LSU finally scores
Jayden Daniels found Mason Taylor for a 17-yard strike over the middle on a third-and-long to set the Tigers up inside the 1-yard line. From there, Josh Williams punched it in to finally get LSU on the board. 20-7 with 3:05 left in the half. Huge drive and a particularly huge throw from Daniels. Believe it or not, LSU has an edge in total yards now after that 96-yard drive.

LSU driving
The Tigers are moving the football yet again and gaining some momentum with the help of a couple Tennessee penalties. Brian Kelly is mad about something on the sideline, however. Huge sequence here for LSU since Tennessee gets the ball to start the second half.

Tennessee stalls
After picking up a big fourth down conversion in LSU territory, Tennessee’s high-powered attack suddenly stalled with three consecutive incompletions. Uncharacteristic, but a huge stop for the Tigers, who will take over inside their own 5-yard line trailing 20-0 with 8:19 left in the first half.

Fourth down
Fourth downs haven’t been kind to LSU so far in this game, and now it’s the Tigers’ defense facing a big one as the Volunteers call timeout to discuss a fourth-and-2 from LSU’s 43. Tigers just came up with a huge sack from Greg Brooks Jr. on third down, but the Vols were lucky that Hooker’s fumble on the play was scooped up by running back Dylan Sampson, who ran it for a gain of two yards.
Update: Tennesse converts with a shovel pass

Another blunder
LSU’s offense is moving the football pretty well, but the Tigers can’t stop hurting themselves once they get in position to score. Jayden Daniels just took a sack that pushed the Tigers out of field goal range and into a fourth-and-12. Even an incompletion there would have made going for it somewhat practical. Instead, it leads to a punt that results in a touchback. Volunteers get it back leading 20-0.

Garrett Dellinger down
LSU is already without its starting left tackle today and just had another offensive lineman, Garrett Dellinger, helped off the field. The Tigers are struggling in the run game as it is and may be challenged even more depending on the severity of Dellinger’s issue.

Momentum swing
LSU is now 0-for-2 on fourth-down conversion attempts after the Vols stuff a fourth-and-1 run attempt near midfield. Nowhere to go for Josh Williams, and the Volunteers IMMEDIATELY strike. What a momentum swing as Hendon Hooker hits Jaylin Hyatt down the left sideline for a 45-yard touchdown strike to make it 20-0. Hyatt showed serious speed on that one. LSU is in deep trouble here.

First quarter
Tennessee leads 13-0 entering the second quarter, but LSU should feel good about where it stands — all things considered. The Tigers had just about everything go wrong that possibly could but are on the cusp of being down just 13-7 if they can finish this promising drive with a touchdown. Seems like they are going out of their way to get Kayshon Boutte involved.

Another field goal
Give the LSU defense credit, because the Tigers have now forced consecutive field goals. It’s 13-0 Tennessee now after a 68-yard drive that stalled out on the edge of the red zone. Tigers are fortunate to be down just two possessions after almost everything that has gone wrong for them at this point.

Massive stand
Kayshon Boutte reached the football out to try and reach the sticks on a fourth-and-4 play, but he was ruled down short of the marker and a replay confirmed the call. Tigers had a chip shot field goal in the bag, but Brian Kelly opted to go for it. The gamble backfires and Tennessee takes over leading 10-0.

Nice drive
LSU convers a third-and-13 to keep its second drive of the game alive. Tigers in Tennessee territory and gaining some confidence here as the Volunteers take a timeout to avoid being penalized for having too many men on the field. PTSD for Tennessee fans reflecting on the 2010 loss at Tiger Stadium.

Nice stand
LSU’s defense holds after another special teams disaster, forcing a 35-yard Tennessee field goal. 10-0 Vols, but that’s nice a boost for the Tigers after a horrific start. Vols had a second-and-2 but were stuffed on consecutive running plays. Looked like Josh Heupel considered going for it before opting for the FG.

Boutte drop
Jayden Daniels unleashed a missile over the middle toward Kayshon Boutte on third-and-3, but Boutte couldn’t bring it down. Throw was slightly behind him, but still a ball that you would expect a projected first-rounder to catch. Dee Williams returns the punt 58 yards, setting the Vols up with another short field.
