IMF Board Approves $1.3b Financing For Ukraine Ghana Business News
IMF Board Approves $1.3b Financing For Ukraine – Ghana Business News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/imf-board-approves-1-3b-financing-for-ukraine-ghana-business-news/
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Friday October 7, 2022 approved financing to the tune of $1.3 billion for Ukraine.
According to the Fund, the disbursement is under the new food shock window of its Rapid Financing Instrument.
Ukraine has been engaged in a war for seven months now after its territories were invaded by Russia. The conflict has impacted Ukraine economically, and the IMF says the war has resulted among other things in large and urgent fiscal and external financing needs for the country.
“The Ukrainian authorities deserve considerable credit for having maintained an important degree of macro-financial stability in these extremely challenging circumstances,” the Fund says.
As a result of the war, Ukraine’s GDP is projected to contract by 35 per cent in 2022 relative to 2021.
The IMF notes that this disbursement under the RFI (equivalent to 50 per cent of Ukraine’s quota in the IMF) will help meet urgent balance of payment needs, including due to a large cereal export shortfall, while playing a catalytic role for further financial support from Ukraine’s creditors and donors.
The IMF Executive Board reiterated its strong support for the Ukrainian people.

Diabetes And Cognitive Decline: The Link & What To Do EatingWell
Diabetes And Cognitive Decline: The Link & What To Do – EatingWell https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/diabetes-and-cognitive-decline-the-link-what-to-do-eatingwell/
The next time you’re at the mall, supermarket, sporting event or park, take a look around. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1 in 10 (or about 11.3%) of the individuals you see have received a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. And a staggering 1 in almost 4 U.S. adults (38.0%) meet the criteria for prediabetes, the CDC adds.
So this is no isolated issue, and the ripple effects of chronically elevated blood sugar levels—as experienced among those with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes—go far beyond your hunger levels, increased thirst and frequent trips to pee. All of these are symptoms of high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, by the way.
Your focus, memory and overall brain health can also take a hit, according to The Lancet. But the cognitive collateral impact of diabetes is not necessarily inevitable. Even if you have or may be at risk for type 2 diabetes, it’s possible to take steps to mind your, well, mind.
Ahead is your complete guide to the brain and blood sugar connection, plus how to eat, move and shift your lifestyle to benefit your brain.
The Link between Diabetes and the Risk of Cognitive Impairment
Researchers are still searching for the exact reason(s) why this is true, admits Roxana Ehsani, RD, CSSD, a registered dietitian nutritionist in Miami and a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
“It could be due to aging or other chronic conditions, like having high blood pressure, as well as the diabetes itself,” Ehsani says. “Also, people with diabetes are more at risk for developing chronic conditions, and if it’s poorly managed or not controlled via medication, diet and exercise, it could impact all other organs, eyes, heart, kidneys and brain.”
The most likely link between diabetes and dementia is the same reason why people with diabetes are at risk for challenges with their limbs.
“The brain depends on sugar as its main energy source. However, having high sugar levels in the blood, as in the case of diabetes, can cause stress and damage to the brain. Similar to how diabetes can lead to nerve damage to the heart, eyes and extremities, it can also affect the nerves and blood vessels of the brain,” explains Diana Licalzi, RD, a registered dietitian and co-founder of Reversing T2D in Boulder, Colorado.
Consider the fact that blood vessels deliver oxygen-rich blood to the brain. If these blood vessels are impaired, it can affect the blood flow delivered to the brain and, over time, lead to impaired cognitive function. Moreover, insulin plays an important role in the brain’s functions, and brain insulin resistance can negatively affect our cognition, per a 2020 publication in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.
“This damage can worsen memory and cognitive function and increase risk for more serious neurodegenerative disorders like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia,” Licalzi says.
Just like inadequate blood flow to one’s toes can lead to a need for amputation, for instance, decreased blood flow to the brain can lead to nerve damage that triggers problems with memory and learning, changes in mood and, in the long run, conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, the CDC confirms. The CDC notes that this can occur with blood sugar that’s too high or too low, so the happy medium is what we’re all shooting for.
5 Things You Can Do to Protect Your Brain
Even if you have a family history of type 2 diabetes or have received a diagnosis already, it’s not too late to shift your lifestyle and take smarter steps to maintain your brainpower.
“If you can establish healthy habits early on, you can help protect your brain from cognitive decline,” Licalzi says.
Try these five strategies that the dietitians we spoke to recommend.
Get Regular Checkups with Your Health Care Provider
“A lot of people don’t even know they have prediabetes or even diabetes. It’s more common than you think that people are unaware of their elevated blood sugar levels,” Ehsani says.
The American Diabetes Association confirms that more than 8 million Americans meet the criteria as we speak, yet are living undiagnosed. It’s tough to receive a diagnosis or even know that something might be “off” if you don’t visit your health care provider regularly.
“One way to be better informed about your health is to get yearly physicals with your doctor, complete with blood work. If diabetes runs in your family, it would also be important that you regularly check your blood sugar levels and A1C,” Ehsani says. “A1C looks at what your blood sugar has been for the previous three months. Prediabetes can be prevented. If you do have elevated blood sugar levels or your levels are in the prediabetes range, it can be reversed.”
Keep Tabs on Your Blood Sugar Levels
If you have been diagnosed with type 2, it’s vital to follow your doctor’s treatment plan carefully and monitor your blood sugar levels between doctor’s appointments as well.
“Poor blood sugar control is associated with worsening cognitive function. So one of the best ways to protect your brain if you have diabetes is to monitor your blood sugar levels and keep them as close to your target range as possible. This is key for managing diabetes and preventing diabetes complications, including cognitive decline,” Licalzi says.
Include Protein and Fiber in Every Meal and Snack
As you consume carbs, pairing them with foods containing protein and fiber can help balance blood sugar, Ehsani says.
Instead of plain white pasta with Alfredo, scoop up a serving of whole-wheat noodles with chicken and marinara sauce. Or during your 3 p.m. vending machine run, choose the bag of almonds rather than the pack of sour gummies.
If you’re curious about an overall meal plan, the Mediterranean diet, a plant-based diet and the DASH diet are among the best for diabetes, Licalzi says.
Eat More Omega-3 Fats and Antioxidants
An overall brain-sharp meal plan includes these healthy fats and cell protectors.
“Foods rich in omega-3s are going to be your best protector for brain health. They reduce inflammation in the body, and foods high in healthy fats are the brain’s preferred source of fuel since the brain is composed mainly of fats,” Ehsani says. “Omega-3s have been shown to reduce cognitive decline and help prevent Alzheimer’s disease as well.”
Omega-3-rich foods include fatty fish like salmon, herring, tuna and mackerel, and nuts and seeds, including walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseeds, flaxseed oil and hemp seeds.
Antioxidants are notable for their ability to act as “armor” for cells to reduce the chances of damage from external forces. Plus, research published in 2022 hints that some antioxidant-rich foods may lower the risk for dementia.
“You find your antioxidants in your fruits, veggies, spices and herbs. A lot of people don’t know but spices are a powerful source of antioxidants you can just sprinkle on your food and can add antioxidants to your plate very easily,” Ehsani adds, like by adding a dash of cinnamon to your oatmeal or some turmeric to your grain bowl.
Move Your Body
“Research shows that you can prevent or delay the progression of type 2 diabetes by achieving a healthy body weight and engaging in regular physical activity,” Licalzi says. “This will help protect your brain from very high blood sugar levels that come along with type 2 diabetes.” Additionally, a 2020 review published in Physical Exercise for Human Health notes that exercise can positively impact insulin sensitivity, blood pressure and A1C levels.
If physical activity is not part of your regular routine, begin with small and realistic steps. Walking is a great way to start and one of the best exercises for people living with prediabetes and diabetes.
The Bottom Line
Having type 2 diabetes or prediabetes has been proven to increase the risk for cognitive decline later in life, but certain healthy habits can act like a “helmet” to protect your mind and its abilities.
Beyond these top five tips, other chronic disease risk-reducers like managing stress, stopping smoking (if you currently smoke) and keeping your alcohol consumption moderate can also help ameliorate the ancillary impacts of prediabetes and diabetes, Licalzi says. An overall healthy lifestyle can support your brain and body—and help you live sharper longer.

