Cardano Price Forecast – Can ADA Make A New All-Time High This Year? – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cardano-price-forecast-can-ada-make-a-new-all-time-high-this-year-cryptonews/ Cardano price continues to wallow in the murky waters of the crypto winter about a year after posting an impressive show to its all-time of $3.09. If the current retracement at $0.36 carries on, ADA could broadcast a 90% correction from its historical high. However, robust support between $0.30 and $0.35 will likely come in handy and avert a potential seller-only field day. While such a move would be a major setback, it is doubtful that it will happen, especially with ADA having grown to a noticeable cryptocurrency ecosystem compared to August last year when it tagged $3.09. On the bright side, Cardano is closer to its floor price now than ever since the rains started beating the crypto market in November 2021. Furthermore, the extremely oversold conditions the smart contracts token deals with negates the idea of a continued retracement. That said, Cardano price prediction might not be as outlandish as everyone would hope, yet it could certainly make a new all-time high this year. Cardano Price Prediction – All Eyes Set on A New Record High The IOHK (Input Output Hongkong), the organization that is tasked with building and maintaining the Cardano blockchain, has been busy working on what could be termed revolutionary DeFi (decentralized finance) tech solutions. Cardano recently achieved another milestone with the release of the Vasil upgrade. According to Charles Hoskinson, founder of the network, this software upgrade focuses on scaling the blockchain. The Vasil Upgrade saw the Cardano protocol reach a larger network capacity – supported by lower transaction fees and higher throughput. Furthermore, Cardano is grinding toward another upgrade dubbed Voltaire – which will introduce governance standards. Cardano’s focus on decentralization sets it up for the front-row role in blockchain security and scalability. Over the last year, Cardano technically rebranded from a sleeping to a tech star. In addition to bringing staking to Cardano in the third quarter of 2021, the protocol’s adoption has been aggressively expanding globally among governments and organizations. Cardano price prediction to a new all-time could be rather reserved, considering it rallied 2,300% from $0.12 in July 2020 to $3.09 in August 2021. Such a run-up from the current price will place ADA price slightly above $8.00. It is worth mentioning that in the short term, Cardano price could face restricted movement owing to the current bear market conditions. However, in the next bull run, ADA may have the potential to climb to $15.00. According to Dan Gambardella, an analyst and a Cardano bull, the worst of the bear market is nearly gone, and the only way will soon be to the upside. Nevertheless, Gambardello admits that investors are scared – and are abandoning projects, especially Cardano, oblivious of how close the finish line is. (1) Dan Gambardello on Twitter: “$ADA holders, I think the last year leading to this current moment was the toughest part. Now we prepare for the last leg of the bear market. It will be volatile & crazy, but the clouds will eventually clear and #Cardano will thrive in the next bull cycle. Stay strong & plan.” / Twitter The TD Sequential indicator buy signal on the 3-day chart reveals through a red nine candle that Cardano price could be at the tail end of this downtrend. In other words, there is a tendency for selling pressure to ease, allowing buyers to push the price higher. Traders must, however, ensure the low of the sixth and the seventh candles closed beneath the eighth and ninth bars in the count. Moreover, one bullish candle on the four-hour or daily chart should close before making good on the long positions.   ADA/USD 3-day chart Cardano price is treading in oversold conditions based on the position of the Stochastic oscillator. The OBV (On Balance Volume) will start climbing as the oscillator lifts above 20.00. A bullish divergence from the Stochastic will be necessary to ascertain the validity of the uptrend. ADA has the potential to rally – so is IMPT While Cardano is a must-have on any crypto portfolio, creating room for green crypto like IMPT sets it from the rest. IMPT is the new kid on the block for building an ESG crypto portfolio. The platform, currently in its presale stage, aims at introducing carbon offsetting to the blockchain. Visit IMPT To Learn More

Its Time To Get A COVID Booster Warn Health Experts. Another Tri-Cities Death Reported Tri-City Herald
It’s Time To Get A COVID Booster, Warn Health Experts. Another Tri-Cities Death Reported – Tri-City Herald https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/its-time-to-get-a-covid-booster-warn-health-experts-another-tri-cities-death-reported-tri-city-herald/ Kennewick, WA Another elderly person has died of complications of COVID-19 in the Tri-Cities area as local public health officials say data show a continued decline in the virus in Benton and Franklin counties. The most recent death, announced in the Benton Franklin Health District’s weekly report Thursday, was a Franklin County resident in her 80s. Her death brings the tally of COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic to 728 in the Tri-Cities area, including 220 residents of Franklin County and 508 residents of Benton County. In recent months, 11 or 12 recent deaths in the Tri-Cities area from COVID-19 have been reported each month. But so far in October only one death has been reported by the Benton Franklin Health District. The COVID new case rate continues to drop, falling to 55 new confirmed cases per 100,000 residents of the two counties. That’s down from 116 a month ago. But because so many people use home tests with positive results not reported to the state Department of Health, the new case rate does not include many cases. Public health officials keep a closer watch on wastewater sampling results and hospital admissions to gauge the extent of the coronavirus in the Tri-Cities area. A significant spike in the concentration of genetic material from the coronavirus in samples collected from untreated municipal wastewater in the Tri-Cities was reported Thursday, but public health officials say that appears to have been a one-day anomaly that has defied explanation. There were 20 new hospital admissions for COVID-19 treatment in the Richland, Kennewick, Pasco and Prosser hospitals over the most recent week reported. A month ago 25 new patients were reported. The CDC rates all counties but Walla Walla and Columbia in Washington state as having “low” COVID-19 community levels. Those two counties are rated “medium. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rated the COVID-19 community level in both Benton and Franklin counties as “low” for the fourth week in a row. Walla Walla and Columbia counties were the only counties in the state to be rated as “medium,” with the other 37 counties all rated as “low.” The CDC bases its COVID-19 community level ratings not only on new case rates, but also hospital beds used by patients with COVID and hospital admissions for people with the disease. Vaccination boosters urged Although COVID-19 trends are improving in the Tri-Cities, public health officials remain concerned that the illness could increase just as colds and flu do during the fall and winter seasons. The best way to prevent hospitalization or death due to COVID-19 — particularly for elderly people and those with underlying health conditions — is to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and get the new bivalent booster that targets the current omicron variant of the virus, according to public health officials. Vaccination against COVID-19, including the new omicron COVID-19 booster, helps prevent hospitalization and death from the virus, say public health officials. Matt Rourke AP File The Washington state Department of Health expects the new booster shot to soon be available for children ages 5 and older, following recommendations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the CDC and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup. Now it is available only for people ages 12 and older. Pediatric doses of the new COVID-19 booster should begin arriving in the Tri-Cities the week of Oct. 17, with possibly limited availability for a couple of weeks. Senior staff writer Annette Cary covers Hanford, energy, the environment, science and health for the Tri-City Herald. She’s been a news reporter for more than 30 years in the Pacific Northwest.

