NYDIG Bets Big On Bitcoin – $720 Million Raised For Its Bitcoin Fund – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/nydig-bets-big-on-bitcoin-720-million-raised-for-its-bitcoin-fund-cryptonews/ Image Source: NYDIG NYDIG, the digital assets-focused subsidiary of financial services firm Stone Ridge, has raised approximately $720 million for its Institutional Bitcoin Fund.  According to a Form D filing made with the SEC, around 59 investors contributed more than $12 million on average to the raise. The filing however revealed that the SEC had not “necessarily” validated the accuracy and completeness of the filing.  NYDIG revealed in a press release following the filing that its Bitcoin balances have hit new a all-time high during Q3. Its holdings of Bitcoin grew “almost 100% year over year,” while revenue is up 130% through Q2.  The press release also announced a management shakeup at the company. NYDIG has promoted Tejas Shah and Nate Conrad to new roles of CEO and President respectively. The duo were previously NYDIG’s Global Head of Institutional Finance and Global Head of Payments, respectively.  The new officers are to lead the company in building on its current momentum with a focus on accelerating investment in crypto mining, custodial services, and Bitcoin Lightning Network integration. The release said:  “Building on this momentum, Shah and Conrad will focus on accelerating NYDIG’s investment in its industry-leading Mining Solutions franchise serving the largest North American miners and in its platform technology business, helping banks and non-bank enterprises utilize the Lightning Network for next-generation wallets and global payments.” The departing CEO, Robert Gutmann, and outgoing president, Yan Zhao, will remain at Stone Ridge Holdings Group, the parent company of NYDIG. NYDIG has been championing mainstream Bitcoin adoption  NYDIG, which describes itself as a Bitcoin company, has been one of the biggest champions of Bitcoin adoption by mainstream financial players. According to a Reuters report, NYDIG serves as the provider of institutional-grade Bitcoin custodial and fund management services to several banks that offer crypto investment to their clients including JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, and U.S. Bancorp.  Thanks to its other partnerships and funding rounds, NYDIG has become one of the biggest crypto custodians holding over $1 billion in crypto for its clients. The company reached a valuation of $1 billion last December.  Back in March, NYDIG saw its filing for a spot-settled Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) rejected by the SEC. The SEC has continued to refuse to approve a spot-settled Bitcoin ETF to be listed on regulated exchanges citing a lack of maturity of the crypto market.

US Marines Warn Against Navy’s FY24 Decommission Scheme – DefenseNews.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/us-marines-warn-against-navys-fy24-decommission-scheme-defensenews-com/ WASHINGTON — The U.S. Navy has spent more than four years repairing one of its amphibious ships, blowing past its budget by at least $99 million. Yet, the ship is still not ready to deploy. After pouring nearly $300 million into its repairs, the service says it would prefer to simply decommission the ship and move on. In fact, the Navy would like to decommission the nine other vessels in this class of amphibious dock landing ships, all of which need significant repairs. Some have more than a decade of planned service life left, but the Navy says it would rather spend its money on other capabilities than attempt to repair them. But the Navy isn’t the only stakeholder for these amphibious platforms. The Marine Corps relies on these ships to carry its Marine expeditionary units, which are considered the nation’s crisis response force. But the Corps’ ability to keep forces spread across the globe and quickly react is under threat. Only 45% of the amphibious ship fleet is ready today, compared to the Navy’s 80% readiness goal. And that fleet could shrink dramatically if the Navy gets its way. The service may ask to decommission four amphibious dock landing ships — known as LSDs — in fiscal 2024, even though two congressional committees denied a similar request this year for four different LSDs. The Navy also plans to end construction of the Flight II San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, meant to replace the LSDs, after buying three of them. A fiscal 2024 budget memo states the U.S. Navy’s intention to decommission the amphibious dock landing ship Pearl Harbor, which is two-thirds of the way through its expected service life. (MCSN Larissa Dougherty/U.S. Navy) The gap between the Navy and the Marine Corps over amphibious warfare mirrors a similar debate taking place between the Pentagon and Congress: How much should the military spend on precision missiles and sensors needed for a potential high-end fight with China, and how much money should go toward presence and deterrence efforts that could avoid that fight altogether? The Marines argue amphibious forces are powerful deterrents; they spread out to put eyes and ears around a theater, they create goodwill among current and potential partners, and they can deescalate a tense situation as required. But the Navy, facing a tight budget and large bills to restore these amphibious ships, would rather cut its losses and reinvest the money into creating a larger and more sophisticated inventory of weapons to win a potential fight against China. The readiness problem The Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ships were meant to operate for 40 years. These LSDs were built in the 1980s and 1990s by the now-defunct Lockheed Martin shipyard in Seattle, Washington, and the Avondale Shipyard in Louisiana for $150 million to $300 million a copy. In FY23, the Navy requested to decommission four — Germantown, Gunston Hall, Tortuga and Ashland, each of which would be between 31 to 37 years old. According to an FY24 Navy budget memo obtained by Defense News, the service wants to decommission four more in FY24 — Rushmore, Harpers Ferry, Carter Hall and Pearl Harbor, each of which will be between 26 to 33 years old. Pearl Harbor, the youngest on the list, is two-thirds of the way through its expected service life. According to the memo, “these legacy ships are in poor material condition due to their age and require significant resources to continue to maintain and operate them. Shifting resources to other capabilities better supports the amphibious fleet, and provides more operational capability to the Navy and Marine Corps in support of the National Defense Strategy.” The first four would cost about $150 million apiece to put back into the FY23 budget, and upward of half a billion dollars each to keep for five years, according to a second document obtained by Defense News. The amphibious dock landing ship Rushmore participates in a transport exercise in Japan on Sep. 17, 2022. (Lance Cpl. Manuel Alvarado/U.S. Marine Corps) The Navy doesn’t have cost estimates for the second batch of ships eyed for FY24 decommissioning. It never planned to perform maintenance on these ships, according to the second document, instead simply assuming it would be able to decommission them early. “The substantial cost to retain these ships outweighs the potential warfighting contributions of these platforms over their limited remaining service life,” the document stated. Tortuga illustrates the challenges the Navy faces in trying to return the LSDs to fighting shape. The ship, commissioned in 1990, contributed to the earliest days of the war in Iraq, helped rescue New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina and spent seven years operating out of Japan. The ship was put into a service life-extension period in 2018, but that effort has exceeded its budget by at least $99 million. The Navy said in a May hearing the ship was about 80% complete and had already cost $200 million to $300 million to repair. According to the second document, “Tortuga is currently unable to get underway and operate.” Navy spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Travis Callaghan told Defense News the amphibious ships have been in high demand. Over the years, he said, the Navy has deferred some maintenance to instead send the ships out on operations. “An expected service life assumes a certain amount of regular maintenance, and when that maintenance does not happen, [that service life] is going to be negatively affected,” he said. Rear Adm. Bill Greene, the fleet maintenance officer for U.S. Fleet Forces Command, told Defense News at a recent conference the Navy has created “self-inflicted pain.” The sea service has tried to decommission some of these LSDs before, but was halted by Congress. Even so, when the Navy eyes a ship for decommissioning, it removes it from the planning process for the next several years’ worth of maintenance. Congress can force the Navy to keep the ships, but there’s then no money or dry dock space for them, meaning they forego major maintenance for a few more years. “They live in this kind of purgatory where they’re on and off,” Greene said. Though the Navy has struggled to maintain all its ships in recent years, it has particularly faced challenges with the LSD fleet, Cmdr. Arlo Abrahamson, the spokesman for Naval Surface Forces, told Defense News. Naval Surface Forces life cycle heath assessments, which evaluate a ship’s technical health, found the percentage of the LSD fleet that meets a “satisfactory threshold” is 50% less than that rate in the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer fleet — another high-demand ship class. Each maintenance period is growing longer and more complex as time goes on, Abrahamson said; the average depot maintenance period for an LSD from 2019 through this year is 461 days. A landing craft air cushion transits alongside the dock landing ship Carter Hall in the Persian Gulf on July 16, 2021. (MCSN Mason Ray/U.S. Navy) As a result, some LSDs have missed engagements. Harpers Ferry and Germantown had to cancel an appearance at August’s Seattle Seafair festival due to maintenance, according to a defense official not authorized to publicly discuss operations. Furthermore, Rushmore was a week late in picking up Marines this summer due to maintenance, the official said. And repair issues with Gunston Hall prevented the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit from accelerating their planned deployment to Europe as tension grew ahead of Russia’s eventual Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine. The ship should have been out of maintenance and conducting pre-deployment training at that time, but its maintenance ran long, making a February departure impossible. Navy leaders said U.S. European Command never formally asked for the ships to deploy early, but multiple defense officials not authorized to discuss operations with media told Defense News the request wasn’t made only because it was clear the full formation would not be available. A barrier to Marine operations Naval force-generation models call for three amphibious ready group and Marine expeditionary unit pairings to be at sea at any given time: two in the Pacific, and one in the European, African or Middle Eastern regions. Each provides about 2,200 Marines that can operate in the air, on the water and ashore; those service members also come with a trio of ships, which includes one amphibious assault ship to launch jets and two smaller vessels focused on helicopters and surface connectors. Today, the Marine Corps can barely keep one ARG-MEU pairing at sea at any given time. Lt. Gen. David Furness, the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for plans, policies and operations, told Defense News the Marine units are ready but don’t have ships on which to train and operate. A Navy force-generation model assumes 80% readiness of all ship types. The 10-year average readiness of amphibs is 63%, Furness said, but readiness today is about 45%. He said there are real consequences to not having enough amphibs available. When the Pacific island nation of Tonga experienced a major volcanic eruption in January, for example, “we didn’t respond. The [People’s Republic of China] did. That’s a huge [information operations] blow.” A landing craft unit enters the well deck of the amphibious dock landing ship Pearl Harbor on Oct. 4, 2021, during a deployment to the Persian Gulf area. (MC3 Sang Kim/U.S. Navy) Furness said these teams are critical to deterrence in the Pacific region. “Your presence and your work with allies and partners consistently is part of the campaign that enhances deterrence and prevents any crisis from escalating out of control,” he explained. The Corps has doubled down on this position, executing its...