GAMA Is Onboarding Crew Members For Its Space-Themed Metaverse | Bitcoinist.com – Bitcoinist https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/gama-is-onboarding-crew-members-for-its-space-themed-metaverse-bitcoinist-com-bitcoinist/
Los Angeles, September 19 – GAMA has launched its metaverse, the GAMA Space Station (GSS). The project, which is focused on interoperability, is opening its doors to other communities in the blockchain and web3 ecosystem. This initiative has already begun with the recent announcement with members of the CloneX community, who have shown off their NFT characters inside the GSS.
We are not alone in the universe
GAMA is the Web3 project behind the GSS metaverse. The project is focused on delivering an immersive virtual experience. As such, the GSS plans on featuring innovative game mechanics along with an immersive social ecosystem, which combines to create a realistic experience that aims to set the standard for metaverse projects.
This is accomplished with Unreal Engine 5. This game engine allows GAMA to integrate high-end graphics and quality audio, lighting, and animations into the experience. This aligns with its goal to bring “innovative gaming mechanics that blend the digital world with reality.”
GAMA isn’t the only Web3 project out there. The blockchain ecosystem is full of platforms doing their own thing. Each tries to create a dedicated community and offer members unique experiences. And, while that has its benefits, it would be great if these platforms would regularly collaborate to create new experiences for users.
With this in mind, GAMA puts a special emphasis on interoperability in their metaverse. The goal is for people in other communities to experience the project’s immersive entertainment experiences.
“We are not alone. Interoperability is a key factor in the Metaverse. We know we are not alone in the universe & welcome more communities to join our mission aboard the GSS.”
The first beneficiary of this initiative is the CloneX NFT community. Through the collaboration, CloneX NFT owners can see their characters in the GAMA metaverse and will soon be able to freely experience the metaverse with their characters brought to life.
Recently, one CloneX owner even incorporated an image of his GSS CloneX as an album cover art.
Merging worlds
While GAMA’s focus is on providing an incredible metaverse experience, the project has also realized the value of physical, real-world offerings. Thus, it strives to include a unique user experience through GAMA Studios via graphic storytelling formats represented through both digital and physical collectibles.
GAMA’s NFTs give holders access to real-world events where they can interact with each other in person. This deepens the sense of community and belonging in the GAMA metaverse.
About GAMA
GAMA is a Web3 platform that is building a new form of entertainment through its metaverse. In addition to providing an exclusive experience for its own community, GAMA is applying a universal standard by offering the experience to other NFT communities as well.
GAMA NFTs are the core of its GSS Metaverse narrative, each one representing a crew member that is traveling to space to harness alternative forms of energy. GAMA recently teased its first playable game, Dark Horizon, which will be the first extension to its metaverse.

Optimism’s team will also join the Coinbase and Ethereum Foundation teams to facilitate the EIP-4844 upgrade.
Coinbase is dedicating its engineering resources and EIP-4844 testing to boost crypto adoption.
On October 7, 2022, Coinbase issued an official statement saying it has chosen to support and contribute to the upcoming EIP-4844 upgrade. The upgrade will enhance layer-2 roll-ups, reducing transaction costs by up to 100 times and increasing transaction throughput. In his remarks via Twitter, Coinbase CEO, Brian Armstrong, said that the crypto exchange is proud to contribute to the Ethereum ecosystem.
Proud of this contribution to Ethereum ecosystem. We have a small team working on proto-danksharding, which promises to create 100X capacity on roll ups.
Scalability will unlock many new use cases in crypto. https://t.co/JG8hJ5gDHL
— Brian Armstrong (@brian_armstrong) October 7, 2022
He added that the company has a team developing a proto-danksharding to boost roll-ups’ capacity by up to 100 times. He also said the scalability would result in several new use cases in the crypto space. The popular exchange believes that the EIP-4844 upgrade will attract more customers into the crypto sector since the industry would be more secure, simpler to use, and with fast and less expensive transactions.
In addition, it will bring institutional developments and adoption into Web3. Apart from the Ethereum foundation team, Coinbase is also collaborating with the team from layer-2 blockchain, Optimism. This will hasten the completion of the EIP-4844 upgrade.
The crypto exchange has a team focused solely on completing and testing the EIP-4844 upgrade. The combined group has detailed specifications regarding launched Devnet v1, execution and consensus clients, Prysm and Geth, releases for the Ethereum clients, and preparations for the KZG ceremony.
The upgrade makes transaction costs cheaper by using a new transaction type to Ethereum to accept data “blobs” in the beacon node for a brief period. It minimizes disk usage and is forward-compatible. It is worth noting that any interested persons or entities, including an exchange or a roll-up, can support or contribute to the upgrade for the upcoming “Surge” development.
The Merge and Ethereum price
The EIP-4844 upgrade will result in more institutional and retail adoption. Thus, causing a jump in Ethereum’s price. The wider community, particularly businesses, will benefit from a faster transaction speed and less expensive transaction fees. Furthermore, using layer-2 roll-ups to manage large transaction volumes is an effective approach.
Ethereum’s price has been moving sideways since the beginning of the month and currently trades at $1,330. It is down 1.78 percent in the last 24 hours, according to our data.
Data from on-chain analytics firm, CryptoQuant, claims that Ethereum whales (large volume Ethereum holders) have been engaging in various exchange activities to manipulate Ethereum’s price. CryptoQuant explained that these whales moved huge volumes of their ETH tokens to exchanges to cause a spike in the token’s price.

Then, they sold these tokens at these hiked prices. The on-chain analytics firm stated that Ethereum’s price rose sharply following a rise in the token’s balances on exchanges.
Usually, an increase in the volume of Ethereum or any other token on exchanges results in a decline in their price. Hence, CryptoQuant alleges that Ethereum whales must have been involved in causing a rise in Ethereum’s price after moving their Ethereum tokens to exchanges. Then, make huge profits by selling off the tokens at higher prices.

Taiwan Signals Its Chip Firms Will Follow New U.S. Rules On China – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/taiwan-signals-its-chip-firms-will-follow-new-u-s-rules-on-china-reuters/
TAIPEI, Oct 8 (Reuters) – Taiwanese semiconductor companies attach “great importance” to complying with the law, the island’s government said on Saturday, signalling they would comply with new U.S. export controls that aim to hobble China’s chip industry.
The rules announced Friday by President Joe Biden’s administration include a measure to cut China off from certain chips made anywhere in the world with U.S. equipment, vastly expanding its reach in its bid to slow Beijing’s technological and military advances.
Taiwan, a major chip producer, is home to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) (2330.TW), the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a major supplier to companies including Apple Inc (AAPL.O).

In a statement in response to the U.S. announcement, Taiwan’s Economy Ministry said Taiwanese firms were law-abiding.
“Taiwan’s semiconductor industry has long served global customers and attaches great importance to compliance with laws,” it said.
“In addition to complying with domestic laws and regulations, it will also cooperate with the needs of international customers who place orders and the norms of customers in their countries.”
Taiwan’s semiconductor industry is a technological leader and continues to “maintain an advantage in the competition for international orders”, the ministry said.
The government continues to maintain close contact with manufacturers and supports them in investing in factory expansion and supplying products to the world for technological development, the ministry said.
TSMC declined to comment on the U.S. rules, saying it was in its quiet period ahead of quarterly earnings next week. Smaller competitor United Microelectronics Corp (2303.TW) also declined comment ahead of its earnings release later this month.
Taiwan has its own concerns about China, especially efforts by Chinese companies to poach chip talent and technical know-how. The government tightly restricts Taiwanese chip investment in China, the island’s largest trading partner.
Taiwan’s worries have gained pace as China mounts regular military drills near the island in an attempt to force it into accepting Beijing’s sovereignty.
The United States is Taiwan’s most important international supporter and arms supplier, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties.
Taiwan Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua will visit the United States next week to respond to what her office called “concerns” about supply chains and geopolitical issues. She will visit U.S. tech firms that are major customers of Taiwanese semiconductor companies.

