Anna Geary Says She’s Living Life In Her Dad’s Honour After He Passed Away – RSVP Live https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/anna-geary-says-shes-living-life-in-her-dads-honour-after-he-passed-away-rsvp-live/ Anna Geary has told how she’s living her life in her late dad’s honour — and opened up about some of the lessons that she learned from him. The Ireland’s Fittest Family coach’s father, Michael, passed away in March this year after a “short, aggressive illness”. Anna told Star Chic magazine how life without him “has been an adjustment period” and how he was “one of my biggest supporters”. She recalled, “He was always someone that encouraged me to get out there and try new things, to not be afraid to try something new — even if it doesn’t work out, the lesson is in the actual willingness to try it. “My dad was a farmer and he had an incredible work ethic. Any farmer will attest to the fact that work has to be done 365 days a year — especially if you have livestock, you have to look after them. Or if you’re not going to be around, you have to make sure that someone is. “He really instilled that work ethic in me. I’m really grateful that I have the life that I live right now, I’m almost living it in his honour — trying new things, saying yes to new things and not being afraid to put myself out there a bit more. “Saying yes to something that’s completely different, it can be really daunting. Sometimes, you think to yourself, ‘Oh, I don’t know, can I do this?’ Whereas now, I nearly feel I have to do it because I’m like, ‘what would dad say?’ He’d go, ‘ah, sure, look — give it a go! What’s the worst that can happen?’ “It’s good to feel him with me in that aspect. But it’s also been really hard, because it’s still so raw. Every time I go home, I expect him to be there.” Read more: Mairead Ronan says pandemic gave her courage to leave Today FM job The Cork native added that the loss is something that’s “definitely tough for us to get used to” — and that having a good support system in place is especially important. She said, “I think that having a really good support structure is really important, and giving people the space to just allow themselves to grieve and be upset. That’s important, too, to not bottle it up and to talk about it. “I talk about my dad quite a bit, because it’s important. “But some people, they don’t know how to act around you — how to be, or whether they should bring him up or mention it at all. Obviously, it’s extremely, extremely sad. My dad was only 64 and it was a short, aggressive illness. “He was so healthy. He was your typical farmer in his 60s and had a few illnesses, but what farmer doesn’t? But all in all, my dad didn’t really drink, he was very active and for him to have gotten sick and be gone so quickly was a shock for everybody around him, and our local community as well. “On the most basic level, it just makes you understand the fragility of life. Until it lands on your doorstep, you think, ‘ah, yeah, I get it — life is for living’. But when you’re met with something like this, with someone that was still so young, so active and had a lot of living to do and then he was taken away, it does make you realise things like is all that small, unimportant stuff worth getting stressed about? It’s just — life could change in the morning. I think we all nearly have the responsibility to make the most of it, for the people who can’t.” Anna will be back on telly tomorrow night [October 2] as Ireland’s Fittest Family returns for its tenth season — something which she says is “hard to believe”. She said, “Ireland’s Fittest Family is one of those shows, I think, where every season throws up different things — and this year, they’re trying to push the boat out and challenge the families in new ways while also keeping the audience guessing about what’s going to happen next. “We have a new location this year and brand new challenges, so the families can’t prepare — but also it means that as coaches, we can’t prepare. You see the new challenge and literally have a few moments to gather your thoughts about the challenge, try and work out the best way to do it and then devise a tactic for them. “It does get very chaotic, which is obviously very exciting from an audience point of view — you’ll see some errors, you’ll see all of the coaches taking up different strategies for things because we’re all trying to work out what the best one is. Having the new coach, Nina Carberry, in shakes things up as well.” The coaches on Ireland’s Fittest Family (Image: Kyran O’Brien) And there’s even more big changes in store this season, as Anna opened up about what viewers can expect from the latest season of the RTE One competition programme. She continued, “It’s one of those shows where every year, it’s different. The family dynamics this year have changed slightly in that we’ve got families who have very young competitors. Often in the show, you’ll see the odd family with a really young competitor — but this year, there are more of them. “The age is from 14 and up, and sometimes you might underestimate a really young person, comparing them to someone in their mid 20s, due to their physique or think that they may not be strong enough mentally or physically. “But I was really blown away by the mental attitude of some of the families this year. “The biggest thing, I think, about this season is that it’s the first time in ten seasons where we’ve had a water eliminator, which completely throws everybody off. You can be really fit, but unless you’re calm under pressure and you’re comfortable in water, it can swing the favour in the direction of the other team. “It was a real shock for everybody. As coaches, we weren’t expecting it either. We can’t be on the water at the time the families are doing it. It was a real challenge for us, as well, to come up with tactics for it. It was just really, really exciting. “Some of the things that happen…to say edge of your seat stuff, that’s putting it mildly. It’s really unpredictable.” Anna Geary (Image: Kyran O’Brien) Anna told how the coaches’ competitive sides emerge once the challenges begin — and how they “fully immerse ourselves in it”. She said, “People have to remember, first and foremost, we’re four former athletes in our respective fields. We always try to push ourselves — and thankfully, we’re very successful in each of our respective fields. “When you come onto Ireland’s Fittest Family, even though you’re in a coaching capacity, you’re still very much involved with your family. You become like the fifth family member, eventually. When the referee says, 3, 2, 1, go — we all genuinely forget that it’s a TV show. “All we see in front of us is a challenge, the course and the vents, the obstacles and ultimately the competition. Oftentimes, the coaches do the debrief afterwards and it’s like, ‘oh my god, I can’t believe I did that’ or ‘I can’t believe I said that’. “You’re nearly telling your friends and family like, ‘I may have been a little bit animated this episode — don’t take any notice of me!’ You just get so invested in the show.” As for how she de-stresses and unwinds once the cameras stop rolling, Anna said that that’s still “a work in progress”. She explained, “They’re quite long days — people see the hour, or 90 minutes, of TV that goes out. But we’re on set from 7am until 8pm and we’re often staying over at the location if we’re there for a few days. “It does take you a while to come down from, particularly if there’s a high adrenaline-fuelled event. “Usually, my way to deal with stress, or even if I’m on camera and the adrenaline is high, I find that exercise is really good to bring me back down and ground me. But I mean, if you’re doing long days, the thought of getting up at like 5.45am to exercise or do it afterwards…you’re just not really in the headspace for it. “Typically, we’ll have dinner and unwind and take our mind off of the show and not talk about it. It would be really easy for us, as coaches, to be fully immersed in it all the time. But you have to be really protective of your energy. “It’s like going to work. If you had a really tough day at work and you came home to your family and all you talked about was work, then you went to work the next day…your energy would just be depleted. “Whether I’m with the coaches and we’re going to dinner or I’m going home to my house in Sallins with my husband — I love to talk, as a lot of people know. But often, I’ll be the quietest that I ever am after a long day. I just want to unwind and relax and read a book or watch TV. The last thing I want is to be debriefing and unpacking what happened that day, because you know that the next day you have to go back and do it all again. You have to be fresh again. “It’s definitely a challenge — but I think it’s a challenge for anyone, you just have to find the ways to switch off.” In addition to Ireland’s Fittest Family, the new season of her radio show Supercharged with Anna Geary kicked off on RTE Radio One last month. Previous topics from last season have included “grief and bereavement, disordered eating and fertility” — and there are even more big topics ahead with this season. Anna told how she hopes to “start normalising conversations when it comes to our health” on the show. She said, “It’s about making sure that people are aware. That’s the big thing about the show, it’s awareness — giving people the tools and knowledge from credible experts and then hearing shared experiences. “I think it’s nice for people to realise that they’re not alone. Whatever they’re going through, whatever they’re suffering — there’s someone who can empathise. “We’ve some big topics to cover this season in the coming weeks. What I really love about Supercharged is that people are so willing to text in share their stories or go into the questions, and that interactive format is quite rare in radio, I think. It’s great that we’re giving them ...

Pep Guardiola’s reigning Premier League champions started aggressively and Foden darted into the United box unmarked to convert Bernardo Silva’s low eighth-minute cross. City are without key midfielder Rodri due to a calf injury. Marcus Rashford has overcome a hamstring problem to start for United. The Sporting News is following the match live and providing live score updates and commentary. Man City vs. Man United live updates, highlights from 188th Manchester derby 30th minute: A rare period of controlled possession in City territory for United. The ball is worked out to Antony, whose cross to the back post scoots out for a goal kick. 28th minute: Fernandes pressers rabidly after Walker strokes a pass across the City defence to Ake, who has to go all the way back to Ederson. No real danger that time, but that’s definitely something United are looking to pounce on. 23rd minute: McTominay plays an utterly honking pass straight to Grealish. He dribbles into the United box and McTominay is one of the crisis management team that manages to avert the danger. Rashford then takes his turn to give the ball straight back to City, Foden runs Malacia and both United full-backs are now on yellow cards. 21st minute: Foden inches away from his second. Silva enjoys himself down the United left again. His cross doesn’t reach Haaland but causes panic anyway. Foden lashes just beyond the top corner. Guardiola thinks he should have done better. Gundogan launches a sumptuous effort, curling around the outside of the United wall. De Gea is a spectator as the ball cannons away off his left upright. 17th minute: Grealish is swaggering his way through the opening stages. He dribbles inside and draws a crude foul from Martinez. De Bruyne and Gundogan like the look of this one on the edge of the D. 16th minute: More slack work at the back from City, but that allows Akanji to dump Rashford on the seat of his shorts, much to the delight of the locals. 15th minute: An untimely slip by Walker gives United half an opening. Sancho finds Eriksen, whose shot under pressure from Gundogan is easily gathered by Ederson. 13th minute: Rashford goes hearing off behind the City backline but Ederson is out in a flash to clear. 12th minute: Dalot, who is on thin ice, gets one-twoed by Grealish and conceded a free-kick in a dangerous position. United get the ball clear as much by accident as by design. 11th minute: Fernandes tries to fashion a United response and finds Rashford. His first touch lets him down and Gundogan gets back to hack clear with his first telling piece of defensive work in this deeper role. 8th minute: GOOOAAAALLLLL!!!!! Foden!!!!!! Phil Foden FIRES Man City ahead! pic.twitter.com/KgH60TPrsT — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 2, 2022 The Manchester man makes the breakthrough on derby day. That passage of play began with Grealish playing a horrible pass across halfway. Akanji had to tidy up by winning a  50-50 on Sancho. There was no such decisive defending from United as Foden darted into the area unaccompanied to emphatically finish Silva’s cross. That’s his 49th City goal and first in the derby. 6th minute: Silva gets down the left again amid suspicions of offside. Grealish tries to fashion a one-two with Haaland but the return pass goes out for a goalkick. 3rd minute: Somehow City don’t lead. Grealish slips a pass beyond the now compromised Dalot. Silva hangs up a cross for Haaland, his header is blocked, De Gea thwarts De Bruyne from the rebound and Silva has his own strike blocked in the goalmouth. 2nd minute: Well, that’s daft. The second foul of the game sees Diogo Dalot get himself a very early yellow card for blundering into Jack Grealish on the left. 1st minute: A first touch for Haaland, if anyone’s playing that game. The City striker drags Varane back into his own half and wins a freekick.  1 min from kickoff: Blue Moon now being belted out, final formalities being attended to. Both teams are wearing black armbands following the football stadium tragedy earlier today in Indonesia. 5 mins from kickoff: The teams are in the tunnel and noise is rumbling around the Etihad Stadium. It’s almost time. 15 mins from kickoff: Our man Joe Wright is at the ground today. He’s complaining about the bright clothes the young people are wearing. Players locked in a very public battle of the most garish warm-up outfits. Think United are edging it pic.twitter.com/HVe7vrKbfi — Joe Wright (@JoeWright004) October 2, 2022 20 mins from kickoff: Dias joined City two years ago this week. He has been a transformative signing and Guardiola’s decision to bench him will get plenty of post-match focus if United are triumphant. But the Portugal international is not playing at the imperious level that saw him quickly become City’s defensive leader, while Akanji and Ake have both been in fine form. Additionally, a lot of pace against this United forward line when there is Rodri for screening cover makes sense. Even so, file Guardiola’s picks for his starting centre-backs under “big call”. 40 mins from kickoff: It’s certainly an early plus for Ten Hag that all the pre-game talk centres on the City XI. He has the luxury of being able to field a winning team once again with the minimum of fuss. Among other things, that shows he has quickly won the argument over Ronaldo’s reduced role. Still, it would be a brave person who bets against CR7 coming off the bench to make an impact if this one remains in the balance with 20 minutes to go. 1 hour from kickoff: That’s confirmed then, no Rodri for City. Perhaps more intriguingly, Ruben Dias is only on the bench alongside the returning Aymeric Laporte, with Nathan Ake partnering Manuel Akanji at centre-back. Your City line-up for the derby! Jack Grealish has been spotted doing some pre-match media duties, so he’s starting for the hosts. One reason for that might be the seeming absence of Rodri from the City squad that got off the team coach a few moments ago. If the Spain international is out, expect Ilkay Gundogan to slot into his role at the base of midfield, with Grealish and Phil Foden flanking Haaland in attack. 1 hr 30 mins from kickoff: It’s tricky to know quite what to expect from United today, largely because they haven’t played a Premier League game for almost a month. They turned their form around very impressively following a dismal start to life under Erik ten Hag, winning four in succession. That run includes home wins over Liverpool and Arsenal but  1 hr 40 mins from kickoff: Here we go then. The big one in Manchester. City’s title defence has started without them completely hitting top gear but avoiding the sort of turbulence that has beset expected challengers Liverpool and Chelsea. Then there is Erling Haaland plundering goals all over the place and relishing his first taste of this fixture. 2 hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of Manchester City vs. Manchester United. Rodri is the standout absentee for City due to a calf problem, with Ilkay Gundogan filling in at the base of midfield. Man City projected lineup (4-3-3): Ederson (GK) — Walker, Akanji, Dias, Cancelo — De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva — Foden, Haaland, Grealish. Marcus Rashford netted twice in the Arsenal win before being withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. However, the England forward is back in training and available to start, meaning only a place on the bench for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is joined among the substitutes by Facundo Pellistri, who makes a Premier League squad for the first time. Harry Maguire (knee) is out. Man Unite...