New Polling Finds Parents And Educators Overwhelmingly Support Technology Designed To Keep Students Safe Online – PR Newswire https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/new-polling-finds-parents-and-educators-overwhelmingly-support-technology-designed-to-keep-students-safe-online-pr-newswire/ More than 91% of parents and educators believe it is necessary to have online educational technology in place to prevent students from accessing harmful or explicit content , /PRNewswire/ — With the 2022-23 school year underway, parents and educators are expressing support for online tools that protect students from harmful content and help detect student mental health concerns. A new survey conducted by decision intelligence company Morning Consult polled a nationally representative group of nearly 2,500 K-12 parents, teachers, and administrators. Survey respondents indicated both significant concerns for student mental health and a high level of support for schools using online technologies to help keep kids safe. Key overall findings from the survey related to content moderation include: The internet is a useful learning tool: 93% of parents and 98% of teachers and administrators agree the internet is a useful learning tool that schools should use as part of their learning process. Harmful or explicit content is a concern: 74% of K-8 and 68% of 9-12 parents are concerned about students accessing explicit or harmful content while using a school-issued device. This increases to more than 80% for teachers and administrators. Content moderation is necessary and is the school’s responsibility: More than 91% of respondents believe it is necessary to have online educational technologies in place to prevent students from accessing harmful or explicit content. Of those that believe it is necessary, over 95% reported it is a school’s responsibility to put these tools in place. Keeping students on task is important, too: Over 88% of those surveyed also believe it is necessary to have online educational technologies in place to keep students on task and away from digital distractions. This is especially critical as educators address pandemic-related unfinished learning. “These findings validate on a broad, national scale what we’ve long heard directly from our customers: parents and educators believe in the value of learning with the internet, and they trust schools to make the right decisions to keep students safe online,” said Patricia Bothwell, Vice President and General Manager for Safety & Productivity at GoGuardian. “With almost 9 out of 10 students in the U.S. now using a device as part of their daily instruction, it’s more important than ever to provide schools with thoughtful and comprehensive approaches to student safety, privacy, and security.” The need for online safety is especially clear when considering the U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory highlighting the urgency of the nation’s youth mental health crisis. Morning Consult’s survey found that parents and educators recognize the role the internet can play in exacerbating mental health issues. Key findings related to student mental health and safety from the survey include: Concern for student safety is high: More than 83% of K-12 parents, educators, and administrators feel a high level of concern for student mental health and violence in schools. The internet plays a role in influencing self-harm or violence: More than 72% of respondents agreed the internet plays a strong role in influencing students to harm themselves or others. Unrestricted access can be detrimental or harmful: Over three in four respondents agree that unrestricted access to the internet on school-issued devices can be detrimental to student mental health. There is support for online tools that protect student safety: Nearly 90% of all respondents support online educational technology that could help detect signs of a student considering harming themselves or others. With nearly all respondents agreeing it is a school’s responsibility to put educational technologies in place to prevent students from accessing harmful or explicit content, there was also consensus around trust in school systems. More than 83% of those polled indicated they trust their school system to make informed decisions about which online technologies are appropriate for school use. Ensuring student data is not shared or sold was a key priority for survey respondents when measuring comfortability with online educational technologies. Additional details and visual representations of key survey findings from Morning Consult can be found here. About the survey: GoGuardian commissioned Morning Consult to conduct the blind, third-party survey. The survey, which fielded responses online from July 16-29, 2022, did not include any mention of specific education technology companies or products. Morning Consult polled 500 K-8 parents, 500 9-12 parents, 1000 K-12 teachers, and 493 K-12 administrators. This research is part of a larger ongoing effort from GoGuardian to glean candid insights from its key stakeholders, which include parents, educators, and administrators. Results from the full survey have a margin of error between +/- 4% and 5%, depending on the question and demographic group. Free COVID-19 Tests, Telehealth Treatment In Michigan – Detroit Free Press https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/free-covid-19-tests-telehealth-treatment-in-michigan-detroit-free-press/ Michigan is the first state to launch coronavirus “Test to Treat” programs that include free testing and telehealth services, with 13 locations throughout the state. The state health department said Monday the Mitten State is the first to launch this federal initiative at neighborhood testing sites to provide quick access to free COVID-19 antiviral medications. What is the COVID Test to Treat program? The program serves Michigan residents with limited access to a health care provider. The sites allow people to access COVID-19 testing, a health assessment and appropriate prescriptions in one visit. People who test positive for COVID-19 at the location can utilize the telehealth services on-site. A health care provider will review the person’s medical history and current medications and determine whether the person is eligible for antiviral treatment. If so, the provider will submit a prescription to a pharmacy close to the site, chosen by the individual, according to the state health department. More:Got a positive COVID-19 test? The partnership is between the state, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, said Matt Quinn, science director of the Army’s Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center. State health officials want to make sure more Michigan residents have access to COVID-19 outpatient treatments.Communities selected for the telehealth sites that have: A high Social Vulnerability Index. A high percentage of people older than 50 who tested at the site. Have limited access to health care sites outside of emergency departments and high testing volume. Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, the state’s chief medical executive, said early access to antiviral medications helps support a faster recovery and decreases the risk of someone being hospitalized. COVID-19 treatments help prevent severe illness if taken soon after symptoms start. Where are the COVID-19 telehealth testing sites? Eight are in southeast Michigan, with five others scattered around the state, including one in the Upper Peninsula. Here are the locations: • Wayne County Community College Northwest Campus, 8200 W. Yes and no. The federal government suspended its free at-home COVID-19 test program Sept. 2 because Congress hadn’t provided additional money to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests, per www.covid.gov/tests. However, the Michigan health department last week announced 289,000 free COVID-19 tests through a partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation through Project Act. It was to provide 58,000 households with one kit containing five tests, typically within a week of ordering. On Monday morning, a notice appeared on the www.AccessCovidTests.org site when a couple of metro Detroit ZIP codes were punched in with a message to please try again in a few days. “We have had an overwhelming response to the initiative and have already exhausted the initial home delivery supply. We will have additional kits available in the coming days. Please check back later to place an order,” the notice stated. By midafternoon Monday, tests could be ordered through the website, which asked for your name, address and phone number. Once the order was placed, an order ID was provided. A message indicated the test kit would be filled by Amazon typically within the next three to five days. Those providing a cellphone also received a text message with the order ID. Households can receive up to five, free at-home test kits from participating libraries while supplies last. Private health insurers are required to cover up to eight at-home COVID-19 tests per month for each person covered by a health plan, according to the state health department. Residents are encouraged to check with their insurer for the most up-to-date information on their specific plan. State health officials are encouraging people to have a supply of COVID-19 tests and well-fitting masks at home, stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, and to talk with their health care provider about their eligibility for therapeutics if they become ill with the virus. Peterson Reports A Positive 2021 Financial Performance – Aberdeen Business News – Aberdeen Business News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/peterson-reports-a-positive-2021-financial-performance-aberdeen-business-news-aberdeen-business-news/ LEADING international energy logistics company, Peterson Energy Logistics (Peterson), part of the Royal Peterson and Control Union Group, today announced its consolidated results for the 12 months ending 31st December 2021. Peterson reported revenue of £249.3m for the year, and £1.8m operating profit, compared to a breakeven result in 2020. The company announced it is positioned to deliver improved financial performance again in 2022 as demand for its energy logistics services continues to increase. Overall, 2021 saw a significant increase in activity as the energy sector emerged from the confines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Quayside tonnages and fuel sales increased significantly in 2021 helping the organisation to continue its improving underlying financial performance. During the year, the company segmented its UK operations into eight new operating entities to better focus the management and delivery of services to its broad UK customer base. At the start of 2022, Peterson appointed Sarah Moore as CEO and established a new leadership team responsible for daily operations and the strategic direction of the business. Commenting on the group’s performance Sarah Moore, CEO of Peterson, said: “We’re pleased to report a significantly improved financial result in 2021, as we reflect on our collective achievements throughout the year.  “Our focus remains on delivering industry-leading logistics solutions to support our clients’ operations with safety, innovation, and efficiency at the core of our service offering. “The leadership team is driving substantial improvements across all aspects of our business, in particular our safety culture and ambitious environmental targets as we strive to meet the expectations of our ‘Goal Zero’ programme. We also work collaboratively with our existing customers to embrace the challenges of energy transition. We continue to make strategic investments, secure opportunities in the renewables sector and target diversification as we grow the business and strengthen the Peterson brand.  “We are proud of the efforts of all our people and thank them for their collective efforts in safely delivering our services and helping us achieve a positive result in 2021.”  Peterson continues to significantly invest in enhancements to its Lighthouse suite of digital applications and other supporting technologies. Part of its renewables strategy saw the company form a joint venture with Coast Renewable Services to establish Coast Offshore which will provide integrated services to the offshore wind sector. Peterson also expanded into Australia opening an office in Perth in line with the company’s strategic growth plans. The company was later announced by Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd (KMSB) as the operator of the Kimberley Marine Offloading Facility in Broome, Western Australia. The $AUD160 million facility will provide new supply chain options to numerous industries, offer lower movement costs, reduce carbon emission options, and minimise risks through shorter distances to offshore oil and gas operations. Once the facility is built operations are set to begin in 2024. Peterson has a robust sustainability road map and is set to achieve carbon-neutral status across all 27 sites in seven countries under the PAS2060 accreditation scheme at the end of 2022. Through the implementation of various initiatives so far, Peterson has seen a 42% reduction in total emissions, and remains on track to reach net zero operations by 2025. The company is committed to playing its role in the energy transition, supporting clients with their sustainability targets, and reducing emissions in supply chains. Some of Peterson’s initiatives include the use of a blend of electric and HVO-powered forklifts, the use of environmentally friendly fuels in cranes and trucks, utilising wind, turbine and solar power to operate facilities and the use of advanced technologies to achieve optimal planning in the supply chain to minimise the movement of goods across locations. How Disordered Eating Can Impact Brain Health According To Science EatingWell
How Disordered Eating Can Impact Brain Health According To Science EatingWell
How Disordered Eating Can Impact Brain Health, According To Science – EatingWell https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-disordered-eating-can-impact-brain-health-according-to-science-eatingwell/ Nearly 1 in 10 Americans have been or will be diagnosed with an eating disorder, according to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. While all forms of eating disorders—including bulimia, binge eating disorder, anorexia and orthorexia—impact the body and brain in different ways, research published in 2022 proves that anorexia nervosa, in particular, might have a surprisingly strong impact on not only the psychology of the brain but the physiology of it as well. According to a May 2022 study in the journal Biological Psychiatry, individuals with severe anorexia have “sizable reductions” in three important parts of the brain: cortical thickness, subcortical volumes and cortical surface area. These shrinking spots hint at the loss of brain cells or a lack of connection between these brain regions. What This Brain Health Study Found By analyzing the results of nearly 2,000 brain scans of people with anorexia, those in recovery from anorexia and “healthy controls” with no eating disorder history, U.K. neuroscientists found a substantial link between brain size and shape and anorexia. Other studies have linked binge eating disorder, bulimia and obesity to some shifts in brain structure as well, but those with anorexia had reductions in brain shape and size twice to four times as large as those with other mental health conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). “The effects of anorexia nervosa have been largely focused on the physical effects of severe calorie restriction. But this study shows us that its impact on the body may decrease the size, and likely the amount of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain in just five years,” explains Ralph Esposito, N.D., a Greenwich, Connecticut-based naturopathic physician and scientific advisor to Athletic Greens. “This can impact cognitive function in those with anorexia nervosa, including their ability to identify and respond safely to the environment and their ability to focus.” When our brain changes, it can make it harder to think, decide things, make plans and move ahead with a decision. This study found that living with anorexia for 1 to 13 years, depending on the individual’s age and the extent of restriction, is enough to alter the brain. “People get ‘stuck’ in rigid thinking and ways of doing things because their brain doesn’t have enough nourishment to be flexible in its thinking,” adds Jillian Lampert, Ph.D., M.P.H., RD, LD, FAED, chief strategy officer of Accanto Health in St. Paul, Minnesota. The other symptoms of these brain adjustments may vary but might include challenges with spatial awareness, proprioception and attention or focus. Individuals may have difficulty performing some physical actions in response to the environment or even feeling stable on their feet, Esposito says. While this sounds stark, the researchers found that these cranial changes aren’t always permanent. “We found that the large reductions in brain structure, which we observed in patients, were less noticeable in patients already on the path to recovery. This is a good sign because it indicates that these changes might not be permanent. With the right treatment, the brain might be able to bounce back,” Esther Walton, Ph.D., lead researcher and lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath, tells University of Bath Communications. How Individuals with (or Recovering from) Anorexia Can Protect Their Brains Seeking treatment ASAP is the most important course of action, the research team agrees. The path to recovery often includes cognitive behavioral therapy, medication and, most crucially, weight gain. The aforementioned brain structure changes might be reversible, particularly the earlier they are reversed. “With anorexia, which is characterized by inadequate nutritional intake, the semi-starvation results in people losing weight, decreasing muscle and bone mass, experiencing dehydration and losing tissue mass of other structures, like the brain,” Lampert says. “The body loses water, fat, muscle and tissue when it’s experiencing deprivation, like plants lose leaves when they aren’t watered enough. The loss of nutrition means the body has to conserve all the energy it can and get nutrition anywhere else it can, like bone, muscle and stored water. Basically, all of our stores get used up and our brain experiences a change in mass.” Just like what happens when you water and nourish a plant—the leaves rebound, new ones grow, leaves that weren’t completely dry bounce back and the plant is healthy again—the same thing can happen when people with anorexia are renourished, Lampert adds. ICYMI, here are eight things that can happen to your body when you skip meals. “Thankfully, the study suggests these changes are not permanent and can be reversed with renutrition. But we don’t know what this does to their risk for brain and mental health-related disorders as they age,” Esposito says. “Renourishment,” the cornerstone of eating disorder treatment, gets people back to health by restoring hydration, bone health and tissue health. A September 2021 study in the Journal of Eating Disorders found that almost all of the structural changes in the brain, due to anorexia, can be resolved with the proper treatment and a healthy weight. “People with severe anorexia can recover after years of being ill and have a quality life with a normal relationship with food and their bodies, a healthy weight and very slim chances that their brain is impacted long-term,” Lampert says. “Nutrition is the key—without it, there isn’t a way for the brain to get the fuel it needs to function. Recovery is possible at any stage of illness, and early detection and treatment is best. If you are concerned about yourself or someone else, reach out for professional help. Don’t wait!”