Why A Cruise Is The Best Way To See Hawaii TheTravel
Why A Cruise Is The Best Way To See Hawaii – TheTravel https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/why-a-cruise-is-the-best-way-to-see-hawaii-thetravel/ Dreaming of a vacation in the Aloha State? If so, you’re among friends, in fact, millions of friends. Just the island of Oahu, where Honolulu and its famous Waikiki Beach are located, welcomes about a half-million visitors every month. The vast majority arrive by air, and they island-hop by air, too, in a bid to see as much of the islands as possible, but there is a better way to travel among Hawaii’s tropical, romantic destinations, and that’s by cruise ship. It’s the best way to avoid the small plane island-hopping routine, and there’s no packing and unpacking and no time wasted checking in and out of various hotels. And those who worry that they won’t get that total Hawaii experience should fear not since cruise ships offer a wide variety of excursions to Hawaii’s iconic places. Moreover, cruisers can sit back and enjoy the spectacular views that come only with arriving and departing the islands by sea. Multiple Cruise Lines Sail The Hawaiian Islands Travelers have plenty of choices when it comes to selecting the best Hawaii cruise experience. Several lines offer Hawaii cruises from U.S. and Canadian embarkation ports along the West Coast. Princess Cruises, for example, offers 15- and 16-day cruises roundtrip from Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, and once among the islands calls at Kona, on the island of Hawaii, Lahaina, on Maui, and Honolulu. However, like most other cruise lines, several days of the cruise are spent at sea while the ships ply the Pacific between the West Coast cities and the islands. It means that just five days are actually spent on the islands. Holland America Line offers a similar arrangement, selling 16- to 18-day Hawaii cruises from San Diego and Vancouver. It also has a 35-day cruise that adds Tahiti to a Hawaii cruise. Royal Caribbean has a one-way cruise offer, meaning a traveler can fly to Hawaii and board the ship in Honolulu, spend a few days in the islands and then spend five days at sea before reaching Vancouver. Rates for all Hawaii cruises vary based on season, cabin choice, and cruise length. There is only one cruise ship that sails among the islands, roundtrip from Honolulu, all year long, and that is the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America. Pride Of America Cruise Departs Honolulu Every Saturday The cruise ship Pride of America is a 20-year-old ship, but it was refurbished in 2016. Smaller than the new mega-ships coming out of the shipyards today, it carries just 2,200 guests and 927 crew. The ship has several dining venues and specialty dining rooms and seven bars and nightclubs. Its accommodations range from suites to balcony cabins, oceanview cabins, inside staterooms, and studio staterooms. Its inter-island cruise takes travelers to four Hawaiian islands and five ports during the seven-day sailing. Departing every Saturday from Honolulu, Oahu, the ship calls at Kahului, Maui; Hilo and Kona, Hawaii; and Nāwiliwili, on Kauai. An impressive slate of island excursions allows visitors to experience Hawaii in the same ways that a non-cruise vacation would offer. Water sport and wildlife enthusiasts, for instance, can book the ship’s three-hour Captain Zodiac Raft and Snorkel Adventure. The excursion is offered while the ship calls at the island of Hawaii and uses Zodiac Hurricane vessels. The high-speed vessels make their way to the Kealakekua Bay marine preserve, and on the way, it’s likely that participants will see dolphins, whales, and other marine life. The preserve is known for its abundance of coral and tropical fish, perfect for snorkeling. A 4.5-hour trip to Volcanoes National Park, on the island of Hawaii and home to the Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, showcases the dramatic craters, volcanoes, and steam vents that mesmerize visitors. Transported by motorcoach, cruisers will visit the Kilauea Visitors Center to learn about the park and the recent volcanic activity there. Other iconic Hawaiian experiences can be enjoyed through cruise line excursions, such as a traditional luau. Pride of America guests also can opt for a cruise-tour vacation, which provides a seven-day cruise and a land component. How To Be Mindful Of Local Hawaiian Customs Regardless of how one gets to Hawaii, by air or by sea, there are local customs that visitors should keep in mind, including these seven guidelines, from the state tourism authority: Acknowledge the semantics of the Hawaiian language by only referring to things as “Hawaiian” if you’re talking about the indigenous culture and people of Hawaii. A flower tucked above your left ear (the same side as your heart) means that you have a significant other, while a flower tucked above your right ear lets others know that you’re available. Avoid using a car horn while driving in Hawaii (unless it’s meant as a friendly gesture). Don’t remove rocks or sand from a beach or lava rocks from a volcano. Remove shoes before entering someone’s house since virtually all households in Hawaii follow the practice. A lei is considered an appropriate gift for many occasions. Practice humility; things like flashy clothes and name-dropping in Hawaii are typically thought to be arrogant. %

Business Owner Questions Changes To Zoning Ordinance – Times News Online – Tnonline.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/business-owner-questions-changes-to-zoning-ordinance-times-news-online-tnonline-com/ Published October 15. 2022 09:00AM by Terry Ahner tahner@tnonline.com A Lehighton business owner is concerned with how proposed changes to the borough’s zoning ordinances would affect his operation. Robert March, president of Standard Metal Industries, 500 S. 9th St., asked borough council last week if there was a reason why the zoning is changing. Borough solicitor Jim Nanovic said that the borough’s zoning ordinance has been updated. “The borough applied for and received a grant,” Nanovic said. “It needed to be updated.” March said he is worried the zoning changes would affect his business. “This decision would probably adversely affect us,” March said. “It just may not be in all of our best interests.” Nanovic suggested to council that it table the matter to give them the opportunity to make any suggestions on how they’d like to see things changed in writing. Councilman Ryan Saunders assured March the zoning changes are not meant to adversely affect businesses. “The idea is not to hinder businesses,” Saunders said. “We’ll do our best to try to work with you.” After the meeting, borough Manager Steve Travers said a portion of March’s business would change to open space conservation and would match the flood plain. Travers said March’s property under the Municipal Planning Code would be what’s considered a legal non-conforming use, which means that designation would stay with the property as long as they would not abandon the use. He added that all properties that would be affected by the change would also be considered a legal non-conforming use. Council is expected to revisit the matter when it meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 7, at which time it may look to advertise the zoning ordinance for adoption. The borough had received multi-municipal funding from the state Department of Community and Economic Development to update its zoning and Subdivision and Land Development ordinances.

Dietitian Debunks Top 18 Biggest Weight Loss Myths The Epoch Times
Dietitian Debunks Top 18 Biggest Weight Loss Myths The Epoch Times
Dietitian Debunks Top 18 Biggest Weight Loss Myths – The Epoch Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/dietitian-debunks-top-18-biggest-weight-loss-myths-the-epoch-times/ Like all myths, weight loss myths usually have a bit of truth, no matter how small. Below, these truths will be highlighted and examined along with the research to support or oppose these myths. It is important to note that when we talk about weight loss, it’s really a highly individualized process. No two people lose weight in the same way.  A lot of weight loss can be trying to find what works for you and your lifestyle. For example, intermittent fasting can be a great way to lose weight for some, or it can lead to binging and overeating at other meals for others.  There are so many things that can impact the way an individual loses weight, and that is a conversation for another time. Below, see the small truths, and the science, behind these 18 common weight loss myths.  Myth 1: Skip Meals to Lose Weight Logically, this myth sounds like it makes sense: eat less, lose weight. Research shows that skipping breakfast or dinner can lead to eating less during the day. However, that may not be true for most people. After a fast, some people may compensate by eating more later in the day and end up not losing weight.  Myth 2: All Calories Are Created Equal This is false. Some calories are better than others. This can depend mainly on the nutrient density of the calories and foods you eat, as some foods are more nutrient-dense than others. Meaning that for the same amount of calories, some foods contain more vitamins, minerals, and fiber than others. For example, 100 calories of potato chips and 100 calories of broccoli nutritionally are vastly different. The varying compositions of different foods leads to the foods being metabolized in your body in different ways as well.  Myth 3: You Have to Starve Yourself to Lose Weight If a health professional tells you that you need to starve yourself to lose weight, then run away fast. Rapid weight loss by very restricted dieting can wreak havoc on your metabolism, not to mention your body and organs. After times of significant calorie restriction, your metabolism slows down drastically, and weight regain is inevitable. There are better, healthier ways to lose weight. Studies found that beverages like ginger lemon tea and green tea drinks can boost metabolism, promote fullness, and decrease appetite. Try this ginger lemon tea in the morning. Get the recipe. Myth 4: Eating at Night Makes you Gain Weight This is false, but there may be some truth to it. It has more to do with what we eat at night and how much than the mere fact of eating at night. Most people tend to grab a bowl full of ice cream and not a bowl full of carrots for a nighttime snack. So, eating that bowl of ice cream every night might lead to weight gain. It is not the night eating, but what you eat and how much that are the main factors.  Myth 5: Skipping Breakfast Helps you Lose Weight Regarding breakfast, in particular, the research actually states the contrary. Many studies have demonstrated a relationship between breakfast eaters and lower BMI. Like the first myth, the idea is that skipping breakfast will lead you to eat fewer calories throughout the day, over time leading to weight loss. Again, for some people, skipping meals leads them to make up for the calories in later meals throughout the day, which defeats the purpose.  Myth 6: Cut Out Fat Cutting out fat will not help you lose weight, perhaps unless you are using it as a way to lower calorie intake. Fat has more calories per gram (meaning it is more calorie-dense) compared to carbohydrates and protein, which each has about 4 calories per gram. Fat has 9 calories. So, lowering your fat intake can be an excellent way to cut some calories throughout your day, which may result in weight loss over time. Myth 7: Cut Out Carbs This is one of my favorite ones to debunk. No, you do not need to cut out carbs to lose weight. People tend to think of “fun” carbs when thinking of carbs, like pasta, bread, and sweets. And yes, lowering your intake of these foods can lead to some weight loss because they can be high in calories, and we tend to overeat these foods. But there are a lot of other nutrient-dense foods that are high sources of carbs. Fruits, veggies, and nuts are nutrient-dense, critical, and loaded with carbs. Studies show that participants lost weight by consuming several different diets, including low-carb or low-fat, as long as they decreased their calories.  