Source Digital To Introduce Seamless Video/Metaverse Experience In Europe – PR Newswire https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/source-digital-to-introduce-seamless-video-metaverse-experience-in-europe-pr-newswire/ A recently-awarded European patent further solidifies Source as a Web3 Network of Networks. Deploying interactive content within coordinates values across any video and metaverse network. , /PRNewswire/ — Source Digital, Inc. announces the awarding of a European patent that further cements the company’s dominance in interactive video as well as in monetizable aspects of the metaverse. The patent not only covers functionality for activating visual content in video, but at any coordinate in any metaverse Source can enable interactivity for end users, empowering a more personalized, seamless video-metaverse (cross-verse) experience. Source Digital Source Digital already has the technology and IP that is agnostic to audio, video or metaverse – to facilitate personalized SAM’s (Source Activated Moments) designed for user engagement and interactivity around information, socialization, shopping, contextually targeted brands, advertising, and virtually any other extension of interactivity against moments in time. This patent further extends the company’s capability to deploy SAM’s directly correlated to any on-screen visual location in video (2D), metaverse (3D), or augmented reality (3D). Each SAM “coordinate” effectively creates a mapping system allowing end users to touch/click any digital location/object and get an interactive return of information – even buy or share it! Users can also re-experience or cross-link the precise metaverse moment when they originally found it. (Imagine clicking on a shirt and immediately accessing information about the brand, adding it to your cart, and buying or sharing it with a friend; then, jumping right back to the original moment when the item was found.) This patent also provides the ability to match the physical location of an end user (on earth) or digital object (in the metaverse) and identify its real-world coordinates. In all cases, these intersections can trigger additional digital interactive events (similar to the description above). As a bonus feature, the patent also extends the synchronization of metaverse experiences to traditional video. Users can watch a favorite movie and synchronize an in-world experience from that movie. They can also watch a favorite live concert, jumping back and forth from a lean-back physical world to a lean-in immersive virtual world. “We’re thrilled to expand our reach into European markets, with a greater capacity to optimize the user experience for creators, merchants, and advertisers,” shares Source Digital, Inc. Co-Founder/Chief Executive Officer Hank Frecon. “This opportunity enables us to join our advanced technology with the most cutting-edge online capabilities, bringing the metaverse and video alive like never before.” With 9 US patents already secured, Source Digital has established itself as the foremost innovator in the next generation of advertising and e-commerce. In 2022 alone, the visionary tech company pioneered groundbreaking partnerships with both the National Hockey League and key tourism departments across the nation. Implementing its next-generation ad tech solutions, consumers discovered an entirely customized viewer or visitor experience while brands found new ways to expand their audience. The July announcement of Source Digital’s partnership with Metaverse Investments Ltd. further solidified the company’s leadership in the rapidly expanding Web3 industry. Now, the awarding of an 11th patent allows this forward-thinking tech team to provide an even more personalized experience to the European market. Source Digital’s advanced technology systems will be able to sync a SAM to a piece of content/object within the metaverse at a specific moment in time, enabling the company to identify and synchronize all data points. This way, users can ascertain their location within both the metaverse and video. While Source Digital is pursuing similar patents in the US and elsewhere, this initial European grant will allow for further development of future iterations. Learn more at SourceDigital.net. Hacking Your Room For Sleep | Inquirer Business INQUIRER.net
Hacking Your Room For Sleep | Inquirer Business – INQUIRER.net https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hacking-your-room-for-sleep-inquirer-business-inquirer-net/ Pillow firmness according to sleep position —casper.com At no other point in recent history have we been so preoccupied with our sleep. For many years, what mattered most was the magical eight-hour duration, the basic prescription for rest and restoration. But today, the science of sleep has become more elaborate given our complex and hurried lives. The focus has become to sleep better, not just longer, with the quality, depth and continuity of sleep all ranking in the criteria of a good night’s regeneration as the cradle of our well-being. Sleep trackers like smart watches and Fitbits act like watchmen for our snooze hours, but while they track, they do not enhance. Sleeping well is largely left to the habits and surroundings of an individual. As I firmly believe in changing the things that you can for a better quality of life, I’d recommend rearranging, modifying and tweaking your bedroom to be on top of your list. Cooler temperatures Keep your room cool at 15.6 to 19.4 degrees Celsius. This is the prescribed sleep temperature for adults. Studies show that cooler temperatures promote the production of melatonin, help you drop into sleep faster, and help the body achieve restorative deep sleep. A ceiling fan is usually quieter than other fans, has a wider coverage and better air distribution. Here, growth hormones are released, muscles and tissues are repaired, and our bodies clear out wastes and toxins. If nightly airconditioning hurts your pocket, consider the use of a ceiling fan which not only provides better airflow, but is usually quieter than other fan types. Keep your bed height closer to the floor, where cooler air settles. Comfortable mattress, beddings Make sure to have a comfortable mattress and beddings. A good mattress should cradle your back and neck to reduce any neck, shoulder, upper back and lower back stresses. There are no rules for hardness of softness, the choice will depend on your body and sleep position. Soft material and cool pastel shades of blue simulate a cooling and relaxing environment for sleep.—Will Taylor (bright.bazaa) and Whitesands (mydomaine.com) For pillows, harder pillows will support your neck better when sleeping on your side. On your back, softer pillows will keep from straining your neck. If your space can accommodate it, use a king-size mattress to allow for more movement. Bear in mind, too, that memory foam mattresses are usually warmer while the traditional spring-based ones provide better airflow intense, or cooler. Choose wisely. Regulate your bedroom lights Your bedroom’s artificial lights should be kept to a warm temperature and located at a level below your standing eye-level. Avoid using ceiling lights. If you must, keep them dim and yellow. Studies show that the kind of light you are exposed to throughout the day affects the cycle of your sleep, hence, stay away from blue spectrum lights found largely in daylighting and electronic devices in the early evenings. And during sleep time, white lights are sure to sabotage your slumber so keep the use of electronic gadgets minimal and stow them away after use. Invest in acoustics Reducing the amount of noise transmitted into your sleeping spaces can greatly enhance sleep quality. While you may not want to completely block off the noise for security reasons, installing trims around door openings, door bottom gaps, installing acoustical curtains, or even adding a second layer of windows if you live in an excessively noisy neighborhood, can all prolong or greatly enhance the quality of sleep Wrap your room or accentuate in cool colors Studies have shown that bedrooms in cool pastel shades—especially light blues, greens and yellows—are conducive to sleep. They visually cool you down and are very calming to the eyes. Avoid strong and bold shades of blue, and do not use warm colors especially the stronger shades of red and orange which are both visually jarring and connote activity and restlessness. Minimize visual clutter Out of sight, out of mind! Clutter stimulates the brain away from a restful state. If you have a worktable in your bedroom, locate it outside of your visual field when viewed from sitting or lying position on your bed. Keep your books and other items inside your night tables, including your electronic gadgets. If you have accessories, artwork, shelving, and other décor, make sure they are properly arranged and are free of anything that can annoy you visually, or trigger you emotionally. Shield your eyes from morning light Our optic nerves are very sensitive and a small stream of light can wake us at the crack of dawn. While eye masks or covers are practical, they can sometimes be uncomfortable and inconvenient. Make sure to have a layer of black out curtains or shades, paying attention to their edges where small gaps will allow light to creep in. Ensure that there are sufficient overlaps, or channels to enclose the edges and seal off the light. Window treatments should be able to seal off light, enabling one to sleep longer hours.—roomdesign.com Establish a rhythm for sleep Science shows that the time you wake up is more important than the time you sleep. To regulate your length and quality of sleep, head to bed and make sure you set your alarm to ring at the same time every morning. Worried about not getting enough? With a regular wake time, your body will adjust, and your sleep will become more efficient. Our waking-hour activities should be dictated by our sleep cycles, and not the other way around. Productive and enjoyable days can only happen when they are supported by a good night’s sleep that may or may not be eight hours long, but has quality, depth and continuity made possible by a well-crafted environment. Arbitrum Airdrop May Be Coming Soon Heres What You Need To Know Cryptonews
Arbitrum Airdrop May Be Coming Soon – Here’s What You Need To Know – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/arbitrum-airdrop-may-be-coming-soon-heres-what-you-need-to-know-cryptonews/ Source: Arbitrum Major Ethereum scaling solution Arbitrum is reportedly preparing for its much-anticipated airdrop. In light of this, pundits have shared some useful insight on the nature of the airdrop and possible eligibility prerequisites. Anonymous crypto pundit DeFi Riddler took to Twitter to share some important tips on how to claim the Arbitrum airdrop in a lengthy thread of over 28 tweets. Within the thread, they highlighted the nature of the airdrop and some steps proponents can take to increase their eligibility chances. The Arbitrum team has not shared any information on the total worth of the airdrop. Notwithstanding, according to DeFi Riddler, the airdrop is likely to be worth around $50,000 due to Optimism’s (OP) airdrop total worth of $50,000.  Additionally, the community should expect Arbitrum to launch its token soon, before the airdrop kicks off. As the distribution period for the airdrop appears to be around the corner, DeFi Riddler listed some likely eligibility criteria in a four-point analysis. The first point involves the Arbitrum Odyssey Campaign. Proponents who took part in the Odyssey Campaign and haven’t claimed their NFTs yet are advised to connect their MetaMask wallet on Arbitrum to claim the token. A link in this regard was provided. Claimable period lies between June 28, 18:00 and October 30, 17:59 (GMT+1). Notwithstanding, participants who did not get the NFT should head to Stratos NFT – an NFT marketplace on Arbitrum – to purchase a token. This will give them a role on Arbitrum Discord channel. After purchasing or claiming the NFT, proponents should bridge some of their ETH tokens from the Ethereum mainnet to the Arbitrum One Network. After a successful bridge, proponents are advised to interact with dApps on the Arbitrum network by using them for several transactions on multiple days. Transactions mustn’t involve large funds. Arbitrum is one of the most successful Ethereum L2 solutions Thirdly, proponents should prioritize completing Arbitrum tasks on Discord. They would need a wallet and a Discord account for this. Funds ranging from $5 to $10 worth of ETH is enough to engage in the tasks. Users who complete the tasks receive rewards and increase their chances of receiving the upcoming airdrop.  Conclusively, active participation on the Ethereum network is likely to increase one’s chances of getting the airdrop. In this regard, proponents are advised to hold some ETH tokens, regardless of the amount, and get involved in on-chain activities. Users can also vote on available proposals on the project’s snapshot. Airdrops are free tokens distributed by a project to numerous early adopters’ wallet addresses as a way of promoting the project. Airdropped tokens are likely to be minute in amount due to the multiple users they will be reaching. Notwithstanding, a price surge on these tokens could significantly increase their worth overtime. Arbitrum is likely to begin its airdrop soon, and the scaling solution’s prominence is indicative of the airdrop’s significance. Arbitrum is essentially a layer-2 solution on the Ethereum blockchain.  The platform seeks to increase Ethereum’s transaction speed and cut down its fees by using optimistic rollups. Arbitrum is one of the most successful Ethereum L2 scaling solutions with over $1B in its total value locked (TVL).

