Details in description ⤵️ In this Adobe illustrator tutorial, I'll show you how to create a quick linocut effect using blends that you can duplicate across your design. Firstly, there's a difference between blending two shapes and blending two strokes. When you blend two shapes, you can freely edit the blend spine (the path which the blend follows) using the pen tool. When you blend two strokes, you don't get this option and instead have to use the replace spine, which gives a lot less control. To create your linocut effect, make a stroke where you want the effect to start, then duplicate the stroke and position at the end. Expand both strokes, object expand appearance, and create a blend, Object Blend Make. In the blend options, Object Blend Blend options, set the blend type to specified distance, and make it so your strokes overlap. Now, you can use the pen tool to edit the blend spine to fit the curve of your design. Because we set the blend to specified distance you can reposition the ends of the blend and it will keep the same look, meaning you can copy the blend to any other area of your design and edit saving the need to create multiple blends.