Russia Says Truck Bomb Damages Bridge To Crimea 69News WFMZ-TV
Russia Says Truck Bomb Damages Bridge To Crimea – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/russia-says-truck-bomb-damages-bridge-to-crimea-69news-wfmz-tv/
KHARKIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian authorities said that a truck bomb on Saturday caused a fire and the collapse of a section of a bridge linking Russia-annexed Crimea with Russia — a key supply artery for Moscow’s faltering war effort in southern Ukraine.
The attack on the bridge comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin turned 70, dealing him a humiliating blow that could lead him to up the ante in his war on Ukraine.
Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said that the truck bomb caused seven railway cars carrying fuel to catch fire, resulting in a “partial collapse of two sections of the bridge.” The committee didn’t immediately apportion blame.
The Crimean Peninsula holds symbolic value for Russia and is key to sustaining its military operations in the south. If the bridge is made inoperable, it would make it significantly more challenging to ferry supplies to the peninsula. While Russia seized the areas north of Crimea early during the invasion and built a land corridor to it along the Sea of Azov, Ukraine is pressing a counteroffensive to reclaim them.
The bridge has train and automobile sections. Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee specified that the explosion and fire led to the collapse of the two sections of one of the two links of the automobile bridge, while another link was intact.
Authorities have suspended commuter train traffic across the bridge until further notice. Putin was informed about the explosion and he ordered the creation of a government panel to deal with the emergency.
The 19-kilometer (12-mile) bridge across the Kerch Strait linking the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is the longest in Europe. It has provided an essential link to the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge.
Russia opened the first part of the span to car traffic in May 2018. The parallel bridge for rail traffic opened the following year.
The $3.6 billion project is a tangible symbol of Moscow’s claims on Crimea. It was Russia’s only land link to the peninsula until Russian forces seized more Ukrainian territory on the northern end of the Sea of Azov in heavy fighting, particularly around the city of Mariupol, earlier this year.
In August, Russia suffered a series of explosions at an airbase and munitions depot in Crimea, which underlined its vulnerability.
The truck bomb on the bridge occurred hours after explosions rocked the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv early Saturday, sending towering plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering a series of secondary explosions.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram that the early-morning explosions were the result of missile strikes in the center of the city. He said that the blasts sparked fires at one of the city’s medical institutions and a nonresidential building. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The blasts came hours after Russia concentrated attacks in its increasingly troubled invasion of Ukraine on areas it illegally annexed, while the death toll from earlier missile strikes on apartment buildings in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia rose to 14.
On Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to human rights organizations in his Russia and Ukraine, and to an activist jailed in Belarus, an ally of Moscow.
Berit Reiss-Andersen, the committee’s chair, said the honor went to “three outstanding champions of human rights, democracy and peaceful coexistence,” though it was widely seen as a rebuke to Putin and his conduct of Europe’s worst armed conflict since World War II.
Putin signed documents on Wednesday to illegally claim four regions of Ukraine as Russian territory, including the Zaporizhzhia region that is home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, whose reactors were shut down last month.
That move was foreshadowed by Russia’s annexation of Crimea in March 2014, which was carried out after Moscow alleged residents of the peninsula had voted to join with Russia. That move was widely condemned, and prompted sanctions from the U.S. and the European Union.

Research shows people who look on the bright side are more likely to live longer.
Your outlook on life could be the reason you live long. A recent study shows that optimistic women are more likely to make it past 90 years, regardless of racial and ethnic background. The research supports previous studies linking optimism to long life.
Brighter side, brighter life
The research by a team from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health looked at data collected from some 160,000 racially and ethically diverse, postmenopausal women.
People of an upbeat disposition have previously been found to have a lower risk of heart conditions and premature death. Researchers now say it could also play a role in living a long life. The participants were between ages 50 and 79 and the data was collected over a 26-year period.
The researchers found that the 25% most optimistic participants were likely to live up to 5.4% longer and were 10% more likely to live beyond 90 than the least optimistic quarter participants, according to Today.com. The study, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found no significant change in the results regardless of demographic, chronic conditions and depression.
Lifestyle factors, such as regular exercise and healthy eating, accounted for less than a quarter of the optimism-lifespan association, indicating that other factors may be at play.

Environmental factors
However, this study is not encouraging you to bury your head in the sand when things get tough. According to Newsweek, the idea is to reframe difficult situations to find potential solutions while maintaining a sense of hope for the future. Speaking to the news outlet, one of the researchers at Harvard University, Hayami Koga said environmental factors are equally important in shaping your outlook.
Heritability studies have found optimism to be a little more than 25 percent genetic. Factors such as childhood environment, education, financial stability. There are a number of ways in which psychological factors can influence physical health.
Research suggested people who are more optimistic might also lead a healthier lifestyle.

What is there to be said about Saturday’s meeting between No. 1 Alabama and Texas A&M that Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher didn’t say over the offseason?
Though neither coach will admit it, there’s bad blood between the Crimson Tide and Aggies after Saban publicly accused his former offensive coordinator of using an NIL collective to buy the top-ranked recruiting class in the country. Fisher responded with an impromptu news conference the following day to blast his former boss in a way that few have.
Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs — fresh off a 206-yard game against Arkansas — told reporters this week his teammates “feel some kind of way about” Saturday’s game. Linebacker Will Anderson Jr. told reporters at SEC Media Days this offseason that “everything will be addressed” when the Crimson Tide take the field vs. the Aggies.

It certainly doesn’t help matters that Alabama is coming off a 41-38 loss to the Aggies in 2021, a game in which the Crimson Tide were favored by 18 points. With that loss, Fisher became the first Saban disciple to beat him.
If Alabama wants to exact revenge, it may have to do so without defending Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at quarterback; he suffered a sprained shoulder in the win vs. Arkansas and, though his injury is not considered serious, he could miss this week’s game. If he does, Jalen Milroe will be called into action once again after holding Arkansas off in a 49-24 win.
Texas A&M has quarterback instability of its own. Starter Max Johnson hurt the thumb on his throwing hand in last week’s loss to Mississippi State, and ESPN reported Thursday that the LSU transfer has a broken bone and could miss the rest of the season. Haynes King — whom Johnson replaced as the starter three weeks ago — will take over for the Aggies.

Now You Can Experience The World’s Tallest Building In The Metaverse – NFTgators https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/now-you-can-experience-the-worlds-tallest-building-in-the-metaverse-nftgators/
Quick take:
The world’s tallest building now has a digital twin in the metaverse.
Dubai’s Burj Khalifa joins a growing list of iconic buildings and city centres jumping on the metaverse train.
People will be able to move around the building and enjoy a 360-degree view of Dubai.
You can now experience the tallest building in the metaverse. Burj Khalifa has jumped on the metaverse bandwagon with a digital twin of itself that will allow people to move around and enjoy a 360-degree view of Dubai.
It joins a growing list of iconic buildings, monuments and city centres that have created 3D versions of themselves in the metaverse. The metaverse is generally described as a 3D virtual space where people can interact with each other through gaming, virtual events and other immersive experiences.
For instance, New York’s Times Square building is already being replicated in The Sandbox metaverse, while South Korea’s biggest cities Seoul, Busan and now Changwon have created digital versions of themselves in the metaverse.
The concept of having twin structures (one in the metaverse and another in the physical world) has become such a trend that Jamestown decided to create a physical replica of the Decentraland-based One Times Square building. Jamestown invested $500 million in May to redevelop One Times Square with virtual and augmented reality installations.
Last month Dropp Group acquired metaverse platform Phly for $25 million to create the world’s first ‘phygital’ metaverse. According to the announcement, Dropp Group wants to help real estate companies recreate digital twins of their properties in the metaverse.
The company is also on a mission to create an immersive replica of every major city, building and monument in the metaverse.
Burj Khalifa visitors will be able to experience the digital version without wearing any 3D devices like virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) headsets. The project is spearheaded by virtual events company Eventcombo.
Commenting on the announcement, Eventcombo said: “While the pandemic forced the world into isolation, it also led to the advancement and accelerated adoption of the metaverse. Although digital has become the new normal, the metaverse is facilitating physical and real-world-like interactions in digital spaces, to elevate experiences and bridge the real and virtual worlds.”
The company shared a short video showing virtual avatars walking around different areas of the building in an attempt to demonstrate the experience to prospective visitors.