JD.com Founder And Billionaire Liu Settles U.S. Rape Civil Suit – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/jd-com-founder-and-billionaire-liu-settles-u-s-rape-civil-suit-reuters/ SHANGHAI, Oct 2 (Reuters) – Billionaire Richard Liu, founder of one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms JD.com, has settled a civil suit brought by former University of Michigan student Liu Jingyao, who had accused him of rape. The suit was part of a long-running legal battle between Richard Liu and Liu Jingyao, who was a 21-year-old student in 2018 when she said Richard Liu raped her after an evening of dinner and drinks. A statement from the lawsuit’s parties, and provided to Reuters by JD.com, said: “The incident between Ms. Jingyao Liu and Mr. Richard Liu in Minnesota in 2018 resulted in a misunderstanding that has consumed substantial public attention and brought profound suffering to the parties and their families.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com It went on to confirm that the case, which last week began jury selection proceedings in a Minnesota court, has been settled, but did not disclose the conditions of the settlement. JD.com declined to comment further on the case, while lawyers for Richard Liu and Liu Jingyao did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Richard Liu is a high-profile billionaire in China who founded and until earlier this year was chief executive of JD.com. He handed the CEO reins to Xu Lei in April. Liu Jingyao filed the civil suit in April 2019, four months after prosecutors declined to press criminal charges against Richard Liu. The case heavily dented Liu’s reputation in China and put scrutiny on his control of the e-commerce giant. In 2019, he resigned from the advisory body to China’s parliament, citing “personal reasons”. The case had also galvanised many women in China, where issues such as sexual harassment and assault had for years been rarely broached in public until the #MeToo movement took root in 2018, though it has faced online censorship and official pushback since. Supporters of Liu Jingyao on Chinese social media called the settlement a win for China’s #MeToo movement. News of the settlement quickly began trending on Chinese social media on Sunday, with more than 110 million people reading news on the topic. OPINION | GREG HARTON: Exploring Local History Is Vital To Region’s Present, Future – Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/opinion-greg-harton-exploring-local-history-is-vital-to-regions-present-future-northwest-arkansas-democrat-gazette/ In the ongoing love/hate relationship I’ve got with Facebook, perhaps one of the features I appreciate the most is its ability to pluck photos and events from the past and show them to me today. It’s the same with services such as Google Photos and Apple Photos. On Friday, one of them treated me to a visit back to 2009 when my youngest son was playing soccer in Fayetteville’s Parks and Recreation program and my oldest was playing flag football with the Boys & Girls Club. They are, respectively, a senior at Fayetteville High School and a sophomore at the University of Arkansas today. It’s like my own little history book. When I was their age, all I was focused on was either the present or the future. As I get older, the past has as much fascination, and sometimes more, whether it’s George Washington and the American Revolution or the Fulbrights of Fayetteville or the Waltons moving to Bentonville. Thankfully, there are great people involved in recounting and preserving history around these parts, including such institutions as the Washington County Historical Society, which by the way holds its annual meeting and distinguished citizen presentation from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Mount Sequoyah’s Bailey Center ($15 tickets). Or the Benton County Historical Society, which at 4 p.m. next Sunday holds its annual Bean Supper at its offices at 306 N.W. Second St. in Bentonville ($10 tickets). The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale and the Rogers Historical Museum are preservation mainstays, but so are smaller operations in towns from Prairie Grove to Gravette, from Siloam Springs to Eureka Springs. YouTube can be a great resource for local and state history, too, but like everything online, you’ve got to consider the source of who made the video you’re watching. Local historians, such as Fayetteville’s J.B. Hogan, make great contributions to local history videos. Last week, Fayetteville had the first of a set of “input” sessions as the city government tries to figure out what its policies ought to be regarding historic preservation. It’s always a balancing act, weighing the needs of modernity in a growing region against the desire to prevent the loss of significant structures from decades or centuries past. Throw in property rights vs. regulation and preservation can become a bit of a hot potato. Fayetteville also recently took a step toward recognizing important history involving people who, in decades past, haven’t necessarily been in a position to have their stories told. Minority populations have made contributions to the region’s history. Northwest Arkansas history can’t be fully told without them. Disagreements will be part of efforts to mark historical figures and events. I personally wouldn’t have given up Archibald Yell Boulevard for a street named after formerly enslaved Nelson Hackett. In my view, it was vitally important to add Hackett’s story to Fayetteville’s recognition of history. I wouldn’t have done it by subtracting Yell’s historic connection to the city. But the important thing is the ongoing effort to convey local history, to inform residents and visitors alike, to give the people who love Northwest Arkansas a foundation of knowledge about everything that has been part of getting the region to where it is in 2022. That will need to include exploration of successes and failures, the rights and the wrongs, the good guys and the bad guys — with recognition that few people will fit entirely into either of those categories. One final thought: Where can historical markers have a high chance of being read? How many roadside markers across the state are passed by hundreds of times a day? But why not put more of them on our growing trail system, which is heavily used, but in such a way people will be more willing to stop and read some local history?

Here Are 10 Ideas For The Adventurous Bucket-List Traveler TheTravel
Here Are 10 Ideas For The Adventurous Bucket-List Traveler TheTravel
Here Are 10 Ideas For The Adventurous Bucket-List Traveler – TheTravel https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/here-are-10-ideas-for-the-adventurous-bucket-list-traveler-thetravel/ There are all different types of travelers out there, from broke backpackers to luxurious honeymooners to the one that only joins organized, curated tour groups. Then… there are the serious adventure bucket-list tickers, constantly trying to outdo themselves and everyone around them by going on the most epic of adventures. If you fall into the latter category, this list is for you, with 10 ideas to spark some inspiration for your bucket list. 10 Visit All 7 Continents If you’re a bucket list traveler, it’s likely this is already on your list, but in case it’s not, here’s your reminder that it should be! All seven continents include North America, Oceania, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the least visited one of Antarctica. Start planning out when you can go to each one, and if your budget is tight, visit them in the low season. Pro-tip: the Northern Hemisphere’s winter is the Southern Hemisphere’s summer, and vice-versa, meaning spots such as Brazil and Ecuador are bound to be packed in January and February but likely less busy in months such as May and June. Another pro-tip: Antarctica can only be visited from November-March. 9 Visit 7 New Wonders Of The World The 7 New Wonders of the World include the Taj Mahal in Agra, India; the Colosseum in Rome, Italy; The Great Wall of China in Beijing, China; Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Petra in Petra, Jordan; Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico; and Machu Picchu in Cusco, Peru. Not many people can say they’ve visited all seven new wonders of the world, and before the list changes (which it frequently does), jump on the bandwagon and start planning how to see all of them. 8 Climb Mount Kilimanjaro If you want serious bragging rights, nothing will top casually bringing up that you hiked Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa’s highest peak. You’d be surprised to know you don’t need a ton of physical training to successfully hike Kilimanjaro; you likely need some form of anti-altitude sickness pill, as well as serious mental stamina. Note that it is required to hire a guide for Kilimanjaro, and it will likely cost in the $1500-$2000 range just for the guide, and you are expected to tip on top of it. That price might sound steep, but hiking Kilimanjaro takes an average of 6-8 days, and that price includes all of your meals, your sleeping tent, and equipment, as well as porters carrying all of your stuff. Go for an adrenaline-infused hike with the best of the best. 7 Get Scuba Certified In The Great Barrier Reef There’s no better way to really get away from it all than by scuba diving underwater and joining the magical world of the sea. If you are looking to get certified in one of the best places in the world for diving, The Great Barrier Reef should be on your bucket list. You’ll have to spend four days learning diving and safety techniques, with the first two days being in a classroom with an outdoor pool and the last two days being in the ocean itself. Be prepared to swim alongside turtles, and clownfish, and see exciting sights such as large clams and reef sharks taking a nap (they sleep during the day). After four days, as long as you follow protocol and successfully complete all of your tasks, you’ll officially be PADI-scuba certified at one of the most epic places to do so. 6 Visit The 7 Wonders Of Nature The new seven wonders of the world is not the only list that deserves attention. Have you heard of the seven wonders of nature? The list includes Komodo Island in Indonesia, Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, Jeju Island in Korea, The Amazon in South America (spanning several countries), the Puerto Princesa Underground River in The Philippines, Iguazu Falls in Argentina and Brazil, and Table Mountain in South Africa. Some of these locations overlap with the 7 new wonders of the world, so you might as well kill two birds with one stone and see them! 5 Visit Every Country In The World Did you know more people have been to space than those who have visited every country in the world? Though people in the past have accomplished this very difficult and tricky feat, recent additions to the “every-country” list are Lexie Alford, Drew Binsky, Cassie de Pecol, Jessica Nabongo, and Alvaro Rojas, to name a few. Visiting every country includes hassles like finding funding, obtaining hard-to-get visas, and traveling to places with serious political conflict, but if you’re a hungry traveler looking for the ultimate adventure, this is probably the one. 4 Visit “Forbidden” Places Are you less interested in popular vacation spots such as Paris and the Bahamas and keener on the road less traveled? There are some places that receive very little tourism, either due to instability or just not having the infrastructure to market themselves as touristic destinations. If you’re looking for a truly forbidden getaway, head to somewhere like Socotra Island in Yemen, Iraqi Kurdistan, or even North Korea, though keep in mind Americans can no longer visit North Korea due to the death of Otto Warmbier in 2017. 3 Visit 2 (Or More) Countries In One Day There are a few unique places in the world where it’s possible to multi-country hop in a singular day. Head to northern Thailand, and hop over to Laos and Myanmar in the span of a day (though prepare a lot of time for border crossings). Take a stroll from southern Brazil into Paraguay. Better yet, visit Iguazu Falls (pictured above), where one side is in Argentina, and one side is in Brazil. Italy has two landlocked nations within its borders, The Vatican and San Marino. Take an Eastern European road trip, and you can easily hit Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, and possibly Montenegro and/or Bosnia and Herzegovina all in a day. 2 Take a Foreign Road-Trip via Kaitlyn Rosati What’s better than having the ultimate freedom to choose where to go when on a trip abroad? Be in the driver’s seat of your own adventure, literally, and rent a car abroad. A foreign road trip, especially in a place like New Zealand or Iceland, where driving is somewhat of a necessity, is an adventure that is not to be missed. If you really want to go for it, rent a camper van and sleep in your car as well. 1 Break A Travel Guinness World Record This is a tough one with a lot of logistics involved, but can you think of anything more epic than being a Guinness World Record holder? Current records include visiting the most countries in a singular day with 19 countries visited in 23 hours and 33 minutes, being the youngest person to visit every country in the world at age 21, visiting the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in a day (visiting 23), and plenty more. Take a look at Guinness World Records, and try to break one that already exists, or create your own! %

What Is Healthy Aging? MsnNOW
What Is Healthy Aging? – MsnNOW https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-is-healthy-aging-msnnow/ September is healthy aging month, an annual observance that is reaffirmation that, regardless of age, no one is getting younger and we are, (hopefully), as the old expression goes, “aging gracefully.” © Courtesy Ken Johnson, President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. In a recent interview, a 105-year old farmer in Minnesota attributed his longevity to maintaining an active mind and body. For the second year in a row, America’s life expectancy declined to 76.1 years; the lowest since 1996. The two year drop of 2.7 years is the largest decline in 100 years. Factors included in the decline range from COVID-19 to accidental deaths, drug overdoses and an unhealthy lifestyle. On the other hand, 97,000 Americans have achieved the distinction of being centenarians, a term denoting more than 100 years in age, the most of any nation on earth. Men should take note that 85 percent of centenarians are women. As a healthcare professional, I am often asked for an opinion on healthy living. Although some may say genetics is the ultimate factor in our longevity, we can all slow potential medical problems by mere changes in lifestyle. So, if cardiovascular issues are common in your family tree, it should be a warning sign that exercise and healthy eating habits may reduce the chances of that occurring to you. Driving to work early each morning, it is encouraging to observe Hutchinsonians starting their day with a brisk walk. And, in my trips to a local gym, it is apparent that more people are starting their day with a workout. There are days I almost want to say “power to you, and keep it up.” Medical journals are unanimous in stating smart food choices, a good night’s sleep of seven to nine hours, avoidance of tobacco products and no more than a moderate consumption of alcohol are important factors in longevity. Many non-consumption factors that are often overlooked deal with the mind and include everything from adaptability to change, maintaining a sense of humor, determination, optimism, and maintaining social relationships. It is never too late to take control of your health, so let’s all make the commitment to do so today, and by next September we will be reaping the benefits of a healthier and happier life. Vikings at Saints (London)  Time: Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET (NFL Network), stream on fuboTV (try for free)  Open: PK Current: Vikings -3 Latest Odds: New Orleans Saints +3.5 “Get your tea and crumpets ready because this Sunday marks the first week of the season where we’ll be getting a game in London. I will probably be putting coffee grounds on my crumpets and mixing my tea with Red Bull because this game kicks off way earlier than I want my football kicking off. … Now, I’m not sure if O’Connell has ever been to London, but this sounds like the worst idea ever. There is a six-hour difference between London time and the time zone the Vikings are usually in. If they usually go to bed at 11 p.m. in Minnesota, that means they won’t be going to bed until 5 a.m. in London. As the resident time zone expert here at CBSSports.com, I’m not sure this is the best path of action. …  “I love a good vacation as much as anyone, but I think I’m going to take the team that’s treating this like a business trip. I’m going to take the Vikings here, but I would like to point out that there’s a 49% chance this pick will totally backfire due to the fact that O’Connell’s crazy time zone plan will throw the Vikings off so badly that they sleepwalk through the entire first half and get outscored 21-3. