F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2022 Live, Race Updates, Highlights From Suzuka – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/f1-japanese-grand-prix-2022-live-race-updates-highlights-from-suzuka-sporting-news/ Max Verstappen will start the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix from pole position as he looks to claim a second successive world championship title. It was a dominant qualifying performance from the Dutchman, with F1 returning to Japan and the Suzuka Circuit for the first time since 2019. Ferrari, however, will be out to spoil the party, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz starting from second and third on the grid. The Sporting News will keep you updated on all the race action via our live blog below. MORE: How can Verstappen be crowned F1 world champion at the Japanese Grand Prix? F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2022 live top 10 leaderboard Lap 3 (red flag) POSITION DRIVER 1 Max Verstappen 2 Charles Leclerc 3 Sergio Perez 4 Esteban Ocon 5 Lewis Hamilton 6 Fernando Alonso 7 George Russell 8 Daniel Ricciardo 9 Yuki Tsunoda 10 Mick Schumacher F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2022 live updates, highlights from the Suzuka Circuit 34 mins remaining: Alonso and Ricciardo pit for wet tires, putting Max Verstappen back in the lead of the race. 36 mins remaining: The majority of the field is pitting for intermediate tires, but Alonso, Ricciardo, Schumacher and Zhou are staying out on full wets. 39 mins remaining: A bit of a hairy incident involving Sebastian Vettel and Nicholas Latifi in the pits…  An unsafe release by Aston Martin was investigated by race control but no penalties have been handed out. RACE RESTART: The safety car has gone into the pits and we’re underway again!  There are 40 minutes remaining on the race timer, with the race to conclude as soon as the timer expires. — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 Rolling start: Take two. Cars have actually left pit lane this time, and are now following the safety car. A rolling start will get us underway shortly. 1 hour 15 min since restart suspension: More racing on the way! Race Control has announced that cars will be sent back out on track at 4:15 p.m. local time, approximately ten minutes from now. 1 hour since restart suspension: The safety car is out… We’re still yet to know if there will be any more racing today. 45 mins since restart suspension: With the race timer ticking down, there isn’t enough time remaining to run at least 75% of the race distance. That means Max Verstappen will need to wait another two weeks before he can be crowned world champion. 30 mins since restart suspension: Still no sign of cars returning to the track, but the crowd at Suzuka is still full. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to get underway again safely. — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 15 mins since restart suspension: There has been plenty of discussion about a controversy involving a recovery tractor that was on track following Carlos Sainz’s crash. The tractor was brought out before all drivers had passed it. Pierre Gasly was visibly angry once he returned to the garage after he had to avoid the tractor in low visibility conditions. The onboard video of Gasly passing the recovery vehicle is terrifying. Something needs to change. pic.twitter.com/ldwszWgG9K — ESPN F1 (@ESPNF1) October 9, 2022 Lando Norris has even taken to Twitter to criticise the incident.  Wtf. How’s this happened!? We lost a life in this situation years ago. We risk our lives, especially in conditions like this. We wanna race. But this… Unacceptable. — Lando Norris (@LandoNorris) October 9, 2022 10 mins since restart suspension: Rain is falling pretty heavily now, so a restart might be a little while away. RESTART SUSPENDED: Just as cars were warming up to re-enter the track, race control have opted to suspend the restart. It’s unclear why the decision was made, but it appears that more rain is on the way. 5 mins until restart: Max Verstappen will be in pole position from the restart, with Charles Leclerc and Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez behind him.  20 mins since red flag: The safety car has been out to test the track conditions and race control has now announced that the race will re-start in 15 minutes (2:50 p.m. local time / 1:50 a.m. ET).  A rolling start will be used to get us back underway with more than one lap behind the safety car. 10 mins since red flag: Fernando is keeping us entertained as we wait to find out when racing will resume. Peekaboo! #JapaneseGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/6f4DeI3CFc — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 RED FLAG: The race has been red-flagged on Lap 2 after a string of incidents, with the rain intensity also increasing.  Cars have made their way to pit lane. LIGHTS OUT: A chaotic opening lap and the safety car is out! It was difficult to see much of the action with the huge amount of spray, but Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc got into an exciting tussle for the lead. Leclerc appeared to have the advantage heading into the first turn but Verstappen managed to keep ahead. — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 In the middle of the pack, Sebastian Vettel collided with Fernando Alonso and sustained some damage. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz aquaplaned later in the lap, causing him to slam into a barrier which ends his race. — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 Alex Albon has also had his race ended, with his Williams car appearing to have an engine failure. Other impacted drivers on that lap include Guanyu Zhou (who spun on-track) and Pierre Gasly (who had an advertising board land on his front wing after Sainz’s crash).  5 mins to lights out: The formation lap is underway at a very drizzly and overcast Suzuka Circuit.  Most teams have opted for intermediate tires, and there is a lot of spray as the cars set off. Could be an eventful race… 15 mins to lights out: The drivers are on the grid and it’s now time for the singing of the Japanese national anthem. There is every indication that the race will begin as normal, with no rolling start. 30 mins to lights out: Home crowd favourite Yuki Tsunoda is the only Japanese driver on today’s grid.  He’ll start the race from 13th, whilst his Alpha Tauri teammate Pierre Gasly will begin from pit lane after his rear wing and front wing ballast were changed following qualifying.  40 mins to lights out: Rain continues to fall at the track and according to the local weather forecast, it isn’t set to stop any time soon.  It doesn’t appear too heavy, so here’s hoping we can avoid a delayed start like in Singapore last week.  Intermediates appear to be the tire of choice as the cars head out on track.  50 mins to lights out: Sebastian Vettel will race for the last time at Suzuka as an F1 driver today.  Exactly 11 years ago he secured the second of his four world championships on this very track. A good omen for Verstappen…? — Formula 1 (@F1) October 9, 2022 1 hour to lights out: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of the 2022 edition of the Japanese Grand Prix. Plenty of eyes will be on Max Verstappen as he looks to become a two-time world champion. There are several ways in which Red Bull’s Verstappen could claim his second successive world championship victory at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday. The most simple would be if he won the race and took the extra point for fastest lap along the way. That would see the Dutchman crowned world champion regardless of where his title rivals finish.  Verstappen could also be crowned champion if he finishes first, doesn’t record the fastest lap but Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishes lower than P2.  Equally, if either Leclerc or teammate Sergio Perez finish ahead of him, Verstappen cannot be crowned champion in Japan.  The other complicated permutations can be viewed here. Gitex Global 22: Cloud Computing And Metaverse Is Where UAEs Tech Spending Will Be Gulf News
Gitex Global 22: Cloud Computing And Metaverse Is Where UAEs Tech Spending Will Be Gulf News
Gitex Global ’22: Cloud Computing And Metaverse Is Where UAE’s Tech Spending Will Be – Gulf News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/gitex-global-22-cloud-computing-and-metaverse-is-where-uaes-tech-spending-will-be-gulf-news/ Dubai: Businesses in the UAE and the Gulf are still spending heavily on their technology needs this year, but you would need to look elsewhere to confirm it. In other words, check out what these businesses had going in the ‘cloud’. That’s right, cloud is where the tech spending was most visible, with storing and managing organisational data becoming the most pressing need for organisations. And keeping them safe too. This is also the reason why it seemed that IT spending by corporates was not happening at the same levels as in 2020-21, when the need for remote working forced businesses of all sizes to go in for immediate upgrades to support the transition. “Spending by corporates is on the rise, moving more to cloud-based opex (operating expenditure) rather than traditional capex (capital expenditure) models,” said Victoria Mendes, Research Manager for Data & Analytics (META) at the consultancy IDC. We do not expect a lag as there is a mere shift in the spend from traditional to cloud, and we expect the tech spend from corporates to be on par, if not surpass 2019 levels. – Victoria Mendes, IDC So, it means less of the heavy spending on servers and costly upgrades to their IT systems – unless they are absolutely necessary. The other category that keeps getting the sign-offs from businesses is cyber security. And tech industry sources say 2023 has all the makings for another solid year in spending. “In the UAE, government organisations are far out in front in making these investments and upgrades necessary for the ‘smart everything’,” said the general manager of an IT services company in Dubai. “The same can be said only for the biggest private companies here – there’s so much that needs to be done by others. “Unless there’s a major worldwide recession and its effects are felt by Gulf economies too, the spending on IT will not stop.” This is the backdrop then for the opening of the latest Gitex, now branded as ‘Gitex Global’, which will dwell deep on the fortunes of startups, fintechs, the Metaverse and, of course, the cloud among the key verticals. The 2022 edition starts Monday (October 10) and runs until Friday at Dubai World Trade Centre. Cloud action Global heavyweights such as Huawei, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Oracle have carved up enough space in the UAE’s transition towards the cloud. They have gone operational with cutting-edge data centres, while the G42- and e&- (formerly Etisalat) owned Khazna is the local powerhouse in this space. Check out these numbers on the cloud spend in the UAE, and it gives even more evidence of why IDC’s Victoria thinks this is where the IT spending spree will continue to be. According to IDC research, about 70 per cent of UAE enterprises are moving from the ‘discovery and piloting’ phase to ‘significant implementation of business apps in the cloud’. Public cloud spending in the UAE is expected to grow 31.6 per cent this year to $1.3 billion, while spending on private clouds continues to rise and ‘hybrid multi-clouds are increasingly the norm for organisations’. (Public cloud is where computing resources are owned and operated by the provider and web-shared with multiple tenants.) Digital transformations – and a chance for VCs On a parallel track, digital switchover projects will keep tech companies busy. “There will be a lot of focus on online payment services across categories, opening up more chances for fintechs to secure key contracts, funding,” said an industry source. That would be cue for more action from tech startups in the region. Walid Hanna is the founder and CEO of Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP), the VC firm based in Dubai. Hanna reckons these will be the key trends in the tech startup area: * Market penetration (of e-commerce, online payment, etc.) is still quite low compared to the Western markets (at 4x lower). * The online banking infrastructure is under-developed, especially in the Levant and North Africa, which also gives room for further digitization down the line. * Presence of a high under-banked population with low options for credits. * There is still room for clearer regulation, especially in the fintech space. The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the pioneers in the region. * Exit options are increasing either from a M&A perspective or listing on stock markets, which was unimaginable three years ago. MEVP has had several successful exits, out of which seven were in 2021 alone, including (Abu Dhabi headquartered music portal) Anghami. – Walid Hanna, MEVP “We closed a partial exit from Fresha, an online marketplace and SaaS (Service as a Software) management platform for spas and salons, yielding a 52x cash on cash return. The company started in the UAE, serving primarily the US markets. It subsequently expanded globally and moved its HQ to the UK.” And then there’s Metaverse Dubai’s digital transformation blueprint has set heavy emphasis on the Metaverse. The first set of Dubai entities, such as Dubai Airport Free Zone, have already come out with what their presence will be in parallel universe built around AR. And Dubai entities’ presence on the Metaverse will be based on real-world problem solving and more. This is how Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said it just the other day: “We are exploring the usage of the Metaverse across our services, including simulations of warehousing and terminal operations, container and vessel repair inspections, safety training, and other commercial uses. Our customers will now be able to see and understand the whole supply chain from end-to-end – with full visibility – and take corrective actions in case of logistics bottlenecks. By using this technology, we hope to keep trade flowing, increase visibility and minimise disruption to build trade networks fit for the future. – Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World The cloud and the Metaverse – in IT, that’s where the spending will be…