The 4 Best Robot Vacuums For High-Pile Carpet Bustle
The 4 Best Robot Vacuums For High-Pile Carpet – Bustle https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-4-best-robot-vacuums-for-high-pile-carpet-bustle/
Robot vacuums are an enticing gadget for anyone who doesn’t have the time or energy to regularly vacuum their home the old-fashioned way. Some models can be a bit fussy about vacuuming on particularly thick carpets, but the best robot vacuums for high-pile carpet tackle the problem with an effective brush roll. Other features like home mapping, HEPA filters, self-emptying dust bins, and mop settings can also make a device better at meeting your specific cleaning needs. Just keep in mind that the overall best vacuums for thick carpets are generally canister and upright models — but there are still some excellent robot vacuum options available if you’re in search of a more hands-off approach for routine cleaning.
How To Choose A Robot Vacuum For High-Pile Carpet
Robot vacuums all roughly have the same basic function, with variation in materials, tech features, and cleaning specifics that may make one model more suited for your lifestyle over another.
Brush rolls surface dirt trapped in carpet in order to effectively vacuum it up, so it’s essential that the robot vacuum you pick for high-pile carpet is equipped with one. They come in many materials, but ones made of rubber or silicone rather than traditional bristles to prevent hair from tangling, and are often a good choice for pet owners. Some brush rolls are also self-cleaning, helping to ensure you don’t need to detangle them yourself.
All of the included vacuums on this list connect to apps, but some of them have the additional ability to map your home so you can stipulate exactly where you want — and don’t want — them to clean. This is a great feature to look for if you keep particular office hours when you need absolute quiet, have a playroom that’s often covered in toys which might get in the vacuum’s way, or imagine any other scenarios where you’ll want to be careful about where the vacuum roams. Vacuums that aren’t able to map your home can be assisted by boundary strips — magnetic tape which tells the vacuum not to enter an area. The strips are sold separately and correlate to specific brands.
According to the EPA, HEPA filters are certified to remove 99.7% of dust, pollen, and other airborne particles, so if you’re particularly concerned with air quality or minimizing potential allergens, consider opting for a robot vacuum with this kind of filter.
Self-emptying robot vacuums deposit the waste they pickup into their dock whenever they return to charge. Since these bins are larger than the one inside the vacuum, it alleviates the need to empty the vacuum often. Instead, you’ll only have to empty the dock every month or so.
Some robot vacuums double as robot mops. While you won’t want this feature for use on carpets, if you’re looking for an all-purpose cleaning gadget you can use on any floor surface to great effect, you may want to get one that does double duty.

In a hurry? These are the best robot vacuums for high-pile carpet:
A Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum With A Self-Cleaning Brush Roll: Shark RV1001AE IQ Robot Self-Empty XL
A Robot Vacuum With Rubber Brush Rolls: iRobot Roomba i3 EVO Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum
A Budget-Friendly Robot Vacuum With A Silicone Brush Roll: yeedi k650 Wi-Fi Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
A Combination Robot Vacuum & Mop: yeedi Vac Station Robot Vacuum And Mop
Here are some of the best robot vacuums for high-pile carpet, which reviewers confirm take down dirt on even their shaggiest rugs.
1. A Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum With A Self-Cleaning Brush Roll
Pros:
Brush roll self-cleans to avoid hair tangles
Self-empties the dust bin into the dock
Cons:
Requires boundary tape to avoid some obstacles
Shark’s self-emptying robot vacuum makes cleaning even easier, thanks to its ability to dock and deposit the debris all on its own. The dock holds about 45 days’ worth of dirt before needing to be emptied. While made with traditional bristles, its brush roll is conveniently self-cleaning for ease of maintenance. The vac is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, and you can also map your home within its app and select which specific rooms you’d like to be cleaned at any time. However, if you’d like it to avoid any very specific areas, you will need to use boundary tape so it knows where not to clean. The tape is sold separately. The vac uses a non-washable paper filter.
Brush roll: Self-cleaning bristles | Home mapping: Yes | HEPA filter: No | Self-emptying: Yes | Mop feature: No
One reviewer wrote: “The shark IQ works great. It learned our large floor layout after 2-3 runs. It cleans hardwood floors, low carpets and high-pile, shag-type carpets. Lines are uniform and even. It gets under chairs and furniture, and hits all the corners too. When it runs out of charge, it docks, recharges and resumes until it’s completed the entire floor area. At first, it got stuck in a few places such as behind furniture and in the powder room, but we placed the blocking strips for future runs.”
2. A Robot Vacuum With Dual Rubber Brush Rolls
Pros:
Rubber brushes excel at picking up hair without tangling
Provides suggestions for best cleaning
Cons:
Brush rolls require occasional replacement
The iRobot Roomba i3 EVO has not just one, but two rubber brush rolls, making it a particularly good choice for pet owners whose carpets need frequent upkeep. The vacuum self-adjusts its height when working on different flooring types, so it’ll be a smart pick if your space has both high-pile carpets and wood or tile. It uses high-efficiency paper filters, features home mapping in its app, and is compatible with Google Home and Alexa. But its coolest feature might be its ability to make cleaning suggestions based both on your past vacuuming sessions as well as the time of year when allergens may be more present. Reviewers have noted that its brush rolls need occasional replacement.
Brush roll: 2 rubber brushes | Home mapping: Yes | HEPA filter: No | Self-emptying: No | Mop feature: No
One reviewer wrote: “I receive the i3 As a Christmas present and I am completely impressed and Also a little embarrassed after seeing all the dirt that it can pick up especially since I own a Dyson animal which I always thought had done an awesome job. I have no complaints on my thick carpet, area rugs, or my hardwood floors. It really does a great job! I highly recommend it!”
3. A Budget-Friendly Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Pros:
Cheapest option on this list
Silicone brush roll prevents hair tangles
Cons:
Doesn’t have smart mapping
Requires boundary strips for areas you don’t want it to clean
This robot vacuum is slightly more budget-friendly than the other options on this list, and it has the essential features you need for an efficient clean without a ton of bells and whistles. It doesn’t feature home mapping, but it does have sensors to prevent collisions and falls, and you can lay down boundary tape to keep it away from certain spaces. While the Yeedi-specific tape is currently sold out, reviewers have had good results using this boundary tape instead. The vacuum is also compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa. It can clean for 130 minutes per charge and uses replaceable HEPA filters to keep allergens to a minimum.
Brush roll: Tangle-free silicone brush | Home mapping: No | HEPA filter: Yes | Self-emptying: No | Mop feature: No
One reviewer wrote: “I don’t write reviews very often, but this little powerhouse earned one. I didn’t expect much when I ordered this and I quickly fell in love with it. It is able to handle thick carpet with ease. I couldn’t believe all of the places it was able to clean and it gets all of the places that I skip. My house hasn’t looked this good in years. I’ve had it for a week now and use it every day. I loved it so much I bought a 2nd one for the 2nd floor. I can’t speak to its durability, but I’m impressed so far.”
4. A Combination Robot Vacuum & Mop
Pros:
Dual vacuum and mop functionality
Self-empties into a bagged dock
Uses a HEPA filter
Cons:
Uses a bristled brush roll that might not be suitable for pet hair
Looking for a robot cleaning gadget that works on all kinds of surfaces? This combination robot vacuum and mop is here to help. It’s designed to clean both hard surfaces and high-pile carpets alike on 200 minutes of runtime per charge. It adjusts its suction based on the surface it’s working on (with more suction on carpets) — and, of course, it knows not to use its mopping feature on carpets, thanks in part to the app’s home mapping feature. The vacuum is self-emptying, and its bagged dust collector only needs to be emptied every 30 days or so. It uses a HEPA sponge filter and washable mop pads.
One potential trade-off: Some reviewers have had trouble with the bristled brush roll tangling when faced with lots of hair, so it may not be the best choice for pet owners.
Brush roll: Traditional brush roll | Home mapping: Yes | HEPA filter: Yes | Self-emptying: Yes | Mop feature: Yes
One reviewer wrote: “The yeedi is by far the best vacuum/mop I’ve had! Members of my family have different brands of vacuums that don’t work as well and don’t have the mop feature. The yeedi is able to determine if needs to adjust its suction power for the different levels of carpet and you can determine how much water you want the mop to put out. When using the mop mode, it can tell where there is carpet and it will make sure not to go over that area. The final part I love of this machine is the ability to put boundaries on the map where you don’t want the machine to go. You don’t have to buy extra sensors to put in different areas of the house. Just pick the part of your map and place the boundary.”

