This New Green Crypto Is Predicted To 50x By 2023 – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/this-new-green-crypto-is-predicted-to-50x-by-2023-cryptonews/
The Impact Project presale has now raised just over $2.8 million, barely a week after it began. This figure is only the latest milestone passed by the decentralized carbon credit marketplace and green shopping platform, which crossed the $2 million mark within five days.
Given how quickly the presale for the Impact Project’s IMPT token has progressed, it already stands as one of the most successful offerings of 2022, with the platform’s focus on the environment helping to attract ESG investors. Yet during a year in which a number of exciting new coins have gone on to surge after a healthy presale, it’s also attracting traders simply hoping for above-average gains.
This New Green Crypto is Predicted to 50x By 2023
Kicking off on October 3, the Impact Project presale quickly passed a number of key targets, first raising $150,000 within 24 hours. It then proceeded to reach $550,000 within 48 hours, $1 million within 72 hours, and then $2 million within five days.
As of writing, the presale has set IMPT’s price at $0.018. However, this is for only the first stage, with the second and third/final stages set to push the presale price to $0.023 and $0.028, respectively. It, therefore, seems that many investors have rushed in to acquire the altcoin before it becomes 27.7% more expensive, which is due soon.
Of course, investors are taking to the Impact Project also because of its fundamentals and roadmap. Running on the Ethereum blockchain, it will provide consumers with the ability to shop via a network of “thousands” of retail brands which distribute a percentage of their sales to environmental initiatives.
Not only will the Impact Project’s platform allow consumers to shop in a more environmentally conscious way, but it will also reward them for this with carbon credits in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Such credits can also simply be bought via the Impact Project’s marketplace, where users can also sell them.
By providing users with tokenized carbon credits for eco-friendly shopping, the Impact Project will incentivize greener behavior on the part of consumers. Correspondingly, by providing a stream of consumers willing to spend with green brands, it will, in the long term, incentivize retailers to turn green in order to tap into such markets.
It’s also worth pointing out that by putting carbon credits on the Ethereum blockchain as NFTs, the Impact Project will help make the market for carbon offsets more transparent. For too long, this market has been undermined by opaqueness and inefficiency, yet by making the issuing and circulation of credits more open, the Impact Project should help rectify this.
It’s for such reasons that the Impact Project has captured the interest of ESG investors. And with ESG investment increasing in popularity in recent years, the Impact Project has arguably appeared at the right time to capitalize on this growing trend.
How High Can It Go?
Predicting the future is a fool’s errand, yet other big presales from 2022 offer some indication of what IMPT might do once its presale has finished and it gains its first listings.
Tamadoge (TAMA), for example, closed its presale after raising $19 million. It then listed soon after on OKX, before proceeding to rise by over 1,800% from its presale price.
Likewise, Battle Infinity (IBAT) sold for $0.0015 during its presale. Soon after it was listed in August, it rose to $0.00554060, representing a return of 269% for anyone who sold at the top.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that IMPT will replicate such gains. Nonetheless, its fundamentals are strong, and with its presale already doing well, it looks like it has the kind of momentum that will carry into its initial batch of listings.

Stock Market News Live Updates: Stocks Fall To Start Busy Week Of Earnings, Inflation Data – Yahoo Finance https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/stock-market-news-live-updates-stocks-fall-to-start-busy-week-of-earnings-inflation-data-yahoo-finance/
U.S. stocks extended a downtrend on Monday as Wall Street steered into third-quarter earnings season and braced for a batch of inflation reports.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) led the way down, dropping 1.2% to a two-year low as a set of fresh restrictions by the Biden administration on China’s access to American technology sent chip stocks tanking and weighed on the broader tech sector. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) slid 0.9% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) shed 150 points, or 0.5%.
Declines accelerated in the afternoon as investors weighed comments from JPMorgan (JPM) Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon indicating the U.S. economy is likely to enter a recession in six to nine months. Dimon told CNBC at a conference in London that inflation, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and the impact of Federal Reserve rate hikes create a “very, very serious” mix that could result in an economic downturn, adding also that Europe is in a recession already.
Technology stocks took the brunt of Monday’s selling as chip stocks plunged. Measures imposed by the U.S. to curb China’s access to semiconductors aim to slow the country’s technological and military advances but deal a further blow to an industry already struggling with weaker revenues as demand slows for computers, smartphones, and other electronic devices. Shares of major chipmakers including Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) fell roughly 4% and 2%, respectively.
The CBOE Volatility Index (^VIX), which measures short-term expectations for market turbulence, spiked above the 33 level. And Treasury yields extended their recent climb higher. Oil retreated after surging 17% last week, the largest jump since Russia invaded Ukraine.
The moves come after an erratic week that began with a fierce rally and concluded with a sharp sell-off that erased much of the resulting gains. The latest downslide was spurred by a strong September jobs report that confirmed to investors Federal Reserve officials are unlikely to shift away from restrictive monetary policy any time soon.
The benchmark S&P 500 index is down 23.6% year to date as of Friday’s close, but nine single trading days comprise that entire decline of 32 total points, according to Nicholas Colas of DataTrek Research.
The greater share of down days occurred around Consumer Price Index (CPI) or Federal Reserve-related events, one was prompted by Russia-Ukraine tensions, and two came on the heels of bad corporate earnings releases, he added. In the week ahead, all of those factors are expected to test the U.S. stock market.

Investors are gearing up for the flurry of bank earnings that typically mark the start to a new earnings reporting period, with results from JPMorgan (JPM), Citi (C), Wells Fargo (WFC), and Morgan Stanley (MS) all due out. Other companies set to report this week included PepsiCo (PEP) and Delta Air Lines (DAL).
Analysts are bracing for a painful earnings season as persistent inflation, higher interest rates, and geopolitical headwinds weigh on companies’ bottom lines.
“The bear market will not be over until the deteriorating fundamental picture is more fully discounted,” Morgan Stanley’s top equity strategist Mike Wilson said in a note.
Also on Wall Street’s plate is September consumer price data, one of the most pivotal reports ahead of the FOMC’s next policy-setting meeting in November. While the headline reading is expected to moderate again, all eyes will be on the “core” component of the report, which strips out the volatile food and energy categories. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg project core CPI rose to 6.5% from 6.3% over the year, per the latest estimates.
“Volatility is going to persist in equity and fixed income markets until there’s a clear indication that inflation is under control,” Peter Essele, head of portfolio management at Commonwealth Financial Network, said in a recent note.

From the historic cobblestone streets of Montreal and Quebec City to the towering waterfalls and spectacular fjords of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, and with Charlevoix’s bountiful farmlands in between, visitors road-tripping across Quebec will discover a surprising breadth and depth of experiences.
This road trip traces an approximately 437-mile itinerary beginning in the international hub of Montreal, heading to the historic old town of Quebec City, then winding through the farmlands and port towns of the Charlevoix region, ultimately reaching Saguenay and the small vacation villages along Lac-St.-Jean, the last stop on the edge of where the “savage” wilderness of Quebec begins.
You could easily spend two weeks or more on this Quebec route, exploring the province’s many immersive city experiences and backcountry byways, but this weeklong itinerary still shows off some of the highlights you can see in a quick trip or use as inspiration for a longer journey.
While this drive is great from spring through fall (and even in winter for ski enthusiasts), autumn in Quebec is a highlight, for both its vibrant fall foliage and the fruit and wine harvests in farm country. Add the cool, crisp air, and you have a perfect setting for outdoor activities. From September through November, Quebec regularly updates its province-wide fall foliage map.

Mount Royal Park
Day 1: Montreal
Begin your Quebec journey in Montreal, a Canadian epicenter of cuisine, culture, shopping and history that can be a full vacation destination in itself. To get a literal overview of the city, start your day with a stroll in the eponymous Mount Royal Park. Beginning in mid-September (depending on the weather), you can expect to see oranges, yellows and reds bursting forth along the park’s many tree-lined paths.
For a different sort of city overview, hop aboard La Grand Roue de Montreal, the nearly 200-foot-tall Ferris wheel in Montreal’s Old Port waterfront entertainment district. Checking out the city lights at night from the Grand Roue makes a nice bookend to the morning perspective from Mount Royal. Montreal’s famed Cirque du Soleil offers performances in a big circus tent along the waterfront, but be sure to purchase your tickets in advance, as many performances sell out.
In keeping with the road trip theme, a fun way to explore Montreal’s waterfront is by bicycle. Ça Roule Bike Tours, headquartered at the Old Port, leads guided rides across the city. Take the flat, family-friendly route to the Old Port along the St. Lawrence River, crossing over to St. Helen’s Island to see the unique architecture of Expo 67 and the Biosphere from Montreal’s World’s Fair. Cruise around Parc Jean-Drapeau to enjoy its fall foliage (or a summer swim in its Aquatic Complex).
Food & lodging
The Omni Mont-Royal Hotel, about midway between Mount Royal Park and the port, is near shopping and McGill University, and makes a good base for your Montreal visit. For a one-stop destination where you can savor Montreal’s diverse food offerings, head to the 40,000-square-foot Time Out Market in the city’s Eaton Centre mall (a short walk from the Omni), with 16 local restaurants offering cuisines from around the world. In the Old Port district, grab lunch at the new La Cantine terrace restaurant.
And of course you can’t leave the city (or the province) without sampling the region’s signature dish, poutine — French fries with cheese curds, gravy and every manner of added ingredients. Montreal Poutine, near the Old Port, is a great spot to try it out.

Old Town Quebec City
Day 2: Quebec City
Quebec City, about a 170-mile, three-and-a-half-hour drive from Montreal, is a smaller, more historically preserved city than its big sister to the southwest. Walking the cobblestone streets of Quebec City’s Old Town through the shop-lined alleyways of the Petit-Champlain district, you’ll see centuries-old churches, city walls and monuments. You can fuel this city road trip with ice cream cones, maple syrup treats and, of course, more poutine.
See and hear the past come alive in Quebec City by joining a historical walking tour with Cicerone Tours, whose costumed guides play characters from the 18th century and offer a personal perspective on the city, giving their family histories of working and living in the surrounding buildings.
Food & Lodging
The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, looming over the city like a castle on a hill, is Quebec City’s iconic lodging property, with hundreds of refurbished rooms and lavish public areas. Its breakfast buffets alone are worth a visit. Dine at La Bȗche in the Old City to try traditional Quebec cuisine, including shepherd’s pie and homemade poutine with a maple-whiskey sauce. Visit the Archibald Micro brasserie to sip microbrews produced in-house, which pair very well with their burgers.