New Industry PAC To Back Pro-Crypto Candidates Washington Examiner
New Industry PAC To Back Pro-Crypto Candidates – Washington Examiner https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/new-industry-pac-to-back-pro-crypto-candidates-washington-examiner/ October 09, 2022 03:00 AM A cryptocurrency industry group has formed a new political action committee at the end of the 2022 midterm election cycle with the hope of helping to form the next Congress’s view on the new industry. The Blockchain Association, a group that represents more than 100 organizations in the industry, formed its PAC in September 2022 with the hope of influencing and, in future election cycles, funding candidates interested in the cryptocurrency industry. REPUBLICAN ALLAN FUNG LEADS DEMOCRAT IN DEEP-BLUE RHODE ISLAND DISTRICT: POLL “If you are interested in having a conversation about crypto, we want to talk to you,” Executive Director Kristin Smith told the Washington Examiner. Smith worked as an aide on Capitol Hill for 10 years, with a focus on technology policy. She founded the association by herself in 2018 and has quickly expanded it to represent an assortment of entities within the industry, including Circle, Ledger, Ripple, and several others. The Blockchain Association PAC’s formation just last month means it won’t have any significant financial impact on the 2022 midterm elections, but it follows a massive surge in crypto lobbying and election funding. Super PACs with ties to the cryptocurrency industry have invested tens of millions into the 2022 races. Crypto-adjacent PACs invested more than $31 million into the 2022 primaries as of July, according to Federal Election Commission disclosures reviewed by Roll Call. At least two PACs are founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of the crypto exchange FTX. Crypto lobbying has also been on the rise. The industry spent at least $6.8 million lobbying Congress in the second quarter of 2022, according to Roll Call. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER The 2022 surge in crypto-funded lobbying and PACs was inspired by several debates in 2021 around President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure bill and crypto-related provisions, according to Smith. Biden had proposed new crypto reporting requirements that would cause a large change for anyone involved in digital wallet development or crypto miners. “What we saw last year with the infrastructure fight last summer is that people … woke up to the fact that, ‘Oh, wow, there’s people are talking about crypto on the floor of the United States Senate. I need to figure out how to be a part of that process,'” Smith said. When asked what races they were keeping an eye on, Smith mentioned the Senate campaigns of Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) — both, she said, have supported “good regulatory solutions for crypto.”

Wales Win Thriller Over Scotland At Women’s Rugby World Cup – The Washington Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/wales-win-thriller-over-scotland-at-womens-rugby-world-cup-the-washington-post/ Italy defeated the United States 22-10 to open play Sunday on the second day of the Women’s Rugby World Cup at Whangarei, New Zealand. Canada beat Japan 41-5 and Wales edged Scotland 18-15, also at Whangarei. Top-seeded and favorite England laid down a clear marker in its opening match on Saturday when it scored 14 tries in beating Fiji 84-19. England left no doubt in the minds of any of its opponents that it will take an extraordinary team and performance to prevent them winning the world title for the third time. The three top-seeded teams in the 12-team tournament played on opening day in front of a world-record crowd for women’s rugby at Auckland’s Eden Park stadium. France and New Zealand also won their opening games but not with the authority displayed by England. New Zealand had to come from 17-0 down to beat Australia 41-17 and France overcame a scoreless period of almost 50 minutes on either side of halftime to beat South Africa 40-5. ___ Italy 22, United States 10 The Group B match between Italy and the United States always seemed likely to be one of the closest in the group rounds. Italy is fifth and the United States sixth on the world ranking list. The United States might have been nominal favorites for their World Cup record. They won the inaugural Cup in 1991 and placed fourth at the last tournament in Ireland in 2017. Several U.S. players took a knee during the national anthem in a protest against racism. Italy came into the match on a high after beating third-ranked France last month. The United States had recent wins over Australia and Scotland but sustained a heavy loss to England. The United States scored the opening try after only four minutes through Hallie Taufoou who crashed through tackles near the goal line after a pick and go attack. The 5-0 lead held until the last moments before halftime when Italy equalized through Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi, showing off its ability to keep the ball in hand in lengthy backline attacks. The conversion gave Italy a 7-5 break at halftime. Italy stretched its lead to 12-5 with a try to Aura Muzzo who was at the end of the line when Italy stretched the United States defense. The U.S. rallied strongly and had a chance to level the scores with a try to Jenny Kronish after 57 minutes but the conversion missed. Italy then made the game safe with Muzzo’s second try and another to Maria Magatti 10 minutes from the end. Canada 41, Japan 5 England-based hooker Emily Tuttosi scored three tries as Canada showed it will have to be considered among title contenders with a win over Japan by seven tries to one. Canada is ranked fourth in the world and has come into this tournament in strong form after recent wins over Australia, the United States, Fiji, Italy and Wales. Its only loss in its past six games was to New Zealand. Big and physical with a rugged approach to defense, Canada also has powerful ball handlers among both its tight and loose forwards. It used its size and strength on Sunday to eventually overpower Japan, scoring five tries before halftime. Canada made all the running in the match, scoring the opening try through winger Paige Farries after only two minutes. Japan leveled the scores at 5-5 with a try in the sixth minute to Maki Takano. From then on, Canada exerted almost total control with a perfect record at set pieces. Tuttosi scored her first try from a lineout drive in the 14th minute and her second from a more powerful drive in the 29th minute. Wales 18, Scotland 15 Keira Bevin kicked a penalty five minutes after the fulltime siren to give Wales a narrow win over Scotland in the most thrilling match of the World Cup so far. Megan Gaffney had scored the second of her two second-half tries in the 78th minute to draw Scotland level with Wales at 15-15 after they had trailed 15-5 at halftime. But a Scotland error gave Bevin the last say in the match with a kick from close range and she nailed the penalty deep in extra time to spark a delirious celebration from her teammates. Scotland was left to reflect on an opportunity that just got away. They haven’t won against Wales in a Six Nations match since 2017, though all of their matches have been close. Wales won this year’s contest 24-19. “It’s heartbreak,” Scotland forward Rachel Malcolm said after the final whistle. “We got ourselves back into the game but not taking the points when we had them was critical.” Wales almost paid for indiscipline, having two players sin-binned in the second half but were saved by Bevin’s late kick. “It was pretty stressful,” Bevin said. “I backed myself to kick it. I’ve been kicking for a few months now and I backed myself. It’s a bit of redemption..” ___ More AP rugby: https://apnews.com/hub/rugby and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

A Recession Could Be Good For You Roanoke Times
A Recession Could Be Good For You – Roanoke Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/a-recession-could-be-good-for-you-roanoke-times/ In his first inaugural address, in March 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt said: “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” It was the Great Depression. The unemployment rate was over 25%. An estimated 12 million people were out of work, about one-fourth of the civilian labor force. “More than 11,000 of 24,000 banks had failed, destroying the savings of depositors,” according to the National Archives. Fast-forward to now, and as bad as things are — rising interest rates, high inflation, stock market tumbling — the economy hasn’t imploded as it did during the Great Depression. I have to say this because, as Roosevelt pointed out, fear itself can lead to actions that worsen your finances. While many people are hurting, there may be ways to cushion the downside. Here are seven silver linings if we are heading into a recession: 1. Housing prices may finally come down to reasonable levels. The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage jumped to 6.7 percent this week, according to data released by Freddie Mac. Higher mortgage rates may result in sellers in many markets lowering their asking prices so that buyers can qualify for the loans. With cheaper loans gone, there will be fewer bidding wars to drive up home prices. 2. Savings rates are up. At least one bright side of the Federal Reserve raising rates to fight inflation is banks are paying people more to hold their money. My credit union has a special 20-month offer on a certificate that would pay me a 3% annual percentage yield. “Many prospective savers may not have yet noticed that yields have been on the rise,” said Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst and Washington bureau chief for Bankrate. Be sure to shop around, Hamrick said. “Why leave money on the proverbial table when you can have it in your account?” he said. “The key is making it a priority to have access to funds when and if an urgent development occurs.” By the way, no, you shouldn’t stop contributing to your retirement plan. Historically, over time, the market recovers. If you bail now, you will miss the recovery. 3. The I-bond inflation rate might go even higher. The Series I Savings Bond was created as a hedge against inflation. Until the end of October, the bonds are paying 9.62%. There are two components to the return for an I bond — a fixed rate and the inflation rate. The fixed rate, which right now is 0%, applies for the 30-year life of the bond. The fixed rate of newly purchased bonds and the semiannual inflation rate are announced by the Treasury Department each May and November. If inflation stays high, I bonds could be paying more come November. To buy an electronic I bond, you must set up an account through TreasuryDirect, at treasurydirect.gov. Individuals can purchase up to $10,000 in electronic I bonds in a calendar year. 4. The dollar is king. Although a lot is in flux, if you have plans to travel overseas, your dollar may go a lot further. This week, the British pound fell to an all-time low against the dollar. 5. Unemployment is still relatively low. People with jobs and money to spare can spend on luxuries such as a vacation. Despite higher prices and rising interest rates, millions of Americans have been taking leisure trips. More than half of Americans plan to travel for one or both of the holidays this year, even though airfares will be 43% higher than last year, according to Hopper, a travel booking app. However, the unemployment rate did rise to 3.7%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So, if you’re worried about your job security or a recession, cancel any vacation plans you might have over the holidays or even for summer 2023. 6. Your used car is worth more. If you’re looking to upgrade to a newer car and your car is in fairly good condition, you’ll get more for your trade-in. Used-car and truck prices jumped 7.8%, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Unfortunately, new-car prices were up 10% from a year ago. 7. Student loan forgiveness is coming. Roosevelt used his executive power to wage war against the economic emergency gripping the United States. President Biden is doing something similar by forgiving student loan debt to help struggling borrowers. Biden announced a one-time forgiveness program that will wipe out up to $10,000 in federal student loan debt and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients for individuals who earn $125,000 or less per year or less than $250,000 for married couples. The Biden administration also announced last year a time-limited waiver to help forgive more debt under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Act fast to sign up for the waiver. The deadline is Oct. 31. Of course, times are tough — and for some people, much more than others. But remember that fear will not help you make wise financial decisions. Healthy Cities Status Shows Qatars Efforts To Improve Living Standards The Peninsula