Jim Cramer Says He Bought A Farm With Bitcoin Profits—And Dares You To Bet Against Him – Decrypt https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/jim-cramer-says-he-bought-a-farm-with-bitcoin-profits-and-dares-you-to-bet-against-him-decrypt/
CNBC’s Jim Cramer prodded his myriad online non-believers on Friday with a challenge: bet against him. He dares you.
Cramer bragged to Crypto Twitter that he’s divested from Bitcoin and Ethereum and bought a farm and boat with the spoils. He then coaxed doubters of his crypto market analyses to go all in on their anti-Cramer positions.
Soon, those doubters may be able to do precisely that.
As far as crypto, same: i bought a farm with my Bitcoin winnings, all announced, and i bought a boat with Ethereum. All announced. Everything disclosed. I WANT you to bet against me. You do not do this for 42 years and lose money evert year.
— Jim Cramer (@jimcramer) October 7, 2022
According to an SEC filing from earlier this week, Tuttle Capital Management has applied to launch two exchange-traded funds—the Inverse Cramer ETF (SJIM), and the Long Cramer ETF (LJIM)—that will put an investor’s funds towards the opposite of whatever the outspoken television personality advises on his CNBC program “Mad Money,” and via his Twitter account.
“The Fund is an actively managed exchange traded fund that seeks to achieve its investment objective by engaging in transactions designed to perform the opposite of the return of the investments recommended by television personality Jim Cramer (“Cramer”),” the SEC filing reads. “Under normal circumstances, at least 80% of the Fund’s investments is invested in the inverse of securities mentioned by Cramer.”
The history of the relationship between Cramer and Crypto Twitter is long and storied. Once an ardent crypto bull who stated it was “almost irresponsible” not to buy Bitcoin, Cramer had a 180-degree change of heart once crypto markets crashed earlier this year.
On Twitter, apparent patterns of Cramer’s financial advice backfiring perfectly led to the emergence of a parody account titled “Inverse Cramer ETF,” which would gloat whenever Cramer’s prognostications turned out to be precisely incorrect.
As Cramer developed increasing skepticism of crypto assets in the aftermath of May’s crypto crash, the television host began accumulating an ironic following on Crypto Twitter, with users jokingly—or maybe not—positing that so long as Cramer continued to bash crypto, there was hope for the market.
Cramer’s statement today may have been some form of acknowledgement of the lack of deference his financial advice is now generally granted online, and potentially, of his awareness of a prospective batch of publicly traded, anti-Cramer financial products.
As one Twitter user posited though, what “Inception”-level event would transpire if Cramer ever turned bullish on the Inverse Cramer?
What happens if Jim Cramer recommends the Inverse Jim Cramer ETF?

U.S. Aims To Hobble Chinas Chip Industry With Sweeping New Export Rules Reuters
U.S. Aims To Hobble China’s Chip Industry With Sweeping New Export Rules – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-aims-to-hobble-chinas-chip-industry-with-sweeping-new-export-rules-reuters/
Oct 7 (Reuters) – The Biden administration on Friday published a sweeping set of export controls, including a measure to cut China off from certain semiconductor chips made anywhere in the world with U.S. equipment, vastly expanding its reach in its bid to slow Beijing’s technological and military advances.
The rules, some of which go into effect immediately, build on restrictions sent in letters earlier this year to top toolmakers KLA Corp (KLAC.O), Lam Research Corp (LRCX.O) and Applied Materials Inc (AMAT.O), effectively requiring them to halt shipments of equipment to wholly Chinese-owned factories producing advanced logic chips.
The raft of measures could amount to the biggest shift in U.S. policy toward shipping technology to China since the 1990s. If effective, they could hobble China’s chip manufacturing industry by forcing American and foreign companies that use U.S. technology to cut off support for some of China’s leading factories and chip designers.

“This will set the Chinese back years,” said Jim Lewis, a technology and cybersecurity expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington D.C.-based think tank, who said the policies harken back to the tough regulations of the height of the Cold War.
“China isn’t going to give up on chipmaking … but this will really slow them (down).”
In a briefing with reporters on Thursday previewing the rules, senior government officials said many of the measures were aimed at preventing foreign firms from selling advanced chips to China or supplying Chinese firms with tools to make their own advanced chips. They conceded, however, that they had not secured any promises that allied nations would implement similar measures and that discussions with those nations are ongoing.
“We recognize that the unilateral controls we’re putting into place will lose effectiveness over time if other countries don’t join us,” one official said. “And we risk harming U.S. technology leadership if foreign competitors are not subject to similar controls.”
The expansion of U.S. powers to control exports to China of chips made with U.S. tools is based on a broadening of the so-called foreign direct product rule. It was previously expanded to give the U.S. government authority to control exports of chips made overseas to Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies Co Ltd (HWT.UL) and later to stop the flow of semiconductors to Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.
On Friday, the Biden administration applied the expanded restrictions to China’s IFLYTEK, Dahua Technology, and Megvii Technology, companies added to the entity list in 2019 over allegations they aided Beijing in the suppression of its Uyghur minority group.
The rules published on Friday also block shipments of a broad array of chips for use in Chinese supercomputing systems. The rules define a supercomputer as any system with more than 100 petaflops of computing power within a floor space of 6,400 square feet, a definition that two industry sources said could also hit some commercial data centers at Chinese tech giants.
Eric Sayers, a defense policy expert at the American Enterprise Institute, said the move reflects a new bid by the Biden administration to contain China’s advances instead of simply seeking to level the playing field.
“The scope of the rule and potential impacts are quite stunning but the devil will of course be in the details of implementation,” he added.
Companies around the world began to wrestle with the latest U.S. action, with shares of semiconductor manufacturing equipment makers falling.
The Semiconductor Industry Association, which represents chipmakers, said it was studying the regulations and urged the United States to “implement the rules in a targeted way – and in collaboration with international partners – to help level the playing field.”
Earlier on Friday, the United States added China’s top memory chipmaker YMTC and 30 other Chinese entities to a list of companies that U.S. officials cannot inspect, ratcheting up tensions with Beijing and starting a 60 day-clock that could trigger much tougher penalties. read more
Companies are added to the unverified list when U.S. authorities cannot complete on-site visits to determine if they can be trusted to receive sensitive U.S. technology, forcing U.S. suppliers to take greater care when shipping to them.
Under a new policy announced on Friday, if a government prevents U.S. officials from conducting site checks at companies placed on the unverified list, U.S. authorities will start the process for adding them to the entity list after 60 days.
Entity listing YMTC would escalate already-rising tensions with Beijing and force its U.S. suppliers to seek difficult-to-obtain licenses from the U.S. government before shipping them even the most low-tech items.
The new regulations will also severely restrict export of U.S. equipment to Chinese memory chip makers and formalize letters sent to Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) (AMD.O) restricting shipments to China of chips used in supercomputing systems that nations around the world rely on to develop nuclear weapons and other military technologies.
Reuters was first to report key details of the new restrictions on memory chip makers, including a reprieve for foreign companies operating in China and the moves to broaden restrictions on shipments to China of technologies from KLA, Lam, Applied Materials, Nvidia and AMD.
South Korea’s industry ministry said in a statement on Saturday that there will be no significant disruption to equipment supply for Samsung (005930.KS) and SK Hynix’s (000660.KS) existing chip production in China, although it was necessary to minimise uncertainty through consultation with U.S. export control authorities.