The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies We Got This Covered
The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies We Got This Covered
The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies – We Got This Covered https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-10-best-and-worst-gadgets-in-james-bond-movies-we-got-this-covered/ Image via Eon Productions To celebrate 60 years of James Bond movies, Amazon is adding the entire back catalog of 25 action-packed outings of agent 007 to its Prime Video service across various territories, from the Sean Connery beginnings all the way through to the modern Daniel Craig era.  Albeit a little more sparse in recent outings, one recurring focal point across the many years of Bond films has been the sheer assortment of gadgets the various Bond actors have been outfitted with.  There has always been consistent staples in Bond’s arsenal, with the likes of his always cutting edge and high tech watches and cars, but as we prepare to binge our way through hours upon hours of spy movies, we’ve put together ten of the best and worst unique gadgets seen in the franchise over the years, regardless of whether Bond has been on the giving or receiving end of use.  1. Best: Briefcase (From Russia with Love) Image via Eon Productions A simple and elegant design which most passers by wouldn’t take a second look at, this businessperson’s staple is packed to the brim, at least figuratively, with a whole host of lethal and handy tools for your average special agent. Its contents include an AR-7 rifle with concealed ammo and an easily accessible throwing knife, fifty gold sovereigns, and just for good measure, a nasty tear gas surprise for those nosy types who attempt to open the briefcase without following proper procedure. 2. Worst: Cigarette gun (You Only Live Twice) Image via Eon Productions This could simultaneously fall in the ‘so bad it’s good’ category, but smokers around the world can attest to the feeling of dry mouth they get from a cigarette. Imagine how it would feel to shoot a bullet out of your mouth – would you even have salivary glands left, let alone teeth? Sure, regardless of the implications on your oral health – you may be left wanting for one in the stereotypical situation of facing down a firing squad, but still, we’ll pass on this one.  3. Best: Jetpack (Thunderball) It’s goofy, it’s dated, and Sean Connery looks like a numpty in that helmet. Yes to all of the above. However, there’s just a certain universal appeal about donning a jetpack to make a quick getaway, or, to the general public, a cruisy way to get from point A to point B while dodging peak hour traffic. There’s a good reason many Grand Theft Auto players still have the cheat code to acquire a jetpack firmly embedded in their brains.  4. Worst: Laser Polaroid (Licence to Kill) Image via Eon Productions In the same film that featured an equally ridiculous exploding alarm clock, we also saw this silly thing. On the surface, a regular old Polaroid camera. Point it, shoot it, and it instantly spits out a photograph. Give it a few shakes and it’s ready to stick on the fridge. Though in the case of this particular hoodwinking camera, its point, shoot, and murder your subject with a high-powered laser. It’s just goofy – and not in a particularly memorable way either. 5. Best: Dagger shoes (From Russia with Love) Image via Eon Productions These give would-be assassins quite the edge in hand to hand combat. The idea of the tables being fatally turned by an unexpected shin kick from these poison-tipped puppies is pretty high-stakes, and grim. Their debut in From Russia with Love looks rather clunky for its time, but their appearance would go on to inspire appearances in films outside of the Bond franchise, most notably in fan-favorite Batman flick The Dark Knight.  6. Worst: Mini scuba tank (Thunderball) Image via Eon Productions Although similar technology does now exist in real life, and this gadget came in handy for Bond in a pinch, it still seems particularly far-fetched that this stick about the same size as an icy pole can provide its user with four minutes of air. The mere fact that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace took inspiration from this gadget meant that this little device was perhaps a little too space-age for a spy movie with a more modern, albeit technologically advanced setting. Then again, we had high praise for the jetpack that appeared in the same movie, so who are we to judge? 7. Best: Pen grenade (Goldeneye) Image via Eon Productions This thing is simply cool. Three clicks to activate its explosive power, and another three clicks if you change your mind. All housed in an inconspicuous writing utensil. It certainly manages to get Bond out of a pinch in an absolute nail-biter of a scene, during which a captive Bond carefully watches a nervous Grishenko click away at it, who is completely clueless of the explosive power. In what was very much a 50/50 gamble, Bond manages to knock the pen out of Grishenko’s hand, causing an explosion and creating enough of a distraction to make his escape. 8. Worst: Sony Ericsson Phones (Brosnan era onwards) Image via Eon Productions Sure, some of the features in these otherwise innocuous cellphones prove to be quite handy for the budding spy, particularly in the Brosnan era, in which they contained fingerprint analyzers and lock picks. Though by the time the brand was still getting plugged in the Craig era, it was pretty much a standard issue Sony Ericsson device with a fancy camera. The simple act of placing the brand has dated the films quite quickly, considering one flagship iOS or Android device today has enough computing power to blow several of these out of the water. 9. Best: Walther PPK (Skyfall) Image via Eon Productions At face value, the Walther PPK seen in Skyfall is a fairly ordinary handgun. What sets it apart is a pretty interesting biometric feature, in that it will only fire when it detects Bond’s palms wrapped around it. There’s been many an action movie where a singular gun trades hands multiple times over the course over a close-quarters struggle, which can be titillating, but this feature would ultimately leave any would-be villain short of the mark when they realize this gun only answers to one decision maker.  10. Worst: Alligator submarine (Octopussy) Image via Eon Productions Another which one could argue into the ‘so bad it’s good’ camp, but come on – seriously? I think the image says most of what needs to be said about why this one is just a little too far on the silly end of the spectrum.

How Can You Play At A Crypto Casino? The Olive Press
How Can You Play At A Crypto Casino? – The Olive Press https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-can-you-play-at-a-crypto-casino-the-olive-press/ If you haven’t just returned from Mars on a 17-year journey, you’ve certainly read or heard, at least one thing, about cryptocurrencies and the huge momentum they’ve added to the non GamStop casinos, like on gamblingpro.pro. What you may not realize and doubt very much (although it is a proven fact) is that during the past 17 years of the Bitcoin revolution there have been a lot of empires and fortunes built on this digital asset. Perhaps the biggest development in Bitcoin history so far is that El Salvador has come to support it and consider it an alternative to foreign exchange reserves, and more countries may soon follow suit. There are three categories of non GamStop casinos, namely: Casinos that support cryptocurrency only. Casinos that do not support encrypted digital currencies, and accept only fiat currencies. Casinos that support both cryptocurrency and fiat currencies. In this article we will explain to you how to use cryptocurrency to deposit/ withdraw from online casinos. Moreover, we will learn about the most important features that crypto casinos also have. What Are the Features of the Best Crypto Casinos Without GamStop? For regular players, the comparison between regular and crypto casinos may be limited to the currencies available for use. However, this is absolutely not true! It is safe to say that crypto casinos differ in every aspect from regular casinos. The number one advantage that crypto casinos have is the usability of Bitcoin and its digital cousins ??to process your deposits and withdrawals. It is also possible that the player is allowed to use one of the fiat currencies. However, note that all online casinos require players to use the same deposit method to withdraw winnings. Using Bitcoin comes with another excellent feature which are bonuses and promotions as they tend to be more generous and bigger than the bonuses offered by regular casinos. On the other hand, crypto casinos without GameStop offer an innovative selection of games that are usually not available in regular casinos. Deposits and Withdrawals – In general, players can conduct their transactions using a wide range of e-wallets and crypto gateways. Bonuses and Promotions – Imagine that you deposited 1 Bitcoin and got 100%, do you know what the total value will be with you now? It’s the equivalent of $21,200! This is an immense amount and incredibly more than what you can get from the best regular casinos. Games Selection – Besides the usual selection of slots, table games and card games, Bitcoin casinos tend to be innovative in their selection and offer their customers an innovative selection of games. Customer Service – Certainly the use of cryptocurrencies has indomitable benefits and features, but sometimes you may have questions about the process. This is where the excellent support section comes into play. This is exactly what you will get at the best online crypto casinos. How to Use Cryptocurrencies at Casinos Not on GamStop? Are you ready for your adventure to gamble with bitcoin? Then, of course, bitcoins have to be bought first! You can buy your cryptocurrencies through crypto wallets.  There are a number of well-known crypto wallets, such as Binance, Coinbase, Exodus, MetaMask, and Ledger Nano X. After you have downloaded this app on your smartphone or computer, you can put money into your account via credit card, web wallet, bank transfer, or in another way. After you have done this, you can purchase bitcoin or any other altcoin. The Resemblance/ Difference Between Cryptocurrency and Gambling Because the prices of bitcoins have risen in value over the long term so far, this can be a very interesting business to invest in and then add more value to it in the casino – although of course it remains a gamble. In addition, the prices of the crypto coins are anything but stable due to the immature market: the risk on bitcoins is quite high and it can therefore also be the case that the price drops very quickly in no time. In that regard, buying crypto is quite a gamble. The fall or rise in value of cryptocurrency is influenced by all kinds of external factors over which you have no influence. Think of regulations, the development of the currency, external financing (remember Elon Musk who bought a lot of bitcoin in a short time and then sold it again freely?), influencers (again we think of Elon Musk who widely promoted Dogecoin) and of course authorities who act on it. In that respect, you could compare it to a game of blackjack or poker – you have good cards in your hand, but external factors (the dealer, the hands of everyone else at the table) can greatly influence your hand. However, in addition to the similarities, there are also differences. Because so many external forces influence the price of cryptocurrency, consumers can also anticipate this well. However, when you play casino game only the luck factor can affect your result. After all, when you play bet on roulette or slot at non GamStop casinos, the ‘luck’ factor is much greater than when trading cryptocurrency. We would therefore rather compare buying crypto with investing in shares. The crypto wallet is the stock market in miniature. Is Gambling in Non GamStop Casinos Different From Crypto Casinos? Gambling in a bitcoin casino is largely similar to gambling in a regular online casino. Apparently it offers the same advantages and disadvantages compared to the land-based casino: it is more anonymous, you can do it from home, the game runs very smoothly and there are many players active. On the other hand, you also have to deal with the fact that there is no supervision and the casino is open 24/7, so if you are prone to addiction that is disadvantageous. The range of games that you can play is also the same and the crypto casinos work with the exact same software suppliers as the regular online casinos, such as Evolution Gaming and NetEnt. Actually, only the payment method is different, but nothing else. However, it also offers additional advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage for the user is that he can make transactions completely anonymously. So if a player has a ban from GamStop, this can offer a solution. The financial authorities won’t find you anyway. In addition, the transactions are very fast, because again there is no bank between you and the casino.

