to black rock city and back
In the playa, looking west at the city. Hello world. I’m writing this on the heels of a week out in the desert at Burning Man: fully offline and thoroughly dusty. In the days since Savannah and I have returned to Boulder, we’ve been unpacking, cleaning, and de-muddifying all our stuff. Simultaneously I’ve been sorting through my thoughts and experiences, processing everything that I did and saw out there - and there’s a lot!

How to reduce smartphone screentime
How to reduce smartphone screentime
Yesterday evening I was laying by the fire and reading a book. It was my first evening off in a while; I had shut down my computer before heading for dinner, and I was thoroughly enjoying myself. At one point, after finishing the section I was reading, I remembered about

Internet is Fun
Internet is Fun
I made this: The internet used to be fun I feel like more people these days are starting to reject the notion that the internet is made up of Big Websites that represent Big Companies that are trying to take either the attention or the money of their visitors while adding minimal value to the lives and well-being of those visitors. Because a lot of us remember when the internet was mostly just fun, and the good parts of the old internet were by and large created by real individual humans who had no motives other than to explore the internet and just put stuff out there that was interesting and fun and random.

It Is Possible to Both Stream and Buy Music
It Is Possible to Both Stream and Buy Music
Denise Lu, New York Times Magazine (via Rusty Foster): I was still using iTunes until 2019, when Apple decided to sunset the app and replace it with a new media player called Music (not to be confused with Apple Music, the streaming service). The appeal of the app remains the same: a media player where […]

New macOS Sonoma features I’m excited about
New macOS Sonoma features I’m excited about
Dug through the PDF of all the new features coming in macOS Sonoma on the 26th. This is an exciting release for me because I’ve seen multiple people describe it as boring, and the thing with boring macOS releases is they (usually) spend more time polishing things up while adding little quality of life features. Widgets on the desktop and the return of screensavers (why?!) is the big headliner this year, but it’s not 2005 anymore so those don’t excite me.