Googles News Partnerships APAC Head: Committed To Responding To Needs Of Indian Publishers Challenging When Govt Is Involved The Indian Express
Google’s News Partnerships APAC Head: ‘Committed To Responding To Needs Of Indian Publishers… Challenging When Govt Is Involved’ – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/googles-news-partnerships-apac-head-committed-to-responding-to-needs-of-indian-publishers-challenging-when-govt-is-involved-the-indian-express/
Kate Beddoe, director of Google’s News Partnerships in APAC, believes India is a market where Google can have a very strong impact on ensuring access to quality information through a sustainable and growing business of news. She spoke with Nandagopal Rajan on how Google is engaging with publishers, updating the product to cater to the needs of readers, and balancing the many forces at play in the space of news. Edited excerpts from a video interview.
As you engage with publishers, what is your North Star goal? What is it that you finally want to achieve? Is it improving the visibility of the publishers, is it improving your ad business?
Kate Beddoe: As a former journalist, and as somebody who has spent an entire career in the news industry, the thing that is most important to me is that we find the right balance of how can I help quality news reach an audience in a meaningful way. But in order to do that, how do we find the business models that will allow that quality content to exist and reach audiences? For me, the North Star is a balance in the relationship between users, technology and news organisations themselves, and finding a workable equilibrium on those three factors.
How important is it then to ensure you have a level playing field, because you have different types of publishers, some big, some small… and you have the technology also coming into the picture with the algorithm. How do you manage all of that, especially in times where news and the delivery of news, the access to news is so critical, especially in the democracies?
Kate Beddoe: There are a combination of things that we need to balance. I think on one hand there is the response to users and you know, what is it that they’re looking for, and how do we serve the needs they have. We have increasingly found that people are looking for very local-based news which is becoming increasingly important. We saw that during the pandemic as well. People didn’t want to discuss the pandemic in general, they wanted to know what was happening that was most relevant to them. And so, there is an element of user behaviour and we track very carefully what users want and need, and how they are expressing their preferences for content. There is a very strong sense that we get through the way that we send traffic to different news organisations, as to what content is best to answer the kinds of questions that people have.
But there is a whole journey that goes into making sure there are quality answers to questions that is everything from media literacy, and how critical people are about thinking about the content they are consuming and where it’s coming from. Instead of trusted sources, there’s somebody that writes with authority on this topic, through to the way that news organisations themselves are focusing on, you know, taking their beats to make sure they are accurate and fact-checked and then the signals that we can take from the interaction between those two things to make sure that we are elevating quality content, regardless of where it comes from. So we are very focused on making sure there are a diverse range of quality content voices that meet user needs in every country we are working with.
Google has been working on taking search out of search by serving content based on user preferences. Does that also come with the pitfalls of creating echo chambers for the readers?
Kate Beddoe: So we tend to talk about our products as query-based surfaces like search, and then query-less surfaces… Discover would be a great example of that and it is so strong in India. Google News would be another example of that. The question of balance and whether or not we are just reaffirming consumers’ behaviours and beliefs is something that we look at, and we think very carefully about. So one of the things that you will see in Google News, for example, is that when you see an article it will offer you more on this topic. And the more on this topic is deliberately designed to offer you a diverse perspective on the topic so that you are hearing from a range of different voices. That’s one example of the way we are trying to embed the sense of user curiosity and how can you go deeper on this from a broader perspective. I think that the challenge of affirming echo chambers is something that is probably much broader than just Google and something that we really are very keen to collaborate and work very constructively with the industry on.
Are you also working on new products like Showcase which maybe gives more control on what should be read compared to what people want to read?
Kate Beddoe: That’s an interesting challenge. There’s a lot I love about the Showcase product and the way that it helps to signal the kind of quality content through the 90 publishers that we have signed up for the programme in India. We have heard feedback for years around editors wanting to be able to use some of our space to identify what they think is important. I think there is always going to be a challenge with digital media, in that it is more measurable to see what consumers are actually interested in reading. I don’t think that anybody has yet cracked the challenge of getting people to read what they need to know, against what they want to know or what entertains them.
More broadly, we are moving into an environment where the competition for attention is something that we see universally. People can spend time reading very long form articles or they can spend a very short amount of time consuming a much more visually rich expression of the same information. We know that people are going to want to go to the more visually rich but shorter time spent consuming (information). That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the same value, but I think that there’s a lot of questions that we are very keen to work with the industry on how do we bring trust and authenticity to a group of readers who have a much shorter attention span than, perhaps, we are used to creating content for.
Of late Google has been surfacing a lot of the smaller publishers or websites often not from the mainstream. Is there a mechanism within Google to keep an eye on content that you end up surfacing?
Kate Beddoe: I’m not an algorithm expert. What I can say is that our way of surfacing content is relatively simplistic. Within search, we are looking at where a user is and what responses have we seen to other questions. It’s very rare that you get a question that’s never been asked before in search. And so we look at things like have other users clicked on this content… if they have clicked and if they bounce back and ask a slightly different question, we know that (content) hasn’t really answered their question. So what we are looking at is very much focused on the engagement and interaction that people are having with the small amount of content that surfaces on our platforms. Because we don’t host all of this content, we don’t have visibility into that in-depth version of it that, perhaps, other platforms where all the content is fully hosted would have. I’m dramatically oversimplifying what is, I’m sure, very complicated for all our engineers, but at the simplest level that’s what we’re attempting to do. There’s no question of how it plays through from a broader corporate perspective.
News is just 2% of what Google handles and in that sense it is pretty low down the hierarchy. But given the impact of that 2% on everything that we do, is it getting a little bit more headspace in the organisation as such?
Kate Beddoe: Definitely. I think when you look at organisations within Google, such as the partnerships work that I do, it is important to us that we have a very strong relationship and that we are fulfilling our need and desire to be elevating and showcasing quality content. And that’s because our product is better when there are better answers. If users came to Google and didn’t feel like they could trust the information they were getting in response to the questions they were asking, we would not be an effective product.
But it is also important to us that we’re working on the sustainability of the industry. And so as much as we run some amazing programmes where we are working with training, I think we have trained literally thousands of journalists through the News Lab and over 40,000 journalists have gone through our training around quality content. But we are similarly running programmes around advertising, where we have worked with over 300 publishers in India, or reader revenue where we are much more focused and you know and we are running programmes on digital transformation with 20 publishers. All of this is designed to make sure that the business of news is supporting the goal of that quality content.
India is a very different market with a lot more dependence on search for distribution of news and algorithm changes hence have a very significant impact on the business of news. Is that something that you are mindful of?
Kate Beddoe: We work a lot with news organisations to increase their specific presence so that direct entry is important. The thing that is important is that when it comes to the changes that we make in the way different content is shown, it is really about making sure that we are continuing to meet the needs of users, and that we are answering their questions.
I’ll give you a really specific example from about 18 months ago, when the pandemic hit. There was a working assumption that this was an international story for most people. And so what we were looking for was what is the most authoritative source of content at an international level for what was a story tha...

We knew we had booked the right girlfriends’ getaway as soon as we pulled into the driveway of Rowland House in Aurora, New York. At 10,000 square feet and with 10 rooms, the Queen Anne-style home felt both impressive and friendly. Cayuga Lake glistened in the background, and 120-year-old ginkgo trees crowned the lawn, their leaves the color of spun gold in the fall.
My friend, Barbara, and I felt we had dropped into a charmed storybook setting. Aurora, with a year-round population of fewer than 300, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On strolls through the village, we admired the grand 19th-century houses. Later on, we learned the remarkable story of the village’s picture-book prettiness.
We chose the Finger Lakes for our water, wineries, woods and walking vacation, basing ourselves on Cayuga Lake’s shores. One of the five Inns of Aurora, Rowland House satisfied our desire for a small property with big hotel services. A sister inn housed a restaurant, and a spa beckoned within a five-minute drive. Vineyards, hiking trails and waterfalls laced the region. Although we hadn’t booked early enough to get a massage, we walked by the spa’s cattail-ringed pond and along soybean fields edged with white, yellow and purple wildflowers, part of Aurora’s expansive landscape.
Another draw was Cayuga Lake, the longest of the Finger Lakes at more than 38 miles. We learned about Aurora’s storied residents on a wind-in-our-hair boat ride with Capt. Matt Bianconi, whose family has lived here for generations. Local entrepreneurs Edwin Barber Morgan and his brother, Henry, grew wealthy shipping agricultural and other products through Cayuga Lake to the nearby Erie Canal, which opened in 1825. From the 363-mile waterway stretching from Buffalo to New York, boats reached the Great Lakes and cruised down the Hudson River to New York City. Trade boomed.
In 1832, the Morgans met and became friends with Henry Wells, who later moved to Aurora. He became Cayuga Lake Railroad president and commissioned the lake’s first passenger steamboats. To lodge merchants, E.B. Morgan opened Aurora House, which later became the Aurora Inn, in 1833. Aurora Inn and Morgan’s grand 1858 Italianate-style mansion are two of the Inns of Aurora’s properties. Morgan was also an original investor in the New York Times.
Wells founded American Express and co-founded Wells Fargo to enable merchants to transport gold and cash safely between California and the East Coast. He also established Wells Seminary in 1868, renamed Wells College in 1870, with E.B. Morgan and other benefactors to educate women. The graduating class still rides stagecoaches through town to celebrate.
As a student at Wells, Pleasant Rowland fell in love with Aurora. She created the American Girl books and dolls series, later selling it to Mattel for $700 million. Starting in 2001, she invested more than $150 million in the village, burying power lines, opening inns and a market and lavishing the same attention to detail that propelled the success of American Girl to the village’s regeneration.
Driving past rolling fields and hillside wineries to restaurants and attractions was a gift to the eye. On the outdoor deck at Elderberry Pond Restaurant, a local gem serving its organically grown fruits and vegetables, we dined on excellent duck and crab cakes while listening to the breeze rustle the leaves of the maple trees. In fall, they turn a splendid burnt orange.
More than 100 wineries take root in the Finger Lakes. Of the 14 dotting Cayuga Lake, we toured two up the road in Union Springs. At Quarry Ridge’s hillside setting, we savored a dry rose and lake views from the winery’s covered porch. Next door, Heart & Hands Wine Co. has a small indoor tasting room and a table in a garden where we sampled rich pinot noir, riesling and chardonnay while learning about the wines and the lake’s microclimate that keeps the vineyards alive in winter.
Drawn by the chance to see the tallest free-falling waterfall in the Northeast, we hiked the gorge trail in Taughannock Falls State Park in Ulysses, about 50 miles from Aurora. As promised, the waterfall tumbled 215 feet down a vertical rock face. However, the recent drought reduced the cascade to a disappointing, hard-to-see trickle. Nonetheless, we liked walking between the 400-foot-high cliffs.
Each afternoon we came back to sit lakefront on Adirondack chairs, enjoying complimentary wine and cheese, and taking in the water views. Since the vast majority of the shoreline is privately owned, the lake feels pristine. Instead of crowds and numerous vessels, we heard only the occasional boat. We treasured the soothing lake views and the quiet.