‘Healthy Cities’ Status Shows Qatar’s Efforts To Improve Living Standards – The Peninsula https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/healthy-cities-status-shows-qatars-efforts-to-improve-living-standards-the-peninsula/ Doha: All municipalities of Qatar recently received the title of ‘Healthy Cities’ by World Health Organization (WHO). The achievement came as a result of efforts made by the Ministry of Municipality in coordination with municipalities and other authorities concerned to improve the quality of life of people in the country. The Healthy Cities initiative of WHO was conceived with the goal of placing health high on the social and political agenda of cities by promoting health, equity and sustainable development through innovation and multisectoral change. “These efforts contributed to the achievement of this accreditation by Qatari cities. Most notable of these efforts is the implementation of a comprehensive urban development plan for Qatar and the effective and directed investment in infrastructure projects in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030, the National Development Strategy, and the Sustainable Strategy of the Ministry of Municipality,” said Assistant Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Mansour Abdullah Zaid Al Mahmoud. He said Qatari cities are characterised by the presence of multiple and interconnected utility networks, with large green spaces, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and various means of welfare for the population, which had a significant impact on improving the health of community members, both physically and psychologically. He said the Ministry has worked hard within the framework of its strategic plan to raise the standard of services and health and environmental conditions, in addition to activating the partnership with various community institutions, through awareness programmes, activities, and health and environmental projects to build sustainable habits.

What Channel Is 49ers Vs. Panthers On Today? Time, TV Schedule For NFL Week 5 Game – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-channel-is-49ers-vs-panthers-on-today-time-tv-schedule-for-nfl-week-5-game-sporting-news/ Fresh off of an impressive prime-time win over the Rams on Monday night, the 49ers head across the country to take on a Panthers team that has struggled out of the gate during the 2022 NFL season. Defense has been the calling card for San Francisco, which spells doom for Carolina. After limiting the Rams to just nine points on Monday, the Niners’ stingy defense is allowing league lows in points allowed per game (11.5), yards per carry (2.87), yards per play (3.81) and is tied with the Bills for first in fewest yards allowed per game (234.5).  On the opposite end of the spectrum are the Panthers, who rank last in yards per game (262.3) and last in first downs (56) through their first four games. This season, Carolina’s talented defense has done its part in the beginning stages of games, but the sputtering offense’s inability to stay on the field for sustained drives has resulted in the defense wearing down and eventually breaking down as games progress. Tensions are high in Carolina, as boo-birds rang out during the Panthers’ 26-16 loss to the Cardinals in which Baker Mayfield threw two interceptions and Arizona’s time of possession (38:35) nearly doubled that of Carolina’s (21:25). All eyes are on Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who is now 1-3 on the season and 11-26 overall, including a staggering 1-26 record when the team allows 17 or more points. Sublime Object Of Ideology: Korean Beauty Standards And Metaverse 코리아타임스
Sublime Object Of Ideology: Korean Beauty Standards And Metaverse 코리아타임스
Sublime Object Of Ideology: Korean Beauty Standards And Metaverse – 코리아타임스 https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/sublime-object-of-ideology-korean-beauty-standards-and-metaverse-%ec%bd%94%eb%a6%ac%ec%95%84%ed%83%80%ec%9e%84%ec%8a%a4/ Courtesy of Liane By David Tizzard Note: The following piece was part of a video essay created with Michelle Ju Sihyun. For the full interactive experience, watch it here on YouTube. South Korean people are attractive. Especially the ones you see in the dramas, the music videos, the movies, and social media. Beauty here is off the charts. But such sky high beauty standards are not just expected from the country’s rich and famous. Nor are they only applied to women. Whether going to work, attending university, or just trying to live, Korean people young and old feel the pressure of having to look good. A certain type of good. There are standards as to what constitutes being beautiful in Korean society. These standards are not created by individuals, but instead by the community. And they are seen as a strength: a mark of personal development. Yet the expectations and pressure on ordinary Korean citizens have been very hard to live up to. Now something new has emerged. Something more than human. Something challenging the very fabric of reality. Something that might change the conversation about beauty in Korea…forever. Beauty and Lookism The Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky said that beauty will save the world. Here in Korea, many feel like beauty is doing the opposite. It’s strangling them. But what is beauty? And just how do societies like South Korea determine what is or isn’t beautiful? Standards of physical attractiveness differ by country, era, and culture. This points to beauty being, in part at least, socially constructed. Phenomenology tells us that there is a dialogue at play: our identities are formed by us perceiving how other people view us. Consciously and subconsciously we are affected by the people around us. We are reacting to others as we construct ourselves. That’s why social media now plays a very important role in our perception of beauty. The more time we spend online looking at other people, particularly beautiful ones with features and skin enhanced by the latest filters, the more we think about our own appearance. So despite all the talk of communication and connectivity, the internet isn’t just us experiencing other people. The internet leads us straight back to us. To ourselves. But why does beauty matter? Research tells us that a person’s physical attractiveness is positively associated with their quality of social experiences. The prettier you are, the more advantages you will have in life. But what about if you are not pretty? The less beautiful you are, the more likely you are to face discrimination. And studies have shown that when people face discrimination based on their appearance, it can have strong negative effects on their mental health. It can even lead to suicide. Something modern South Korea sadly knows far too much about. Discrimination based on beauty is common almost everywhere. While some of us might have been raised being told not to judge a book by its cover, in South Korea the opposite is often true. In this hyper-competitive society driven by the experience of a compressed post-colonial modernity, it has taken on an even more serious role. People are frequently reminded that first impressions matter ― including their face, clothes, and hair. A person’s external image carries huge importance. Like age, gender, and wealth, in South Korea, beauty can determine your life, your career, and your success. This focus on aesthetic experience as a way of securing social and cultural capital in South Korea is called “Lookism.” For some, lookism and a focus on beauty is a positive thing. It is a method of improving and bettering oneself, with its origins in the traditional Confucian ideas of self-cultivation. Gwansang is a traditional Korean concept which believes you can see someone’s fortune in their face. The outward appearance is everything and reveals our destiny. There are even stories of the biggest Korean companies having people specializing in such skills present during interviews ― determining through the face alone whether a person will bring success to the firm. To others, lookism is a far more modern issue, driven by economic pressures, the labour market, and the weight of the entertainment industry. Plastic surgery, seen this way, is a sign of strength in South Korea, not of weakness. It’s a way to present the best side of yourself. To make a great first impression. And to show that you care about the public gaze. In this way, beauty has become a surrogate for qualifications or experience. Instead of paying for training, citizens can instead invest in cosmetics or plastic surgery to help them better fit in and advance up the social ladder. They do this not by being themselves, but rather meeting the standards of beauty society expects of them. Thus, the uniform standards of appearance are maintained. Big eyes, pale skin, a small face, and a slender body. Reinforced through the media and then exaggerated to sometimes impossible levels by filters. Society demands you be hot…or at least try. And that trying is really important. In South Korea, for many people, looking good is a duty. Not a choice. It’s part of the social contract. And some people are much better at navigating this world than others. Virtual Influencers: Lucy is one of the many new virtual influencers, celebrities, and K-pop stars you can now find in the country. She works for Lotte Home Shopping. She’s huge on social media. She has a hundred thousand people following her. She’s all over the latest trends. But she’s not real. Not like you and me anyway. But what makes something real? These virtual influencers like Lucy have Wikipedia pages, verified Instagram accounts, and they appear in commercials. They make songs and hold concerts. And what can be realer than achieving the dream of working for South Korea’s most powerful companies? Lucy and these other virtual influencers are citizens of the metaverse. But some of you might be asking, what is the metaverse? The answer to that is both very easy, and very difficult. The metaverse forces us to question where we draw the line of what is and isn’t real, blurring the line between fiction and reality. The basic idea is that our current 2D internet experience becomes 3D. So instead of just looking at a flat computer or phone screen, we actually become part of the screen in front of us. We enter the computer. Abandoning our physical reality for a digital one. Becoming virtual pioneers and inhabitants of a new world. Rather than the speculative science fiction of The Matrix or Black Mirror, the metaverse is seen as part of our natural evolution as humans. Just like we went from living in the water, to trees, then caves, villages, towns, cities, and finally that super cramped but Netflix-having apartment all of your own, the metaverse is the next step. We once believed that whatever intelligence computers had, they never had the faculty of consciousness. They might have raw power, but they would never master things which we held to contain the essence of humanity, such as chess or music. These beliefs have since been dramatically shattered. So while there is certainly skepticism about the applications of the metavese, we would do well to remember that computers have continually surpassed everything we once thought they were capable and not capable of. The metaverse could well be the future of information, entertainment, education, and business. A revolutionary movement forward in becoming new humans. The birth of Homo Deus. Metaverse in Korea In the classrooms, students at Korean universities have begun attending orientation sessions in the metaverse. Here, alongside the pressure of starting a new chapter of their lives, young people have been carefully selecting their hair styles, faces, and eyes hoping to create a positive first virtual impression and impress their classmates in the digital world. And while previously we tried to get close to the rich and famous through backstage exclusives, gossip magazines, and celebrity tours, through the metaverse, South Korean production companies have found a far more immersive way to provide such sensations. They have recreated K-drama sets in virtual showrooms. Allowing viewers to digitally inhabit these worlds and become characters in their favourite shows. Experiencing for themselves the whirlwind that is the K-drama life. The music industry is not being left behind. We have already seen K-pop groups debut with virtual members alongside their real counterparts. And following the popular reality program ‘Produce 101’, similar competitions have been held online with popular female virtual influencers. These digital women held fan meetings, completed personality tests, and even uploaded compilations of their cutest sneezes for their devoted fans. But what exactly are these new idols? Are they the next Blackpink or BTS ready to take the world by storm? Or simply soulless dancing shadows, the products of their creators? A Search for Stability Our current world has abandoned trust and stability. We now live in a post-truth era, characterized by constant change and liquid modernity. Strangely, our desire to create a secular environment based only on facts and rationality has meant none of these seem to exist anymore. But as humans, we are always searching for our place in the world. Whether physically or psychologically. And so, despite not being real, virtual influencers like Lucy and digital worlds like the metaverse give us a very ironic sense of security amidst all the other changes we’re experiencing. They’re code. Secure. Rigid. And Pure. Trustworthy combinations of 1s and 2s that make us feel warm and safe. And that’s because the...

