The Importance of Lifestyle
Lifestyle is an individual's way of life. It is the sum of all the interests, values, attitudes, and activities that characterize a person. It is a defining feature of a person, and can be determined by their environment. Alfred Adler coined the term in 1929. Adler believed that people's lifestyles were the result of the early-life experiences that shaped their basic character. In his book The Science of Living, Adler defined lifestyle as a "way of living" that is influenced by their genetic endowment, upbringing, and interpersonal relationships within the family. The term lifestyle encompasses patterns of behavior, consumption, work, activity, and interest. It also includes shared expectations about behavior, civility, and dress. These factors and more can influence a person's lifestyle. For example, where a person lives, how often they work, and how they entertain themselves are all indicators of their lifestyle. These are just a few of the factors that influence a person's lifestyle. However, the importance of lifestyle cannot be overstated. Lifestyles can be classified according to what they are about. There are numerous categories, including health and wellness, veganism, VSCO, and minimalistism. Even within the city, location plays an important role in determining one's lifestyle. These factors can also include views on religion, politics, and health. The type of relationships one has with others can affect the type of lifestyle that one has. Ultimately, healthy living requires that all aspects of a person's life work in harmony.