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen, though, because I’m rolling with Minnesota here.” — CBS Sports writer and Pick Six Podcast super friend John Breech why he is taking the Vikings when they take on the Saints across the pond.   Browns at Falcons Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS), stream on Paramount+ (click here) Open: Browns -2.5 Current: Browns -1 Latest Odds: Atlanta Falcons +1 “Myles Garrett’s status is uncertain as he recovers from a car accident. Cleveland remains without Jadeveon Clowney. So it looks like another strong day for the Atlanta offense, which ranks ninth at 5.9 yards per play. The Falcons won’t be able to stop Cleveland’s run game, but Marcus Mariota, Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson and Drake London should make enough plays to lose by a touchdown or less.” — SportsLine expert Larry Hartstein on why he is teasing the Falcons from +1.5 to +7.5. However. this is not Hartstein’s official teaser play for Week 4. To see that, go check out SportsLine. Commanders at Cowboys Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox), stream on fuboTV (try for free)  Open: Cowboys -6 Current: Cowboys -3 Latest Odds: Dallas Cowboys -3 “Washington was awful in all aspects of the game last week, but Dallas is playing on a short week. Even so, the big mismatch here is the Dallas defensive front against the Washington offensive line. That line was bad last week. It will be here as well. The Cowboys will win behind some turnovers forced by that line and a good ground game.” — CBS Sports Senior NFL analyst Pete Prisco on why he is picking the Cowboys to cover the -3 spread at home over Washington.  Seahawks at Lions Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox), stream on fuboTV (try for free)  Open: Lions -1 Current: Lions -3.5 Latest Odds: Detroit Lions -3.5 “The Lions have been a fantastic bet under head coach Dan Campbell. Throughout his tenure dating to last season, Detroit has covered 70% of its games and is 3-0 ATS to begin the 2022 campaign. The Lions play each opponent tough and probably should have pulled out a win last week in Minnesota. This week, they get an easier opponent in the Seahawks, who are 0-2 after upsetting the Broncos in an emotional Week 1 matchup at home.  “Even with star running back D’Andre Swift not playing in this game due to injury, there is a clear mismatch between Detroit’s offense and Seattle’s defense. The Lions offense ranks seventh in the league in DVOA, while the Seahawks defense ranks 30th in the NFL. Detroit’s defense hasn’t been anything to write home about, either, but its offensive ceiling is higher in my eyes than what the Seahawks will be bringing to Ford Field.” — CBS Sports NFL writer Tyler Sullivan explaining why laying the points and rolling with the Lions is one of his Locks of the Week.  Titans at Colts Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox), stream on fuboTV (try for free)  Open: Colts -3 Current: Colts -3.5 Latest Odds: Indianapolis Colts -3.5 “The Colts saved their season last week with an impressive win over one of the best teams in the league in the Kansas City Chiefs. But was it actually that impressive? The Chiefs did everything they could to lose that game, from muffing punts (which led to a three-play, 4-yard TD drive for Indy) to missing field goals to committing penalties in the worst situations and then Patrick Mahomes throwing just his fourth September interception ever. The Colts needed a 16-play, eight-minute TD drive to go ahead with just 24 seconds left on the clock. I certainly am not convinced their offense is back on track, but the pressure is now off to get their first win. “The Titans took a two-TD lead into halftime against the Raiders while reaching the end zone on each of their first three drives, but then barely hung on from there as the offense disappeared in the second half. They certainly have their own questions to answer, but I believe the offense is moving in the right direction, with Derrick Henry getting more involved in the passing game and Robert Woods starting to get the ball. Jeffery Simmons is a problem for a Colts offensive line that isn’t playing as well as it has in years past, as well. I believe the Titans have the better coach and quarterback at this point, and because of that, I’m surprised this line is north of 3 and possibly even tipping to 4 in the market.” — R.J. White, SportsLine’s No. 1 NFL expert, on why he is taking the Titans in his SuperContest pick. To read the rest of his picks for the weekend, head over to SportsLine. Bears at Giants Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox), stream on fuboTV (try for free)  Open: Giants -3 Current: Giants -3 Latest Odds: New York Giants -3 “I think Justin Fields has franchise quarterback potential, but he’s not going to show that potential in this offense or with the weapons he has at his disposal. This was a reality I accepted before the season even began. Fields has 297 passing yards on the year. To put that into perspective, there have been 20 individual 300-yard passing games in the NFL this season. The Bears are going to run the ball on offense. “I don’t think the Giants are a playoff team, but Saquon Barkley appears to be back. He’s second in the NFL in rushing yards with 317, and actually leads the NFL with 408 scrimmage yards. The Giants offensive line is going to have to perform better on Sunday, but I like that this game is at home for New York, and that Fields is 4-8-1 ATS (33%) in his career. That’s ranks worst among quarterbacks since last season (minimum 10 starts).” — CBS Sports NFL expert Jordan Dajani on why he likes the Giants -3 at home against the Bears in Week 4.  Jaguars at Eagles Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS), stream on Paramount+ (click here) Open: Eagles -6.5 Current: Eagles -6.5 Latest Odds: Philadelphia Eagles -6.5 “I’m highly encouraged by how the Jaguars have looked to begin the season, and I still think there is some value in them to win the AFC South at +200 and especially with Doug Pederson to COY at +600. They are coming off an impressive win on the road against the Chargers and could very well be 3-0 to start the year. That said, I’m fading them this week for a team that I believe is a legitimate Super Bowl threat in the Eagles.  “As impressive as Jalen Hurts has been as a passer (340 yards and three passing touchdowns last week), their defense is what’s making them particularly dangerous. Philadelphia was able to sack Carson Wentz nine times last week. Over the last two games, Nick Sirianni’s defense has allowed just 15 total points and is 2-0 ATS. Getting them under a touchdown at Lincoln Financial Field (one of the better home-field advantages in the NFL) is the way to lean here, no matter how high I may be on Jacksonville’s long-term prospects.” — CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan explaining why he’s taking the Eagles to cover at home against the surging Jags as one of his five Locks of the Week.  Jets at Steelers Time: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS), stream on Paramount+ (click here) Open: Steelers -4 Current: Steelers -3.5 Latest Odds: Pittsburgh Steelers -3.5 The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, enters Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season on an incredible 139-103 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates to the 2017 season. Incels In The Metaverse – The American Conservative https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/incels-in-the-metaverse-the-american-conservative/ Culture Incels in the Metaverse Don’t Worry, Darling seems confused about which world is a natural order and which a dangerous lie imposed by force. Olivia Wilde, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine in ‘Don’t Worry, Darling’. (Warner Bros. via IMDb) Warning: The following contains major spoilers for the film Don’t Worry, Darling (2022). Jordan B. Peterson is in touch with his emotions. The emeritus professor of psychology first rose to internet stardom in a simpler time, when online clips of crazy left-wingers still just showed them throwing hissy fits on campus (not looting convenience stores en masse or burning cities to the ground). In the latest viral video, though, it’s Peterson himself who’s been reduced to tears. Right near the end of a 45-minute interview this week, British journalist Piers Morgan asked Peterson about recent comments by actress-turned-director Olivia Wilde. Wilde’s latest film, Don’t Worry, Darling, features a charismatic villain portrayed by Chris Pine. In a recent Q&A about the movie, Wilde explained that she had “based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.” She described that community, further, as “disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women…[who] believe that society has now robbed them—that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place.” Wilde continued: “But this guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain aspects of their movement because he’s a former professor, he’s an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously.” “Is that you?” Morgan asked. “Are you the intellectual hero to these people?” Peterson answered flatly: “Sure, why not? People have been after me for a long time because I’ve been speaking to disaffected young men. What a terrible thing to do that is.” He took a long pause while fighting back tears, and then: I thought the marginalized were supposed to have a voice…. It’s very difficult to understand how demoralized people are, and certainly many young men are in that category. And you get these casual insults—“these incels”—what does that mean? These men, they don’t know how to make themselves attractive to women, who are very picky—and good for them; women, be picky. That’s your gift, man. Demand high standards from your men. Fair enough. But all these men who are alienated…they’re lonesome, and they don’t know what to do. And everyone piles abuse on them. I am not sure that “incels” as such really exist, but there is no doubt something very rotten in the way men and women interact today. Partly this is relational, a problem with the dynamics themselves; but it is also founded in the respective crises of men and women in the postmodern world, in misconceptions of identity and nature. Peterson belongs to a peculiar class of intellectuals—present on the right for as long as it has existed—who recognize the root of social ills in the failure to find meaning, but fail to grasp (or even ask) what a recovery of such meaning would look like in substance and practice. Peterson in particular has always been focused on the structures and processes of meaning, dating back to his early academic works. And so the object of his later thought has been something like a reified order. But it is also a minimal order: not the reconfiguration of human society into conformity with divine law; just the moral imperative to clean your room. Peterson, like Morgan, is a reactionary liberal: he hopes to restore some of the virtues of the premodern and early modern worlds without moving beyond or against the social and political arrangements of late modernity. If he wants to turn back the clock at all, it’s not by very much. When asked what he found admirable in England, he pointed to the common law, the tradition of free speech, and self-effacing humor. Maybe he doesn’t have all the answers. (He doesn’t.) But what real harm has Jordan Peterson done? If there is a genuine problem here, it’s hard to locate the fault with the professor. So it’s worth turning to Olivia Wilde—and to her very strange new film. Don’t Worry, Darling has drawn unfavorable comparisons to Get Out, the 2017 Jordan Peele flick that set off the current craze over social-commentary horror. Don’t Worry, Darling at least has this going in its favor: it achieves some modest success in its efforts at atmospheric horror, whereas Get Out wound up laugh-out-loud funny every time it reached for a scare. Wilde’s film is especially clever in its use of sound to that effect. But Get Out and its follow-ons have been bad not just because they fail to scare, and not just because they fail as stories, but because they are all remarkably heavy-handed, remarkably clunky works of far-left propaganda. On this front, Wilde outpaces the competition by a mile. Don’t Worry, Darling broadcasts like the product of a very troubled mind. It follows happy, carefree housewife Alice (portrayed by Florence Pugh) as she begins to ask unwelcome questions about her cartoonishly idyllic setup. Alice lives with her husband, Jack (Harry Styles), in a midcentury company town called Victory, California. Victory is run by Frank—Chris Pine’s Peterson-esque villain—the brilliant but mysterious head of an unidentified enterprise. Every day, the men drive off in beautiful cars to work at Victory Headquarters. The women ride a trolley into town to shop, expensing everything to their husbands’ accounts. They return home to cook, clean, and take care of other business. Those who have kids welcome them home off the school bus every afternoon. A series of events set off by Alice’s former friend Margaret, who lost her son in the desert beyond Victory and now seems to have lost her mind, causes Alice’s life to unravel. She draws first the attention and then the anger of the enigmatic Frank—who has Peterson’s charm, his habit of talking with his hands, a version of his soft Canadian English, and all the cunning brutality Wilde must imagine the professor to possess. He even speaks often, in a kind of lowbrow Peterson ripoff, of the need for men to choose order over chaos. Alice becomes his girlboss nemesis, intent on exposing the lie behind the seeming utopia of Victory. Pugh had an impressive understated-horror turn in Ari Aster’s masterful Midsommar (2019), so she ought to have had the chops for this kind of role. As Alice, though, she fell flat—equal parts unconvincing and unlikable. That wasn’t her fault. In the film’s third act, the reason for all the weirdness and inconsistency becomes clear: Wilde was building to a ridiculous final plot twist. Victory is a simulation. In the real world, Alice was a successful surgeon. She even had a smartphone. Jack was her deadbeat husband, poorly dressed with a patchy beard, who spent his days at home listening to podcasts. One day, when Alice refused to have sex with Jack after a 30-hour shift, he knocked her out and placed her in the simulation against her will. Frank, we learn, operates this whole virtual reality; the other men are all like Jack, and the women (with at least one exception) are all prisoners like Alice. It is a less-than-subtle commentary on the domestic oppression women supposedly endured up through the middle of the twentieth century. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Wilde’s delusion is just how hackneyed it all is. Men are evil. Housewives are oppressed. The goods of family life are all illusory. This is no groundbreaking radicalism; it is what feminism always has been, and always will be. Subscribe Today Get weekly emails in your inbox But it’s also worth noting just how bleak is the vision of liberation Wilde offers: if only you could see beyond the veil of domesticity, you too could break into the world of 30-hour shifts and soul-crushing exhaustion. You, too, could find yourself tied to a sloppy bum—a man deprived of masculinity because he is deprived of a masculine society—who has all of the vices and none of the virtues of the men in the simulation. You, too, could live in a dark urban apartment instead of a beautiful suburban house. You, too, could hate your husband (who deserves it). You, too, could find yourself bizarrely mismatched, in one way or another, to every aspect of your life—disaffected, demoralized, and alienated, to use Peterson’s words. The great irony here is that Wilde seems confused about which world is the natural state of men and women and which is a dangerous lie imposed by force. In the end of Don’t Worry, Darling, Alice finds her way out of the illusion. We hear her, in the movie’s final moment, wake up and take one first, gasping breath in the real world. God willing, her creator may just one day do the same.