HEX Token Sees Over 37000% Growth But Is It A Scam? BeInCrypto
HEX Token Sees Over 37000% Growth But Is It A Scam? BeInCrypto
HEX Token Sees Over 37,000% Growth, But Is It A Scam? – BeInCrypto https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hex-token-sees-over-37000-growth-but-is-it-a-scam-beincrypto/ The 2-year-old cryptocurrency project gives 38% staking rewards. Is the project legitimate or a scam?  The HEX token is based on the Ethereum blockchain. Their website says they are the first blockchain certificate of deposit. Those who stake HEX tokens are given an average of 38% returns. The figure is lucrative because most US banks do not provide more than 2% annual interest. Who is the founder? The HEX was founded by Richard Schueler, who adopted the stage name Richard Heart. One of the steps to fundamentally analyze any project in Web3 is to check out the history of its founder. Source: WantFi.com Richard’s mail archive shows that he used to run a course on How to Spam people. In fact, he was charged with invoking Washington State’s anti-spam law. His Twitter bio reads that he owns the most expensive Rolex, the world’s fastest Ferrari, and some more boasting about his lifestyle. He has flexed his wealth on multiple occasions on social media. When he was asked why he flexes his wealth, he replied that it was for views and engagement.  The aggressive marketing by HEX focused on price gains. Twitter’s name of the official account reads the gain in price and high staking rewards. There aren’t many genuine projects that focus on price gains as much as HEX does. Generally, projects care about building the best services for their community. Their social media handles do not market how much the token’s price increased, let alone shout it through their handle’s name. They also started a campaign #HEXBoughtThis on social media, where shillers or early investors flex their wealth bought from HEX gains. It is one of the most aggressively marketed crypto projects. The project has been advertised in newspapers, magazines, billboards, and airports. All these campaigns focus on showing how much the token’s price has risen. The approach is the same as any get-rich-quick scheme, to cater to common people’s greed. A Twitter user posted that HEX used customer records from the Ledger hack and sent marketing material by mail to addresses obtained from there. How many Web3 projects do the marketing at par with HEX?  The website claims that investors will make “life-changing wealth.” Genuine projects with strong products do not primarily focus on the increase in their market price for marketing purposes. Bitcoin and Ethereum’s website does not discuss price fluctuations or creating “life-changing wealth” because they serve a purpose. Investors gaining money is a by-product of the greater purpose these projects serve.  The HEX buyers are incentivized to lock up their capital for a certain period. There is a heavy penalty if someone unlocks them before the lock-in period ends. This effectively reduces the supply of the tokens in the market, and demand is brought in through FOMO with the aggressive marketing campaign. The staking rewards. The website, as of writing, shows staking rewards of 38%. Who gets the staking reward? In the proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, the validators deposit a certain amount to the smart contract as collateral to keep the blockchain secure. They are rewarded for their up-time and are slashed for remaining inactive for a long time.  While there is no such thing with HEX, the stakers do not stake their HEX to secure the blockchain or validate the transactions. The only purpose of staking HEX is to reduce the supply, which puts upwards pressure on HEX’s price. The argument on whether HEX is a scam or not is quite a hot topic of debate amongst the Twitter community. Along with critics, the project has attracted hardcore supporters. Notable industry leaders believe that HEX is a scam going to zero.  HEX made an all-time high in September 2021 at 0.51. It is down by around 94% from all-time highs. Most scam projects in crypto do not survive the test of bear markets. Will HEX survive the current bear market, or will it go to zero? Perhaps, only time can answer this. Can Newhouse Hold On To Washingtons Most Conservative District After Trump Impeachment Vote? Centralia Chronicle
Can Newhouse Hold On To Washingtons Most Conservative District After Trump Impeachment Vote? Centralia Chronicle
Can Newhouse Hold On To Washington’s Most Conservative District After Trump Impeachment Vote? – Centralia Chronicle https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/can-newhouse-hold-on-to-washingtons-most-conservative-district-after-trump-impeachment-vote-centralia-chronicle-2/ Orion Donovan-Smith / The Spokesman-Review WASHINGTON — In his nearly eight years representing central Washington in the House, Dan Newhouse has fended off challengers from across the political spectrum and carved out a niche as a pragmatic lawmaker more interested in policy than bluster. But this year’s general election presents the Republican from Sunnyside with a new kind of challenge: convincing voters in the state’s reddest district to look past his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump and give him the support they largely withheld in the August primary. Newhouse and his Democratic opponent, Yakima businessman Doug White, each received roughly 25% of votes in the primary, enough to advance from the top-two contest only because six other GOP candidates who aligned themselves with Trump split the remaining half of votes. What that pro-Trump voting bloc does in the general election will play a big role in determining the outcome. “It’s the most conservative district in the state of Washington,” Newhouse said in an interview, “so my strategy and my message has been to appeal to those people that have supported me in the past and to remind them that I’m still the same conservative Republican that I’ve always been.” The Cook Political Report rates Washington’s 4th Congressional District “R+11,” meaning Republican candidates are expected to perform 11 percentage points better than the national average and making it the most heavily GOP-leaning district in the state. Newhouse bested Democratic challengers in 2018 and 2020 by a roughly 2-to-1 margin while his closest races came in 2014 and 2016 against fellow Republican Clint Didier, now a Franklin County commissioner. But White, a first-time candidate who returned home to Yakima after a 20-year career in international business, thinks right-wing voters’ lingering resentment toward Newhouse makes the incumbent vulnerable. Pitching himself as a solutions-oriented moderate, White said in an interview he hopes to assemble a coalition of reliable Democratic voters, independents and conservatives who want to see Newhouse gone. “Obviously, it’s an uphill battle,” White said, before citing a recent internal poll his campaign commissioned that makes him optimistic. The survey’s most important finding, he said, is that 40% of Republicans in the district “would vote for a Democrat if that Democrat had the profile that I do.” “This is a completely different game,” White said. “We’ve literally never seen this in this district before. My message is resonating well with people. They’re fed up with Dan Newhouse and we’re going to see a change.” A spokesman for the White campaign, John Wyble, declined to share the full poll results but said it shows that Newhouse is “a divisive figure,” even among Republicans, and  the race narrows to within the margin of error “after voters hear about Doug White.” There has been no independent polling this year in the district, which national political analysts consider safely in GOP hands. But White isn’t the only one who thinks the pro-Trump electorate could throw a wrench in Newhouse’s re-election bid. “I’ve heard a lot of people say that they’re going to vote for White because they cannot get over what Newhouse did, and I’ve heard a lot of people say they’re not going to vote at all,” said Teagan Levine, chair of the Okanogan County GOP. Levine said  when she has told those voters to “take Newhouse’s name out of it” and “look at the bigger picture,” they have usually agreed to vote for the Republican, but she is concerned that not every disaffected voter in the district will get that message before casting their ballots. If GOP voters can’t get over Newhouse’s impeachment vote, Levine said, she worries they will jeopardize the party’s chances of taking control of the House — and in turn the odds of a Republican winning the presidency in 2024. None of the Republicans Newhouse bested in the primary have formally endorsed the incumbent although some said they plan to vote for him. “Newhouse is in trouble, for sure, just talking to people,” said Jerrod Sessler, a former NASCAR driver from Prosser who took 12.3% of votes in the primary, adding that he has encouraged others to vote for Newhouse. “There’s a lot of people voting for Doug White, or they’re going to abstain.” Jacek Kobiesa, an engineer from Pasco who entered the race late and received just 490 votes, called the race “a huge mess” but said he would vote for Newhouse. Corey Gibson, a marketing entrepreneur from Selah who won 3.4% of votes, said he has received “so many calls” from conservatives who say they are considering voting for White, “not because they align with him, but because there’s this energy out there of wanting to be heard, wanting to be able to show that people want something different.” Gibson said he expects Newhouse to win the general election, but said he worries having such a “wildly unpopular” candidate could depress voter turnout in the district and hurt other Republicans, like Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley. Loren Culp, a former Republic police chief who won Trump’s endorsement and 21.6% of votes in the primary, said he doesn’t plan to vote for either Newhouse or White. “They’re both Democrats,” Culp said. “One of them just lies to us and tells us he’s a Republican.” With the 50% of primary voters who backed neither Newhouse nor White theoretically up for grabs, there is a potential opening for a write-in candidate to enter the race. State law prevents a losing primary candidate from running a write-in campaign for the same office, but some voters have encouraged Didier, the