The Biden administration is even targeting Proof-of-Work (POW) blockchains with new “comprehensive guidelines” issued in September. That’s at the same time many administration officials seem to be pushing for a digital USD. Another extremely controversial, draconian crypto regulation that lawmakers have floated includes forcing receivers to verify the personal information of senders when transactions exceed $10,000. They are also seeking to regulate smart contracts as future contracts. And criminal charges are being introduced for those who develop mixers or privacy coins. Though nobody has really said it, what we seem to be witnessing is a war on crypto cloaked in democratic language. The very pillars upon which distributed ledgers have been built are crumbling if these measures are enforced. More conflict to follow? The conflict between traditional regulators and modern finance seems to be reaching a melting point. Regulations are not adapting to meet the needs and strengths of modern DeFi. As such, there is now a standoff between new Web3 protocols and existing legislation. It is almost impossible to deal with the existing legal system as it is not flexible enough to account for DeFi. Ooki DAO is indeed a bad omen for U.S. crypto developers. And it certainly won’t be the last one. A sleuth of bills and procedures are in place. Paradoxically, such actions are likely to simply encourage developers to create programs that are even more resistant to existing laws. The impossibility of complying with existing legislation can leave them with little other choices. Related: Biden‘s anemic crypto framework offered nothing new In one sense, it leaves U.S. crypto developers in the dark regarding what they should develop. From another angle, perhaps the path forward is quite clear. All protocols moving forward may have to be fully decentralized. This was the premise of the very first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC). Without a central point of failure, there is nobody to target. Developers will have to work on building ecosystems that are completely separate with no ties to the legacy financial system. Blockchains free of identity and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) requirements are the only possible option if developers want to continue operating on American shores. That’s something they are going to have to recognize sooner rather than later. Masha Prusso is the founder of Story VC, an entity that invests in blockchain startups. World Food Day US Embassy In Georgia
World Food Day US Embassy In Georgia
World Food Day – US Embassy In Georgia https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/world-food-day-us-embassy-in-georgia/ PRESS STATEMENT ANTONY J. BLINKEN, SECRETARY OF STATE On this World Food Day, food systems and global food security are at a critical moment.  The compounded impacts from a global pandemic, growing pressures from the climate crisis, high energy and fertilizer prices, and armed conflicts, including Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, have disrupted production and supply chains and dramatically increased global food insecurity, especially for the most vulnerable. The human impact is staggering.  At the outset of 2022, more than 190 million people had been driven into acute food insecurity.  The war in Ukraine could add an additional 70 million people on top of that.  Millions are facing hunger and malnutrition. Conflicts are driving unconscionable levels of hunger as violence stops food from getting to the neediest.  Pandemic disruptions to supply chains have destabilized food systems.  High prices and availability issues are reducing fertilizer use.  From the droughts in the Horn of Africa to the floods in Pakistan, we are also seeing how climate change poses a critical threat to our food supply.  Parts of Somalia are at risk of famine for the second time in just over a decade. The work before us is clear.  Only by working together can we overcome the global food security challenges we face.  Earlier this year, the United States chaired a Food Security Summit at the United Nations, which launched the Roadmap for Global Food Security.  At that meeting, we reaffirmed the commitment for world leaders to act with urgency and at scale to respond to the pressing global food crises and avert extreme hunger for hundreds of millions of people around the world.  More than 100 countries have signed on to the initiative that calls on them to take seven actions, which include increasing fertilizer production and investing in climate-resilient agriculture. The United States is leading the way.  Last month, at the United Nations General Assembly, President Biden announced over $2.9 billion in new assistance to address global food insecurity.  That announcement builds on the $6.9 billion in U.S. assistance to support global food security already committed this year.  