O-Zone: Slow The Roll Jaguars.com
O-Zone: Slow The Roll – Jaguars.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/o-zone-slow-the-roll-jaguars-com/ JACKSONVILLE – Let’s get to it … Gero from Wenden, Germany Hello, John. If I’m not wrong, we played the two games we won with white jerseys. For Sunday against Philadelphia, the white tops were chosen again. A good omen? Also, the players apparently said in the locker room that they want to get a win for Doug Pederson. I’m not big on uniform-based omens, superstitions or witches’ brews. My father used to keep his glasses in a certain place when we watched Washington games, and we both sort of believed the positioning mattered in the outcome. This system worked well in 1991 when the team was one of the best of the modern era and worked less well the next season when a veteran team suddenly became an aging one. My wife has worn a black shirt with a Jaguars logo the past two Fridays and hasn’t watched the Jaguars play Sunday. She firmly believes if she watches Sunday’s game, the Jaguars will lose. This is silly thinking from a woman typically not given to silliness. If Jaguars players believe they play well in white jerseys, I suppose it could help. Until it doesn’t. And yes … Jaguars players want to get a victory Sunday for Head Coach Doug Pederson, who was the head coach in Philadelphia from 2016-2020. Eagles players also want to get a victory. The Pederson-versus-his-old-team thing is a cool storyline. If the Jaguars win, it will be played up. If they lose, it won’t have mattered much. That’s typically how these things go. JR from The Squatchlands What are the odds the ’72 Dolphins will be popping champagne this weekend? Members of the 1972 Dolphins – the only team in NFL history to finish the regular season and postseason unbeaten – famously “pop” champagne each season when the NFL’s last unbeaten team loses. The Eagles are the NFL’s last unbeaten team this season. I’m bad at odds. I think the Eagles will win because they’re good, healthy and playing at home – and because I expect quarterback Jalen Hurts to strain the Jaguars’ defense in a way the unit hasn’t faced yet. I expect the Jaguars’ offense to not quiiiite be as efficient as last week because it’s difficult for a young team to be consistent enough to get into the 30s on the road against good teams in back-to-back weeks. But while I expect the Eagles to win, the Jaguars are playing well enough that I wouldn’t be surprised if they win. So, I suppose I think there’s a decent chance the ’72 Dolphins will pop champagne Sunday, but I sure wouldn’t guarantee it. Bo from Winter Springs, FL Remember all the preseason chatter about how it was the same old Jags? And how people were saying that in training camp that the Jags’ bad offense against the Jags’ bad defense would be us having high expectations and then disappointment again? And many people getting so upset about the “whole” game instead of focusing on the first quarter where we played better than every team we faced until the backups and guys who are no longer on the team played? Those were fun days. Were they? Bill from Hammock, FL Zone, our first three games have been against fairly immobile quarterbacks. This week we are facing a very mobile one. How big of an issue, if any, do you see? This is a big issue. Hurts indeed is the most versatile quarterback the Jaguars will have faced this season. Teams must account for his running ability and none of the Eagles’ first three opponents really have stopped him or the Eagles’ offense this season. I think the Jaguars have the skill set at linebacker with outside linebackers Travon Walker and Josh Allen and inside linebacker Devin Lloyd to play well against Hurts. I believe they can keep Hurts’ mobility from wrecking the game. But in a close game, I do wonder if Hurts can find a way to make one or two plays that could be the difference. That’s how I could see his mobility being an issue Sunday. Kinney from Westside I know you said be nice and I don’t mean it in a disrespectful kind of way but I am so happy we hired Urban Meyer last year. His lack of talent as an NFL head coach is the reason we were able to land not only our draft picks but the coach of the year. No way we get him last year if we didn’t get Urban. Doubt another coach would have wet the bed the way he did and get fired after less than one year. Your first sentence aside, this was kind of disrespectful. And it certainly was not “nice.” Sean G from Saint Johns City If you look at teams playing back-to-back road games over time, I’d expect that record would be fairly low. This one sets up really good for the Eagles. Back-to-back road games are difficult and – as with most things in the NFL – how difficult depends on the quality of your team. Good teams typically fare OK in back-to-back road games and struggling teams, well … struggle. This game sets up well for the Eagles because they’re playing well and they’re at home. The Jaguars have a decent chance for the same reason they beat the Los Angeles Chargers on the road last week – because they’re confident, healthy and playing well. Charles from Port St Lucie, FL These are the things about the national sports media that really irritate Jags fans. Adam Caplan on drive time this week said our punt game and return teams have been inconsistent. That’s a really dumb take that anyone familiar with the Jags wouldn’t make. I was on Drive Time with Caplan this week, and I admit I missed this “take.” I also admit that when assessing heinous crimes against humanity, I would rank this comparatively low. But what irritates you irritates you, I suppose. Charles from Port St Lucie, FL So … we were at six-to-sevens wins before the season. A win this week … where are you at? I’m probably around eight-to-ten now, up from six-to-seven before the season. If the Jaguars beat the Eagles Sunday, I probably would go up to ten-to-11. I would do so reluctantly, because I am at heart an aging pessimist who like to see things before I believe them, but go I probably would. Bradley from Sparks, NV Considering his age and ceiling, there are only three NFL quarterbacks I would trade Trevor Lawrence for without thinking about it (Lamar Jackson of Baltimore, Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City, Josh Allen of Buffalo and only two more I would strongly consider (Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, Joe Burrow of Cincinnati). Thoughts?? I like Mahomes and Allen much better than Jackson, because I still wonder if Jackson will be as effective if injuries/wear and tear hurt his ability to run. While Mahomes and Allen are mobile, they seem to rely less on the threat of the run to dictate defenses. I would put Herbert and Burrow in the same conversation as the above three players. I might take any of the five over Lawrence because all five have proven themselves over a sustained period whereas Lawrence has begun to show consistency over his last three or four games. But if Lawrence is what we have seen the past two games … Richard from Jacksonville Do you think we will see a trick or “gadget” play if the situation arises? Yes. John from Jacksonville Hi KOAGF – Enjoying the success this season so far but sticking with your concept of waiting until about Game 6 to see more of a better sample set. When do you think we’ll see the return of the long ball (both attempts and an actual completion)? The Jaguars will throw long passes – and complete them – in due time. Lawrence, remember, connected on a 49-yard pass to wide receiver Christian Kirk against Washington in Week 1 – a play-action pass set up by two strong runs by running back James Robinson. Deep shots weren’t really part of the Week 2 game plan against an Indianapolis Colts defense designed to consistently allow underneath throws. The offense was working again with throws to the sideline and intermediate routes in a Week 3. We’re three weeks in. Game plans and opponents often dictate this. There’s no reason to believe it won’t happen. Chris from Mandarin If we beat Philly on the road, I’m going to poop my pants John. Please send help. I didn’t see the part about “if we beat Philly on the road” when first reading this email. I thought it would be less disturbing with that part. It was not. Chris from San Diego, CA For the record, the Jags have won exactly one more game than at the same time in 2020 when the team went 1-15. How about we slow down the playoff/Super Bowl talk? Chris is not “all in.”

Russia Supplying Kazakhstan With Electricity For Cryptocurrency Miners – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/russia-supplying-kazakhstan-with-electricity-for-cryptocurrency-miners-cryptonews/ Russia Supplying Kazakhstan with Electricity for Cryptocurrency Miners Russia is looking to bolster Kazakhstan’s energy demands in an amendment of the partnership between the two nations, as a means to provide electricity to miners within the former Soviet republic member state. The move comes amidst growing demand for electricity by crypto miners in Kazakhstan, as mining activities see an uptick. The development was uncovered by Russian media platform RBC in a recent report. Per the report, the Russian government has demanded a modification of the binational energy agreements between the two bordered countries. This development follows the Russian government’s order on the matter.  The amendment seeks to ensure the parallel operations of both countries’ energy systems. As a product of the recently-engineered modification, Russia will be supplying sufficient energy to Kazakhstan especially for its cryptocurrency mining operations.  Russia seeks to facilitate this move through one of its largest energy-holding companies, Inter RAO. Inter RAO’s relevance in this move is due to the fact that it serves as Russia’s sole energy import-export contractor. Russia’s Inter RAO has entered into a commercial contract agreement with the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC). The contract will ensure the supply of energy to Kazakhstan through on a purchase-and-sale basis between both companies and beyond. Following China’s crackdown on cryptocurrency mining operations within its territory, the East Asian country has seen an exodus of mining entities. In an effort to find a more conducive atmosphere, several mining entities trooped to Kazakhstan.  Notwithstanding, Kazakhstan is not without its issues. The Central Asian country has had its fair share of energy deterioration issues. Kazakhstan’s growing energy predicament is indicative of the significance of the Russian partnership. Following an energy crisis in Kazakhstan in January, the state energy company cut off several cryptocurrency mining companies – about 200 – from the country’s power supply. Although this disconnection was temporary, it highlighted the delicate situation with the country’s energy sector. The Crypto Mining Industry in Kazakhstan Despite this inauspicious indication, most crypto mining firms have remained in Kazakhstan, partly due to the country’s recent lax attitude towards these entities. As Kazakhstan looks to address its energy situation, the country might, however, adjust its approach at regulating mining firms. Last week, Kazakhstan presented its first draft law on cryptocurrency mining to check the industry within the country. The deputies of the lower house of Kazakhstan’s parliament, the Mäjilis, presented a bill in this regard. Within the bill, the house acknowledged the significance of crypto mining to the broader economy of Kazakhstan. Nonetheless, there was a consensus that despite its importance, the industry is largely unregulated in Kazakhstan.  While the country has a legislation that requests the registration of crypto mining firms, this registration exercise is voluntary. As a result, several firms have taken to bypassing the exercise. This lack of proper oversight has led to an indiscriminate use of Kazakhstan’s energy for crypto mining, contributing to the country’s energy situation. Consequently, the house seeks to propose stricter measures and a proper surveillance of the industry.

