one-year covid anniversary reflections
Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the day I tested positive for covid for the first time. All things considered I thought I had done well to avoid it for three years though it obviously...

am i actually autistic?
am i actually autistic?
Recently I chanced upon a tweet stating that highly sensitive persons (HSPs) are basically autistic without admitting it. It surprised me, since the traits of HSPs as I know it seem to be...

a hole in my soul
a hole in my soul
I didn’t actually feel like writing today, but I’m worried if I don’t write I would forget the feelings and thoughts I have at this point in time. It doesn’t seem right to write about my friend who...

why i love hong kong
Hong Kong still seems like the same place in many ways, but it feels different. I don't know how much of it is due to the changes in me or the changes of the place itself. But I am still so fond of...

Hurt, Confrontation, Stop, Listen, Learn, Grow, and Forgive
Hurt, Confrontation, Stop, Listen, Learn, Grow, and Forgive
When I wrote about how it’s sometimes hard to be undecided or hold a complex view on the internet, I also noted: Shame is a powerful social and cultural tool to shape behavior. Norms are powerful. I think it’s great that most people can’t and won’t talk about members of the LGBTQ community the way we used to because you’ll be immediately shamed and dragged. I am perfectly happy at times to directly confront someone and ask if they’ve really thought about the consequences of what they’re saying or expressing.

I had a lot of self-hatred when I was younger. But over the past few years it gradually eased up as I embarked on a journey of self-understanding. This journey wasn't voluntary, it was forced upon...

Radicalized by a soap dispenser
Radicalized by a soap dispenser
I get frustrated when things don’t work. Increasingly I have been getting especially frustrated when things that are fancy don’t work, because I feel bamboozled. The other day, I went to wash my hands in the bathroom at work, and the automated soap dispenser/foamer didn’t work. I was awkwardly placing and retracting my hands under the sensor repeatedly like please sir… just a bit of soap to wash my bathroom hands… and nothing.

Reorientation
Reorientation
If I'd grown up online I might feel differently about the last five years, but without physical human interaction, the bite-sized epistolary nature of social media seems hollow. You're great, but you're better in person.