Day 3: Quebec City Side Trips
Just outside Quebec City, road-trippers can start to enjoy both the majesty of nature and the bounty of the province’s farmlands.
A 15-minute drive from Quebec City, the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is worth visiting for a couple of hours to marvel at 272-foot Montmorency Falls from above and below — and maybe even in front, dangling on a zipline. Park near the bottom of the falls and take a stroll on the boardwalk close to the waters, then ride a cable car to the park and suspension bridge above the cascade. Guided tours explore the history of the manor (with a few ghost stories mixed in) and lead to observation decks where you can take in the panoramic view, enjoying both the fall foliage and the cool, refreshing mist from the falls.
Next drive across the St. Lawrence River on the historic Pont de l’Île d’Orléans suspension bridge to the bucolic island of Orléans. While any time from spring through summer will make for a pleasant visit to the island’s many farms, wineries, and markets, the fall harvest time, with its bounty of fresh fruits and food offerings, is a real treat.
Splurge for lunch with lobster and shrimp rolls and trout tartare at La Goéliche Restaurant, overlooking the St. Lawrence River, then head to Chocolaterie de l’Île d’Orléans for ice cream (some of the best strawberry ice cream you’ll ever taste) and delectable chocolates.
Make a circuit tour of the island’s unique food and wine producers, stopping at Cassis Monna & Filles for its black currant cassis liquors and jams and at Cidrerie Verger Bilodeau for some hard and nonalcoholic ciders. Sit on a park bench to enjoy wine tastings and the views from the hilltop Isle de Bacchus vineyard.

Le Massif
Day 4: Le Massif and Club Med Charlevoix
Driving northeast from Quebec City along the St. Lawrence River on Route 138, you’ll see a quick transformation from an urban setting to small-town rural Quebec. The river widens, the mountains rise, forests begin to cover the hills, and you can feel life slowing down a bit.
One way to immerse yourself in natural Quebec while still enjoying all the comforts of home is to stay at the recently opened Club Med Quebec Charlevoix, about an hour’s drive from Quebec City. The resort is adjacent to Le Massif de Charlevoix ski mountain, which is open year round for hikers, bikers, skiers and sightseers.
Take the gondola 2,500 feet up to the peak of Le Massif, and marvel at the views over forests and the St. Lawrence. You can return by gondola or join a guided hiking or mountain biking tour down the mountain (or, in winter, strap on skis or snowshoes).
You can join guided hikes through the nearby hills, known for their maple syrup harvesting. Taste freshly made syrup in spring, and just enjoy the gentle trails in summer and fall, taking plenty of breaks to appreciate autumn’s dazzling maple trees.
Back at Club Med, reward yourself for your outdoors exertions by indulging in the resort’s all-inclusive meals. Sample a little of everything at their buffet —about half the size of Quebec — try your hand at fondue at Terroir & Co. or dine at the upscale Le Chalet for steak frites in the atmosphere of an Alps ski chalet.
Club Med’s facilities and activities (including a large pool and hot tub, circus training and performances, Kids Clubs and music shows) can keep a family occupied for a week. Or just use it as a good spot to recharge mid-trip before heading farther into the province.
Hemis / Alamy Stock Photo
Charlevoix region
Day 5: Charlevoix
Driving farther north into the Charlevoix region, you’ll pass lots of farms, their red barns and well-tended fields giving way to forested mountains behind them. Kids will enjoy a visit to the Ferme Marie-Noëlle Beaulieu near Baie-Saint Paul to pet some of their menagerie of farm animals and learn about typical Quebecois farm life. You can explore more farms and food producers at dozens of stops along Charlevoix’s Route des Saveurs (“Trail of Flavors”).
Get a feel for small-town life in Baie-Saint-Paul in the Charlevoix region, about 60 miles from Quebec City. Its central Saint-Jean-Baptiste Street offers a walkable, tourist-friendly stroll among curio shops, restaurants and art galleries.
Just outside of Baie-Saint-Paul, you can explore the region’s nautical heritage at the Musée Maritime de Charlevoix (group reservations required in the off-season, after Oct. 9). It’s a shipping museum so authentic you’ll half expect a salty old sea captain to pull you aboard one of the restored fishing vessels for a sail. Wander through the gardens, ships and workshops. You can even sit in the hold of one of the old fishing vessels to watch a film on the region.

Digital Care Platform Elder Secures £20m Funding Boost – Sky News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/digital-care-platform-elder-secures-20m-funding-boost-sky-news/
A healthcare platform which helps pensioners to continue living in their own homes has secured a £20m funding boost as it seeks to expand its services.
Sky News understands that Elder, which has 4,000 professional carers registered on its platform, has struck a deal worth up to €24m in debt and equity financing.
Elder, which was founded by Peter Dowds in 2015, connects carers, older people and their families, and says it has helped deliver more than 10 million hours of care across the UK since its launch.
The new funding, which will be announced later this week, is being provided by IPF Partners, a Luxembourg-based healthcare-focused investor.
Existing shareholders in Elder include Acton Capital, Bolero and MMC Ventures, a leading venture investor which has invested in companies including Bloom & Wild, the digital florist, and Gousto, the meal-kit delivery platform.
Mr Dowds said IPF Partners’ backing would be “invaluable in scaling our pioneering care-tech platform, and providing a genuine solution to the UK’s social care crisis”.
“As it stands, traditional care solutions can’t keep up with the needs of our ageing population.
“We want to help as many people as possible remain independent and supported in their own homes, rather than feeling residential care is the only option.”
Alongside its new funding, Elder has hired Andy Britcliffe, a former Purplebricks, Holiday Extras and Sporting Index executive, as chief product and technology officer.
Elder’s last major funding round was in 2020.
Food Expert Charges Nigerians On Healthy Eating Habits – Blueprint Newspapers Limited https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/food-expert-charges-nigerians-on-healthy-eating-habits-blueprint-newspapers-limited/
In the face of rising health challenges and death rates from food related illnesses, Nigerians have been advised to cultivate of a habit of healthy living by paying close attention to they eat and drink.
A food expert and lifestyle specialist, Queen Ikuazom, gave this advice in Abuja, over the weekend during a food and fashion show exhibition to open a new organic food outlet.
Ikuazom who expressed concern over the way Nigerians eat, was particularly disturbed by the choices they make of chemically processed food over pro-biotic food supplies.
She argued that regular food such as chicken, yams, or even jollof or coconut rice, grilled fish and prawns can be organically grown and made into consumable food without being contaminated.
She said, ” You are what you eat. You can start a small farm behind your house and ensure that you know the source of your food. If you are eating out, make sure you know the source and be satisfied that it is truly organic even from the farm.
“We do that and we cannot eat or sell inorganic food to people because we want them to remain healthy. We believe that food is medicine and if you are able to get it right in your guts, you will get it right with the rest of your body.”
Ikuazom who is the founder of QEI, a health and wellness initiative also harped on the need to balance what what we eat with organic foods and drinks.
The theme of the exibition : “Our food our medicine,” is to draw attention to the dangers inherent in chemically processed food and to challenge both government and the people to pay close attention to what food and drinks they consume.

Matlacha Bridge — “the fishingest bridge in the world” — breached at its foot.
Fort Myers Beach’s iconic Time Square and the Beach pier — gone.
Cape Coral’s historic Yacht Club pier — no more.
Hundreds of houses and a multitude of businesses on Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island, Matlacha and along Cape Coral’s Gold Coast and all along the Caloosahatchee riverfront and Gulf-access canals — destroyed or heavily damaged.
Death, injuries and countless lives and livelihoods left behind in the wreckage wrought by Hurricane Ian, which roared ashore on Cayo Costa just shy of a Category 5 hurricane with winds topping 150 mph and catastrophic storm surge estimated as high as 18 feet.
Hurricane Ian was Florida’s deadliest hurricane since the Great Labor Day Hurricane that swept over in the Keys with storm surge of up to 20 feet and winds hitting 183 mph in 1935, leaving 423 dead. Ian’s death toll is expected to exceed that of Hurricane Andrew, which devastated the Miami and Homestead area in 1992, killing 62 in South Florida.
As we write this, 123 have been reported dead, including 53 of our neighbors — ages 19 to 96 — here in Lee County. Another 24 died in Charlotte, another six in Sarasota County.
Damage estimates range from $41 billion to $70 billion.
We’ve taken a catastrophic hit.
We’re suffered a devastating loss.
But we will rebuild.
It is what we do.
It is what we have done when times have been tough and tough they have been for Southwest Florida over the last couple of decades.
Hurricane Charley hit us hard in 2004, also coming ashore at Cayo Costa, with Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva heavily damaged.
We built back.
We were the epicenter when the real estate bubble bust nationwide, spawning the Great Recession in 2006.
We hung tough, building back livelihoods and businesses to create an economy that was stronger than ever.
Hurricane Irma gave us a wack in September of 2017, causing $829 million in damages throughout Lee County. Cape Coral saw significant losses along its canal fronts where miles of seawalls collapsed due to receding and returning waters.
We built back.
And we will build back, have, in fact begun to do so.
In the grieving wake of loss of life.
From the little to nothing left of lives lived in homes and businesses no longer standing.
From the memory of what we, as a community, as a region, can be.
And will be again.

Technology and time have brought about fancy new kitchen gadgets but some must-have kitchen tools haven’t changed in a century or more. The mortar and pestle, for example, has been around for more than thirty-five thousand years and still gets plenty of use in a modern kitchen. Some other low-fi kitchen gadgets like the whisk have only been around since the 19th century, according to one report by the New York Times. The gadget-gaga Victorians invented the modern wire whisk we still use today. In the 20th century years the still-popular kitchen goods store Williams-Sonoma, founded by Chuck Williams, was the top source for wire whisks in the 1960s and 1970s.
However, recipes like whipped cream and even soufflés predate the invention of the modern whisk. How, then, did cooks of yesteryears manage to make whipped cream? Before the invention of the whisk or the electric mixer, chefs used a stunningly simple tool to make fresh whipped cream.
Nature provides to make whipping cream

Per Food & Wine, whipped cream dates back to the 16th century, found in recipes in Italy and France. In one recipe book that dates to 1629, there is a reference to crème fouettée which is French for “whipped cream.” Since there were no Williams-Sonoma chain stores about to buy a modern wire whisk, cooks and bakers used branches to whip the cream into its fluffy, cloud-like texture. They went straight to nature and tore down willow or rush branches from trees to make whipped cream. However practical and economic these nature-made whisks were, in practice the tool was more laborsome: it could take over an hour to make a batch of whipped cream.
If you ever find yourself in a pinch and need a whisk for whipped cream, you can try the willow branch technique–just make sure to whip at degrees under 50 degrees Fahrenheit, or else you’ll make butter. For urban dwellers or anyone who doesn’t want a tree branch in their whipped cream, try the cocktail shaker hack to whip cream without a whisk.