Borderlands: US Challenging Mexico’s Import Ban Corn – FreightWaves https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/borderlands-us-challenging-mexicos-import-ban-corn-freightwaves/ Borderlands is a weekly rundown of developments in the world of United States-Mexico cross-border trucking and trade. This week: US challenging Mexico’s import ban on corn; Sprint Transport set to build new headquarters in Texas; FleetPride acquires Sam & Sons Truck Equipment; and Laredo border officers seize narcotics worth $11.5M.  US challenging Mexico’s import ban on corn Farmers and policymakers in the United States are urging the Mexican government to reconsider an impending ban on imports of genetically modified corn by 2024. Mexico’s plan to prohibit the importation of the crop began in 2020, when Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador decreed he would eliminate the use of the herbicide glyphosate and genetically modified corn in the country. “If Mexico’s decrees on corn are fully implemented, or even partially implemented by the Dec. 31, 2024 deadline, then that’s really bad for a lot of U.S. exports, and it’s bad for the Mexican population,” Angus R. Kelly, director of public policy, trade and biotechnology at the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), told FreightWaves. “There’s no doubt prices will increase on livestock feed and tortillas in the country, because a lot of the corn we send them is used in feedstock and corn is also used to make tortillas.” For years, Mexican environmental and consumer groups have been fighting against the import of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), fearing the unintended side effects from changes in the genomes of grains used to make bread, pasta and other foods, according to La Jornada and other Mexican media. Mexican supporters of the ban also contend that seeds from genetically modified corn could contaminate Mexico’s age-old native varieties of white corn, which many in the country consider a part of Mexican history and heritage. Some historians believe the people who lived in central Mexico were the first to develop white corn as far back as 9,000 years ago. Mexico has been one of the main buyers of corn produced in the U.S. for decades. Mexico imported $4.7 billion worth of corn in 2021, behind China, which imported $5.06 billion.  More than 90% of corn grown in the U.S. is genetically modified, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). GMOs were introduced in the 1990s to resist insect pests and tolerate herbicides. Many GMOs are modified to be more pest-resistant, in order to reduce pesticide use. Other common goals are weather or moisture level tolerance to allow farming in less hospitable areas. The majority of U.S. corn is produced in states such as Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois, and is shipped by rail, truck and barge, according to the USDA. The bulk of U.S. corn exports to Mexico are shipped either from the Port of New Orleans via container ship, or by truck from the port of entry in Laredo, Texas. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Tuesday that he is continuing to speak with officials in Mexico about the plan to ban genetically modified corn, hoping to find a resolution before 2024, according to Reuters.  NCGA, which is based in Washington and represents the interests of farmers across the country, wants U.S. officials to launch a dispute settlement proceeding under the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade pact if a resolution can’t be reached soon. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) is the only organization that can request a dispute settlement panel under the USMCA to challenge Mexico’s upcoming ban on corn imports. “We are asking very clearly for them to bring a dispute settlement and we’re convinced they would win,” Kelly said. “The USTR and USDA say they’re trying to find a resolution, short of filing a USMCA dispute settlement. But we’ve been chasing our tails and the situation doesn’t seem to be improving.” Sprint Transport set to build new headquarters in Texas Bulk liquid hauler Sprint Transport recently announced it will build a new headquarters in La Porte, Texas, according to Bulk Transporter. The 22-acre facility will include 19,000 square feet of office space and 30,000 square feet for an eight-bay maintenance shop, ISO tank container depot and tank-cleaning facility. La Porte is about 22 miles east of Houston. Sprint Transport, founded in 2010, provides bulk liquid shipping services along the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast. The company employs 131 drivers and has 156 trucks, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.  Sprint’s current headquarters/terminal is in Pasadena, Texas. The carrier also has terminals in Freeport and Nederland, Texas.   FleetPride acquires Sam & Sons Truck Equipment FleetPride Inc., one of the nation’s largest distributors of aftermarket truck and trailer parts, has acquired the assets of Houston-based Sam & Sons Truck Equipment. Sam & Sons is a family-owned business founded in 1968. The acquisition includes a 26,000-square-foot facility that provides specialized services in liftgate repair, along with an onsite 100-foot paint booth capable of servicing a 54-foot tractor-trailer. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. FleetPride, which is based in Irving, Texas, has more than 300 locations across the U.S., including 75 service centers and five distribution centers.  Laredo border officers seize narcotics worth $11.5M U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the port of entry in Laredo, Texas, recently intercepted two shipments of illegal drugs on the same day at the World Trade Bridge, according to a news release. On Sept. 20, CBP officers were inspecting a tractor-trailer arriving from Mexico carrying a shipment of brooms. Officers discovered 32 packages containing about 81 pounds of alleged cocaine in the trailer. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $1.1 million. Later the same day, CBP officers searched a truck carrying a shipment of Sheetrock from Mexico. Officers found 71 packages containing about 31 pounds of alleged heroin and 2,551 packages containing roughly 1,050 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $10.4 million. CBP officers turned the case over to Homeland Security Investigations. When most people think of Goa, they picture a beach getaway with views of glistening dunes and blue oceans with a glimmering sun in the background. In India’s coastal capital, where the Sun and sand meet, the environment is verdant all the way to the horizon, where it views the sparkling waters below. Goa is the smallest Indian state but also one of the most popular vacation spots. North Goa is where visitors should go if they want a ‘happening’ vacation, while South Goa is where they should go for a restful break from their busy lives. Goa provides everything you could possibly need for a wonderful vacation, whether you’re travelling with your family, a group of friends, or your special someone. Things to do in Goa Visit the beaches Beaches are a popular tourist attraction in Goa, and the state has more than 25 of the most beautiful shores imaginable, from wild party hotspots to quiet, secluded spots. The beaches of Goa are an integral part of every vacation, but those in northern Goa, such as Baga, Anjuna, Calangute, and Arambol, are especially lively because of the abundance of beach shacks selling delicious Konkan food and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Colva, Palolem, and Galgibaga are three of the quietest beaches in south Goa, and they are well worth the trip if you’re in need of some peace and tranquillity. Water sports are a must Try your hand at scuba diving, sailing a catamaran, jet skiing, parasailing, or windsurfing to get your blood pumping and unleash your inner explorer. Goa, and particularly North Goa, is home to several water sports companies; you can find them by the horde of boats and water bikes that are often parked in a single area of the beach. Try some casinos: If that’s your thing Goa’s many casinos provide some of the best betting opportunities in the world, so a trip to the territory should definitely be on your itinerary. Slot machines, roulette wheels, poker tables, flush baccarat, and other table games, as well as live shows and, in certain cases, free beverages and food, may all be found at the casinos. Even if gambling isn’t your thing, a cruise is a fantastic opportunity to unwind on the open seas. Casinos in Goa include the Caravela, the Casino Carnival, and the Casino Royale. When to visit Travelling to Goa between the months of mid-November and mid-February will allow you to enjoy the beaches and other outdoor activities without having to worry about the stifling heat of the summer. In addition to massive Christmas and New Year’s festivities, Goa welcomes tens of thousands of tourists every December for one of its most well-known festivals, Sunburn. It’s peak season, so you should probably book your flights and lodgings in advance since the costs will likely be significantly higher. To sum up Part of Goa’s appeal comes from the sleepless parties that go on until dawn every day, and part from the relaxed, old-world atmosphere that the Portuguese brought with them in the late 17th Century. You’ll find just as much, if not more, excitement in the churches, bungalows, and cafés as you would in enjoying a cool drink by the water. The allure of Old Goa is undeniable, and it continues to draw visitors. Goa’s abundance of stunning beaches along the Arabian Sea is reason enough to visit. (Edited by : Sudarsanan Mani) %

Tips On How To Avoid A Scam And Eating Well With Diabetes – Coshocton Tribune https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/tips-on-how-to-avoid-a-scam-and-eating-well-with-diabetes-coshocton-tribune/ Emily Marrison  |  Columnist Last week was a bustle of activity as our family prepared for the Coshocton County Fair. One of my preparations was putting together the Ohio State University Extension Family and Consumer Sciences fair booth. I enjoy featuring people from programs from throughout the year and offering some helpful tips about healthy living. Just in case you don’t make it to the youth building, I will share some of the educational information featured this year. The two main topics are how to avoid a scam and eating well with diabetes. I recently attended a conference and learned all about scams from a representative of the Federal Trade Commission. They have reliable and insightful resources at consumer.ftc.gov which spread the word about recognizing, avoiding and reporting scams. Here are four signs of a scam: 1. Pretend: Scammers pretend to be from an organization or business you know, like the Social Security administration, the IRS or a utility company. Please know they can use technology to change the phone number that appears on your caller ID so it might not be real. 2. Problem or prize: Scammers might say you owe money or are in trouble with the government. Some scammers say there is a problem with one of your accounts and you need to verify some information. Others will lie and say you won money in a contest but must pay a fee to get it. 3. Pressure: A key strategy for scammers is to create urgency to make you act before you have time to think. They might threaten to arrest you, sue you or take away your driver’s license. They might say your computer is about to be corrupted. If you are on the phone, they might warn you not to hang up so you cannot check out their story. 4. Pay: Scammers tell you to pay in a specific way, often by sending money through a money transfer company or by putting money on a gift card. Some will send you a fake check, tell you to deposit it, and then send them money. Bottom line, resist the pressure to act immediately and do not give personal or financial information in response to a request you are not expecting. Stop and talk to someone you trust before you do anything else. Another theme in this year’s fair booth is managing diabetes well during the holidays. Here are some tips about holiday meals from the American Association of Diabetes Educators: Eat breakfast or snacks earlier in the day and do not skip meals. Limit the number of servings of starchy foods like mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and rolls. Either choose one or take just take a few bites of each. Enjoy your favorite holiday treats, but take small portions, eat slowly and savor the taste and texture. When eating out, ask for a take-out container at the beginning of the meal and immediately put half away for later or split the meal with someone else. After your meal, take a walk with family and friends. Exercise is a great way to lower blood sugar levels. OSU Extension Coshocton County will be offering a special Take Charge of Your Diabetes During the Holidays program on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Frontier Power Community Room, 770 S. Second Street. Registration for the free program is Oct. 28 and the program is limited to 30 participants. Register online at go.osu.edu/takecharge2022  or call 740-622-2265. People Still Don’t Know What Metaverse Is All About: Tim Cook – Economic Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/people-still-dont-know-what-metaverse-is-all-about-tim-cook-economic-times/ Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that while many tech companies are bullish on metaverse, he is not sure if the average person can tell you what the metaverse actually is. In a conversation with Dutch news outlet Bright, Cook who is on a Europe tour said virtual reality has specific uses but the technology shouldn’t make up a person’s entire life. “I always think it’s important that people understand what something is. And I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is,” Cook was quoted as saying. “It’s something you can really immerse yourself in. And that can be used in a good way. But I don’t think you want to live your whole life that way,” he emphasised. Apple is yet to be caught up with metaverse, a technology that is being popularised by the likes of Meta (formerly Facebook) and the rest. The tech giant is reportedly working on a mixed reality (MR) headset which it can launch soon. Discover the stories of your interest On augmented reality (AR), Cook said it is a profound technology that will affect everything. “Imagine suddenly being able to teach with AR and demonstrate things that way. Or medically, and so on. Like I said, we are really going to look back and think about how we once lived without AR,” Cook noted. “VR is for set periods, but not a way to communicate well. So I’m not against it, but that’s how I look at it,” Cook added. Cook also spoke about the importance of programming. “I see programming as the only universal language. It’s the most important language you can learn,” Cook said. “Of course your native language is more important for communication, but a programming language is a way to tap into your creativity. It really puts your critical thinking skills to work, and you can use that in many aspects of your life,” he added. Apple is helping developers integrate AR into their apps with technologies such as ARKit. Stay on top of technology and startup news that matters. Business Want Stable Economics Says Currys Chief After Pound Collapse And Bond Market Rout The Telegraph
