Why do most Americans think all #Jews speak #Yiddish ? What are the differences between the #Ashkenazi and #Sepahardi? This lovely video from Unpacked explains it concisely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-TjGJ9bgKQ Unpacked has a lot of great videos on the topic of Jews and Judaism, suitable for both Jews and gentiles!

I'm a Jewish Convert. I'm Also an Atheist. - Hey Alma
When I first tell people I converted to Judaism, there is, initially, surprise (I use enough Yiddish to fool anyone into thinking I attended Hebrew school) and then something else, something like… worry? My social circles skew nonreligious, and any spiritually-inclined friends tend towards the occult; usually, the worry is that they have unwittingly said something […]

Who, What, Where, Why, and How are we Jews? My Twitter Followers Explain it all to non-Jews
I recently tweeted a question to my Jewish followers: “What is the most-difficult thing about the Jewish people to explain to non-Jews?” I was inundated with responses that were enlightening, fascinating, and reflect a wide range of priorities, obsessions, quirks, and arguments. In other words, it was all very Jewish. Below are some of the answers, divided by category.

I wrote the following for Souciant magazine – cross-posted with permission: Heavy Metal is often seen as a quintessentially white, Western, music. That is indeed the case much of the time. Metal emerged out of white, blue collar mutilations of the blues in working class heartlands such as the English West Midlands. Metal imagery is often festooned Read more ...