(David Szauder for The Washington Post)
The scenarios are … grim.
October 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. EDT
Imagine it’s Jan. 20, 2025. Inauguration Day. The president-elect raises his right hand and begins to recite the oath: I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear …
It’s an anti-Trumper’s nightmare, but it could happen: 47 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents want Trump to be the nominee in 2024, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll. And if Trump and Joe Biden are the contenders, Trump narrowly edges Biden, 48 to 46 percent, among registered voters (albeit within the poll’s margin of error).
The twice-impeached president’s tenure in office was a festival of democratic norm-breaking, culminating in the “big lie” about the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 insurrection. A second term would likely bring more of the same — only this time Trump would have four years of practice under his belt.
To help game out the consequences of another Trump administration, I turned to 21 experts in the presidency, political science, public administration, the military, intelligence, foreign affairs, economics and civil rights. They sketched chillingly plausible chains of potential actions and reactions that could unravel the nation. “I think it would be the end of the republic,” says Princeton University professor Sean Wilentz, one of the historians President Biden consulted in August about America’s teetering democracy. “It would be a kind of overthrow from within. … It would be a coup of the way we’ve always understood America.”
Based on what these experts described, here’s a portrait of a democratic crackup in three phases.
Phase 1: Trump seizes control of the government …
… And installs super loyalists.
“Among the first things he would do, in the initial hours of his presidency, would be to fire [FBI Director] Christopher Wray and purge the FBI,” says Larry Diamond, senior fellow in global democracy at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. Diamond’s research has focused on the plight of democracy in other countries, but lately he’s been thinking and writing about its ailments in America. Trump “would then set about trying to politicize the FBI, the intelligence agencies and as much of the government as possible,” Diamond continues. “He has complete authority to appoint the senior ranks of the National Security Council. So you could see [retired Lt. Gen.] Michael Flynn” — who was pardoned by Trump after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI — “as the national security adviser again, or somebody else who would not represent any of the prudence and restraints and efforts to rein in Trump’s more authoritarian and impulsive instincts.”
FBI directors serve 10-year terms across presidential terms to depoliticize the job. Wray, who was appointed by Trump but lost his favor, ascended to the post in 2017 after Trump fired his predecessor, James Comey, partly to undermine the bureau’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Comey’s firing caused an uproar and helped lead to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller to oversee the Russia probe. It’s doubtful firing Wray would cause much backlash from Trump’s allies in Congress and his base, given widespread Republican criticism of the search of Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida home, to retrieve classified documents. But even if his allies did balk, Trump might not care; he wouldn’t have to face voters again. Trump made his own view of federal law enforcement clear at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., in September: “The FBI and the Justice Department have become vicious monsters controlled by radical-left scoundrels, lawyers and the media who tell them what to do.”
“I think certainly in the power ministries — State, CIA, Defense, Justice — he will look to put true loyalists in,” a senior Pentagon official in the Trump administration, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told me by email. “When I say loyalist, I mean somebody who places their loyalty to him above their oath of office.”
In his first term, Trump burned through Cabinet members at a high rate because they kept failing the loyalty test: Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper objected to using the military to put down racial justice protests. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reportedly called Trump a “f—ing moron.”
Trump supporters chalk up the churn to a chaotic transition that failed to elevate the right talent to key positions. Now, a number of outside groups formed by supporters and former Trump administration officials are aiming to fix that problem by identifying and vetting a government-in-waiting that will be ready to serve Trump or a Trump-like president right away. “We just have to be more organized and more purposeful and more strategic, and ensure that we have the right team of people from the very top … and then ensuring that we’ve got a structure in place that allows us to move forward our agenda,” says Brooke Rollins, director of the Domestic Policy Council during the Trump administration, now president and CEO of the America First Policy Institute.
If Trump installed loyalists at the FBI and Justice Department — picture as the next attorney general Jeffrey Clark, the Justice official who tried to get the department to help overturn the 2020 election — then any lingering federal investigations of Trump could be dropped. An endless series of investigations of Hunter Biden, Liz Cheney, Merrick Garland, Brad Raffensperger, Letitia James and other perceived enemies could begin. “This is a guy for whom political revenge is pretty front and center,” says Steven Levitsky, a professor of government at Harvard University and co-author of the book “How Democracies Die.” “He’s going to come in and use the state to go after his enemies. He has a long list of grievances against people. … He’s going to come in like an authoritarian autocrat on steroids.”
Loyalists would lead other departments as well. While in office, Trump futilely tweeted at the Federal Reserve, seeking a monetary policy that would benefit him politically, and compared Chairman Jerome Powell to an “enemy” like China’s Xi Jinping. Powell’s term is up in 2026. If Trump could get a loyalist through the Senate, interest rates could be manipulated to juice the economy ahead of elections, says Stanford political scientist Francis Fukuyama, author of “The End of History and the Last Man” and, most recently, “Liberalism and Its Discontents.” Meanwhile, a politicized Bureau of Labor Statistics could lead to monthly jobs reports suddenly becoming suspect. Or how about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention? Says Fukuyama: “Do you want people who believe in hydroxychloroquine making these decisions?”
He governs without Senate advice and consent.
Democrats hope to retain control of the Senate in the 2022 midterm elections. But even if they do, a Trump victory in 2024 presupposes that he will have strong coattails to sweep in down-ballot candidates — and a Trumpified Senate could reasonably be expected to approve his nominees for top jobs in his administration.
What if, however, a few Republicans balk at nominees who are just too beyond the pale? Or what if the Democrats hold a majority? Not a problem. By the end of his first term, Trump had mastered the art of governing without the advice and consent of the Senate. In part he was forced to do so by Democratic obstruction and by the terrible dysfunction of the appointments process — an already damaged corner of our democracy. But Trump, more than any other president in memory, relied on “acting” Cabinet secretaries and unconfirmed agency chiefs who wielded delegated authority. “I sort of like ‘acting,’ ” Trump told reporters in 2019. “It gives me more flexibility.”
It can also create chaos. In the last year of Trump’s term, the Government Accountability Office found that his acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and the acting DHS deputy were serving unlawfully, calling into question the legitimacy of their policy decisions. But there’s little to stop a president willing to skirt the rules and run out the clock on his term. It would take both houses of Congress to stand up to him, perhaps wielding the power of the purse as a cudgel, says Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan group focused on effective government and smooth presidential transitions. And what if a gridlocked Congress failed to check an out-of-control chief executive? Stier told me: “If the president decides they’re going to install a secretary of defense that isn’t actually confirmed, and Congress isn’t going to try to respond with their powers and try to stop that, I think the reality is that there’s not much that you can do.”
He creates a MAGA civil service.
Installing loyalists at the top of government won’t be enough. As for populating the rank and file with those who echo the former president’s slogan of Make America Great Again, Trump tipped his hand near the end of his term, when he signed an executive order designed to strip as many as tens of thousands of federal employees of their civil service protections. The order created a new category of employees, dubbed Schedule F, targeting those whose jobs arguably include a degree of policymaking. Top officials would be able to fire them almost at will. President Biden rescinded the order shortly after he was inaugurated. If Trump were reelected, he’d reinstate the policy, Axios reported in July.
“They are using the language of good government to justify this, saying that this is the only way that you can discipline poo...

PayPal Says It Never Intended To Fine Users For ‘Misinformation’ – Bloomberg News – U.S. News & World Report https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/paypal-says-it-never-intended-to-fine-users-for-misinformation-bloomberg-news-u-s-news-world-report/
(Reuters) – PayPal Holdings Inc has no intention of fining customers for spreading “misinformation”, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, after a new user agreement outlining such a plan from the digital payments giant met with strong backlash.
PayPal published policy updates prohibiting customers from using its services for activities identified by it as “sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” promoting misinformation, the report said, citing a statement from the company.
The new policy was supposed to go into effect on Nov. 3, threatening a penalty of $2,500 on customers for each violation, the report added.
Shares of PayPal were down nearly 5.1%.
PayPal’s former president David Marcus slammed the policy in a tweet on Saturday, saying the new policy “goes against everything I believe in”.
“A private company now gets to decide to take your money if you say something they disagree with. Insanity” Marcus tweeted.
Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla Inc chief who co-founded PayPal, tweeted “Agreed”, replying to Marcus’s tweet.
PayPal did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