U.S. Treasury Seeks Phased G7 Oil Sanctions As EU Ban Looms – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-treasury-seeks-phased-g7-oil-sanctions-as-eu-ban-looms-reuters/ EU set to implement oil ban in two phases US official says aim to keep Russia oil flowing despite ban G7 difference in approach ‘a release valve’ GENEVA, Oct 4 (Reuters) – G7 sanctions on Russia will target its oil and products in three phases, senior U.S. treasury official Ben Harris said on Tuesday, as the bloc seeks to limit unintended economic damage while curbing Moscow’s funds to wage war in Ukraine. Harris, the Treasury’s assistant secretary for economic policy, told the Argus European Crude Conference in Geneva that Group of Seven sanctions will target Russian crude oil, while later ones will focus on diesel and a third phase will tackle lower value products such as naphtha. The timing may complicate a plan viewed with scepticism by industry players worried about sanctions exposure and buyer countries that have not signed up. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Sanctions from the G7 and the European Union, which is opting for a two-phase ban, are set to begin on Dec. 5. Both economic blocs aim to limit Russian profits from exporting oil following its invasion of Ukraine. So far Moscow has largely maintained revenues as high prices and increased sales to Asia, especially China and India, have offset the impact of Western energy restrictions. The EU will ban seaborne shipments of Russian oil from Dec. 5 and of products from Feb. 5, cutting the trade off from financial services and potentially halting it worldwide. EU sanctions also aim to match an oil price cap agreed by the G7 powers, diplomats have said. But concern is high that the EU sanctions will drive oil prices still higher, increasing economic pain in countries sanctioning Russia where inflation has already hit multi-decade highs. The United States also wants to shelter emerging markets from the ripple effect of sanctions, Harris said. The risks have put the United States and the G7 in the paradoxical position of trying to guarantee Russian output, albeit at prices that deprive Moscow of revenue for its invasion. “As long as we preserve the flow of Russian oil, we consider this a win,” Harris said. “The price cap can be considered a release valve on the (EU) sanctions package,” he added. “It transforms the ban from an absolute ban to a conditional ban.” The price at which Russian oil sales will be capped has not been decided, Harris said, adding it will be high enough to provide an incentive to maintain output and above the marginal production cost for Russia’s most expensive oil well. Statistics Korea says online shopping transactions rose by 16 percent compared to a year earlier to more than 12.four billion U.S. dollars. The agency attributed the increase to the easing of coronavirus restrictions during the summer vacation season as well as demand for gifts and groceries to prepare for the thanksgiving holiday Chuseok. In particular, online shopping for transportation and travel rose by a staggering 133 percent, while grocery shopping rose by more than 27 percent. . 본 저작물 중 본문에 해당하는 뉴스 스크립트(텍스트)는 공공누리 제1유형-출처표시 조건에 따라 이용할 수 있습니다. %

October 2022 Rotherham Business News
October 2022 Rotherham Business News
October 2022 – Rotherham Business News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/october-2022-rotherham-business-news/ News: Why is Rotherham Council planning to fund Forge Island itself? If Rotherham Council decides to fund the Forge Island regeneration scheme itself, it will save nearly £50m compared to an externally funded deal drafted in 2018. Different routes to fund the key town centre project risk further delays and potentially losing key tenants such as Arc Cinemas. Rothbiz revealed recently that funding for the key town centre project was under review with the funding available to the Council’s delivery partner, Muse, for the delivery of Forge Island “significantly reduced.” Forge Island is a Council-owned site which sits between the River Don and South Yorkshire Navigation Canal. Led by Muse Developments, it will host a new leisure scheme with an 8-screen boutique style cinema, modern hotel, food and beverage (F&B) outlets and car parking. It is set to be completed in 2024. The Council selected Muse as the preferred partner in 2018 and signed a “Development Agreement for Lease.” Contracts have recently been updated for the scheme showing a price of £46.8m. Further council documents explain: “Very recent volatility of the financial markets and the challenge this may now pose to private funders providing up-front capital within the requirements previously agreed by the Council has resulted in Muse (in line with the Development Agreement for Lease) assessing delivery arrangements and proposing options for the Council to consider, including the Council acting as funder of the whole or part of the development.” Rising inflation has been cited and Muse was informed last month that the markets were not prepared to lend on the terms previously agreed. The Council’s cabinet is due to meet on October 17 where it will “choose from the full range of options for delivery including further supplementing or replacing what was expected to be privately raised capital with the Council’s own borrowing and capital resources.” The proposal for the Council to fund the scheme does not reduce the potential capital cost of the development, however, it does allow the Council to maintain the current projected development costs at the current secured prices. It also allows the Council to maintain the current third-party tenants (Arc Cinema, Travelodge and the recently announced restaurants via Thistle Group) that provide the ongoing revenue income to enable the Council to finance the project over the project life. New council documents show that the 2018 deal had the headlease, that would have been paid to the private sector funder, increasing with CPI (inflation) at 3-5%. This would be replaced by with the cost of the Council’s borrowing, financing costs, which do not inflate and can be structured across the life of the project in the most cost-effective way. Advertisement Council documents explain: “It is anticipated that based on current financial markets, that this option would save the Council around £49m over the life of the project. Due to the benefit of Council borrowing over the private sector funder headlease that would be subject to inflation.” The UK CPI rate of inflation hit 10.1% earlier in 2022. In 2018, before the UK left the EU, the global pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the rate was nearer 2%. The Council document concludes: “Given the changes in the financial markets that have negatively impacted the original proposal to secure private sector funding, the option of Council borrowing to fund the development becomes the most financial beneficial, stable and deliverable within the confines of the public purse and the Council’s delivery aims for the site.” Options for the Council funding the project include undergoing a full re-procurement but the authority says that this “would result in considerable delay to delivery, and the very high risk that scheme could not proceed at the current tendered price.” Similarly, a reduced procurement route “would not allow an alternative developer a reasonable opportunity to assemble and agree the components necessary for the scheme to be costed and delivered.” Another discounted option would be to adjust the terms of the development funding agreement with the funder through, for example, extending the term of the head-lease or increasing the initial head-lease rent. A direct award to Muse looks to be the desired option, indicated by recently published tender documents. The council is using a Voluntary Ex-Ante Transparency Notice (VEAT) to allow the market to challenge the decision to issue a contract to Muse without first having published a tender notice. The company has also appointed a new CEO and published its interim results for the six months ended June 30 2022. Based on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham, Xeros is a Leeds University spin-out that has moved to “IP-rich, capital-light” business model with water saving and filtration technologies with multiple commercial applications. The share issue was needed as Xeros’ board said earlier in the year that it required further investment to fund the business through to cash breakeven. For the six months, the company reported an increase in its adjusted EBITDA by 36.9% to £3.9m, up from £2.8m in the same period of 2022. The company continues to make progress with its XFilter Technology that enables washing machine manufacturers to provide consumers with the ability to capture and easily and safely dispose of over 90% of microfibres, including microplastics, released during laundry cycles. Having secured a deal with German company Hanning in June, a development agreement was signed in September 2022 with a second large European component supplier to multiple domestic washing machine OEMs. Advertisement In the commercial laundry market, traditionally the proving ground of Xeros technology, progress is being made in China, India and France. Also in India, IFB, the second largest domestic washing machine company in India by sales volume is expected to launch a domestic machine with Xeros technology in Q4 of 2022. The results said that: “A successful launch in India of our domestic XC technology will be a pivotal moment for Xeros, not just in giving a clear line of sight to a significant future revenue stream but, as importantly, it will be key to unlocking wider adoption by the industry and share of the 100 million units per annum market.” Xeros technology also simplifies the finishing process in the manufacture of denim products. Trials have confirmed reductions in chemistry, water and energy use that means that the garments produced are greener, quicker and cheaper to manufacture. A major European retail brand has now taken the next step of asking Xeros to make a proposal for the widescale implementation of its finishing technology into their supply chain. Neil Austin, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Xeros, said: “I am pleased to report the progress made during the first half of 2022 on our three product categories of filtration, care and finish. The vital savings in water and energy that our technology can deliver has been recognised and adopted by key licensing and development partners laying a strong foundation for future growth. “The proceeds from the placing and open offer announced earlier today will be applied to winning additional contracts in each of our application areas. Our marketing investment will amplify the reach of our proposition and accelerate new licence agreements. We look forward to updating shareholders on our progress in due course.” Xeros website Images: Xeros Read more…