Franklin County commissioner who ran for the seat in 2014 and 2016, to mount a write-in campaign. In a text message, Didier confirmed he has had “an incredible amount of people want me to run as a write in,” but said he had no plans to do so. Mike Massey, chair of the Benton County GOP, said he estimates as many as one-third of conservatives “can’t put the clothes pin over their nose” and vote for Newhouse. “I’m going to vote for Dan because I have learned in the past that if you don’t support your party, it can really damage things,” Massey said, recalling how he voted in the 1992 presidential race for independent Ross Perot, whose candidacy helped Democrat Bill Clinton defeat Republican George H.W. Bush. Mike McKee, chair of the Grant County GOP, said he expects Newhouse to prevail but also worries many Republicans will not vote for him. “I just tell them, ‘Dan may not have been your first, second, third or fourth selection, but he’s won fair and square and now it’s time to fire (House speaker Nancy) Pelosi,'” McKee said, adding with a chuckle, “I can guarantee that Dan Newhouse is not going to vote to impeach another Republican president in the next two years.” The Washington State Republican Party didn’t endorse a candidate ahead of the August primary, but officially “nominated” him as the party’s candidate after he won the primary, party spokesman Ben Gonzalez said. For his part, Newhouse is counting on most of the district’s Republican-leaning voters forgiving him for the impeachment vote. In an interview, he alluded to a quote attributed to conservative icon Ronald Reagan, who reportedly said, “The person who agrees with you 80% of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20% traitor.” In that spirit, Newhouse said, he hopes his conservative constituents who have supported him in the past will see the race against White as a clear choice between Republican and Democratic platforms. “I think if they sit down and think about that, even though they’re angry with me for one vote, that’s still better than the other choice that they have in front of them,” he said. “So we’re doing the best that we can to communicate that message.” When a new Congress is sworn in at the start of 2023, Newhouse may be the only remaining member of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. The only other pro-impeachment Republican who survived the primaries, Rep. David Valadao of California, is in a tight race the Cook Political Report rates as a toss-up. He will also be among a dwindling number of House Republicans who are interested in working with Democrats on bipartisan legislation as the GOP conference is increasingly dominated by hardline members who say their top priority in the next two years is investigating and even impeaching members of the Biden administration. Newhouse, a third-generation Yakima Valley farmer, is one of the leading advocates for bipartisan immigration reform to create a reliable, legal supply of U.S. agricultural workers, about half of whom are unauthorized immigrants, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That effort has drawn the ire of anti-immigration hardliners, but Newhouse said he believes 4th District voters want solutions to problems that affect the region. “The fact that I’m pragmatic, solutions-oriented, willing to work with people on both sides of the aisle in order to find those solutions, I don’t see that as a negative,” he said. “I think that’s what people expect of me.” As chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, a group of House Republicans focused on rural issues and limited government, Newhouse said he tries to cultivate an interest in conservative policy — rather than political grandstanding — among  fellow GOP lawmakers. “Certainly you have those that want to just get headlines or become famous on social media and those kinds of things,” he said, “but there actually are a good number of members of Congress that want to get things done for their constituents as well, and my ...

Researchers Develop New 3d Technique To Revolutionise Diabetes Treatment Business Standard
Researchers Develop New 3d Technique To Revolutionise Diabetes Treatment – Business Standard https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/researchers-develop-new-3d-technique-to-revolutionise-diabetes-treatment-business-standard/ A new bandage treatment, known as a scaffold, to treat diabetic foot ulcers, which is cost-effective while improving patient outcomes, has been designed by researchers at Queen’s University Belfast. Produced by 3D bioprinting, the scaffolds slowly release antibiotics over a four-week period to effectively treat the wound. The study was published in the journal Drug Delivery and Translational Research. Diabetes, a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high, is among the top ten causes of deaths worldwide. Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), is a serious complication of diabetes, affecting approximately 25% of diabetic patients. When identified, over 50 per cent are already infected and over 70 per cent of cases result in lower limb amputation. The treatment strategy required for the effective healing of DFU is a complex process that requires several combined therapeutic approaches. As a result, there is a significant clinical and economic burden associated with treating DFU. These treatments are often unsuccessful, which leads to lower-limb amputation. This new research demonstrates outcomes with significant implications for patient quality of life, as well as decreasing the costs and clinical burden in treating DFU.Recent research has focused on drug-loaded scaffolds to treat DFU. The scaffold structure is a novel carrier for cell and drug delivery that enhances wound healing. The research, published in Springer Link, will be presented by Professor Lamprou at the Controlled Release Society (CRS) Workshop Italy (7 – 9 October). Professor Dimitrios Lamprou, a Professor of Biofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing at Queen’s School of Pharmacy and corresponding author, explains: “These scaffolds are like windows that enable doctors to monitor the healing constantly. This avoids needing to remove them constantly, which can provoke infection and delay the healing process. “The ‘frame’ has an antibiotic that helps to ‘kill’ the bacteria infection, and the ‘glass’ that can be prepared by collagen/sodium alginate can contain a growth factor to encourage cell growth. The scaffold has two molecular layers that both play an important role in healing the wound.” Lead author Ms Katie Glover, from the Queen’s School of Pharmacy, concludes: “Using bioprinting technology, we have developed a scaffold with suitable mechanical properties to treat the wound, which can be easily modified to the size of the wound.” Glover added, “This provides a low-cost alternative to current DFU treatments, which could revolutionise DFU treatment, improving patient outcomes while reducing the economic burden caused by rapidly increasing patient demand as the number of people with diabetes continues to increase every year. Embrace Spirituality To Gain True Material Prosperity The New Indian Express
Embrace Spirituality To Gain True Material Prosperity The New Indian Express
Embrace Spirituality To Gain True Material Prosperity – The New Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/embrace-spirituality-to-gain-true-material-prosperity-the-new-indian-express/ Mata Amritanandamayi (Photo| D Sampath Kumar, EPS) Children, some people say the reason for poverty in Bharat (India) is her spiritual culture. But spirituality is not an obstacle to earning wealth or making material progress. On the contrary, spirituality fosters even material progress. Earning wealth has long been accepted as one of the goals of life, together with dharma (righteous living) and moksha (spiritual liberation). We must be careful, however, not to accumulate wealth unethically or for selfish reasons. Long ago, the people of India were steeped in spirituality. For this reason, she was also materially prosperous. But gradually, some people started becoming greedier. They began to complete for wealth, power and position. Their pride and jealousy made them abandon dharma and forget god. Discord intensified, affecting the country’s unity and strength, and this, in turn, led to conquest by colonial powers. They plundered its wealth and left it bereft of riches. How hard it would be to sow a seed in a desert and nurture it until it sprouts and becomes a healthy sapling. Such is the state of this country; we must work hard to make it lush and green again. Sadly, the truth is that we have not learnt even from such bitter experiences. The majority are focused on personal gain rather than national development. They do not realise that true material prosperity can be gained only by embracing spirituality. If we continue like this, forgetting our own heritage, we will suffer greatly for it. Nature has provided enough for the country’s sustainable development. If we utilise our resources properly, there will be no poverty here. But after India became independent, we did not harness our natural resources properly. Whereas other countries are turning deserts into farmlands, we are turning fertile fields into wastelands. Rural development is still not a priority. For this to happen, educated youth must go to the villages and make villagers aware of the government schemes supporting them. They should motivate people to regard the country as their home, and inspire people to use farmlands for agricultural activities. At the same time, the youth must also share our spiritual culture with the villagers. Spirituality teaches us to give more than we take from society. When we assimilate spiritual principles, we become more considerate towards others. We will begin to see others as ourselves and be willing to share whatever resources we have with them. The ancient sages advised us to make money with a hundred hands and to share it with a thousand hands. If we assimilate this message, India’s future will be glorious. The writer is a world-renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian Spirituality teaches us to give more than we take from society. When we assimilate spiritual principles, we become more considerate towards others. We will begin to see others as ourselves and share our resources with them.

Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’ Oregon State found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unfortunate 42-16 punch to the gut against the Utah Utes last week. The Beavers were surely aware of their 10.5-point disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result. QB Ben Gulbranson had a pretty forgettable game, throwing two interceptions with only 177 yards passing. Most of the squad’s points came courtesy of special teams, which contributed ten. K Atticus Sappington delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game. Meanwhile, Stanford received a tough blow last week as they fell 45-27 to the Oregon Ducks. Stanford was down 38-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Stanford’s loss came about despite a quality game from RB Casey Filkins, who snatched one receiving TD. Oregon State is the favorite in this one, with an expected 4.5-point margin of victory. Those burned by picking them against the spread last week might want to keep in mind that the team has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season. The losses put Oregon State at 3-2 and the Cardinal at 1-3. The Beavers are 0-1 after losses this year, Stanford 0-2. Hyperspace Defines The Future Of Identity In The Metaverse With 3D Avatars – Digital Journal https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hyperspace-defines-the-future-of-identity-in-the-metaverse-with-3d-avatars-digital-journal/ Phoenix, Arizona, United States, 8th Oct 2022, King NewsWire, Hyperspace, an intuitive, drag-and-drop “no code” metaverse platform, is shaping the future of identity in the metaverse with 3D avatars. The user-friendly Hyperspace platform uses a proprietary technology called Universal Avatars to power their 3D avatars and users’ metaverse identities that can be used throughout various virtual worlds and websites. Universal Avatars are optimized to perform at scale so thousands of Avatars can visit the same virtual places. The system, which does not require any specific device or software download, allows users to sign in using an email and password, a LinkedIn account, or what’s known in enterprise, government and education as – SSO (single sign-on) option. This means that users can sign in with credentials from their organization with their identity attached to their avatar, allowing them to take that avatar to meetings, a series of virtual events from different organizations, immersive training experiences, or anywhere else within the metaverse. The avatars can also be used for AI chatbots and customer service support purposes. Hyperspace avatars are completely customizable, with over one billion style combinations. Users can choose their avatar’s physical appearance, clothing, movement, embodiment, and lifelike gestures and expressions. The customizable 3D avatars help create a sense of co-presence, which allows for shared experiences that can lead to a sense of community, and belonging. Lifelike gestures and postures such as hugs, high-fives, and handshakes that accompany the 3D avatar help with self-expression and allow more meaningful engagement beyond simple emojis.  “As virtual worlds become more popular, there has been a lot of discussion about what type of identity to use in these virtual spaces.  In a continuously increasing digital world, we’re craving connection and personality. We want to see people in a real-life context. It’s meaningful—and that’s exactly what 3D avatars offer. They allow your audience to completely immerse themselves in your world. And it all starts with customizations, options to personalize it and make it truly their own. Hyperspace has created a form of identity expression in the metaverse unlike any other,” stated Danny Stefanic, CEO of Hyperspace.       “Using Universal Avatars, you can take your identity everywhere, across experiences. I believe that is really important for creating a truly interconnected metaverse that allows your digital twin to seamlessly interact with people, places and things in the virtual realm. These unique, customizable 3D Avatars can be used to fully enhance presence within the metaverse, especially during virtual events, learning and development training, meet-ups, support and sales, and even medical and patient care,” added Stefanic. Hyperspace gives metaverse users the ability to accelerate their business into the metaverse and drive deeper connections through shared immersive experiences. The intuitive platform can be used for events, training, marketing, or remote work. The Universal Avatars will allow users to fully take charge of their identities when in the metaverse and customize their Avatar with job specific clothing options, hair, makeup, and more. With the 3D avatars from Hyperspace, metaverse users can take digital communication and identity to the next level with the ability to convey verbal and nonverbal communication with their digital twins.A high degree of customizability allows attendees to create 3D avatars representing who they are and how they self-identify.  To learn more about Hyperspace, go to www.hyperspace.mv.    Media Contact Organization: Hyperspace Contact Person: Media Relations Email: [email protected] Website: https://hyperspace.mv City: Phoenix State: Arizona Country: United States The post Hyperspace Defines the Future of Identity in the Metaverse with 3D Avatars appeared first on King Newswire. 17 Big IPhone Features And Improvements On IOS 16.1 « IOS & IPhone :: Gadget Hacks – Ios.gadgethacks.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/17-big-iphone-features-and-improvements-on-ios-16-1-ios-iphone-gadget-hacks-ios-gadgethacks-com/ It hasn’t been long since Apple released iOS 16.0 with over 350 new features, but iOS 16.1 is hot on its tail with even more cool updates for your iPhone. While some of the recent upgrades were expected, others are somewhat surprising — and there’s even one that you may not even think was possible. Apple’s iOS 16.1 update is still in beta testing, but you can install the beta on your iPhone right now if you want to start testing the below features out before everyone else. Some of these features also appear on iPadOS 16.1 for iPad, also still in beta. Don’t Miss: Apple Photos Has 21 New Features for iPhone That Make Your Life Easier 1. Larger Numbers for Battery Percentage On iOS 16.0, Apple finally added a switch in the Battery settings on Face ID devices to enable the battery percentage in the status bar, something Touch ID devices have long been able to do. The update put the percentage inside the battery icon, and iOS 16.1 makes the numbers larger and easier to see. Below, you can see the icons before and after in light and dark modes. 2. Battery Percentage for More iPhones While iOS 16.0 lets us add the battery percentage to the battery icon in the status bar on Face ID devices, it’s not available on all Face ID models. Specifically, the iPhone XR, 11, 12 mini, and 13 mini are left out, presumedly because of their smaller displays. The iOS 16.1 update adds support for those models, so now all iPhone models that can run iOS 16 can get the new battery icon. 3. Clean Energy Charging Go to Settings – Battery, then open up the “Battery Health & Charging” menu, previously just “Battery Health,” and you’ll see a new option called “Clean Energy Charging.” Apple says your iPhone “will try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon emission electricity is available.” It goes on to say your iPhone “learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach full charge before you need to use it.” The setting should be automatically enabled by default, but the “Learn More” link goes to a non-existing webpage, which should go live when iOS 16.1 stable is released. 4. Live Activities Live Activities are finally here. They appear on the bottom of your iPhone’s lock screen, as well as in the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, and display an app’s most current data, updated in real time. Live sports games in the Apple TV app is one example of what Live Activities can do. Pick a live game available in your region from the Live Sports section, then tap the “Follow” button. You’ll then see the play-by-play and real-time scores on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max. Right now, I can only get it to work with MLB games. According to Apple, a Live Activity can only be active for up to eight hours in the Dynamic Island, but it can go as long as 12 hours on the lock screen. So on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, a Live Activity would disappear from the Dynamic Island after eight hours but remain on your lock screen for up to four more hours. Needless to say, you can stop following a Live Activity at any time. There are also four different viewing modes for Live Activities in the Dynamic Island: a compact leading view, a compact trailing view, a minimal view, and an expanded view. 5. Live Activities API Live Activities aren’t just available for Apple’s apps — any third-party developer can incorporate them into their apps using the new ActivityKit framework. Examples of activities you could track include a ride pickup from Uber or Lyft, package delivery from UPS or FedEx, food delivery from GrubHub or DoorDash, pickup order for Starbucks or Target, workout using Nike or Health, and so on. While developers are now building Live Activities for their apps, you won’t be able to try any out until the iOS 16.1 stable release appears. That’s because developers can’t submit their updated apps with Live Activities to the App Store until the iOS 16.1 Release Candidate is available, the last beta build. You may be able to find beta apps on TestFlight that are experimenting with Live Activities. 6. Download In-App Content Before First Launching Apps There’s a new toggle in Settings – App Store for “In-App Content,” which will “automatically run apps in the background to download content before you first launch them” when enabled. You’ll notice the change mostly in games and navigation apps that need a lot of resources to run correctly. The App Store has file size limits, but developers can push the required resources after the initial app installation. It is unclear if the feature only applies during the app’s initial installation or if it can also install new in-app content in the background after manually or automatically installing an app update. After installing the iOS 16.1 update, this toggle should be enabled by default. Before (left) and after (right) the iOS 16.1 update. 7. Subscribe to Fitness+ Without Apple Watch Before iOS 16.1, you had to have an Apple Watch to subscribe to Fitness+ in the Fitness app. Now, you don’t need one, but you’d be missing out on all the health and fitness metrics displayed on the Apple Watch during a workout. If you don’t care about that data and just want to follow along to a workout session, Fitness+ is now a viable option. 8. New Shortcut Actions The iOS 16.0 update added almost 60 new actions in the Shortcuts app, and iOS 16.1 throws a few more in. One is “Get Current Focus” for the Settings app, which returns the currently active focus. The other is “Search in Shortcuts” for the Shortcuts app, which opens Shortcuts and performs a search for the specified text. 9. Delete Apple Wallet If you don’t use Apple Pay, Apple Cash, Apple Card, or store loyalty cards and tickets in Apple Wallet, you can finally delete the Apple Wallet app. Before, you could only remove it from the home screen, hiding it in the App Library, but now it can be gone for good. 10. Lock Screen Customization Changes Apple is making the lock screen and home screen customization less confusing on iOS 16.1. Now, whenever you hit the “Customize” button for a lock screen in the lock screen switcher, it will give you a choice between editing the lock screen or home screen wallpaper. Previously, it would jump right to the lock screen editor when you tapped “Customize.” Then, when you were done editing it, you would get an option to “Set as Wallpaper Pair” or “Customize Home Screen.” You’ll still see those two options when adding a new lock screen. Don’t Miss: Customize Your iPhone’s Lock Screen with These 27 Killer New Features on iOS 16 11. Switch Wallpaper Pairs from Settings Apple continues to tweak wallpaper management, and iOS 16.1 gives us better options via Settings – Wallpapers. Before, you could only customize your current wallpapers or add a new pair — you couldn’t switch between all your pairs. The new interface fixes that. The wallpaper settings will show your current pair of wallpapers, and you can swipe left or right to find the wallpaper set you want to switch to, and you can hit “Set as Current” to make the change. While there’s a redesigned “Add New Wallpaper” button below the previews, you can also swipe left to the very end of the previews and hit the plus (+) on the blank set to build and use a new pair. 12. Screenshot Editor Changes When you tap on the thumbnail after taking a screenshot to open the editor, everything should look the same until it’s time to exit the editor. Tap “Done,” and instead of a large action sheet that takes up the bottom half of the screen (left screenshot below), you’ll get a smaller contextual menu near the “Done” button itself (right screenshot below). 13. iCloud Shared Photo Library If you use Family Sharing to share content with your partner, kids, and other family members, iCloud Shared Photo Library is another feature you can now take advantage of. It can be shared with up to five users, and everyone can add, edit, favorite, caption, and delete content. You can include all your photos in the shared library or use the setup tools to include only specific content based on a start date or group of people. People can also add content manually or share media automatically via a switch in the Camera app, using a Bluetooth proximity trigger, or from sharing suggestions in For You. Content from your iCloud Shared Photo Library may appear in the Photos widget, under your Featured Photos in For You, or as memory videos. Images via Apple 14. Matter Support Matter, a new unifying open connectivity standard for the Home app, Siri, Control Center, and HomeKit-based apps, enables secure, IP-based communication among a wide range of compatible smart home devices and accessories. Designed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, which includes hundreds of companies like Apple, Amazon, and Google, the royalty-free protocol makes devices and accessories from different companies work together seamlessly across platforms. According to Apple, it will “provide more choice and interoperability for customers.” Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings are just some of the smart home tech that will work with Matter. To use Matter accessories, you’ll need a home hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod device. While it’s not there now, you may be able to see all of your connected Matter accessories via Settings – General – Matter Accessories. 15. Game Center Improvements The Contacts app will show your friends’ Game Center profiles, and you can tap through to see what games they’re playing and the achievements they’re accomplishing. There’s also a new toggle in Game Center for “Allow finding by friends” and a new splash screen for...