This assistance will save lives through emergency interventions and invest in medium to long-term food security assistance to protect the world’s most vulnerable population, often women and children, from the escalating global food security crisis. There is no longer any doubt that food security is an issue of acute global urgency.  So, on this World Food Day, let us be true to its theme – Leave No One Behind – because the health, the stability, and the wellbeing of all our people depends on the food security that we build together. Seasonal J’can Farm Workers Embrace Technology In Canada – Jamaica Gleaner https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/seasonal-jcan-farm-workers-embrace-technology-in-canada-jamaica-gleaner/ Ontario, Canada: If the image of farmers on bended knees, manually tending to crops, comes to mind when thinking about the Canadian seasonal agricultural workers programme, then it might come as a surprise that the reality is it is largely mechanically driven. For the most part, Jamaican workers on the farms which JIS News has so far visited while accompanying a team of local fact-finders were observed operating harvesters, pullers, tractors, and other equipment. They indicated that this is a major and welcome shift, compared to recent years. On a 2,500-acre apple farm visited in Simcoe, Ontario, Michael Jones* of St. Ann was seen driving what he said was an apple picker. Headlines Delivered to Your Inbox “It picks up the apples from off the ground – the bad ones that fall under the trees – and we take them to a storeroom where we wash them,” he explained. One of his colleagues indicated that these apples are sometimes used to make juices. Jones pointed out that the machines make the tasks “a lot easier because to bend your back to pick up the fruits is not easy”. He told JIS News that he has been participating in the programme for 18 years and was only introduced to the machine three years ago. Prior to meeting Jones, the fact-finding team spent some time on tobacco and rutabaga farms, where a significant amount of the operations is fully mechanised. Rutabaga is a root vegetable and is a cross between turnips and cabbage. On a family-owned tobacco farm on the outskirts of the city of London, we met Ken Henry* of St. Mary who explained the process of preparing tobacco for shipping. He said to cultivate the suckers, the workers initially utilise a planter and, thereafter, return to the field to fill any spaces that were missed. At the reaping stage, a harvester is used to pick the leaves. “There’s one person in the harvester… and that person would be spreading the leaves and getting them levelled off. The plants go from the harvester to be processed and cured and then to the grading room where the tobacco is compressed and weighed and ready for shipment,” he outlined. The safety of the workers was also observed, with one worker on a rutabaga farm pointing out that whenever his hands are not on the machine being used in the operations at that location, it automatically shuts off. Noting the extent to which machines are incorporated on the farms, at least one observer, Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC) President, Wayne Chen, said that, in future, Jamaican farm workers may need to possess a skills-based background. For Chen, the shift from manual to machines is an opportunity to be seized. Conversely, one of the principals at a decades-old apple farm said for certain fruits, such as apples and peaches which are deemed delicate, a machine will never be able to do the job, at least not in the foreseeable future. He noted that there is a special technique to picking apples, which includes a gentle grasp of the fruit in one’s palm before turning it gently and then releasing it into the bin (container). Retaining the stem is crucial to this process, the employer said. He pointed out, however, that for other fruits, such as cherries, a machine is used to quickly shake the trees and gather the fruit in significant quantities. The seasonal agricultural workers’ programme began in 1966. Minister of Labour and Social Security Karl Samuda established the fact-finding team to assess the status of participating Jamaican workers. *Names changed on request of workers. – JIS

