All the New Cross-Platform Actions in Shortcuts for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS 🔐
With the release of iOS 15 and the associated betas across Apple’s platforms, the Shortcuts app has received 2 automation types and 22 new actions that work across iPhone, iPad, and macOS as well as 21 Mac-only actions. This piece (4,700 words, about 20 minutes average reading time) includes my write up of the cross-platform […]

Summary and summarisation of action points in a note
Summary and summarisation of action points in a note
On the macOS version… Is there a way of being able to summarise action points at the end of the note. I have to take detailed notes with client meetings of which action points will be recorded throughout. Would love to be able to then summarise these action points at the end of the note so can easily see as a list, or be able to then copy and paste that summary into an email to the client. Likewise would then be easy to review the note when loking back at things. Thanks

Charty 1.4
Charty 1.4
Charty puts together two things I love: visual representations and Shortcuts. Specifically, Charty allows you to create charts directly from Apple's Shortcuts app. And now they’re out with an update. With Charty 1.4 comes not only an updated UI and more customization options for widgets, but also

Alfred Workflow - Search Link
Alfred Workflow - Search Link
For anyone using a Mac for an extended period of time and looking for ways to do things better, the chances are that you will have come across the name Brett Terpstra. Brett is a creative guy who shares a lot of the things he makes that help make life on the Mac that bit easier. Something I am totally on board with, taking a similar approach myself across the platforms I deal with. A few days ago Brett updated one of his tools, and one that I use regularly. A tool called Search Link. I figured this might be a good time to publish a small Alfred workflow I have for working with Search Link.

Quick Capture with Drafts – The Sweet Setup
Quick Capture with Drafts – The Sweet Setup
Drafts is one of my most frequently used apps. It was designed for capturing text so you can do something with it. Over the years it's evolved, becoming more powerful and more flexible. This has lead me to use it more and more because it's incredibly easy to capture my data, and the processing options are endless.

Alfred Workflow - Keyboard Maestro
Alfred Workflow - Keyboard Maestro
If you speak to anyone who more than dabbles in automation on macOS, Keyboard Maestro is almost certainly going to be a utility that gets mentioned. I’m certainly no stranger to the application and have been using it for over a decade to manage a large proportion of my Mac automations. But when you invest like that, you do tend to build up a large set of macros and having memorable ways to access them with short codes, hot keys, gestures, palettes, etc. can become a little overwhelming. I’m personally much better at remembering parts of the names and so searching an index of the available m...

What's New in Shortcuts? Issue 27
This originally appeared in Issue 27 of “What’s New in Shortcuts?” Hello all – we’re currently experiencing a fairly major outage for iCloud links related to Shortcuts, and at the moment almost every shortcut that has been shared in the past cannot be installed. There are articles from places like iMore, MacStories, 9to5Mac, and MacRumors on it – […]

Bartender has long been a contender for Most Valuable Utility on my Mac. I've mentioned it a lot. It's up there with TextExpander and BetterTouchTool. And I can't believe it, but it somehow keeps

What Parents Need to Know About Discord
What Parents Need to Know About Discord
If you—or your teenager—are into gaming, you’ve likely at least heard of Discord, even if you haven’t used it yourself. It’s one more way for teenagers to connect with their friends and chat about gaming or other topics via private or public servers, individual messages, or group chats. But, as with any social network like this, there is also the potential for them to be exposed to mature themes, abusive language, cyber bullying, and other inappropriate content.