Latest EU Sanctions Expected To Stimulate Russia’s Own Crypto Market, Exchanges Maintain Services – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/latest-eu-sanctions-expected-to-stimulate-russias-own-crypto-market-exchanges-maintain-services-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ The new crypto sanctions imposed by the European Union are likely to spur the development of the country’s digital asset market, according to a Russian lawmaker. Anatoly Aksakov, who chairs the parliamentary Financial Market Committee, believes Russians will manage to bypass the restrictions. Meanwhile, major exchanges have reportedly informed Russian users that trading continues. Russians Find Ways to Circumvent Mounting European Crypto Sanctions, Duma Member Insists This week, the EU adopted its eighth package of penalties against Russia, meant to hit its government, economy, and energy exports in response to the recent escalation of the military conflict in Ukraine and the annexation of Ukrainian territories. Russian access to cryptocurrency, viewed as a tool to circumvent financial restrictions and export wealth, was also targeted. Anatoly Aksakov The Council of the European Union completely banned the provision of crypto wallet, account, and custody services to Russian residents and entities. However, according to a high-ranking member of the Russian parliament quoted by the Tass news agency, the EU decision may actually stimulate the development of Russia’s digital financial asset (DFA) market. The opinion was expressed by Anatoly Aksakov, head of the Financial Market Committee at the State Duma, the lower house of Russian parliament. He has been deeply involved in recent efforts to regulate the country’s crypto space, including the use of digital currencies in international settlements. Authorities in Moscow have been discussing the matter for over a year and considering an expansion of the legal framework which currently covers mostly DFAs with an issuer, such as tokens. The latest round of EU sanctions tightens previously imposed restrictions. Earlier this year, as part of its fifth package of measures approved a little over a month after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, the 27-strong bloc limited only “high-value” crypto-asset services for Russians and Russian-registered organizations — those for digital holdings exceeding €10,000 in fiat value (approx. $11,000 at the time, less than $10,000 now). Binance, Huobi Comment on Latest EU Sanctions, No New Restrictions for Now “Similar decisions have already been made before. They closed the official representative offices of their crypto exchanges in Russia, but de facto nothing has changed. There can also be an office in the virtual space, not at some address in Moscow,” Anatoly Aksakov further elaborated, insisting that Russians can easily bypass the sanctions. While the world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance, partially complied with the EU’s earlier requirements, allowing only withdrawals in the case of Russian account balances exceeding €10,000, it has now told users it did not introduce new restrictions, Bits.media revealed in a report. Another major platform, Huobi, said it “continues to support the stable trading of Russian users.” Of the top seven global crypto exchanges popular with Russians, which also include Bybit, Coinbase, FTX, Kraken, and Gate.io, none is a “European resident” for which the measures would be mandatory, the Russian crypto news outlet noted. Russian crypto experts, like the CEO of defi banking platform Indefibank, Sergey Mendeleev, doubt that most crypto companies would rush to implement the EU resolution targeting all Russian users as this would lead to loss of market positions. “Moreover, these restrictions stimulate the development of modern technologies. Next year will be the year of digital financial assets in Russia, you’ll see,” Aksakov promised. His comments come as deputies in the State Duma prepare to adopt a new law “On Digital Currency” designed to regulate decentralized crypto assets such as bitcoin and their employment in cross-border crypto payments between Russian companies and their foreign partners. U.S. Come Back To Beat Thailand At FIVB Women’s World Champs – China.org.cn https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-come-back-to-beat-thailand-at-fivb-womens-world-champs-china-org-cn/ WARSAW, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Team USA came back from two sets down to outplay Thailand 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25, 15-13) at the 2022 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Lodz, Poland on Saturday. Karch Kiraly’s team, who had already qualified for the knockout phase, finished the second round in second place, just behind Serbia. In the initial stage of the game in Atlas Arena, the Americans made many unforced mistakes, which allowed their rivals to take the initiative. Opposite Kokram Pimpichaya, who was the best scorer of her team with 20 points, led Thailand to win the two first sets. Danai Sriwatcharamethakul’s side were just one step away from a triumph when the U.S. found their feet to turn the game around, turning out to be more efficient than Thailand in both offence and blocking. Middle blockers Chiaka Ogbogu and Haleigh Washington found their way to deal with the Thai’s block. Kiraly’s players continued the momentum to move the match to the tie-break. The last set was incredibly tight but the U.S. had the last word. Outside hitter Kara Bajema fired a cross-court spike to put her team in front 14-13. In the next action, Bajema’s strong serve allowed Lauren Carlini to close the match with a counterattack. “Honestly, Chiaka Ogbogu and I have been working very hard to make ourselves as available as we can and to work on being in good blocking positions, so it’s been a process throughout this whole tournament. I’m just stoked that we managed to pull it off, last game in pool play,” 27-year-old Washington claimed in an interview with the official site of the competition. First-placed Serbia extended their winning streak to nine games, as on Saturday the reigning champions beat Türkiye in straight sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-23. Both teams will move to the next round. Opposite Tijana Boskovic, who was the MVP of the 2018 World Championship, delivered a match-high 23 points. In the evening match at Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland beat Germany 3-2 (26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 26-28, 15-10). The team led by Stefano Lavarini took fourth position in Pool F to book a ticket to the quarterfinals. Enditem

Duke Struggles On Offense And With Injuries In 23-20 OT ACC Road Loss To Georgia Tech – Raleigh News & Observer https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/duke-struggles-on-offense-and-with-injuries-in-23-20-ot-acc-road-loss-to-georgia-tech-raleigh-news-observer/ Georgia Tech running back Hassan Hall (3) carries the ball for a gain of 7-yards during the first half of an NCAA college football game against Duke, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at Bobby Dodd Stadium, in Atlanta. (Daniel Varnado/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP) Daniel Varnado AP Beat up by injuries on both sides of the ball, Duke got a spark from its special teams and a gutsy drive in the final seconds of regulation before falling short in overtime Saturday. After tying the score in the final seconds of regulation, Duke saw Charlie Ham’s 52-yard field-goal attempt fall short and to the left in overtime, allowing Georgia Tech to beat the Blue Devils, 23-20, at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Duke (4-2, 1-1 ACC) rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter, tying the score with eight seconds left in regulation on Riley Leonard’s touchdown pass to Nicky Dalmolin. Georgia Tech scored on a 37-yard Gavin Stewart field goal on its first possession of overtime. On their overtime possession, the Blue Devils appeared to move inside the Georgia Tech 10 when Leonard completed a pass to Sahmir Hagans on third-and-4 from the 19. But an offensive pass interference penalty on wide receiver Jontavis Robertson pushed Duke back to the 34. Asked what he saw on the penalty or what the officials told him, Duke coach Mike Elko demurred. “Yeah, I’m gonna wait and watch the film on that one,” Elko said. After an incomplete pass, Ham’s 52-yard field-goal try was off target. Trailing 20-6 midway through the fourth quarter, Duke finally found the end zone when Hagans returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown with 5:55 to play. The Blue Devils defense, despite missing starting linebacker Shaka Heyward following a targeting ejection in the first half, stopped Georgia Tech on its final two possessions of regulation. After the second one, Leonard engineered an 80-yard touchdown drive with no timeouts, connecting with Dalmolin to tie the score. Duke was helped on that late touchdown drive by three Georgia Tech penalties — roughing the passer, personal foul for hands to the face and a pass interference. “Through it all, you know, we got the ball with two minutes left and no timeouts and put the ball down the field and gave ourselves a chance to win the game in overtime,” Elko said. “I love the fight.” The late rally gave Duke a chance on a day its offense wasn’t at its best as it was beaten up with injuries. Duke started the game without its leading rusher, running back Jaylen Coleman (lower-body injury). Along the way, the Blue Devils lost two more starting players on offense in starting left guard Maurice McIntyre (lower body) and wide receiver Jalon Calhoun (upper body). Another running back, Jordan Waters, was injured and left the game in the fourth quarter. With those three starters unavailable, Duke’s offense turned in its lowest output of the season. The Blue Devils managed a season-low 278 total yards. Duke entered the game averaging 35 points and 444.2 yards of offense per game. Leonard completed 20 of 42 passes for a measly 136 yards. He was sacked three times, and Georgia Tech was credited with five quarterback hurries. Leonard also threw an interception inside the Yellow Jackets’ 10. “I thought he battled,” Elko said of Leonard. “He didn’t have his best game for sure. We didn’t do the best job protecting him for sure. We didn’t put him in the best situations to be successful today.” Without Coleman, and with Waters leaving the game with an injury in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils gained only 142 rushing yards. The Blue Devils converted just 6 of 17 third downs. That made the task of beating the Yellow Jackets (3-3, 2-1 ACC), who are playing under an interim head coach, too difficult for Duke. Instead, Georgia Tech won its second consecutive game with Brent Key coaching them following Geoff Collins’ firing. Quarterback Jeff Sims paced Georgia Tech’s offense. In his third season as a starter, Sims fired a pair of touchdown passes to stake his team to a 17-3 lead in the third quarter. Sims completed 23 of 34 passes for 227 yards. He also rushed 17 times for 95 yards as Georgia Tech ran for 180 yards before being injured on Georgia Tech’s first play of overtime. For just the second time in six games this season, Duke fell behind in the first half. Georgia Tech took a 3-0 lead on Stewart’s 22-yard field goal in the first quarter and pushed its lead to 10-0 when Sims fired an 18-yard touchdown pass to Nate McCollum in the second quarter. Duke added a Ham field goal, from 45 yards out with 2:03 left in the second quarter, to trail 10-3 at halftime. The score, though, was only part of the bad news, as McIntyre and Calhoun didn’t make it to halftime. The situation grew worse late in the first half when Heyward was ejected on Georgia Tech’s final possession of the first half. Heyward hit Sims high as the Yellow