Myth 8: Cut Out Gluten Gluten can be a perfectly healthy part of any diet for most people. Like the answer above, people associate gluten with carb and calorie-heavy foods like pasta and bread. Cutting back on those foods can be an excellent way to cut calories and lose weight, but it is likely not from decreasing your gluten intake that you would lose weight. In fact, the research on gluten-free diets has shown no relationship with weight loss. People who follow a gluten-free diet are also more likely to have nutrient deficiencies like iron and calcium due to the lack of whole grains in their diet.  Myth 9: Diet Soda Helps You Lose Weight This question is the source of a lot of research today. This one, again, logically makes sense. Switching to a diet soda from a regular soda can decrease the calories you consume in a day. However, the research tells another story. In this review (a paper that analyzes a bunch of studies all at once), swapping out regular soda for diet soda had no impact on a person’s weight. In fact, some studies showed diet soda intake was associated with weight gain! And this could be for several reasons that deserve its own article to explain. The bottom line is, switching to diet soda is likely not a good strategy for weight loss. And, unfortunately, even though it is boring, water will always be your best option.  Myth 10: Juice Cleanses Work Many try juice cleanses believing it will eliminate the “toxins” that build up in your body. Actually, you have organs, your liver and kidneys, which do a pretty good job of that! There is also little to no research on juice cleanses, and the research out there does not favor juice cleanses. They can lead to macronutrient deficiencies (your body not getting the carbs, fat, and protein it needs), and malnutrition. There are other, healthier ways to lose weight than starving your body of the nutrients it needs! Myth 11: Fast Intermittently to Lose Weight This is a great example of something that may work for some people but not others. In studies, as long as participants maintained a lower-calorie diet or slight calorie restriction, they lost weight. However, there is a lot of individual variation, meaning a large range of weight changes. Most of these studies have relatively few people and are not over a long period, meaning we need to take these results with a grain of salt. So, intermittent fasting can be something you try and see if it works for you and your lifestyle.  Myth 12: The Keto Diet is the Solution Fat can have some incredible benefits and is essential to the health of our brains and other organs. However, eating the amount of fat needed for ketosis can negatively impact your health. In addition, to achieve ketosis, you need to lower your carb intake to under 50 grams a day. To put it into perspective, that is one small muffin (about 60 grams) of carbs daily! While weight loss results have been promising in the short term, an overly restrictive diet like this is hard to maintain over a long time. Myth 13: ‘Hack’ Your Body to Lose Weight This is the idea that you can “defeat” biology. While the science of “hacking” your biology is a little shaky, the proposed solutions boil down to general recommendations for healthy living. This includes eating a balanced diet, getting plenty of exercise, and getting adequate sleep. All of these are great recommendations for weight reduction and a healthy lifestyle. In addition, there is a lack of research on this topic so I would interpret everything on this topic with a grain of salt. Myth 14: You Must Go On a Diet This word is often misused. It really just refers to the way you eat. So yes, you have to eat a certain way to lose weight, but this does not have to be keto, intermittent fasting, or a juice cleanse. You can just try to eat a little healthier and add some fruits, veggies, and lean proteins, all in the right amounts for your body. If you want to call that a diet, then go for it! Research shows protein can boost metabolism by 80 to 100 calories per day, reduce cravings by 60 percent, and help you eat up to 441 fewer calories per day. One study suggests your metabolic rate temporarily increases more after eating protein-rich foods, such as salmon, compared with fat and carbohydrates. For a flavorful weekday dinner, try this Mediterranean Salmon Provencal. Get the recipe. Myth 15: ‘Cheat’ Days Help The idea of “cheat days” is still an area for further research, but it stands that cheat meals can make your diet a more sustainable one. An excellent way to think about it is by following the 80/20 rule for daily or weekly meals. Focus on making 80 percent of what you eat healthful and nutrient-dense, while 20 percent can be your more calorie-dense treats. Make sure during that 20 percent you are still trying to eat portions that are right for your body, but go easy on yourself if you eat a little more. Some people can experience episodes of binging during cheat meals, so it is important to maintain a mindful approach to your cheat meals.  Myth 16: Cut Out Booze to Lose Weight Alcohol could lead to gaining weight in a couple different ways, which typically apply to heavier drinkers. Alcohol itself contains calories. In addition to the sugar usually associated with our favorite drinks, having several drinks in one night could add hundreds of calories to your daily i...

What Channel Is Alabama Vs. Tennessee On Today? Time TV Schedule For Week 7 College Football Game Sporting News
What Channel Is Alabama Vs. Tennessee On Today? Time, TV Schedule For Week 7 College Football Game – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-channel-is-alabama-vs-tennessee-on-today-time-tv-schedule-for-week-7-college-football-game-sporting-news/ It has been quite some time since the “Third Saturday in October” has featured stakes this high between Alabama and Tennessee. The third-ranked, undefeated Crimson Tide will travel to Neyland Stadium to take on sixth-ranked, also unbeaten Tennessee. It is the first time since 2016, when No. 9 Tennessee lost 49-10 to top-ranked Alabama, that the rivals have met as top-10 teams. It’s also the first time since the 1989 season — 33 years ago — that these teams meet as undefeated opponents. A Tennessee victory on Saturday would be the first since 2006, and the Volunteers’ first over Alabama since Nick Saban arrived in 2007. It would also represent their first 6-0 start since 1998, a season in which they won the inaugural BCS championship. Expect Neyland Stadium to be raucous when Saban and Co. come to town. MORE: Watch Alabama vs. Tennessee A&M live with fuboTV (free trial) This meeting also pits together a fascinating quarterback battle — potentially. Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker is a Heisman Trophy candidate at this point in the season, completing 70 percent of his passes for 1,432 yards and 10 touchdowns, adding another 231 rushing yards and three more scores. He could potentially be in a high-powered quarterback duel with Alabama’s Bryce Young, the defending Heisman winner. However, his status for the game is still questionable after suffering an AC sprain to his throwing shoulder in a Week 5 victory over Arkansas. If he can’t go, Jalen Milroe will get his second start of the season. TROCCHI: Tennessee is primed to finally seize the moment against Alabama With that, The Sporting News looks at how to watch one of the most pivotal “Third Saturday in October” meetings in some time: What channel is Alabama vs. Tennessee on today? TV channel (national): CBS Live stream: Paramount+, fuboTV The cross-divisional rivalry between Alabama and Tennessee will be broadcast nationally on CBS. Gary Danielson and Brad Nessler will call the game from the booth while Jamie Erdahl works as a sideline reporter. New Metaverse Video Game Hometopia Aims To Become “Roblox For Adults” – Crypto News Flash https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/new-metaverse-video-game-hometopia-aims-to-become-roblox-for-adults-crypto-news-flash/ New York, NY, October 2022 – Everyrealm, the metaverse technology company backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase, and the Weeknd, is joining forces with a video game called Hometopia to launch the world’s first mainstream metaverse game for home design, building, and renovating virtual real estate.  Hometopia is a free-to-play video game that allows players to build their ideal homes and communities alongside friends. Unlike traditional video games, Hometopia players are given true ownership of everything they build and acquire.  “Hometopia will capture those looking for a more realistic home design and world creation game as they age out of the homebuilding games they loved as a kid. Hometopia stands to become this generation’s The Sims, one of the best-selling PC games of all time, which sold more than 11 million copies generating more than $5 billion in revenue,” says Alex Ahlund, founder and developer of Hometopia. Hometopia’s game mechanics resemble some of the most popular home design games in Roblox, such as Bloxburg and Brookhaven. Bloxburg, which was released in 2015, has amassed over five billion visits and been favorited more than 11 million times. Brookhaven, another Roblox-based home building simulation game, routinely has over 450,000+ concurrent users.  Janine Yorio, CEO of Everyrealm, said, “As a gamified combination of Pinterest, Houzz and Wayfair, Hometopia is poised to capture those looking for more adult-versions of Roblox interior design games they grew to love as children, and will particularly appeal to a female demographic that has been overlooked by most metaverse gaming projects but which represents a disproportionate amount of spending power.”  Everyrealm is best known for its vast and diverse metaverse real estate holdings and successful metaverse projects including Fantasy Islands and The Row. Backed by Polygon, Forte, and Overwolf, Hometopia is a project led by Alex Ahlund, a 20+ year veteran of the video gaming industry, best known for top-grossing mobile games including Design This Home and Design This Castle, which each had more than 25 million players. Hometopia has been in development for over three years and will launch later this year for free on the Epic Games Store for PC, with Mac and other platforms to follow. ### About Everyrealm  Everyrealm is a metaverse technology company that brings life to the metaverse, by developing and investing in technology that connects people to the metaverse. Google’s Next-Gen Video Chat Tech Is Ready For The Real World – WIRED https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/googles-next-gen-video-chat-tech-is-ready-for-the-real-world-wired/ Good news for anyone who’s sick of Zoom calls but also hates talking to people in real life: Google’s Project Starline is becoming more widely available. Google introduced Starline in 2021 with the goal of making video calls less weird and awkward. It’s essentially a very complicated video conferencing booth that uses cameras, depth sensors, and three-dimensional imagery to approximate face-to-face conversations between two remote participants. A suite of cameras even track both participants’ eye movements and adjust the view on the other side to enable the two people to make eye contact. Our reporter tried it and found that it does a good job creating the sense that the other person is sitting across from you, making the resulting interactions feel very realistic. Others who have tried it say the same. Video: Google Google has been testing the setup internally and is now preparing to set up Starline booths in offices outside the company. Chances are you won’t be able to use Starline quite yet, unless you happen to work with one of the companies Google is partnering with in the US. (Salesforce, T-Mobile, and WeWork, to name a few.) It’s also not clear what Google plans to do with the tech. The company has positioned it as a way for long-distance relatives or coworkers to connect. Having a more lifelike interaction could help remote workers have less stilted conversations. Yes, you’re stuck in that Starline booth, but at least you don’t have to jump around with a headset on. Here’s some more of this week’s news from the Gear desk. iPhone Coasters At its