Where Am I; Who Am I? | Journal-News – Martinsburg Journal https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/where-am-i-who-am-i-journal-news-martinsburg-journal/
Have you ever been the new kid at school? Do you remember what it was like those first days when you knew no one’s name or even how to find the bathroom? Now picture yourself around 70 years of age, having had a full and vital life. Maybe you raised a family, had a rewarding career, traveled the world. You volunteered with your local library, community food bank, or the fire department. And yet, one day, you find yourself the new kid on the block again, meeting a room full of people who, like you, may be confused, who wonder what’s happening, who want to know where the bathroom is. This is what many people with dementia experience when they enter a new environment.
Dementia is an umbrella term for a number of brain disorders that affect a person’s ability to think, act appropriately, or remember. According to agespace.org, “[T]here are over 400 types of dementia. However, most people diagnosed with dementia have one of 4 common types: Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.” Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. Current estimates are that about 5.8 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including 5.6 million aged 65 and older and about 200,000 under age 65 with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. (alz.org)
For many people living with Alzheimer’s, the decline is slow. Hardly noticed at first, and often referred to as “senior moments,” we forget where we put our glasses or our keys. We have trouble remembering names, even those of our family members. But then, we can’t remember how to use the microwave or, yes, even how to find the bathroom. Eventually, we may not remember who we are. Family and friends chalk up our oddities to getting older and often laugh at our behavior. Alzheimer’s is anything but a laughing matter.
Sadly for many people suffering from dementia and the toll it takes on them, their caregivers, and the health care system, some of their lifestyle choices could be the culprit. According to a study published in the medical journal American Academy of Neurology, eating large amounts of highly processed food may lead to a higher risk for certain types of dementia. Ultra-processed foods are notoriously high in added sugar, fat, and salt while low in protein and fiber. Ultra-processed foods include soft drinks, chips, chocolate, candy, ice cream, cereals, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, fries, sausage, lunch meat, and more. Alzheimers.net lists foods that are linked to increased rates of Alzheimer’s disease. That list includes processed cheese and processed meats, along with white foods, including pasta, cakes, white sugar, white rice, and white bread.
“Food determines the fate of our bodies—how we grow, how we age, and how we die. What we eat every day creates and re-creates both our cells and their supporting structures. What we fail to eat causes deficiencies that stress and traumatize the body. Though the brain comprises only 2 percent of the body by weight, it uses up to 25 percent of the body’s energy, and because food is energy, our brains are especially vulnerable to each nutritional choice we make.” (The Alzheimer’s Solution)
Therefore, since we are what we eat, let’s eat healthfully. Then maybe, just maybe, we’ll remember where our keys are, how to use the microwave, and, yes, where the bathroom is. We may also remember where and who we are. And, according to the authors of The Alzheimer’s Solution, there is definitely a different path for many patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s (and those not yet experiencing aspects of dementia) to follow than progressive decline. Their focus is on “lifestyle intervention as the cure for cognitive decline.” The authors state that there are “[direct] links…between poor nutrition, lack of exercise, chronic stress, poor sleep, the extent which we challenge and engage our brains and neurodegenerative disease.” In addition, they state, “…the choices we make every day determine our cognitive fate.”
We have seen how lifestyle changes have improved the lives of people at risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Now it’s time to focus on lifestyle changes for our brains. Further research into longevity unearthed five communities worldwide—referred to as Blue Zones—(Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece, and Loma Linda, California) where people consistently lived into healthy old age with residents reaching 100+. The common denominator in these communities was healthy eating, mostly plant based; regular exercise (no couch potatoes here); and a meaningful social life and purpose; among other attributes.
By creating a food plan focusing on plant-based foods, by increasing our time off our butts, and by engaging in socially acceptable connections with others (including companion animals), we may not only be saving our heart but also our brain. And who doesn’t want their brain to last as long as their heart?

Metaverse continues to disrupt every consumer-centric sector in the UAE and sports is no exception as two Dubai-based firms Limoverse and Metasportech jointly pledge to boost the sport metaverse in the nation.
Limoverse — the first ever complete health and wellness metaverse — stands with the mission to empower people to take charge of their health and well-being. Founded by Dr Sajeev Nair, serial entrepreneur, peak performance coach, and biohacker, and Adityanarayan, a start up entrepreneur, Limoverse is creating a global wellness and fitness ecosystem on blockchain using Web 3 protocol.
The platform connects health/wellness/fitness practitioners and institutions from around the world with wellness and fitness seekers. Limoverse provides an opportunity for its partner organisations to create B2C and B2B businesses through smart contracts supported by a BEP20 token called LIMO.
Prajeeth, Dr Sajeev Nair, Dr Sathya Menon and George Jayesh.
In addition, Limoverse is rolling out 5 different projects through which users are rewarded for various fitness-related activities. Limoverse app is available on playstore (waiting for approvals in iOS) and already has close to 75,000 downloads. The first project under Limovesre, called HealthFi is currently open to public, where one can earn LIMO tokens by walking, jogging, and running keeping the GPS active in the mobile app. One can enter this programme by purchasing a Sneaker NFT and the first drop of 500 NFTs got sold in 28 minutes.
Limoverse is in the process of integrating more than a hundred wearable brands to measure various health parameters so as to reward people for staying healthy. On its mission to empower people to stay fit, Limoverse identified the potential of sports, which is driven by communities and fans and an ideal domain for the web 3 model, as a community is the fabric of Web 3.0
Nair said: “It’s imperative to understand the GenZ is a tech-savvy community and lifestyle as a segment has to keep up with consumer demand. We found a tremendous potential that can be unlocked through sports which have gained maximum traction post-Covid.”
Limoverse recently joined hands with Metasportech, a DMCC registered metaverse company with having an exclusive interest in building a sports metaverse. The brand headed by CEO Dr Sathya Menon plans to create the world’s first ever exclusive Sports NFT marketplace and also a Sports Metaverse. Other founding partners of Metasportech are George Jayesh who is the CTO and Prajeeth, director of operations.
Metasportech has already started the work of the first ever Badminton Metaverse, which is expected to commission by February 2023. Metasportech has signed an agreement through its group company, Beyond Boundaries LLC, a sports management company based out of Dubai, to create NFTs and also Metaverse for Badminton Asia Championships which is a BWF Super 1000 event. For the first time ever, Badminton Asia Championships will be conducted in Dubai for the next 5 years.
Menon said: “Badminton has more than 900 million followers worldwide, out of which more than 700 million are from Asian countries. In UAE alone, the badminton fanbase is expected to be at 1.2 million.
Metasportech through the Badminton metaverse is targeting this huge follower base for creating a large global badminton community. This community will be able to play badminton with legendary players in the metaverse. They can buy different NFTs and also get trained by world-class players in the badminton metaverse. Moreover, as this becomes a part of Limoverse, they will have access to various health and wellness services and products and also get rewarded by participating in various fitness activities.”
The Badminton metaverse will be launched during the same time as the Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai, which is going to be the richest badminton tournament in the world. Over 900 million people involved in badminton across the world are expected to watch the forthcoming mega championship event in Dubai.