CNHI News
JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri-born Harry S. Truman became just the 10th U.S. president to be represented in the U.S. Capitol rotunda after the unveiling and dedication Thursday of a bronze statue of his likeness.
The 33rd president is often remembered for his contributions to end World War II, the desegregation of the armed forces and the establishment of the United Nations, NATO and the National Security Council, so it’s fitting that he finally return to Washington, D.C., to be honored, say experts and officials who promote Truman’s legacy.
Truman was born in Lamar, where his birthplace remains a state historic site, and grew up in Independence. He was a farmer, small-businessman, U.S. Army veteran, county commissioner, U.S. senator and politician. He assumed the presidency April 12, 1945, after just 82 days of serving as vice president under Franklin D. Roosevelt.
According to the Truman Library Institute, Truman as president led the country through world-defining decisions, including:
• Ending World War II.
• Forming the United Nations and NATO.
• Desegregating the U.S. armed forces and federal workforce.
• Enacting the National Security Act of 1947 to create the National Security Council, Central Intelligence Agency, U.S. Air Force and Joint Chiefs of Staff.
• Recognizing the newly formed state of Israel.
• Resisting communist expansion and establishing alliances that resulted in an era of peace and prosperity.
‘Admired’ by Missourians
“President Truman may be remembered largely in black and white, but he is a 21st-century standard for presidential leadership and public service. His story is our story, America’s story,” said Alex Burden, executive director of the Truman Library Institute, in a statement. “Inheriting a global catastrophe after World War II, Truman shouldered the burden of leadership in a rudderless world with remarkable courage, integrity and humility. That’s why it’s a tremendous honor to lead this effort to bring Truman back to Washington more than 75 years since he boldly led our nation through some of the most dramatic and consequential chapters in America’s history.”
In a follow-up interview with the Globe, Burden said Truman, a Democrat, continues to have a strong bipartisan appeal. As a senator and president, Truman regularly worked both sides of the aisle and maintained good relationships with many Republicans, he said.
“That ability to cross the aisle and put party aside … is a rare ingredient to find in a politician these days, but I think most people recognize that’s important,” he said.
Even today, Truman is revered by politicians of all stripes. Missouri’s entire congressional delegation and state leaders, who are heavily Republican, were significant supporters of the statue project, Burden said.
“President Truman’s tenacity, character and courage to confront difficult problems are values admired by his fellow Missourians and people who study our history,” said Missouri U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, a Republican who played a crucial role in steering the project, in a statement. “No president faced more crucial decisions than those President Truman confronted in the first nine months of his presidency. It’s been an honor to work in the same Russell Senate offices he used for the last 12 years.”
Truman also endears himself to people in the 21st century because he was honest and spoke plainly, he failed in several business ventures before going into politics, and he pushed for civil rights and desegregation, Burden said.
“His character, I think, has an enduring appeal to people; the way he conducted his life and his business and his politics is without reproach,” he said. “I think he’s a political role model we can point to as an example of how we all want our elected officials to behave and comport themselves.”
Lest anyone think a president of the 1940s is no longer relevant, in many ways we’re still living in Truman’s world decades later, Burden said.
NATO, one of his creations, has reemerged on the international front because of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Years of relative peace in Western countries arose as a result of the Marshall Plan and Truman’s desire to see countries defeated in WWII restored as democracies. Many of his priorities, such as national health care and strong foreign policy, are still sought by political parties today.
“I think we’re all benefiting from living in almost eight decades of peace and prosperity of the world order that Truman put in place in the late 1940s,” Burden said.
About the statue
The statue of Truman, standing 7.5 feet tall atop a 3-foot inscribed pedestal, joined statues of presidents George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, Andrew Jackson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.
The project was spearheaded by the Truman Library Institute, which was founded by Truman himself as the nonprofit partner of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum. The nonprofit collected $400,000 in donations from across the country for the project and also recently led a $30 million renovation of the Truman Library in Independence.
Artist and sculptor Tom Corbin said in a statement that Truman was a president “who seemed to always be in motion.” As such, his statue portrays Truman walking down a set of steps “with a confident, open and welcoming quality” rather than standing still, as many other Capitol statues depict.
Corbin and others involved in the project also spent a lot of time reviewing portraits, photographs, videos and personal items from Truman’s presidential years in order to get his likeness just right, said Cassie Pikarsky, director of strategic initiatives for the Truman Library Institute and project lead for the statue.
“We also worked with members of Truman’s family to make sure to get every detail correct — from his World War I lapel pin and pocket square fold in his signature double-breasted suit to his Masonic ring with the number 33 that he always wore and his signature glasses,” she said in a statement.
To make room for Truman, the statue of Alexander Hamilton will be relocated from the rotunda to the Hall of Columns. Additional statues in the rotunda are a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. and a portrait monument to Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.
Truman’s statue also will become part of the National Statuary Hall Collection, which consists of 100 total statues, or two representing each of the 50 states. It will replace a marble statue of Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. senator from Missouri and great-great-uncle of the Neosho-born painter of the same name. The Benton statue will be relocated to the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia.
Heres An Essential Guide To The Historic City Of Dubrovnik TheTravel
Here’s An Essential Guide To The Historic City Of Dubrovnik – TheTravel https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/heres-an-essential-guide-to-the-historic-city-of-dubrovnik-thetravel/
The ancient city of Dubrovnik, on the Adriatic Sea in southeastern Croatia, is known for its dramatically walled old town, its red terra cotta roof tiles, and its emerald green ocean waters. For these and other reasons, it’s often called the pearl of the Adriatic. The city, which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, draws about 1.4 million visitors each year and is home to some 42,000 residents.
Founded in the 7th century, the peaceful vacation destination that visitors see today has had its share of hard times, most recently when it endured a months-long siege during the Serbian/Yugoslav war of 1991-92. Dubrovnik was badly damaged, and most of its iconic roof tiles were destroyed. A major restoration after the war restored the city to its former glory. Most of its historic buildings were constructed in the Middle Ages, and it is these landmarks that most tourists are keen to explore.
Ancient Buildings Define Dubrovnik’s Old Town
The Pile Gate is the traditional entrance into Old town of Dubrovnik, which can be easily explored on a walking tour. The gate was built in the 15th century and features a statue of St Blaise, Dubrovnik’s patron saint. The Stradun, or main road, runs from Pile Gate to Ploce Gate, at the other end of the city. Its paving stones were laid in 1468, and today the road is lined with outdoor cafes and restaurants.
Other top attractions in Old town include:
Onofrio’s Fountain built in 1438 by Onofrio della Cava, an Italian architect.
The Franciscan Monastery built in the early 1300s and is said to be one of the oldest apothecaries in Europe.
The Church of St Blaise is a Baroque-style building constructed in the early 1700s. It has a silver statue of the city’s patron saint on its altar.
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was originally built in the 12th century but rebuilt in 1673 after an earthquake. Another quake in 1979 revealed the remains of an older Romanesque cathedral underneath, and further excavations uncovered an even older church dating from the 6th century.
Walk Dubrovnik’s City Walls For Fantastic Views
Most of Dubrovnik’s old town is surrounded by defensive walls that measure over 6,300 feet and, in some places, are as high as 83 feet. The Old town has been enclosed since the 13th century. Two hundred years later, 15 towers were added to the walls, and some can be seen today. The walls have four entry gates into the Old town, Pile Gate, Ploce Gate, Peskarija Gate, and Ponta Gate.
The city charges a fee to those who want to walk the walls about $30 per person. Plan on about two hours to walk all the way around. Several cafes are situated on the route, offering beverages and snacks. Also, the city provides restrooms along the way. Several local companies offer guided tours of the walls.
Dubrovnik Has A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Connection
Sections of Dubrovnik are prominently featured in the wildly popular HBO series “Game of Thrones.” For example, the riot scene in the television series was filmed at Pile Gate, many scenes of the Red Keep were filmed inside the city’s Fort Lovrijenac, and scenes of the Purple Wedding were shot in the city’s Gradac park.
Also, one of the series’ most famous scenes, when Cersei walks naked in the streets of Kings Landing, was filmed on the Spanish steps at Saint Ignatius Church. Some of the local guide companies have created walking tours that specifically follow the scenes in “Game of Thrones.”
Beaches Near Old Town Offer Swimming, Water Sports
Several beaches are within walking distance from Old town, and some of them offer water sports such as kayaks and waterski rentals. In fact, sea kayaking is a particularly popular activity in Dubrovnik, and guided tours offer excursions to secluded beaches only reachable by water.
One beach location close to Old town and said to be good for families is Banje. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented, it’s a calm water pebble and sand beach, and has a nice view of Old town. Another beach that caters to families is Copacabana, which has shallow water and a small water park for youngsters. Sulic Beach is located in a scenic cove with cliffs on both sides. A nudist beach is located on nearby Lokrum Island. It’s accessible only by boat from the old harbor. Boats run throughout the day.
Most Hotel Accommodations Are Outside Old Town
Most of Dubrovnik’s resorts and boutique hotels are located outside the historic walled city, and many are built into the cliffsides to the east and west of the city, offering great views of the city walls and Dubrovnik’s beaches. Hotels in the area typically include breakfast in their rates. Well-regarded options include these:
Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, with nightly rates of about $330, is an 1890s building with a restaurant, an indoor pool, and a spa.
Hotel Dubrovnik Palace offers rates of about $165 and has views of the Adriatic Sea.
Rixos Premium Dubrovnik is a beachfront property with nightly rates of about $172.
Hotel Excelsior, where rates are around $227, offers two restaurants and a piano bar, and a spa and fitness center.
Royal Blue Hotel has balcony rooms and is beachfront, with rates from about $160.
Heritage Villa Nobile is located just 800 feet from a beach and has rates of about $220.

Heart: Taking stairs is a quick and accessible way to increase your daily workout
Taking care of yourself may be neglected when you’re balancing your profession, family, social commitments, and other tasks. However, things don’t have to be that way. Making time for the organ that keeps you alive is crucial for maintaining your health.
A busy lifestyle can make it extremely tough for you to care for yourself. However, it is important to take care of yourself and your heart to make sure you live a long and healthy life. In this article, we discuss how you can care for your heart if you have a busy schedule.
Follow these heart-healthy tips if you have a busy schedule:
1. Opt for healthy snacks while at work
Walnuts or almonds are delicious, heart-healthy, and satisfying snacks that you can easily pack up for work. They don’t need to be refrigerated, and if you don’t consume them, they may be stored in a zipped bag for weeks before going bad. People frequently use a shortage of time as an excuse for making harmful decisions but it can be altered with little effort.
2. Avoid consuming junk
There is nothing inherently wrong with feeding people while not poisoning them. Although it’s obvious that certain foods are superior to others. Choose nutrient-dense foods over ultra-processed, nutrient-depleted ones. Due to excessive preservatives, artificial additives, added sugar and salt, etc., these foods scarcely resemble natural foods. Additionally, they frequently strip these meals of their fibre and nutritional value.
3. Pick quality over quantity
Investing in higher-quality meals might be a fantastic investment for your heart health if you do have some money to work with. These choices might include organic, grass-fed, and pasture-raised options. Some upscale cuisine is really just marketing tricks. Even though many of them are supported by science.
4. Exercise
There is no alternative to exercising. Engage in HIIT or other highly effective and short-spanned workouts to squeeze in working out to your busy schedule. There is no doubt that spending a lot of time sitting down is bad for your heart and health. It decreases blood flow to the lower limbs, increasing the risk of blood clots, nerve discomfort, and vascular disorders. It increases the risk of heart disease, dementia, and type 2 diabetes.
5. Take the stairs
Taking stairs is a quick and accessible way to increase your daily workout. Don’t miss this chance to get some exercise if your workplace has stairs. Once you commit to making little adjustments like these, you’ll be inspired to take on more.
6. Try deep breathing
Increased blood pressure might become a permanent part of your health status if you experience extended periods of stress. Stress management is crucial to ensuring the prevention of various diseases. Long-term changes to your nutrition and physical exercise will undoubtedly enhance how your body reacts to stress.
7. Get regular checkups
Knowing your figures is an important first step in preventing heart disease. Your body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, fasting glucose, and cholesterol readings are good places to start. Plan a yearly physical with your doctor. Your doctor can study your family medical history in addition to screening tests to calculate your statistics in order to evaluate your risk for heart disease.
8. Reduce alcohol consumption
Reduce your alcohol consumption. Men shouldn’t drink more than two times every day. There shouldn’t be more than one drink each day for women. Drinking too much alcohol might make you gain weight and cause your blood pressure to rise. Furthermore, for certain people, it might exacerbate or aggravate heart failure.
Small steps towards a healthier lifestyle can ensure better health and longevity. Make smart choices today to secure your future.

NASCAR At Charlotte Results: Christopher Bell Wins His Way Into Round Of 8 At Bank Of America Roval 400 – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/nascar-at-charlotte-results-christopher-bell-wins-his-way-into-round-of-8-at-bank-of-america-roval-400-sporting-news/
Christopher Bell’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff chances seemed dead and buried entering Sunday’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Roval. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver sat toward the foot of the playoff standings.
He needed a win to advance to the Round of 8. He got just that.
It wasn’t easy. The race was fairly clean, staying green for more than 50 laps — a course record at Charlotte. That made things difficult for Bell, who trailed Chase Elliott, AJ Allmendinger and Tyler Reddick at different points.
But a late caution flag gave Bell new life. A gutsy pit stop gave him new tires and an impressive restart took him to second place, a second behind Kevin Harvick.
Then another caution flag waved, this time for debris on the track. A lengthy stoppage followed. Bell suddenly was in prime position to overtake Harvick on the restart. With a little less than two laps to go, Bell had the edge.

While Bell was crossing the finish line, there was another competition taking place at the other end of the postseason standings. Kyle Larson seemed to be in good shape after the opening two stages, in which he grabbed needed stage points. But the reigning Cup Series champion was dealt an ugly hand in the final stage. His car succumbed to mechanical issues, dropping him all the way to 35th place.
That was just the window Chase Briscoe needed. The Stewart-Haas driver nabbed ninth place in the race to seal a place in the Round of 8 — two points ahead of Larson.