iPhone announcement event in September, Apple took several opportunities to scare the living daylights out of anyone who dares venture outside their home. Apple’s true goal was to highlight the emergency response features in its new iPhones and Apple Watches. One of those was crash detection, which can automatically call emergency services when the phone senses you’ve been in an auto collision. Apple says its hardware can detect the kinds of sudden stops and inversions that might occur in a wreck. Oh, but you know where else those movements might happen? On a roller coaster. At theme parks around the US, iPhone users have reported going on twisty-turny roller coasters then discovering later that their phone has called the cops. In some cases, emergency responders have shown up on the scene for these false alarms. Critics have expressed concern that this could potentially tie up emergency phone lines and personnel. Apple has said the issue is not widespread and that the tech will improve over time. Wish Upon a Polestar The Swedish car company Polestar has announced a new electric vehicle. The Polestar 3 is an all-wheel drive SUV. The company says the 400-V battery gets up to 300 miles on a charge. Inside is a dashboard powered by an Nvidia computer that projects driving information onto the windshield like a head-up display. It starts at $83,900, which is nearly twice as much as the debut price of the previous model, the Polestar 2. There isn’t an official release date for the Polestar 3, but the company says it plans to start selling the vehicles toward the end of 2023. The Zuck Zone Mark Zuckerberg has bet big on the metaverse. His company, Meta, has already pumped billions of dollars into the virtual realm, convinced that one day it will inevitably become mainstream. Thing is, that bet will take a long time to pay off. Meanwhile, Meta just announced a new $1,500 VR headset. The tech is cool, but there’s still no sign whatsoever that society at large is eager to strap on a face computer and hop into the virtual realm. (Never mind that the headset also uses inward-facing cameras to track the wearer’s eye movements and facial expressions, which raised privacy concerns—especially because it’s Meta on the other end.) This week on our Gadget Lab podcast, WIRED editor-at-large Steven Levy, author of the book Facebook: The Inside Story, joins the show to discuss Meta’s VR ambitions and when—if ever—VR might finally take off.

Bitcoin Price Prediction – Is BTC About To Surge 20%? – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bitcoin-price-prediction-is-btc-about-to-surge-20-cryptonews/ Bitcoin price prediction remains neutral to slightly bullish, as technical indicators indicate investor indecision. The BTC/USD pair is trading in a narrow range of $19,210 to $19,000. The cryptocurrency market is devoid of volatility, and investors appear to be waiting for a solid fundamental reason to trigger breakouts.  BTC Sideways Range – Source: Tradingview Let’s start with the news highlights, and then I’ll go over the technical outlook to determine price prediction. War-Driven Crypto Activity in Russia and Ukraine As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine worsens, so does the volume and intensity of cryptocurrency activity.  New York-based blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis released a report on the rapidly expanding use of crypto, the vast majority of which is illegal in origin, in Eastern Europe as a preview of its forthcoming 2022 Geography of Cryptocurrency Report. Residents of both countries began engaging in significantly more activity shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. Economic conditions deteriorated during the height of the conflict, resulting in suffocating price increases. Chainalysis found that people in Russia suffering from the economic sanctions imposed by many countries as a form of criticism for the invasion were more likely to hold stablecoins than any other type of digital asset. According to the research organization, Russia’s volume of stablecoin transactions rose from 42% in January to 67% in March. Overall, crypto activity in the country has increased since then.  Elliptic, a blockchain analytics business, found that the country received $63 million in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency donations in the two weeks following the invasion. According to a story published by the Financial Times in 2022, cryptographic assistance to Ukraine has already surpassed the $100 million mark.  To cut a long story short, there has recently been increased adoption of Bitcoin and altcoins, which is likely to have a positive impact on Bitcoin price. Stronger US Dollar Keeps BTC Lower One of the reasons behind a slowdown in Bitcoin’s upward movement could be associated with a stronger US dollar. A day before, the University of Michigan reported consumer sentiment figures that showed a significant improvement. Consumer sentiment increased in October 2022 to 59.8, the highest level in six months, from 58.6 the previous month and higher than market predictions of 59. Alongside, after an upwardly revised 0.4% increase in August, the Commerce Department reported Friday that sales were flat in September. There was a correction made to the August sales figure, which revised the growth to 0.7%.  Despite the fact that the data is flat, the market views it positively, and it will encourage the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by 0.75 percentage points at its November policy meeting. Bitcoin Price Prediction – Is BTC About to Surge 20%? The current Bitcoin price is $19,168, and the 24-hour trading volume is $28 billion. Bitcoin has fallen over 2% in the last 24 hours. CoinMarketCap now ranks first, with a live market cap of $367 billion.  Bitcoin has found immediate support near $19,135 and has also crossed below the 50-day moving average, indicating a bearish trend. A break below $19,135 may cause BTC to fall to prior triple bottom support near $18,709, while another breach may cause BTC to fall to $18,246. On the upside, resistance is still located near $19,958. If the price goes below $19,135, investors are likely to consider selling. A bullish breakout of $19,960 and $20,458 on the other hand, has the potential to drive a price uptrend of up to 20%. New Crypto Presales One way to combat the bearish cryptocurrency market and extreme volatility is to invest in a new token presale.  We’ve been keeping an eye on the IMPT token presale, a new cryptocurrency that recently raised over $4.6 million in a seed round. U.S. Grows Frustrated Over Europes Delayed Economic Aid To Ukraine The Washington Post
U.S. Grows Frustrated Over Europe’s Delayed Economic Aid To Ukraine – The Washington Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-grows-frustrated-over-europes-delayed-economic-aid-to-ukraine-the-washington-post/ Tensions are rising between the United States and its Western allies over Ukraine’s deteriorating economy, as American officials increasingly prod the European Union to ramp up financial assistance to the war-torn country. On several occasions this week during meetings of global financial leaders in Washington, Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen called on her international counterparts to accelerate both the speed and amount of money going to Ukraine. Yellen was joined in that push by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, who virtually addressed a World Bank meeting of top financial officials on Wednesday. Yellen also raised the issue at a private meeting this week at the International Monetary Fund with European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis and European Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private meetings. She raised the issue again at a subsequent meeting of all E.U. finance ministers, the person said. New projections from the World Bank last week suggest that Ukraine’s economy will contract by 35 percent this year, and the country’s financial officials say inflation could hit 40 percent early next year — close to economists’ definition of “hyperinflation.” Even as the situation on the battlefield has turned in Ukraine’s favor, the nation’s exports have plummeted, tax revenue has crumbled, millions of people have fled and Russian attacks have pulverized critical infrastructure, including the electrical grid. International assistance has not proved enough to make up the gap. Zelensky on Wednesday said Ukraine needs as much as $38 billion in emergency economic help from the West for next year’s budget alone. That figure excludes the additional $350 billion the World Bank has estimated will be necessary for Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction once the war ends. The United States has disbursed $8.5 billion in economic aid and will disburse another $4.5 billion by the end of the year, while U.S. officials say the European Union has pledged 11 billion euros but only disbursed about 3 billion in loans. “We are calling on our partners and allies to join us by swiftly disbursing their existing commitments to Ukraine and by stepping up in doing more — both to help Ukraine continue its essential government services and to help Ukraine begin to build and recover,” Yellen said Tuesday. On Wednesday, Yellen again stressed the need for rapid disbursement of direct cash payments — rather than loans that have to be repaid — to assist the country’s economy. Yellen’s comments were a thinly veiled reference to the E.U., which has almost entirely given its aid in loans. “Donors need to keep stepping up,” Yellen said. “The scale, predictability and grant component of disbursements must improve.” Both Ukrainian and U.S. officials are careful not to antagonize their European allies with harsh public condemnations but have still conveyed their sense that the commission is moving too slowly. “I know they’re very frustrated,” one former senior Treasury official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to reflect private conversations with Treasury leadership. “The U.S. officials want to see Europe deliver far more quickly … They want Europe to deliver far more expeditiously. They need to deliver.” In a statement, European Commission spokeswoman Nuyts Veerle strongly rejected the idea that the E.U. had been slow or inadequate in its disbursement of aid. The overall commitment of “Team Europe” — including not just the E.U., but also its member states and financial institutions such as the European Investment Bank — amounts to roughly 19 billion euros, Veerle said. The European Commission is also pledging to have disbursed 10.2 billion euros in emergency economic support for Ukraine by the end of the year, excluding military aid, Veerle said. While the vast majority of the assistance is in the form of loans rather than grants, those loans are made on highly favorable terms to the borrowers. Part of the challenge is that such decisions by E.U. capitals have to be supported unanimously, creating the opportunity for roadblocks, whereas the United States can approve aid without having to consult other nations. “The E.U. has been welcoming millions of refugees from Ukraine and has been taking care of them on E.U. territory. All this needs to be taken into account when discussing the overall extent of the support and assistance,” a European official added, speaking on the condition of anonymity to frankly reflect the E.U.’s position. “Plus, the E.U. made long-term commitments for the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine. For us, this is not a race or a beauty contest. Assistance to Ukraine is in our vital interest, and we are determined to do as much as we can to help to defeat the aggressor and rebuild their country.” The European Union is contending with its own set of challenges amid a darkening global economic outlook. Europe faces a severe economic slowdown and likely recession this winter as Russia chokes off the continent’s sources of energy in retaliation for sanctions imposed over the war. Inflation in Europe is continuing unabated, and energy prices have soared higher there than in the United States. But the economic situation in Ukraine is worse, and warnings have accelerated in recent