White House Rolls Out Plan To Fight Hunger Improve Health North Carolina Health News
White House Rolls Out Plan To Fight Hunger, Improve Health – North Carolina Health News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/white-house-rolls-out-plan-to-fight-hunger-improve-health-north-carolina-health-news/ This is the first in a series, Seafood and A Healthy Diet, examining the role and sustainability of seafood in a healthy diet and is published in collaboration with Coastal Review Online. By Jennifer Allen Coastal Review President Joe Biden last week introduced a plan to end hunger in the United States and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030. The 44-page National Strategy On Hunger, Nutrition, And Health identifies what White House officials called “ambitious and achievable actions” the administration will pursue across five pillars: improving food access and affordability, integrating nutrition and health, empowering all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices, supporting physical activity for all and enhancing nutrition and food security research. The strategy document was released Sept. 27 in conjunction with the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health held Sept. 28, in Washington, D.C. The conference was the first such event in five decades, as Biden noted in his remarks. Richard Nixon had convened the first White House nutrition conference that “led to a transformational change that has helped millions of Americans live healthier lives for generations,” Biden said. “Since that time, advances in research and medicine have taught us so much more about nutrition and health,” the president said, adding that he had convened the conference because he believed the advances will make America a stronger and a healthier nation. Republicans pointed to an ongoing external review of the Food and Drug Administration’s food safety inspection practices, which was requested earlier this year by the agency chief in response to criticism regarding its oversight, and said the conference should have been more bipartisan. “At a time when food prices continue to soar under record-high inflation rates, and while an external investigation into FDA’s food safety centers—ordered by FDA Commissioner Califf himself—remains underway, it is critical this process involve all appropriate policymakers and stakeholders in any policy goals emerging from the Conference,” top Republicans said Sept. 21 in a letter to the White House. Key principles focus on access The White House strategy is based on three key principles: Helping Americans access the food that will keep their families nourished and healthy, providing options and information needed to make healthy dietary choices, and helping more Americans be physically active, Biden explained. According to the plan, nearly 40 million Americans lack nearby grocery stores with affordable and healthy food options and have no access to transit to get there. Oftentimes, those with limited access to affordable, nutritious food tend to be lower-income and people of color. In 2021, one in 10 households experienced food insecurity, meaning their access to food was limited by lack of money or other resources. Nearly 4% of households experienced very low food security, which means they were skipping meals regularly or cutting back on how much they ate because they could not afford more food.  Diet-related diseases are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the U.S., according to the strategy. Findings show that 19 states – including North Carolina – and two territories have an obesity prevalence at or above 35%, more than double the number of states from 2018. One in 10 Americans have diabetes, one in three will have cancer in their lifetime, and more than four in 10 have high blood pressure, which is linked to heart disease and stroke. Children in low-income families typically have fewer opportunities to be physically active because of lesser access to safe streets and playgrounds. President Joe Biden speaks at the first White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in over 50 years. Credit: White House Facebook page Hunger and diet-related diseases are not distributed equally. “These challenges disproportionately impact communities of color, people living in rural areas, people living in territories, people with disabilities, older adults, LGBTQI+ people, military families, and Veterans,” according to the plan. Biden said the plan “recognizes the critical role that nutrition plays in our health and our healthcare system, and it acknowledges that we have to give families the tools to keep them healthy.”  The proposed actions under the plan’s five pillars for combating hunger and diet-related illnesses include increasing access to free school meals and food during the summer for more children, updating nutritional labeling, expanding incentives for fruits and vegetables for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, recipients, increasing access to outdoor spaces, and providing more funding to research nutrition and food security policy, mostly on equity and access issues. To help Americans learn to make healthy food choices, the plan proposes funding public education campaigns, nutrition education and support for Medicare recipients, expanding nutrition education for children and for older adults, offering low-income housing grantees nutritional assistant programs, and supporting regular updates to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Biden said that more than 100 different organizations and businesses have committed more than $8 billion to help reach the plan’s goals. Commitments include $2.5 billion invested in start-up companies developing solutions to hunger and food insecurity, and more than $4 billion is to be dedicated toward philanthropy to improve access to nutritious food, promote healthy choices and increase physical activity, according to an administration handout. Among the organizations to commit is the Seafood Nutrition Partnership. The nonprofit focused on building awareness of the health and nutritional benefits of seafood said it will invest a minimum of $280,000 over the next eight years to improve public knowledge of essential nutrition that has been shown to improve brain health. The partnership plans an “eating for brain health” program to educate pregnant individuals on the nutrients required to reduce preterm birth risk and foster healthy early brain development. The group is to conduct research to measure and map Omega-3 fatty acid deficiencies across the country to prioritize the roll-out of its education programs to the areas of greatest need. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation (disclosure: the BCBSNC Foundation is a NC Health News funder) has committed to launch a two-year, $3.5 million effort to increase access to healthy food and grow the “food is medicine” movement in the state. The foundation said it would fund and facilitate partnerships between health care providers and community-based organizations to provide a range of services from food vouchers to medically tailored meals. Other organizations that have committed include AARP (disclosure: AARP is a NC Health News sponsor) and AARP Foundation to expand research on older adults’ access to SNAP and use the research to improve SNAP enrollment rates for older adults, and the Wave Foundation for an equity and climate marketplace to connect underrepresented food producers – people of color and women – with large-scale food service and retail outlets nationwide. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack called the national strategy a defining moment. “It sets us on a path to end hunger, enhance nutrition, and improve health outcomes in this country. This strategy compiles recommendations from dozens of listening sessions held over the summer,” he said in a statement. Public Health Institute Senior Vice President of Programs, Public Policy and Government Relations Matthew Marsom called the plan sustainable and effective and said it was grounded in research, focused on equity, and addresses the systemic causes of hunger, poor nutrition and diet-related chronic disease. “The White House agenda acknowledges the upstream issues that contribute to food security, especially accessibility and affordability. It calls for addressing poverty by increasing the minimum wage, fully funding the childcare tax credit and expanding the earned income tax credit,” Marsom said. “It also underscores the role of culturally rooted practices as a critical piece of accessibility, including investing in a nutrition workforce that looks like, and comes from the communities it serves.” The Alliance to End Hunger also commended the plan. “This strategy is a beacon lighting the road we must now take,” Eric Mitchell, executive director of the Alliance to End Hunger, said in a statement. “We look forward to discussing these ideas and recommendations with the White House and Congress to promote greater equity, improve access to nutritious foods, and ultimately ensure that every American has food on the table every day.” Developing recommendations The Task Force on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, a nongovernment, nonpartisan group, had worked through the summer to develop recommendations for the plan. “Informing the White House Conference: Ambitious, Actionable Recommendations to End Hunger, Advance Nutrition, and Improve Health in the United States,” was released Aug. 23 and provided to the White House ahead of the conference. The task force noted in a press release that its recommendations had not been formally requested nor endorsed by the White House, but organizers applauded Biden’s leadership and the national strategy. “The work to fix these issues cannot happen in a day, but guided by this national strategy and the non-partisan spirit of the Conference — supported by Congressional leaders from both sides of the aisle — it can and will happen,” organizers said. “We stand ready to support policymakers, industry, a...

