Birdwatcher
Birdwatcher is a short visual novel created for O2A2 2024 with strict asset limitations. You find yourself in a dark Lovecraftian forest where birds haven't been seen for days, and your only companion is a strange speech-to-text device gifted to you by your long-deceased father.
American Born Chinese
American Born Chinese tells the story of three apparently unrelated characters: Jin Wang, who moves to a new neighborhood with his family only to discover that he's the only Chinese-American student at his new school; the powerful Monkey King, subject of one of the oldest and greatest Chinese fables; and Chin-Kee, a personification of the ultimate negative Chinese stereotype, who is ruining his cousin Danny's life with his yearly visits.
Night of the Living Dummy
When twins Lindy and Kris find a ventriloquist's dummy in a dumpster, Lindy decides to "rescue" it, and she names it Slappy. But Kris is green with envy. It's not fair. Why does Lindy get to have all the fun and all the attention? Kris decides to get a dummy of her own. She'll show Lindy. Then weird things begin to happen. Nasty things. Evil things. It can't be the dummy causing all the trouble, can it?
Spirit Phone
The album focuses on paranormal concepts and the occult. Additionally, it serves as a love letter to the 80s, both by way of emulating its aesthetics and by navigating the economic insecurities (“Reaganomics”, “I Earn My Life”) and technological advancements (“Cabinet Man”) of the decade.
Animals
Pol is a teenager with a seemingly calm life: he lives with his brother and is still in high school. However, Pol has a secret: Deerhoof, a cuddly teddy bear who thinks, moves around and with whom he shares his best moments. Life goes on as normal until the arrival of Ikari, an enigmatic student who seems to be hiding something. Pol is fascinated by his new classmate and attracted to the dark side he harbors.
Aikāne
Aikāne, created by Hawai'i-based filmmakers Dean Hamer & Joe Wilson and animated by Daniel Sousa, is a universal queer love story rooted in native Hawaiian Tradition. The short film follows two queer lovers — a warrior and his shape-shifting advisor — as they battle colonial evil.