weeks despite the nation’s victories on the battlefield over Russia. Ukraine’s tax revenue is now almost entirely devoted to military operations, forcing the country’s government to print new money — driving up inflation and forcing down the value of its currency. Inflation is already above 30 percent, and the country’s currency, the hryvnia, has fallen in value by roughly 70 percent, according to Maryan Zablotsky, a member of Ukraine’s parliament who sits on its finance committee. Zelensky, speaking remotely to a World Bank meeting on Wednesday, said inflation-adjusted incomes among Ukrainians had fallen by more than one-third. “We understand a lot of Western countries have their own issues and problems, but the current aid is barely enough to feed people,” Zablotsky said in an interview. Kenneth Rogoff, a Harvard economist and former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund, said he is concerned that Ukraine’s inflation could continue to skyrocket within six months to a year if additional help does not materialize. With its large budget deficit, Ukraine has been forced to print money to cover its spending obligations — lowering the value of the currency and pushing up the costs of imports and other goods. “They’re in a desperate, desperate situation you cannot even imagine … In a sense, while they’re winning the war, their economy is losing,” Rogoff said. “The Europeans should be paying way more; I don’t care if they’re in a recession. Ukraine is in a war where it is defending the border of Europe.” Yellen’s comments this week reflect how U.S. officials’ long-building frustration over European economic aid to Ukraine is now coming into view, according to Jacob Kirkegaard, a senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and at the Peterson Institute. The United States has committed to providing $1.5 billion per month to cover Ukraine’s government next year. The European Commission in recent weeks made a similar pledge but faces skepticism from international experts over its ability to make good on that pledge, given its inability to meet its goals thus far. “They have not been willing to step up to the plate to the extent that clearly the U.S. wants,” Kirkegaard said on Wednesday. “When you read Secretary Yellen’s comments today, it’s clearly palpable.”

Technology Can Help Remove Negative Stigma Around Farming: Govt – ANTARA English https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/technology-can-help-remove-negative-stigma-around-farming-govt-antara-english/ Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The negative stigma around agriculture can be eliminated through the implementation of agricultural technology, according to Bali Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati. Residents, particularly the younger generation, often view agricultural work as dirty and backward, as no educational expertise is needed for the job, the deputy governor noted. “Change those negative stigmas through the implementation of agricultural technology, hence, farming will be seen as a cool job among the younger generation,” Sukawati said while speaking to students of the Agricultural Technology Faculty of Udayana University here on Saturday. He urged higher educational institutions in Bali running study programs on food and agriculture to help prepare quality human resources with expertise in innovation and technology. The participation of all parties, including the government, is essential to bolster food security, especially in Bali province, the deputy governor underlined. “The Bali provincial authority is mindful of food security and resilience in the province. Some measures that the provincial authority has taken are to balance the supply and demand,” he said. The provincial authority has also exerted control on agricultural land function shift, explored alternative regional food sources, promoted local agriculture products at Bali hotels and restaurants, and developed organic farming, he added. Those measures are essential to bolster food security and resilience given the limited agricultural land in the province. “The high (agricultural land) functional shift reaching more than one thousand hectares annually can potentially cause various issues,” he said. The potential issues that could arise from the functional shift include scarcity of agricultural land, population increase leading to food scarcity, and declining interest among the younger generation in the agricultural sector, he added.  Related news: KTNA asked to digitize agriculture to attract millennials Related news: Minister invites millennials to become farmers, agripreneurs

AP / John Redman / Pool / Samir Hussein / Contributor / Getty Images Princess Diana was known for being a hands-on parent. There are countless photos of her being playful and loving with Prince William and Prince Harry. Prince William is loving with his kids, but he’s more reserved in public photos than his mother.  Princess Diana changed the way parenting looked in the royal family. Julian Parker/UK Press/Getty Images Historically, the royal family has been formal with children in public, avoiding public displays of affection. Queen Elizabeth, in particular, was physically distant from her children, shaking King Charles’ hand when she returned from a royal tour when he was a young child, according to Romper. But Diana was clearly a different kind of parent from the moment she became a mother. Although she had many formal royal responsibilities as the Princess of Wales, Diana made clear during her life that her children were her focus. Tim Graham / Contributor / Getty Images “Most importantly, [my role is] being a mother and a wife,” Diana said in November 1985. “That’s what I try to achieve; whether I do is another thing, but I do try.” “I live for my sons,” she went on to say. “I would be lost without them.” That mentality led Diana to hug her sons, hold their hands, and play with them, no matter if they were in public or private. Prince William is also a hands-on parent, though he’s slightly more formal than his mother. Prince George and his father, Prince William, in May 2015. AP/Kirsty Wigglesworth Prince William has been transparent that his mother’s legacy has helped to shape the person he is. But he is also the heir to the British throne, meaning even his moments as a parent are closely monitored by the press. William seems to have struck a balance between his mother’s and the monarchy’s historical approach to parenting, based on photos of him with his children. In 1993, she took them to Thorpe Park and went on a log flume with them, all three grinning as they reached the bottom. Konami Launches Metaverse Push With Web3 Focused Hiring Spree – Blockchain Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/konami-launches-metaverse-push-with-web3-focused-hiring-spree-blockchain-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Konami, one of the most influential Japanese game development and publishing companies, has announced it will be introducing Web3 and metaverse technologies into its games. The company opened 13 different job openings for three departments that will be responsible for developing the new projects to spearhead Konami’s latest business strategy. Konami to Enter Metaverse and Web3 Arena Konami, one of the biggest AAA game developers and publishers in Japan, is showing interest in jumping on the metaverse and Web3 entertainment bandwagon. The company recently published a series of job openings for the production of experiences that include this type of technology in its next games. The company is recruiting via 13 different job openings in the areas of infrastructure development, production and operations, and support. These new openings will help to “provide new experiences such as Web3 and Metaverse,” according to Konami’s news release. While there have been no statements about the IPs (intellectual properties) that will be using these new technologies, the company did explain its general plans for the future, which also include non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Konami stated: We have been conducting research and development to incorporate the latest technology into games and contents, and plan to launch a service where players can trade their in-game NFTs (digital items) through a unique distribution platform using blockchain. Konami’s Background This isn’t the first time around for Konami using blockchain-based elements as part of its operations. In fact, the company has already released an NFT collection to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Castlevania, one of its most beloved franchises. The NFT collection, which features videos and images of some of the first games of the franchise, was successful and managed to raise over $160K in January. As a result, the company signaled in favor of further adopting this technology, noting it would be using the same for “content preservation” purposes. Other Japanese players have the edge when it comes to the metaverse and Web3 developments. Bandai Namco is already working on establishing its own multi-IP metaverse, and in February stated it would be investing $130 million toward this goal. Square Enix has also included blockchain and play-to-earn as part of its business strategy, even announcing the launch of a Final Fantasy-themed NFT collection for next year. Sega also recently announced it will produce its own blockchain-based, IP-licensed game, using Japanese blockchain provider Oasys to support its decentralized components. Anthony Hopkins NFT Sells-Out In 7 Minutes – Here’s Everything You Need To Know – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/anthony-hopkins-nft-sells-out-in-7-minutes-heres-everything-you-need-to-know-cryptonews/ Source: OpenSea Anthony Hopkins, a Welsh actor, director, and producer, has seen his first NFT collection sold out in less than 10 minutes despite the overall soar market conditions and dwindling user interest in digital collectibles.  Called “The Eternal Collection,” the project was launched in collaboration with NFT design agency Orange Comet, and featured 1000 original cinematic art pieces inspired by different performances of the actor over his film acreer.  The body of work “conceptualizes an interpretation of the vast character archetypes Sir Anthony Hopkins has portrayed over his illustrious film career, drawing its potent energy from his stimulating body of art,” according to the collection’s description on OpenSea. The archetypes names include “The Jester”, “The Lover”, “The Ruler”, “The Rebel”, “The Giver”, and “The Eternal,” each of which represents the various archetypal characters the actor has played throughout his prosperous career.  The mint price for each NFT was 0.25 ETH (around $325), though the floor price of the collection currently stands at 0.69 ETH ($885). Notably, NFT holders have a chance to win personalized NFTs from Hopkins, an autographed art book, and a Zoom call with him.  “Thanks to everyone for helping make this a huge success! Oscar Winner Anthony Hopkins’ First NFT Collection Sold Out in Minutes on OpenSea,” said Dave Broome, CEO of Orange Comet. Hopkins has showed interest in Web3 and NFTs for some time now, most recently adding an ENS domain to his Twitter profile. He also starred in the sci-fi film Zero Contact, which was released via the NFT platform Vuele. NFT Market Down by Every Metric What makes the success of “The Eternal Collection” even more impressive is that the project had a splashy debut despite the overall bad market conditions, especially for NFTs. As reported, NFT trading volume has taken a major dive, plunging by nearly 100% from its all-time high in January this year. The trading volume for NFTs stood at $17 billion at begining of the year. However, that figure plunged to just $466 million in September, representing a drop of 97%. The drop is in line with the broader market downturn and the global market rout, caused by the war in Europe, rising inflation, and poor central bank policies.  “The fading NFT mania is part of a wider, $2 trillion wipeout in the crypto sector as rapidly tightening monetary policy starves speculative assets of investment flows,” Bloomberg reported in late September.