Business Want Stable Economics Says Currys Chief After Pound Collapse And Bond Market Rout The Telegraph
‘Business Want Stable Economics’ Says Currys Chief After Pound Collapse And Bond Market Rout – The Telegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/business-want-stable-economics-says-currys-chief-after-pound-collapse-and-bond-market-rout-the-telegraph/ Running an electricals retailer is a tough job at the best of times but selling television sets, mobile phones and gadgets is only getting tougher as the cost-of-living crisis prompts cash-strapped households to cut back.  Last week’s market crisis heaped yet more misery on chief executives like Alex Baldock, who has been leading a turnaround attempt at Currys since 2018. “Every business wants stable policy, stable economics, not least price and currency stability, and those things breed confidence,” he says. “We could do with some of that stability right now.” Large technology suppliers were swiftly seeking to charge more for their goods after sterling hit an all time low against the dollar last week, threatening to derail Currys’ promise that it won’t be beaten on price.  “With all the heft we carry, we can resist that better than other retailers, but not entirely, and some price rises are inevitable,” he says. Putting up prices is the last thing the 51-year-old wants to be doing as he seeks to battle a years-long decline in Currys’ share price.  “The consumer needs help through this cost-of-living crisis,” he says. “I do welcome the Government’s [energy] support, not just for consumers, but for businesses as well, that’s been essential and decisive. But equally, every business craves a stable environment.” Businesses were already reeling from surging costs such as energy and labour as well as supply chain disruption. Smaller rival AO World was recently forced to raise £40m to shore up its finances, while global players such as Eletrolux have warned of a steep drop in demand for its home appliances.  Despite returning the chain to reasonable financial health since he took over in 2018, Currys, formerly known as Dixons Carphone, was forced to cut its annual profit forecasts in July. The stock is down over 70pc since he took over and close to hitting just a tenth of its all-time peak, reached in 2015. “Ultimately, that’s how this turnaround and I, personally, will be judged,” he says, nearly four years into his revival plan. “I find the investors super supportive, they understand what we’re doing, they understand that we’re taking what was a good bricks-and-mortar retailer and repurposing it for the modern world by adding online [sales] and adding services.”  Baldock has earned a reputation for his cool-headed – some would say mechanical – approach to running one of the country’s leading electronics retailers.  During a tour of Currys’ repairs depot in Northamptonshire, an employee pulls him aside. “Colleagues are taking the mick because I did an internal video after our meeting with investors and my [shirt] collar was sticking out,” the chief executive explains. The uncharacteristic wardrobe malfunction was a rare occasion when he did not appear entirely composed in front of his 32,000-strong workforce – they were amused.  “When you meet him, he’ll come across as reserved,” says Lord Simon Wolfson, the boss of Next. “My view is, it doesn’t matter if you’re an introvert or extrovert, what does matter is the quality of your thinking and the effectiveness of your implementation, and he’s very good at that.” Lord Ian Livingston, Currys’ former chairman who hired Baldock, saids: “He’s incredibly hard working, diligent and he’s a very good listener. He doesn’t get ruffled easily. Intellectually, [he is] very, very strong, which means he can process multiple things at once.” That skill has been incredibly useful in recent years as Currys was forced to confront not only the transition to online but also Covid-related supply chain disruption.  At the beginning of the pandemic, Baldock closed all 531 Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK, to simplify the business, leading to 2,900 job losses. He later severed ties with some of the big phone networks to gain more flexibility on price. Click-and-collect services were added and live video shopping was introduced for customers stuck at home.  Currys is now focusing on credit deals and low prices in an attempt to drive sales and ensure customers don’t defect to rivals. It is also increasingly promoting repairs, rather than just the latest whizzy gadget. “We want to help shoppers get started with a laptop, get the most of it, as well as sell them shiny new kit,” he says.  “The way we do that is through repairs. We have Europe’s largest electrical repair facility with 1,000 colleagues that has 3 million products passing through it every year.  “That’s obviously great for the planet, but it’s also good for customers’ pockets because in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, repairing stuff is on people’s minds.” Baldock insists repairs are profitable and a strategy worth pursuing. Pre-tax profits were up significantly in the 12 months to April, but Currys recently lowered its margin target from 4pc to 3pc through to 2023-24.   Some industry observers believe the retailer, which already commands a quarter of the market in the UK, will struggle to grow as it jostles for trade with the likes of Amazon and John Lewis. It accounted for 25.6pc of sales in the UK electricals market in 2021-22, down slightly from 25.8pc in 2018-19.  “There are real benefits of scale,” he says. “We matter more to customers, we matter more to our suppliers, and we have no intention of letting go of those. What we’ve said is, we will grow steadily.”  Baldock is quick to admit he has had a “comfortable and privileged” upbringing. He was born in Dorking, Surrey, but grew up in Paris. “French used to be my first language,” he says, with no detectable accent.     His father came from a working class family and joined the army before becoming a salesman for consumer giant Procter & Gamble. He climbed the ranks to eventually run Guinness and briefly chair Marks & Spencer.  Baldock’s mother, “a super bright woman”, was his father’s personal assistant.  “Back then it certainly wasn’t encouraged to go into higher education,” he says.   Aged 13, the young Baldock was “packed off to an English boarding school” – Oundle, near Peterborough – where “he loved his sport”, especially rugby.  He went on to read modern history at Worcester College, Oxford. When he graduated, he didn’t have “a particular calling beyond a vague sense that I wanted a business career” and secured a job as a management consultant at Kalchas. He spent 12 years advising business, living in Japan, Singapore, the US and Switzerland.  “Partly by luck, partly by judgement, I ended up doing operational consulting and it was a great education,” he says. “You get to see a lot of business movies early on in your life, which you can draw on later.” He then became a commercial director at Barclays and, three years later, the managing director of Lombard, a division of Royal Bank of Scotland.  “I’m sometimes described as a former banker, I don’t really see myself that way. It was a financial services firm that was rash enough to give me my first P&L [income statement],” he says.  Lord Wolfson dismisses Baldock’s modesty, saying: “He’s got the combination of: he’s very intelligent and he can get things done. Those qualities don’t always go hand in hand but they do in Alex.” After Lord Livingston hired him, a rival retailer got in touch at the time to say: “You’ve recruited the smartest guy in retail.” Baldock says: “This is a transformation that might take a little bit longer than I would have envisaged, there have been a couple of curveballs along the way. But I’m sitting here with enthusiasm, with passion and belief that we’re going to do it.”

The action is part of its investigation of the mobile gaming app E-nuggets. In its latest announcement, the ED revealed that nearly 86 bitcoins found at crypto exchange Binance were frozen. Indian Authority Freezes More Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Tether, Wazirx Token India’s Directorate of Enforcement (ED) announced Friday that it has frozen two more cryptocurrencies under the country’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is the Indian government’s law enforcement and economic intelligence agency. The announcement details: Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has freezed the crypto currencies WRX (utility token of Wazirx) and USDT (tether, an Ethereum token that is pegged to the value of a U.S. dollar) equivalent to Rs 47.64 lakhs. The ED initiated a money laundering investigation of Aamir Khan and others relating to E-nuggets on the basis of an FIR dated Feb. 15, 2021. Aamir Khan, S/o Nesar Ahmed Khan launched E-Nuggets, “which was designed for the purpose of defrauding public,” the Indian authority said. “Further, after collecting handsome amount from the public, all of the sudden, the withdrawal from the said app, was stopped, on the pretext of one and other excuses.” The agency explained that its investigations have revealed that the accused transferred the amount earned through the E-nuggets gaming app using a cryptocurrency exchange, elaborating: Amount equivalent to Rs 47.64 lakh was found in the wallet of Wazirx (crypto exchange) belonging to Aamir khan and its associates and the same has been freezed under PMLA. In addition, the ED noted that during searches conducted earlier against Amir Khan, Rs 17.32 crore cash was found and seized from the residential premises. Indian Authority Freezes More Bitcoin at Binance The latest announcement by the ED states: 85.91870554 bitcoins equivalent to USD $1,674,255.7 (equivalent to Rs 13.56 Cr approx. as per market exchange rate) found in balance in Binance exchange was freezed. In an earlier announcement, the ED said it had frozen 77.62710139 bitcoins on Binance. That means the ED froze 8.29160415 more BTC. Binance was believed to have acquired Wazirx in 2019. However, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) recently said that the acquisition “was never completed,” emphasizing that “Binance has never — at any point — owned any shares of Zanmai Labs, the entity operating Wazirx.” The ED froze the bank assets of Wazirx worth more than $8 million in August. However, earlier this month, Wazirx said that its bank accounts have been unfrozen. Following Wazirx, the ED froze crypto and bank assets worth $46 million of Vauld, a crypto platform backed by Peter Thiel. In August, the agency searched crypto exchange Coinswitch Kuber. However, the exchange’s CEO said that it was not related to money laundering investigations. Israeli Leader Welcomes US Plan For Sea Border With Lebanon ABC News
Israeli Leader Welcomes US Plan For Sea Border With Lebanon – ABC News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/israeli-leader-welcomes-us-plan-for-sea-border-with-lebanon-abc-news/ JERUSALEM — Israel’s prime minister on Sunday welcomed a U.S. proposal for setting the maritime border with Lebanon, saying the American plan for resolving a long-running dispute between the neighboring countries would lift Israel’s economy and boost regional security. Prime Minister Yair Lapid said the proposal was delivered over the weekend to both Israel and Lebanon. While he said it was still being studied, he said the plan would strengthen Israel’s northern areas near the Lebanese border, allow Israel to produce additional natural gas and deliver new revenues to the national coffers. “This is a deal that strengthens Israel’s security and Israel’s economy,” Lapid told his Cabinet. He also said Israel would not oppose the development of “an additional Lebanese gas field” straddling the maritime border, as long as Israel receives “the share we deserve.” He said this would weaken Lebanon’s dependence on Iran, restrain the Hezbollah militant group and promote regional stability. He said the deal was being reviewed by legal and defense officials before it is to be voted upon by the government. Israeli media said a vote could take place Thursday. On Saturday, the proposal was also delivered to Lebanese leaders. Lebanon and Israel have been officially at war since Israel’s creation in 1948 and both countries claim some 860 square kilometers (330 square miles) of the Mediterranean Sea. Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser for energy security at the U.S. State Department who has been mediating between the two neighbors, last visited Beirut in September, where he expressed optimism after meeting with Lebanon’s leaders. Lebanon’s parliament speaker, Nabi Berri, said in an interview with the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper Saturday the proposal “in principle meets the Lebanese demands.” Lebanon hopes to unleash offshore oil and gas production as it grapples with the worst economic crisis in its modern history, plunging three-quarters of its population into poverty. A Lebanese official who attended the talks last month told The Associated Press that the proposal put forward by the U.S. envoy gives Lebanon the right to the Qana field, located partially in Israel’s domain. A part of it stretches deep into a disputed area. The official added that the main point now is how to draw the demarcation line in a way that stretches south of Qana. Lapid’s comments appeared to be a reference to the emerging agreement over Qana. Israel set up a gas rig at its designated location at the Karish field. Israel says the field is part of its U.N.-recognized exclusive economic zone, while Lebanon insists Karish is in a disputed area. In July, the Israeli military shot down three unarmed drones belonging to Lebanon’s Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah flying over the Karish field. Hezbollah’s leader has issued warnings to Israel over the maritime dispute, saying that “any arm” that reaches out to steal Lebanon’s wealth “will be cut off.” The heavily armed group, which has fought several wars with Israel, has repeatedly said in the past that it would use its weapons to protect Lebanon’s economic rights. Hezbollah officials have however said they would endorse a deal reached between Lebanon’s government and Israel. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a speech Saturday echoed similar sentiments to Lebanon’s top political leaders about Hochstein’s proposal, and reasserted that the Iran-backed party will back the Lebanese political leadership’s position. “God willing, if it reaches the desired and best result, it would be the result of national unity, cooperation, and solidarity,” he said.