NASCAR at Charlotte live updates, results, highlights
(All times Eastern)

5:31 p.m.: Christopher Bell wins at the Roval! He’s into the Round of 8!
— NASCAR on NBC (@NASCARonNBC) October 9, 2022
5:30 p.m.: Briscoe has a two point edge over Larson for the eighth spot!
5:29 p.m.: Cindric spins out! It’s between Briscoe and Larson for the eight spot!
5:28 p.m.: We’re back underway at Charlotte! Bell has the lead! That puts Larson just one point above the cut line.
5:26 p.m.: Red flag has been lifted. Some cars are pitting. We’re in overtime now! Two laps to go and playoff places still up for grabs.
5:19 p.m.: Red flag waved for debris! What a race this has been!
5:12 p.m.: CAUTION! A yellow flag is waved after Ty Dillon’s No. 42 collides with the wall. Bell and Harvick are going to be at the front for the race restart! Unbelievable stuff happening in Charlotte!
5:11 p.m.: Bell gets past Reddick for second place! He’s a second off of first place Kevin Harvick! Can Bell grab the checkered flag and get an automatic spot in the Round of 8?
5:10 p.m.: Bell’s in third place. He’s got new wheels and it surging up the field fast. Two laps to go!
5:09 p.m.: Three laps to go! Cindric and Briscoe are above Larson in the postseason standings at the moment.
5:04 p.m.: Austin Cindric in a very interesting situation. He’s eight points off Briscoe for the final spot in the Round of 8. Cindric could be headed to pit road? He’s in 20th place, but could make a climb up the standings with some fresh wheels. Decisions, decisions…
5:03 p.m.: CAUTION! A caution flag is waved after part of the wall ends up in the middle of the track. This could make a real big difference on the final playoff standings.
— NASCAR on NBC (@NASCARonNBC) October 9, 2022
5:02 p.m.: Larson back on the track. Looks like he’ll still have a chance of meeting the speed minimum. The stage points he earned earlier today have just got him in the Round of 8.
4:56 p.m.: Kyle Larson getting some serious work done on his car in pit road. He’s down to 31st in the standings. The reigning Cup Series champion might have just enough to get over the line. But it’s going to be super close.
4:55 p.m.: Contact made between Lajoie and Suarez! Looks like little retaliation from Lajoie. That’s only going to hurt Suarez’s playoff chances.
4:54 p.m.: Allmendinger has gained a second on Elliott. He’s had a very smooth race so far, but Elliott still in good shape.
4:47 p.m.: Elliott in a good spot with 15 laps left. Nearly five seconds in front of second-place AJ Allmendinger.
4:35 p.m.: Chastain collided with the wall, causing him some issues. He’s headed to pit road. Lost some serious speed over the past lap or so, prompting concerns over whether Chastain (17 points up above the cut line) can advance to the Round of 8.
4:33 p.m.: Suarez is on his way to the pits. Looks like his team is lifting the hood up and putting some fluid in it with the hope of improving his prospects.
4:27 p.m.: Elliott has a comfortable 4.5 second lead over Erik Jones’ No. 43 car. However, even more interestingly, Suarez is looking in terrible shape. His power steering issues are causing real issues — as of now, he’s out of the postseason.
4:22 p.m.: Allmendinger is on his way to pit road. He waited a mighty long time to get his car looked at. Chase Elliott, one of the best road racers in NASCAR, holds the keys to take the checkered flag at Charlotte now.
4:19 p.m.: Briscoe headed to pit road. Trying to get himself as ready as possible for the remaining 35 laps. He is praying that a caution flag isn’t waved in this final stage.
4:14 p.m.: Briscoe is over the cut line at the moment! Suarez has dropped all the way to 36 due to his power-steering problems. Lots of pressure on Briscoe, who currently sits in 17th place.
4:07 p.m.: Suarez now two points above the cut line. It’s looking very precarious. He’s using a lot of force to steer his car through the chicane.
4:05 p.m.: Daniel Suarez in big trouble at the moment. Looks like his power steering is jacked up after making contact with Lajoie. He’s five points above the cut line but dropping like a stone. With 45 laps to go, Suarez is on the brink of losing his spot in the Round of 8.
4:04 p.m.: Conor Daly headed to pit road. Looks like he’s having some sort of electrical problem beneath the dashboard. His day might be done.
3:58 p.m.: Reddick and Allmendinger setting the pace with 51 laps left. Solid showing by the two non-playoff drivers.
3:54 p.m.: Lots of contact on Lap 54. Chase Briscoe made some contact with other cars as they all made their way across the chicane. Looks like he’s having some issues with his handling after the collision.
3:41 p.m.: And it’s Chastain who notches the stage win! He captured the checkered flag at COTA earlier in the year. Now, he’s got a stage victory on another road course.
— NASCAR on NBC (@NASCARonNBC) October 9, 2022
3:39 p.m.: Chastain making a late dash for the stage. Could be an interesting finish here…
3:36 p.m.: A slew of drivers are headed to pit road, including postseason competitor Christopher Bell. Lots to consider, but it looks like it’s Allmindinger’s stage to lose at the moment.
3:32 p.m.: Lajoie taking his sweet time around the track. He’s in front of the likes of Byron, but his slower pace (he had to take a complete stop after missing the chicane) could cause some issues for those in need of points.
3:25 p.m.: Noah Gragson and Corey Lajoie getting into a bit of a scuffle around the chicane. Nothing too crazy, just a bit of a chippy affair after they bumped into each other. Neither racer giving an inch.
3:23 p.m.: Reddick still making a good account for himself. Looks like he and his team are aiming for one more victory before the end of the season. That would give him a great springboard for his 2023 campaign with 23XI Racing.
3:18 p.m.: Through 10 laps of Stage 2, the race leaderboard is flipped. Looks like those who opted for pitting earlier in Stage 1 hold positive positions, while those who waited until the stage break are languishing in the standings. If there’s no caution flags on Stage 2, expect things to remain fairly similar at the moment.
3:14 p.m.: Allmendinger snags the lead from Reddick on Lap 31. A decent play by the part-time Cup Series racer, who then blocks Reddick off from getting a draft on the straightaway. Allmendinger is gathering some excitement for next season; he’ll drive the No. 16 car for Kaulig Racing in 2023.
3:12 p.m.: It’s a trio of non-playoff drivers leading the way after six laps of Stage 2. Reddick, AJ Allmendinger and Justin Haley feature in the top three early.
2:59 p.m.: And it’s Logano who gets the stage win! Wire-to-wire dominance by the Team Penske driver.
— NASCAR on NBC (@NASCARonNBC) October 9, 2022
2:58 p.m.: Byron trying to make a run for first but it looks like Logano has it. He’s led all 24 laps today and has about a .75 second lead over Byron.
2:57 p.m.: Hamlin has launched himself into eighth place. He’s in solid spot to snag a playoff berth.
2:55 p.m.: Looks like those who desperately need stage points are staying on the track. However, non-playoff drivers and those so far out of the top-8 place race that they need a win or high finish (e.g., Christopher Bell) are headed to pit road. Could be a lot of reshuffling in the last two laps of Stage 1.
2:54 p.m.: Michael McDowell passes Justin Haley for ninth place. Looks like he’s pushing for Cindric’s spot in No. 8.
2:53 p.m.: Ross Chastain to pit road. Only five laps to go, but looks like his team is banking on Chastain making back the difference on some playoff drivers (Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe) after they pit following the end of Stage 1.
2:49 p.m.: The curre...

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is such a big believer in the idea of the metaverse that he changed the name of his company to Meta. However, a leaked internal memo suggests that few of the developers inside the company are as enthused as he is. Vishal Shah, Meta’s VP of Metaverse says in the memo that even the people developing the company’s flagship metaverse product, Horizon Worlds, aren’t using it. The reason? It’s just not very good.
Anyone who keeps up with Meta’s quest to build the metaverse will have to feign surprise here. Even people who don’t have a Quest headset have gotten a preview of the current state of Horizon Worlds, thanks to Zuckerberg himself. This summer, Zuckerberg was trying to celebrate the arrival of Horizon Worlds in France and Spain by posting a screenshot from the app (see above), but it only served to remind everyone how bad Horizon Worlds looks. Zuckerberg followed up by promising visual enhancements to the experience, but the problems may run deeper than that.
In Shah’s Sept. 15 memo, he concedes that Horizon Worlds has “quality gaps and performance issues,” and he wants the team to spend the rest of the year on a “quality lockdown.” The main issue, according to the leaked memo obtained by The Verge, is that Meta’s developers aren’t using it very much. If the people building the metaverse don’t want to use it, it’s unlikely consumers will go out of their way to explore Meta’s new pet project.
Even Meta’s developers don’t care much for the product they’re building.
This was not just a one-off rant by Meta’s lead metaverse executive. Shah followed up with another memo on Sept. 30 that called out specific issues and how he wants to address them. He noted the onboarding experience is confusing and frustrating for users and that Horizon Worlds still has not found a “market fit.” This is a sentiment I’ve heard from other people working on metaverse technology. While there’s a roadmap for hardware, no one knows what sort of experiences are going to work (if there even are any). Shah says a plan is being developed that will “hold managers accountable” to ensure their teams are using Horizon Worlds at least weekly.
Meta has thrown billions of dollars at the metaverse based almost entirely on CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s certainty that it’s the future of the internet. The company is also reportedly planning layoffs due to mounting metaverse losses and falling Facebook usage. If Meta can’t get its employees to care about Horizon Worlds, what chance does Zuckerberg’s next metaverse play have?