Without A Nasal Vaccine The U.S. Edge In Fighting Covid Is On The Line POLITICO
Without A Nasal Vaccine The U.S. Edge In Fighting Covid Is On The Line POLITICO
Without A Nasal Vaccine, The U.S. Edge In Fighting Covid Is On The Line – POLITICO https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/without-a-nasal-vaccine-the-u-s-edge-in-fighting-covid-is-on-the-line-politico/ India, Russia and Iran have authorized nasal vaccines. And while none of those have yet been proven to stop Covid transmission, officials say the U.S. could find itself at a global disadvantage, particularly if a deadlier variant emerges. “Intranasal vaccines — vaccines that are variant-resistant — those are critical tools to have in the toolbox for protecting Americans, not just for Covid but also for future pandemics and also for future biosecurity threats,” Ashish Jha, the administration’s Covid-19 response coordinator, told POLITICO. Researchers working on nasal vaccines are hopeful that they could stop virus transmission by generating immunity against it in the nose and other parts of the upper respiratory system where the coronavirus enters the body. If that bears out in clinical trials, nasal vaccines would be superior to existing mRNA vaccines, which prevent severe disease but don’t stop transmission. Officials at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases are attuned to the danger of failing to develop such a nasal vaccine since it would protect people in case of a more contagious and deadlier coronavirus variant, said Karin Bok, the acting deputy director for pandemic preparedness and emergency response at the agency’s Vaccine Research Center. The center has mapped the nasal and oral Covid vaccines in development in the U.S. and abroad. It is also testing nasal versions of the Moderna vaccine and two other types of injectable Covid-19 vaccines in monkeys, Bok said. But that probably won’t lead to a nasal Covid vaccine being approved in the U.S. anytime soon because funding for clinical trials and production is lacking. Bok and Jha say the cost is high. If China were to develop a nasal vaccine capable of stopping Covid transmission, that could turn the tables on the current pandemic trajectory, which has the U.S. emerging and much of China stuck in lockdown. Even though India, Iran, China and Russia haven’t proved their non-injectable vaccines stop transmission, the potential is there, experts said. “Countries where transmission is reduced are going to be healthier, are going to have stronger economies. And the U.S. needs to catch up,” said Marty Moore, the founder and chief scientific officer of Meissa Vaccines, a small biotech company that’s trying to develop a nasal vaccine in the U.S. Stopping transmission Many scientists believe the nose could hold the secret to stopping coronavirus transmission, but there’s no consensus yet on whether nasal vaccines could be more effective than injectable ones, as evidence from clinical trials is necessary to prove it. Disagreement in Congress about how to pay for additional aid or whether it’s needed, as well as disinterest from major drugmakers in spending their own money on something that may not be very profitable, could mean a foreign rival gets an advantage. Writing in Science Immunology in July, Eric Topol, a professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research, and Akiko Iwasaki, an immunobiology professor at Yale, endorsed the potential of a nasal vaccine to stop coronavirus transmission. “Breaking the chain of transmission at the individual and population level will put us in a far better position to achieve containment of the virus,” they wrote, adding that “the prospect of achieving this with nasal vaccines is high.” They called for U.S. government support in developing Operation Warp Speed 2.0, modeled on the initiative that created the first Covid-19 vaccines in record time. The Biden administration is working on that, but funding woes and pandemic fatigue have hampered its efforts. Beyond effectiveness, a nasal vaccine could appeal to people who are squeamish about needles and to parents of young children who have mostly declined to get their kids inoculated. As of early October, only 9 percent of children ages 6 months to 5 years have gotten the shots, which were authorized by the FDA in June. U.S. technology in India Outside of the government-funded research cited by Bok, two Washington University School of Medicine professors, David T. Curiel, a radiation oncologist, and Michael S. Diamond, a molecular microbiologist, invented the nasal vaccine authorized in India. Curiel and Diamond told POLITICO they created it with the needs of the developing world in mind, given the lack of ultracold freezers needed to store mRNA vaccines. The two scientists licensed their vaccine to the Indian drugmaker Bharat Biotech, which tested it in clinical trials partially financed by the Indian government. They have also tried to solicit interest from large U.S. pharmaceutical companies about it “and there was not as much excitement as we would have thought,” Diamond said. Their vaccine, named iNCOVACC in India, is based on an adenovirus that delivers the coronavirus spike protein. Bharat Biotech tested it both as a primary vaccination series and as a booster for people who were vaccinated with injectable Covid shots available in India. The company said the clinical trials had “successful results” and that side effects were comparable to those from other Covid-19 vaccines, but it has not yet published the data in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The Indian drug regulator approved the two-dose vaccine, which comes in the form of nasal drops, for adults who have not had a previous Covid-19 shot, Bharat Biotech said. The company has the right to sell it in India and most of the rest of Asia and Africa. Elsewhere, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, a global partnership financing vaccine development for epidemic threats, is developing a plan for nasal vaccine research projects. “For example, we are looking into whether nasal vaccines could be an option for our all-in-one coronavirus vaccine program funding the development of vaccines against both Covid-19 variants and other coronaviruses,” said Melanie Saville, CEPI’s executive director of vaccine research and development. CEPI awarded nearly $5 million in seed funding to the Dutch company Intravacc for a nasal vaccine candidate that could work against multiple coronaviruses. There are now 95 nasal vaccines under development around the world, according to health data company Airfinity. Six have reached the final Phase 3 in clinical trials. Tempering expectations But some scientists doubt that a nasal vaccine will be a game-changer. William Haseltine, a former professor at Harvard Medical School with expertise in HIV/AIDS and genomics, believes that enthusiasm should be tempered about the potential of nasal vaccines to prevent infection, given that natural nasal exposure to the virus doesn’t prevent people from getting reinfected. “Why in the world do you think that if you [spray] a vaccine up the nose … you can do any better?” he asked POLITICO. Attempts to develop a nasal version of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, the injectable version of which was widely used globally at the beginning of the vaccination campaign, experienced a setback after only a minority of participants in an early stage clinical trial showed some immune response in respiratory mucous membranes. Haseltine argued that scientists still don’t have a good understanding of nasal immunity and that government funding would be better directed to antiviral drugs that keep Covid-19 in check. And Bok doesn’t think any of the existing non-injectable vaccines stop Covid-19 transmission. “I would be very surprised if India or China licensed it with data proving that an intranasal vaccine is better than the ones we have,” she said. Funding problems Curiel and Diamond have licensed their vaccine for potential use in the U.S. to Pennsylvania-based biotech Ocugen. The company is looking for both regulatory and financial support from the U.S. government to develop the vaccine as a booster, CEO Shankar Musunuri told POLITICO. But without another Operation Warp Speed, there will be substantial delays in large-scale manufacturing, regulatory approval and distribution of a nasal vaccine, argued Topol and Iwasaki. Iwasaki, who is working to develop a booster Covid-19 nasal vaccine, said she will probably need tens of millions of dollars to test it in clinical trials. “Just trying to do this as a small academic lab is very different from a Warp Speed,” she told POLITICO. That’s unlikely to happen. Congress last month passed a short-term measure to continue funding the government until Dec. 16 without any additional money for Covid-19. The White House had asked for $8 billion to fund the next generation of vaccines and therapeutics, including nasal vaccines. “There is no plan B: If Congress does not fund this, it will not happen,” Jha said. “America will fall further behind China and other countries.”