Comcast G4 Is Shutting Down Its Gaming Channel Again, New Internal Memo Reveals Low Viewership – Tech Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/comcast-g4-is-shutting-down-its-gaming-channel-again-new-internal-memo-reveals-low-viewership-tech-times/ Comcast G4 is seeing another shutdown to its gaming channel after the company relaunched it last year, focusing on revamping the famed service available decades before. The latest change is to shut down the G4 gaming channel due to its lack of viewership, as well as not meeting the financial results that the company hoped for the platform. The early reports were able to obtain the memo announcing this shutdown, earlier than when Comcast released it to its team.  Comcast G4 Shutdown: Confirmed via Internal Memo (Photo : Comcast G4) Comcast’s G4 TV is shutting down, and despite the platform still being accessible and available to the public, it will soon cease to exist on the internet for people to use and watch for their entertainment needs. Deadline first broke the news to the public after releasing the internal memo before its employees received it on their end.  The company aimed to return with its G4 platform which capitalized on gaming and pro gamers to showcase its channel to the world. The G4 channel first started in 2002 via linear cable and was canceled in 2012 under the company’s decision as it was not profitable as well. Read Also: Comcast Partners With Charter to Launch a New Streaming Platform in 2023 Comcast Did Not Achieve its Goals with G4 Deadline’s report shared words from Comcast Spectacor CEO Dave Scott, who relayed the bitter news to the company and everyone under G4, regarding its failure to achieve what they want. The company’s goals were not met with G4’s return last year, particularly with a low viewership count, as well as its failure to achieve the financial results it first predicted.  Gaming Channels and their Operations There are only a few gaming channels and platforms available in the world as it is a tough market to penetrate in the current tech industry which people have. It is because there are only a few trusted platforms where users head, and this is where their favorite individuals or groups are streaming their famous showcases online.  There are two top gaming channels in the world, and these are Twitch TV and YouTube Gaming who have been in the industry for a long time now. Twitch was previously acquired by Amazon and is a known platform for gaming and lifestyle streams available to the public with streamers like Ninja, Shroud, Tfue, and more.  On the other hand, the Google-acquired streaming platform, YouTube, holds some of the known gamers and influencers in the world including DrDisResect, PewDiePie, VanossGaming, and more.  There are many competitors in the league, and many platforms to overtake as Facebook Gaming is also a massive channel available via social media. It gave Comcast’s G4 channel a massive obstacle to overcome, something which the company is already struggling to beat with its current offers to the world, especially with its content and offers.  Related Article: Comcast Starts Rolling Out its 2Gbps Internet Service After Two Years of Testing This article is owned by TechTimes Written by Isaiah Richard ⓒ 2022 TECHTIMES.com All rights reserved. Make Organizing Business Travel An Easy With These Useful Tips – Myrtlebeachsc.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/make-organizing-business-travel-an-easy-with-these-useful-tips-myrtlebeachsc-com/ If you have to go away for a business trip, then you need to prepare. Not preparing could be disastrous, especially if you are meeting new clients or investors. A lot of people think that planning a business trip is a lot like planning a vacation, but this is not true. There are far more things for you to think about when you are going away on business, than when you are going on holiday. This post will tell you everything that you need to know if you have to go away on business. Travel Services When you go away on business, booking flights and accommodation aren’t the only things that you need to worry about. You also need to spend time preparing for meetings, planning what you are going to say, and creating presentations. It can be impossible doing all of these things while simultaneously trying to arrange flights. So, according to Telios Travel, who you can learn more about on their website, working with a travel management company often means that you will have a team of experts arranging your trip for you. You can tell them everything you want, like, and dislike. Then, they can make sure that your trip is planned right. Bear in mind that not all travel services are equal. Some are considerably better than others. The best way to determine whether or not the service you want to work with is worth using is to read their reviews. Meeting Preparation As mentioned in the previous section, when you have to go away on a business trip, the most challenging part is preparing for your meetings. Because of how challenging meetings can be with foreign clients and investors, it’s essential that you spend a lot of time preparing yourself for them. Take time to create presentations, write out your speeches and talks, and learn about the people that you will be meeting with. Going into a meeting blind can be a very bad idea. Meet with your bosses to see if they have any specific things that they want you to do or say, too. Notifying Staff If you work for somebody else’s business, then it’s very likely that they will ask another member of staff to join you. More often than not, this is done to make your trip easier for