Mass Resignations Hit Chinhoyi University Of Technology – Bulawayo24 News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/mass-resignations-hit-chinhoyi-university-of-technology-bulawayo24-news/ THERE is high attrition of academic staff at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) due to poor salaries and other conditions of service. The resignations of senior staffers, including professors, leaving for other better rewarding higher and tertiary institutions, locally and abroad, is threatening excellent education delivery at the institution. Speaking during CUT’s graduation ceremony in Chinhoyi Friday, Vice Chancellor, David Jambgwa Simbi said the brain drain had negatively impacted on the institution’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of being the citadel of technological innovations. “The issue of brain drain that nearly destroyed higher education between 2006 and 2009 is resurfacing. Since January 2022, nineteen (19) academics have resigned from CUT, of which 14 were PhDs and professors,” said Simbi. “This is a disturbing statistic as it flies in the face of efforts by the executive in championing innovation and industrialisation pillars. “Most academics are, however, leaving to introduce the same concepts at universities that they are going to.” Simbi hinted that those who left CUT would regret as better days were coming. “I, however, have a message for those who are leaving that the sun is rising,” he said. The vice chancellor lamented that the university had recorded a low uptake of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programmes at postgraduate level due to a shortage of tutors and resources. Meanwhile, CUT Chancellor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa challenged graduates to demonstrate acquired education by making products and services and should desist from bragging about having useless paper qualifications. “Paper qualification can be futile if you cannot produce something tangible. We must celebrate producing something tangible. “We must have a high performance and results culture within the higher and tertiary education ecosystem,” Mnangagwa said. He made the remarks while addressing guests the institution’s farm where he commissioned Industrial Cattle Fattening Pens and Medicinal Feed Factory, which are part of several initiatives and innovations by the institution. “We must no longer celebrate because you now have a paper qualification, but that you have been moulded in a practical way that enables you to produce goods and services.” Mnangagwa emphasised that the education system should adequately empower a graduate to self-sustain and contribute to national development to dovetail with the national thrust of modernisation and industrialisation to ensure attainment of an upper middle income society by 2030.

Flying under the radar are video games even though kids in the United States spend much more time playing video games than engaging in social media, according to a recent Common Sense Media report. Last year, China acted: It prohibited minors from playing video games on school days and more than an hour on weekend and holiday nights. Teenagers then flocked to livestreaming platforms to watch others play their favorite games, so a new crackdown bars children from watching livestreams after 10 p.m. The goal is to reduce addiction to gaming or, as the Chinese government calls it, “spiritual opium,” because of concerns about how it harms mental health and academic study. Such bans may sound outrageous even for an authoritarian country like China. But as a gaming entrepreneur in the United States for 13 years and a father of two young daughters, I don’t think parents are doing enough to protect kids from the potential harms of video games. In 2009, I co-founded Storm8, a video game developer. I have launched more than 50 mobile games. These have been downloaded more than a billion times and have generated more than $1 billion in sales. I am very familiar with game addiction, as that’s what I thought about every day for more than a decade. (We sold the company in 2020.) I hired product managers and engineers to track everything players did and analyze their behavior. Using the data we collected, we experimented with every feature of our games to see which versions allowed us to extract the most time and money from our players. For us, game addiction was by design: It meant success for our business. Here’s an example of how addiction is cultivated in gaming. If you have played mobile games like Candy Crush Saga, you are familiar with the concept of “lives.” You are given five lives a day; each time you lose a game, you lose a life. Run out of lives, and you can’t play again until your supply is replenished. ’ Why, you might ask, would someone get addicted if the developers prevent players from gaming as much as they like? I have used the same mechanic in my own games, and this is how I explained it to my engineering team. Say I have a delicious chocolate cake. If I give you the entire cake, you might eat the whole thing in one go because it’s the best cake you ever had. But you likely will “overdose” and may not want to touch chocolate cake again. What if, instead, I give you a tiny slice each day? Gradually, you develop a daily habit, and you might end up buying 10 cakes from me. That’s the ultimate goal: to build habit-forming games that have players coming back every day. In other words, it takes away the decision-making. We wanted people to reach for their phones first thing in the morning and jump right into our games, just as they check their social media and emails. For a long time, I didn’t see a problem. I saw our mission as bringing joy and entertainment to players. This changed when my two toddlers became old enough to take an interest in playing the very games I had built. Thinking about my games in my daughters’ hands, I had to confront what these products really were and what they could do. Knowing all the techniques with which we tried to bring about addiction, I realized I didn’t want my children exposed to that risk. My daughters are now 3 and 4 years old and I have yet to show them any of the games I have designed. There is some debate among researchers and health care practitioners that gaming can become a true addiction, but according to the World Health Organization, “gaming disorder” can “result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.” The over-the-top experiences and rewards built into video games can stimulate our brains to release dopamine. Dopamine, the powerful “feel good” neurotransmitter, motivates us to seek more of these pleasurable activities. This is what can lead to addictive behavior. One recent study followed adolescent video-game players for six years. Most were able to enjoy playing without any harmful consequences. But a significant minority, 10 percent, developed pathological tendencies related to video games, including having difficulty stopping play. Compared with the other group in the study, these players displayed higher levels of depression, aggression, shyness, problematic phone use and anxiety by the time they were emerging into adulthood. I’m not proud that I had a hand in furthering these problems. As a matter of fact, I tell my daughters that I make board games like the ones they play at school. Whenever I encourage my daughters to strive to make a positive difference in the world, I question whether I have done the same. I am not suggesting that we regulate video games as China has. But here are three ways that we should think about addressing this issue: Start with parent training. Parents need to be made aware of the negative impact of the video games they may be letting their children play. I get that sometimes we need to occupy our kids, and it’s very tempting to hand them a phone. But we need to be better gatekeepers. It’s hard to change a behavior if you can’t first measure it. Use tools, such as Apple’s Screen Time or Google’s Digital Wellbeing, to create awareness of just how much time you or your children are spending on games — you’ll be surprised. Finally, strike a balance. Games can be fun, of course; we just need to find moderation. When I was growing up, my parents pushed me to eat more vegetables and fruits. With technology so integral to our lives, we need to treat digital wellness like physical wellness and make sure we encourage behavior that’s good for us. I have realized that I have a role to play, too, beyond keeping my daughters safe. Going forward, I’ve decided to use my knowledge about video game design for good, to try to design educational games that are more engaging. Recently I had a chance to participate in a math program for young children at Stanford’s Haas Center for Public Services. I worked with two kindergartners and saw how technology and games could help them learn. I asked them what they were interested in and created math games with themes that they liked. The children were excited to play the games, and in two months, they went from skipping numbers when counting to accurately counting from 1 to 100 and even doing simple addition. Even so, I believe there is a lot more waiting for kids beyond that screen.

State, U.S. Workforces Coming Up Short As Pandemic’s Effects Linger – Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/state-u-s-workforces-coming-up-short-as-pandemics-effects-linger-northwest-arkansas-democrat-gazette/ Easing into the post-pandemic environment has not been so easy on the jobs front — the labor force has withered in Arkansas and across the U.S. Jobs are plentiful across Arkansas and the nation, so that’s not the issue. Complications from covid appear to continue to hinder the rebuilding of a full labor pool to fill those jobs. During covid’s peak, workers were thrown off the job primarily out of health concerns. Businesses reopened, and a great majority are either encouraging or mandating that employees return to the office to keep their jobs. Many potential workers, however, remain on the sidelines. Businesses raised wages, offered incentive pay and bonuses — all in an effort to fill open jobs. Many workers still stayed away, creating huge gaps in the available labor pool. Though Arkansas’ labor force remains below pre-pandemic levels, participation has shown a gradual increase throughout this year. Nevertheless, state officials estimate upwards of 100,000 jobs remain unfilled. Now, a new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research reveals that the U.S. labor force, still recovering from the pandemic, remains down by 500,000 workers who became ill with a covid-related sicknesses that kept them out of work. That will likely persist if the virus continues to sideline workers at current rates. Moreover, the study finds that the per-year value of the lost labor supply is about $62 billion — roughly half of estimated losses caused by cancer or diabetes. Economists Gopi Shah Goda of Stanford University and Evan J. Soltas, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said in the study that “Covid-19 illnesses persistently reduce labor supply.” They noted “workers with weeklong covid-19 work absences are 7 percentage points less likely to be in the workforce one year later compared to otherwise similar workers who do not miss a week of work for health reasons.” That is a 0.2 percentage-point decrease in the labor-force participation rate, which reflects the number of adults holding or seeking jobs. Researchers pointed out that the estimate is conservative and the number could be a decrease of 750,000, or about a 0.3-point decline. The study tracked more than 300,000 workers over 14 months — ending in June this year. Turkish Tourists Prefer Balkan Countries For Vacation – Hurriyet Daily News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/turkish-tourists-prefer-balkan-countries-for-vacation-hurriyet-daily-news/ ISTANBUL – Demirören News Agency Balkan countries are the foremost choice of Turks for holidaying thanks to visa liberalization, geographical proximity, cultural partnership, affordability and low exchange rates. class=’cf’ “The Balkans are very attractive to Turkish tourists as they offer visa-free travel, are affordable, and are close to Türkiye,” said Muhammet Ali Köprü, the head of a tour operator company, Malitur. He noted that while tourism has been one of the most affected sectors by the pandemic, the demands have reached high levels with the normalization. Underlining that the Balkans is a popular destination in all seasons, Köprü said: “Turkish citizens prefer countries that do not require visas for an easier holiday. The Balkans is the optimum choice for historical and cultural travels, rather than the classic beach vacation.” Köprü also pointed out that it is very possible to come across many Ottoman artifacts in cities such as Sarajevo, Skopje, Ohrid and Pristina. “The Balkans is a ‘geography connected to our hearts.’ We have many similarities culturally and gastronomically, which is very suitable for the Turks’ taste.” “There are both air and road alternatives in the Balkan tours, which save time compared to long and tiring travels,” Köprü said, noting that there are direct flights from both international airports in Istanbul. class=’cf’ Amid the euro’s upward trend, the Turkish Lira maintains its strength against the currencies of the Balkan countries, Köprü informed. “Turkish Lira is still valuable against Serbia’s dinar, Romania’s Leu, Albania’s lek and North Macedonia’s dinar. Therefore, tour prices are also cheaper,” he explained. Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania stand out in travel preferences as they grant visa liberalization to Turkish citizens. Recently, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that citizens of Türkiye and Serbia are now able to visit the two countries with their identity cards, thanks to a deal made during his visit to Serbia. “Our excellent relations are improving day by day. The protocol signed on travel with identity will take our relations to a new level,” he stated. Some 300,000 tourists visited Türkiye from Serbia in 2022, and traveling with identity will increase this number, along with providing the businessmen to carry out their mutual travels much more easily, Erdoğan said. Additionally, Türkiye and Bosnia also decided to pave the way for their citizens to travel between the two countries with identity cards. class=’cf’ “In a new step, we have decided to make round trips between Bosnia and Herzegovina-Türkiye with identity cards,” Erdoğan stated. Türkiye keeps its connection strong with the Balkans as the country has deep-rooted historical, human, and cultural ties in the region and tries to avoid tensions, the president said. %