Google Pixel Fold Could Sport Samsung Display Panels Suggests Leak The Indian Express
Google Pixel Fold Could Sport Samsung Display Panels, Suggests Leak – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/google-pixel-fold-could-sport-samsung-display-panels-suggests-leak-the-indian-express/ The Google Pixel Fold is a highly anticipated device because it’ll present to the world Google’s take on Android for foldable devices, among other things. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot we know about it right now – but as the rumored Q1 2023 launch date draws closer, we are seeing tidbits of information leak out. The latest throws some light on the kind of display the device will be sporting. According to developer Kuba Wojciechowscki in an exclusive by 91mobiles, the Pixel Fold will feature internal and external displays and both will be manufactured by Samsung. The larger panel on the inside will have a resolution of 1840×2208, which if you run some numbers on will give you an aspect ratio very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold4. The brightness will touch 1200 nits peak, with the typical maximum brightness standing at 800 nits. Wojciechowscki wasn’t too sure about the refresh rate but he did state that it could go up to 120Hz, which is pretty much expected in this age of ultra-smooth, high-refresh-rate displays. Meanwhile, the dimensions could be 123mm x 148mm. Moving on to the photography aspects, it was leaked earlier that the Pixel Fold might come with triple cameras, with the primary sensor being a Sony IMX787 sensor. This will be alongside an IMX386 ultra-wide lens and an S5K3J1 telephoto lens. The inner display will probably house an IMX355 sensor. Of course, it’s advisable to take all this with a pinch of salt since Google is yet to even confirm the existence of any foldable device of its own. It was earlier thought that the Pixel Fold will be hitting the shelves this year but with the year coming to a close now, that seems impossible. This is corroborated by a more recent report suggesting the foldable phone will arrive by March 2023.

How 5 Families Bought Hawaii Vacation Homes Together To Live The Dream – Business Insider https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-5-families-bought-hawaii-vacation-homes-together-to-live-the-dream-business-insider/ Ryan Seare, 47, was the first of his neighborhood friends to invest in a Hawaii vacation home. He convinced four other families to join him at a property in Kauai where shares start at $445,000. The families go for three weeks a year and barbecue on the beach, run on trails, and hike together. Loading Something is loading. Thanks for signing up! Access your favorite topics in a personalized feed while you’re on the go. Ryan Seare, Josh Phillips, and Cameron Smith had been running trails together in their Salt Lake City, Utah, suburb for eight years before they decided to take their friendship to the next level.  Their three families, plus two others, had hunkered down together during the trying early months of the pandemic, proving to each other that their connection and camaraderie could make the jump to a new state.  So in October 2020 when Seare decided to take the plunge and buy a vacation property in Kauai, one of Hawaii’s most verdant and popular islands, the rest of the families followed his lead. It wasn’t the meticulously planned adventure one might assume.  “It didn’t start with ‘Hey guys, let’s all look for a place where we can travel with our families!'” the 37-year-old Smith, who is the president and a cofounder of the pancake-mix company Kodiak Cakes, said. “It just happened randomly. Ryan talked about his experiences, and then it got Josh interested, and then it got me interested.” For his precedent-setting investment, Seare chose Timbers Kauai, an intimate community of 47 homes tucked away on Kauai’s southeast shore near a lighthouse, a marina, and a Costco. Seare said the 400-acre resort’s scenic landscape, and what it offers to his family in the forms of on-site activities and bonding experiences, won him and his wife over.  The property stretches from the inland, by the island’s main airport, to a bluff overlooking the sea. A 16.5-acre organic farm and orchard is open to residents to stroll through and pluck fresh produce from, and the resort also has a two-tiered infinity pool, 17 miles of walking and biking paths, and an 18-hole golf course.  The Phillips family uses the property’s 17 miles of walking, hiking, and biking trails. Josh Phillips Seare, Smith, and Phillips each purchased a 1/12th ownership of a residence at Timbers Kauai that grants them three weeks of use per year plus unlimited last-minute trip bookings whenever the resort has openings in its schedule. The 1/12th share costs a flat fee of $445,000. Owners also pay an annual fee of $22,295 and additional cleaning fees.  Fractional ownership, like what Timbers offers, is a growing trend in the vacation-home industry that lowers the cost barrier to ownership by allowing buyers to purchase a share of a home rather than the full property. Unlike time-shares, buyers can keep the gain in value when they sell their shares.  Timbers’ model parallels the approach of popular fractional-ownership startups like Pacaso and Ember, which have bought homes in desirable locations — like Napa and Lake Tahoe — and turned them into vacation homes with multiple owners. They picked Kauai because it’s still relatively unspoiled What appealed most to the five Utah families was that Kauai had resisted some of the commercialization and overwhelming tourism that Oahu and Maui have experienced. “If you’re looking for retail therapy, and you’re looking for amazing experiences dining out,” Seare, a 47-year-old interior-design showroom owner said. “Kauai is probably not the place for you.” The trio started off going to Kauai for at least a few of the same three weeks allotted to them annually.  Between the Seare, Phillips, and Smith families, there are 13 kids ranging in age from 2 to 17. A fourth dad who works in advertising has five kids, and a fifth in real estate has three. Timbers sits on a craggy bluff overlooking the ocean. Timbers Kauai Still, there’s something for everyone to do on the property — and perhaps best for the parents of the older kids, the property’s staff act as friendly, albeit watchful, eyes.  “We were able to hang out with each others’ families at the beach, and then I was able to run with those guys in the morning,” Smith said. “It actually made it more fun.” When the families are together in Hawaii, they head down to the beach for days in the surf as well as barbecues with new friends they’ve made in Kauai. They also get into what Phillips, a 47-year-old general contractor, called “typical Hawaii stuff” like hiking, exploring, and venturing across the island to lounge on new beaches.  “What brings people together is time, right?” Smith said. “Sometimes when you’re on vacation, you don’t want to see people you know, because that’s part of vacationing. But vacationing with friends can also be pretty fun.”  %

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 15 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 15 – VietNamNet https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/vietnam-business-news-october-15-vietnamnet/ Vietnam’s export value to Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) member countries increased by 38.7% to 41 billion USD over the first eight months of 2022, the Government’s report shows. The Southeast Asian nation spent 35 billion USD on imports from CPTPP nations, the VGP cited the report released by the Government on the implementation of the CPTPP, during the January-August period. With the above figures, Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus of 6 billion USD. Remarkably, Vietnam’s exports to Canada and Mexico grew by 32% and 9.2% to 4.5 billion USD and 3.2 billion USD, respectively. CPTPP, a new-generation trade pact, was signed by 11 countries, namely Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam in Santiago, Chile on March 8, 2018. Eight months later, Vietnam ratified the trade deal that took effect on January 14, 2019. Exports of forestry waste products likely to rake in billions of USD Wood pellets, made from compressed sawdust and forestry wastes, have become a key currency earner of the wood industry, having the great potential to rank in the group of export staples with turnover of over 1 billion USD. Vietnam’s wood pellet export value was just about 145 million USD in 2017 and surged to 413 million USD in 2021.  Close to 2.4 million tonnes of the product were shipped overseas in the first half of 2022 for approximately 354 million USD. If the growth is maintained at the current rate, the export turnover may hit around 700 million USD for the entire year. In particular, the product’s export price increased sharply between January and June to an average of nearly 150 USD per tonne, more than 27% higher than the average price in 2021. The use of by-products to make the pellets helps wood factories raise incomes, offsetting the high price of imported raw materials. Currently, Vietnam houses about 300 pellet production facilities, which have solely exported to Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK). VinFast, Petrolimex open e-vehicle charging stations VinFast and Petrolimex opened electric vehicle charging service at 10 petrol stations on October 14, as part of a plan to expand the network to 500 stations of Petrolimex across the country. 60kW, 150kW and 300kW fast charging cylinders meeting CCS2 standards are available at Petrolimex petrol stations, meeting the diverse needs of customers. VinFast charging stations all meet European standards ISO-15118 and IEC 61851, ensuring maximum safety in terms of power supply, fire and explosion and electrical leakage prevention, and waterproofing. The move aims to cement a cooperation agreement signed by VinFast and Petrolimex  in June 2022 to develop over 500 VinFast electric vehicle charging stations at Petrolimex’s petrol stations across the country from 2022-2023.   FTA helps boost Vietnam-EAEU trade ties The free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasia Economic Union (EAEU) has contributed to trade between the Southeast Asian nation and EAEU member countries, heard a meeting in Moscow on October 13. The third meeting of the joint commission on the implementation of the FTA was co-chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Minister for Trade of the EAEU Andrey Slepnev. It aimed to review the five-year implementation of the trade deal. According to the EAEU, trade between the two sides increased from 5.9 billion USD in 2017 to 7.8 billion USD last year.   