Soccer Predictions Best Bets Today: Betting Tips Expert Picks For Games On Tuesday October 4 Sporting News
Soccer Predictions, Best Bets Today: Betting Tips, Expert Picks For Games On Tuesday, October 4 – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/soccer-predictions-best-bets-today-betting-tips-expert-picks-for-games-on-tuesday-october-4-sporting-news/ It’s all about the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday with eight matches on the slate. Our best bets for four of the eight Champions League matches are outlined below, including two moneyline/goal total parlays. The Tuesday slate has plenty of attractive matchups, including Inter-Barcelona and Liverpool-Rangers, but those two matches did not present much value to our experts. Instead, they’re banking on goals in Ajax-Napoli and Eintracht-Tottenham, as well as Olympique Marseille and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala to have standout performances. MORE: Sporting News soccer betting guide Ajax vs. Napoli prediction, best bet Best Bet: Napoli to win & 2+ goals Odds: +380 (Caesars) Prediction (Win/Draw): Napoli Napoli are on a roll, and have a chance to make it three wins from three in Champions League Group A, having already blasted Liverpool and Rangers. They score loads of goals, with Georgian wonderkid Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in spectacular form. Ajax are in a slump, winless in their last three matches, but have gone way under their expected goals total in each of those three games. Both teams should find the back of the net, and the Italian side to come out on top. — Kyle Bonn * = Napoli and Over 2.5 goals is available on Sports Interaction at 3.90.  Marseille vs. Sporting CP prediction, best bet Best Bet: Marseille win & Under 3.5 goals Odds: +190 / 2.90 (Sports Interaction) Prediction (Win/Draw): Marseille These two teams have been incredibly wonky, with Marseille looking great in Ligue 1 play but terrible in the Champions League, while Sporting have slipped in league play but they are perfect through two European games. Something has to give, and expected goals (xG) can provide some insight. Sporting have won their two UCL games by a combined 5-0 score, but registered under 1.0 xG in both games. Meanwhile, Marseille haven’t been great offensively, but are spectacular at the back and were unlucky to lose their Champions League games, with an early red card in one and bunch of chances missed in the other. This is a game where things regress to the mean on both sides. — Kyle Bonn Pick Caesars (USA) Sports Interaction (Canada) Marseille win & Under 3.5 total goals — 2.90 Bayern Munich vs. Viktoria Plzen prediction, best bet Best Bet: Jamal Musiala anytime scorer Odds: +115 Prediction (Win/Draw): Bayern win The most interesting angle in a match that is expected to be lopsided is the anytime scorer market, where there are six Bayern players listed at less than even money. Attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is not one of them and that’s value. The teenager has scored in six of the 11 matches in which he has played for Bayern this season, and two of his goal-less matches were cameos off the bench. Given this will be a game with few spaces for Bayern, the scoring edge should go to players who can create their own shot or make the ghosting run from midfield. Musiala excels at both. — Simon Borg Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction, best bet Best Bet: Over 2.5 total goals Odds: -135 Prediction (Win/Draw): Tottenham A combination of Tottenham’s counterattacking prowess and Eintracht’s desperation to come away with a home win should see goals exchanged between two talented attacks. Mario Gotze is out for Eintracht, but they still have enough firepower to cause issues for an uncharacteristically leaky Spurs backline (nine goals conceded in their last six matches on 7.2 xG). Despite the recent stats, Spurs are capable of locking things down defensively on their day, which is a reason ‘Both Teams To Score’ at -155 is less attractive. — Simon Borg Yesterday’s picks Kyle predicted the goals would be flowing in the bottom-of-the-table clash in the Premier League. But a surprise corner-kick header by Elche, who only had five total shots in the match at Rayo Vallecano, torpedoed his clean sheet pick. A stoppage time Udinese winner (2-1) and a shot that rang the post by Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi in a 4-0 loss (Forest mustered 1.10 xG) ruined the day for Borg. Crypto Better Days Coming: UN Urges The Federal Reserve Not To Hike Interest Rates | Bitcoinist.com – Bitcoinist https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/crypto-better-days-coming-un-urges-the-federal-reserve-not-to-hike-interest-rates-bitcoinist-com-bitcoinist/ Crypto prices immediately came crashing down after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced they are increasing interest rates during an economic summit on September 21. Now, in a not-so-delayed reaction, the United Nations is calling on the U.S. central bank and other large western regulators not to continue raising their interest rates, a UN agency says. The Fed and other central banks worldwide raised their interest rates with the objective of containing the onslaught of inflation.  The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) warns, however, that this could trigger a worldwide economic crisis. JUST IN: United Nations says the FED and other central banks risk pushing the global economy into recession if they keep raising interest rates. — Watcher.Guru (@WatcherGuru) October 3, 2022 Better Days Ahead For Crypto? UNCTAD published its Trade and Development Report 2022 on Monday, in which it expressed concern about the possibility of a global economic calamity brought on by the Fed’s rigid monetary policy, the effects of which would be felt most severely in developing nations. “Any belief that they (central banks) will be able to bring down prices by relying on higher interest rates without generating a recession is… an imprudent gamble,” the agency said. The market immediately reacted negatively to Powell’s reiteration that the Fed must maintain its fight against rising inflation by further increasing interest rates. As has been the case over the past few months as the prices of Bitcoin and Ether have been increasingly tied to the stock market, the Bitcoin price and the larger crypto market followed suit. Current Fed Policy Hurts Vulnerable People Globally “Current policies are harmful to vulnerable populations everywhere, especially in developing nations. Rebeca Grynspan, the UNCTAD secretary-general, made these remarks at a press conference in Geneva. Market analysts at Bitfinex, a cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, have issued the following statements through email: “The cryptocurrency market, like other risk assets, is extremely sensitive to comments made by the Federal Reserve, and it has been recently impacted by the Fed’s rate hikes.” As of this writing, Bitcoin is trading at $19,603, up 3 percent in the last seven days, data from Coingecko show, Tuesday. A Recession Would Benefit Crypto? Meanwhile, predictions on how cryptocurrency prices would behave during a recession are all over the map. While the consensus is that the value of crypto assets will plummet in the event of a stock market crash, an opposing viewpoint is gaining ground. A recession, which American investor Stan Druckenmiller believes will happen next year, would be good for the cryptocurrency sector as a whole, he says. Druckenmiller pointed out that a growing lack of trust in governments and their central banks could be good news for cryptocurrencies. Because Bitcoin is decentralized, market watchers believe it will likely diverge from the pack and increase in price. Some analysts believe that as Bitcoin rallies – whether the Fed hikes its rates or not – so will other major cryptos like Ethereum, Tether, and Dogecoin. The Fed easing its current stance on interest rates could have a healing effect on the overall health of the crypto markets. When the Federal Reserve meets again on November 4, they will decide if interest rates will be allowed to climb again. And with the UN now breathing heavily down its nape, the Fed must get back on the drawing boards and chart its next move. U.S. Calls North Korea Launch ‘dangerous’; Pledges To Defend Allies – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-calls-north-korea-launch-dangerous-pledges-to-defend-allies-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) – The United States condemned North Korea’s firing of a ballistic missile over Japan as “dangerous and reckless” and pledged to defend South Korea and Japan with all America’s power, but said it remained open to dialogue with Pyongyang. “This action is destabilizing and shows the DPRK’s blatant disregard for United Nations Security Council resolutions and international safety norms,” White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said in statement, referring to North Korea by the initials of its official name. She said U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts to discuss “appropriate and robust joint and international responses.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Sullivan reinforced the “ironclad” U.S. commitments to the defense of Japan and South Korea and said Washington would continue efforts to limit North Korea’s ability to advance its prohibited weapons programs. The missile fired on Thursday was the first to fly over Japan in five years, prompting a warning for residents to take cover and a temporary suspension of train operations in northern areas of the country. read more Daniel Kritenbrink, the State Department’s assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs, said China needed to do more to fight sanctions evasion by North Korea in its coastal waters. He added that Beijing and Russia should work to shut down Pyongyang’s procurement networks. “The failure of the PRC and Russia to fully and completely fulfill their obligations … has only, we fear, emboldened the DPRK in undermining the U.N. Security Council, the international rules-based order and global non-proliferation regime,” he said. Kritenbrink said that persuading North Korea to denuclearize ought to be an area of cooperation with China, but that there were some in Beijing who want to use the issue as leverage in the broader strategic rivalry with Washington. He reiterated that Washington remained open to dialogue with North Korea without preconditions and called Pyongyang to “commit to serious and sustained diplomacy, and refrain from further destabilizing activities.” “Unfortunately… the only response we have seen thus far is an increase in the number of ballistic missile launches and other provocative actions,” he said. “This is not a productive path forward, neither for North Korea or for any of us.” Kritenbrink reiterated a U.S. assessment that a resumption of nuclear testing by North Korea for the first time since 2017 was probably just awaiting political approval. He said such a “dangerous” act would represent “a grave escalation that would seriously threaten regional and international stability and security.” “It is in the international community’s best interest to ensure the DPRK knows that such an action will be met by unanimous condemnation, that the only path towards long-term peace and stability is through negotiations,” he said. Kritenbrink said Washington would “respond resolutely” to the growing North Korean threat and “take all necessary measures, involving all elements of American national power” to defend treaty allies South Korea and Japan. “I don’t think anyone should doubt our result in terms of pursuing sanctions and other authority to impose a cost on these actions,” he added. Decades of U.S.