Jackets quarterback started his slide on a running play. The officials’ replay review confirmed the Duke linebacker targeted Sims with a helmet-to-helmet hit. Duke was already playing without linebacker Tre Freeman, who started last week’s 38-17 win over Virginia, due to a lower-body injury. Freeman is expected to miss multiple games. A lower-body injury has limited another Duke linebacker, Dorian Mausi, for the past month. He missed two of the last four games and didn’t start at Georgia Tech. But he did play in a reserve role. Lindblad Transforms Kids Into Global Explorers – Travel Weekly https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/lindblad-transforms-kids-into-global-explorers-travel-weekly/ When the opportunity arose to visit the Galapagos Islands but the timing meant my son would miss two days of school, I hesitated for about 30 seconds. The famed archipelago is, after all, a natural classroom. But because I was traveling with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic, it ended up being a complete educational immersion. From learning the difference between a spatter cone and a cinder cone to distinguishing species based on being endemic, introduced or adaptive, the naturalists on the National Geographic Islander II gave my son a science lesson he’ll never forget, in a way that didn’t for one second feel like school. Lindblad launched its National Geographic Global Explorers program for kids 18 and under in 2017. Designed in conjunction with National Geographic Education, it was introduced on its Galapagos sailings and has since expanded to Baja, Alaska and, in 2021, to Antarctica. Photo Credit: TW photo by Johannaa Jainchill Sven Lindblad, founder of Lindblad Expeditions, said in a video introducing the program that it is “really trying to help kids get more integrated into the experience in a variety of ways, science projects and such …. And I’m convinced that many of these kids who come with us here to the Galapagos Islands and other parts of the world, having been exposed to scientists, naturalists, geography, they are the future explorers. No question about it.” That may be the case with my kid, who ate up all of the science and exploring during our six days on the ship and now talks about being an onboard naturalist himself one day. Aside from thoroughly filling out the Field Notebook every Global Explorer gets upon boarding, with information about the activities kids are encouraged to complete both on the ship and “in the field” (on land), he was glued to the Lindblad naturalists on every island excursion, where they patiently answered and explained all the questions a 9-year-old surrounded by sharks, sea lions and volcanoes is bound to have.  A child lugs snorkeling gear on the beach on Bartolome Island in the Galapagos. Photo Credit: TW photo by Johanna Jainchill The naturalists tailor the Global Explorers experience to the number and ages of the kids onboard. Popular on all trips is getting a Zodiac “driver’s license” and, depending on the location, may include collecting plankton and viewing it under a microscope or creating slow motion and time-lapse videos with a National Geographic certified photo instructor. On our trip, my son kept track of daily water temperatures (and learned which currents make the Galapagos’ water as chilly as it is) and got a private tour of the bridge with a first officer who explained how a compass, chart plotter and fathometer work. He was proud to then teach me the difference between a mile and nautical mile. A highlight of the sailing for him was standing alongside Paulina, the main organizer of the Global Explorers program on the Islander II, presenting to the rest of the passengers onboard an assignment to invent a species, with a thorough explanation of what traits it has and why. The author’s son spots a sea turtle while snorkeling in the Galapagos. Photo Credit: Elise Hiza Even without the program there is plenty to do and learn on a Galapagos sailing. Snorkeling, kayaking, hiking and the abundance of wildlife would keep any kid occupied on vacation. But Global Explorers adds a real depth to the experience. One of my favorite things about the Field Notebook, in which kids also draw pictures and write facts about the wildlife and geological formations they see, is that it serves as a permanent memory of the trip, one we’ve looked at several times since returning home. And while my son may never drive a Zodiac again, he’ll always have his write-up of the experience: “It was superfun. Shaky at the start. Then I got the hang of it, and I went really fast.”  %

Heres What Medicare Part A Costs And Covers In 2023 69News WFMZ-TV
Heres What Medicare Part A Costs And Covers In 2023 69News WFMZ-TV
Here’s What Medicare Part A Costs And Covers In 2023 – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/heres-what-medicare-part-a-costs-and-covers-in-2023-69news-wfmz-tv/ Medicare helps tens of millions of Americans get necessary healthcare coverage in retirement. With coverage available at age 65 for most participants, the various parts of Medicare work together to provide comprehensive coverage for multiple types of healthcare needs. Under the traditional Medicare program, Part A offers hospital and inpatient-care services. Medicare Part A sees minor changes each year, and the government agency that administers the program recently announced what’s new for 2023. Here’s what participants can expect. What Medicare Part A offers you Medicare Part A coverage comes into play when you require a hospital stay or need to go to a skilled nursing facility. Under typical coverage, patients get coverage for medically necessary hospital stays, giving them a semi-private room and the medical treatment, services, tests, and prescription drugs needed to address the patient’s condition. Patients also qualify to receive meals during their stays. Image source: Getty Images. Medicare Part A is intended to provide the healthcare needed to resolve adverse health conditions fully. Stays of two days or more qualify for coverage, with the federal government financing extremely long stays, in many cases. It’s important to understand that Medicare Part A doesn’t cover long-term nursing-home stays. However, skilled nursing care does qualify, although for inpatient-facility costs to be covered, patients typically need to have had a related hospital stay of at least three days. As with hospital stays, Medicare’s intent with its skilled nursing-care coverage is to address conditions and get participants back to full health. Patients can also get access to some other services under Medicare Part A. These include home hospice care for terminally-ill patients, as well as home-provided care for other conditions when it’s medically necessary. Medicare Part A costs One big benefit of Medicare Part A is that most people are eligible to participate without having to pay a monthly premium. If you or your spouse paid into the Medicare program via payroll withholding for at least 10 years, you generally won’t have to pay for Part A coverage. Some people who don’t have 10 full years of work history will have to pay monthly premiums. Those working between 30 and 39 quarters will pay $278 per month in 2023, up $4 from 2022. Those with less than 30 quarters of eligible work history have to pay $506 per month, higher by $7 from year-earlier levels. If you need to use your Part A coverage during the year, there are additional costs under the program. A deductible of $1,600 for 2023 applies upfront before Medicare starts to cover costs. That’s $44 higher than it was in 2022. There are also copayments for many Part A services. After the deductible is met, Medicare provides full coverage for the first 60 days of a hospital stay. From the 61st day to the 90th, the copayment is $400 per day, up $11 from 2022. On the 91st day and beyond, you have 60 lifetime reserve days for which you’ll pay $800 per day in 2023, $22 higher than in 2022. The cost structure for skilled nursing-facility stays is similar. Copayments are $0 for the first 20 days, and then from the 21st day to the 100th day, patients have to pay $200 per day. That’s up by $5.50 per day from 2022. Beyond the 100th day, Medicare no longer offers coverage. Take advantage of Medicare Part A Retirees always have to take healthcare costs into consideration as a key expense in their retirement planning. Medicare Part A does a great job of covering many of those costs, but it doesn’t cover everything. By getting to know the program better, you can more accurately plan for your overall finances in retirement. The Taco Bell Experiment You Have To See To Believe Mashed
The Taco Bell Experiment You Have To See To Believe Mashed
The Taco Bell Experiment You Have To See To Believe – Mashed https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-taco-bell-experiment-you-have-to-see-to-believe-mashed/ KULLAPONG PARCHERAT/Shutterstock Have you ever wondered what the healthiest fast-food place is? Okay, eating a greasy hamburger or piece of fried chicken you got for only a couple of bucks is never going to be the same as eating a bowl of quinoa or brown rice. But, out of all the mainstream fast-food restaurants, which one would be the healthiest compared to the rest? While a list of the healthiest fast-food restaurants may put businesses such as Subway, Chipotle, and even Chick-fil-A near the top thanks to their moderate lack of deep-fried foods and low-calorie offerings, you may be surprised to learn that Taco Bell may actually be considered a “healthy” fast-food option. According to Taste of Home, Taco Bell has removed artificial flavors and colors from its menu, serves cage-free eggs and antibiotic-free chicken, and plans to reduce sodium by 25% by 2025. Thrillist reports that certain menu items such as the Black Beans and Rice, Grilled Steak Soft Taco, and even the Cheesy Toasted Breakfast Burrito are all healthy items to get at your local Taco Bell — or at least healthier than a greasy burger, all things considered. But if Taco Bell is so “healthy,” then it would stand that eating large quantities of it wouldn’t have too bad an effect on your body, right? For one man in Lexington, Virginia, the idea of following a “Taco Bell Diet” sounded like an interesting experiment. Could a person survive 30 days on Taco Bell items and suffer little health consequences? Sam Reid ate Taco Bell for 30 days Tada Images/Shutterstock if you’re perhaps interested in the study of fast food in American society, you may be familiar with “Supersize Me.” It’s that film where Morgan Spurlock consumes McDonald’s over the course of one month and documents the effects it has on his body (via IMDb). Young Virginian athlete and content creator Sam Reid launched a similar experiment in the summer of 2022, where he would consume Taco Bell for 30 days as part of a plan to ignite discussion on fast food in health-focused diets. According to WDBJ 7 News, Reid began his experiment in July, launching a Kickstarter to help fund his 30 days of Living Mas, with a plan to document changes to his health throughout before uploading the entire experiment online. Although he would be consuming Taco Bell for over a month, Reid explains he would be visiting doctors and performing fitness tests to see if he could maintain a healthy weight even if he’s eating cheap fast food. As NBC 29 reports, by day 15, Reid claimed to be “feeling great.” His project had gained some attention on social media and local Taco Bell workers had come to know him on a first-name basis. On August 22, Reid ate at Taco Bell’s flagship location on the Las Vegas Strip, thus concluding the experiment. His final video on the aftermath of the experiment notes that his first meal aside from Taco Bell was a feast at a local Cook Out restaurant. Reid announced on his Kickstarter page that he will be posting his finished documentary to his Youtube channel on October 12, 2022.