Grimcutty Ending Explained: Does Asha Defeat Grimcutty? The Envoy Web
Grimcutty Ending Explained: Does Asha Defeat Grimcutty? – The Envoy Web https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/grimcutty-ending-explained-does-asha-defeat-grimcutty-the-envoy-web/
Grimcutty follows Asha, an ordinary teenager, who finds herself battling with an internet meme that has come to life and is now forcing kids to hurt themselves. The movie is now streaming on Hulu.
Warning: This article contains heavy spoilers
Plot summary
Hoping to make it big on the internet, Asha, an ordinary teenager in a suburban town, spends time creating self-help videos for her audience.
She also comes from a family that believes there should be rules when it comes to being around technology. In order to keep a balance, Asha’s father, Amir, often likes his family to take one phone-free outing per week.
This time around, their outing was for a performance of their son, Kamran. While Asha opts to leave the show midway, Amir indulges in a conversation with another parent who tells him about a viral internet trend that has been catching up.
An internet meme that forced two kids to cut themselves because of some challenge. Kamran worries about his daughter, who has been active on social media lately.
Asha, with the help of her friend Emily, checks her online videos on Emily’s phone. She finds out that a girl named Cassidy Johnston seems to have liked her video, and has commented, ‘Wow’.
Amir comes looking for Asha and is disappointed that his daughter spoiled the phone-free day.
Amir’s worry about this internet challenge hits the roof when an image of that meme called, ‘Grimcutty’ starts circling around the internet. The messages suggest that this meme forced a kid to stab his own mother.
Amir, and Asha’s mother, Leah, invite Asha and Kamran for a heart-to-heart conversation and to ask if they have seen this meme.
Though they deny it, Amir plans to take away all of their gadgets in order to keep them safe. Kamran easily agrees, but Asha fights back, promising that she is sane enough and won’t stab her own parents.
Amir’s nightmares come true when Grimcutty arrives seeking his house and finds Asha, while she was making bread and watching videos online.
Asha claims she saw the same tall and dark creature from the meme. The cops suspect that this is another kid attempting to follow the internet challenge and consult Asha’s parents.
This was it for Amir and Leah. They forced their kids to put their gadgets in a detox box. Later that night, Asha confronted Kamran, who always has a backup.
He apparently keeps a second laptop, and Asha used it to contact other teenagers on social media, to figure out if any of them still have their phones.
When Amir made sure to cut the internet and Wi-Fi as well, Asha decided to break the detox box. She got her mobile back and was contacted by Cassidy Johnston, who saw her message online.
Cassidy urged Asha to come to school the next day no matter what, even though her parents may not let her come.
Following that, the Grimcutty made another move on Asha and tried to stab her. When her parents came to her rescue, they didn’t see Grimcutty. To them, it looked like Asha was hurting herself.
Grimcutty ending explained in detail:
Where does Grimcutty’s trend originate from?
Though Amir was against sending his daughter to school, Asha convinced her mother, who gave her permission. A lot of parents opted not to send their kids, and the school brought someone who could talk to them about their anxiety.
Asha and Cassidy got along and were hoping they will solve this mess. Asha was the only one up till now who has actually seen the Grimcutty. Cassidy hasn’t and her parents knew about the trend but didn’t panic about it that much, at least yet.
With the help of a rich kid in town named Oliver, the duo got their hands on a laptop and an internet connection. They realized that their parents are following the same set of rules.
Therefore, these rules must come from a commonplace.
Surfing the internet about things like detox boxes landed them on the blogs of Melinda Jaynes, who had also written about Grimcutty, but had deleted the post.
Asha and Cassidy also came to the conclusion that she is the mother, whose kid stabbed her because of Grimcutty.
Amir found his daughter missing from school. A social media post told Asha’s parents that she is at Oliver’s for a weird party that is mocking Grimcutty.
Asha got in touch with Kamran and learned that her parents are on their way. She tasked Kamran to look for Melinda Jaynes and posted about her on the internet.
Amir and Leah arrived at Oliver’s and caught Asha hurting herself, although she was struggling to protect herself from Grimcutty.
How Grimcutty works?
After saving Asha, Amir got a notification on his phone that someone at their house is using the internet. Turns out, it’s Kamran who is searching for Melinda Jaynes.
Amir and Leah freaked out and thought, much like Asha, he might also hurt himself. While the family left to save their son, the Grimcutty did make his move on Kamran.
Asha and Kamran found themselves at the hospital, with the latter unconscious. While Asha was full of guilt, she saw Kamran’s laptop nearby, where he had done the job of locating Melinda Jaynes.
Asha also finds Cassidy at the hospital, since Grimcutty got to her as well.
She details Melinda’s location to her and also tells her about an observation she has made through this experience.
It’s not them using the internet causing Grimcutty to appear. It’s their parents’ worry. Every time their parents’ hysteria over Grimcutty boils over, he appears to attack their kids.
Kamran never saw Grimcutty until his parents freaked out that he might be in danger. Similarly, for Cassidy, her parents were cool until they started worrying about her and Grimcutty, and that landed her in the hospital.
How Leah found out about Grimcutty’s truth?
Asha paid Melinda Jaynes a visit, and the latter straight denied knowing anything about Grimcutty. Asha’s urge to investigate her house forced her to break in.
She found Melinda’s son locked in a room. Melinda, with a shotgun, pointed at Asha and asked her to get out of her house. Eventually, Leah came looking for Asha, after realizing where her daughter is going through Kamran’s laptop.
Asha tried to tell Leah about Melinda’s son being locked up in a closet. That’s when Leah realized that her daughter might be freaking out, but she is definitely not a liar.
Asha confronted Melinda, who started worrying about her son and unknowingly summoned Grimcutty. When Asha went looking for Melinda’s son, she came across an invisible force that held him up in the air.
Why Melinda’s son attacked his own mother?
Melinda bought a shotgun to stop Leah, who in turn attacked her. As Melinda fell, she calmed down for a minute, and thus, Grimcutty disappeared. Melinda’s son came out and stabbed her mother in the leg.
It seems like Melinda has been keeping her son locked in a closet to save him from Grimcutty’s attack. She threw away all the technology from the house, and this, in turn, helped her calm down.
What she didn’t know is the fact that her freaking out is the reason Grimcutty appears to kill her son.
When Leah confronted Melinda, the latter confessed that she saw her son looking at Grimcutty and that made her worry, to the point where she surfed the internet looking for a solution.
The reason Melinda’s son may have attacked her is probably that he wanted to set himself free from her controlling nature and might’ve figured out how Grimcutty works. As she said, he was the first one to find out about it.
Melinda, on the other hand, always thought he was hurting himself. She also confessed to sharing the picture of Grimcutty online. Probably, she was hoping that hysteria will spread elsewhere and Grimcutty would stay away from her son.
How Asha killed Grimcutty?
Leah was now sure that her daughter is not lying and took Melinda’s son to the hospital. They both still had to convince Amir. Leah told Amir to take an injection to calm himself down, but he opted not to.
He was worried about Kamran after taking a look at his search history. In order to protect her brother and kill Grimcutty, Asha wanted her father to worry about her, not Kamran. This way, she can stab Grimcutty once it appears.
She had stabbed that entity before and had thought it will work.
She told her father that she was watching Grimcutty videos all day long. The entity appeared and made its move on Asha, but Amir intervened, and Asha accidentally stabbed her own father.
Amir continued following Asha and saw an invisible force, much like Leah did, holding Asha up in the air. Amir thought of trusting his daughter and injected himself with the syringe Leah gave him in order to calm himself down.
Luckily, Amir survived, and Asha was saved too.
After that incident, Asha addressed every other question revolving around Grimcutty through a video on her channel and explained how an understanding between parents and their kids would help them fight Grimcutty if it ever comes back again.

Searching for the best IEO crypto listings requires investors to conduct their own due diligence on both the project and the exchange that is hosting the fundraising campaign.
Therefore, in this section, we take a much closer look at the best IEO cryptos of 2022.
1. Tamadoge – Overall Best IEO Crypto Launch of 2022
One of the most successful crypto startups of the year is Tamadoge. This project launched its fundraising campaign in Q3 2022 and successfully hit its hard cap total of $19 million in just two months. Tamadoge is building a much-anticipated metaverse world that enables players to enjoy play-to-earn games (P2E).
The P2E game hosted by Tamadoge will focus on a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet that is created after minting an Ethereum-based NFT. Each Tamadoge pet will have its own characteristics, such of which are much rarer than others. This is, however, based on the randomness of the underlying smart contract that backs the Tamadoge ecosystem.
Players can earn TAMA tokens by playing the Tamadoge P2E game. One such mechanism in this regard will enable players to enter battles with their virtual pets. The more successful battles, the more TAMA tokens can be earned. Tamadoge will also be building a tool that enables players to breed their virtual pets in addition to augmented reality experiences.
Back to its price action, after completing one of the best crypto presales of the year, TAMA was accepted by the popular exchange OKX for its first listing. Investors responded well to the listing, with TAMA exploding by more than 1,000%. This makes Tamadoge one of the most searched crypto in this space.
Tamadoge is also offering its own unique NFT collection, which is being sold to the public in the coming days. Some of the NFTs within the collection are ultra-rare and by partaking in the NFT sale, this offers the best price possible. Tamadoge is also offering one of the best crypto airdrops as of writing, with a giveaway of $100k to one lucky winner.

2. Battle Infinity – P2E Gaming Metaverse World With Hugely Successful Presale
Next up on this list of the best IEO cryptos is Battle Infinity. After completing one of the best crypto ICOs in Q3 2022, Battle Infinity was successful in raising over $5 million. Not only did the project reach its initial hard cap total, but it did so in just 24 days of a 90-day campaign. The buzz surrounding Battle Infinity is largely due to its innovative ‘Multiverse’.
This spin on the metaverse will eventually provide a wide range of decentralized services to IBAT token holders, which is the native digital asset of the project. This is inclusive of a fantasy sports game – the IBAT Premier League. IBAT users can earn crypto tokens for building a fantasy team of sports players. This will initially include cricket, but more sports are to follow.
There will also be an NFT marketplace, a decentralized exchange, and a staking tool. This means that IBAT holders have the option of cashing out to another digital asset or earning passive income by staking their tokens. Both of which can be achieved in-house via the Battle Infinity Multiverse.
Battle Infinity also offers one of the best NFT collections in the space. By purchasing an NFT Pass, this offers access to the play-to-earn gaming network. In turn, not only will players will be able to earn IBAT tokens by winning P2E multiplayer games, but the value of NFT will be determined by demand and supply.
To buy Battle Infinity tokens in the fastest way possible, LBank supports debit and credit deposits. Alternatively, those with access to crypto can connect their wallet to PancakeSwap and exchange the tokens for IBAT.

3. Lucky Block – Huge Competition Prizes via NFT Tickets
One of the best IEO cryptos to consider right now is Lucky Block. This project conducted its initial presale in early 2022, raising more than $5 million in the space of a few weeks. Lucky Block has since been working hard behind the scene to build its much-anticipated NFT competitions platform, which operates in conjunction with blockchain and smart contract technology.
The main concept of this project is that each competition enables entry simply for buying an NFT. Two of the most lucrative competitions available at the time of writing include a $1 million UK home and $1 million worth of Bitcoin tokens. The cost of each NFT varies depending on the competition, albeit, prices are generally very affordable.
Once the respective NFT collection has sold out for the competition in question, Lucky Block will conduct the prize draw. The outcome of the draw is both transparent and guaranteed for fairness, considering that the lucky winner is determined by a smart contract. Before and after the competition, NFT holders will receive rewards – paid in LBLOCK tokens.
This will be the case for as long as the NFT is held by the player. In terms of its price action, LBLOCK tokens were originally sold at just $0.00015 during the presale in January 2022. LBLOCK subsequently hit an all-time of over $0.009 just a month later, rewarding early investors with gains of over 6,000%.
Those looking to buy LBLOCK tokens can now do so at a huge discount when compared to the aforementioned all-time high. The easiest way to complete the purchase is via PancakeSwap, by exchanging BNB for LBLOCK in real time. Based on prices at the time of writing, Lucky Block could be the best long-term cryptocurrency to hold.