Dien, however, pointed out that certain provisions and commitments of the agreement are no longer suitable with the current context, and suggested the two sides upgrade it to optimise new potential and opportunities. He asked the EAEU to take note of Vietnam’s concerns regarding the limitations of safeguard measures and the low rice quota. The EAEU side mentioned issues regarding green economy in which Vietnam said it wants to cooperate and exchange experience with the EAEU. Comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, the EAEU signed the FTA with Vietnam in May 2015, its first with an external partner. Many SOEs recover from pandemic’s impacts: Ministry After severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, enterprises invested with state capital has begun to bounce back since 2021, according to the Ministry of Finance. In a recent report on the investment, management, and use of state capital at enterprises in 2021 sent to the National Assembly, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc said there were 826 businesses invested with state capital as of December 31 last year, including 673 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and 153 firms with capital partly contributed by the state. Their total assets are worth over 3.7 quadrillion VND (153.2 billion USD), up 2% from 2020. Their total revenue surpassed 2.1 quadrillion VND, up 8% year on year. Meanwhile, consolidated reports by groups, corporations, and parent – subsidiary companies pointed out that these enterprises’ revenue topped 1.5 quadrillion VND last year, up 9%. The firms posting high revenue are mainly large-scale ones. The best performers are Vietnam Electricity – EVN (over 440 trillion VND), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group – Petrovietnam (over 380 trillion VND), Military Industry and Telecoms Group – Viettel (nearly 150 trillion VND), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group – Vinacomin (over 114 trillion VND), and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group – VNPT (over 54.67 trillion VND), statistics showed. The report noted that in 2021, some parent companies recorded revenue increases of more than 30% compared to the previous year, including Vietnam National Chemical Group (156%), Company of Economic Cooperation (87%), Technological Application and Production One Member Limited Liability Company (77%), Vietnam Expressway Corporation (66%), and Petrovietnam (41%). Consolidated reports by groups, corporations, and parent – subsidiary companies also showed that their pre-tax profits approximated 157 trillion VND, up 33% from 2020. Most of the ones with pre-tax profits of over 5 trillion VND were large companies, including Petrovietnam (nearly 52 trillion VND), Viettel (nearly 37 trillion VND), and EVN (nearly 18 trillion VND). However, some businesses witnessed sharp declines in pre-tax profits such as Vietnam Paper Corporation (down 90%), Hanoi Transport Corporation (90%), and Housing and Urban Development Corporation (52%). Phoc said some SOEs have yet to clearly exercise their roles in leading and promoting other economic sectors to grow or boost the connectivity of value added chains. Besides, loss-making and poor-performing projects have yet to be handled thoroughly, thus affecting the restructuring of SOEs, the report added. Carbon market requires proper development: Experts   Officials have urged the Government to hasten the development of the carbon market to meet international rules and practices. Vietnam needs a proper carbon market to reach net-zero emissions as committed to the global community, Nguyen The Chinh, former Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, said on October 11. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCED), the carbon market is “a trading system through which countries may buy or sell units of greenhouse-gas emissions to meet their national limits on emissions, either under the Kyoto Protocol or under other agreements.” Under Decree 06/2022/ND-CP dated January 7, 2022, by the Government, Vietnam has to complete the development of the carbon market and pilot it in 2025. The country needs to fulfill all requirements and put the market into official operation from 2028 onwards. Local businesses also need to study international regulations and practices on the carbon market to be well prepared when the market is launched, according to Do Thi Thu Huong, a representative of the Private Economy Development Board under the Prime Minister’s Administrative Reforms Council. A recent study of 400 companies by the board shows that 80% of the firms have little knowledge of greenhouse gas reduction. Meanwhile, 41% of the surveyed companies are clueless about at least one of the items related to the issue, Huong said. The official urged local companies to improve their knowledge about the reduction of emissions and the commitments of the Government assumed in the Global Conference on Climate Change (COP26). Vietnam is one of the biggest emitters in ASEAN, and the Government has pledged to change the situation, however, challenges have remained, she said. The challenges lie in the openness of the Vietnamese economy, which depends much on exports, Huong said. Pham Thi Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Credit Department under the State Bank of Vietnam, said that green bonds could be essential to assist local companies. In 2017-2020, the total balance of green credits increased by an average of 25% per annum. As of June 30, 2022, the entire balance of green credits was VND474 trillion, accounting for 4.1% of the country’s total credit. The figure was up 7.08% on-year, and most credits focused on clean energy (47%) and green agriculture (32%). Challenges remain, as Vietnam does not have clear regulations on green credits, Tung said, adding that certification of green credits for development projects requires technical criteria, which banking professionals have yet to obtain. Ministry not putting 6,800 MW of coal-fired power in draft power plan The Ministry of Industry and Trade has submitted a proposal to the Government on the approval of the draft National Power Development Plan VIII for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, in which it continues to exclude 6,800 MW of coal-fired power. As of late September, Vietnam had 39 operating coal-fired power plant...

Moment Surulere Inner Wheel Club Celebrated New Era Girls – P.M. News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/moment-surulere-inner-wheel-club-celebrated-new-era-girls-p-m-news/ Isa Isawade The Inner Wheel Club of Surulere on Friday in Lagos celebrated students of the New Era Girls Secondary School with lectures and gifts as part of its activities to mark the year 2022 International Day of the Girl Child. The first guest speaker, Dr (Mrs) Bola Balogun, in her lecture defined the girl child as a “biological female offspring from birth to 18 years of age”. She listed the rights of the girl child to include safety; education; health; right to own property; right to vote and be voted for; right to earn a fair wage; right to enter into legal contracts, and equal rights within the family, adding that society should also protect the girl child from any forms of violence, slavery and discrimination. Dr Balogun encouraged the New Era girls to build in themselves a sense of self-worth, know their rights and claim those rights as they grew into womanhood. She told the students: “Understanding your rights now will enable you to grow into strong, confident women who take their destiny into their own hands. The essence of the speeches we give on a day like this is to nurture you and point you in the direction that would help you to understand your self-worth and empower you as tomorrow’s workers, mothers, entrepreneurs, mentors, household heads and political leaders. “When you are sufficiently empowered, you will take ownership of your future and add value to your generation. When the girl child knows her rights and is driven, she will break barriers and stereotypes and contribute equally to solving global issues like climate change, disease prevention and developing digital solutions to solve global challenges.” She called for attitudinal change in the way our society treats the girl child in order to enable her to attain her full potential. A cross-section of the New Era Girls Secondary School at the event in Lagos Balogun also appealed to the club to use its platform to stop sexual harassment in Yaba Market in Lagos where she said male traders were fond of harassing female shoppers. The second guest speaker who is a paediatric nurse from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Mrs Irabor emphasized the importance of hygiene, most especially, regular hand washing. She informed the audience that strict adherence to regular hand washing practice is an antidote to many diseases and also the sine qua non to healthy living. She urged all to wash hands with soap and water after using the toilet, before touching food items in the kitchen, before and after eating and before touching mouth, nose and eyes. Complying with this, she said would guarantee good and enduring health. President of the Surulere Inner Wheel Club, District 911, IWM Risikatu Osomo enjoined the students to build a sense of worth and confidence in themselves, adding that the girl child is beautiful and priceless. She announced to a jubilant audience that the New Era Girls Secondary School has formed the school’s branch of the club. She welcomed the students to the club and assured the school of continued support of the club. The high point of the event was the donation of cleaning items and other gifts to the students and guests at the occasion. The very elated Principal of the school, Mrs Adeniran commended the club for always showing love and concern to the school girls. According to her, “I’m so happy and appreciate the fact that they always remember these girls. They always remember that the girl child needs protection; that the girl child needs attention; that the girl child needs to be educated; that the girl child of today will grow to be a mother tomorrow. They consider it important to impart this knowledge into them that they need to take care of themselves, keep themselves and never to look down on themselves. I’m so happy that they came today and my girls too are happy. They now know their worth. If they had been thinking that they were just girls and were worthless, today they have come to realize that they are worthy and can be great women tomorrow.” She advised other organisations in the country to emulate the Surulere Inner Wheel Club by reaching out to other girls. Other important personalities who graced the occasion include IWM Olufolakemi Ajayi, District Chairperson; IWM Abosede Agbelusi; Mrs Adenike Bankole, President of New Era Girls Secondary School, Lagos Alumni Association (NEGSSLA-A) among others. The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated globally on the 11th of October every year.