you. One employee is usually tasked with leading the meeting, and the other is usually told to take notes, and bring up any missed points. Your employers will notify staff members for you. If you own your own business and want to bring people, then you will have to tell them that their presence is required. Local Phrases If you don’t speak the language of the country that you are traveling to, then it’s a good idea to take some time to learn local phrases. Doing so can ingratiate you with the people that you meet, and also make traveling a lot easier. It is a very bad idea to travel anywhere if you don’t speak the language because you can’t ask for help when you are in trouble. You can likely take a quick course in the language online. Doing so will make getting around much less stressful. Prepare Electronics It’s very likely that if you are going abroad for a meeting, you will need to use certain electronics, like your laptop. Make sure that you prepare all of your electronics before you leave, so that you have everything ready for when you arrive. Do not wait until the last minute to prepare your electronics. Make sure that you have your USB stick and anything else that you need in your bag at least a week before you plan on leaving. If you have to take anything out, then make sure that it goes back as soon as you are done using it. Travel Documents It is essential that your travel documents are all prepared, too. The worst thing you can do is not prepare your travel documents, because you could then get to the airport and discover that you aren’t able to fly. This could cause serious interruptions to your business’s international relations. Your employers won’t be very happy with you if they have to postpone the meeting, either, and there’s no guarantee that you will be able to get another flight on the same day. Keep your travel documents in your bag along with your electronics. Preparing for a business trip can be hard work, which is why it’s good to hire a travel management service to do it for you. Then, you can focus on everything else mentioned here. Make sure that you prepare for your meetings abroad and a few local phrases. Comments comments %

Christian McCaffrey Not Answer For Rams Who Improve To 3-3 Los Angeles Times
Christian McCaffrey Not Answer For Rams, Who Improve To 3-3 – Los Angeles Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/christian-mccaffrey-not-answer-for-rams-who-improve-to-3-3-los-angeles-times/ If that was a casting call, Christian McCaffrey nailed the part. The star running back’s unspoken message to the Rams was anything but subtle. It was basically, “Come and get me.” The Rams should resist that urge. Yes, their signature move is making splashy, forehead-slapping transactions, doing so to great effect last season in trading for linebacker Von Miller and signing free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., both of whom more than earned their Super Bowl rings. The Rams are living on hope these days, and, with the NFL trade deadline two weeks away, McCaffrey is the Hope Diamond. That’s not to say he’ll wind up in Los Angeles, or that Carolina will trade him at all, although it’s a safe bet the Panthers will pick up the phone and listen. They dropped to 1-5 with Sunday’s 24-10 loss, and their season is beyond salvaging. Take away McCaffrey’s contribution — 69 yards rushing, 89 yards receiving — and the Panthers generated a paltry 45 yards of offense. They fired their coach are down to backup quarterback P.J. Walker and soon will be showing Robbie Anderson the door after the wide receiver argued with coaches on the sideline Sunday and was sent to the locker room before the game ended. Lots of teams would want the versatile McCaffrey. It’s easy to envision him in San Francisco red, Buffalo blue, Philadelphia green. But, as any fantasy football owner will remind you, he spends a lot of time in a boot and on crutches. This was McCaffrey’s 24th career game with at least 50 yards rushing and receiving. Only Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk had more (41). Breathe into a paper bag and calm down, Rams. Yes, you need another explosive weapon. Cooper Kupp can’t carry the entire offense on his shoulders, but this team has a far more pressing crisis up front. It’s six weeks into the season and the Rams have shuffled their offensive line for every game. They’re on their third-string center and their third-string left guard, and they have a right guard who wasn’t even on the team when the season started. If you took the eight top offensive linemen at the start of training camp, only two — Alaric Jackson and Rob Havenstein — have stayed healthy throughout. Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey puts a big hit on Carolina running back Christian McCaffrey in the third quarter. (Luis Sinco / Los Angeles Times) Now, the week off comes at the right time for the Rams because they’ll be getting some good players back, among them center Brian Allen, cornerbacks Troy Hill and Cobie Durant, and — drumroll — wide receiver Van Jefferson, a key target for Matthew Stafford. For all their offensive struggles, the Rams have looked good on defense in recent weeks. The McCaffrey case is complicated. It won’t surprise anyone that the Rams don’t have a first-round pick in next spring’s draft. They famously trade those away and haven’t had a selection in the opening round since they took Jared Goff in 2016. The Panthers probably are looking for a first-round pick for McCaffrey, although it’s almost unheard of for a running back to command that. If that’s the asking price, the Rams won’t be in the mix. The best they have is a second, and they might not even part with that. McCaffrey is due to make $12 million in 2023, so he’s not a half-season rental the way the free-agency-bound Miller was. You trade for McCaffrey and you’re walking down the aisle. That’s not a bad thing; he’s a great player. But it’s a commitment. Moving McCaffrey — not a guarantee but certainly a possibility — also hinges on the expectations of Panthers owner David Tepper. He’s a hedge-fund guy whose whole life is about valuations. He might not see eye to eye with any suitors out there. Another factor that could complicate trades this season is the NFL, and particularly the NFC, is a big mush pot of mediocrity. Look at what happened Sunday. Green Bay was embarrassed at home by the New York Jets. Tampa Bay fell to one-win Pittsburgh. San Francisco lost to Atlanta by two touchdowns. Of the 32 teams, 22 are .500 or worse. In other words, very few clubs are ready to pack it in, call it a season and trade their best players. It looks as if Carolina is ready to do that … for the right price. So should the Rams jump into a bidding war? It fits their profile, and McCaffrey unquestionably would be a dynamic addition to their sputtering offense. But this time they need to take a pass. If they make a trade, it should be to beef up their offensive line or bolster their pass rush. They’ll soon be getting some essential players off the injured list. Let those be their de facto midseason moves this year. Making a splash is great, but only after you’ve proven you can keep your head above the water line.

Jets CB Sauce Gardners Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard ABC News
Jets CB Sauce Gardners Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard ABC News
Jets CB Sauce Gardner’s Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard – ABC News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/jets-cb-sauce-gardners-celebratory-cheesehead-knocked-off-by-allen-lazard-abc-news/ GREEN BAY, Wis. — The surprising New York Jets enjoyed their 27-10 win over the Green Bay Packers so much that they decided to partake in a couple of local traditions on Sunday. They took a Lambeau Leap and celebrated the upset by donning a cheesehead, much to the chagrin of a Packers player. It was rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner who wore the cheesehead, a gift from an ecstatic Jets fan in the crowd. As he strutted off the field and to the tunnel — the wrong tunnel, as it turned out — Gardner was caught from behind, so to speak, by Allen Lazard. The Packers wide receiver knocked Gardner’s block (of cheese) off, creating a moment that went viral on social media. “I’m definitely never going to forget this moment,” Gardner said, laughing at his locker. “It’s a tribute to the Jets fans. They put in on my head, the Jets fans. I just had to take it and run with it.” Lazard took it well, complimenting Gardner on his game and his nickname (“Sauce, that’s a cool name”) and insisting he wasn’t bothered by the rookie’s gesture. “It’s just a little competitive spirit,” Lazard said. “Nothing too harmful in that aspect or anything. I’m sure he probably would’ve done the same thing if I was wearing a Jets hat or helmet walking off their field, so that’s just the competitiveness in me. No disrespect to him.” The corny moment capped another convincing victory for the Jets, who turned a 3-3 halftime score into a one-sided second half. The Jets sacked Aaron Rodgers four times and hit him nine times; they outrushed Green Bay 179 yards to 60; and they became the first team since 2018 to block a field goal and a punt in the same game — scoring on the latter. Who could’ve envisioned this? The Jets won their third straight and improved to 4-2 for the first time since 2015, winning in convincing fashion for the second week in a row. This sort of thing usually doesn’t happen to the Jets. In fact, it was only the second time in the past 20 years that they won by at least 17 points in back-to-back games. The Jets became only the second team in the Super Bowl era to have a winning record through six games despite being an underdog in all six games, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. The other was the 2001 Cleveland Browns. “We believe we can be as great as any team in this league,” New York defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said, adding how the Jets are “showing the rest of this world that this is not just a team you can write off or a team that, ‘Oh, maybe they’ll be good in a few years.’ No, we’re coming to win right now.” Once again, the Jets were led by rookie running back Breece Hall, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. He came became only the second rookie in franchise history to record at least 100 yards from scrimmage in consecutive games. He scored on a 34-yard misdirection play to put the Jets up 24-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. He decided to take a Lambeau Leap. When in Green Bay … “We actually had all talked about it before the game,” Hall said. “We were like, whichever one of us scores, we’ve got to do the Lambeau Leap.  Braxton [Berrios] got the first one, but I don’t think there were any Jets fans on the side he scored.” Berrios gave the Jets a 10-3 lead on a 20-yard reverse, a gadget play that seemed to snap the offense out of its doldrums. None of it was pretty, as the Jets finished with 99 net passing yards and converted only one of 11 third downs. They became the first team to win with only one third-down conversion and fewer than 100 net passing yards, according to ESPN Stats & Information. But the Jets kept grinding, wearing down the favored Packers (3-3) despite a mediocre performance from quarterback Zach Wilson (10-for-18 passing, 110 yards). New York coach Robert Saleh tried to downplay the significance of the victory, saying, “I’ll be honest: It doesn’t mean anything. Just like a loss wouldn’t have meant anything. I’ve said it before: We’ve got to start expecting stuff like this.” As Jets cornerback D.J. Reed said, “I think we’re just getting started. We’re 3-0 on the road. That speaks volumes to everybody buying in. … You definitely feel the confidence. Winning is becoming normal. It’s expected, really.” New York’s defense took over the game, especially tackle Quinnen Williams, who registered two sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal. The Jets sensed that Rodgers was rattled throughout the contest, as he was victimized by six drops. “He was definitely frustrated,” Rankins said. “That’s what we wanted to see. That’s our objective every week, to piss off every quarterback we line up against in a smart, dominant, violent way. I think we were successful in doing that.”

North Korea’s Lazarus Behind Years Of Crypto Hacks In Japan: Police – Cointelegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/north-koreas-lazarus-behind-years-of-crypto-hacks-in-japan-police-cointelegraph/ According to the Japan Government, a common mode of attack for the Lazarus Group was phishing, who are believed to have focused more on crypto funds lately because they’re “managed more loosely.” 538 Total views 40 Total shares Japan’s national police have pinned North Korean hacking group, Lazarus, as the organization behind several years of crypto-related cyber attacks.  In the public advisory statement sent out on Oct. 14,  Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) and Financial Services Agency (FSA) sent a warning to the country’s crypto-asset businesses, asking them to stay vigilant of “phishing” attacks by the hacking groupaimed at stealing crypto assets. The advisory statement is known as “public attribution,” and according to local reports, is the fifth time in history that the government has issued such a warning. The statement warns that the hacking group uses social engineering to orchestrate phishing attacks — impersonating executives of a target company to try and bait employees into clicking malicious links or attachments: “This cyber attack group sends phishing emails to employees impersonating executives of the target company […] through social networking sites with false accounts, pretending to conduct business transactions […] The cyber-attack group [then] uses the malware as a foothold to gain access to the victim’s network.” According to the statement, phishing has been a common mode of attack used by North Korean hackers, with the NPA and FSA urging targeted companies to keep their “private keys in an offline environment” and to “not open email attachments or hyperlinks carelessly.” The statement added that individuals and businesses should “not download files from sources other than those whose authenticity can be verified, especially for applications related to cryptographic assets.” The NPA also suggested that digital asset holders “install security software,” strengthen identity authentication mechanisms by “implementing multi-factor authentication” and not use the same password for multiple devices or services. The NPA confirmed that several of these attacks have been successfully carried out against Japanese-based digital asset firms, but didn’t disclose any specific details.