4. Dash 2 Trade – Upcoming IEO That Shouldn’t be Missed
One of the best initial exchange offerings this year that is yet to launch is Dash 2 Trade. In a nutshell, Dash 2 Trade is building an innovative analytics dashboard that will offer high-level access to a full suite of crypto analysis tools. This includes a crypto signal service, which offers the Dash 2 Trade community trading suggestions.
For instance, the analytics platform might suggest going short on XRP/USD, with an entry price of $0.52. Each and every signal at Dash 2 Trade will also provide the suggestion stop-loss and take-profit orders for risk management purposes. Dash 2 Trade will also offer access to its analytical insights.
This includes metrics that scan social media platforms for insight into the top trending cryptos. Another notable feature of the Dash 2 Trade analytics platform is that it provides the community with real-time updates on the best IEO cryptos that should not be missed. This is in addition to trading competitions and access to high-level charts and market data.
Dash 2 Trade is expected to launch its IEO in October 2022, albeit, we are still waiting for a confirmed listing date. We do know that there will be just 1 billion D2T tokens in supply and that the project is built on top of the Ethereum blockchain. As per the whitepaper, Dash 2 Trade could be one of the best future cryptocurrency projects as we move toward 2023.
5. DeFi Coin – New Decentralized Exchange Project Built for the Community
Next up on this list of the best IEO crypto projects of 2022 is DeFi Coin. This up-and-coming project is building a decentralized exchange that is not only user-friendly but packed with features. At the forefront of this will be the ability to buy and sell crypto tokens instantly and anonymously, with no requirement to provide any personal details.
The process simply requires the buyer to connect their crypto wallet to the exchange – which is branded as DeFi Swap. Through an automated market maker protocol, buyers can purchase their required tokens without needing a seller. Once the DeFi Swap exchange is launched – which is expected to happen in the coming weeks, the initial focus will be on BSc tokens.
However, the team of developers is working on cross-chain functionality, which will likely support popular blockchain networks like Ethereum and Bitcoin. In the meantime, the DeFi Swap exchange will also be launching its staking facility in addition to a yield farming tool. Both of these features enable investors to generate a passive yield without requiring a third party.
Those with an interest in DeFi Swap can invest in this project by purchasing DeFi Coin tokens from PancakewSwap Taking into account that the project has been working on the development of its exchange for nearly one year, the price of DeFi Coin will attract value investors. This is because the project carries a market capitalization of just $1 million.

Inflation, Early Shopping To Slow U.S. Online Holiday Spending – Report – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/inflation-early-shopping-to-slow-u-s-online-holiday-spending-report-reuters/
Oct 10 (Reuters) – U.S. online holiday sales are expected to rise this year at their slowest pace since at least 2015, according to a report, as shoppers feel the brunt of decades-high inflation and soaring interest rates.
Adobe Analytics forecast online sales in November and December to rise 2.5% to $209.7 billion, compared with an 8.6% increase a year ago, as more people also return to in-store shopping and bring forward purchases to as early as October.
This is another sign of a gloomy holiday season, with FedEx Corp’s (FDX.N) Ground division expecting to lower volume forecasts to reflect customers’ plans to ship fewer holiday packages. Last month, Mastercard’s (MA.N) SpendingPulse report also forecast a slowdown in shopping for the holidays.

With annual inflation running 8.3% in August, Americans have been forced to cut back on discretionary purchases, while the U.S. Federal Reserve’s aggressive interest rate hikes are expected to further hit spending power.
“This is a radically different year than even any of the COVID fluctuations that we’ve seen in the past,” Adobe Digital Insights senior director Taylor Schreiner said.
“As the cost of basics like food and gas go up, consumers become much more price-conscious shoppers … and that influences consumers’ plans to wait for discounts and shop a little more vigilantly over the course of the season,” Schreiner said.
Companies such as Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), Target Corp (TGT.N), Walmart Inc (WMT.N) and Best Buy Co Inc (BBY.N) have been delving out early discounts to spur demand and get rid of excess stock, eating into the expected sales on major shopping days. Adobe expects discounts for electronics to be around 27%, compared to 8% a year ago.
Black Friday online sales are expected to grow just by 1% and Thanksgiving sales are anticipated to fall 1%, the Adobe report said.
Adobe’s forecast relies on direct consumer transactions based on over 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail websites.

Retailers Inventory Stockpiles Are At Record Highs Which Could Be Bad News For The Economy The Washington Post
Retailers’ Inventory Stockpiles Are At Record Highs, Which Could Be Bad News For The Economy – The Washington Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/retailers-inventory-stockpiles-are-at-record-highs-which-could-be-bad-news-for-the-economy-the-washington-post/
Dell has too many computers. Nike is swimming in summer clothes. And the Gap is flooded with basics like T-shirts and shorts.
After struggling with product shortages for much of the pandemic, the country’s retailers are now facing the opposite problem: an unprecedented glut of unsold merchandise that’s cutting into profits, derailing holiday plans and threatening to drag down broader U.S. economic growth.
In response, many of the country’s largest retailers are kicking off holiday sales earlier than ever, in hopes of clearing their warehouses enough to accommodate a new round of winter orders, according to company filings and earnings calls.
Target began its winter selling frenzy last week with $6 hoodies and half-off TVs. Amazon is hosting an unusual second Prime Day sale next week, less than three months after its last one. And dozens of other brands, including J. Crew and Nine West, are offering steep blanket discounts online and in stores.
“There is an increasing smell of desperation in the air because retailers are saddled with a ton of excess,” said Elaine Kwon, managing partner at Kwontified, a retail consulting firm, and a former manager at Amazon Fashion. “Some brands that claim they never discount are going to start discounting, especially outerwear, winter wear, cold weather items, inventory from last winter — they’re desperately trying to get rid of that before their new stuff comes in.”
High inventories have been plaguing companies all year, playing a big role in the recent contraction in the U.S. economy. But merchandise pileups have only grown. U.S. retailers have been sitting on a record $732 billion of inventory as of July — a 21 percent increase from a year ago, according to Census Bureau data.
And the timing couldn’t be worse, as Americans’ appetite for clothing, furniture, electronics and other goods has cooled off in part due to surging inflation but also because of changing pandemic patterns toward services like restaurants and travel. Monthly household spending on goods has slowed lately.
With inflation stubbornly near 40-year highs, many are finding that even the deepest discounts aren’t translating into sales. Americans are spending more of their budgets on essentials like gas and groceries, leaving less for nonessential items.
“There is a severe imbalance. Consumer spending is slowing but orders are still piling in,” said Gregory Daco, chief economist at Ernst & Young’s strategy consulting arm, EY-Parthenon. “Retail inventories are accumulating beyond levels that are desirable. It’s a very difficult rebalancing exercise that retailers are having to do, and it’s going to have an outsize impact on the economy.”
Consumer spending makes up about 70 percent of the economy. Inventories of products that consumers buy help explain how the economy is or isn’t growing. Although inventory figures helped boost economic growth for much of the past year, that changed in the most recent quarter. A pileup of merchandise dragged down total economic growth by 1.9 percent between April and June. Economists expect that trend to continue in the next gross domestic product report, expected out later this month.
“We’ve seen in the last few reports that inventory has been a key swing factor — in the second quarter, it was a massive drag on GDP growth, and that’s likely to continue,” said Daco, who expects a recession within the next six months. “If anything, this inventory offloading — the destocking cycle that retailers are going into — will exacerbate the downturn.”
In the meantime, extra goods are creating new challenges for retailers, including a lack of storage space and a shortage of cash. Concerns over diminished profits have also led to dramatic sell-offs in the stock market.
Shares of Target’s stock have fallen more than 34 percent so far this year, largely related to inventory concerns. Nike shares, meanwhile, fell nearly 13 percent in one day in late September after the retail giant said it would have to “aggressively” mark down products on its website and in its outlet stores.
“Because we had late product arriving for the spring, summer and fall seasons … we effectively have a few seasons landing in the marketplace at the same time,” Matt Friend, Nike’s chief financial officer, said in an earnings call last week. “We’ve decided to take that inventory and more aggressively liquidate it.”
Not even the country’s largest online retailer has been immune from inventory woes. An Amazon warehouse near Nashville has been overwhelmed by last winter’s puffy jackets and summer cans of bug spray, according to an Amazon employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of losing his job. (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post.)
“Our facilities have been overstuffed with excess inventory,” the employee said. “We were prepared for a whole new system where everybody was going to order from Amazon all the time, and that just hasn’t been the case. There’s so much leftover stuff — so many big bulky jackets taking up space — that people just didn’t buy.”
Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, department store chain Kohl’s has 48 percent more inventory than it did a year ago, in part because it has been holding on to $82 million worth of pajamas, fleece and other winter items that arrived late for last year’s holiday season. It plans to put those products out on shelves this fall.
“We’re actively working down inventory,” Jill Timm, the company’s chief financial officer, said in an August earnings call. “We’ve been aggressive on clearance as well as promotions.”
Wide-ranging discounts could help ease some of the pain of inflation. Overall prices have risen 8.3 percent from a year ago, a notch down from the summer’s highs but still far higher than historic norms, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
There are already signs that prices are easing in some parts of the economy. Appliances, bedroom furniture, jewelry, TVs and smartphones were all cheaper in August than they were in July.
“Prices will get lower,” said Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist at Charles Schwab. “We’re already seeing it to some degree: disinflation, if not outright deflation, in some areas where companies just have to work down their inventories.”
Charlie Reid, owner of Charlie’s Computers & Emporium in Las Vegas, is marking down dozens of laptops by 30 percent or more. He has nearly triple the stock of refurbished PCs than he’d hoped for.
Sales were brisk for much of the pandemic, as people scooped up laptops for remote work and schooling needs. But as life has returned to normal, demand has dropped, he said.
“As far as basic laptops for basic needs — HPs, Dells — there just doesn’t seem to be much interest anymore,” he said. “Toward the beginning of the year, they just started to pile up in our backroom. People seemed to lose interest.”
Even marking down items has become a fraught calculation for retailers, after more than two years of wildly unpredictable manufacturing- and transportation-related swings. There is a sense that the supply chain is just one covid-related shutdown or geopolitical disaster away from another round of shortages and delays. Some retailers are hesitant to sell products at a discount now, only to have to replace them with higher-priced goods later.
“More so than in the past, retailers are holding onto inventory while they wait things out,” said Brian Ehrig, a partner at the consulting firm Kearney. “There is still real concern about geopolitical risks that are still out there, so companies are taking a more conservative approach and thinking hard about scenarios that could play out.”
In Abilene, Tex., executives at Andrews Furniture are canceling orders for sofas, beds and dressers now that shoppers are pulling back. The company has about 20 percent more inventory — mainly upholstered chairs and other living room furniture — in its warehouse than usual, according to Scott Andrews, an executive at the company.
“Early in the pandemic we saw where buying habits were going and tried to estimate off that, but now we have too much,” he said. “People are changing their habits. They’re going on vacation instead of buying another sofa. I’m constantly looking at our inventory levels, trying to figure out how to work through these extra items.”