-led sanctions have not stemmed North Korea’s increasingly sophisticated missile and nuclear bomb programs, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has shown no interest in returning a failed path of diplomacy he pursued with U.S. President Donald Trump. Deployed to a number of project areas in collaboration with a U.S. telecom company, the AIROHA IC chips for fiber optical broadband Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) strictly observe standards set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with a symmetric speed of 8 gigabits per second verified by Speedtest®, which is the fastest so far in the real world optical fiber networks, and have set a new benchmark for the introduction of 10G-PON technology amid the world’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and thriving developments of digital content market. A subsidiary of the IC giant MediaTeK, AIROHA has more than 20 years of engineering experience in fixed network with an inclusive product portfolio for fixed broadband aimed to provide interoperability and reliability in a highly heterogeneous and stability-demanding environment. The case has demonstrated AIROHA’s ability in assisting telecom carriers and network operators to deploy high-performance services to the premises of their customers with faster-than-expected pace and reduced operating and maintenance costs. Living up to promised speed in compliance with FCC and verified with Speedtest® The Federal Infrastructure Investment and Job Act of 2021 requires the federal government of the U.S. to spend $65 billion on broadband access, which has become the industry’s biggest focus. To help establish the credibility of the entire industrial ecosystem, the FCC has set rigid regulations for ensuring that the quality of network services will live up to their providers’ promises. In August 2022, AIROHA helped a U.S. telecom operator commercialize the world’s first XGS-PON services that achieve a real-world speed of symmetrical 8 Gbps in compliance with FCC regulations. For telecom operators, fiber broadband is not just about providing network speed with stability and reliability, but more essentially, is also about the ability to keep compliance with FCC and earn trust from the broad market. The most critical and difficult part about the U.S. 8 Gbps XGS-PON deployments is to achieve low latency under 3ms as tested against Speedtest® standards. AIROHA solves this challenge through impeccable software and hardware integration as well as firmware optimization. Market demands are driving fixed-line broadband to migrate toward fiber Market demands rising from Work from Home (WFH) trend during the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid developments of content technologies are driving fixed-line broadband operators to migrate to fiber optical cable at an accelerated pace. Innovative applications including 4K and 8K video streaming, AR, VR and Metaverse need high speed data transfer of high-quality video and audio content. Network service providers therefore have been looking into more advanced PON technology of 10G-PON. And, moreover, proposed 25G/50G-PON specifications are looming in the upcoming future. 20 years’ experience in serving over 150 operator clients paved the way to the U.S. market in landing the world’s fastest optical broadband Based upon 20 years of accumulative experience in deploying broadband services for 150+ operator customers, Aroha Technology had been able to help the U.S. telecom carrier to realize the world’s first symmetric 8 Gbps broadband services in just two years with a two-phase project. During the past two years, AIROHA has rolled out all its expertise in delivering SoC, software and services to gain the trust of the customer. In the first phase, we demonstrated to the customer our muscle in enabling GPON technology, and in the second phase, we made big breakthroughs in 8 Gbps XGS-PON.  AIROHA has a full range of market-leading fiber migration solutions, from xDSL, xPON to 10G-PON. AIROHA is able to provide the compatibility and interoperability needed for broadband services with supports for various exiting devices from different vendors. AIROHA fully understands the pain points telecom operators and network operators would face in PON transformation. In the wave of accelerated fiber migration, we will continue to provide solid & inclusive solutions, and become the most trustworthy & valuable long-term partner for more service providers. Intel Will Not Prohibit Gaming Arc GPU Use In Data Centers – VideoCardz.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/intel-will-not-prohibit-gaming-arc-gpu-use-in-data-centers-videocardz-com/ Intel Arc gaming GPUs can be used in data centers ServeTheHome has confirmed with Intel that their upcoming desktop Arc GPUs can be used in servers. The consumer Arc A7 mid-range GPU series for gaming were not designed for large-scale operations with multiple GPU instances running alongside each other. For this, Intel has a separate line of products called Data Center GPU Flex series, which are essentially the same cards except they don’t have physical display connectors and fans. However, if there are still people who would rather buy Arc A7 GPUs for servers, that will be a non-issue according to Intel, who will grant license even for such a use. This means that Intel will have a similar software licensing model to AMD, but entirely different from NVIDIA. At the event, I also confirmed a key detail. Intel is not going to limit its desktop cards to desktops only. Unlike NVIDIA’s CUDA license, the company said it was not planning to prohibit their use in servers. That was a welcome announcement. — ServeTheHome NVIDIA does not allow GeForce or TITAN GPUs to be used in data centers. NVIDIA is simply not granting a software license (aka drivers) for datacenter deployment. This should be enough to convince serious businesses or governments to deploy data-center hardware instead. Obviously, this will not stop smaller players. Interestingly, NVIDIA license still allows ‘blockchain processing’, which should mean cutting-edge technologies, but in most cases means cryptomining. Meanwhile, it looks like Arc GPUs can be used for anything… in anything. Source: ServeTheHome

COCOBOD Secures $1.13b To Purchase Cocoa – Ghana Business News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cocobod-secures-1-13b-to-purchase-cocoa-ghana-business-news/ The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has secured $1.13 billion from a consortium of international banks to meet its financing needs to purchase cocoa and related operations for the 2022/23 cocoa crop season. The Board signed the agreement with Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited on behalf of the other lenders. Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, witnessed the signing ceremony together with the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, and Dr Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. “Despite the challenging context for COCOBOD and Ghana this year, the new annual financing for a thirtieth successive year closed successfully with the strong support of its relationship banks and enhanced level of collateralisation and pricing, confirmed the longstanding successful track record of this PXF,” a statement said. The Ghanaian government confirmed its long term and continuous support to COCOBOD and to the domestic cocoa industry given the sector’s long standing critical role in the Ghana economy. As a structured performance risk loan lenders continue not to require a sovereign guarantee, the statement added. Source: GNA

New Guide To Improve Health Outcomes For People With Intellectual Disabilities – Mirage News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/new-guide-to-improve-health-outcomes-for-people-with-intellectual-disabilities-mirage-news/ Helping caregivers to better understand and meet the healthcare needs of people living with a cognitive impairment or intellectual disability is the aim of a new health literacy guide published by The University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA). The 180-page guide, which is now freely available online, was developed by Dr Rachel Skoss from UNDA’s Institute for Health Research following widespread consultation with stakeholders, families and healthcare providers. It was also supported by a WA Department of Health Research Translation Project grant. The guide covers topics such as healthy lifestyles and preventative care, managing specific health conditions, navigating the health system, and engaging with health professionals. It also contains advice about how to help people with an intellectual disability understand what is happening to them, and empower them to make informed decisions about their treatment options. Dr Skoss said people with an intellectual disability were more likely to suffer from multiple health issues and those issues were often undermanaged, resulting in poor long-term health outcomes. “Caregivers are often family members or support workers who receive little training to help them manage the extremely complex health needs of the person they are caring for,” Dr Skoss said. “Further complicating matters is the fact that the person receiving care is often not able to clearly communicate how they are feeling or what symptoms they are experiencing. “That is why it was important to bring together as much practical information as possible into one handy document that is easy to read and also includes additional links to a range of trusted sites promoting best practice healthcare advice from around the world. “We hope the guide will also be a useful resource for medical practitioners, helping them to better understand the unique needs of their patients and the importance of working with them and their caregivers to achieve the best possible outcomes. We also believe that it will be useful for disability organisations who support people living in group homes.” You can view and download the guide here. /University Public Release. The Importance Of Being Inquisitive | News, Sports, Jobs – Evening Observer https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-importance-of-being-inquisitive-news-sports-jobs-evening-observer/ Commentary Oct 4, 2022 Rolland Kidder Stow resident former NYS Assemblyman By ROLLAND KIDDER I think that everyone is curious at some level. That is, they will ask a question when there is something that they don’t know or understand. But, that does not mean that they are inquisitive. When someone is “inquisitive,” it means that they aren’t just curious — but, that they will follow-up on it. They will ask the second, third or maybe fourth question. And, if they are then not satisfied, they will keep pursuing the matter until they understand more. In terms of fairly recent American History, the example of President George H.W. Bush vs. his son, George W. Bush, is instructive. The first Bush was on his way to Baghdad with our Army and allies, but he asked the second or third question–who will be with us till the end? Who will run the country if we take it? What will it cost? He stopped the Army on the road to Baghdad. His son, asked none of these questions. Those around him said: “The Iraqi people will welcome us with open arms.” “Unlike before, we will crush Saddam Hussein.” “We should finish off what your father started,” etc. Now, decades later, we have, in Iraq, a failed state with several thousand American casualties to prove it, and over a trillion dollars spent on a losing cause. Being inquisitive matters. I have often thought that successful businessmen (women) are also those who are inquisitive. “I know that we sold a lot of product this year, but what happens if we have a downturn next year?” “I can read the financial statements, but what is the substance behind them?” “Is there a way we can do more with less?” Obviously, inventors and scientists have to be inquisitive. You don’t discover something new without asking a lot of questions. In the larger scheme of American History, both Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt were known for appointing advisors who had differing opinions or even different political affiliations than their own in order to get to the truth. They asked a lot of questions. However, the American President who stands out to me as probably our most inquisitive was Thomas Jefferson. If you have ever visited his homestead at Monticello, you can see the inventions that he was working on, the books he was reading, what was on his mind. He was able to envision a government other than one controlled by a British monarch and put these ideas into writing. However, I have always thought that the most inquisitive side of Jefferson came with his push to buy the Louisiana Purchase from the French. He knew it was big, but how big? To figure that out, he got Congress to agree to outfit Lewis and Clark and send them on a mission up the Missouri River and to an end nobody knew. Two years later, they reappeared having gone over the Continental Divide and on to the Pacific Ocean. Jefferson wanted to always find out what was over the horizon. You can only do that by asking more questions and seeking more truth. Being inquisitive is a good thing! Rolland Kidder is a Stow resident and a former New York state Assemblyman.