With autumn blues kicking in and days getting shorter every week, most of us are spending more time wrapped in a blanket sipping on a hot chocolate. We also have more time on our hands to sort things out at home, from cupboards to bathroom drawers.
So in order to give us a little inspirational boost, we are taking a look at people’s organizing skills that would make Marie Kondo proud. From closet makeovers to DIY racks, to neat work stations and mall stands that shine bright in their perfect orderliness.
Thanks to this awesome Reddit community, we have a lot of great examples to entertain our inner neat freaks! Scroll down below and upvote your favorite ones as you go!
The worldwide pandemic has not just put a pause on our lives, it made us reevaluate our values and what we want from life as a whole. By spending more time in the comfort of our homes, we had a chance to sit back and reflect on the environment that we spend so much time in.
Many of us started wondering if we are truly happy with the way our home looks and whether we are satisfied with the way it makes us feel. The boom of renovations, remodeling, home DIY projects, and redesigns followed as we rolled up our sleeves and worked on the home projects we never thought we wanted or needed before.
Now that the pandemic is over, the tendency to better take care of ourselves and our homes is not going anywhere. Partly because, for many workers, their homes have also turned into their permanent offices. And partly because, after trying out working around the home, people realized how much fun it is.
Redditor Hansottowirtz is one of the people who eagerly took up a DIY project to organize his home. “I like cooking, 3D printing and foreign cuisines and tastes, so this seemed like a good opportunity to learn about all of those at once,” he told Bored Panda.
The result was this spice rack he designed using old botanical books and a 3D printer as shared on this Reddit community. Hansottowirtz said that the idea came after he felt that most spice racks he found online weren’t special enough.
The first step of the process for Hansottowirtz was taking a very good look at the images. “I started with the botanical drawings from Wikipedia but quickly found out that there are many hard-to-find old botanical books with beautiful drawings. All the sources are listed on Github.”
Most of the hours were spent on searching the right plants in those books, then cutting them out using Photoshop and lastly, creating a label for them, the Redditor told us. “Next to that, I designed the rack in Fusion 360 and did many test prints before arriving at the current design.”
Although Hansottowirtz is very happy with the result he came up with, he agrees that there are multiple things that can be improved. “The fit of the jars on the rack is not very stable and the Ikea jars let UV light through, which degrades the spices faster,” he noted and added that the same jars “don’t have a perfect seal.”
Moreover, “the printing quality of the labels isn’t good enough as I printed them on the office printer. I’m looking into professional printing now and might start selling them on Etsy soon,” Hansottowirtz added.
Before Hansottowirtz designed this rack, he said that he didn’t know a lot about spices. “I’ve learned so much while doing the research. If you don’t know everything beforehand, try to learn things along the way, and you’ll always enjoy the process better.”
Bankrupt Celsius Court Documents Reveal Customer Details – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bankrupt-celsius-court-documents-reveal-customer-details-cryptonews/
In another installment of the legal woes of bankrupt crypto lender Celsius Network, court documents submitted as part of the case have been released for public access along with the personal data of thousands of the company’s customers.
The court filing allows anyone to access more than 14,500 pages of information that relates to the financial dealings of Alex Mashinsky, Dan Leon and Nuke Goldstein, the platform’s co-founders, but also the names, wallet IDs, and crypto transactions data of those who had invested their funds with Celsius Network.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Mashinsky, who quit as the company’s CEO in late September, withdrew some $10 million from the now-bankrupt cryptocurrency lender weeks before the business moved to freeze its customers’ accounts on June 12 and shut down its operations. The following month, Celsius Network filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, leaving behind about $1.2 billion in debts.
The company’s lawyers have motioned the court to redact the personal information of its users, but the request was denied.
Meanwhile, the latest development has triggered a predominantly negative response to the leak across crypto-focused social media. However, some industry observers took a different approach to the issue.
“Customers were lending money to Celcius—not depositing it. Therefore they are creditors who must be listed in the filing,” tweeted user Cliff Van Buren.
“They didn’t make it clear at all. In fact, quite the opposite. They used the word ‘deposit’ in all marketing campaigns. The word ‘lend’ never made an appearance,” user JamSalad offered a different opinion.
The lender’s assets are to be auctioned this month, with the final bid deadline set for October 17. A filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court states that, if necessary, the auction will take place on October 20. The cure and sale objection deadlines are scheduled for October 25.

North Korea Says Missile Tests Self-Defence Against U.S. Military Threats -KCNA – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/north-korea-says-missile-tests-self-defence-against-u-s-military-threats-kcna-reuters/
SEOUL, Oct 8 (Reuters) – North Korea said on Saturday its missile tests are for self-defence against direct U.S. military threats and they have not harmed the safety of neighbouring countries and regions.
North Korea carried out six missile launches in 12 days as of this week, including launching an intermediate-range missile over Japan on Tuesday.
“Our missile tests are a normal, planned self-defence measure to protect our country’s security and regional peace from direct U.S. military threats,” said state media KCNA, citing an aviation administration spokesperson.

The missile tests “did not pose any threat or harm to the safety of civil aviation as well as the safety of neighbouring countries and regions, by a full consideration of civil aviation safety in advance.”
The message was in response to the International Civil Aviation Organization Council condemning North Korea’s missile launches for posing a serious safety risk to international civil aviation, KCNA said.
North Korea’s defence ministry was “taking a stern look at the development of the current situation, which is very worrisome,” regarding U.S.-South Korean drills involving the nuclear-powered U.S. aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, KCNA said in a separate statement.
The United States and South Korea held joint maritime exercises on Friday, a day after Seoul scrambled fighter jets in reaction to an apparent North Korean bombing drill.
The United States also announced new sanctions on Friday in response to North Korea’s latest missile launches.

North Little Rock Felon Sentenced To 15 Years For Abuse Of Corpse, Failure To Report To Authorities – Arkansas Online https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/north-little-rock-felon-sentenced-to-15-years-for-abuse-of-corpse-failure-to-report-to-authorities-arkansas-online/
A 51-year-old child molester in North Little Rock has accepted a 15-year prison sentence for failing to tell authorities where he was living and disclose the death of his wife of 18 months.
Sentencing papers filed on Monday show Troy Douglas Hatfield pleaded guilty in Pulaski County Circuit Court to abuse of a corpse and failure to register, charges that together carry up to 45 years in prison for repeat offenders like Hatfield who have more than four felony convictions.
Details of the sex offense were not available but Hatfield has been required to register his home address with authorities since October 2009.
Required to report to North Little Rock police every six months, Hatfield failed to show up in October 2020, and police couldn’t find him at his listed residence, 823 W. 45th St., during a November 2020 visit.
About a week later, the landlord looking to collect unpaid rent went into the residence, telling investigators he had not been able to reach Hatfield for at least seven months.
In the bedroom, he found Hatfield bleeding heavily from an injury to his left arm. The man called for help, and police arrived to find Hatfield in bed, with a deep cut to his left arm and holding a straight razor in his right hand.
Hatfield told officers he wanted to kill himself and that his only family was his wife as he patted the blankets in bed next to him. Officers had to forcibly take the razor from him.
Police lifted the sheets and found the decaying remains of Jessica Hatfield, formerly Jessica Machelle Anderson. She “just died,” Troy Hatfield said, telling police he had not harmed her. There was also a note on the blankets stating that Jessica Hatfield had died in September 2020, about two months earlier.
Authorities were unable to determine how she died. Records show the couple married in May 2019. Hatfield was arrested about six months later and has been jailed ever since. This will be his third prison incarceration.
In July 2015, Hatfield was sentenced to his second prison term — a two-year sentence — after pleading guilty in Benton County for failure to register. Court records show Hatfield had been living in Lowell but cut off his ankle monitor, which he had been required to wear for drunken driving, and left town. He had not registered in four months.
Court records show that Hatfield pleaded guilty in Washington County in October 2009 to separate instances of second-degree sexual assault of a child, failure to appear, commercial burglary and theft in exchange for a sentence of 18 years in prison with another 22 years suspended.

Man On Vacation In St. Louis Gets Kia Stolen, Towing Company Sees 5 Kia/Hyundai Cars Stolen Per Day – KMOV4 https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/man-on-vacation-in-st-louis-gets-kia-stolen-towing-company-sees-5-kia-hyundai-cars-stolen-per-day-kmov4/
ST. LOUIS (KMOV) — Justin Carson drove eight hours to visit St. Louis only to get his car stolen on Miami Street in South City. Now he is forced to travel back home to Atlanta without his Kia Optima.
“There was just a pile of glass in the spot that my car was parked but no car,” says Carson. “I’ve never dealt with a car break-in, a smashed window, my car being stolen anywhere else but here in St. Louis.”
Car thefts have doubled in the city this year. The mayor’s office says Hyundai and Kia automakers are responsible.
Hartmann’s Auto Center is working around the clock to pick up what’s left of these vehicles.
“Our drivers probably get about five of these things a day. Just Kias and Hyundais getting stolen,” says tow truck driver Mark Hartmann.
He unloaded a stolen Kia Thursday. The back window was busted out and abandoned.
“Another stolen recovery we got,” he says. “It’s good for business but it’s bad for a lot of things. Customers are out of their car for weeks.”
According to the mayor’s office, about 350 Kias and Hyundais were stolen in August alone and there have been more than 1,500 theft reports filed since January.
There are plans to sue the automakers for the rise in grand theft auto crimes in St. Louis City.
Carson said he will never purchase a Kia vehicle again.
“Kia let us down as far as really getting behind this and helping us find a solution,” he says.
Police are urging Hyundai and Kia drivers to lock their steering wheels with a car club to prevent another vehicle theft.