German Expert Panel Proposes 2-Stage Gas Price Subsidy 69News WFMZ-TV
German Expert Panel Proposes 2-Stage Gas Price Subsidy – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/german-expert-panel-proposes-2-stage-gas-price-subsidy-69news-wfmz-tv/
BERLIN (AP) — A government-appointed expert panel on Monday proposed a two-stage system for distributing up to 200 billion euros ($195 billion) in subsidies Germany has announced to ease the strain of high gas prices, a plan that the group said would still encourage people to save energy.
The panel suggested that the state take on the cost of natural gas customers’ monthly bill in December, followed by a price subsidy for part of their consumption starting next spring.
That “gas and heating price brake” would kick in next March and apply until April 2024, panel co-chair Veronika Grimm said. Private gas customers would pay 0.12 euros per kilowatt hour for the first 80% of last year’s use.
That “corresponds roughly to the price level that is expected in the future,” Grimm said, telling reporters in Berlin that the plan aims to introduce a “new normal” but prevent price rises beyond that. “It’s not going to be the case that the price goes back down to 7 cents in the future — we won’t receive Russian gas for a long time.”
Grimm argued that the plan still incentivizes people to save gas, because people who do so will avoid paying higher prices beyond the cap level. She noted that Germany, which has Europe’s biggest economy, needs to reduce its previous gas consumption by about 20% to prevent a potential shortage this winter.
Co-chair Siegfried Russwurm, the head of the Federation of German Industries, said the proposal foresees businesses paying 0.07 euros per kilowatt hour for 70% of their 2021 gas use, starting at the beginning of January.
Russwurm said that gas price rises are posing an “existential” threat to an increasing number of companies.
“This is not just about the fate of individual companies and their jobs; it is about the strength and the export successes of German industry, because they are the backbone of the German economy,” he said.
The panel, which included representatives of industry and labor unions, scientists and lawmakers, earlier Monday presented its conclusions to Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the country’s economy and finance ministers.
Many European countries have proposed similar subsidies on fossil fuels, prices for which have increased sharply worldwide in the wake of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. But some of Germany’s neighbors have criticized the huge sum Berlin is setting aside, arguing that it will price others out of the market.
Scholz argues that the criticism is based on a misunderstanding of his government’s plans and says Germany’s subsidy will prevent a shortage of gas that might occur under a system of enforced price caps proposed by other countries. He also has noted that it applies to a relatively long period.
Russia started reducing gas supplies to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, the main supply route, in June and cut them off completely over a month ago. The pipeline has since been damaged by underwater explosions.
Germany got a bit over a third of its gas supplies from Russia before the disruptions started, and previously more than that.

National Food Day History:
When packaged foods and convenience foods began to grow in popularity during and after World War II, the number of people cooking meals at home from scratch seemed to hit a decline. This trend even intensified more when women started to work at jobs and thus this resulted in the skyrocketing of packaged and convenience food in the country. But with the convenience came the addition of non-natural preservatives, artificial trans-fats and a lack of clear labeling. Because of this, many scientists and nutritionists were concerned that families were finding themselves uninformed and unaware about the things that they were putting into their bodies.
As a result of this issue in the year of 1971, a microbiologist, a meteorologist, a chemist, and two scientists from Ralph Nader’s Center for the Study of Responsive Law founded the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). CSPI was formed as a non-profit organization that monitored food safety standards and advocated for safer foods as these people were very concerned about the health of families as they thought that huge producers companies and brands were taking advantage of the situation and were ignoring standard protocols.
In the early days of its working, CSPI focussed on environmental protection and renewable sources of energy. Later on, when two of the founders left the organization, it turned its focus to food and alcohol safety. Over the years, CSPI changed the dynamics of nutrition and food safety worldwide. It encouraged healthy foods in restaurants and made sure that the restaurants followed guidelines issued by the Food and Drug Administration of the country. CSPI played an important role in bringing many issues like it was the first one to bring the the matter of high amounts of saturated fats found in popcorn in cinemas. It was also the organization that led the campaigns against trans fats found in fast foods.
By 1975, the CSPI founded the National Food Day in an effort to get more people involved in learning to shop, eat and cook in a healthier and more natural manner. This day was created to raise awareness about nutrition and food safety, and also as a step towards eradicating hunger. Ensuring that antibiotics used on farm animals are regulated and accurate food labeling were also one of the goals of creating this day. Since then it has been celebrated annually.

National Food Day Significance:
National Food Day is all about making an effort to eat more whole, real foods, such as fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains and natural proteins. While it might take a bit of thinking ahead and creating some new habits, the potential for massive results is certainly worth a little bit of effort. So it urges people to develop a healthy diet in their life especially in the modern world when there are different viruses and diseases are discovering and spreading widely so in this case we definitely needs to boost up our immunity.
Unfortunately there are still millions of people around our world who are starving and are struggling very hard to complete their basic necessity of food. This day reminds us of the importance of food and to always be grateful for the food we have on our table. As sometimes people forgets about that how important food is for us to survive. This day also reminds us to donate to charity organizations that provide food to the underprivileged, if we are able to as food is a basic necessity which every human being deserves so we must do something to end the hunger from our world.
It is also estimated that millions of tonnes of food is wasted annually which is more than enough to feed every hungry people of our world. This thing tells us about that how unequal our world is as mostly the amount of food wasted annually comes from the developed countries only while on the other hand many poorer countries of our world lacks food resources severely. Hence this day aims to encourage people and authorities towards taking steps to reduce their food wastage as food is vital to our survival and it needed to treated with respect.
We often ignore the importance of eating healthy. Fast foods are replacing traditional home-cooked foods because fast food is easy to buy. Due to convenience, we forget the long-term effects that fast foods have on our health and body. So it is very essential to remind people about the importance of healthy food in our lives. Many events and workshops are also organized on this day that teach the public about sustainable farming practices and the importance of food safety.
National Food Day Celebrations:
What can be a more better way to celebrate National Food Day than eating healthy food yourself. Cut out the sugar and processed fast food and eat whole vegetables, fruits, and meat from your life atleast for this day and tey something really natural and organic food for the day. Often the traditional food of any culture is generally much healthier when compared to modern fast-foods so try to find some good traditional food for this day.
Many times, simply out of habit, people tend to do the same things over and over again. For those who are used to purchase only processed foods, it can feel a bit difficult to overcome that habit. However it 8s very easy to change your habit as all you need to do is to take a bit of time to stop and reconsider the way grocery lists are made and food is purchased. One of the best ways to level up that food shopping experience is to make a plan in advance, filled with healthier, natural and fresh foods.
Different events in honor of National Food Day are planned in local communities all across the country. Whether this means attending a lecture on how to stock a more natural kitchen at home, or joining in on a community event that is advocating for healthier school lunches. You can also use this opportunity to raise funds or donate for those organizations who are working to end the hunger from our world by providing food to the hungry.

Sporting News Pegs Boston Celtics’ Al Horford As NBA’s Ninth-Best Power Forward For 2022-23 – Celtics Wire https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/sporting-news-pegs-boston-celtics-al-horford-as-nbas-ninth-best-power-forward-for-2022-23-celtics-wire/
As we inch closer to the 2022-23 regular season, the annual exercise of ranking everything that isn’t nailed down continues in the NBA media as is the custom ahead of Opening Night, and starting Boston Celtics power forward Al Horford can’t escape the assessment of Sporting News’ Stephen Noh in his latest positional rankings for the 4 around the league.
But Horford might not want to anyway given Noh sees the Florida product as the ninth-best swingman in the Association, checking ahead of names on the come-up like Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors and Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Horford looked like he might be close to done a few years ago, but he revitalized his career at age 35 with the Celtics,” writes the S/N analyst. “He’s an extremely high-feel defender, and he guards stars like Antetokounmpo as well as anyone else in the league.”

“Horford has also become a good 3-point shooter in the back half of his career,” adds Noh. “He hit an absurd 48% of his 3-pointers in the 2022 NBA Playoffs and has canned 36% of his 3-point attempts for his career.”

Virtual land Grabs To See Metaverse Market Boom ITWeb
Virtual ‘land Grabs’ To See Metaverse Market Boom – ITWeb https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/virtual-land-grabs-to-see-metaverse-market-boom-itweb/
The global metaverse market is forecast to record a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39.8%, to reach $996 billion in 2030.
This, as companies across the globe, including those in non-tech sectors, increasingly invest in the immersive technology for better engagement with customers, brand awareness expansion and identification of new revenue streams.
This is according to research firm GlobalData’s latest metaverse market report. The metaverse, according to the report, encompasses nine critical technologies: networking equipment and cloud infrastructure; data governance and security; blockchain and crypto-currencies/non-fungible tokens; artificial intelligence/machine learning; augmented reality and virtual reality; adtech (internet advertising); gaming; enterprise applications; and payments platforms.
The report reveals that various market participants from the technology sector − including those in manufacturing semi-conductors, components and application software − are also leveraging this mega-theme of the metaverse. This led the metaverse market to reach $22.79 billion in 2021.
These developments and initiatives around the deployment of the metaverse are likely to fuel the market in the coming months, notes the report. Furthermore, big tech firms are championing the metaverse, with Microsoft and Meta promoting it as the ideal environment to support hybrid working.
“As of 2021, the media and entertainment market captured a sizeable revenue share of the metaverse market,” comments Deepak Agarwal, project manager at GlobalData. “The entertainment experience we have seen through the metaverse has been through music and concerts.”
There’s also a land grab for strong metaverse ecosystem partners and learnings in other sectors beyond entertainment, including retail, banking, telecoms and the insurance market, according to the report.
“Telcos are, by and large, keen to understand the lay of the land and invest in exploration with start-ups as potential partners. Mergers and acquisitions activity is picking up, with access to technology being the key rationale for most deals. Providers of AR, VR, AI and blockchain solutions are becoming prime targets as acquirers aim to develop novel experiences.”
The strong presence of big technology giants in the advanced economies of North America and the emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific region are fuelling the metaverse market growth. Together, the two regions held 50% of the metaverse market share in 2021, according to GlobalData’s estimates.
South Africa is dominating the African continent’s metaverse market, with local firms such as big-four bank Nedbank, MTN, World Data Lab and M&C Saatchi Abel all buying virtual land on Ubuntuland, a village on Africarare – Africa’s first metaverse marketplace.
The organisations say they are looking to develop and offer immersive services to their African customers via the platform.
In addition, an increase in the number of start-ups leveraging these technologies in both developed and emerging economies will eventually boost the metaverse, according to the report.
Agarwal concludes: “The metaverse is still largely conceptual but could transform how people work, shop, communicate and consume content.
“Although it is in the early stages of development, it has the potential to be the next mega-theme in digital media. Furthermore, the large-scale adoption of next-gen technologies, including AR and VR, will accentuate the adoption of the metaverse by most of the stakeholders involved.”

If you prefer using mini PCs for work, we absolutely understand where you’re coming from. Mini PCs are super easy to carry with you whenever you need to travel.
This is a PC that literally fits inside the palm of your hand, and it features an 11th Gen Intel Celeron N5095 processor, Intel UHD Graphics 605, a 256GB SSD, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM.
If you’re worried about the ports, well, this one has more than many laptops we’ve seen. More specifically, you can find a USB-C port, a USB 3.2 gen 2 Port, a headphone/mic combo jack, the power button on the front, and another set of ports on the rear (a USB-C port, HDMI, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, an Ethernet port, a Mini DisplayPort, and a DC power port). The PC also features an SD card slot. The GEEKOM MiniAir 11 also features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas.
So, if you want a PC that you can take anywhere with you, the MiniAir 11 is a great choice. You can check out our full review for the GEEKOM MiniAir 11 to learn more about it. Visit GEEKOM’s 19th anniversary page if you want to learn more about the company.
